Fixture changes for 18 Nov -
All clubs should check the fixtures for changes caused by teams that
will definitely be playing Sunday Cup ties that day. There could be
further changes later.
Service are joined in Round Four by Bulls Head after their 4-2 victory at Social Bar. Greg Broomhead’s cultured left foot placement put Bull ahead and their lead was doubled before half time when Alan Mowforth (right) headed home Ali Berry’s long throw. Social Bar pulled one back after the break, but Chris Peel nipped in front of the keeper to restore Bulls two goal lead and Mowforth grabbed his second to make Social Bar’s second goal just a consolation. Despite Kurtis Cockburn’s first goal for Pitsmoor Royal Oak they fell to a narrow defeat at MUSC. JUNIOR SUNDAY CUP - Pedder hits four as Bradwell Skip through, while Loxley shock Manor - John Pedder scored four as Bradwell Skips thrashed Green Dragon 10-3. Along with Pedder’s four, Marlon Catwell scored two and there was one each for Mark Grayson, David Nicholls, James Stone and an own goal as the fire was taken out of the Dragon. Also through is Division Two Loxley after a comfortable 5-0 win over a previously unbeaten Manor Hotel. Karl Taylor set up Anthony Marshall to open the scoring and Marshall then set up Delaney to double Loxley’s lead before half time. After the break, Tim Pitt scored from the penalty spot after Marshall was brought down in the area. With Steve Mayfield solid as a rock at the centre of the Loxley defence, Manor was making no headway and it was no surprise that Mick Smith added a fourth and Delaney a fifth. They are joined in Round 4 by Hemsworth Villa after they won a penalty shoot-out at Sterling Commodities. When Mark Hopkinson was brought down in the area, Russ Westby stepped up to score from the penalty spot to give Villa a half time lead, but the home side levelled in the second half to take the game to extra time. Peter Burgin then put Villa back in front and just as it seemed they would go through Sterling equalised with the last kick of the game to take the tie to penalties. Although Villa had one penalty saved and they missed one, Villa keeper Chris Bell also saved one and when Sterling missed two penalties it left Mark Hopkinson to step up and send Villa through. Action from the game is shown below, including Peter Burgin's goal (first left) and Mark Hopkinson's winning penalty (second last).
Two first half Tom Fletcher strikes wasn’t enough to stop Oughtibridge Village going out and although a Ranch side missing ten of its squad put up a great fight against Alma of Mexborough, Chris Hall’s goal was just a consolation as they also went out. Handsworth Old Boys also fell, going out to another Mexborough side, Memories.
CBC PREMIER -
Ryan saves keep Stannington on top,
while Mellor double sees Southey second -
Stannington Village
were indebted to keeper Nathan Ryan as they completed a narrow 2-1 win
over Handsworth Turf to keep their place at the top of the CBC Premier.
After a goalless first half, Ali Mitchell put Stannington ahead when he
chested the ball down before beating the keeper with a half volley. They
doubled their lead when Sean Flynn’s cross was collected by Dean Jepson
who spun a defender before firing into the bottom corner. Bottom club
Turf didn’t give up though and after Joe France had just failed to
connect with new signing Scott Riley’s cross, they did pull one back
when Robert Pratt hit an unstoppable shot from twenty five yards. They
then threw everything at Stannington and after Ryan had made one save
from Matt Jackson, he produced an even better one in the final minute to
keep out a Carl Bowler effort and Stannington hung Up to second is Southey Social after their 3-1 victory over The Vine. Nicky Bond put Southey ahead midway through the first half, only to see it cancelled out when Danny Seaman put Oliver Ward through for him to lob the advancing keeper. Southey went back in front before half time though when Vine defender Shaun Blythe handled in the area and John Mellor slammed home his first. Ricky Davidson went close to levelling after the break, but Mellor put the result beyond doubt when he flicked home a corner at the near post.
