27 JAN - CBC PREMIER - Pheasant fly to the top again, but Stannington bend to Youth - With Redmires not in action, Wadsley Bridge Pheasant went back to the top of the CBC Premier Division with a 5-2 victory over Renishaw Rangers. Lewis Twibell opened the scoring before Luke Beedham netted his first of the game to put the home side two goals ahead at half time. Further goals from Joe Slater and Beedham again extended it to four before James Savage reduced the arrears with a long range free-kick. Skipper Andy Dawson got in on the act with Pheasant’s fifth but Renishaw had the last say with a superb twenty-yard volley from left back Ryan Hancock.
Still on the fringes of the title race are David Hudson’s Oughtibridge WM
as they saw off bottom placed Chapeltown RBL 4-0 at the War Memorial
Ground. Chas Tunnard, one a penalty, and Matt Harrison both netted
braces against a Legion side that are now an astonishing eleven points
away from the safety margin.
That loss saw Intake tumble into the bottom three after Handsworth Old
Crown helped their own relegation battle with a 3-0 home success against
Woodseats Club. Crown opened the scoring when some great work down the
left from Luke Fletcher left Bjorn Taylor with a tap-in. Former Crown
stalwart James Leesley had the best chance for Club to level but he
failed to convert, and two well taken goals in the second half from
Fletcher secured the win; meaning that Danny Leesley would have the
bragging rights over his brother.
27 JAN - DIVISION 2 -
Boynton have a Ball to strengthen their
grip on promotion, but the top two also win - Eddie Parker hit a
double for Division Two leaders Sheffield Sixs as they stayed at the
summit after a 5-2 home win over Brinsworth Phoenix and they are looking
good for promotion at the first attempt. Former Wadsley Bridge Pheasant
striker Danny Barnsley also found the back of the Phoenix net as did
Matt Coyle and Nathan Zielosko whilst Phoenix markers were both from
long range with Curtis Gregory finding the top corner and Liam Jacobi
hitting a free-kick from fully thirty-five yards out.
Woodhouse Juniors are starting to string a good sequence of results
together at the moment, and they are on the fringes of the promotion
race after a 2-1 win at Cadbury. Tom Bland bagged both goals for
Woodhouse whilst Michael Taylor netted for Cadbury who also missed a
penalty and were denied a second one late in the game. An understrength
Beighton Magpies were unseated in their game at Wadsley Horse and Jockey
as the hosts rode away with a 6-2 win. Reece James and Dale Watts both
hit two goals apiece whilst George Scott and Sam Rollitt also netted;
with Stefan Hadfield and a first ever team goal from Luke Sargison being
Magpies’ markers.
Civil Sports B are still awaiting that first win of the season as they
were defeated 5-1 at Shakey. Billy Hilbert starred with a treble for the
home side whilst Armstrong and Wes Fidler completed a nap hand against a
Civil side whose only solace came from an improved second half and a Ben
Firth strike. 23 JAN - Fixtures and Referees for FEBRUARY 2019 now added - The Fixtures and Referees for FEBRUARY 2019 have now been added to the website. Home clubs should contact their opponents and Referees where shown ASAP. |
Closing in on both Pheasant and Redmires are defending champions
Stannington Village as they came from behind to record a 4-1 win at
Woodseats Club. Nick Owen gave Club the early advantage when he flicked
home a long throw but this seemed to galvanise Village as Piers Bond,
Dean Jepson and Lewis Dickinson all forced good saves from the home
custodian. The equaliser did eventually come when Dan Green headed
Dickinson’s corner at the far post and Dickinson was again the provider
for goal number two; another corner and this time Bond headed in. A
route one goal produced number three, a long goal kick from Callum Lee
being flicked onto Shaun Flynn who smashed the ball home and the win was
secured in the dying embers of the game when a fast break saw Jimmy
Middleton’s cross end up in the net via a Club defender.
