5 JUNE - Five new clubs set to join the League & League Constitution for 2019-20 - After the League held interviews with applicants, subject to ratification by member clubs at the AGM on 17 June, five new clubs were successful. Three of them have come from the Meadowhall Under 21 - champions, New Bohemians, runners-up Nether Green and fourth place Eckington BFC. The fourth, playing at the Dorothy Hyman Stadium, is Barnsley & District Division Two champions Darfield Queen Victoria, whilst the fifth sees the return of a Killamarsh Juniors team. Again, subject to taification by member clubs, to accomodate the new clubs there are a few changes to the constitution for the 2019-20 season from what may have been expected at the end of the last season. Forum FC has folded, with many of the players joining forces with Handsworth Inn (Old Crown last season). This will mean that Cotts FC will join Royal Earl and Crookes in the CBC Premier to keep that Division at 11 teams. To take Division One up to 12 teams, Norton Oaks will not be relegated, and as well as Boynton Sports, Sheffield Sixs and Mosborough Whites, Colley and Woodhouse JFC will also be promorted from Division Two. There will also be 12 teams in Division Two. The constitution could change if there are any further withdrawals by member clubs, but none are expected. Current known details of all clubs for the 2019-20 season are now shown in the Clubs section. All clubs MUST check their details and email keithsssl@aol.com to either confirm their details are correct, or provide any necessary amendments. This should be done no later that Friday 14 June.
For the second season in succession, Redmires' Tom Whiting (1st right) was the CBC Premier Leading scorer, with his 22 goals being 9 clear of his nearest rival, Liam Bryan of Woodseats Club, and helping Redmires to their third Runners-Up spot in five seasons. Division One was much tighter with Crookes' Liam Cartledge's hat-trick in their last league game of the season taking his tally to 20, to pip his team mate Matt Cowen and Cotts FC's Michael Blythen who both finished on 19. It's the second successive season that Cartledge (far right) has received a Leading Scorer Award as he was Division Two's top scorer the previous season.
The second half started much like the first, with Crookes having plenty of the ball, but Schoolboys looking more likely to score on the break, so it was no surprise when Jake Holdsworth added a third for Schoolboys. The Schoolboys defence, with keeper Joe Simpson and centre back Josh Gillies outstanding, kept Crookes at bay and another quick break should have seen Adrian Parker put the game beyond Crookes when he was clean through, one-on-one with the keeper, but he put his shot wide. Crookes skipper Pete Smith then produced a terrific header off the line to keep his side in the game as Schoolboy looked to make the tie safe. Crookes pressed to get back into it and after a couple of penalty shouts were turned down, they finally succeeded. With just seven minutes remaining sub defender Tom Islip got on the end of a loose ball from a corner to slam the ball home. Crookes pressed even harder after that, but couldn't find a way through and Schoolboys were able to celebrate being the first Doncaster side to win the trophy.

Earl played their way into the game and when a chance came their way they
made the most of it. A fine through ball from Mike Towey found Steve
Brammer and as keeper Jamie Smith came out to him he calmly slotted it
past him to open the scoring. Earl then had the impetus and scored another
before half time with Brammer returned the favour for Mike Towey to double
their lead.
Earl started the second half well and should have gone further ahead when
Steve Brammer blasted against the bar with only the keeper to beat and
just after Mike Towey failed to take another great chance. Forum tried to
get back into the game, but the Earl defence held firm and Forum couldn't
trouble 18 year old Earl keeper Callum Fielding.
Earl were always a threat on the break and Alex Rippon added their third
from close range with another assist from the Sheffield Trophy Centre Man
of the Match Brammer. Wing back Richard Tootle then got in the act when he
got on the end of the move of the game, before substitute Sam Smith scored
a fifth with another fine finish. It was a deserved win as Earl had not
beaten Forum since joining the league and although Forum played their part
in an entertaining game, this time Earl's finishing was the difference
between the two sides.