DIV 1 -
Rowe nicks it for Ball, while The
Park hold on at Niagara -
The Park maintained
their Division One title challenge with victory over Niagara, but after
taking a three goal lead they were forced to hang on at the end. Lee
Bridges chipped the keeper to give The Park a half time lead and after
Callum Harrison had scored a second, Calvin Thomas’s blockbuster from
twenty five yards looked to have given them a comfortable win, but Ben
Dronfield scored twice for the home side to set up a grandstand finish
and The Park only just
Fellow title challengers Aston Swallownest weren’t so fortunate though and they lost their unbeaten home record in a seven goal thriller with Old Blue Ball. After Callum Chambers had given Ball the lead, David Sills had Aston level by the break, but after the break Aston shot themselves in the foot when a defender, under pressure by Chambers, put the ball into his own net. Scott McCormack then brought Aston level for a second time and they looked to be on the way to victory when Billy Evans put them ahead. Aston then hit the woodwork five times as they looked to put the game beyond Ball, but they couldn’t do it and after Nat Hannam had levelled for Ball, Christian Rowe (left) struck their winner. DIV 2 - Brinsworth go top, while Danny's are the boys for Players and Miners - After Jordan Jones had given Cobden View the lead and Mark Hoyle had hit the bar, Brinsworth Whitehill pulled themselves together and a Jed McGowan double together with one each from Joe McGuiness and Adam Robinson helped Brinsworth to victory and to the top of Division Two. Stunning
thirty yard strikes were the highlights as Fox & Hounds climbed into the
top three with victory over Junior Blades. Adam Warren was the first to
hit a thirty yarder to give Fox the lead before man of the match Paul
Dawson headed a second at the near post. It was then James Allen’s turn
to hit a thunderous volley from thirty yards to put the Blades back into
the game and if they had taken one of their other
After
Danny McLean had given Miners Arms the lead at Crookes & District, a Sam
Firth penalty had the home side level by half time, but the second half
belonged to both McLean and the Miners as Mclean took his and Miners’
tally to five. He wasn’t Another side to hit seven was Anston Athletic as they left Sharrow Vale still looking for their first point of the season. Ben Sargeant hit a thirty yarder to give Anston a two minute lead and Tom Gabbitas doubled it when he took the ball off a defender before beating the keeper. Matt Roebuck then poked home his first, quickly followed by his second from a Gabbitas cross.. Roebuck missed the chance of a hat-trick when his second half penalty was saved, but Anston continued to be on top and grabbed a fifth when Michael Smith scored only his second ever goal. Jamie Harrison the set Gabbitas up for his second before Danny Nelson chipped the keeper to complete the scoring. |

Former cup winners and CBC Premier leaders Stannington Village won the battle of the Village people against Division One Oughtibridge Village, but it was a close affair and after Dean Jepson’s opener for Stannington had been cancelled out when Sean Lee met a Strachan Sampson free kick, it needed an Ali Mitchell strike to send Stannington through to Round Three where they will entertain another former holder Stocksbridge Park Steels.
CBC PREMIER -
EPL & Bulls Head in goal fest, while
a quartet for Bath sinks Turf -
Another
player to score four was Andy Bath as he helped Civil Service to a 6-1
victory over Handsworth Turf. A tight first half saw Turf go close to
taking the lead when Kieran Fairchild’s header was saved by saved by
Service keeper Carl Whitby, but it was Bath that gave Service the lead
just before the break. Straight after the break Bath was on hand again
to head home Wes Bamford’s pinpoint cross and that seemed to open the
floodgates. Bamford was tormentor in chief and was the provider for Ben
Brown to score and after Gaz Griffiths had added a fourth, Bamford
set-up Bath’s third. Bath then added his fourth before Fairchild grabbed
a consolation for the visitors. After missing a penalty, Scott Birch (right) made amends by scoring twice to help Stocksbridge Park Steels to a 3-0 home win over Redmires. Birch’s miss came with the score at 0-0, but Steels were gaining the upper hand and took the lead before half time when Chris Robson headed Mitchell Savage’s corner home. The second half started with a second penalty award to Steels and this time Savage took responsibility, and although he also failed to find the net, Birch was first to the rebound to double Steels lead. Birch later scrambled home his second to secure his side’s first home win of the season. The Vine also secured their first home win of the season as Dan Bateman scored twice to help them to a 6-2 victory over Queens Ground. A Danny Seaman corner fell nicely for Will Blakeney to give The Vine the lead, but Queens soon levelled through Josh Bermingham. They weren’t on level terms for long though as first Ricky Davidson headed home Chris Hull’s cross, followed by Bateman’s drive from an acute angle gave The Vine a 3-1 half time lead. After the break a Davidson cross was turned into his own net by a Queens defender before Shaun Blythe added a fifth and Bateman a sixth, Nat Foster did grab a second for Queens, but it was little consolation.
