25 Sept 2011 - Don't forget the meeting on Monday 26 September -  It's the next League meeting at Bramall Lane on Monday 26 September at 7.30pm. All clubs to attend.

25 Sept 2011 - October Fixtures now listed -  The October Fixtures and referees are now listed. Please make sure that home clubs have confirmed the dates with the people that manage your pitch and with the referee and your opponents immediately.

25 Sept 2011 - Handsworth sign new deal -  After many years running as Handsworth WMC, it was all change this season as the team is now running from the Turf Tavern pub in Handsworth and the team is now known as FC Handsworth Turf. The club is grateful to the support from Martin & Jane Hull of the Turf Tavern. The club also thanks business partners Eddie Holmes and Ryan Hattersley of Aspect Energy Management Ltd as they have agreed to sponsor them for a 3rd season. The club has also secured a further new sponsor, Bramhalls Body Repair & MOT Centre (which is situated at Unit 1A, Orgreave Crescent, Handsworth, S13 9NO. telephone Phil Bramhall for all enquiries on 0114 254 8081). Pictured is Phil Bramhall (left) with FC Handsworth Turf manager Adam Johnson.

25 Sept 2011 - CBC Premier - Super Mario and Handy Andy get Handsworth up and running -  Handsworth Turf celebrated their new sponsorship deal with Bramhalls Body Repair & MOT Centre at Handsworth with their first CBC Premier win of the season, 5-1 at Redmires. After a super Mario Esposito opener for Turf, Redmires levelled before half time through Dale White, but after the break Andy Stevens (pictured right) created a real landmark for Handsworth by netting for them for the fourteenth consecutive season. Joe France then set Jack Hall up for a third and Hall slid in to hit his second soon after, before James Leesley completed the scoring in a game well refereed by Bob Martin.

The top three all won again to make it five wins out of five, with Stannington Village staying top by thumping Hemsworth Villa 7-3. A Sean Flynn corner was headed home by Dean Jepson to give Village the lead and Joe Barker and Lee Johnstone added others before new Villa skipper Alex Yule pulled one back before half time. Jepson added his second soon after the break, but Villa responded when John Richardson scored at the near post. Johnstone added his second to snuff out Villa’s chances of a revival and Jack Mylnek added two tap-ins before Russ Westby scored a third for Villa with the best goal of the game.

Second is Civil Service after seeing off League champions Stocksbridge Park Steels 3-0. Only Service keeper Carl Whitby’s fingertip save kept the sides level in the first half, but once Adam Firth’s free kick had given Service the lead they never looked like losing it and Gavin Wills added a second before Gareth Griffiths headed a third, leaving the champions still looking for their first point of the season.

Third is newly promoted The Vine after they twice came from behind to beat Yew Tree 3-2. Phil Cookson’s through ball allowed Steve Gordon to put Tree ahead, but Vine levelled when Danny Seaman’s corner flew straight into the net. Tree went back in front after the break when Gordon’s long throw was dropped by Vine’s stand-in keeper Chris Shirtcille and Ryan Cockayne pounced to slot home, but Vine levelled a second time with a Jamie Moore header and then won it with Tom Moynahan’s first ever goal for the club.

Another newly promoted club is fourth after Southey Social made it three wins out of four with a 4-2 victory over Pitsmoor Royal Oak. Shane Toulson marked his Southey debut with the opener before Simon Jebson added a brace. Andre Jackson tapped home a fourth before a late rally from Oak saw Scott Spjazer and Luke Fletcher both find the net.

Fifth is Laycock Sports after Nick Owen celebrated his surprise switch from Hemsworth Villa by bagging both goals in a 2-0 over Ecclesfield Players Lounge. Owen’s first was a free kick from outside the box and his second came near the end after Laycock’s keeper Chris Gill had made two important stops. Ecclesfield’s stand-in keeper Scott Kelly also kept his side in it and although they had a few chances, injuries restricted their options.

Div 1 - Bonnick treble as Throstles hit back to win -  Throstles made it two consecutive wins when Liam Bonnick’s hat trick saw them come from two down to beat Fairbank-Rhodes 3-2. It looked like plain sailing for Fairbank when their man-of-the-match Joe Knight’s double put them two up, but once Bonnick got into his stride there was no stopping him.

Danny Bainbridge was another hat-trick hero as Niagara beat Woodhouse Angel 3-1. His first came from the penalty spot after Craig Foster had been felled and after Angel hadMissed two good chances to level, Bainbridge showed them how to finish to double Niagara’s lead. Gareth Simons’ header reduced the arrears after the break, but Bainbridge made the win safe after finding himself one-on-one with the keeper.

Nathaniel Foster is the first player to reach double figures when he scored three or more for the third time this season in Queens Ground's 7-1 victory over Brinsworth Whitehill. It was over as a contest by half time after Foster’s treble, an Ada Tomlin double and one from Gareth Hague in the first half. Brinsworth had netted once through Russell Sheridan and did much better after the break and restricted Queens to just one more from Delano Jones.