Renishaw Rangers gave their own relegation escape bid a major boost when
they overturned a deficit to record a 2-1 win against Intake Old Boys in
the CBC Premier’s final game. Joe Turner gave Intake the lead midway
through the first half when he was first onto a through ball, and then
chipped the home keeper from distance. The game had just ten minutes
left to play when Renishaw levelled matters, top scorer Robin Holmes
taking advantage a poor Intake defensive clearance to fire home into the
far corner and then five minutes later, Renishaw grabbed the winner when
more defensive frailties from Intake saw Ricky Lacey-Hatton land the
knockout punch with a shot from the edge of the box.
Second place Crookes lost ground after a 1-1 draw with Southey Social.
Ryan Damms broke the Crookes offside trap to put the home team ahead but
that seemed to act as a catalyst for the visitors as they pushed for a
leveller. Some stoic defending and a brilliant save from Southey keeper
Nathan Stovold seemed to have held Crookes away until Daniel Flynn broke
their resistance. Both teams went for a winner after that but ended up
with a point apiece in a game referee Craig Grundy described as “a
fantastic game of football”.
Cotts are now level on points with Crookes after a 4-2 home success over
a Civil Sports A side now in the bottom three. Michael Blythen led the
way for the winners with a hat-trick whilst Jon Dolan also found the
net, Civil’s efforts in a close game coming from Zak Fleming-Wright and
Andrzej Gordon-Hides.
On the fringes of the promotion spots are Royal Earl as they went into
seventh heaven with a 7-0 away success at Mosborough Reds. Alex Rippon
grabbed a treble and Mike Towey bagged a double as Earl moved within
four points of third with games in hand. Olly Beaumont and Richard
Tootle also found the net with four of the seven coming in seven crazy
minutes as the game entered its final stages. Ranch rounded up visitors
Cobden View 3-1 to rise two places in the league standings thanks to an
Alex Cowlishaw double and one from Alex Mosley, Will Cutler scoring
Cobden’s sole effort during their best period of the game.
Harry Buxton set the tone with a goal after just twenty seconds and
Barnsley hit his first just two minutes later. Barnsley netted his
second from the penalty spot before half time and completed his
hat-trick after the break. Jacob Beech provided consolation for Cadbury
with a penalty of their own and they can take some comfort that they
made the leaders work hard after such a disasterous start.
Mosborough Whites stayed in contention with a win by the odd goal in
five at Beighton Magpies. Julian Lawrence scored twice for the Whites
whilst Levi Williamson added the other against a Magpies side that were
always in the game and netted through a Lee Hackett wonder strike and
Dale Featherstone whose late second had Whites hanging on for the
points.

13 JAN - TWENTYTWO CUP
-
Sam’s the man as Royal Earl end Boynton's run -
The last of the League Twentytwo Cup cup quarter finals saw Boynton
Sports giantkilling run brought to a shuddering halt, 8-1 by Royal Earl.
Earl had the tie won by the half time mark as they netted through Sam
Smith, Olly Beaumont, Alex Rippon and Jonathan Williams. They added
another four in the second half with Smith completing a hat-trick plus
additional strikes from Mike Towey and Richard Tootle. Boynton were, by
their own admission, never at the races but goalkeeper Adam Martin did
manage to get them on the scoresheet with a wind assisted goal kick. The
result puts Earl into the semi-finals for the first time along with
fellow Division One clubs Forum and Crookes FC, and CBC Premier
Handsworth Old Crown.
Another team waiting for a slip up, but with games in hand, are
defending champions Stannington Village as they dispatched a Renishaw
Rangers side now seven points from the safety margin. Playing with the
wind in that opening half, Stannington took the lead when Lewis
Dickinson’s corner was chested home at the far post by Lee Johnstone and
then Dickinson himself grabbed the second after good play involving
Shaun Flynn and Charlie Hobson. Straight after the interval, Village
added a third when Johnstone crossed and Flynn volleyed in for a
landmark century of goals for the club. The scoring was complete when
Johnstone again turned provided and Dickinson drilled in his second of
the game past Renishaw stand-in keeper and top scorer Robin Holmes.