A Matt Parks double helped Division One leaders Woodhouse Angel keep their perfect record with victory at Bradwell Skips. Although both sides had chances in the first half only Parks succeeded in finding the net and he repeated the feat after the break when put clean through. Lee Marshall later added a third to keep his side on top. Hot on their heels is Hemsworth Villa after a Lee Webber treble saw them triumph 3-1 at Ranch. Matt Scothorn crossed for Webber to give Villa the lead, but it needed a fine Chris Bell save to keep them in front at the break. Villa doubled their lead in the second half when Webber got on the end of a Russ Westby free kick to give the keeper no chance, but his third should have been saved by Ranch’s stand-in keeper Adam Hadfield. Ranch kept going though and grabbed a deserved consolation with a Carl Pearce penalty (the final picture from the game below).
Third place The Park and fourth place Aston Swallownest both lost ground on the top two as they fought out a thrilling 2-2 draw. David Nash gave The Park the lead inside twenty minutes, but Aston levelled two minutes later when leading scorer Ian Draper converted Andy Peter’s pass. The second half saw The Park re-take the lead through Daniel Robinson, but Aston threw everything they could at them and in a frantic finish their keeper came up for a corner and headed the ball down for Peter’s to give them a deserved point. Old Blue
Ball re-discovered their form as a Reece McAndless double helped them to
a 3-0 victory over Colley. Christian Rowe had given Ball the lead before
McAndless grabbed his first, but they still needed some fine saves by
keeper Adam Martin to keep them ahead. The second half saw Kevin Bly
play a pivotal role in keeping Colley at bay before McAndless made
certain with his second of the game. Just above Ball is Handsworth Old
Boys after a single Scott Abramski strike proved enough to beat Hollin
Bush. It should have been more comfortable though as Handsworth
squandered a first half penalty. Both sides hit the woodwork before
Abramski met Joe Totty’s cross to head the winner with just ten minutes
remaining.
DIV 2 - Phoenix flight brought to earth by Hoyle - Division Two's last remaining unbeaten record fell as Cobden View, with the help of a Mark Hoyle treble, came from three down to beat Phoenix. Loxley's Tim Pitt also hot three in their victory at Crookes & District and George Rudd also grabbed a hat-trick in Junior Blades' victory over Sharrow Vale. Billy Ireland scored twice as leaders Norton Oaks had a narrow victory over Fox & Hounds and Matt Roebuck scored twice as Anston Athletic took all three points at Players Lounge Athletic, while Brinsworth Whitehill came from two down to claim a point at Miners Arms. Division Two's last remaining unbeaten record fell as a Mark Hoyle treble helped Cobden View come from three down to beat Phoenix 5-3. That result hardly looked likely when two Dan Commander goals and one from Nicky Shaw gave Phoenix a three goal lead within the first fifteen minutes, but Cobden pulled themselves together and Hoyle pulled one back with a free kick and a second with a good finish. They were level by half time when Dan Skidmore scored from the penalty spot after Jordan Jones had been fouled. Cobden continued to be dominant after the break and took the lead with a Tom Lendle strike and clinched the points when Hoyle completed his hat-trick with another free-kick. Another hat-trick, by centre back and skipper Tim Pitt, was the centre-piece of Loxley's 5-3 victory at Crookes & District. Pitt started the scoring with a header after Geoff Mayfield’s flick on, but Crookes soon levelled when quick thinking by Mike Dobson saw him score with a free kick while the Loxley defence were trying to sort themselves out. They weren’t level for long though as Karl Taylor restored Loxley’s lead and it was doubled when