An Ian Draper double helped Aston Swallownest narrow win over Loxley and get their promotion challenge back on track. Draper first was cancelled out by Geoff Mayfield, but Draper then beat the offside trap to put Aston back in front by half time. With Loxley’s Nick Cardin putting in yet another man-of-the-match performance they deservedly levelled with a Lewis Armstrong header and Jason Jones went close to giving them the lead, but victory went to Aston when Draper turned provider when he unselfishly squared the ball for Ross Edwards to smash home the winner.

Lee Campbell also hit two in Colley's 2-1 win at Ranch, but it was the team’s performance that pleased manager Neil Whitworth. Campbell netted once in each half before Richard Berry, who had earlier hit the bar, headed home Carl Pierce’s flick on.

Leaders Bulls Head followed up their Merit Cup victory with a narrow win at Anston Athletic. Mark Bryant put them ahead and Kerry Dixon headed a second before half time, but Anston hit back straight from the re-start when Jamie Harrison headed home. Simon Turner then hit the bar and Simon Herberts missed a good chance to level before Alan Mowforth gave Bull some breathing space. They needed it as Michael Smith hit a second for Anston and had the leaders hanging on at the end.

Div 2 - Langford goal leaves Sharrow feeling bonnie -  Sharrow Vale became the first newcomer to take any points in Division Two this season, when they twice came from behind to beat Junior Blades 3-2 with a Micky Langford goal on his debut. A Tom Wray strike was sandwiched between the two Dick Pearson goals that gave the Blades a half time lead, but Vale dug deep after the break and after Ivan Merrill had levelled, Langford struck for that first win.

Lee Bridges put leaders Oughtibridge Village in front at home in their ‘derby’ with Old Harrow Grenoside, but it looked like they might slip to a first defeat when Mitchell Edwards set Jordan Broadbent up for an equaliser and Richard Costello put Lee Wasden in to put Old Harrow in front in the second half. Costello also had a good penalty appeal turned down, but the leaders levelled with Bridges second and won it with a Marcus Pass (pictured right) wonder goal.

Although they led by just a Josh Ransom goal at half time, when The Park changed up a gear in the second half their hosts Chapeltown RBL couldn’t cope and as well as a Jack Ridge strike, Mark Townsend and Dan Robinson both hit doubles before Tom Hodgson netted a late equaliser for Chapeltown.

Although Owen Clarke and Rob Clowes also hit doubles in Hollin Bush’s 5-1 victory at Colley WMC, it was keeper Neil Hawley (pictured left) that stole the limelight with his third penalty save in as many matches. It was also a red-letter day for Colley’s Lee Flanaghan as his consolation goal was his first for twelve years.

Despite fighting back from two goals down, Crookes & District lost ground when they slipped to defeat at home to Highfield Old Crown.Craig Smith’s lob and a Tom Scott header put Crown two up by the break, but Crookes roared back to level through Chris Cottyn and Mike Dobson. All Crookes’ good work though was undone by Stuart Underwood’s late winner for Crown.

Old Blue Ball has still to concede a goal after a goalless draw at Handsworth Old Boys, and although both sides lost their perfect records, both will be pleased to remain unbeaten. Joe Totty almost grabbed a winner for Handsworth but it would have been harsh on Ball’s man-of-the-match Reece McAndless.

22 Sept 2011 - Bulls Head triumph in Steve Gee Merit Cup -  After Kerry Dixon had drilled home an equaliser, Alan Mowforth (pictured left) scored the type of goal worthy of winning any game as Bulls Head just came out on top in a good quality Steve Gee Merit Cup Final against fellow Division One rivals Niagara.

After a start that saw both teams getting used to the big Stocksbridge Park Steels pitch it was Bulls Head that had the early chances, but last season's leading scorer missed an absolute sitter when he put the ball over the bar from little more than a yard out. Niagara's confidence grew after that and they began to take the game to Bulls Head and after a succession of corners, when the ball came out to Daniel Campbell his well placed shot skipped off the top of a defender into the top corner. Ash then missed another chance and Niagara went into the interval in front.

The second half saw Niagara looking for a second and after Danny Bainbridge's header was well saved, he looked certain to get it when he went round the keeper, but his shot came back off the post. Bulls Heaed started to have more of the ball and after some pressure the ball came out to Kerry Dixon on the edge of the area and his low shot flew through the crowd of players into the bottom corner.

Bulls Head were on top now and Joe Keighley looked certain to add a second, but his header came back off the bar. Niagara reacted and Bainbridge fired just wide, but it was Bulls Head that got the decisive second when the ball fell to Bulls man-of-the-match Alan Mowforth on the edge of the area he produced a step-over to leave a defender for dead before bending a great shot round the keeper into the net.

