27 OCT - CBC PREMIER - All CBC Premier League games postponed - All the CBC Premier League games, and some in the other divisions, were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

27 OCT - DIVISION 1 - Oaks get a Stirrup up to hit back, while a Carty treble slows Boynton -  Richard Stirrup (left) hit Norton Oaks first as they came from two down to beat Woodhouse Juniors 4-2. Matt Cooper and Lee Williams strikes gave Woodhouse a two goal half time lead, but Oaks came out fighting in the second half and goals from Stirrup and Sam Smedley had them level, before an Oli West free kick put Oaks in front. Lewis Trevett confirmed the win with Oaks’ fourth that lifted them five places in the table.

A Carlton Carty (right) hat-trick saw Southey Social come from two down to almost beat top-spot chasing Boynton Sports, who were glad of a late Kurtis Cockburn equaliser to make it 4-4. Boynton started the first half quickly and took the lead when Ross Thompson flicked it to Nathan Davies to slot it under the keeper. They doubled their lead when Thompson found Marcus Gordon and his cross allowed Evan Watson to hit it into the bottom corner. Carty got Southey back into the game when he hit a real screamer and they levelled before half time when a quickly taken free-kick allowed Scott Ellis to hit another contender for goal of the season.

The second half saw Boynton go back in front when Davies followed up to score after seeing his first shot blocked, but two terrific free kicks by Carty saw Southey get their noses in front. It looked like a second defeat of the season for Boynton until a real comedy of errors in a goalmouth scramble allowed Cockburn to turn the ball home to level. Despite that it was Southey that pressed for a winner and Carty missed a great chance for his fourth, but Boynton hung on for a share of the spoils.

27 OCT - DIVISION 2 - Dan's the master and Commander for Phoenix, and Jack's the lad for Nether Green - Dan Commander (left) hit Brinsworth Phoenix's first and last goals in a good 5-3 win at Wadsley Jack Athletic. Commander got Phoenix off to a great start when he hit a left foot screamer and they doubled it with a Sam Firth penalty. Jack Hawkes made it three before half time and after the break a top quality John Mellor free kick made it four. Lewis Smith and Jerome Dunseath gave Wadsley hope with two strikes, but a quick break by Hawkes and Lewis Gibson set Commander for his second. Dunseath netted another for Wadsley, but Phoenix saw the game out.

Jack Price scored Nether Green's first in their 3-1 victory over Mosborough Reds to strengthen their place in the top three. After having to start the game with just ten men, Green found themselves a goal down at the interval after Jamie Damms provided the assist for Josh Smith to score. After the break the keeper stopped Jake Leonard from doubling Reds lead, but Green took charge after that and goals from Price, Harry Pollard and Brad Smith saw them take the points.

25 OCT - Mick Moat RIP - The Blades Super Draw League was extremely saddened to learn that Mick Moat, the secretary/manager of Hemsworth Villa for about 40 years and one of the most popular characters to ever grace the League, has sadly passed away. Mick also  acted as a photographer for the League and was one of the people that local Grassroots football was built on.

During his time his beloved Hemsworth Villa won Division Two in 1997/98 and were Runners-Up in the CBC Premier 2003/04 Mick was proud of every team he produced, but possibly his proudest moments in football came between 2003-2006 when Villa won three League Cup Finals at Bramall Lane.

He was one of the best to ever to be connected to the League and local football, and "A Football Legend" doesn't really do him justice. He will be very sorely missed by everyone that knew him. Our thoughts go to his family and friends.  - RIP Mick.

25 OCT - Fixtures for NOVEMBER 2019 now added - The Fixtures for NOVEMBER have now been added to the website. Home clubs should contact their opponents and Referees where shown ASAP for the whole month. Home clubs should also make sure their pitch provider has all the details ASAP.

20 OCT - SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - The magnificent eleven as Blades Super Draw League teams dominate - Eleven of our teams made it through to Round 3 of the Sunday Junior Cup, with no team losing to anyone outside the Blades Super Draw League. Niall Wilkinson (left) hit a hat-trick as Wadsley Jack Athletic had the biggest win, 8-3 at home against Maltby Main. Lewis Smith added two more, along with goals from George Scott, Lewis Smith and Liam Bracken.