Mayfield headed a long throw home. Pitt netted his second from Tom Storey’s flick-on before half time and he completed his hat-trick soon after the interval following Richard Lester’s header into the box. Crookes kept going though and new signing Will Hale marked his debut with two goals, but the result was never in doubt. A third hat-trick came from George Rudd in Junior Blades' 6-2 victory over Sharrow Vale. Rudd opened the scoring and the Blades took a three goal lead with Martin Hearnshaw’s low shot and Alex Raybould’s header from a Jake Schofield cross, but Vale hit back and a volley from Liam Walch and a brilliant free kick by Tom Wray had them right back in it by the break. Wray missed a good chance to level at the start of the second half, but Rudd was causing them real problems and he increased the Blades lead with a solo goal. Rudd then completed his hat-trick before Adam Caywood completed the scoring. Billy Ireland scored twice as leaders Norton Oaks stayed top with a narrow 4-3 victory over Fox & Hounds. Full back Adam Chambers headed home for his first goal for many years to give Fox the lead, but Oaks soon levelled when Coel Fulton’s through ball was chipped over the advancing keeper by Ireland and they were in front by half time when Mark Turton headed home a long throw. After the break Alex Hughes supplied the pass for Ireland to score his second and they looked to be in complete control when Richard Gillam’s shot was deflected past the keeper. Fox then squandered a great chance to pull one back when they missed a penalty that was to ultimately prove very costly because Gary West grabbed their second and Adam warren scored a third when they were awarded a second penalty. Matt Roebuck scored twice as Anston Athletic found their best form of the season to take all three points at Players Lounge Athletic with a 5-0 victory. Only Anston’s Rob Russell knows how he missed to leave the first half goalless, but his side soon took the advantage after the break with a Gary Sidebottom strike. Their lead was doubled by Matt Roebuck from the penalty spot after Jordan Jones had been fouled and Roebuck quickly added his second. Danny Nelson added their fourth from a Sidebottom free kick and James Lawton completed the scoring with a cross that became a shot. Third place Brinsworth Whitehill came from two down to claim a point at a Miners Arms that finished with ten men after their keeper had been dismissed for denying a goal scoring opportunity. A Joe Kangley penalty and a Jake Grimstone shot from near the half-way line put Miners two up, but two Adam Robinson goals, the second from the penalty spot after the Miners keeper had seen red had Brinsworth level by half time. The second half saw Miners ten men re-take the lead with a second Kangley penalty, but Brinsworth claimed a share of the points with a Jed McGowan strike. |

A string of first half saves by keeper Steven Marshall and second half John Ward double helped Stocksbridge Park Steels to collect their first CBC Premier points of the season with a 4-0 victory at The Vine. Both sides knocked the ball about confidently and it was Marshall that was first called into action when Ricky Davidson burst through, but Steels went down to the other end and gained the advantage when Kevin Davies was brought down in the box. Adam Todd saw his penalty (below left) come back off the post but team mate Phil Cookson was first to react and buried the rebound to give Steels the lead. Marshall then had to make three terrific saves (below middle) as The Vine went in search of an equaliser, but even when Marshall was beaten the ball was cleared off the line. The second half saw Steels take a firmer grip with a Matt Jessermino goal and as The Vine defence became stretched, they finally wrapped the points up with two from Ward late in the game. More action from the game is below.