With their man-of-the-match Tom Staniforth driving them forward, Niagara did their best to grab the equaliser and Cooper headed wide, Bainbridge hit the side netting, but Bulls Head somehow managed to hold on until referee Matt Tyers final whistle. A final word for the officials referee Matt Tyers and his assistants, James Bell and Dennis Williams as they did a great job in a match that saw two sides play flat out without the need for any cards of any colour.

Teams: Bulls Head: Neil Gasgoine, Joe Windle, Kerry Dixon, Robert Dowber, John Marples, Tom Cocker, Matt Coates, Mark Bryant, Nick Ash, Alan Mowforth, John Kentzer. Subs: John Ward, Lee Smith, Joe Keighley, Matt Wilson, Phil Jenkins.

18 Sept 2011 - Steve Gee Merit Cup Final Thursday 22 September -  Don't forget it is the Steve Gee Merit Cup Final next week, on Thursday 22 Sept at Stocksbridge Park Steels Look Local stadium, kick off 7.00pm, when Bulls Head will face Niagara. Admission is free - please come along and support the teams.

18 Sept 2011 - CBC Premier - Redmires Knagged to first win, but Dean keeps Village on top -  Dave Knaggs (pictured right) hit all his side's four goals as Redmires collected their first win of the season in a real seven goal thriller with Hemsworth Villa. Two instinctive strikes allowed Knaggs to put Redmires two up early on and although Nick Owen pulled one back for Villa, a penalty allowed Knaggs to complete his hat-trick before the break. The second half saw Matt Bray provide a second for Owen before Alex Yule set up Liam Pigott for an equaliser, but Villa were caught out by a ball over their defence and Knaggs grabbed his fourth to give Redmires their first victory back in the CBC Premier. Action from the game is below

Three teams still have maximum points in the CBC Premier with Stannington Village standing top of the pile after crushing Ecclesfield Players Lounge 7-2. A Dean Jepson treble and one from Luke Fairbrother gave Village a 4-0 half time lead and although Craig Senior pulled two back for the home side after the break, a Sean Flynn free kick, a Jon Wall strike and a Lee Johnstone penalty meant that Village were always in control.

The Vine's victory at Stocksbridge Park Steels may have looked less impressive, but it wasn’t without its moments. Rikki Davidson surged through the Steels defence to hit the game’s only goal midway through the first half, but The Vine had to reshuffle after their keeper James Marshall was injured and Chris Shirtcliffe had to take over. He showed he was no slouch between the sticks though and earned his side's third clean sheet out of four games by saving Adam Todd’s penalty late on and give his side revenge for last season’s Macron Cup semi final defeat by Steels.

After sub Adam Firth was brought down in the box, a single Danny Fowler penalty at Pitsmoor Royal Oak was also enough for Civil Service to maintain their perfect start and take their record to just one defeat in their last seventeen games. It was a hard fought game though and although they had a few half chances, Oak couldn’t get the equaliser.

An Alex Napier double helped Laycock Sports to victory at Yew Tree and keep their early season form going. Sam Read set up Napier’s first to give the visitors a half time lead. Sub Ryan Cockayne set up fellow sub Harry O’Neill to score his first goal for Yew Tree to level, but Napier had an easy tap-in at the back post to restore Laycock’s lead. Will Earle then beat the offside trap to increase their lead and although O’Neill set Cockayne up to pull one back, Chris Gill's safe handling in goal and a terrific save from a Cockayne shot, together with Tom Brightmore’s assured display at the heart of the Laycock defence kept their lead in tact. The first picture shows Harry O'Neill celebrating his first ever goal for Yew Tree. (note from Keith - Is this the same Harry O'Neill I know?)

John Mellor scored for a second week running to help Southey Social to their first away win at Handsworth Turf. Turf almost took the lead when a Mario Esposito shot hit both posts before it was cleared and it was Southey that took the lead when Mellor headed home a corner. Esposito levelled before the break though and almost gave Turf the lead. Carl Bowler then had a header cleared off the line, but it was Southey that took the points when Andre Jackson – brother of Norwich City’s Simeon Jackson – netted the winner. Both sides had plenty of praise for referee Kevin Bridges who did a great job despite suffering from an injury sustained the day before.

Div 1 - Ash back to keep Bull top, while Throstles & Colley gain first wins -

Nick Ash celebrated his return to the Bulls Head side by scoring the decisive goal in a narrow win over Aston Swallownest to keep Bull at the top of Division One. Although an Alan Mowforth solo was cancelled out by a Dave Sills strike, Bull were back in front by half time when Mark Bryant left a defender for dead before scoring. After the break a John Marples header and Ash’s strike put Bull 4-1 ahead, but Aston stormed back with goals from Ian Draper and Ash Baker to set up a tense finish that had Bull hanging on.

