30 Sep - CBC PREM - Southey Knagged by Redmires and top two held -

A Dave Knaggs (right) hat-trick helped Redmires end third place Southey Social's perfect record and with the top two also dropping points just four points separates eight clubs. Southey had the CBC Premier’s only perfect record going into the game, but Redmires made the most of a firm wind at their backs and with Knaggs pace causing Southey all sorts of problems, he netted a first half hat-trick to put Redmires firmly in control. Southey hit back at the start of the second half and a John Mellor strike together with a debut goal for Nicky Bond, they were right back in the game, but Knaggs remained a thorn in their side and he linked up with Jon Wall for Wall to seal the three points for Redmires.

Leaders Stannington Village also let points slip when they allowed a ten man Queens Ground grab a late equaliser. Ali Mitchell gave Stannington an early lead and although Rease Burkinshaw curled home a real beauty from twenty five yards to level for Queens, another by Mitchell and one from Dan Green looked to have put Stannington on the way to victory, but local rivals Queens had other ideas and they pulled one back with a Tom Bermingham penalty before half time. It looked like the game would be beyond Queens though when Ryan Mills was dismissed for a second yellow card, but Stannington squandered a number of good chances to make certain and they paid for them when Suade Modest popped up to draw Queens level.

Second place Bulls Head also let points slip and needed a very late Greg Broomhead equaliser to get a point at The Vine. The Vine were boosted by the return of Ricky Davidson from rivals Civil Service and the return from injury by Andrew Jenkinson and after Dan Bateman had hit the bar they took the lead when Danny Seaman (left) crossed for Chris Hull to head home. Bulls Head hit back when Broomhead was brought down in the area by keeper James Marshall and Alan Mowforth scored from the spot, but The Vine went back in front after the break when Seaman scored in off a post. It looked like they would hold on, but just two minutes from time Broomhead took advantage of a corner not cleared properly to give Bulls Head a share of the spoils.

Craig Senior (right) grabbed two as Ecclesfield Players Lounge at last found their form to beat Handsworth Turf 5-1 and Senior would have had a hat-trick had he not shown another great piece of sportsmanship. Ecclesfield looked determined from the off and after Senior hit a post early on, Liam Wilkinson headed straight at the keeper when he should have scored, but they did take the lead when Senior converted a cross. They increased it when Danny Turner’s effort came back off the post and Mark Groves tidied up. Gavin Hunter then rounded the Turf keeper to make it three before Senior grabbed his second and Danny Touhey made it five. Senior then had a chance for a hat-trick but when his first effort left the Turf keeper prostrate on the floor, instead of scoring he sportingly knocked the ball out of play. Turf’s consolation came when Andy Stevens scored from penalty spot.

Champions Civil Service look to be getting back into their groove after their 3-1 win over Pitsmoor Royal Oak. Wes Bamford and Andy Bath had both missed chances when Tom Stubbs headed Service ahead and Bath doubled that lead when he finished off a set piece with his chest. Scott Spzajer had already missed a couple of chances before he combined with Stacy Sharif and Andy Dawson to pull one back, but Service settled it when Gaz Griffiths headed home another set piece by Gavin Wills.

DIV 1- Parnell winner sends Angel flying to the top - Division One’s top game saw leaders The Park entertain second place Woodhouse Angel and it was the visitors that went home with the points and top spot thanks to a quality finish by Liam Parnell (left). The Park took the lead when Lee Bridges was brought down in the area and Dan Robinson slammed home the spot kick. Angel were quick to respond and they were level when Lee Marshall volleyed home from the edge of the area and they took the lead a minute before the break when Gareth Simons hit a beauty from thirty yards. The second half was just two minutes old when Bridges brought The Park level and although both sides had chances to win it, the points finally went Angel’s way thanks to Parnell.

The clash between newly promoted Oughtibridge Village entertained a Hemsworth Villa aiming for a swift return to the top flight saw Oughtibridge get off to a confident start with some good inter-passing and possession, yet it was Villa that got the first sight of goal. Alex Yule slipped Lee Webber in and his first time shot was well saved by John Burkinshaw but Alex Yule picked up the loose ball and again passed to Webber who saw his shot this time blocked on the line by Dave Buckley.

Villa were always dangerous on the break and took the lead after twenty minutes when Pete Burgin chipped a pass over Oughtibridge’s central defenders for Webber to run onto and smash a volley into Burkinshaw’s left hand corner. Despite that setback, Oughtibridge continued to knock the ball around with confidence so it was against the run of play when Villa grabbed a second when Webber raced away down the right and his cross was only partially cleared to Alex Yule who volleyed home.

Yule had a thunderous shot come back off the underside of the bar before Oughtibridge steadied the ship and got back into their passing game. David Sheakey put Justin Westoby through and he looked to have pulled one back until his shot was tipped onto the post by Villa keeper Chris Bell. Westoby was then brought down just outside the area by Bell, who breathed a sigh of relief to see that the card was only yellow.

Oughtibridge’s chances were hampered when both Tom Redman and James Duroe had to give way to injury, but with sub Sean Lee making his comeback from almost a year out through injury, after the break Villa had to defend for long periods as Oughtibridge again pressed forward in numbers and they deservedly pulled one back when Villa conceded an unnecessary free kick near the corner flag and Craig Crownshaw’s cross evaded everyone to go in at the back post (pictured right).

Justin Westoby then thought he had levelled for the home side, but his terrific drive came back off the bar with Villa keeper Chris Bell well beaten. Bell then made a good save before Villa broke away to score their third. Pete Burgin’s mazy run past three players was only stopped by a David Buckley foul in the area and Russell Westby stepped up to score from the spot and restore Villa’s two goal lead.

That seemed to knock the stuffing out of Oughtibridge and Villa almost extended their lead still further when Yule turned in the box and saw his drive come back off the underside of the bar. Oughtibridge pulled themselves together and Westoby, Lee and Sheakey all went close, but it was Villa that completed the scoring when Webber, who had been a constant threat on the break for Villa, got his second when substitute Liam Pashley fed it through the defence for him to run on to and put it past Burkinshaw.

Though a 4 – 1 victory was slightly flattering to Villa they are up to second in Division One and as one of only two unbeaten sides, they are looking good for that swift return to the top flight. Newly promoted Oughtibridge will take heart from the fact that their passing game caused Villa plenty of problems, but they will need to find an end product to it if they want to push themselves into the promotion race.

Aston Swallownest had to start their game at Handsworth Old Boys without their normal centre back pairing and their normal keeper, so perhaps it was no surprise that they lost their unbeaten record when suffering their heaviest ever defeat 6-1. Two Chris James (right) strikes and one from Alex Whitham had Handsworth three up at the break and the second half saw James complete his hat-trick and Mario Esposito and Matt Knight make it six before Nathan Warren grabbed Aston’s consolation.

A single strike from midfielder John Morgan gave Old Blue Ball their first win of the season at home against Hollin Bush, and a Matt Meaney double helped do the same for Colley against Bradwell Skips. Nick Curtis gave Skips a first half lead, but after the break a penalty by Meaney and a second strike a minute later put Colley ahead. Brook Duncan levelled for Skips but Colley secured their win when John Williams scrambled the ball home.Another double by Simon Staniforth wasn't enough to give Niagara victory at Ranch as Ben Hartley direct from a corner and Adam Hadfield’s chip over the keeper twice saw the home side come from behind to claim a point.

