29 SEPT - SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - Jacobs goes crackers as Ranch prune the Roses - Matt Jacobs (left) hit a hat-trick as Ranch became the fifteenth Blades Super Draw side in Round 2 of the County FA Sunday Junior Cup after a 4-1 victory over Imperial League Ecclesfield Red Rose. In challenging conditions, Ranch dominated from the start and after missing chance after chance they finally opened the scoring when a cross gave a Matt Jacobs an easy tap in. Red Rose then scored a puddle assisted equaliser! Adam Hollingsworth restored Ranch’s lead with a brilliant shot into the top corner, before Jacobs scored one with his left and the last with his head to cap off a perfect hat-trick. Ranch will now face Rotherham & District Sunday League's The Pack Horse in Round 2.

29 SEPT - CBC PREMIER - McGuiness on tap to set Wickersley on their way to first win of the season – On a day when waterlogged pitches put paid to all but one CBC Premier game, Joe McGuiness (right) set Wickersley Youth on their way to their first CBC Premier win of the season - 4-1 at home against Handsworth Pub.

Handsworth shocked their hosts by taking the lead when a Callum Riley corner kick flew straight in. Wickersley levelled when Brook Whitmill’s low cross put away by McGuiness and they took the lead when another cross was turned in by Jamie-Lee Fawcett. Their third came on the stroke of half time when Mike Cuckson showed some nifty footwork  before hitting a low drive into the corner of the net. After the break it took two terrific saves by the Handsworth keeper to stop Fawcett and Sam Terry adding to the score, but a fourth came when Kristian Lee-Green provided the ball for Jordan Thomas to beat the keeper.

29 SEPT - DIVISION 1 - Cowell has the X Factor to lift Legion up to second -  Morgan Cowell set Chapeltown RBL on their way to a 3-1 victory at Sheffield Sixs and up to third in Division One. RBL started well and took the lead when Morgan Cowell fired in a great left footed strike and he then had the chance to double their advantage from the penalty spot, but saw his spot kick saved by Jack Selby in the Six’s net. Veteran Dale Shaw increased RBL's lead soon after though, meeting a Ben Stringer corner to power home a header. In the second half Six's pressed but couldn't quite get the breakthrough and RBL punished them in the 70th minute when Joe Moorhouse raced clear and calmly chipped the keeper. Six's did pull one back late in the day when Connor Lomax followed up after keeper Joe Hindmarch had saved the initial effort.

They overtook Mosborough Whites who twice had to come from two down to nick a point in the last minute at Norton Oaks. Oaks started very quickly and went into a 2-0 lead through Will Carlisle and a Jack Peake (left) penalty. Whites got it back to 2-1 when Brad Gledhill ghosted in at back post and Dec Healy levelled before half time with a close range header. After the break Carlisle and Mark Turton restored Oaks’ two goal lead, but late in the game Joe Glover pulled one back with a towering header and after an injury made Oaks replace their keeper, the stand-in was beaten in the final minute by Callum Congreave to make the final score 4-4.

Up to fifth is Civil Sports after their win at Southey Social inspired by a Jordan Turner hat-trick. Civil started brightly, pressing Southey all over the park and getting rewards by going into the break 4-0 up. The second half saw a different Southey who took the game to Civil they quickly got two back through Ryan Damms and Luke Parwana, but Civil got the all-important next goal which sunk Southey and gave a quality Civil side the impetus to see the game out  with two more goals. Civils other goals came from a James Brown double and one each for Tom Bamford and Dylan Fletcher.

Boynton Sports took their first three points of the season with a 2-1 victory at Cobden View. A tight first half with Cobden probably edging it. The second half was starting the same but Boynton capitalised on defensive mistakes and went two up with Simon Marsden and Marcus Gordon strikes. Tim Pitt pulled one back for Cobden with a header from a Joe Taylor corner, but they just couldn't find the equaliser and Boynton defended well to hold on.

29 SEPT - DIVISION 2 - Goals galore as leaders left groggy by a double Becks - Brothers Dan and Matt Beck both hit the net as Division Two leaders Shakey were shaken to the core by 7-0 defeat at the hands of a rampant New Bohemians. With the home side controlling the game from start to finish, Jack Brownell opened the scoring from outside the box into the bottom corner, before Will Beaumont headed a second from a corner. Tom Denton then made a fantastic save to stop Shakey from pulling one back. James Hastings found the bottom corner for Bohemians third and the last move of the first half saw Dan Beck made no mistake from a low cross. Straight after the break Matt Beck added a fifth and even when Shakey were awarded a penalty, a fantastic save by Denton kept his clean sheet. Sam Brown then scored a tap in after a wonderful ball in from a Jono Cooper free kick, before Matt Beck made it seven late on.