Another to hit a hat-trick was Dan Beck in New Bohemians 5-1 victory over Homestead. Zach Burns and Thomas Burbeary netted Bohemians others. A third treble came from Luke Walker as he hit all his side's goals in a narrow 3-2 win over Aughton and Jack Price also hit three in Nether Green's 4-1 victory over fellow Division Two side Brinsworth Phoenix. Harry Pollard scored Green’s other, with Dan Commander netting for Phoenix.

Matt Jacobs netted twice as Ranch came from behind to beat The Pack Horse 3-2. Pack Horse scored first, but right on half time Ranch levelled with a Jay Lindsay penalty. Jacobs lobbed the keeper to put Ranch ahead after the break, but Pack Horse hit back with a real screamer into the top corner. The winner came when Jacobs turned on the edge of the box before finding the bottom corner.

Enos Huly also scored twice in Boynton Sports' extra time 4-3 victory at Renishaw Rangers. Marcus Gordon and Lee Jordan netted Boynton’s others, but they were pushed all the way. Another double came from Southey Social skipper Todd Guest as Southey gained revenge for their recent League defeat with a narrow 3-2 victory at Civil Sports. In an even first half, it was Southey that took the lead when good work by Jamie Roper paved the way for Guest to score, and he doubled Southey’s lead before half time when he headed home from a Kieran Hopkinson free kick. Rob Shelley pulled one back for Civil after the break, but Jamie Hopkins restored Southey’s two goal lead. Dylan Fletcher reduced the arrears again for Civil, but Southey hung on.

The narrowest victory went Eckington's way, beating fellow Division Two Mosborough Reds in a penalty shoot-out after drawing 2-2 after extra time. A tie that was end to end throughout saw Eckington take a first half lead with a Danny Williams strike. Mosborough came out strong in the second half and deservedly levelled with a terrific James Arrand strike, before taking the lead when an Eckington defender turned the ball into his own net. A long throw into the box and a great header by Liam Foulstone levelled the game, and with neither side able to find the net again during normal and extra time, the game was decided by a penalty shoot-out, won 5-4 by Eckington.

Another narrow win came as Woodhouse Juniors beat Mexborough Athletic 3-2 thanks to Brad Howard, Dan Lockwood and Tom Duffield strikes, and Prince of Wales victory at AFC Trades with a single Dan Nielson headed goal. The day’s last tie saw Sheffield Sixs record a 4-0 victory over fellow Division One side Colley Jack Elms gave Sixs an early lead, which was extended midway through the first half by Jack Battle and Harry Buxton goals in a four minute spell. Colley struggled to make any impact and it was left to Brad Howe to complete the scoring midway through the second half.

20 OCT - CBC PREMIER - Ruthless Redmires put the champs to the sword, whilst Jack's alright for Sportsman - Tom Whiting's double took his season's tally to fifteen as Redmires gained a deserved 4-2 victory over champions Wadsley Bridge Pheasant. Danny Reet put Redmires ahead before Whiting (left) hit his first. A Jordan Stocks free kick reduced the arrears, but Sean Maloney took advantage of a mistake to restore Redmires two goal lead just before the break. Whiting added his second before Luke Fletcher pulled another back for Pheasant, but they were unable to add to it.

Jack Waymouth (right) also scored twice as Norton Sportsman gained their first League win of the season, 2-0 at Stannington Village. Norton took an early lead when Waymouth headed home from a Connor Pryde cross and an offside flag stopped Pryde from doubling it soon after. Norton continued to take the game to the home side and finally got a deserved second when James Archer crossed for Waymouth to head home again.