DIV 2 - Fulton double send Oak back to the top, while a Clinton treble gives Vale their cards -

Norton Oaks are back on top of Division Two after two Coel Fulton goals helped them beat Cobden View. Steve Scott poked the ball home following a corner to give Oaks a first half lead, but Dan Skidmore equalised after the break when he volleyed home Jordan Jones’ cross. Fulton restored Oaks’ lead when a frre kick was headed back across goal to him by Billy Ireland and Fulton extended the lead when he dispossessed a defender to race away and score. Paul Griffiths then set up a second for Skidmore to give Oaks a nervy finish, but they held on to go back to the top.

A Steve Davis double helped Fox & Hounds come from behind to win at Miners Arms and go second. Miners had the majority of play in the first half and deservedly led through Jake Grimstone, but Davis levelled for the visitors just before half time and they went on to dominate the second half. Richard Firth put Fox ahead before Davis hit his second to seal the points.

Danny Clinton (first left below) hit a -trick as Players Lounge Athletic beat Sharrow Vale 5-0 to record their first win of the season. Constant pressure on the Vale defence saw the Vale keeper make save after save, but they eventually conceded when Alex Evison pressurised a defender into putting the ball into his own net. Clinton then got his first when skipper and man of the match Louis Barnes ran from his left back position and played a great through ball for Clinton to stroke into the far corner. His second came following a long ball from Rueben Wood was brought down by Clinton before he chipped the on-coming keeper and after the break Danny Marcus won the ball in midfield before sending Clinton through to complete his hat-trick. New signing Dale Watts made it five when he beat two defenders before hitting a low shot into the far corner.

Adam Robinson scored twice in Brinsworth Whitehill's 4-2 win at Crookes & District and although Daniel Hirst and a debut goal from the head of Ross Carey briefly levelled things up for Crookes, more goals from Joe Karle and Kieran Clark ensured that Brinsworth kept their perfect record. After a goalless first half when Tom Gabbitas blazed over for the home side, Steve Mayfield hit Loxley's winner at Anston Athletic when he drilled a free kick into the bottom corner after Anthony Marshall had been fouled. After that, with John Denton keeping Loxley solid at the back, they looked more likely to increase their lead with the pace of Tom Storey causing Anston problems, but even though Carl Taylor went close, one proved enough for Loxley’s first win of the season.

Junior Blades also completed their first league win of the season, 3-0 against Chapeltown RBL. Jake Schofield crossed for Dick Pearson to put the Blades a first half lead and after the break, Schofield outpaced the visitors defence for their second before a flowing move was finished off by Alex Raybould for their third.

26 Sep - Sunday Cup Draws - The Senior Cup draw has thrown up one all-Blades Super Draw tie with Stannington Village entertaining a Redmires side that beat them a couple of weeks ago, while Handsworth Turf face a very local derby against the Meadowhall leaders they share their headquarters with, Handsworth Turf Tavern.

The Junior Cup sees three all-Blades Super Draw ties, with Oughtibridge Village entertaining Old Blue Ball, Bradwell Skips entertaining Niagara and The Park entertaining Loxley. The full list of games featuring our teams is shown below - all games to be played on Sunday 14 Oct:

25 Sep - League reward good sports - To thank both Ecclesfield Players Lounge and Norton Oaks for their show of sportsmanship last weekend, the League presented each club with an FA Respect match ball and pictured is Ecclesfield secretary Paul Bashforth (left) and Norton Oaks' Andrew Dawson.

23 Sep - CBC PREM - Ecclesfield show the right spirit - After the referee had told the players to play on after a Bulls Head effort had appeared to go into the goal, Ecclesfield Players Lounge players showed the true spirit of the League when they told the referee that the ball had gone into the goal to give Bulls Head a 2-0 lead and although Bulls Head went on to win 5-2, Ecclesfield show of sportsmanship made them real winners. Elsewhere Stannington Village returned to the top with victory at Pitsmoor Royal Oak and Handsworth Turf also won at home against The Vine, while a Nat Foster (right) double helped Queens Ground to victory at home against Stocksbridge Park Steels, but Civil Service let a two goal lead slip before drawing with Redmires.

Ecclesfield were already behind to a Mark Bryant header for Bulls Head when another header by Lee Smith struck the metal frame at the back of the goal before rebounding out. The referee initially thought the ball had hit the post, but the Ecclesfield players sportingly went to him to say what had actually happened and a goal was awarded to put Bulls Head 2-0 in front. The second half saw Bulls Head extend their lead with another Smith header and although Craig Senior pulled one back for Ecclesfield, an Alan Mowforth penalty and a Jordan Barton strike put the game beyond them, although they did complete the scoring with Senior’s second of the game.

Elsewhere in the CBC Premier, Stannington Village reclaimed top spot with a well deserved 3-0 victory at Pitsmoor Royal Oak. By taking four points off them last season, Oaks had effectively stopped Stannington taking the title, so Stannington looked determined from the off to make sure there was no repeat and they took a first half lead when Lee Johnstone’s free kick was headed home by Josh Coulson. Oak went close with a Callum Hawley free kick after the break, but the introduction of sub Sami Eric ensured the points went Stannington’s way. He volleyed home a Joe Barker cross, before calmly grabbing a second, but Oaks knew they had been second best this time, but still had plenty of praise for referee Pete Henger (right).

Another referee to earn praise was James Bell in Queens Ground’s 5-1 victory over Stocksbridge Park Steels. Scott Birch put Steels ahead early in the game and if they had taken their other chances they might well have gone on to win comfortably, but they paid for those misses when Nat Foster brilliantly bent a free kick around Steels defensive wall to level the scores. Queen’s then went ahead with a Tom Bermingham penalty and Andy Coy doubled their lead before the break. It was a similar story after the break, with Steels continuing to make and miss chances and they were punished further by a Josh Bermingham strike and another from Foster.

Handsworth Turf made it two wins in a row with a 2-1 victory over The Vine. Joe France and Matt Jackson combined to set up Jimmy Hughes to hit the opener and Jackson made it two on twenty minutes. Both Danny Seaman and Simon Clark hit a post as The Vine responded and they had an even better chance when they were awarded a penalty for handball, but Will Blakeney’s spot kick was brilliantly saved by Jamie King. King was eventually beaten by Seaman when he prodded home a Blakeney pass, but it was Handsworth who came nearest to scoring after that when both Mark Jones and Andy Stevens went close.

Champions Civil Service looked to have got their title challenge back on track when Andy Bath in the first half and Wes Bamford in the second half gave them a two goal lead at Redmires. Service then had more chances to put the game out of sight, but a loose pass was pounced on by Redmires and Nick Hickson volleyed home. It still looked as if Service would take home the points, but in the final minute a mistake by John Charles was punished by Dave Knaggs and Service had to settle for just a point.

DIV 1- Bridges treble keeps The Park on top - Helped by a Lee Bridge (left) treble, The Park stayed top with victory at Bradwell Skips, but Woodhouse Angel and Aston Swallownest kept pace with them with victories over Handsworth Old Boys and Oughtibridge Village. Chris Bell hit a double as Hemsworth Villa blew Old Blue Ball aside, while Simon Staniforth hit two penalties as Niagara came back from two down to beat Colley.

Division One’s top three all kept their perfect records, with leaders The Park producing the most impressive result, winning 6-1 at Bradwell Skips. Calvin Thomas’ through ball allowed Lee Bridges to give The Park an early lead and Bridges chipped the keeper to double it before half time. Bradwell responded after the break and pulled one back through John Pedder, but The Park restored their two goal lead almost immediately when David Nash cut in from the left to score. Thomas then hit their fourth when he put home the rebound after a Bridges shot had been saved and Tony Gurnhill added a fifth before Bridges completed his hat-trick with a header from Gurnhill’s cross.