Division
One’s only game saw an own goal give Hollin Bush the lead at home to
Colley, but Colley DIV 2 - Top two both beaten - Division Two’s top two both came a cropper, with leaders Norton Oaks throwing away a two goal lead before going down at Cobden View. Dan Skidmore converted a Mark Hoyle cross to give Cobden an early lead, but Billy Ireland soon levelled for the leaders and they took the lead when they were awarded a penalty. Although Mark Turton’s spot kick was brilliantly saved by Jamie Dodd, the rebound fell kindly for Turon to follow up and score. The second half saw Jamie Marshall double Oaks’ lead, but they then seemed to press the self destruct button when their keeper was dismissed. Jordan Jones crossed for Mike Walker to pull one back for Cobden before a Dave Hunt cross was headed home by Andy Jakubowski to level. The game was finally turned on its head as Dave Beckett stole in to hit Cobden’s winner.
Miners Arms secured their first home win of the season 5-0 over a Sharrow Vale side still looking for its first point. Only a Carl Harris header separated the sides in a fairly even first half, but after he had doubled Miners lead soon after the break there was no stopping them and Two from Jay Whittaker and one from Joe Kangley completed the scoring. James Saxilby gave Anston Athletic the lead at Chapeltown RBL, but driven on by Rob Portman the home side levelled with a Liam Gibson header and took the lead before half time with Gibson’s second. Anston came back strongly after the break though and grabbed a deserved equaliser when Jamie Harrison poked a corner home.

Pitsmoor Royal Oak fell behind to a thirty yard belter by visitors Earl Marshall, but they quickly levelled when Matt Betts turned in the box to hit his first for the club. Betts soon followed this up with his second to put Oak ahead and they doubled that advantage before half time when Gavin Davis put Stacy Sharif through to score. After the break Davis added Oak’s fourth and fifth before he set up second for Sharif. The scoring was completed by Earl Marshall, but it was into their own net.
Despite dominating their tie with Byron House for long periods and two Rob Womack goals Southey Social went out 3-2 and, despite Craig Senior and Mark Rhodes strikes, it was a similar scoreline as Ecclesfield Players Lounge went out against Greenhill White Hart. Queens Ground were missing nine regulars from their line-up so it was no surprise they suffered a heavy defeat at Wadsley Bridge WMC. FC Handsworth Turf made the short journey to the Handsworth Turf Tavern team they share there headquarters with at the pub of the same name. Both teams also have the same sponsor Aspect Energy Managment Ltd. and the game also brought two brothers up against each other, with former Blades player Ryan France on the Turf Tavern management team and Joe France in the FC Handsworth Turf midfield. The first half started with Tavern showing why they are top of the Meadowhall Premier with their quick tempo and ability to keep the ball for long periods and their pressure finally told when a long ball into the box wasn't dealt with by FC Turf's defence and the ball fell to Matt Ellis to score. FC Turf's keeper Jamie King was then called upon to show what a good goalkeeper he is with two great saves to stop Tavern increasing their lead, but Hobson did eventually beat him to double Tavern's lead. FC Turf responded with a great run from Danny Leesley, who found Robert Pratt and his great through ball with the outside of his foot found Jimmy Hughes, but his shot was blocked by a defender. Right on the stroke of half time FC Turf had a great chance to get a goal back when skipper Andy Stevens' curling free kick was met by Joe France, but his header only found the side netting. FC Turf introduced pacey striker Matt Jackson at half time and this spurred them on to an improved second half. After a great run down the right by Ben Shackshaft, his cross across the six yard box would have brought a goal with the slightest toouch. France and Shackshaft started to have a big say in the game and FC Turf thought they had pulled one back when Shackshaft combined with Jackson who crossed for France to run on and shoot from the edge of the area, but it smashed against the bar and bounced down on the line, but referee Lee Freeman ruled no goal. France then went close again when he picked the ball up on the halfway line and ran with it before hitting a shot from thirty yards that went just wide of the post, but Tavern came back into the game strongly and King again came to FC Turf's rescue on more than one occasion. Tavern then had a shot that hit the bar and post, and their pressure eventually brought a third and final goal when Tootle fired home from the edge of the area. Tavern took the honours this time but FC Turf were by no means disgraced and pushed their highly rated opponents harder than most. FC Handsworth Turf: 1. Jamie King 2. Danny Leesley 3. Ricardo Stewart put The Park ahead early on, but Loxley levelled when Steve Mayfield stole in at the back post to head home. Man of the match Matt Evans then set Josh Delaney up for him to put Loxley ahead only to see it cancelled out by Mark Townsend just before the break. Instead of being dispirited by that it was Loxley that went ahead again four minutes into the second half when Mick Smith intercepted a misplaced pass before squaring for Delaney to hit his second. After that Geoff Mayfield in midfield and skipper Tim Pitt at the back managed to keep The Park at bay and Loxley held on to go through.