They looked certain to double it at the start of the second half when Flynn set up Charlie Hobson, but he missed from six yards and from that point it was Handsworth that took charge. Veteran Russ Hobson (right) grabbed their equaliser and with Stannington going all out for the winner they needed, they were caught out by a quick break that was finished off by Tyrone Wilson. Stannington continued to press without causing too many concerns for the Crown defence and the win for Crown was assured in the final minute when they were awarded a penalty, confidently tucked away by their leading scorer Liam Greenfield.
Civil keeper Scott Paynter then made the save of the game to stop Earl going back in front, but after that it was Civil that looked the more likely to get a winner. Earl held on though to pip their League Twentytwo Cup Final opponents Forum to the title on goal difference. Pictured right is Earl skipper Callum Westney receiving the trophy from Paul of the Spartans. Pictured left is the Royal Earl team with the trophy and below is action from the game.
21 APR - DIVISION 2 - Boynton celebrate, whilst Shakey climb out of the bottom three - New champions Boynton Sports celebrated taking the title with their 18th win of the season 7-0 at home against bottom club Cadbury. Marcus Gordon took just two minutes to open the scoring when he connected with a Ross Thompson cross. Within ten minutes a solo goal by Lee Jordan made it two, before a sweeping long ball from David Nash was finished off by Oliver Mathewson for the third. Marc Peacock hammered home number four from all of 40 yards, before a deft pass from Marcus Gordon set up Ross Thompson for the fifth. Gordon was again the provider for Jordan to score his second to make it 6-0 by half time. Understandably, Boynton eased off in the second half, but Peacock completed the scoring with a close range. It was a fitting end for both Josh Jones and David Nash who played their final games before retirement. Shakey's last game of the season saw them miss the chance to climb out of the bottom three when they suffered a 4-0 home defeat by a Woodhouse Juniors that will now finish in their highest ever fifth position in Division Two. It took just ten minutes for Leon Cheslett to get things going when he took advantage of a defensive mix-up to round the keeper and score. Jack Maples quickly doubled the lead with a curling effort into the top corner from just inside the box. Matthew Cooper added a third before half time with a thunderous strike into the top corner from the edge of the area. Cheslett completed the scoring midway through the second half with a deft finish that wrong footed the keeper. |

APR - CBC PREMIER -
Gibbons
treble as Sportsman win to finish fifth, whilst Intake sign out with
defeat -
Norton Sportsman won 4-2 at Handsworth Old
Crown with the help of a Michael Gibbons hat-trick to finish a very
creditable fifth in their first season in the top flight.
Sportsman made a slow start and went a goal down early on to a Sam Marsden
strike. Sportsman equalised midway through first half when Michael Gibbons
crossed for Danny Rogers to slam home, but conceded again when some sloppy
defending allowed Russel Hobson to put Handsworth back in front before
half time.
Midway through second half Sportsman’s greater fitness began to tell and
three goals in ten minutes turned the game their way. First it was good
work by James Archer when his pass found Michael Gibbons just inside the
box and he curled a shot into the bottom corner. Gibbons second came when
Chris Lewis, playing as a makeshift centre forward, crossed and Gibbons
forced the ball home from close range with the help of a deflection off a
defender on the way in. Gibbons then completed his hat-trick with the best
goal of the game, playing a neat one-two with Archer before volleying home
through the keepers legs. Handsworth didn’t give up though and only a
terrific tip over the bar from Sportsman keeper Jack Mitchell stopped them
reducing the arrears.
Already relegated Intake Old Boys signed
out of the CBC Premier with a 4-1 home defeat by Oughtibridge WM. It
started well for Intake with a Connor Schofield cross allowing Elliott
Coles to give them the lead. Both sides were then reduced to ten men after
an altercation between two players and it seemed to affect Intake the most
and their visitors. Oughtibridge levelled when
Kurt Turner played a lovely through ball for Matt Harrison to score and
ten minutes before break Wilson Coupe played a great cross field pass to
Adam Thomas and he smashed Oughtibridge into the lead. Intake took risks
in the second half, but it backfired as Oughtibridge twice picked them off
with quick breaks. Coupe added Oughtibridge’s third, before Harrison
smashed home his second on the volley from Chas Tunnard cross to complete
the scoring.
Cobden View made fifth place theirs when they came from behind to gain a
5-2 victory at Mosborough Reds. Reds took the lead when they were awarded
a penalty and it was confidently put away by Jake Leonard, but an own goal
by Reds skipper Jak Hotchin levelled things up. Sandile Somhedlwana then
scored his first ever goal for Cpbden after four years of trying, but Reds
soon levelled when Hotchin scored at the right end with a bullet header.
They weren’t level for lomng though as Tim Pitt put the visitors back in
front before half time. Callum McCrury and Sam Porter added two more in
the second half to make sure Cobden gained their highest ever finish.
Civil Sports A warmed up for next weekend’s clash with Royal Earl with a
5-1 victory over Norton Oaks B – Civil’s fourth win out of five. Tom
Bamford soon had Civil two up, but Oaks pulled one back before half time
when they were awarded a penalty and Jack Peake scored from the spot.
There was no stopping Civil in the second half though and Steven Thompson,
Was Bamford and Tapiwanashe Nyasvimbo all found the net.
With their man of the match, pocket rocket, Ben Jordan, running things, the second half saw Boynton take command and they increased their lead when they were awarded a penalty for handball. Simon Marsden saw his spot kick saved, but followed it up to smash home the rebound. Veteran substitute Ricardo Stewart then turned back the years to sprint clear and place a cool finish into the corner to send the Boynton sideline into raptures and secure the league title - they are pictured left with the trophy. Sixs had to console themselves with the runners-up spot and are pictured right receiving their medals and trophy.
The third promotion place went to
Mosborough Whites despite them slipping to a rare defeat at next to bottom
Shakey. Steve Dickinson hit both goals for Shakey, whilst Whites sole
reply came from Morgan Foy.
Jack Hawkes grabbed a second half hat-trick as Brinsworth Phoenix
completed their season with an emphatic 7-2 victory over bottom club
Cadburys. Pheonix got off to a flying start when Mr Utility man Joe
Stratham lobbed the keeper from the angle of the box to put them ahead
after just five minutes and Brad Beedham doubled it with a left foot
volley from a Brad Hardy corner. Jamie Angus pulled one back for Cadburys
before the break, but the second half saw Hawkes restore Phoenix’s two
goal lead and set up by Karl Fox and Curtis Gregory, he quickly added two
more to take his League tally to 16. Angus pulled a second back for
Cadbury and they might have been right back in the game had they not seen
a penalty brilliantly saved - Cadburys third consecutive penalty miss. To
add to Cadburys woes, Stratham hit Phoenix’s sixth before Nathan Darwent
scored his side’s seventh with a cheeky chip over the onrushing keeper.