Jamie-Lee Fawcett also grabbed two as Wickersley Youth came from two down to win 4-3 at Woodseats Club. Two Liam Bryan strikes for Woodseats saw Wickersley two down minutes for the fourth game running, but they hit back instantly when Adam Daughtrie‘s low cross found an unmarked Jamie Fawcett at the back post. Soon after half time Fawcett turned provider by crossing for Nathan Taylor to head just inside the near post to level. Wickersley went ahead when Adam Pursehouse received the ball on the wing and after a darting run to the byline, his inch perfect cross allowed Brad Carroll to hammer home. A minute later the ball was ping ponging in the Woodseats box when it fell to Fawcett to score his second. 2:4. Ben Southwell reduced the arrears following a corner and Woodseats pressed for an equaliser, but Wickersley held on.

Matt Cowen and Eshan Mohammad both scored twice as Crookes comfortably beat Cotts 6-1. Cowen’s two and Mohammad’s first had Crookes in control at the break and, soon after the restart, Joel Purkiss and Mohammad’s second put them 5-0 in front. Ryan Lee netted Cotts consolation when they were awarded a penalty, but Crookes completed the scoring with a Tom Islip strike.

20 OCT - DIVISION 1 - Taylor looks smart to send Cobden View top -  Joe Taylor netted twice as Cobden View beat Norton Oaks 3-1 to go top of Division One. Oaks were their own worst enemies as all three Cobden goals came whilst an Oaks player had been sin-binned. Cobden went ahead when Sam Porter was brought down in the area by the Oaks keeper and Taylor stepped up to score his first. Aaron Ellis headed home a Taylor corner to double the lead before half time and Taylor Headed home at the back post soon after the break for his second. Oaks never gave up though and Jack Peake pulled one back when they were awarded a penalty.

20 OCT - DIVISION 2 - Beardsley treble gets Darfield off the mark and Magpies fly for the first time - Jordan Beardsley netted a hat-trick as Darfield United walloped second place Shakey to gain their first points of the season. Beardsley gave Darfield the lead, but it was soon cancelled out by Liam Moorhouse. Kailum McDermott restored Darfield’s lead only for a Mikey Taylor penalty to even things up again. Sean Bunyan was then brought down in the area and he picked himself up to score from the spot to give Darfield a half time lead. The second half saw Beardsley take the ball round the keeper for his second, before completing his hat-trick when Darfield were awarded a second penalty, and the victory was completed when Elliott Phelan scored at the back post.

Beighton Magpies also got off the mark with a narrow 3-2 victory over Cadbury. Jacob Beech put Cadbury ahead when his free-kick twirled past the keeper, but Magpies levelled before half time when Todd Saxelby met a perfect cross to head home. Dale Featherstone put Magpies ahead straight after the break when he beat the offside trap, but it looked like they would have to settle for a point when Cadbury was awarded a penalty in the final minute, that was calmly tucked away by Benji Holmes. With time almost out, the drama wasn’t over. Magpies won a corner that was met by Danny King to drill home the winner to give them their first three points of the season.

17 OCT - STEVE GEE MERIT CUP FINAL - Colley pip Southey Social in the Steve Gee Merit Cup Final - The Steve Gee Merit Cup Final at Stocksbridge Park Steels Look Local Stadium saw Division One rivals Colley and Southey Social produce a real cracker that was only decided by a 10-9 penalty shoot out after a 2-2 draw.

Colley had the first sight of goal came when Billy Thorley almost beat Southey keeper Callum Jones to a bad back pass. Colley’s pressure finally saw them take a 15th minute lead when a mistake allowed  Man of the Match "Phonse" Hussein to set up Matt Jebson to fire low into the corner. Southey hit back and attempts by Ryan Damms and Kieran Hopkinson were deflected for corners. Colley then had a good spell of control, with a Jebson cross causing Jones problems, before having a great chance to double their lead, but Matt Meaney could only scoop it wide. Just before half time  Damms went down in the Colley penalty area but referee Pete Henger adjudged the player to have dived showed him the yellow card. Southey’s Hopkinson was also booked a few minutes later for a foul on Hussein.