‘Patrick’ Mtimbusya hit a hat-trick as Nether Green also went goal crazy at Killamarsh Juniors expense. Jack Hollis-Smith, Harry Pollard, Andy Knotts and Jack Price added Green’s others in the 7-0 romp.

There was even more goals, including a George Scott (right) hat-trick, in a thrilling 5-5 draw between Wadsley Jack Athletic and visitors Prince of Wales. Scott scored his first from the penalty spot to put Wadsley ahead, but Brad Gray, Brad Leather and Matt Waterhouse linked up to create the chance for Dale Furniss to equalise. The Wadsley keeper then found a Charlie Hawkins free kick too hot to handle and Dan Nielson nipped in to put Prince ahead at half time.

After the break a Reece James double put Wadsley ahead, but Prince hit back straight away with Liam South heading in a Hawkins corner and they went back in front when Ivan Adrian flicked on for Luke Simmonds to go through and lob the keeper. A second Scott penalty drew Wadsley level, but Prince went back in front when an Adrian shot took a deflection off South and loop over the keeper, but in the final minute Scott nipped in front of the keeper to complete his hat-trick and give Wadsley a share of the spoils.

22 SEPT - SUNDAY SENIOR CUP - Legends no match for Whiting - Tom Whiting (left) scored four and Jon Wall two as Redmires comfortably went through Round 1 of the County FA Sunday Senior Cup with a 6-2 victory over Sheffield Legends. Redmires will now face Killamarsh Juniors in Round 2 in October.

22 SEPT - SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - A hat-trick of hat-tricks as Eckington go through with 13 others - On a day when none of our clubs lost to a team outside the Blades Super Draw, 14 Blades Super Draw teams went through to Round 2 of the Sunday Junior Cup. Joel Cousins, Ben Beever and Pat Stathard all hit hat-tricks as Eckington BFC won 12-1 at Dearne & District and two more hat-tricks came from Sam Smith and James Hastings in New Bohemians 12-2 victory over Brinsworth Whitehill U21.

More hat-tricks came from skipper Simon Marsden as Boynton Sports swept past Spire Rangers 7-1, and from Connor Lomax as Sheffield Sixs twice came from behind to beat Ball Inn 6-4. Billy Thorley scored twice as Colley saw off Sheffield Roses 4-0 and Jack Dickens grabbed two for Southey Social, but they needed extra time and a Ryan Damms winner to go through 3-2 at Beighton Welfare. Civil Sports had five different scorers in their 5-1 home win over Midland, whilst George Scott and Niall Wilkinson strikes gave Wadsley Jack Athletic a 2-0 victory at JP Steelers.

The three minor shocks all game from all-Blades Super Draw ties. Division Two Nether Green had five different scorers in a very impressive 5-1 victory at Division One Chapeltown RBL and Division Two Prince of Wales won 2-1 at Division One Norton Oaks. Luke Simmonds gave Prince the lead just before half time when he finished off a Charlie Hawkins corner. After the break Prince created many more chances, but they were caught on the break and Jack Peake struck to bring Oaks level. Prince restored their lead almost immediately when Simmonds broke clear and Hawkins slammed the ball into the top corner. It would have been even more convincing had Hawkins not skied a penalty over the bar after Simmonds had been brought down in the area.

Division One leaders Intake Old Boys crashed out to fellow Division One club Woodhouse Juniors with a Lee Williams double and one from Henry Bradshaw giving Woodhouse a 3-0 victory. Mosborough Whites were finalists two seasons ago and if they maintain the form that saw them beat fellow Division One side Cobden View 6-1, then they could well be on their way to the final again. Jack Waddle created the opening for Luke Walker (right) to open the scoring and Joe Glover quickly added Whites’ second. Walker then twice cut in from the right to rifle into the bottom corner to complete his hat-trick before half time. Kingsley Lewin added the fifth with a free kick into the bottom corner, before Liam Riley crossed for Julian Lawrence to head the sixth. Sam Porter netted a late consolation for Cobden.

