23 Jan - Fixtures & Referees for February now published - The February fixtures and referees currently allocated to the games are now published in the Fixtures section of the website. All home teams must confirm all the month's games with the referees and opponents immediately.

20 Jan - All games on 20 January postponed - The snow put paid to all of today's games.

13 Jan - CBC PREMIER - Southey's title bid in Ashes - Nick Ash (left) goals at the start and end of the game saw Bulls Head go within a point of the leaders and knock Southey Social off top spot and there are now just five points separating the CBC Premier’s top seven clubs. Ash opened the score with a header over the keeper from a tight angle and the lead was doubled when man of the match Chris Peel held the ball up before laying it off for Alan Mowforth to score from ten yards. It was soon three thanks to a smart finish by Mark Bryant, but Southey pulled one back before half time through John Mellor. Bulls Head were in no mood to let Southey back into the game though and John Kentzer restored Bulls three goal lead before Ash too their tally to five when he flicked home a long throw. Mellor netted a second for Southey, but it wasn’t enough to stop them being displaced from the top.

Stannington Village are back to the top, but only on goal difference after they had come from two down to get a point at Ecclesfield Players Lounge. Danny Turner provided the opening for Joe Knight to head Ecclesfield into the lead and they looked on their way to victory when Dale Hirst fed Craig Senior for him to score. It surely would have been all over had Ryan Keeney’s effort not come back off the bar, but Stannington got back into the game before half time when Bill Green finished off a Lee Johnstone free kick. The second half saw Stannington put the Ecclesfield defence under severe pressure and Matt Clarke headed one off the line, while Turner and Mark Groves were solid as rocks in the centre of the Ecclesfield defence. Stannington did eventually get the equaliser they deserved when the ball broke to Sean Flynn eight yards from goal and he made no mistake.

The Vine went fourth after a Danny Seaman winner at Queens Ground. The games only goal came fifteen minutes from time when Rikki Davidson collected the ball on the half way line before beating to defenders and squaring for Seaman to score. Civil Service put the previous week’s defeat behind them to get a hard earned victory over Stocksbridge Park Steels. Stocksbridge went closest in a goalless first half when Mitchell Savage hit the bar and had Kev Davies’s header cleared off the line, but it was Service that took the lead after the break when Danny Wattam got the final touch to a ball already going in off a defender. Wattam then crossed for Gaz Griffiths to head their second and any thoughts that Steels might get back into the game were dismissed when Carl Whitby saved Adam Todd’s penalty

Mikey Taylor hit another hat-trick as Redmires kept their good run going with victory at Pitsmoor Royal Oak. Pitsmoor’s Gavin Davies had an effort cleared of the line before Taylor opened the scoring after being set up by Dave Knaggs and Taylor doubled the lead before half time when he finished off a four man move. Taylor completed his hat-trick from the edge of the area before Scott Szpajer pulled one back for Pitsmoor, but it was Redmires that completed the scoring with a Jon Wall strike.

DIV 1 - Parks stroll puts Angel back on top - Division One also has new leaders after Old Blue all were held by Handsworth Old Boys and four Matt Parks (right) goals helped Woodhouse Angel to victory at Aston Swallownest. Although it was Ball’s successive clean sheet, they were grateful to keeper Adam Martin as Handsworth put them under the cosh for long spells of the game.

Matt Parks’s first two gave Wooshouse Angel a two goal half time lead at Aston Swallownest and just a minute into the second half Liam Parnell made it three. David Sills pulled one back for the home side, but Parks netted two more to put Angel back on top. The Park look to be Angel’s main title rivals after they maintained their challenge with a narrow win over Colley. Adam Battle opened the scoring midway through the first half and he crossed for Mark Townsend to double the lead, but just a minute later Colley were awarded a penalty and Matt Meaney scored from the spot. The second half saw Colley have plenty of the game, but The Park’s defence held firm for the points.