The second half saw Southey pile on the pressure in the search of an equaliser and Ryan Whitney hit the post and Damms, had a shot cleared off the line. Against the run of play, Colley doubled their lead when Danny Parker hit a powerful curling shot that left Jones with no chance. Southey hit back immediately with Byron Mullen crossing for Ryan Damms to head home at the near post and they piled on even more pressure after that. In a series of corners, Damms then had a shot cleared off the line before Southey’s captain Todd Guest had a header clawed off the line by keeper James Abramski and Scott Ellis had a shot deflected over the bar.

Finally the Southey pressure paid off when another Mullen cross was deflected into his own net by Colley’s Chris Fowler. Guest then headed over, but despite further Southey pressure Colley held on to take the game to a penalty shoot-out. It looked like the shoot-out would never end with the keepers standing no chance until the 19th penalty saw Colley's veteran keeper James Abramski make the save from Matt Betts, allowing Akram Miladi to step up to score to win the trophy for Colley for the first time. The game had been a real credit to all concerned and a very good evening was completed by the teams taking advantage of an excellent pint of “Chantrey Iron & Steel” in the bar.

13 OCT - SUNDAY SENIOR CUP - Pheasant pluck Three Feathers, Youth too much for Village and Purkiss wrecks The Cottage - Luke Fletcher (left) hit a hat-trick as Wadsley Bridge Pheasant won at Rotherham League's Three Feathers in a real seven goal thriller. Fletcher rifled Pheasant into the lead and it was doubled when Ash Simpson headed home from a corner. The home side thought they had a route back into the game when they were awarded a penalty, but Joel Statham (right) saved to keep Pheasant’s lead intact. The home side were dealt a further blow before half time when they had a player dismissed.

It didn’t seem to disrupt Feathers too much though as they hit back to level after the break, but Pheasant went back in front when a quick break by Joe Woodhouse then found Fletcher who lobbed the keeper. Feathers kept up the pressure after that and it looked like they had forced extra time when they equalised in the first minute of added time, but Pheasant went straight down to the other end and when the ball landed at Fletcher’s feet at the back post, he slammed the ball home to complete his hat-trick and send Pheasant through.

Pheasant will meet fellow Blades Super Draw CBC Premier side Redmires in the next round after they comfortably beat Division Two side Killamarsh Juniors. John Parry scored four for Redmires and Tom Whiting took his tally in the past three weeks to eleven with three. Danny Reet and Conall Jacklin also hit hat-tricks along with two from Sean Maloney and an own goal.

Wickersley Youth came out on top of the other all-Blades Super Draw League clash at CBC Premier rivals Stannington Village 5-3. Wickersley went behind for the third consecutive game when a cross from Joe Barker found Bill Green who superbly glanced home with his head. Wickersley levelled when Jamie Fawcet (left) tapped in from six yards, but Stannington went back in front just before half-time when a good move saw Joe Barker square the ball for Shaun Flynn to sidefoot home.

Five minutes into the second half Wickersley levelled a second time when Joe McGuiness nipped round a defender before slipping a low shot past the keeper. Wickersley got their noses in front when Matt Godley and Nathan Taylor combined to make the chance for Fawcett to score his second, but it was Stannington’s turn to level when Callum Lee’s cross was headed back for Ben Cook to head home at the near post. Ten minutes from time Godley’s long ball found Jordan Thomas loose on the edge of the area and he put Wickersley back in front with an angled shot and five minutes from time when a darting run from McGuiness saw him tripped outside the area, Godley hit the free kick into  the roof of the net to clinch the victory

Joel Purkiss (right) hit four as Crookes comfortably beat Mexborough’s The Cottage 9-1. Crookes took just five minutes to take the lead with a Liam Cartledge  penalty and although The Cottage quickly levelled, Crookes soon regained the lead when Purkiss chipped the keeper. Purkiss added his second before half-time and completed his hat-trick soon after the break. Tom Staniland, Danny Flynn with two and Pete Smith all added their names to the scoresheet before Purkiss completed the scoring with his fourth. Norton Sportsman couldn’t join them in Round 3 after falling to a heavy defeat at MonkWood.