Mosborough Reds joined the Whites in the next round with a 1-0 home win over fellow Division Two side Darfield United. The winner came after just 15 minutes when Jake Leonard crossed for James Arrand to fire into the bottom corner. It was much more conclusive when two more Division Two teams met, with Brinsworth Phoenix beating Beighton Magpies 7-1. Joe Statham hit two of them and Kyle Lawton capped his man of the match performance with one of the others.

22 SEPT - CBC PREMIER - Crookes come unstuck against Stannington and Cotts undone by Pheasant as Earl go top – Although two newly promoted clubs, Cotts and Crookes, fell to their first defeats of the season, last season’s Division One champions, Royal Earl, has yet to drop a point and a 5-2 victory at Woodseats Club sent them to the top of the CBC Premier. Steve Brammer (left) did most of the damage with a hat-trick and Earl’s others came from Michael Towey and Sam Smith. 3-0 down at the break, Woodseats produced a better second half display and deserved their two goals from Lewis Whitaker and Tom Turner.

Champions Wadsley Bridge Pheasant are second after their 6-2 victory at Cotts. Aaron Statham put Pheasant ahead with a bullet header and Carl Andrews (right) quickly doubled their lead. Jon Dolan took advantage of a mix-up in the Pheasant defence to pull one back for Cotts before half time, but second half strike by Ellis Bingham and an own goal from a Dylan Parrott corner saw Pheasant go clear. Perry Jackson netted a second from the penalty spot. Pheasant were then awarded a penalty and although it was initially saved by the Cotts keeper, Jordan Livett followed up to score and Pheasant completed the scoring when Todd burst through the Cotts defence and squared the ball for Parrott to score.

Crookes found out how hard life will be in the Premier with a 3-1 home defeat by Stannington Village. After a tight opening half hour it was Stannington that went ahead when a Joe Barker cross was volleyed home by Alex Torr. They quickly doubled their lead when a Lewis Dickinson corner found Shaun Flynn and although his shot was blocked by his teammate Ben Cook, the ball fell kindly for Lee Johnstone to sidefoot home. After the break Jimmy Middleton and Barker combined for Flynn to slide in to score Stannington’s third, but after Tom Staniland had pulled one back for Crookes, both Dean Jepson and Joe Bedford missed good chances to make Stannington’s victory more emphatic.

Oughtibridge WM grabbed their first win of the season with a narrow 2-1 victory at Handsworth Pub. Chances were rare in an even first half, but after the break it was Oughtibridge that grabbed the lead when full back Harley Scholey set up Adam Thomas for a smart finish. Handsworth began to get back into the game and levelled when Harry Johnson beat the offside trap to cross for Callum Mawbey to score. Oughtibridge got back on top after that and after a number of close calls, Matt Harrison set up Scholey to slam them back in front. Handsworth almost levelled a second timewhen a cross just beat Jahvan Sherratt and Oughtibridge held on for that first win.

22 SEPT - DIVISION 2 - Nothing Shakey about Russ's men - Russ Thompson's Shakey went top of Division Two for the first time as a Billy Hilbert double helped them to a 5-1 victory at Killamarsh Juniors in Division Two's only game. Steven Dickinson, Lewis Armstrong and Cory Mann netted Shakey’s others, whilst Liam Barley netted a deserved consolation for Killamarsh.

16 SEPT - SUNDAY SENIOR CUP - Pheasant hope to shed Three Feathers - The draw for Round 2 of the Senior Sunday Cup has thrown up a real giant of a game with League Champions Wadsley Bridge Pheasant travelling to Rotherham Sunday League's Three Feathers and Norton Sportsman's reward for their victory over Royal Earl also sees the face Rotherham opponents when they travel to MonkWood. It has also thrown up an all-Blades Super Draw tie with Stannington Village playing host to Wickersley Youth Old Village and there could be another as Redmires will entertain Killamarshh Juniors if Redmires win this coming weekend's tie against Sheffield Legends. Crookes are rewarded with a home tie against The Cottage. The full draw involving our teams is: AFC Three Feathers v WB Pheasant Crookes FC v The Cottage; MonkWood v Norton Sportsman; Redmires or Sheffield Legends v Killamarsh Juniors; Stannington Village v Wickersley Youth OV. All fixtures currently due to be played on Sunday 13 October.

