26 SEP – CBC PREMIER – Sportsman hit the top, while Sam’s the man to see Everest climb – Norton Sportsman’s 3-1 victory at Wadsley Bridge Pheasant saw them go to the top of the CBC Premier table. Sportsman suffered an early blow when star player Josh Gibson took a knock on his back and was unable to continue. Pheasant almost went ahead when Joe Slater hit the bar, but it was Sportsman that took the lead when new signing Luke Francis managed to beat a number of opposition players before unleashing a great strike into the top corner. Sportsman looked in control, but on the stroke of half time Adam Asquith grabbed an equaliser for the hosts. After the break though it was Sportsman that took control again and a long ball sent Michael Gibbons away and he squared for Brad Bowland to restore their lead. A third soon followed when a Sonny Wilson corner beat everyone and finished in the net. After that only keeper Joel Statham stopped Sportsman from making the score much more emphatic with saves from Francis, Chris Winters and Bowland.
Up to second is Stannington Village after they made no mistake with a
3-0 home win over AFC Dronfield. Stannington took the lead when a Jon
Wall free kick found Jack Haslam to glance the ball into the far corner
and it was two shortly after when the ball was squared back for Addie
Gadour to side-foot home. The third was the pick of the goals when Jon
Wall whipped in a 25 yard free kick over the wall into the top corner.
Another away win came at Norton Oaks where four goal Max Rhodes inspired
Crookes to their first league win of the season 8-2. A Pete Smith double
saw Crookes take control and John Brelsford added a third before Rhodes
hit his first. The second half saw Rhodes add two more before Kyle
Grantham netted Oaks’ first. Liam Cartledge and Rhodes fourth completed
the scoring for Crookes before Elliott Hall netted Oaks’ second.
26 SEP – DIVISION 1 –
Sargent earns his stripes to send Inter top –
Division One also has new leaders after a Jordan Sargent strike set FC
Inter on their way to victory at Sheffield South. Despite having to play
their centre half Tom Brightmore in goal and 8 players missing, Inter
produced a quality performance. Sargent gave Inter the lead midway
through the first half and a John Sheldon goal midway through the second
sent Inter top.
Eckington are still second despite a 4-1 defeat at a Boynton Sports that
moved up to third. Eckington took the lead when Joe Renshaw spun well to
fire home, but it all went wrong for them after that and a goal from
Jake Gamban followed by two from Richie Atkins and one from Kurtis
Cockburn gave Boynton victory
Danny Barnsley netted twice to help Sheffield Sixers to an unusually
early victory at Wadsley Jack Athletic 3-2. Barnsley curled home a
brilliant free kick to give Siers the lead and they doubled it when Liam
Davies turned home a Harry Buxton cross. Joe Hall pulled one back for
Wadsley just before half time and the game might have turned their way
when Davies missed a penalty for Sixers soon after the break, but
Barnsley scored a terrific solo goal to put Sixers in charge again.
Wadsley hit back and after missing a number of chances, George Scott
netted their second, but Sixers held on.
New Bohemians home game with Southey Social didn’t take place after a
majority of the Southey squad got tangled up in the long traffic delays
caused by the Sheffield Half Marathon.
Just behind Brinsworth is Mosborough Reds after their 2-1 home win over
Renegade. It was a game of two halves, with a Jak Hotchin header from
Alix Sorsby’s free kick and an Oliver Tupling strike a minute later
giving Mosborough a deserved two goal lead at half time. It was
Renegade’s first action of the season and after the break, with the
cobwebs blown off, they laid siege to the Reds goals. They pulled one
back with a 25 yard screamer from Lewis Hanson and Reds keeper Luke Fogg
made an outstanding save in the last minute, but they couldn’t force the
equaliser they probably deserved.
