26 Sept - CBC Premier - Service too good for Steels, while Kieran's back to stun Stannington - Civil Service climbed back on top of the CBC Premier as a Carl Lomas double helped them to a well deserved win at Stocksbridge Park Steels. An understrength held the Servicemen for a goalless first half, but Lee Wild's fifth of the season put Service ahead soon after the break and when Carl Lomas showed unbelievable tekkers to half volley home a second, there was only going to be one winner. Lomas then wrapped up the points when he played a smart one-two with Adam Firth and produced a cool finish. Action from the game is shown right. Only behind them on goal difference is Ecclesfield 147 Player Lounge after two Jason Reeves strikes helped them to victory over Laycock Sports. Although Laycock Sports had four first half efforts cleared off the line, they found themselves two down after Ryan Keeney set up strikes for Alex Booker and Danny Touhey. Jayson Reeves made it three soon after the break, before Laycocks pulled one back when Brett Douglas put Mark McGuiness in. Reeves then restored 147's three goal advantage before John Kilcoyne netted a second for Laycock from the penalty spot and although Keeney failed with a spot kick his side took the points. After Handsworth WMC's poor start to the season, manager Adam Johnson persuaded Kieran Gallagher (pictured left) to come out of 'retirement' and his manager's faith in him was totally justified as Gallagher netted twice as Handsworth swept Stannington Village aside for their first win of the season. Gallagher was already giving Stanngton's defence a torrid time before he took the ball off a defender to open the scoring and early in the second half he finished off a great solo run to double the advantage. With Carl Eaton also back in the side to run midfield a third was always on the cards and it came when Dale Moore turned in the area before rifling home. A Leon Stocks header from Craig O'Brien's cross after just ten minutes gave Pitsmoor Royal Oak victory at Ranch and their first points of the season, while Woodhouse Angel also got off the mark after the Woodhouse derby with West End finished all-square. Spencer Starkes showed real vision to curl the ball into an unguarded net to give Angel a first half lead and with John Faruga having to take over in goal after West End lost keeper John Badkin with a face injury, they must have feared the worst, but like true champions they hit back and levelled through Anthony Dolan. Both sides might have won it after that, but Spencer Taylor made sure West End's re-shuffled defence held on to a point. Division 1 - Millhouses land Turner prize - Danny Turner (pictured right) plundered four second half goals as Millhouses Thermolast went second with a 6-0 victory over Handsworth Old Boys. Ali Berry started things off and Rob Gardiner hit a second before the break. After the break the Old Boys couldn't handle Berry and he helped to set up all of Turner's four goals. Up to third in The Vine after victory over Aston Swallownest. Danny Seaman crossed for Jamie Moore give The Vine the lead and it stayed like that until the break despite Aston having a penalty shout controversially turned down. Soon after the break Brent Healey netted a second after playing a one-two with Ricky Davidson and although Tom Bentley headed one back for the visitors, Seaman hit a third for The Vine. Two more Turners gave Brinsworth Whitehill their first win of the season against Anston Athletic. Shaun Turner lobbed the first after the keeper had come for, and missed, a cross, before Aaron Turner tap in a second after Anston's keeper had initially saved. Anston hit back strongly in the second half, but Brinsworth's defence proved to the equal of everything thrown at them. Referee Mr Scholey also gained praise from the teams. Two Lee Campbell strikes gave Malthouse their first win of the season at Rivelin. A ball over the top saw Campbell use his pace to race through and open the scoring, but John Iredale had Rivelin level by the break. If Rivelin had shown more steadiness in front of goal they might well have taken the lead after the break, but instead it was Campbell that pounced on a cross to win it for Malthouse. Division 2 - Last gasp Robinson keeps Fairbank on top - Fairbank-Rhodes looked as if they were going to drop their first points of the season until a last gasp Mitchell Robinson long range strike gave them victory at Junior Blades - Mitchell is extreme left on the picture right. Fairbank had a large majority of the play, but it looked as if the Blades, with full back Joe Grapes outstanding, were going to hold on until Robinson's stunner in the final moments. More action from the game is shown below
Danny Bainbridge hit four as Niagara thrashed Chapeltown 8-1. Ben Dronfield set Niagara on their way with a free kick and two from Bainbridge and one from Chris Smith had them well in front before Declan Carr pulled one back for the home side. The second half saw Niagara continue to dominate and as well as two more from Bainbridge, Simon Staniforth also helped himself to two goals. They were the day's top scorers though as Bulls head thrashed Crookes & District 11-0. Nick Ash made it thirteen goals in the first month with three of them, while Mark Bryant and Alan Moorthorpe grabbed two each. Kerry Dixon, Chris Smith, Johnny Marples and Joe Keighley also got their names on the scoresheet, while Crookes's Rikki Hill did his level best to stop the score being even worse. New signings Marcus Doyle and Lee Betts both found the net as Highfield Old Crown grabbed their first win of the season at The Park. Craig Smith set Doyle up for the first before Betts second and although The Park came back into the game, they were hit on the break by Gary Wilkins' third for the visitors. After a goalless first half, Nick Curtis set Throstles on their way to victory at Old Harrow when he headed home James Stones' corner and after Adam Houlston made a terrific save to maintain their lead, Ryan Lawson ignored the please for offside to race away and cross for Liam Bonnick to seal Throstles victory. After another goalless first half, sub Zak Crownshaw put Old Ble Ball ahead at Oughtibridge Village and with skipper John Heritage leading by example it looked like they might take all three points until Oughtibridge were awarded a penalty, put away by Kyle Tales. |