13 OCT - CBC PREMIER - Handsworth off the mark - Handsworth Pub climbed off the foot of the CBC Premier table with their first three points of the season with a 2-1 victory over local rivals Cotts. Handsworth started like a house on fire and goals from Sam Marsden and Ben Shackshaft (left) quickly had them two up. Cotts FC pulled one back when Sam Stacey ghosted into the box to head home. Cotts FC had further chances in the first half and hit the woodwork, but Tom Crosby in the Handsworth goal and his defence dealt with all that was thrown at them. The second half started by Handsworth having a lot of possession without hurting the Cotts defence, but even though Cotts again began to dominate, the Handsworth defence held firm

13 OCT - DIVISION 1 - Stirrup gives Oaks a leg up, as Walker and Meadows double up to send Whites top -  Richard Stirrup (right) showed his class with four goals as Norton Oaks moved out of the bottom three by knocking Intake Old Boys off the top of Division One with a 6-3 victory over them. Stirrup, making his debut, had Oaks two up before Calum Paine pulled one back from the penalty spot. Stirrup then completed his hat-trick, but Intake stayed in the game with a Jack Heald strike before half time. After the break, Stirrup hit his fourth and although Intake again pulled one back through Elliott Coles, they were twice caught out by quick breaks as Lewis Trevett and Will Carlisle confirmed Oaks’ first win since February.

Colley started the day in second, but they also slipped to defeat, 2-1 at Boynton Sports. Although the first half had few chances, Boynton missed the best of them when they were awarded a penalty, but Colley’s veteran keeper James Abramski saved to keep the teams level. Boynton did take the lead after the break when Abramski could only tip a shot onto the bar and Enos Huly was first to the ball to score. Colley responded and a defence-splitting ball allowed Matt Jebson to level. Both sides had chances after that but the best fell to Kurtis Cockburn and he duly obliged with a peach of a goal for the winner.

Those results allowed Mosborough Whites to go top as Luke Walker and Jordan Meadows (left) both scored twice in a convincing 5-0 victory over Chapeltown RBL. The game changing moment came when the Chapeltown keeper brought Joe Glover down just outside the area and the referee had no choice than to dismiss him. After that, Whites went all out on the attack and Walker put them ahead with a free kick. Meadows added a second by converting a fierce Glover cross. Walker made it three with a mazy run through a sea of defenders before finishing into the corner and Glover made it four when he calmly netted after being put through. Meadows didn’t want to be out done and after seemingly trying dozens of shots, he was finally presented with his second with an open goal.

Player manager Gary Eades scored the clincher as Civil Sports went second with a 3-1 victory at Ranch. After hitting the post early in the game, Civil took the lead through James Brown. Ranch’s task was then made harder when a defender was dismissed for denying a goalscoring opportunity and right on half time Torick Akram doubled Civil’s lead. Ranch came out fighting after the break and with the ten men dominating, they deservedly pulled one back through Jack Williams. That stunned Civil out of their slumber and Eades settled their nerves with a sublime finish.

Sheffield Sixs are still searching for their first points of the season after slipping to an agonizing 4-3 home defeat by Cobden View. Brad Howe gave Sixs the lead after just five minutes, but Tim Pitt (right) levelled for Cobden before half time. Howe put Sixs back in front early in the second half, but a second by Pitt and one from Mike McVay put Cobden in front. Sixs looked to have saved a point when Jack Battle produced a superb long range strike in the final minute, but in the final minute of stoppage time a McVay shot took a massive deflection past the Sixs keeper to gift Cobden the points.

Another late goal gave Woodhouse Juniors a share of the spoils, 2-2 at Southey Social. After an even first half of few chances, Southey looked like getting on top, but were caught on the break and Elliott Metcalfe put Woodhouse in front. Southey responded and two Kieran Hopkinson penalties put them in charge, but some terrific defending and goalkeeping kept Woodhouse in the game and their reward for that was a last gasp Lee Williams equaliser.