Jubilee Rangers moved up to third with a 6-0 win at Shakey. From the
first minute Rangers were all over Shaky and although chances came and
went, after the first went in it was only a matter of how many Rangers
would score. Goals from Mason Hunt, Lewis Smith 2, Josh Reaney 2 and
Luke Oxley capped a faultless display, but special mention for the
outstanding Josh Reaney and Scott Bowley,
A first half Keir Storey goal and an outstanding display from their
keeper saw Beighton Magpies gain their first win of the season, 1-0 at
home to Chapeltown RBL It was also a first win for Sheaf House, 3-2 at
Red Lion. A long clearance by Sheaf keeper Lee Williams saw an
under-pressure defender head the ball over his keeper into the net to
give Sheaf the lead and if that was fortunate, there was nothing lucky
about their second with Nile Ions hitting an unstoppable volley from 25
yards. Lion pulled one back when a corner led to a scramble in the box
and Andy Taylor got the final touch. They were soon level when Josh
Jordan finished off a sweeping move, but Sheaf regained their lead just
before the break when Joe Bland’s corner found its way straight into the
net. The second half saw Lion push for an equaliser but the Sheaf
defence and keeper Williams held firm. |
|
Another to score two was Ben Stringer (pictured right) as Chapeltown RBL
comfortably beat Mexborough’s Roman FC 4-0. Chapeltown started brightly
only good work from the Roman keeper kept them out. The deadlock was
finally broken when Stringer found the bottom corner from just inside
the area. Stringer then doubled the lead as the winger beat his man
before slotting past the goalkeeper just before half time. Jack Marlow
made it three from close range soon after half time, and, after a Denham
Saxton cross, Morgan Cowell danced past his marker before lifting the
ball over the onrushing keeper for number four.
Boynton Sports also faced Mexborough opposition in Bolton
Ex-Servicemen’s and although Boynton Sports had five different scorers
in Jack Bell, Marc Peacock, Lee Jordan, Jake Gamban and Ricardo Stewart
they needed extra time to come through 5-4 after extra time in a real
thriller. The other winner on the day was Beighton Magpies, who beat
Rotherham’s Thorpe Hesley Village 4-1. A tight first half saw Beighton
go in front with a Liam Milne strike, but after the break a Lewis Hunt
shot doubled their lead. Will Simpson hit a third before Village pulled
one back, but a Jack Thorpe strike made certain for Beighton. They are
all joined in the second round by both Renegade and Southey Social after
both their opponents withdrew
An Alex Rippon (pictured left) goal set Royal Earl on their way to a 3-1
victory at Joker Wickersley Youth. Joker struck first when a long ball
was headed on by Josh Kirkland into the path of scorer Kallum Nix. Earl
soon equalised when man-of-the-match Connor Chapell pulled the ball back
for Rippon to score. Joe Pearson’s deflected shot put Earl ahead before
the break and Earl sealed the points in the second half when Rippon’s
header was saved by the keeper only for Steve Brammer to follow up to
score.
Crookes again showed their defensive frailties, but two Luke Hall
strikes helped them come from two down to earn a point with a 4-4 draw
against a Wadsley Bridge Pheasant that had a two goal striker of their
own in Carlton Carty. Hall gave Crookes the lead, but it was cancelled
out by Carty’s first. Danny Reet then put Pheasant ahead before Carty
doubled their lead at half time. Will Wraith quickly reduced the arrears
for Crookes after the break, but Joe Slater restored the visitors two
goal lead and had more chances to extend it further. They were then made
to pay for those misses as Hall netted his second before Tom Islip
netted an equaliser.
Norton Sportsman came from behind to earn a good point with a 1-1 draw
at Stannington Village. Brad Bowland almost put Sportsman ahead, but it
was Stannington that took the lead when Jon Wall crossed for Charlie
Hobson to head into the opposite corner. Sportsman soon levelled though
when Bowland combined with Jack Wymouth for Waymouth to score. The
second half saw Stannington have the better of the game and there was
one or two near misses, but Callum Frith also had a chance to win it for
the visitors.
19 SEP – DIVISION 1 –
Eckington held by Phoenix – Early Division One leaders Eckington
had to come from two down to rescue a point 2-2 at home to Brinsworth
Phoenix. Phoenix got off to a flying start and only a great save stopped
Jack Hawkes giving them the lead. They did go ahead when a moment of
brilliance saw skipper Brad Rhodes score with a Beckham-esc lob from 45
yards and Rhodes then turned provider for Hawkes to bend number two in.
The second half saw Eckington hit back with an Alister Haydock strike
before Owen Ryan hit an equaliser.