Matt Parks opened the scoring for second place Woodhouse Angel against Handsworth Old Boys and a brilliant header by Luke Browse doubled Angel’s lead before half time. Handsworth tried to get back into it in the second half, but Angel’s defence was rarely troubled and they ran out 2-0 winners.

Third place Aston Swallownest had to draw on all their reserves to win an enthralling encounter with Oughtibridge Village 5-3. An Ian Draper screamer and a David Sills strike gave Aston a two goal half time lead and although Justin Westoby pulled one back for Village after the break, Nathan Warren converted a near post cross to put Aston 3-1 ahead. Tom Redmond then hit a twenty five yarder to put Village back into it again and this time they levelled when Westoby grabbed his second. Village looked the more likely to win it at this stage and Aston’s keeper had to be at his best to stop them taking the lead.  His work was rewarded when Draper’s eye for a goal saw him meet a near post cross to put Aston ahead again and Scott McCormack rounded three players before hitting their fifth.

A Matt Meaney double seemed to be sending Colley on their way to victory at Niagara and even though the home side pulled one back through a Simon Staniforth penalty, a John Williams strike had Colley 3-1 in front at half time. It all started to go pear shaped for Colley when a second penalty was conceded and Staniforth scored again. Matt Edwards then levelled for the home side before a Ben Dronfield free kick put them ahead. Scott Wesney then completed the scoring to leave Niagara 5-3 winners.

Another high scoring game saw Hemsworth Villa keep up their challenge with a 7-3 victory over Old Blue Ball. Lee Taylor headed Villa in front after just four minutes and man of the match Peter Burgin set Chris Bell up to hit a second soon after. Adam Martin pulled one back for Ball, but there was no stopping Villa and Russ Westby set Andy Hibberd up to score their third before Matt Scothorn added a fourth. The game was effectively over before half time when a Westby cross was turned into his own net by a Ball defender. After the break, Burgin set Liam Pashley up to make it six and Bell added his second before Christian Rowe and Martin’s second gave Ball two more consolations. Action from the game is right and below

DIV 2 - Norton show the right spirit - In a remarkably similar situation to the one with Ecclesfield in the CBC Premier, when Norton Oaks were two up at Phoenix, the home side had an effort that went in, but came out through the side netting of the goal and although the referee had awarded a goal kick, the Norton players advised him that it was in fact a goal. It turned out to be the turning point as Phoenix went on to end Norton's unbeaten record. Miners Arms grabbed their first win at Chapeltown RBL, as did Crookes & District at Sharrow Vale, while Brinsworth Whitehill kept their perfect record at home against Anston Athletic and there was also wins for Cobden View at home to Junior Blades and Fox & Hounds at home against Players Lounge Athletic.

Coel Fulton and Jamie Marshall goals meant Norton Oaks were leading Phoenix 2-0 when a shot by Phoenix’s Dan Commander went into the goal, but came out through side netting that had become loose during the game. The referee initially gave a goal kick until the Norton Oaks players pointed out what had happened and a goal was subsequently awarded. It turned out to be a real turning point in the game as Phoenix equalised with a strike from man of the match Charlie Hodgson before he then put them in front. Nick Shaw added a fourth and Karl Fox a fifth as Norton fell apart. Norton got back into it with Marshall’s second of the game, but Commander’s second restored Phoenix’s three goal lead. Josh Stafford headed a fourth for Norton, but it came too late to stop them losing their unbeaten record and Phoenix climbing over them into the top spot.

Cobden View are up to third after a 3-0 victory over Junior Blades. Mark Hoyle gave them a first half lead and, in the first minute after the break, Jordan Jones celebrated his first start for the club by heading their second. The Blades kept going and only good defending stopped them getting back into the game before Carl Scanlan added Cobden’s third.

Fourth is Fox & Hounds after their narrow 3-2 win against Players Lounge Athletic. Steve Davies gave Fox a first half lead, but after the break Athletic levelled when Antony Holmes cross shot found the net. Lee Rooney then headed Fox back in front, but when Holmes was felled in the area Danny Clinton hit his fifth in four games to again level the scores. Fox weren’t finished though and won it when Linden Fletcher headed home a corner.

Brinsworth Whitehill made it two wins out of two with a 3-1 home win over Anston Athletic. Although Adam Robinson’s opener for Brinsworth was cancelled out when Daniel Nelson scored direct from a corner, second half goals from Joe McGuiness and Mikey Eyre saw Brinsworth home. Crookes & District fell behind at Sharrow Vale when Tom Wray was tripped in the area and he scored from the spot, but after the break man of the match Lee Wharton levelled for Crookes before Vale had their keeper dismissed for a trip outside the area. Dominic Welbourne put Crookes ahead and Greg McLlennan added their third. Jamie Shaw grabbed a second for the home side, but Crookes held on for their first win of the season.

Miners Arms also completed their first league win of the season, 3-1 at Chapeltown RBL. A Joe Kangley double had Miners in charge at half time and although a Matt Hall inspired Chapeltown pulled one back with a Sam Walch penalty, Miners Daniel Saif secured their win.

18 Sep - Ecclesfield Players Lounge get kitted out - Ecclesfield Players Lounge's full back Dale Hirst has further helped his team with his local painting and decorating business supplying training kit to his side and pictured left is Dale on the right, seen with Ecclesfield's manager Paul Bashforth. Anyone wanting to use his services can contact Dale on 07734 153362.

16 Sep - CBC PREM - Southey go top as Stannington capture Bulls Head - Southey Social are the CBC Premier’s third leader in as many weeks after they won at Queens Ground, while Bulls Head went down in a seven goal thriller at Stannington Village. Defences were on top in a goalless first half at Queens, so it needed something special to open the scoring but when it came it was like a bolt out of the blue. When John Mellor headed Rob Womack’s corner was back into the danger area, all Danny Stead had to do was boot the ball clear, but for some reason best known to himself he managed to smash it straight into his own goal to give Southey the lead. Queens levelled with a Tom Bermingham penalty, but the points and top spot went Southey’s way when Joel Askham’’s corner was helped into the net off the bar by a slight deflection from a defender.

Bulls Head took their unbeaten record to Stannington Village, but it looked in danger early on when Shaun Flynn’s run and cross was met by Josh Coulson’s left foot and with the help of a slight deflection the ball found the top corner. It soon got worse for the visitors when Bill Green and Coulson combined for Dean Jepson to score at the front post, but Bull got back into it before the break with an Alan Mowforth penalty and they were level soon after the break when Nick Ash slammed home a free kick.

Bull then had two shouts for another penalty turned down before they fell behind again when a Lee Johnstone free kick came back off the post and Jack Mylnek (pictured right) blasted home the rebound. Bull looked to have claimed a point when Jordan Barton crossed for Tom Cocker to score, but when Dan Green headed the ball back into the middle, the resulting scramble saw Jepson get the final touch to win it for Stannington.

Up to second is Pitsmoor Royal Oak after they recovered from the shock of going two down early in the game to win 6-2. Dale White crossed for Nick Hickton to head Redmires into a first minute lead and when Shkeren Krasniqi doubled it soon after it looked like Redmires were heading for a comfortable win, but Stacy Sharif (pictured left) finished off a cross from Gavin Davis to put Oak back into the game before Callum Hawley levelled with a twenty five yard stunner. Davis then scored twice to put Oak in charge and victory was assured when Andrew Dawson beat three men before rounding the keeper to score their fifth and Sharif netted a sixth.