There was noting narrow about Hemsworth Villa's win over Ranch as Lee Webber (left) grabbed four and Alex Yule three in a 9-0 victory. Louis Boler marked his debut for Villa with the opener and Andy Hibberd netted their other, but it might have been less comfortable had stand-in keeper Karl Scholey not made three excellent saves early in the game. Below is Lee Webber scoring his first left and his fourth right, followed by Andy Hibberd's goal and Alex Yule's second. These are followed by more action from the game.

There was also nine goals in Niagara's victory at Bradwell Skips, with them all coming in the first half.  Simon Staniforth hit two of Niagara’s six, with the others coming from Tom Staniforth, Craig Foster, Mark Oliver and man of the match Oliver Woodhead. Niagara’s stand in keeper Scott Wostenholme also did well, but he was beaten three times by Chris Slack, Luke Johnson and Marlon Catwell.

There was almost as many goals at Hollin Bush, where Oughtibridge Village held on to win 5-3 after a second half fight back by the home side. Ryan Campbell, Tom Fletcher, Strachan Sampson and Justin Westoby gave Oughtibridge a four goal half time lead, but after the break, Bush came roaring back with two from Phil Reynolds either side of a Matt Sykes strike. Bush also had other chances to have levelled or even win it, but Oughtibridge finally made it safe with a Sean Lee goal ten minutes from time.

DIV 2 - Rich streak continues to send Oaks top - Not to be left out, Division Two also has new leaders after James Lawton made one and scored one as Anston Athletic knocked Cobden View off the top with a 4-1 victory over them. Lawton set Gary Sidebottom up for Anston’s opener and Lawton doubled the lead with a solo goal. Skipper Danny Nelson made it three when he hooked the ball over his head past the startled keeper and although Mike Walker briefly put Cobden back into the game, a bizarre own goal ruined any further progress. Anston could even afford Matt Roebuck to miss from the penalty spot late in the game.

On top now is Norton Oaks after Rich Gilham (right) made it seven goals in two weeks with a hat-trick in their victory at Chapeltown RBL. The game started badly for Chapeltown when they lost Callum Milner to a dislocated knee after just twenty four seconds and they were never really in the game. After several early chances, Norton eventually took the lead when Gilham got on the end of a goal kick and calmly slotted in the corner. A short pass from Billy Ireland let Gilham in again and he found the corner once more to make it 2-0 at the break. Gilham was then felled in the box after Andy Dawson put him through and stepped up to smash in the spot-kick and grab a hat-trick. The goalscorer then turned provider when he switched play to Jamie Marshall who struck ferociously into the top corner. Coel Fulton scored the first header of his career from a Steve Reynalds corner to complete the scoring.

All Oaks’ other title rivals let points slip. Loxley looked to be on their way to victory with an own goal and one from Tim Pitt from outside the area, but Brinsworth Whitehill salvaged a share of the spoils with a Liam Favel strike and Ryan Watson's last minute goal. Despite holding a half time lead with an Adam Chambers goal, Fox & Hounds suffered a second successive defeat by Crookes & District as Chris Cottyn scored two penalties. Greg McLennan was brought down for the first of them and the winner came after Lee Wharton was felled in the area.

Phoenix also let a lead slip before drawing at home with Junior Blades. After the Blades’ keeper Dave Marrison had kept the scores level until half time, Dan Commander finally put the home side ahead in the second half, but the Blades came back strongly and after Jake Schofield had crossed for Adam Caywood to equalise, they should have won it had George Rudd not missed two great chances. Miners Arms still think they can get into the promotion mix after their revival continued with a 3-1 win at Sharrow Vale.

Mark Barraclough was on target for a second week running when he curled home the opener and the lead was doubled when Lee Swift was left with the simplest of tasks to finish after a defender was caught in possession. Joe Kangley made it three in the second half before Ben Bowling’s header at the back post pulled one back for the home side.