15 SEPT - SUNDAY SENIOR CUP - Archer hits gold to topple Earl and there is no stopping Crookes at Terminus - After losing in the Sunday Junior Cup Final last season, Crookes look to be on their way to going one better in the Sunday Senior Cup by putting out last season's semi-finalists Terminus Tavern 4-2. Crookes took the lead with a Joe Jerrison header and although Terminus fought back to level, Crookes were back in front at the interval thanks to a Matt Roney strike. Terminus levelled a second time with a penalty, but Crookes soon restored their lead with a Pete Smith header and after withstanding pressure from their hosts, Crookes secured their place in Round 2 with a 93rd minute Tom Staniland goal.

James Archer (left) netted twice as Norton Sportsman knocked fellow Blades Super Draw CBC Premier side Royal Earl out 5-3. Montelle Kamara smashed Norton into the lead midway through the first half and after having another ruled out, they did grab a second when Danny Rogers pressured the Earl defender into a mistake and prodded home. Mike Towey pulled one back for Earl before the break, but after it Rogers was brought down in the area and Archer netted from the spot. Another penalty allowed Connor Chapell to pull a second back, but Archer struck again to give Norton breathing space. Earl kept coming though and Chapell netted a second penalty as the game went into added time, but it was Norton that had the final say as Antony Holmes slotted home after being played in by Kamara.

Another all-Blades Super Draw tie saw Ash Simpson net twice as Wadsley Bridge Pheasant comprehensively won at Woodseats Club. Carl Andrews got the ball rolling for Pheasant with a fine free kick before Andy Dawson’s shot deceived the keeper for their second. After the break, Pheasant continued to dominate and increased their lead with a fine team goal and great finish by Ash Simpson, before Luke Fletcher marked his debut with two goals to seal a 5-0 win.

15 SEPT - CBC PREMIER - Stannington break Handsworth's grip on them - The only CBC Premier game played saw Stannington Village beat Handsworth Pub 4-1 - their first home victory over their visitors in four seasons. Stannington took the lead when a deep inviting cross from Jimmy Middleton allowed Lewis Dickinson to finish well at the far post, but Handsworth were make the home side work hard and levelled in the second half through their man of the match Jas Colliver. Stannington regained the lead when a cross from Lee Johnstone was headed home by Dickinson and from a Dickinson free kick debutant Josh Allison added a third at the back post. The same combination saw Alllison head home to complete the scoring

15 SEPT - DIVISION 1 - Rossiter treble puts Old Boys top, closely followed by Colley -  Intake Old Boys became the early leaders of Division One as a John Rossiter (right) hat-trick helped them maintained their perfect record with a 6-2 home win over Mosborough Whites. Rossiter opened the scoring with a great strike from 25 yards before doubling the lead after when a one on one with the keeper. Kane Fowler reduced the deficit with a header just before half time, but soon after the break Elliot Coles made it 3-1 before Rossiter completed his hat-trick with a tap in. Whites wouldn't lie down and Fowler scored again and it then need several good saves by Intake keeper Steve Booth to stop them getting right back into it. Ten minutes from time Harry Chamberlain eased Intake’s nerves with their fifth, before Louis Axcell hit a 35 yard screamer to complete the scoring.

Colley also have yet to drop a point after their 3-1 win at Cobden View. Ildephonse Hussein gave Colley the lead only to see it cancelled out by a Joe Taylor penalty for handball before half time. After the break, Colley were put under severe pressure when two sin-bins saw them temporarily reduced to nine men, but helped by a keeping master class from James Abramski they held on and took the lead a second time when Matt Jebson broke clear to score. Cobden threw everyone forward, but they were inevitably caught out and Billy Thorley tapped home to secure the win for Colley.

Southey Social also have a 100% record after winning their first game of the season against Chapeltown RBL 2-0. After a fairly even start Southey began to press and were rewarded when a slick passing move saw Ryan Whitney finish at the far post. Southey could have increased the lead but some great goalkeeping by Dan Storrie and the post kept the score down. Chapeltown looked dangerous on the break and the second half saw both teams create chances, but a second didn’t arrive until a quick counter attack saw Jarrod Lomas carry the ball for 30 yards before hitting a superb finish.

Ranch was among the goals again, sharing six with Woodhouse Juniors. Ranch were first to score through a Joe Denby header at the back post, but two Leon Cheslett strikes saw Woodhouse go in front. A mistake by the Woodhouse keeper allowed Jack Williams to equalise before half time, but Woodhouse took the lead again with a Lee Williams strike. Ranch did get some reward this time though when Denby netted his second to equalise. .