Handsworth Turf earned their first win of the season with goals in each half at a Stocksbridge Park Steels that paid the penalty for too many missed chances. Joe France crossed for Matt Lambert to head Handsworth ahead in the first half and after Jamie King produced two terrific saves to keep them in front, Jack Heffren and Ben Shackshaft combined for Matt Jackson to hit their second. They almost had a third with a Carl Bowler free kick, but Bowler was more effective at the other end of the pitch with his partnership with Sam Atkin keeping Steels at bay.

DIV 2- Last gasp Sidebottom strike rescues a point for Anston - Miners Arms took a first half lead at Anston Athletic when the home side didn’t deal with a corner and Ian Francis forced the ball. Miners looked certain to collect their first win since joining the lead when a poor pass was cut out and Robert Shaw fired home their second. Anston reduced the arrears when Tom Gabbitas turned and curled the ball home, but it didn’t look as if was going to be just a consolation until Matt Roebuck’s shot was parried and Gary Sidebottom tapped home the rebound with virtually the last kick of the game.

SUNDAY SENIOR CUP - The Vine go out - Only The Vine had a Round One tie and although they gave a good account of themselves, they went out 2-0 at Arundel Ex-Servicemens. When they fell behind it had been against the run of play as The Vine dominated the first half. Danny Seaman went close, Dan Bateman hit a post and Richard Broad missed a good chance before Arundel put the game out of reach late on.

SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - Junior Blades shock Colley - Fourteen of our clubs made it through to Round Two with Junior Blades following up their Steve Gee Merit Trophy Final victory another good cup win when the Division Two side beat Division One Colley in an all-Blades Super Draw clash in the Sunday Junior Cup. After a goalless first half George Rudd gave the Blades the lead and it was completed when Drew Pearson grabbed his second in as many games, but they needed an excellent save from Dave Marrison to deny Matt Meaney in between.

Crookes & District also had Division One opponents in Old Blue Ball, but their’s was a very different ending as Ball ran out 9-0 winners. Callum Chambers opened the scoring in a congested goalmounth in the fifth minute and two Nat Hannam strikes gave Ball a three goal half time lead. At the start of the second half diminutive midfielder John Morgan hit a stunner from fifteen yards and this was soon folled by a fifth from a Christian Rowe header. John Heritage then added two more before Hannam completed his hat trick with a solo goal and Chambers grabbed his second to complete the scoring. Crookes never gave up trying to play the game in the right manner and Danny Sadler in particular gave a terrific performance, as did referee Anthony Rosssiter.

Division One Ranch also faced Division Two opposition in Chapeltown RBL, but this was a much closer affair and Ranch only went through with a last minute Chris Hall strike. Tom Hartley set his brother Ben up for Ranch’s opener and Adam Hatfield headed a second from Hall’s long throw, but Liam Gibson pulled one back for Chapeltown just before the break. When Chapeltown levelled in the second half with a Sam Walch penalty it looked as if they at least force extra time until a corner in the final minute saw Hall rise highest to head home Ranch’s winner.

The fourth all-Blades Super Draw tie saw Loxley go through at the expense of their fellow Division Two side Cobden View. Loxley’s much changed side opened the scoring in the first half when a long free kick went over the Cobden defence and Geoff Mayfield ran on to beat the keeper. Mick Smith then had a shot saved and Carl Taylor put one over the bar as Loxley looked to extend their lead. Their defence limited Cobden to just a few scares and Loxley sealed it in the final minute when Dominic Ambler played a short corner routine before crossing for Taylor to score the clincher.

Two other Division Two sides to make progress are Fox & Hounds and Phoenix. Doubles from Nicky Shaw and Dan Commander plus one from Jamie Pearce had the game won for Phoenix before their Royal Misfits scored a consolation.. Fox & Hounds fell behind at home to Barnsley’s Commercial Inn, but a Gary West double and a thirty yarder from full back Ian Rumley safely put Fox through.

The Park only got their noses in front at The Royal with a Tony Gurnhill (pictured right) strike in the final minute of the first half, but after the break there was no stopping them and as well as Gurnhill completing his hat-trick, goals from Ryan Dyson, Ian Collins and Calvin Thomas saw The Pak win 6-0.

Oughtibridge Village also kept a clean sheet as goals from Tom Redmond, Jordan Hauge and a Tom Fletcher double gave the a 4-0 victory at Top Club and the victory would have been a lot more emphatic had they not missed a hat full of chances in the first half. Even more impressive was Hemsworth Villa as Alex Yule (pictured left) and Lee Webber kept up their scoring form with two each in a 5-0 victory over Shiregreen. Mark Hopkinson grabbed their other, while Rob Smith was outstanding at the back. Action from the game is shown below.

Despite letting a two goal lead slip at one stage, Niagara also had an impressive victory, 6-2 over Ecclesfield Red Rose. Simon Staniforth and Ben Dronfield grabbed two each while an own goal and one from Ryan Sorby added Niagara’s others. Aston Swallownest found themselves a goal behind at half time at Handsworth Cross keys and it would have been worse had Dan Bentley not saved a penalty. Aston also missed a penalty, but early in the second half Ina Draper hit a real screamer to equalise. They went ahead when they were awarded a second penalty with Ross Edwards making no mistake this time, and victory was sealed when David Sills took advantage of a mistake by the keeper to make the final score 3-1.

John Pedder gave Bradwell Skips the lead against Throstles U21s and although the visitors equalised another Pedder strike had Skips back in front before Chris Slack hit their third. Goals from Joe Walker and John Packman gave Handsworth Old Boys victory over Hollinsend U21s, While Woodhouse Angel joined them in the next round with victory at Bystrany Sheffield. Gareth Simons gave Angel the lead and it was doubled by Matt Parks. Bystrany pulled one back from the penalty spot, but Parks grabbed his second before half time to restore Angel’s two goal lead. Bystrany pulled a second back after the break, but Angel held on.

Of the teams to go out, Sharrow Vale put up the best show and they took Bradway Titans to extra time before losing 7-4. Tom Wray grabbed three and John Matterson the other as they fought back from 4-2 down to force extra time, but the Titans proved too strong in extra time. Despite goals from Danny Clinton and Alex Evison, Players Lounge Athletic never got as close as they went out 7-2 at Sterling Commodities and despite  an Adam Robinson strike Brinsworth Whitehill was also well beaten, 5-1 by FC Spartak.

13 Sep - STEVE GEE MERIT CUP FINAL - Blades just too sharp for Crookes - A Drew Pearson (pictured left celebrating Mo style) strike in the first half proved just enough to give Sheffield United Junior Blades Old Boys victory over Crookes & District and lift the Steve Gee Merit Trophy for the first time. The Blades were first to show and had a chance to take the lead when Jim Allen met a corner, but his header went straight to keeper Tom Garrity, and it was a similar story with Adam Whittaker's volley from another corner.

Crookes responded when Sam Firth's header from a Gareth Morley cross went close, but the goal that was to eventually earn the Blades the cup came soon after. George Rudd's run was only stopped with a foul and when Rudd whipped in the free kick Drew Pearson met it perfectly to give the keeper no chance. The Blades nearly doubled their lead when Nida Luwe's shot was cleared off the line by Mike Hickton and Adam Whittaker fired wide from an Alex Raybould cross. Crookes keeper Garrity then had to come off his line to foil Rudd and Richard Brailey had a shot brilliantly cleared off the line by Jamie Hirst.