6 Jan - MACRON CUP - Briddon's got talent to help Angel fly to semis, while Jepson double ends The Park's run - Woodhouse Angel became the second Division One club to reach the Macron Cup semi finals when they came from behind to beat CBC Premier Handsworth Turf. Turf got off to a flying start when Mark Barnsley’s run and cross was finished off by Chisanga Nshindano and they came close to doubling their lead when Ben Shackshaft almost connected with Matt Jackson’s cross. Angel began to get into the game more and when Mark Jones was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area, Gareth Simons scored from the spot.

Division One title favourites Angel began to get on top after that and only some saves by Liam Richardson kept them at bay, but even he couldn’t keep out the winner when sub Kirk Briddon (left) showed his talent with a great strike. Robert Pratt twice went close to grabbing an equaliser for the home side, but Angel held on in a game where referee Craig Grundy received praise from the teams for his handling of the local derbyt.

Last season's finalists The Park couldn't make it a Division One treble as two Dean Jepson goals saw them go out to CBC Premier title favourites Stannington Village. Jepson’s double strike came in the first twenty minutes and they held that lead until The Park’s Dan Robinson pulled one back midway through the second half, but The Park couldn’t force an equaliser and Stannington went through to their eight semi final

CBC PREMIER - Mellor treble see Southey go top - The CBC Premier has new leaders after a John Mellor (right) treble saw Southey Social beat Civil Service to go top. Curtis Gregory’s pass enabled Mellor to give Southey an early lead, but Service soon hit back and they levelled with a Danny Wattam strike and Wattam was on hand again to put them ahead. Service began to dominate and as well as hitting the woodwork four times, some great saves by Southey keeper Matt Hanwell stopped them taking an unassailable lead.

It was a similar story at the start of the second half with the woodwork saving Southey another twice and Hanwell pulling off yet more saves. Hanwell’s work was rewarded when Shane Andrews set Mellor up to hit Southey’s equaliser and after Andy Bath missed a sitter Southey went back in front when Mellor completed his hat-trick after Lee Wilson’s header came back off the bar. Service pushed hard for an equaliser but it was Southey that completed the scoring with a Jamie Roper free kick.

Up to third is Bulls Head after Dave Stacey scored the game’s only goal at Stocksbridge Park Steels. The visitors came closest in the first half when they hit the bar and when Matt Coates had an effort saved. The winner came with just fifteen minutes remaining when Ali Berry’s long throw was flicked on by Lee Smith and man of the match Stacey pounced.

The Vine missed their chance to go third as they were beaten by a Pitsmoor Royal Oak that climbed out of the bottom three. Oak took the lead when Gavin Davis was brought down in the area by Sean Blythe and Stacy Sharif scored from the spot. Davis then threaded a through ball for Stacy to use his pace and double Oak’s lead, but they suffered a blow when skipper Leon Stocks suffered a head injury and a keeper error allowed Danny Seaman to pull one back.

The second half saw The Vine level when Andrew Jenkinson crossed to Seaman who then knocked it back across goal for Dan Bateman to score. Bateman then had one disallowed for offside, but as they went for the winner, Oak keeper Adam Fairbrother intercepted a through ball and his long clearance fell perfectly for Andy Dawson to run onto and hit the winner for Oak.

Redmires also put more distance between themselves and the bottom three as both Jon Wall and Dave Knaggs hit hat-tricks in an 8-1 victory over Queens Ground. Mikey Taylor started off the scoring spree and their other goal was scored by Nick Hickson, while Queens consolation was scored by Gareth Hague.

DIV 1 - Old Blue Ball go top, while Richard returns to give Ranch their first win - Division One also has new leaders in Old Blue Ball after Tom Goodison and Callum Chambers both scored twice in a 7-0 victory over Aston Swallownest. Man of the match Oliver Matthewson set up Goodison for both his goals to give Ball a two goal interval lead. Skipper Reece McAndless was then set up by Sean Frawley to make it three before Chambers persistence twice paid off to hit numbers four and five. Dan Dunkerley then hit the sixth before Christian Rowe completed the scoring in a game that saw referee Steve Wilman receive praise for his handling of the game.