15 SEPT - DIVISION 2 - Beever eager to put Eckington on top and Sam's the man for Phoenix - B

Ben Beever netted twice as Eckington kept top spot in Division Two with a 6-2 victory over fellow new boys Killamarsh Juniors. A lively start to the game from Eckington saw them have all the possession and they took the lead with a great strike from Alister Haydock into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. A second quickly followed as Beever calmly slotted home after a ball over the top, but Killamarsh started to grow into the game & right on half time Liam Barley found space at the back post to reduce the arrears.

That seemed to kick-start Eckington goals from Liam Foulstone and Daniel Biggin straight after the break put them in command. Killamarsh responded by hitting the bar, but a ball from the right allowed Joel Cousins to head Eckingtons fifth (second picture below). Beever then converted a penalty after Alister Haydock had been brought down in the box (third picture below, but the final goal came from Killamarsh’s Ryan Foster with a neat finish into the bottom corner. Action from the game is below.

Shakey are second after an impressive 2-1 victory at Nether Green. Steve Dickinson and Billy Hilbert gave Shakey a two goal lead at half-time, but a Tom Davis goal for Green gave them some nervous moments and they almost equalised with the last kick of the game, but the ball rebounded off the bar.

Sam Firth hit a hat-trick to help Brinsworth Phoenix collect their first three points with an 8-2 victory over Beighton Magpies. Mark Thornton set Phoenix on their way and although Danny King equalised for Magpies with a well worked free-kick, Phoenix led at the break after a second from Thornton. The second half saw Beighton level a second time when Lewis Hunt finished a sweeping move, but their joy was short-lived as Firth grabbed three quick goals to put Phoenix in command. Danny Commander added two more, before Jack Hawkes completed the scoring with a chip over the keeper.

Two late Jono Cooper strikes gave New Bohemians a 3-2 victory at Wadsley Jack Athletic. Wadsley looked certain to take the points when they went into the last ten minutes two up thanks to Leon Dearns and Brad Worsfold strikes, but Tom Burbeary pulled one back for the visitors before the two late Cooper goals turned the result on its head.

A Josh Smith (left) first half double proved enough for Mosborough Reds to overcome Darfield United 2-1. Both Smith’s strikes came from quick breaks to give Mosborough a deserved half time lead. Darfield grew into game after tactical change and hit the crossbar in last min of the first half. Darfield’s improvement continued after the break and they were rewarded when Edward Agnew pulled a goal back with a neat chip, but Reds held out for their first win of the season. Action from the game is below.

A James Waite double put Prince of Wales in a twirl and give Cadbury their first points of the season with a 4-2 victory. Benji Holmes and Waite’s double gave Cadbury a three goal lead, but a penalty for handball allowed Charlie Hawkins to pull one back for Prince. That gave the impetus to Prince and they pulled a second back when Tom Furniss cut the ball back for Liam South to put it over the keeper 3-2, but they were caught on the counter attack and Josh Grant completed the scoring with Cadbury’s fourth.

9 SEPT - TWENTYTWO CUP - Round 2 draw sees Pheasant drawn at Stannington - The League Twentytwo Cup Round 2 draw was made by journalists James Shields and Richard Sutcliffe in Sheffield United's new Media suite and the only all-CBC Premier tie is gigantic, with reigning League Champions Wadsley Bridge Pheasant travelling to multiple champions Stannington Village. Elesewhere, holders Royal Earl have been drawn away at Division One Woodhouse Juniors and previous winners Handsworth Pub also travel to a Division One side in Cobden View.

The full draw is: Colley v Cadbury; Chapeltown RBL v Shakey; Civil Sports v Boynton Sports; Cobden View v Handsworth Pub; Cotts FC v Sheffield Sixs; Darfield United v Wickersley Youth OV; Killamarsh Juniors v Southey Social; Mosborough Reds v Norton Oaks; Norton Sportsman v Wadsley Jack Ath; Oughtibridge WM v Eckington BFC; Prince of Wales v Crookes FC; Ranch v Mosborough Whites; Redmires v Nether Green; Stannington Village v WB Pheasant; Woodhouse JFC v Royal Earl; Woodseats Club v Intake Old Boys. All ties to be played on Sunday 6 October.