Another all-Blades Super Draw tie saw Oughtibridge Village blitz their
Division One rivals Old Blue Ball 9-0. There was no sign of the avalan Chris
James’s third hat-trick in as many games was the centre piece of
Handsworth Old Boys 6-0 victory over Holly Bush. John
Hemsworth Villa also went through with a 3-0 victory at The Chantrey Arms, but it might have been a very different story had keeper Chris Bell (left) not made a number of saves before Villa opened the scoring. That came when Peter Burgin cut in from the left and fired in a shot the keeper couldn’t hold and Lee Webber tapped home the rebound. A handball in the area then allowed Russ Westby to double Villa’s lead before half time and Webber completed the scoring after the break when a long throw was headed into his path by Alex Yule.
A second Division Two side to go through is Phoenix after a Dan Commander hat-trick helped them to a 5-2 victory over High Green Rovers. Bradley Hardy and Nicky Shaw added Phoenix’s others who had the game as good as won after establishing a 4-0 lead by half time. Fox & Hounds almost joined them, but after leading Wheel Athletic 4-1 through a Richard Firth hat-trick and one from Steve Davis, they let it slip and it was the visitors that went through on a penalty shoot-out. Goals from Adam Whittaker and George Rudd weren’t enough to stop Junior Blades losing 3-2 at home to Everest, and, despite Liam Parnell giving them the lead, Woodhouse Angel also went down 2-1 at last season’s beaten finalists Wincobank Forum. A single Ian Draper strike wasn’t enough to stop Aston Swallownest going out 3-1 at Hurlfield. |
7 Oct - MACRON CUP - Oaks through as Bush pay the penalty and Firth's four for holders - Although Round Two of the Macron Cup brought a few near misses, there was just one shock when Division Two Norton Oaks came through at Division One Hollin Bush after a penalty shoot out. Bush got off to the best possible start when Kava May put them ahead in the first minute, but Oaks levelled before half time when a Coel Fulton cross was turned into his own net by a defender. May restored Bush’s lead in the second half, but Oaks levelled a second time when the keeper couldn’t hold Andy Dawson’s free kick and Jamie Marshall tapped the loose ball home. That
took the game to extra time and it was Oaks’ turn to take the lead when
Mark Turton sent Dave Hughes through to score, but Bush levelled through
Phil Reynolds. Turton crossed for Hughes to put Oaks back in front, but
a penalty award saw Cole Starkes level the scores again and take it to
penalties. After both sides had missed one of their first five, Ashley
Holland hit the decisive spot kick to make Oaks the only Division Two
side to make it to through. Adam Firth (right) made the most of his first start of the season to score four goals as holders Civil Service quickly showed that they intend to hold onto the cup for a third time when they beat fellow CBC Premier side Queens Ground 5-1. Gavin Wills set Firth up for his first and after he had doubled the lead, he completed his hat-trick with a penalty before the break. He added a fourth after the break and Wes Bamford made it five before Andy Coy scored Queens consolation. Although it was a victory built on teamwork, Andy Bath’s hard work caught the eye and John Charles and Gaz Griffiths looked very solid at the back. The
other all-CBC Premier clash saw former holders Handsworth Turf see off
Pitsmoor Royal Oak 3-1, but it might have been very different had Oak’s
Callum Hawley not missed a penalty when his team were just a goal
behind. Great work by