12 SEP – DIVISION 2 –
Whitehill go top and Jubilee leave Lion Red-faced –
Brinsworth Whitehill went top of Division Two with a 3-1 victory at
Sheaf House. Lewis Szanto, Matt Claxton and Jonny Claxton struck for
Whitehill, with Ali Ahmed netting for Sheaf House.
Jubilee Rangers gave Red Lion one of their biggest defeats for a few
seasons as goals from Jack Shaw, Josh Jackson, Mason Hunt, Adam Pocock,
Harry Dunkerley and an own goal gave the home side a 6-1 victory. Sam
Roden hit Lion’s consolation. |

The fourth came soon after
half time when a long ball found Haslam who comfortably lobbed the
keeper and a fifth came when Nwobi beat three men in the box before
smashing it in the far corner. Haslam nipped in to complete his
hat-trick and his fourth was a header from a corner. The final goal came
from a good run by Addie Gadour and the ball fell for Luca Defalco who
dinked it over the keeper
Another surprise came as two Matt Harrison strikes helped Oughtibridge
WM win 3-1 at WB Pheasant. Matt Harrison beat the offside trap before
crossing for Chas Tunnard to give Oughtibridge a fifth minute lead. A
second soon followed when Harrison again beat the back line, before
dinking the ball over the keeper. It soon got worse for Pheasant when
they were reduced to ten men, but they began to create chances and got
their reward when they were awarded a penalty and Jordan Stocks scored.
The second half saw Pheasant have plenty of the ball, but they were
frequently hit on the break and Harrison scored a third for the
visitors. It probably should have been more after that, but poor
finishing and a great save by keeper Statham stopped any further
scoring.
Despite James Cottingham giving them the lead in the first minute, the
newly combined AFC Dronfield slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Norton
Sportsman. Sportsman levelled when Danny Rogers was brought down by
Dronfield keeper Elliot Ellis and James Archer scored from the spot.
Ellis redeemed himself with a terrific stop from a free kick, but he was
beaten again in the second half when Michael Gibbons knock on was headed
home by Chris Lewis. Dronfield was having plenty of the ball, but
couldn’t break down the Sportsman defence and Sportsman finally wrapped
up the points when Callum Frith marked his comeback from two years out
with an injury by crossing for Gibbons to tap the ball home.
Jordan Turner quickly showed he still has an eye for goal by hitting a
hat-trick as Civil Sports came from two down to beat Norton Oaks 4-3.
Oaks struck first when Kyle Grantham headed across for Chris Pigott to
score, but Civil levelled before the break when a corner led to Rob
Shelley glancing the ball home. The second half saw Oaks go back in
front when Lewis Trevett was pulled down in the area and he picked
himself up to score from the spot. Elliot Hall then ran through the
Civil defence before passing for Grantham to round the keeper and score
Oaks third. Civil got back into it when a long goal kick went over the
Oaks defence and Turner beat the keeper to the ball to score. Another
ball over the top saw Turner smash home his second and he completed his
hat-trick to win it when he chipped the ball over the keeper.

SEP – DIVISION 1 –
Eckington power too much for Colley – Eckington Boys got their season off
to the perfect start with an 8-1 win at Colley. A lively start saw
Eckington ahead inside 10 minutes. A lofted pass from Joe Harris into
the path of Joe Renshaw saw a low cross turned home from close range by
Owen Ryan. Eckington continued their dominance and got their second when
a through ball from Tom Gardiner allowed Joe Renshaw score. Colley got
back into it when a penalty was given for a foul by Ethan Flower and
Chris Belshaw slammed the ball home. Eckington picked themselves up to
score two quick fire goals. Gardiner rifled one home from the edge of
the box before Joe Renshaw coolly slotted home just before the break.
Eckington dominated the second half and further goals from Ali Haydock,
Ethan Flower and a Harry Bell double completed the scoring.
The most thrilling game of the day saw Sam Smith hit a hat-trick for New
Bohemians as they twice came from behind to beat Cotts FC 5-4. Cotts
started quickly and Billy Wright gave them the lead, but Bohemians
equalised when a mistake from Cotts keeper was pounced upon by James
Hastings who squared to Sam Smith to simply tap it on. Bohemians then
went in front when right back Will Beaumont took it from inside his own
half before dancing through the Cotts defence, and rolling it into the
bottom corner. Michael Blythen equalised on the stroke of half time when
a brilliant 25 yard free kick into the top corner, but Bohemians started
quickly in the second half and Smith put them back in front.. Cotts hit
back to first level through Joe Moakes and then go in front through
Chris Salt, but Smith who tapped in his hat-trick to level, before
Hastings crossed for Matt Beck to win it for Bohemians.