The last CBC Premier Division game saw a home success as Wickersley
recorded a 4-0 victory against bottom placed Chapeltown RBL. Brad
Carroll had setup Joe McGuinness for the game’s opening goal before
Legion’s task became even harder on the ten minute mark when stalwart
goalkeeper Joe Hindmarch was dismissed for a professional foul as
Carroll broke clear. Ben Thornton and Kris Lee-Green added further first
half goals as the home side made the numerical advantage take effect and
the win was secured when Carroll netted the fourth made one of the many
second half chances count.
Moving into second place are Crookes FC as they leapfrogged previous
incumbents Cotts FC 3-1 as they, like Forum, look for a second
successive promotion. Daniel Flynn scored a brace and Joel Purkiss added
another to give the home side the points; with Jon Dolan scoring Cotts’
sole response. Norton Oaks A edged past a Mosborough Reds side still
looking for their first win of the season, John Rossiter with the sole
strike that divided the sides, whilst Norton Oaks B and Southey Social
were goalless in their game.
Mosborough Whites consolidated their second place with a 6-2 home win
over a Cadbury side who, despite playing their best football for a
while, are slipping away from the promotion race. Luke Walker and Jack
Bennett both scored twice, whilst Chris Calcott and Levi Williamson also
netted. Cadbury’s efforts came from Dan Kelly and Ben Bottomley. With
Boynton in Cup action, Colley could have gone third but they had to
share the spoils with Woodhouse Juniors in a 2-2 draw. Faisal Miladi
gave Colley the lead with a well taken far post finish after a great
team move but Woodhouse levelled with a similar one of their own, Dan
Lockwood converting. Leon Cheslett put the visitors ahead and it looked
like being the winner until Danny Parker smashed in a ferocious effort
five minutes from time that even a Woodhouse defender couldn’t keep out
on the line. Shakey gave Wadsley Horse and Jockey an uncomfortable ride as they recorded a 3-2 success against them. Lewis Smith and Reece James scored for Jockey but they were unseated by efforts from Wesley Fidler, James Marston and game winner Tom Fullelove whilst Shakey custodian Tom Jeffries also saved a Jockey penalty. Civil Sports and Brinsworth Phoenix shared the points and six goals in the division’s final game at Green Lane, Lewis Yates bagging a hat-trick for Civil whilst Daniel Commander, Brad Beedham and Jack Hawkes hit the back of the net for Phoenix. 9 JAN - Woodseats Chantrey set for Radio Sheffield - At the start of 2019, Radio Sheffield launched a new feature on their Football Heaven show which adopts a grassroots team each weekend to be their TEAM OF THE WEEK and this weekend it is our Division Two outfit, Woodseats Chantrey. Radio Sheffield will follow their progress this weekend and afterwards do a live chat on their Football Heaven show. Chantrey's currently injured goalkeeper James Rossey will first be on Football Heaven tomorrow, Thursday, between 6:15 & 6:30 and this will then be followed up with a further interview after the team has played, probably the following Tuesday, 15 Jan. This is an opportunity any club can take advantage of - all you have to do is email footballheaven@bbc.co.uk with details about your team, including a contact phone number, to get involved. |
Oughtibridge WM slipped a place after
losing 3-1 at home to an Intake Old Boys determined to climb away from
the bottom three. Intake’s keeper had had to make good saves to stop
both Ross Brown and Chas Tunnard giving Oughtibridge the lead, but he
could do nothing to stop Matt Harrison from finishing a great solo
effort to give the home side the lead. It was cancelled out before half
time when Mark West fired home after the defence failed to clear. Intake
took the lead when Jamie Roper chested a cross down for West to score
his second. After the Intake keeper made more saves, worse was to come
for the home side when Jonny Roper found the top corner with a 25 yard
free kick to seal the points for the visitors and take them four points
clear of the drop zone.
It's not looking too good for Chapeltown
RBL though as the bottom club lost an early lead and fell to another
heavy defeat, 7-1, by a Handsworth Old Crown that climbed out of the
bottom three. Ryan Robinson and Ash Burbeary combined to set up Ben
Wright to score from 12 yards, but Crown levelled when Ben Shackshaft
bundled home a corner. Luke Fletcher then gave Crown a half time lead
when he scrambled a loose ball home. The second half saw Chapeltown have
a penalty appeal waived away by the referee and with Shane Rollinson
prominent, Crown took control. Liam Greenfield with two, Matt Ellis,
Tyrone Wilson and Bjorn Taylor all found the net.