Handsworth Old Boys went third as Chris James scored twice in their 6-1 victory at Niagara. Shane Rollinson and Dalton Kershaw gave Handsworth a two goal half time lead and the game was won soon after half time thanks to two from James. Jon Packman added a fifth before Ben Dronfield pulled one back for the home side, but it was Handsworth that completed the scoring with one from Mario Esposito.

After being injured in a car crash during the summer, Ranch’s Richard Berry (left) had not been able to make an appearance and his side was still looking for its first victory, but his returned to the Ranch line up for the first time this season proved crucial as he scored in the last minute to give his team that first win of the season at home against Hollin Bush. Debutant Clifton Firth crossed for Oliver Whittaker to head Ranch into the lead and they held on to it thanks to a great save by keeper Adam Hadfield. The second half started well for Ranch as Firth doubled their lead, but sub Phil Reynolds pulled one back for Bush and they quickly levelled through Matt Sykes on his debut. It looked as if they would share the points until Berry planted an unstoppable header past the Bush keeper.

After falling behind to a Mark Grayson goal, Ryan Campbell scored a hat-trick as Oughtibridge Village hit back to beat Bradwell Skips 5-2. Tom Fletcher hit Oughtibridge’s equaliser, but he went from hero to zero when he received a red card. It didn’t stop Oughtibridge going ahead though as Campbell hit his first and he hit his second before Strachan Sampson grabbed their fourth Campbell completed his hat-trick while Oliver West struck Bradwells second. Other good news for Oughtibridge was the return of James Baker after a year out due to injury.

DIV 2 - Oaks get Rich streak to close the gap at the top - In Division Two, with leaders Cobden View's game postponed, Norton Oaks closed the gap to two points as Rich Gillam (right) hit four goals in their victory over fellow title changers Loxley. After Gillam had given Oaks the lead, Loxley levelled when Geoff Mayfield flicked on for Anthony Marshall to score, but Gillam struck his second under the Loxley keeper to put his side back in front by half time. Loxley levelled a second time when Chris Whalley and Marshall combined to send full back Dan Smith racing away and his cross was met by John Denton to scramble the ball home. John Rhodes then hit a post and Karl Taylor the bar as Loxley went for the win, but they were caught out by the pace of Gillam and he took advantage to score his third and fourth to give Oaks a 4-2 victory. Action from the game is below:

Brinsworth Whitehill’s promotion bid looked to be going up in smoke when an own goal gave bottom club Sharrow Vale a second half lead, but Brinsworth fought back to take the points with two Adam Robinson goals, although they also needed their keeper to make some saves to hold onto them.

Players Lounge Athletic kept pace with them after they also came from behind to beat Chapeltown RBL. Dave Hattersley gave Chapeltown a first half lead (see 1st picture below), but after the break Danny Clinton set up Danny Parker for the equaliser. Simon Marcus and David Ibbotson combined to set up Alex Evision to put Players Lounge ahead and Clinton sealed their victory when he rounded the keeper before scoring. More action  from the game is below.

Phoenix’s promotion bid suffered a blow when Mark Barraclough scored twice to help Miners Arms to a 5-1 victory and lift Miners out of the bottom three. Dan McLean and Mark Dobbs goals gave Miners a two goal lead by the break and Barraclough’s first an an own goal doubled it before Josh Aston pulled on back for Phoenix. It was to no avail though as Barraclough rounded off the scoring with Miners’ fifth.

Fox & Hounds promotion bid also suffered a blow as Crookes & District ended their three game losing run with their second home win of the season. Chris Cottyn gave Crookes an early boost when he put them ahead after just two minutes and with Ross Carey outstanding they took a grip of the game. Lee Wharton crossed for Danny Hirst to hit Crookes second and Wharton was again the provided for Cottyn to net his second. After the break A Wharton free kick was headed home by Mike Dobson as Crookes scored four against Fox for the third consecutive game. Fox had actually created more chances and had more corners than their hosts, but they couldn’t score until Paul Dawson netted a late consolation.

Always 'one of the boys', his infectious enthusiasm will be missed by his team mates. Good luck Louis - watch out for any predatory Sheilas!