Right behind them is Queens Ground as a Nathaniel Foster's seventh goal of the season, a stunning forty yard volley, was enough to beat Ranch and maintain their 100% start. They didn’t have it all their own way though and it needed a terrific display by keeper Scott Tilney to stop Ranch taking home a point.

Fairbank-Rhodes maintained their unbeaten start by beating a previously unbeaten Anston Athletic 5-0. Ross Morris and Scott Whittington had both found the net before Joe Walker’s free kick made it three within the first fifteen minutes and Hilton Startford-Smith made it four before the break. Anston did better after the break, but couldn’t stop Matt Griffin adding Fairbank’s fifth.

Niagara came from two down to win at Woodhouse Angel with the help of a Danny Bainbridge (pictured left) double. Kirk Briddon followed up a solo goal by adding a second from the penalty spot, but after Daniel Bonnick had hit the woodwork three times Bainbridge eventuall pulled on back before half time. The second half saw Niagara take a grip on the game and Ben Dronfield headed an equaliser before Daniel Cooper set Bainbridge up for his second. Scott Wostenholme added a fourth for the visitors before Cooper completed the scoring after good work by Simon Staniforth.

Marlon Catwell netted in each half and Ali berry scored his first for the club as Throstles gained their first win of the season, 3-0 at a Loxley side that missed a second half penalty, while Lee Campbell also netted twice as Colley FC gained their first win at Brinsworth Whitehill. Faisal Miladi gave Colley a half time lead and a Neil Whitworth goal was sandwiched between Campbells two, before Nick Glover added Colley’s fifth without reply.

Div 2 - Burgin & James doubles keep Handsworth perfect and Harris does the same for Ball  -

In Division Two, Greg Burgin and Chris James doubles helped Handsworth Old Boys to victory at Old Harrow to keep their 100% record in tact, Corey Eyre and Dave Turner made it six for Handsworth before Sam Robinson netted a late consolation for the home side.

A great performance by Marcus O’Malley and single Rob Harris goal gave Old Blue Ball a second successive 1-0 victory to keep their perfect record in tact, but Oughtibridge Village stayed top as Lee Bridges kept his record of goals in every game in their victory at Hollin Bush (Action from the game pictured right sees Oughtibridge's new signing Sean Lee firing in a shot). James Baker and Justin Westoby also netted for Oughtibridge in the first half and it proved enough as Bush could only pull one back through Chris Garlick’s long range strike. Village’s victory would have been more emphatic if it hadn’t been for Neil Hawley’s second consecutive penalty save.

The Park is second after a solid 4-1 home win over Colley WMC. A Gary West free kick gave Colley an early lead but two keeper errors helped Mark Twonsend and Adam Battle put The Park in front by half time and the secured the points with Lewey Stokes and Daniel Robinson goals in the second half of a game well refereed by Craig Couldwell.

A first half double from man-of-the-match Tom Geary helped Crookes & District to victory over Sharrow Vale to stay third. Chris Cottyn als found the net in the first half and Mike Dobson made it four after the break before Cooper and an own goal allowed Vale to pull two back. Adam Caywood’s first half header and Jake Schofield’s second half solo proved just enough for Junior Blades to beat a Players Lounge Athletic that pulled one back through Chris Greenwood.

More action from Oughtibridge Village's victory at Hollin Bush is shown below:

11 Sept 2011 - CBC Premier - Senior Service too good for Villa, while three keep maximum -  Craig Senior (pictured right) hit five as Ecclesfield Players Lounge won at Hemsworth Villa, but above them are Stannington Village, The Vine and Civil Service all made it three wins out of three. Laycock Sports created a shock as a Brett Douglas treble helped them defeat champions Stocksbridge Park Steels, while Southey Social gained their first victory in the top flight as a John Mellor penalty was enough to beat his old club Redmires.

Senior opened the scoring at Hemsworth Villa and Matt Clarke quickly added a second when he pounced on the rebound after Scott Kelly's header had been saved. Nick Owen pulled one back (pictured below), but Senior added two more both before and after the interval to put Ecclesfield in control. Liam Pigott netted a second for Villa, but Ryan Keeney scored the visitors seventh from the penalty spot (pictured below) before Alex Yule hit Villa's third.

More action from the game is pictured below.

Are these two in the new Strictly Come Dancing series, or practicing for River Dance?