Crookes hit back and had a Paul Jackson shot blocked and the Blades keeper Dave Marrison had to be at full stretch to turn away a Mike Dobson free kick. Crookes continued to have the better of things in the second half and a short corner routine gave Michael O'Cain a chance but he blasted over. Marrison then had to turn another free kick away, but he kept his best save until the end when he brilliantly turned away a Chris Cottyn shot to keep his clean sheet and earn the Blades their first trophy. 13 Sep - MACRON CUP - Round Two Draw see holders given tough task - With the help of Colley FC manager Neil Whitworth and referee Phil Jones, the Macron Cup Round Two draw was made at Stocksbridge tonight and it saw Civil Service given a real task if they want to win the trophy for a third consecutive season with a trip to fellow CBC Premier side Queens Ground. The only other all CBC Premier tie sees last season's semi finalists Pitsmoor Royal Oak visit former holders Handsworth Turf. Last season's beaten finalists The Park travel to Cobden View, while last season's other beaten semi finalists The Vine travel to Chapeltown RBL. The full draw is:

All ties to be played on 7 October, except the Stannington Village v Oughtibridge Village tie which will be on 21 October.

9 Sep - CBC PREM - Roper ties Handsworth up to send Southey top - A Jamie Roper treble helped Southey Social to victory at Handsworth Turf and to the top of the table. They are top on goal difference after Bulls Head made it two wins out of two with victory over Stocksbridge Park Steels. The day's biggest surprise came at Redmires where a Ben Palmer (right) strike helped them beat his old club Stannington Village and another old boy to score against his previous club was Ricky Davidson (left), as he grabbed the winner for Civil Service at home to The Vine. A Gavin Davis double helped Pitsmoor Royal Oak gain their first win of the season against Ecclesfield Players Lounge.

Redmires caused the surprise of the day when they beat one of the title favourites Stannington Village and it was ex-Stannington player Ben Palmer that scored the decisive goal. Hegel Moubissie gave Redmires a first half lead when he beat two players before drilling a left foot shot past the keeper and Palmer doubled their lead in the second half. In between Redmires keeper made some vital saves and Dale White turned in a man of the match performance as the Redmires defence held firm until the second minute of added time when a Dean Jepson shot proved too hot for Taylor to handle and Ali Mitchell turned home the rebound, but it proved too little too late.

Another man to put his old mates to the sword was Ricky Davidson as his late goal gave Civil Service victory over his old club The Vine. Andy Bath got the slightest of touches to a Gavin Wills cross to give Service a first half lead and although Chris Hull and Danny Seaman both went close for The Vine, they trailed at the interval. The Vine continued to press after the break and got a deserved equaliser when Seaman crossed for Craig Woolley to power home a header. It looked like The Vine would take a point home with them, but they knew the threat that Davidson poses and he left his old mates heartbroken when he pounced on a rebound to power home Service’s winner.

Southey Social are the early leaders after a Jamie Roper treble helped them to a 5-3 victory at Handsworth Turf. Joe France twice went close for the home side before Roper gave Southey the lead and it was doubled when Turf’s Andy Stevens turned the ball into his own net. John Mellor made it three before half time and although Matt Jackson headed one back for Turf soon after the break, Roper scored the goal of the game to restore Southey’s three goal lead. Roper then completed his hat-trick to as good as seal the points, but they relaxed a bit too much and Ben Shackshaft and Danny Leesley pulled two back for the home side and it could have been even closer had France’s late effort gone in instead of coming back off the woodwork.

In second place is newly promoted Bulls Head after they followed up the sensational opening day victory over current champions Civil Service by coming from behind to beat the champions of the previous season, Stocksbridge Park Steels. Steels dominated the first half and deservedly lad at the interval with a Scott Birch strike, but Bulls Head made more of an impression in the second half and levelled when John Kentzer’s shot took a deflection off Andy Horsfall into the bottom corner. Bulls Head’s winner came when Ali Berry’s long throw created confusion in the area and Tom Nelson turned the ball past his own keeper, although Steels thought they should have a penalty late in the game.

A Gavin davis double helped Pitsmoor Royal Oak to their first win of the season at home against Ecclesfield Players Lounge. Davis and Scott Spjazer combined to set up Callum Hawley to open the scoring from eight yards and a Spjazer flick on allowed Davis to head home their second. Stacey Sharif then crossed for Davis to head his second and give Oak a 3-0 lead. Just before the break, an injury caused James Thew to have to take over in goal and they weren’t quite the same in the second half. Joe Knight and Mark Groves both went close for Ecclesfield before Matt Clarke pulled one back, but they weren’t able to make any further impression on a well drilled Oak defence.

DIV 1 - The Park, Woodhouse Angel and Aston Swallownest make it two out of two - Two Callum Harrison penalties helped The Park to victory over Handsworth Old Boys and a David Sills double helped Aston Swallownest to a home win over Ranch (action from the game is right), while a real cracker from Gareth Simons set Woodhouse Angel on the way to victory over Old Blue Ball. Despite playing second fiddle to Colley for the first hour of the game an Alex Yule double helped Hemsworth Villa to a five goal victory and a Lee Smith double helped Oughtibridge Village to victory at Bradwell Skips, while Simon Staniforth's goal for Niagara saw them collect the points at Hollin Bush.

The Park are the early leaders of Division One after their narrow victory over Handsworth Old Boys. The Park took the lead when a deliberate handball saw a penalty awarded and Callum Harrison confidently put the spot kick away. To make matters worse for Handsworth the defender was dismissed, but they didn’t seem to let it bother them too much and levelled before the break when Greg Burgin headed home. The Park’s winner came just five minutes into the second half when Harrison again scored from the spot after The Park were awarded a second penalty.

In second place is Woodhouse Angel after a Gareth Simons super-strike and a Kirk Briddon solo goal gave them a 2-0 victory over an Old Blue Ball that missed a number of chances to get back into the game. Third place is held by Aston Swallownest after a David Sills double helped them to a 3-0 victory over Ranch. Both of Sills goals came in the first half, but it was by no means one way traffic and the Aston keeper needed to be at his best a few times to keep his side’s lead. The second half saw Ranch’s veteran centre backs Ian Cooper and Steve Batty deal well with most of what Aston threw at them, but Ian Draper finally ended his goal drought when he tapped home Aston’s third after twice being denied by Ranch keeper Mark Broadhurst. More action from the game is below.

Hemsworth Villa are fourth after they beat Colley 5-0, but it was a very cruel scoreline on the visitors after they had dominated the play for an hour and only a couple of saves by Villa keeper had stopped them taking a first half lead. The nearest Villa came was when Lee Webber hit a post and when Villa did go in front it was Webber that set up Alex Yule to score in off the post. That seemed to open the floodgates and Yule soon added a second before Webber netted from a John Smith throw-in. Pete Burgin then added a fourth and a fifth came when a clearance by the keeper rebounded into the net off Mark Hopkinson. Action from the game is below.

A Lee Smith double helped Oughtibridge Village to their first win of the season, 4-1 at Bradwell Skips. Justin Westoby set Smith up for his first before Sean Middleton added a second. Smith’s second then came from the penalty spot before man-of-the-match Westoby added Village’s fourth. Skips only reply came from Mark Grayson. Niagara also gained their first win of the season when Paul Cadman set Simon Staniforth up to score the only goal of the game at Hollin Bush.