8 SEPT - CBC PREMIER - New boys all start with wins - The three clubs promoted to the CBC Premier all scored impressive wins on their CBC Premier Division debut. Last season’s Division One champions, Royal Earl, made the biggest impact with a 6-1 victory at Handsworth Pub. Most of the damage was done by Mike Towey and Alex Rippon with two goals each, with their others coming from Steve Brammer and Sam Smith. An understrength Handsworth battled away and netted through Ben Shackshaft, but they had their keeper to thank for keeping the score down.

Crookes also won on their CBC Premier start, but they had to come from two down at Woodseats Club before securing a 5-3 victory. Two Lewis Whitaker goals in the first 20 minutes gave Woodseats their lead, but Matt Cowen (right) finished off a cross from Danny Flynn and Joe Jerrison did the same to a Pete Smith cross to bring Crookes level. A quick breakaway saw Smith then head down for Joel Purkiss to produce a cute finish to put Crookes ahead, but Whitaker completed his hat trick with a low finish before half-time to send the teams in level at the break. Straight after the break, Cowen headed home his second and just two minutes later a poor throw by the keeper saw Cowen complete his hat-trick and the scoring.

Cotts also took maximum points from their first ever top flight game, winning a real thriller 4-3 at home to Oughtibridge WM. Cotts opened the scoring when Jon Dolan finished off a move of five one touch passes, but Tom Galloway headed the visitors level. Dolan headed his second to put Cotts back in front and soon after, Oughtibridge wasted a great chance to level when Olly Black missed a penalty. They did level on the stroke of half time though with an Adam Thomas volley, but they fell behind again in the second half when Mike Blythen got in front of his defender to volley home. Blythen then netted his second with a flick over the keeper and although Callum Chambers pulled one back near the end, Cotts held on.

Champions Wadsley Bridge Pheasant was another team to come from two down before winning 3-2 at Wickersley Youth. It was slightly against the run of play when nice work by Jordan Thomas in the corner gave Ross Johnson the chance to beat the keeper from the edge of the area and put Wickersley ahead. The second half started much the same with Kris Lee-Green hitting a rocket from 30 yards to double Wickersley’s lead, but, within 30 seconds, man of the match Adam Todd (left) pulled one back on his debut. Kane Doughty then levelled, but only the woodwork stops Pheasant going behind again. Pheasant completed the turn round when Jordan Livett turned on the edge of area before finding the bottom corner.

Last season’s runners-up Redmires will be hoping to go one better this time and a 2-1 win at Norton Sportsman was a good start. Leading scorer Tom Whiting gave Redmires the lead, and although Brad Bowland scored from the penalty spot when Connor Pryde was brought down in the area to bring Sportsman level, Whiting struck again just before half time with what turned out to be the winner.

8 SEPT - DIVISION 1 - A mixed bag for the promoted clubs - There was a mixed bag of results for the newly promoted sides in Division One with two wins and two defeats. Last season's Division Two champions Boynton Sports came a cropper, 2-0 at a Chapeltown RBL rebuilding after relegation from the CBC Premier. RBL took the lead from the penalty spot when the on rushing keeper wiped out Ben Stringer and Elliott Rogan confidently stroked the penalty home. Boynton then had a penalty of their own, but RBL player/manager Joe Hindmarch made a fantastic save to his right to push the ball over the bar (pictured right). Early in the second half RBL scored their second and decisive goal when a cross cum shot was turned in by the alert Lewis Fletcher, and although Boynton turned the screw, the RBL defence held firm.

The team that was runners-up to Boynton, Sheffield Sixs also drew a blank, losing 3-0 to the team that was promoted in third place, Mosborough Whites. After Sixs had a goal disallowed, Whites took the points with strikes from Luke Walker, Jordan Meadows and Chris Howard.

The other promoted club to win was Colley as they came from behind with two late goals to beat local rivals Civil Sports 4-3. It was against the run of play when Colley took the lead through Christopher Onjia and they doubled their lead when Matt Jebson nicked another before half time. Civil came out of the blocks quickly after the break and pulled one back when Wes Bamford lobbed the keeper, before Tom Bamford levelled from the penalty spot. Shane McKay then put Civil ahead, but they then seemed to sit back and allow Colley back into the game, so it was no surprise when Ian Sharland planted a free kick into the bottom corner to bring Colley level. Deep into injury time the Civil keeper rolled the ball out to Colley’s Ildephonse Hussain who stroked the ball into an empty net to spark mass celebrations for the home side.