Stannington Village are the early leaders after twice coming from behind to beat yew Tree 5-3. Richard Gill hit a screamer into the top corner to give Tree the lead was cancelled out by John Alcock's first goal for Stannington, and although Tree went back in front with a Mark Woodcock strike Stannington were level by the break with a John Saville goal. After the break a Jon Wall free kick put Stannington ahead and their lead was doubled when Dean Jepson stabbed the ball home. Another Wall free kick allowed Lee Johnstone to head Stannington's fifth before Chris Leek netted Tree's third. Pictures from the game are below, including the clubs observing a minute's silence to the victims of 9/11

The Vines hopes of a third successive victory didn't look too good when they were trailing to Luke Parwana and James Hook strikes at the interval, but a Rikki Davidson (pictured right) treble after the break saw The Vine come back to win it. He scored his first from the penalty spot after he had been brought down in the area and Danny Seaman set up his second to equalise. Craig Woolley had one cleared off the line and Josh Connor also went close before Shaun Blythe provided the pass for Davidson to run on to and round the keeper to get the winner.

Gavin Wills was the architect of Civil Service's 3-1 win at home to Handsworth Turf as his crosses laid on all three of Service's goals. Paul Billard and Danny Fowler were on the receiving end to give Service a two goal half time lead and although Handsworth got back into the game after the break when Jack Hall provided the pass for Mario Esposito to score a Wills corner was powered home by Billard.

The champions Stocksbridge Park Steels took an early lead at Laycock Sports, but instead of going on to collect their first win of the season, Laycocks hit back with a Brett Douglas treble in the space of fifteen minutes. Steels just couldn't get going and conceded a fourth after the break when Will Earle scored.

Southey Social are celebrating their first ever win in the top flight when a John Mellor penalty gave them the points against one of Mellor's old clubs Redmires. Another ex-Redmires player, Danny Lindley had hit the bar with a free-kick and Jason Slew - brother of ex-Blade Jordan Slew - might have also scored but the one goal proved enough.

Div 1 - Foster's five leave Colley in a spin -  Ex Sheffield United Academy player Nat Foster (pictured left) was another to hit five as Queens Ground thrashed Colley FC, while Aston Swallownest had six different scorers in their win over Brinworth Whitehill. Bulls Head kept their impressive start going as a John Kentzer double gave them victory at Ranch, while a late Richard Lester goal earned Loxley a point at Niagara and Fairbank-Rhodes were held to a goalless draw at Anston Athletic.

When Colley took an early lead through Sheridan Wilkes at home to Queens Ground they weren't aware of the whirlwind that was about to hit them. A Foster treble and two from Adrian Tomlin put Queens in control by half time and they added six more in the second half through two more from Foster, another for Tomlin, two from Delano Jones and one from John Iredale.

Nathan Warren and Ian Draper on his debut gave Aston Swallownest the lead at half time and a Ross Edwards volley added a third soon after. Jamie Radford pulled one back for Brinsworth Whitehill, but Aston restored their three goal lead with a David Sills shot that went in off the post. Steve Hopewell pulled a second back for Brinsworth, but Aston made certain as Billy Evans and Ash Baker both scored with headers. Referee Brent Marsh also gained praise for his performance.

Joe Keighley and John Kentzer both had easy taps in to give Bulls Head a two goal lead by half time at Ranch and although Tom Hartley pulled one back after the break, Kentzer grabbed his second to give Bulls Head their second away win in four days.

Craig Foster and Chris Smith goals looked to be putting Niagara on their way to a comfortable home win over Loxley, but a Josh Delaney special into the top corner and a twice taken penalty by John Bailey after Anthony Marshall had been fouled had Loxley level by half time. Danny Bainbridge put Niagara back in front after the break, but Loxley with Nick Cardin driving them on never gave up and grabbed an equaliser when Richard Lester headed a Josh Delaney corner home. Another draw came as Anston Athletic, with centre backs Jamie Harrison and Adam Russell like rocks at the back, kept their promising start going with a goalless draw at home to Fairbank-Rhodes.

Div 2 - Clarke and Underwood trebles get Bush and Crown seasons underway  - An Owen Clarke (pictured right) treble for Hollin Bush helped his side get it's season underway with victory at Players Lounge Athletic and Stuart Underwood hit his second treble of the season to give Highfield Old Crown their first win of the season against Old Harrow. A Liam Parnell double helped Handsworth Old Boys to victory over Junior Blades and a single Shaun Frawley goal got Old Blue Ball's season going with victory at Sharrow Vale. Oughtibridge Village and The Park shared the spoils in a game of real quality and Chapeltown RBL and Crookes & District also shared the spoils.

As well as scoring a hat-trick for Hollin Bush at Players Lounge Athletic, Owen Clarke also set up a fourth for Cole Starkes to give Bush a 4-0 victory, but the result might have been very different had Anthony Holmes not missed a penalty for the home side in the first half. Old Blue Ball also won away without conceding in their first game of the season as a man of the match performance by Rob Harris and a strike by teenager Shaun Frawley proved enough.

Stuart Underwood's hat-trick the previous weekend proved in vain as Highfield Old Crown lost, but this weekend it proved priceless as Crown beat Old Harrow 6-4. He scored all three in the first half along with a Kieron Wilson header and one from Gary Wilkins. Joe Butterell had netted one for Old Harrow and rather than giving up they hit back strongly in the second half with two from Zak Fleming-Wright and one from Richard Costelloe, but Crown kept them at bay with a Jason Naylor goal.