DIV 2 - Phoenix find new Commander, but Oaks Rich form keeps them top - A Dan Commander treble helped Phoenix to a big win over fellow new boys Miners Arms, but Norton Oaks stay top as a Rich Gilham double helps them to victory at Loxley. An Adam Robinson double helped Brinsworth Whitehill to their first win of the season at Sharrow Vale, while a Dan Potts strike helped Players Lounge Athletic to a share of the spoils after being 3-1 down at Cobden View. Rob Portman's goal earned Chapeltown RBL a point at home against Crookes & District, while a Jordan Smith goal did the same for Anston Athletic at Fox & Hounds.

League newcomers Norton Oaks are top of Division Two with three wins out of three after a Rich Gilham double helped them to a 3-1 victory at Loxley. Mark Turton and Coel Fulton provided the assists for Gilhams to give Oaks a two goal lead and although Tim Pitt pulled one back for the home side, Andy Dawson left Pitt for dead before racing through to restore their two goal lead before the break. Lewis Armstrong did his best to get Loxley back into the game in the second half, but the Oaks defence was rarely in trouble.

Another newcomer, Phoenix, are in second place after a commanding performance saw them beat another newcomer, Miners Arms, 7-2. Daniel McLean even gave Miners the lead in the tenth minute, but once Nicky Shaw smashed home an equaliser from forty yards, Phoenix never looked back. Shaw scored a second and Karl Fox also grabbed a brace, but they were outdone by Dan Commander who helped himself to a hat-trick. McLean also netted Miners other goal.

Brinsworth Whitehill also had to come from behind to win 4-1 at Sharrow Vale. John Matterson headed a corner home to put Vale in front, but a long ball found Adam Robinson to level before the break. The second half saw Brinsworth stamp their authority on the game as Robinson added another along with goals from Jed McGowan and Michael Hare.

Cobden View are third, but they lost their perfect record when they twice let the lead slip before drawing 3-3 with a Players Lounge Athletic that never gave up. Mike Walker gave Cobden a first half lead only to see it cancelled out by an own goal two minutes after the break. Substitute Alex Butt raced clear to put Cobden back in front and the game looked to be won when Dan Skidmore scored from the spot after he had been brought down in the area. Players Lounge had other ideas though and when Michael Pearce gave the ball to Danny Clinton, he used his pace to get past the defenders and score. They continued to pour forward and got a deserved equaliser when Scott Marcus crossed for Dan Potts to drill home.

Fox & Hounds also let a lead and their perfect record slip when drawing 1-1 with Anston Athletic. The start of the game was marred when Gavin Flanagan suffered what appeared to be a broken leg, but after a lengthy delay the two sides and referee Mark Bell decided to continue. Fox led at half time with a Rob Acheson goal, but Anston fought back after the break and earned a deserved point when Adam Russell set Jordan Smith up for the equaliser.

Crookes & District took the lead at Chapeltown RBL when Mike Dobson’s low cross was dispatched into the bottom left hand corner by Johnnie Butler, but Chapeltown levelled just three minutes into the second half with a Rob Portman strike and driven on by Craig Short they nearly won it near the end when Liam Gibson’s overhead kick went just wide.

6 Sep - DIV 2 - Oaks cut Blades down, while Fox treble helps Phoenix fly - Norton Oaks made it two wins out of two with a 7-1 demolition of Junior Blades to go to the top of the table. Although Adam Hardwick scored the goal of the game from inside his own half for the Blades, Norton was simply too strong for the home side and doubles for Scott Stringer and Mark Turton along with Jamie Marshall's second in as many games and one each for Coel Fulton and Steve Scott emphasised the gulf between the teams. Had it not been for Dave Marrison in the Blades net it might have been even more emphatic.

The night's other game was a much closer affair with newcomers Phoenix gaining their first three points with a 5-3 win at Players Lounge Athletic. The home side started well and went a goal in front when Anthony Holes' shot from the edge of the are could only be parried by the Phoenix keeper and Alex Evison was first to the loose ball to score. The lead didn't last long though and Phoenix levelled with a Nicky Shaw free kick. Shaw then turned provider for Karl Fox to score his first to give Phoenix a half time lead.

After the break, Fox extended Phoenix's lead with the goal of the game from the edge of the box and Ross Brown made it four when he latched onto a loose ball in the area. Players Lounge responded when two new signings, Dale Watts and Danny Clinton combined for Clinton to score with a good finish, but Phoenix stopped any thoughts of a comeback when Fox completed his hat-trick. Players did grab a third near the end when Clinton was brought down in the area and he dusted himself off to score from the spot, but it was Phoenix that gained the deserved victory.

4 Sep - DIV 2 - Cobden get a View from the top - League newcomers went to the top of the early table with a 5-2 victory at Crookes & District. Paul Griffiths lobbed the keeper from 30 yards to give Cobden the lead, but he went from hero to villain before half time when he brought Johnnie Butler down in the area and Chris Cottyn levelled from the spot. Two goals soon after the break turned the game Cobden's way, with Karl Scanlan scrambling the ball home from a corner before Andy Jakubowski did the same when the Crookes keeper let the ball slip from his grasp.

Cottyn then grabbed his second of the game to bring Crookes back into it, but Cobden restored their two goal advantage when Mike Walker ran half the length of the pitch before passing to man of the match Dan Skidmore to sidefoot home. Walker then completed the scoring when he took a throw-in in his stride before turning and hitting an unstoppable shot in off the underside of the bar.

2 Sep - CBC PREM - Service gored by Bulls Head - Newly promoted Bulls Head celebrated their first ever game in the top flight by defeating last season's double winners Sheffield Civil Service and they were full value for their victory. Service started the brighter of the two and probably should have taken the lead when Gavin Wills cross found the head of Andy Bath, but he put his effort wide. Service quickly paid for it when Mark Bryant's free kick struck the wall, but fell kindly for Tom Cocker and although he slightly mishit his shot, it took a deflection to go past Carl Whitby in the Service net.

Service tried to respond and looked to have levelled when Gavin Wills hit a screamer from thirty yards, but it struck the bar and was cleared. Gaz Griffiths then fluffed a chance to level and Bulls Head went in the break in front. The second half saw Bulls Head come out much the quicker of the two and when Matt Coates floated in a free kick it was met by Phil Jenkins to volley home their second. That was quickly followed by a third as Lee Smith's right foot shot found the net and after losing just one game in all of last season, Service new it looked like they were going to equal that after just one game.

Like champions, Service finally found a response and a Connor Bamford cross was headed home by full back Chris Fowler and when Fowler found the net a second time from a Wes Bamford cross it looked like they might just avoid defeat, but with everyone pushed forward they were open to a quick break and when Jordan Barton raced into space he played a perfect ball into the path of Nick Ash and Bulls victory was assured.

Queens Ground also won their first game in the top flight at Handsworth Turf and they had to come from behind to get it (action from the game is shown right and below). The first half was a fairly even affair until Mark Jones fed the ball to Danny Leesley and produced a sublime finish from thirty yards to give Turf a half time lead. Queens Ground quickly too the game to their hosts after the break and when Robert Pratt conceded a penalty, Reece Burkinshaw stepped up to beat Jamie King in the Turf goal.

Nat Foster was a constant thorn in Turf's side and when he received the ball just inside the Turf half he turned and beat two men before thrashing the ball past King to put Queens ahead. Turf tried to respond, but they couldn't find a way past a resolute Queens defence and it was the visitors that looked likely to add to their score, particularly when Foster played the ball to Richard Honeyman inside the six yard box, but he left his team mates speechless by providing a miss that will be hard to beat. It didn't matter though as Queens held on for the points.