When Pheasant did get their noses in front
in the second half it was with the help of an error by the Wickersley
keeper which Livett pounced upon to give Pheasant the lead. There was no
luck about his second though when referee Gareth Thomas pointed to the
spot after Lewis Fothergill had been brought down in the area and Livett
stepped up to thump the ball home to double Pheasant’s lead. Wickersley
didn’t give up though and pressed to get back into the game, but when Adam
Askwith made it three with a fine solo run and finish, the title
celebrations for Pheasant began.
The race for the Runners-up spot continues
with current second place Redmires beating Handsworth Old Crown 7-1 with
the help of a Danny Reet (right) hat-trick and two from the CBC Premier’s
leading scorer Tom Whiting. Handsworth only had a bare eleven for the
game, including manager Lee Machin as stand-in keeper, so it was no
surprise that Redmires proved much too strong for them. Redmires other
scorers were Jon Wall and Conal Jacklin, whilst Handsworth’s consolation
came from Luke Fletcher.
After the break it was Norton that looked
the more likely to score and they were finally rewarded when another
Archer header looked goal bound and Callum Frith made sure by tapping the
ball home. Stannington responded and repeatedly pushed the Norton defence
backwards and they almost won it when Green hit a post from a Lewis
Dickinson corner, but Norton held on. That draw means that in order for
Stannington to pip Redmires to the Runners-up spot they must win their
final game of the season at home to Handsworth Old Crown in two weeks
time.

APR - DIVISION 1 -
Earl go top and Crookes as good as confirm promotion -
Jonathan Williams netted a hat-trick as Royal Earl defeated Cobden View
6-0 to go top of Division One on goal difference. Earl started the game
without six regulars, but it didn’t seem to affect them and they took the
lead in the first half when a Williams free kick took a deflection past
the stranded keeper. They doubled their lead just before half time when a
corner led to Olly Beaumont finding the net. After the break, Cobden tried
their best to get back into the game, but as it became more stretched it
allowed Earl more space and Steve Brammer added their third with a long
range effort. Williams then completed his hat-trick with two more, before
Richard Tootle completed the scoring. Because Earl's goal difference is so
superior over second place Forum, victory for Earl in their final game of
the season in two weeks time will see Earl take the title.
Earl will be joined in the top flight next season by old rivals Crookes
who, barring a mathematical miracle, made certain of third place with a
6-0 victory over the already relegated Norton Oaks B. After Norton gifted
Crookes the lead with an own goal Joel Purkiss doubled it before half
time. After the break, Purkiss netted his second, before club captain Pete
Smith netted their fourth. Paul Clements made it five before Purkiss
completed his hat-trick five minutes from time.
After the break, Thompson added his second but Boynton got a bit sloppy
after that and gave the ball away too many times for manager
Mark Higginbottom’s liking. Cadbury deservedly managed to pull one goal back when
James Waite scored the goal of the game with a tremendous strike into the
bottom corner from distance.
Woodhouse Juniors looked to be on their way to a self-inflicted defeat at home to Shakey, who led 3-1 with just ten minutes remaining thanks to two own goals and a Wes Fidler strike, but two Lee Williams strikes and one from Alex Philpott gave Woodhouse a 3-3 draw. 1 APRIL - Norton Oaks A resigned - The League was sorry to receive the resignation of Division 1 Norton Oaks A. Because they had already played 75% of their League games this season it means their opponents for their two remaining games - Mosborough Reds and Civil Sports A will be awarded 3-0 victories. PS - this is NOT an April Fool's joke. |