Handsworth Old Boys first win of the season was never in doubt after a Liam Parnell double and one each from Chris James and Corey Eyre put them four up against Junior Blades after just twenty minutes. Jake Schofield netted either side of the break to put the Blades back in it but a fifth for Handsworth by Greg Burgin made it more comfortable despite a third for the Blades by Adam Whittaker.

Lee Bridges gave Oughtibridge the lead at home against his old side The Park, but the visitors were in front by half time thanks to a Ryan Campbell strike and an own goal. It was a game of real quality and sub Ian Phillips maintained that quality with a free kick to give Oughtibridge a deserved share of the points. Another draw came at Chapeltown RBL where Crookes & District picked up their first away point of the season. Greg McLennan put Crookes in front after just ten minutes, but Chapeltown levelled through David Adams just past the half hour mark. After that Chapeltown looked the more likely to win it but Crookes keeper Tom Garrity earned his side a point with a man of the match performance.

Crookes & District FC would like to personally thank Andy Cooke and Alan Jones for their contribution in purchasing and sponsoring our kit for this season and give a mention and thanks to Chris Whalley of twentytwo, the football kit specialists for supplying and printing the kit.

8 Sept - Referees for 18 September now listed -  The referees for 18 September are now listed on the website. Will all the home clubs contact the referees immediately to confirm these games please.

8 Sept 2011 - CBC Premier - The Vine, Service and Village all win again -  A second successive clean sheet and a Craig Woolley (pictured right) double - both set up by Chris Shirtcliffe - was enough for The Vine to take the points at Pitsmoor Royal Oak to make it six points out of six for the newly promoted side.

Stannington Village won at the champions Stocksbridge Park Steels to be the early leaders. Sean Flynn crossed for centre back John Saville to connect with a diving header to give Village the lead, but Steels soon levelled through Adam Todd. The champions then pressed hard and hit the woodwork three times, but it was Village that went back in front before half time when Joe Barker slipped the ball past a defender and scored from twelve yards. Stannington always looked in control in the second half and clinched the game with a seven pass move finished off by Dean Jepson.

Civil Service also made it six out of six by just pipping Redmires in a seven goal thriller. Danny Fowler headed Service in front and Gavin Wills got a fortunate second, direct from a corner, but they took their foot off the pedal and Redmires pulled one back through Shaun Downing. After the break Paul Billard restored Service's two goal lead, but Redmires hit back strongly and deservedly levelled through Rob Gardiner and Luke Siggs strikes. Service threw on sub Adam Firth and he put them ahead again, but only some desperate defending stopped Redmires earning a point.

Yew Tree and Ecclesfield Players Lounge shared the points from a 2-2 draw, with all the goals coming in the second half. Matt Clarke volleyed Ecclesfield ahead, but Ryan Cockayne's fourth of the season and one from Scott Birch put Yew Tree ahead. Tree were then reduced to ten men when Birch got injured and Gavin Hunter took advantage to equalise - action from the game is below.

Div 1 - Brinsworth, Fairbank and Bulls Head all get first wins -  Brinsworth Whitehill's contest against Throstles was a game of two halves with a Steven Hopewell strike, an own goal and a Ryan Stevenson free kick in the first half just being enough to pip Liam Bonnick's penalty and Nick Wells late strike for Throstles in the second half and give Brinsworth their first win of the season.

Fairbank-Rhodes also collected their first win at home to Niagara as Joe Knight, Mark Barnsley, Hilton Stratford-Smith and Andy Baxter goals giving them an impressive 4-0 victory. Bulls Head also collected their first win as Mark Bryant set up Joe Windle for good finish in the first half and then crossed for Phil Jenkins to score with a terrific diving header in the second half giving them victory over Woodhouse Angel.

Div 2 - Crookes too smart for Colley  - Crookes & District put last weekend's hammering behind them to record a convincing victory over newcomers Colley WMC. Chris Cottyn put Crookes ahead only to see Steve Davies cancel it out before half time. A Sam Firth penalty put Crookes back in front after the break and with their confidence restored, Cottyn grabbed his second before man of the match Mike Dobson hit their fourth.

Chapeltown RBL also opened up their account after twice coming from behind to beat another newcomer Sharrow Vale. Tom Wray and James Wiles goals for Sharrow were cancelled out by Joseph Marles and Rob Portman strikes in the first half and Chapeltown won it in the second half with goals from Tom Crofts and Dan Lazenby.

Junior Blades also came from behind to record their first win. Highfield Old Crown took the lead with an Eddie McErlain penalty in the first half and it looked as if it might win it until the Blades were awarded a penalty of their own, which Jake Schofield put away. The Blades then won it when a long throw was flicked on for Adam Whittaker to score.