There was no mistake by Stannington Village as they brushed Ecclesfield Players Lounge aside with a five star show. Lee Johnstone put Stannington ahead and that lead was doubled when Ecclesfield Craig Senior put the ball into his own net. Ecclesfield should have pulled one back when they were awarded a penalty, but the normally reliable Ryan Keeney blasted over before Joe Barker found Ali Mitchell and after he chested the ball down he marked his return to Village with a trademark strike to give them a three goal interval lead.

After the break, Mark Rhodes pulled one back for Ecclesfield, only for Dean Jepson to restore Village's three goal advantage. Senior then made amends for his earlier error by hitting Ecclesfield's second, but any thoughts of a comeback were quickly dispelled when Shaun Flynn cut through the visitors defence to hit Stannington's fifth.

Pitsmoor Royal Oak and Southey Social produced a real thriller and it took a very late Joel Askham goal gave to eventually send Southey Social home with the points. It took just thirty seconds for john Mellor to produce a cool finish to give Southey the lead and they were two up in ten minutes when Jamie Roper marked his Southey debut by cutting inside and firing home. Pitsmoor pulled one back before half time when the Southey keeper couldn't hold Callum Hawley's free kick, but soon after the interval Danny Lindley linked up with Mellor before scoring Southey's third. Pitsmoor hit back again when Gavin Davis raced clear to score and they equalised when Scott Spjazer found the net, but just when it looked as if they would take a point another of Southey's debutants, Joel Askham, floated in a cross that eluded everyone before finding the net.

The day's other top flight game was much less eventful and just s single Danny Seaman goal gave The Vine victory at Redmires. Both sides had chances in the first half, but only Seaman could take his and The Vine held on to the points in a second half that saw defences in control.

DIV 1 - Doubles all round as Bradwell Skips and The Park both hit five  -

A Marlon Catwell double helped Bradwell Skips to their best ever start with a five goal victory over Ranch. Chris Slack started things off and Oliver West and Nick Wells extended that lead to three before half time. Ranch simply never got going and Bradwell continued to dominate, so it was no surprise that Catwell added two more in the second half.

A Callum Harrison double did the same for The Park against fellow newly promoted side Oughtibridge Village. A tight first half looked likely to end goalless until Dan Burnell's cross was turned into his own net by Buckley under pressure from Lewis Stokes. The second half started even again, but once Callum Harrison scored a second for The Park after the Oughtibridge keeper gave a penalty away, The Park took control. Harrison gambled on getting to a loose ball to touch the ball pas the keeper for The Park's third and Mark Townsend fired home a fourth before Calvin Thomas forced home a fifth.

A Matt Parks double saw Woodhouse Angel off to a winning start at home against Colley. Jamie Boardman gave Angel the lead only to see Colley level when Josh Connor got on the end of a free kick that had been flicked on. Parks soon restored Angel's lead when he found space to head home and he grabbed his second before the break. Colley rarely looked like getting back into it after the break and it was Angel that might have had many more, but they settled for just another one from Gareth Simons.

Aston Swallownest just missed out on promotion last season and they got just the start they wanted as a Josh Bell double helped them come from behind to beat Niagara. David Sills had given Aston a half time lead, but the second half saw Paul Cadman cancel it out before James Shepherd's through ball allowed Craig Foster to lob the advancing keeper to put Niagara ahead. Aston dug deep and Bell got on the end of a cross to head home their equaliser and when Ryan Sorby gave away a penalty, Bell stepped up to give Aston all three points.

Hemsworth Villa's bid for a quick return to the top flight got off to a stuttering start and they had to settle for a point at home against newly promoted Hollin Bush. It looked good for Villa when Russ Wesby crossed for Alex Yule to put them in front, but Bush responded and Alan Lam had them level by half time. Both teams had chances to win it in the second half, the best of which came right at the end when Lee Webber missed with a header on his return to Villa. Action from the game is shown right and below.

DIV 2 - Marshall gets Norton off to a flier and Fox & Hounds also off to a winning start -

A Jamie Marshall double helped Norton Oaks to victory over fellow League newcomers Miners Arms. Both sides were anxious to get their first ever League campaign off to a good start and it was Oaks that grabbed the advantage when Tom Walsh's corner was tapped home by Mark Turton. Ashley Holland then played the ball up for Marshall to spin and beat the keeper, but Miners got themselves back into it with a Daniel McLean strike after Oaks keeper Jamie Hallatt dropped a long throw-in at his feet. Miners came on strong in the second half, but with Matt Ilett solid as a rock for Norton, the visitors couldn't break through again and it was Norton that completed the scoring when another Holland cross was flicked home by Marshall.

Fox & Hounds found goals hard to come by last season, but they found three this time to just hold on against Sharrow Vale. Lewis Turton put Fox ahead and Gary West doubled their lead and although Mel Firth pulled one back with a free header before half time, Richard Firth restored Fox's two goal lead with a second half header. Fox was forced to hold on though after Primhak volleyed a second for Vale.

MACRON CUP - There's no place like home as the Cup provides goals galore -

Newcomers Cobden View and Phoenix joined Chapeltown RBL and Loxley in the next round  of the Macron Cup as the four ties produced twenty four goals and four home wins. Cobden View took the lead against Anston Athletic when Dan Skidmore headed Andy Jakubowski's long throw home and they increased it in the second half when Paul Griffiths set Mike Walker up to score. Another long throw fell to Karl Scanlan to volley home. Anston showed they weren't out of it though and when Mark Reaney brought Ben Sargeant down in the area, Matt Roebuck put away the penalty. Anston then pressed for another, but the Cobden defence held firm.

Phoenix got off to the perfect start when Nicky Shaw's glancing header gave them a second minute lead at home against Crookes & District. Ross Brown grabbed a second after just ten minutes and Karl Fox added a third against his old club just before the break. Crookes hit back in the second half and after Paul Jackson won a penalty, Chris Cottyn scored from the spot. Mike Dobson quickly added a second for Crookes, but Nathan Darling again gave Phoenix some breathing space when he added their fourth. They needed it as well as Crookes kept coming at them and Cottyn grabbed his second to leave the home side hanging on at the end.

Another seven goal thriller saw Chapeltown RBL just pip Brinsworth Whitehill. Sam Walch, Liam Gibson, Andy Hodkin and Rob Portman were all on target for the home side, but a Joe McGuiness strike and two from Adam Robinson almost took the game to extra time. The other tie did need extra time though as Loxley finally overcame Junior Blades 4-2. Tom Higginbottom found the bottom corner to give the Blades the lead and things were going their way as Steve Mayfield missed the chance to equalise from the spot after a penalty was awarded for handball. Loxley did manage to level before half time though when skipper Tim Pitt's free kick got the slightest of touches of Steve Nash's back on its way into the net.

Mayfield atoned for his penalty miss by setting up Steve Kelly to give Loxley the lead, but the Blades hit back when Dick Pearson took advantage of an Alex Armstrong error to force extra time. The Blades hit the bar in extra time, but it was Loxley that went back in front when another handball in the area allowed Pitt to score from the spot and Mayfield finally got his name on the score sheet to clinch Loxley's place in Round Two.

31 Aug- The season starts this weekend when all five substitutes can be used on a roll-on, roll-off basis - It's the start of the season this weekend, when clubs will be able to use up to five substitutes on a roll-on, roll-off basis. Make sure your referees are aware of this and make sure you follow the normal substitution guidelines - ie you can only make a change when the ball goes out of play and you can only make the change with the referees permission. The player coming on should not do so until the player going off has left the pitch and all substitutions should be done on the half way line. Make sure your teamsheets clearly show which players are the substitutes at the start of the game.