JAN - DIVISION 1 -
Top four all win, while Ranch make it 18 goals in three games to go
fifth -
Forum maintained their 11 point
lead at the top of Division One with a narrow 2-1 win over Southey
Social. Southey struck first when Ryan Whitney pressured the home keeper
and defender into a mix-up that allowed him to score, and it might have
been worse for the leaders when Southey had a strong penalty appeal
waived away. John Mellor missed a good chance for Southey at the start
of the second half before Forum were relieved a defender only saw yellow
for a challenge on Ryan Damms. Forum managed to level with a James
Pemberton penalty and grabbed a winner when Antony Holmes finished off
their best move of the game.
Second place Cotts FC saw off the challenge of Norton Oaks A with a 4-1
victory that had referee Steve Clarkson waxing lyrical about the best
game he has been involved with this season. Luke Kingswood headed Cotts
in front, only for them to be pegged back before the interval by a Jon
Rossiter strike for the visitors. After the break, Kingswood bundled the
ball home to restore Cotts’ lead and Matt Fells beat the keeper after a
terrific solo run, before Harry Shaw sealed the points with an 18 yard
piledriver.
Third place Crookes kept pace with them when they gained their first
clean sheet of the season and came away from Civil Sports A with a 3-0
victory. Andy Parkin gave Crookes the lead from the edge of the area and
it was doubled from the penalty spot by Liam Cartledge, before Max
Pemberton completed the scoring.
If it’s goals you want, Ranch is the team to watch as their 6-1 victory
over Mosborough Reds meant their last four games have generated an
amazing 39 goals. Liam Price, Harley Wilson, Alex Mosley, Tyrone Gunter,
Josh Naylor and Alex
Cowlishaw did the damage for Ranch and Luke Fogg netted Reds
consolation.
Within five minutes of the interval,
Davies scored twice to complete his hat-trick. Luke Lomas then netted
his first goal for two years, before Barnsley netted his second to
complete the scoring. Shakey had perhaps not deserved such a heavy
defeat, but even a penalty ten minutes from time couldn’t help as it was
saved by Sixs keeper Jack Selby.
Sixs lead at the top was extended as
second place Boynton Sports lost their perfect away record with defeat
at third place Mosborough Whites. Boynton started on the front foot and
despite missing a number of guilt edged chances, including a Marcus
Gordon penalty saved by Whites’ keeper Curt Congreve, they got their
noses in front when a cross by Lee Jordan was headed in by Enos Huly. It
didn’t last long though when Luke Walker took advantage of a mistake at
the back to equalise for Whites. The second half saw Whites take command
and they took the lead when man-of-the-match Levi Williamson was brought
down in the area and Jack Bennett slotted home the penalty. Boynton
rallied and had a number of chances to equalise but it wasn't to be and
Whites held on to go level on points with their visitors
Liam Edge scored twice to help
Beighton Magpies stay in the promotion race with a 3-1 victory over
Brinsworth Phoenix, a result that saw Phoenix slip into the bottom
three. Edge finished off a good move to put Magpies ahead and Dale
Featherstone sprung the offside trap to double it before half time. Edge
hit a real thunderbolt for his second before Joe Statham lobbed the
keeper from 40 yards to score Phoenix’s consolation. Leapfrogging over Phoenix and out of the bottom three was Woodseats Chantrey after four goal Luke Simmonds helped their revival continue with a 5-0 victory over Civil Sports B. It took until the stroke of half time before a Matt Brookfield corner saw Simmonds leap like a salmon to power a header home. Civil stayed in the game until the last quarter of the game when Brad Leather’s lightening run down the right and his curling cross gave Simmonds a simple tap-in. Simmonds made the most of a scramble in the box to complete his hat-trick and his fourth came when Makinson’s through ball was crossed by Brookfield for another tap-in. The scoring was completed two minutes from time when Rhys Oakes dribbled pas three defenders before finding the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