The Park also had to come from behind after Scott Marcus put Players Lounge Athletic ahead after just two minutes. The Park should have levelled when they were awarded a penalty, but the keeper pulled of a great save to deny them. It wasn't too long before they did level through Jack Ridge and they went on to lead 3-1 at the break with goals from Ryan Campbell and Adam Battle. Ricardo Stewart added another after half time and although Chris Greenwood pulled one back, Campbell's second and one from Calvin Thomas gave The Park the convincing win they deserved.

Oughtibridge Village made it two wins out of two at Old Harrow Grenoside with two from Lee Bridges and one each for Kyle Tales and Tom Fletcher giving Village a 4-1 victory. James Thompson netted Old Harrow's consolation.

7 Sept - Macron Cup News - Player Lounge Athletic go through -  Despite losing to Junior Blades, Players Lounge will go through to the next round after a registration error meant that the Blades played an ineligible player. Players Lounge will now play Oughtibridge Village in Round 2.

4 Sept 2011 - CBC Premier - Village people on song, while Oak & Tree branch out -

The first day of the season saw Stannington Village quickly show newly promoted Redmires how tough life is at the top by beating them 6-1, with four of the goals coming from new signing Jonathan Wall. It started well for Redmires when Dave Knaggs put them ahead, but a Wall free kick and a second scrambled home by Dean Jepson had Stannington ahead by the break. The second half was one-way traffic with Wall adding three more and Jepson his second.

Ryan Cockayne hit three as Yew Tree also hit six at Hemsworth Villa. Nick Owen gave Villa the lead until Matt Jessermino put Scott Birch in for the equaliser. Cockayne then headed Tree into the lead and completed his hat-trick with further goals either side of half time. Two great saves by keeper Steven Marshall maintained Tree’s lead before Nathan Hanson set Birch up for his second and an own goal made it six. Another own goal following a Russ Westby cross gave Villa a second consolation, but they were well beaten by that stage - action from the game is below:

The day's top scorers in the CBC Premier was Pitsmoor Royal Oak as hat-tricks for Gavin Davis and Leon Stocks saw them his seven at Laycock Sports. Despite debut goals for Will Earle and Dan Waterfall, the game was over by the break as Oak were leading 5-2. Waterfall grabbed his second, but Luke Parwana completed the scoring with Oak’s seventh.

Newly promoted The Vine got off to a confident start with a home win over Handsworth Turf. Joe France made the switch from The Vine to Handsworth in the summer and he almost opened the scoring for his new side, but when Dean Chappel fed Rikki Davidson, he showed him how to finish to giv The Vine a half time lead. After the break, Craig Woolley carved out a second for Josh Connor and victory was assured when Danny Seaman crossed for Woolley to head home. Referee Paul Cooper gained plenty of praise from both teams.

Southey Social couldn't match that in their first ever game in the top flight and although Gavin Pitts gave them a second half lead, they slipped to defeat at Civil Service. The host plans were disrupted with the loss of keeper Carl Whitby before the game started and centre back John Charles took over between the posts, but he was then injured and Tom Stubbs replaced him. They fought back against this adversity and equalised when Chris Fowler scored from Gavin Wills set-piece. Gareth Griffiths was then stealing the limelight with a series of last ditch tackles to stop Southey regaining the lead and he then went one better by netting Service’s winner, but the result was cruel on Southey.

Champions Stocksbridge Park Steels were leading at Ecclesfield Players Lounge, but the game had to be abandoned after Ecclesfield defender Ben Hill suffered a broken leg. Referee Matt Tyers received plenty of praise for the way he handled the situation and assistance with the player.

Div 1 - Ranch round up the Angels, while Niagara and Queens Ground also win -

In Division One, Ranch look determined to make a quick return to the top flight after Richard Berry and Tom Hartley both hit doubles in a 6-1 thrashing of a Woodhouse Angel that was relegated with them last season. Berry’s and Hartley’s goals came either side of a Lee Marshall header for Angel in the first half and Ranch cruised to victory in the second half with further goals from Richard Honeyman and Jacob Burgin.

Newly promoted Niagara got off to a good start with Danny Bainbridge netting twice in a home victory against Brinsworth Whitehill. Bainbridge’s first was cancelled out by a Jamie Radford strike in the first half and Radford missed a good chance to put his side ahead, but after the break a Daniel Cooper header from a corner put Niagara back in front and the clinched it when Cooper flicked on for Bainbridge to net his second.

Another promoted side, Throstles, couldn’t match them and fell to a 4-2 home defeat by Queens Ground. Adi Tamlin gave Queens the lead, but James Stone and Nick Curtis strikes had Throstles in front by half time. The second half belonged to Queens Ground though and they equalised with a Jamie Cherry penalty before winning it with Nat Foster and Josh Bermingham goals.