Any player that has been substituted will now be allowed to return to the action later in the game and they can do this as many times as necessary. This use of up to five substitutes applies to all our League and Macron Cup games and to our Merit Cup Final. It will also apply in both the Sunday Senior Cup and Sunday Junior Cup competitions. For any Cup games that go all the way to a penalty shoot-out, only the players on the field of play at the final whistle are allowed to take penalties - as per normal FIFA guidelines.

Please make sure you follow these brief guidelines and make sure you play the game. Referees have been instructed to take action if they think a team is deliberately trying to disrupt play by making constant substitutions - this action could include cautions for players and / or reports of clubs for unsporting conduct. We will be asking for feedback from officials and clubs alike.

Let's do our best to make this work - it can only benefit your club and its players. Good luck for the season ahead to everyone involved.

22 Aug- Ben calls it a day - Ecclesfield Players Lounge will start the season without the services of defender Ben Hill. Ben broke his leg in two places in first game of last season and taken the decision that is too bigger risk to continue and has retired. After signing in 2000-2001, Ben was been a great servant for Ecclesfield for over 10 years, playing 231 times and scoring 31 goals - a good return for a defender with his 6ft+ frame always a danger from corners. He was the perfect Sunday player to manage, always turned up, never let you down and was a major factor in Ecclesfield’s success in cup and league wins over years. Although not the quickest of players, he had the brain to be in right place at the right time and didn’t lose much in the air. All his team mates wish a popular player all the best but some will be relieved as the changing room will now be a safer place.

20 Aug- Crookes & District get reward - After going the whole of last season without collecting a single disciplinary point, Crookes & District were rewarded as the League gave them a full refund on this season's League fees. It was a richly deserved reward for a club that always plays the game in the right spirit and to further encourage the right behaviour standards the League will look to extend these rewards to other clubs with very good disciplinary records.

19 Aug- September Fixtures now shown - The September Fixtures are now listed, please confirm them with your referee and your opponents ASAP. Referees will be allocated to the midweek games after we know which games are going to be played. This will bring the number of teams in both the CBC Premier and Division One to 12. The fixture grid has been amended to reflect the change. It means that the opening day of the season will see Stannington Village now entertain Ecclesfield Players Lounge in the CBC Premier, while in Division One it means that, at the moment, both Niagara and Old Blue Ball do not have a game - unless one of them can find a pitch, or they consider an afternoon kick-off if one of their pitches is available in the afternoon - if Ball and Niagara can fix something, please let Keith know.

15 JULY - Three Spartans become GB internationals and come home with Silver - Not many local players can say they have represented Great Britain at football, but three of the Spartans can now boast that achievement after they became Great Britain internationals when they were selected to play for the GB Special Olympics squad that took part in a tournament in Denmark.

Sam Hayward, Paul Stylianou and Niall Guite, pictured left with their helper John Hunt, all made their GB debuts in the tournament and well as the host country, GB were joined by Russia, Switzerland, Belgium, Hungary, Malta, Iceland and Poland, but a terrific effort by all the squad saw the Spartans and their team mates come home with Silver Medals. Pictured left is Paul Stylianou turning after scoring from close range. For more pictures, click on the Spartans icon above.

10 JULY - Crookes take the silver from the Robin Hood Cup - Crookes & District went to the Robin Hood 7-a-side Cup held at Arnold Town FC and after an eventful day produced a remarkable performance to reach the final, but had to settle for the Runners-up trophy after a 1-0 defeat. The drama started when Mike Hickton had an accident on the way to the tournament and was unable to take part and Greg Mclennan and Ben Stittle made last minute dashes to get to the ground by car and train. It meant that they along with Paul Jackson, Jonnie Butler, David Elliott, Matt Garnett and Chris Cottyn had to play every minute of every game and it was fatigue that probably cost them victory in the final. After the games they celebrated their efforts with a long weekend at Centre Parcs. Pictured is the squad with their medals.

10 JULY - Division One Fixture Grid change for Aston Swallownest - Aston Swallownest have been moved from number 9 on the fixtures grid to number 13. The change is to avoid any potential clashes with a team that is now sharing with them. It means that the opening day of the season will now see Aston Swallownest entertain newly promoted Oughtibridge Village, while Niagara will now not have a fixture - unless any further changes are required!! The grid below has been changed to reflect this.

4 JULY - The Fixture Grid for the 2012-13 Season is published - When the new season kicks-off on Sunday 2 September the match of the day  will see the CBC Premier and Macron Cup double winners Civil Service entertain last season's third place team The Vine, while last season's Runners-up Stannington Village entertain Laycock Sports. Last season's Division One champions, Bulls Head, start life in the CBC Premier with a home game against Redmires, while the other newly promoted sides, Queens Ground, at Handsworth Turf, and Fairbank-Rhodes, at home against Southey Social, will both look to get off to good starts. The final CBC Premier game sees Pitsmoor Royal Oak entertain Stocksbridge Park Steels.

In Division One relegated Ecclesfield Players Lounge and Hemsworth Villa start their campaigns at home against promoted Old Blue Ball and Hollin Bush, while last season's Division 2 champions The Park entertain a Handsworth Old Boys side that came up with them. Woodhouse Angel entertain Colley FC, Throstles entertain Ranch and Aston Swallownest entertain Niagara Oughtibridge Village.

The Division Two clubs will all be involved in the Round 1 of the League Macron Cup on the opening day of the season with Miners Arms travelling to fellow newcomers Norton Oaks. The other ties are: Fox & Hounds v Sharrow Vale; Chapeltown RBL v Brinsworth Whitehill; Cobden View v Anston Athletic; Phoenix v Crookes & District; Loxley v Players Lounge Athletic.

The full grid for the season and notes to go with it is shown in below - all clubs must make sure the people they hire they ground from are notified of all the dates they are scheduled to be at home - even if it shows them playing a 'spare' number, as you might still be given a fixture that day. Please read and take note of all the notes with the fixture grid. All clubs will receive a copy of the fixture grid and the notes by email as well.

The above grid should be used mainly as a guide as to when you will be playing at home or away.  Make sure you tell the people you hire your ground from all the dates the grid shows you are scheduled to play at home – including the dates you are due to be at home against a spare number.

All Fixtures could be subject to change each month to fill in the gaps left by the teams playing either the ‘Spare’ numbers or playing in cup ties - UNLESS NOTIFIED OTHERWISE, YOU SHOULD ASSUME THAT YOU WILL HAVE A GAME EVERY WEEK – even when it shows you playing the spare number. If you do not want a game in a particular week you should give at least 6 weeks notice to the Fixtures Secretary – we will try to accommodate your request, but it is not guaranteed.

All the Division Two, games listed for the first week of the season will become League Cup ties. This will reduce the number of teams left in the cup to 32, ready for the next round.

We think it is advisable that teams play the games listed for midweek on 6 Sept, but we will not insist on it. If either team does not want to play the game, we will allow it to be postponed, but remember you may still have to play it in midweek at the end of the season instead. Anyone not wanting to play this midweek fixture MUST notify their opponents and the League no later than 6 August.

The fixtures on the first Sunday in October and the first Sunday in November shown above may be used as the framework for the League Cup draw, ie teams due to have a home game will go into the home half of the cup draw, teams due to play away will go into the away half of the cup draw. Teams not sharing pitches may be moved from one half of the draw to the other if required.