Another relegated club to get off to a good start was Intake Old Boys as two Mark West (left) goals helped them to a 3-1 victory at Norton Oaks. After Lewis Trevett had headed Oaks in front, a mistake allowed West to fire home the equaliser. West netted his second ten minutes into the second half, before an own goal sealed the points for Intake. Not much has changed at Ranch - after all their home games last season produced 7 goals per game, their first this season saw eight goals, but it was visitors Cobden View that won 5-3 to go home with the points. Two Ben Bell goals put Cobden in charge and even though Jay Lindsay pulled one back for Ranch, Sam Porter restored Cobden’s two goal lead before the break. Alex Pursehouse and Tim Pitt added two more for Cobden before Matt Jacobs and Tom Burns made the scoreline more respectable for Ranch.

8 SEPT - DIVISION 2 - Cousins treble too much for Prince - Two of the clubs new to the League got off to good starts in Division Two. A Joel Cousins (right) hat-trick helped an impressive Eckington Boys to a 6-1 victory at Prince of Wales. Eckington’s others came from Ben Beever, Tom Pickering and an own goal, whilst Prince’s consolation came from Tom Furniss.

The other new club off to a winning start was Killamarsh Juniors who beat Mosborough Reds 3-2. A David Singh free kick put Killamarsh ahead and a quick break by Adam Tunnard saw him lob the keeper to double their lead. Jake Leonard’s free kick beat everyone to pull one back for Reds, but a mistake by the Reds keeper allowed Alex Platton to restore Killamarsh’s two goal lead. A second Leonard free kick found the net with the help of a deflection by a defender to pull Reds back into it again and they should have levelled before the break, but missed an open goal. Reds pressed for an equaliser in the second half, but missed chance after chance and had one ruled out for offside.

Shakey were anything but that as a Cory Mann double and Steven Dickinson and Lewis Armstrong strikes helped them get off to a winning start 4-1 at Cadbury. Josh Grant pulled one back for Cadbury, and they had a better second half, but the Shakey defence held firm.

8 SEPT - LEAUE KITLOCKER CUP - Green too much for Bohemians and wins for Darfield and Wadsley Jack - Two clubs new to the League met in Round 1 of the League Twentytwo Cup and, with the help of a Tom Davis double it was Nether Green that went through, 5-1 at New Bohemians. Jack Hollis-Smith, Brad Smith and Luke Baldrey netted Green’s others with Tom Burbeary scoring for Bohemians with a bullet header.

Jordan Beardsley also scored twice as another new team, Darfield United, went through with a 3-1 home win over Brinsworth Phoenix. Elliott Phelan scored in between Beardley’s two to put Darfield three up and Phoenix missed a chance to get back into the game when they missed from the penalty spot just before half time. Phoenix did pull one back through Mark Thornton in the second half, but never really threatened to get back into it.

The other Twentytwo Cup tie saw Wadsley Jack Athletic go through 4-1 at Beighton Magpies. Lewis Smith with two, Kurtis Westerman and Jacob Walkland with one each netted for Wadsley, whilst Lewis Hunt scored for Beighton.

1 SEPT - Archer hits the target to leave the season opener ends all square - There was just one game to kick-off the League programme and the large crowd were treated to a top quality game that saw Oughtibridge WM and Norton Sportsman share four goals. First blood went to Oughtibridge as Charles Tunnard netted the League’s first goal of the season when he caught everyone by surprise with a terrific opportunists strike from 25 yards. Sportsman fought back though and got a deserved equaliser when Brad Bowland tapped home a Callum Firth Cross.

Oughtiibridge almost regained the lead when Adam Thomas crashed a free kick against the bar, but the ball was cleared and the teams went into the break level. The second half did see Oughtibridge go back in front when Wilson Coupe played Kurt Turner through and he produced a cool finish. Sportsman weren’t behind for long though and levelled when James Archer found enough space to get his shot in and although the keeper kept it out, Archer quickly followed up to nod the ball home.

Sportsman got on top for a while and the Oughtibridge keeper had to be at his best to stop them going in front, but the best chance fell Oughtibridge’s way with just five minutes remaining when Tunnard was given the opportunity to score his second, but it was kept out by Sportsman keeper Kallum Rogers and the game, superbly refereed by John Reeves, finished 2-2

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