13 OCT - DIVISION 2 - Ivan's terrible to Shakey and Sam's the man to send Bohemians top – Ivan Adrian (left) hit a hat-trick to give Prince of Wales a share of the points in a 4-4 draw at a Shakey that started the day on top of Division Two. Liam Jacobi gave a perfectly weighted pass to Ivan Adrian, who skipped past the left back before beating the keeper. Shakey hit back instantly with a Billy Hilbert free kick finding the net, but Prince went back in front when pressure from Brad Gray forced a defensive error and Charlie Hawkins ran through to calmly finish. Shakey hit back again and Liam Moorhouse brought them level a second time.

The second half saw Prince go back in front a third time when James Roffey provided a route one pass for Adrian to score his second. Shakey roared back again and Hilbert netted his second to level a third time and it looked like they would keep top spot when Steve Dickinson gave them the lead. It would have been cruel on Prince, but they got their deserved share of the points when Hawkins produced a cheeky lob over the defence for Adrian to bring down, go round the keeper and fire into the open net. Prince threw everything at Shakey for a winner, but a draw was a fair result.

New Bohemians took full advantage to overtake Shakey and go top as a Sam Smith (right) hat-trick was the highlight in a convincing victory over an Eckington side that started the day in second. A good early start from Eckington saw a volley from Tom Gambles brilliantly saved by the Bohemians keeper, but it was Bohemians that went in front when Eckington keeper Ed Davidson brought James Hastings down and Hastings picked himself up to score from the spot. Eckington equalised before half time though, when a great cross from Pat Stothard was met by Tom Gambles.

Bohemians re-took the lead soon after the break when a corner saw Ross McCarthy rise highest to loop a header over the keeper. Another keeper saw Sam Smith produce a cheeky back-heel to double Bohemians lead. Smith then scored a terrific solo goal to put Bohemians in complete command and he completed his hat-trick after a smart one-touch passing move left him with the simple task of putting the ball home.

Nether Green pushed Eckington down to fourth after a Tom Davis (left) hat-trick helped Green to a 6-2 victory over Darfield United. Jack Hollis-Smith, Harry Pollard and Jack Price netted Green’s others, but their man of the match award went to Jordan Harrison-Rennie for his absolute rock of a display at the back. Kailam Mcdermott and Elliott Phelan netted for Darfield.

A George Scott (right) double helped Wadsley Jack Athletic to their first win of the season, 6-2 against Beighton Magpies. Magpies struck first when a well worked corner allowed Adrian Good to score, but Wadsley hit back to lead at half time with two from Scott. After Leon Dearns had netted a third, Todd Saxelby scored Magpies second, but Reece James, Will Fisher and a first goal for seven years for man of the match Callum Huntington made it a convincing win for Wadsley.

11 OCT  - Race night for Phil - Intake Old Boys secretary Phil Jowett (left) has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and is going through a tough time at the minute. Phil he has been a popular figure around grassroots football for over 25 years so his long standing friend Kev Sheedy has organised a fund raising race night for Phil so we can give him something back. 8 OCT - LEAGUE TWENTYTWO CUP - Three all-CBC Premier ties in the Round 3 Draw - The draw for Round 3 of the League Twentytwo Cup was made by the Crystal Peaks' Library Sporting Memories group today and it saw three all-CBC Premier ties come out of the hat. The full draw is: Chapeltown RBL v Norton Oaks; Civil Sports or Boynton Sports v Woodhouse JFC or Royal Earl; Colley v Wickersley Youth OV; Crookes FC v Cotts FC; Eckington BFC v Ranch; Redmires v Handsworth Pub; Stannington Village v Killamarsh Juniors or Southey Social; Woodseats Club v Norton Sportsman. Pictured right is two of the Sporting Memories group that made the draw, Dave Redfern (left) and John Longstaff MBE (right).

The following games will be scheduled for 3 November: Chapeltown RBL v Norton Oaks; Colley v Wickersley Youth OV; Crookes FC v Cotts FC; Eckington BFC v Ranch; Redmires v Handsworth Pub; Woodseats Club v Norton Sportsman. Providing the three postponed ties are played as re-scheduled, the following ties will probably then be scheduled for 1 December: Stannington Village v Killamarsh Juniors or Southey Social; Civil Sports or Boynton Sports v Woodhouse JFC or Royal Earl.