Anston Athletic also got off to a winning start at home to Loxley. A Simon Turner free kick was headed home by centre back James Harrison to give Anston a first half lead and after Geoff Mayfield needlessly fouled Matt Roebuck in the area, Anston’s other centre back Adam Russell put the penalty away to double their lead. John Bailey pulled one back when Loxley were awarded a penalty, but Anston held on.

Last season’s top two in Division Bulls Head and Fairbank-Rhodes shared the points in a top quality game. Scott Whittington gave Fairbank a second half lead, but a tremendous 35 yard left foot volley gave Bulls Head a deserved share of the points. A Lee Campbell strike earned Colley FC a point at Aston Swallownest after Ross Edwards had given the home side the lead, but it also needed a great save by Matt Whitehead to earn Colley their point.

Div 2 - Village power too much for Crookes  -  Division Two’s only game saw hat-tricks for both Justin Westoby and Lee Smith help Oughtibridge Village to a ten goal win over Crookes & District. Lee Bridges marked his league debut for Village with a double while Ian Phillips and man of the match James Baker netted the others.

Macron Cup Round 1 - Colley make a confident start, but the other new clubs bow out -

In Round 1 of the Macron Cup a Steve Davies double helped League newcomers Colley WMC to victory over Chapeltown RBL. Richard Firth and Paul Dawson hit Colley’s others. Joining them in the next round is fellow newcomers Players Lounge Athletic even though they lost to Junior Blades, but a registration error meant the Blades played an ineligible player and so Players Lounge go through to meet Oughtibridge Village in the next round.

The other newcomer Sharrow Vale bowed out though after conceding an equaliser in the final minute of normal time. James Wild gave Sharrow the lead, but Old Harrow Grenoside levelled with a Will Peace penalty after Jordan Broadbent had been fouled. Matt Ward looked to have won it for Sharrow until Gareth Whalley’s very late equaliser and Old Harrow took full advantage to win it with further goals from Joe Bilby, Mitchell Edwards. Sharrow narrowed the gap with an own goal, but any hopes of a comeback were dash by a Broadbent goal.

The Park’s new look side earned a narrow win at Handsworth Old Boys. It took almost forty minutes for The Park to break the deadlock with a David Nash penalty and it was quickly followed by a second from Gavin Thomas after Mark Townsend’s pass set him up. There was still time for Chris James to pull one back before the break, but when Handsworth hit the net in the second half it was an own goal to restore The Park’s two goal lead. A Greg Burgin penalty pulled one back, but The Park held on in a game that drew plenty of praise for referee Gemma Gale.

Hollin Bush needed a Cole Starkes double to help them finally come through a ten goal thriller at Highfield Old Crown. Stuart Underwood gave Crown an early lead, but Kevin Bly and Owen Clarke strikes soon had Bush ahead. An own goal extended Bush’s lead by the break, but Underwood completed his hat-trick to bring Crown level. Starkes hit his first to put Bush back in front only to see an Eddie McErlain penalty cancel it out, but Starkes’ second and a clincher from Callum Cutts saw Bush home.

18 August 2011 - League meeting Monday 22 AUGUST -  Don't forget it is the first League meeting of the new season at Bramall Lane on Monday 22 AUGUST, starting at 7.30. It is important that all clubs are represented as the League scorebooks and season Handbooks will be handed out. Also, the County FA will be attending to explain the new match based disciplinary process and answer any questions you may have about it. Clubs should alsOBring an extra £5 with them as we intend to do the League lottery for the season at the meeting, and because we made a modest profit last season, we are only asking for £5 instead of the £9 it would have normally cost over the season.

14 August 2011 - Chapeltown lose their number 1 supporter -  Chapeltown RBL recently lost their most avid fan Walter Pritchard after he sadly passed away. Walter, whose son in law is club secretary, and has 4 grandsons and 1 grandson (in law) playing will be missed by all who knew him. Ever present either at games or after in the Royal British Legion Club, he was a giant character with a tremendous sense of humour – he was “one of the lads”. The team will honour and remember Walter by including on the back of all their shirts.

14 July 2011 - Mark takes Duel role -  One piece of good news from the unfortunate loss of Millhouses, is that their former secretary Mark Duell has agreed to join the League's management team and become the registrar for both the CBC Premier and Division One. Mark worked tirelessly for Millhouses and nOBlame for Millhouses demise should be attached to him. Mark is a real enthusiast of grassroots football and his enthusiasm and love of the game can only be an asset to the League.

The vacancies have arisen after the former CBC Premier registrar, Craig Anthony has had to end his involvement to give further support to his family and Division One registrar, Dale Turner, has had to reduce his workload after taking a new job. Dale will still be involved, but we wish Craig all the very best for the future and the League thanks him for his many years of dedicated service.