SEP – DIVISION 2 –
Water Tower and Brinsworth Whitehill start with narrow wins –
In a pulsating game Brinsworth Whitehill were pushed all the way, but
came away from Jubilee Rangers with all three points thanks to a single
Lewis Szanto headed goal, and another narrow win came for League
newcomers Water Tower thanks to a single second half strike by Lewis
Fretwell at home against Beighton Magpies. The other newcomers, Red Lion
had to settle for a point at home against Mosborough Reds. Danny Howson
gave Reds a first half lead, but a Dan Beech goal in the second half
gave Lion a deserved share of the points.

SEP – TWENTYTWO CUP –
Chapeltown savage Shakey to go through –
Chapeltown RBL passed through to Round 2 of the League Twentytwo Cup as
Jay Carter scored twice in a comfortable 6-0 victory over Shakey.
Chapeltown RBL were quick out of the blocks with a first minute Mitch
Savage free kick finding its way under the Shakey keeper. Jay Carter
doubled the lead after soon after by finding the bottom corner from an
acute angle, before Savage turned provider by crossing for full back
Jacob Walkland to score at the back post. Captain Jack Marlow found the
top corner from distance after the hour mark, and good work down the
left from Ben Stringer resulted in an own goal to make it five, before
Jay Carter was brought down in the area late on and he picked himself up
to dink a penalty down the middle for his second goal.

3 SEP –
Fixtures for September and 3
October –
Fixtures for
SEPTEMBER & 3 OCTOBER are shown in the Fixtures section of the
League website. They include the draw for the Sunday Senior Cup on 12
September and the draw for the Sunday Junior Cup on 19 September, but
there could be changes to those cup ties in due course. It is the County
FA's responsibility to tell clubs who the referees are for the Sunday
Senior and Sunday Junior Cup ties. For the League and League Twentytwo Cup games
All home teams MUST make sure that
their home pitch is available on all the dates shown. Please email Keith
immediately if your pitch is not available on a date shown. All home
clubs MUST also confirm the details with your referees
and opponents for all dates shown as soon as they are shown. If you are
having to kick-off at a time other than 11 am, you MUST
make sure that both your referee, opponents and Keith are aware.
Any team that have opponents shown as "No game yet"
should NOT assume that they will have no game on that
date as we have often had to change fixtures at short notice as we try
to get as many games played as possible.
The referees are shown for 5 & 26 September, but we
cannot publish referees for the League games on 12 & 19 September until
we know which referees are needed for Sunday Cup ties.
The home clubs should later (the Tuesday before the
game) ring the referee to make sure the referee has got all the details.
If a referee says he cannot do a game listed for
them, please notify Keith immediately.
Matches without referees must still go ahead and, if
you have not been allocated a referee by the date of the game, the two
clubs must agree on a stand-in 'referee' between them.
Although Keith will still be working to gain more referees,
because we have a lower number of referees than in recent season, it is
very likely that some games may not have an official referee allocated
to them. If you find one yourself, will you let Keith know immediately
please.
The League Twentytwo Cup draw on 3 October is also
shown and we will subsequently appoint referees to those games
30 AUG –
Ground changes for Colley and
Wadsley Jack Athletic –
Both Colley and Wadsley Jack Athletic have had to change pitches after
Chaucer’s artificial pitch could no longer be used. Colley have moved to
King Edward’s and will now share with Sheffield South. Wadsley Jack
Athletic have moved to Forge Valley School and some of their games could
be Sunday afternoon kick-offs. |

15 AUG –
Fixtures for 5 September –
Fixtures for
5 SEPTEMBER are shown below. Any team that have opponents shown as
TBA should NOT assume that they will have no game on that date as we
have often had to change fixtures at short notice as we try to get as
many games played as possible. The remaining fixtures for September will
be published when we know the draws for the Sunday Cups due to be played
on 12 & 19 September
All home teams
MUST make sure that their home pitch is available on all the dates
shown. Please email Keith immediately if your pitch is not available on