6 OCT - LEAGUE TWENTYTWO CUP - Eager Beever at the double as Eckington shock Oughtibridge - Round 2 of the League Twentytwo Cup saw just one shock, with a Ben Beever (left) double helping Division Two newcomers Eckington Boys come from two down to win 3-2 at CBC Premier and 2015 winners Oughtibridge WM. The home side made a strong start and took the lead early with a Tom Galloway header in the box. Despite Eckington beginning to gain momentum they were dealt a sucker punch after failing to clear and Brad Fletcher produced a tidy finish from outside the box to make it 2-0. Matt Harrison could have made it 3-0 when he hit the post, but Eckington were growing into the game and Beever’s run down the right allowed him to get in behind the defence and drive a low, hard shot into the bottom corner.

A great start to the second half saw Eckington pile on the pressure in search of an equaliser and a great run from left back saw Owen Ryan beat two men, before he calmly slotted underneath the keeper to equalise. The game now became open with chances at either end and only a great save by Eckington keeper Luke Sanderson stopped Oughtibridge going back in front, but in the 75th minute Eckington got what proved to be the winner when a ball over the top was controlled by Ben Beever before he rounded the keeper to score.

Another former winner to go out was Wadsley Bridge Pheasant who slipped to an extra time 4-3 defeat at CBC Premier title rivals Stannington Village. Stannington started brightly and had a few chances before taking a deserved lead when a through ball from Danny Smith found Shaun Flynn who finished well

Pheasant hit back and got a deserved equaliser before half time with a Jordan Stocks penalty. Pheasant continued on top after the break and got their rewards with a Josh Statham strike and they looked likely to go through until a last minute scramble allowed Josh Allison to equalise. Lewis Fothergill put Pheasant back in front in extra time, but Stannington replied immediately when Lewis Dickinson bet two men on the edge of the area before finding the bottom corner. Stannington looked the stronger team now and they won it when a quick break allowed Dickinson to put Lee Johnstone away and, although his shot was blocked, the rebound fell to Piers Bond to score.

The nearest to a shock elsewhere was at CBC Premier Cotts, who needed extra time and a penalty shoot-out before finally beating Division One Sheffield Sixs. Cotts led at half time with a Sam Stacey header, but after the break an horrendous keeper error by veteran keeper James Newsome gifted Brad Howe an equaliser for Sixs. Sixs then hit the bar twice and the post, but Cotts held on and after the stalemate continued in extra time, Cotts won the penalty shoot-out 5-3

Another close call came at Division One Cobden View, who were just edged out by a CBC Premier and former holders Handsworth Pub in a seven goal thriller. After four straight league defeats Handsworth were looking to kick start their season, and they took the lead when Jas Colliver connected perfectly an outrageous strike from just inside his own half. The game then spread and Cobden View equalised when Sean Robinson curled a beauty into the top and then took the lead in the space of two minutes with a second from Robinson. A powerful team talk by Handsworth’s interim manager Ryan Goodinson got a positive second half display and Matty Ellis (right) equalised with a lovely finish after hard work by big Ben Shackshaft. Handsworth keeper Tom Crosby was called upon to keep them in the game before eventually being beaten by a cross shot from Tim Pitt that looped in the top corner. Once again Handsworth responded and when the ball dropped on the edge of the area that man Colliver was first to react and caressed it in level. Extra time looked certain until Sam Marsden latched onto a flick and volleyed it home to send Handsworth through.

Division One Norton Oaks just squeezed through 3-2 at Division Two Mosborough Reds. Great play by Jake Leonard paved the way for Alix Sorsby to round the Oaks keeper to put Reds in front, but Oaks equalised right on half time with a Conor.Rogers header. After no further goals in the second half, extra time saw debutant Brad Rogers put Oaks in front and a Russ Worley volley made it 3-1 in the second half of extra time. Scott Williams pulled one back for Reds, but Oaks held on.