The second half saw a second spot kick awarded to Oak after Stacy Sharif was pushed in the area and he took it himself to reduce the deficit. Oak’s Scott Spzajer then hit a post and Gavin Davis went close, but when Gallagher and Hughes combined to send Pratt through, he rounded the keeper to score his second. With Carl Bowler keeping his defence solid, Oak never looked like getting back into it and Turf missed several chances to make their win even more emphatic. After Lee Bridges have given them the lead at Cobden View, last season’s beaten finalists The Park were given a bit of a shock when Jordan Jones shot was turned into his own net by a defender. Cobden were giving it a real go, especially as they had lost their keeper to injury after just two minutes, but after the break, when Jack Ridge was brought down in the area, Dan Robinson scored from the spot to restore The Park’s lead and Bridges scored a second to make the victory safe. After a goalless first half, a shock looked on the cards when Division Two Loxley took the lead at home to CBC Premier Stocksbridge Park Steels. Steve Mayfield was pushed in the area and Tim Pitt scored from the spot, but Steels held their nerve and got back into it when Phil Cookson scrambled the ball home. Steels then won it when Richard Gill crossed for Adam Todd to head home. A shock also looked on when Marlon Catwell gave Division One Bradwell Skips a second half lead at CBC Premier Redmires, but the home side levelled when James Kirkham headed across the goal for Dave Knaggs to score and Redmires won it when Knaggs hit his second after combining with Jon Wall. Jamie
Roper’s crossfield ball and Danny Lindley’s first time cross allowed
Nicky Bond to head CBC Premier Southey Social ahead at home against
Division One Ranch, but the visitors levelled when Oliver Whittaker was
brought down by the keeper and he picked himself up to score Division Two Players Lounge Athletic had much the better of the first half at Division One Hemsworth Villa, but the nearest they came to opening the scoring came when Danny Marcus’s cross was headed against the bar and Villa keeper Chris Bell had to make just one save of note, but Athletic’s dominance was rewarded early in the second half when Michael Pearce’s through ball was finished off by Danny Clinton. It didn’t last long though as Nathan McGuinness’s glancing header took a deflection off Antony Holmes into the net and Dean Bagley then set Alex Yule up to give Villa the lead. That seemed to knock the stuffing out of the visitors and Mark Hopkinson set Lee Webber up for Villa’s third (pictured right) and Hopkinson was again involved for a fourth from John Smith. Hopkinson then added a fifth to give Villa an emphatic win. More action from the game is shown below.
Bulls Head had the biggest win when they hammered Old Blue Ball 8-2. Jordan Barton’s early opener was cancelled out by Christian Rowe, but an Alan Mowforth penalty soon had Bull back in front and, after Ball had been reduced to ten men for a second yellow, Nick Ash added a third before half time. Rowe gave Ball some hope with his second, but Bull was on the rampage and Barton hit his second before two from Lee Smith and one each for Mark Bryant and John Marples completed the rout.
After
Shaun Blythe had put The Vine one up from the penalty spot, a third
hat-trick came from Ricky Davidson as The Vine progressed 5-2 at
Chapeltown RBL. A Sam Walch penalty had briefly put the home side back
in the game, but Davidson’s treble and one from Dan Bateman made Matt
Jackson’s second goal for Chapeltown just a consolation. Two each for
Matt Meaney and John Williams plus one for Joe Zipfel gave Colley a very
comfortable 5-0 victory over Miners Arms. Aston Swallownest were left rueing a string a missed chances in the first half as Woodhouse Angel won it with just three minutes remaining when man-of-the-match Dave Kippax (left) headed home. Niagara’s victory over Phoenix was just as close with Phoenix not able to turn possession into goals. Matt Edwards corner was headed home by Simon Staniforth to give Niagara a half time lead and Staniforth led a quick break out of defence to set Scott Fitzgerald up to double their lead.