Another close game saw Division One Chapeltown RBL just pipped Division Two Shakey 2-1. Postman Ben Stringer showed he could deliver both on and off the pitch with a first class chip over the keeper to put RBL ahead and Joe Moorhouse doubled the lead before half time when he bundled in from close range. Shakey had a few chances in the second half and pulled one back when Adam Rowley found the net, but the RBL defence made sure they went through.

Elsewhere, CBC Premier clubs went through comfortably with Crookes, including 4 goal Liam Cartledge (left), leading the way by beating Division Two Prince of Wales 15-0. Prince’s chances weren’t helped by a depleted squad, that was further reduced to ten when Ben Sheldon came off with an injury allowing Crookes to run riot.

Woodseats Club produced an impressive performance to beat Division One leaders Intake Old Boys 7-0. Liam Bryan (right) led the way with a hat-trick, whilst Woodseats others came from a Ben Southwell double and one each from Cole Oliver and Reece Sturman. Redmires beat Division Two Nether Green 7-1 with Tom Whiting scoring four for a second week running. Andy Bath, Danny Reet and an own goal was Redmires other scorers, whilst Tom Wellman hit Green’s consolation.

Despite falling behind to an Elliott Phelan strike from a narrow angle for the home side, Wickersley Youth won 6-1 at Division Two Darfield United. Kris Lee-Green equalised when he took the ball in area and beat two defenders to score from 8 yards and he put Wickersley in front with a header over the keeper. He should have completed his hat-trick before half time, but skied a penalty over the bar. Soon after the break, a low cross from McGuiness saw a diving header from Jordan Thomas extend the lead and McGuiness headed in number four from a Brook Whitmill cross. Sam Terry then crossed for Ben Thornton to beat the keeper and Thornton grabbed his second in the final minute.

Norton Sportsman also hit six to beat Division Two Wadsley Jack Athletic 6-1. Jack Waymouth set up Josh Gibson for a tap in to give Norton the lead, but that was the only goal until after the break. Jack Waymouth latched onto a James Archer pass to double Norton’s lead, but Leon Dearns quickly pulled one back for the visitors. Two each from Archer and Antony Holmes settled it for the home side though.

Division One Colley beat Division Two Cadbury 6-2. Colley started like a house on fire and found themselves two up in eight minutes through a Danny Parker (left) screamer and a smart James Malone finish. Colley continued to press, but a mistake allowed Corey Stewart to pull one back before half time. Another from Parker and a Faisal Miladi strike put Colley in control and although Jacob Beech netted a second for Cadbury, Parker coolly finished to complete his hat trick, before Matt Jebson scored Colley’s sixth. Despite Cadbury missing a late penalty Colley comfortably went through.

Ranch managed their first clean sheet at home for over a season to put out fellow Division One side Mosborough Whites 2-0. Ranch keeper Alex Smith made a number of good saves to keep the game scoreless in the first half and he made a couple of more important saves after the break. It wasn’t one-way traffic though and with just a quarter of the game remaining, Ty Gunter carved out the chance for Jack Jones to fire Ranch ahead, and as Whites pushed for an equaliser, a quick break saw Matt Jacobs seal the win for Ranch

Three ties, Civil Sports v Boynton Sports, Killamarsh Juniors v Southey Social and Woodhouse Juniors v Royal Earl were all postponed due to waterlogged pitches. All will be re-scheduled, probably in November.

6 OCT - DIVISION 2 - Hastings double helps Bohemians go top - James Hastings (right) scored twice as League newcomers New Bohemians won 5-1 at Beighton Magpies to go top of Division Two. Hastings opened the scoring with a penalty after just five minutes, before Sam Smith quickly added Bohemians second. It stayed like that until the second half when Jono Cooper’s deflected strike made it three. The Beighton keeper then passed a goal kick straight to Hastings for him to add his second, and although newcomer Faria Chiveto pulled one back for Beighton, Zach Burns curling effort completed the scoring for the visitors.