Signed by Liverpool from Ajax in 1984, Jan Molby went on to arguably be the best Danish player to have played in England, making in excess of 200 appearances for the Reds. He was in Liverpool’s double winning side of 1985/86 and also featured the last time they won the title in 1989/90. He became Swansea City’s youngest ever manager in 1996. He became known as a bit of a character during his playing days and the night should provide some accounts of the highlights of his career - on and off the pitch. After the success of last year’s dinner, the League is again substantially subsidising tickets to Blades Super Draw League clubs for this not-to-be-missed event. The cost to you is just £25 per ticket – approximately half the full price of tickets on general sale. Tables of 10 or possibly 12 can be accommodated. That scoreline looked unlikely at half time as Steels led by a single goal and if Ranch had levelled instead of hitting a post early in the second half it might have been different, but once Steels got into gear there was no stopping them. Skipper Adam Todd (pictured right) grabbed four and Gary Thompson three, while player manager Kevin Davies weighed in with the other. Action from the game is shown left. Division 2 - Whittington & Knight both hit four as Fairbank run riot - The only other league game was in Division Two where Fairbank-Rhodes took over at the top with a 9-1 mauling of Chapeltown RBL. Scott Whittington took his season’s tally to eleven with four and his strike partner Joe Knight also grabbed four to celebrate his first game of the season, while Ross Morris knocked in the other. Chapeltown’s Jack Skinner grabbed their consolation. SUNDAY SENIOR CUP West End Show the way, while Villa pip 147 & Stannington go through - Four Dave Kippax (pictured left) goals helped Woodhouse West End thrash AFC Gardens 9-1, while a Nick Owen treble helped Hemsworth Villa pip Ecclesfield 147 in a seven goal thriller. Pictured is Nick Owen's first from the penalty spot. Stannington Village saw off Mosborough and Yew Tree join them in the next round after receiving a bye. The all-Blades Super Draw League Sunday Senior Cup tie between Hemsworth Villa and CBC Premier leaders Ecclesfield 147 saw Villa win a seven goal thriller thanks to a Nick Owen treble and one from Ian Holmes. 147 took the lead when Stefan Harris committed a foul in the area and Ryan Keeney calmly slotted home the penalty, but another penalty after Ciefer Fisher had been brought down allowed Owen level before the break. After the interval, Scott Peace twice set Owen up to give Villa a two goal lead and although Craig Senior pulled one back for 147, an Ian Holmes lob over the keeper restored Villa’s two goal advantage. Keeney hit his second to give Villa an uncomfortable last couple of minutes, but they managed to hold on. Action from the game is shown below.
Joining them in Round Two is champions Woodhouse West End after they thrashed AFC Gardens 9-1. After falling behind, David Haley leveled from the penalty spot and it was one way traffic after that. Dave Kippax grabbed four and Spencer Taylor two, while the others came from Anthony Dolan and an own goal. Also through is Stannington Village after they produced their best form of the season to beat Mosborough 2-0. Lee Johnstone struck the first from the penalty spot after Matt Asher had been brought down and Josh Coulson settled it with five minutes remaining when he sidefooted home from ten yards. Woodhouse Angel were put out by holders Arbourthorne EA and also out are Civil Service after their defeat at Beighton Magpies. Pitsmoor Royal Oak took the lead through Gavin Davis, but they eventually went out to Greenhill White Hart, while a good first half performance by Handsworth WMC was followed by a less than satisfactory second half and they were beaten by local rivals Handsworth Turf Tavern. SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP Ash hits 6 and Davidson and Bonnick 4 each as 14 go through - Nick Ash (pictured right) hit a double hat-trick as Bulls Head thrash Rawson Spring, while Ricky Davidson hit four as The Vine hit seven. Liam Bonnick also hit four as Throstles hit six and Reece McLandless hit a hat trick as Old Blue Blall win an eleven goal thriller. They are joined in the next round by ten other Blades Super Draw League teams. Division Two Bulls Head’s Nick Ash was on fire as he plundered six goals in his sides 9-1 victory at Meadowhall side Rawson Spring. Leading 2-1 at the break, Bull and Ash turned up the heat in the second half and as well as his six, Mark Bryant, Tom Cocker and Alan Mowforth found the net. Throstles Liam Bonnick (pictured left) hit four as his side won 6-2 against Sheffield Forum, but they needed an own goal and one from Ryan Lawson in extra time to do it. Ricky Davidson also hit four as The Vine defeated an unbeaten Heeley & Sheffield 7-1. David Seaman started the scoring spree off and along with Davidson’s four, he added another along with one from Steven Hazelhurst. Reece McIandless grabbed thee as Old Blue Ball just won an eleven goal thriller with FDL Totley. Thompson and Hayes netted Ball’s others as they just held on against spirited opponents. More convincing was Southey Social’s 6-1 victory at The Mill. Although Daniel Marshall’s opener was quickly cancelled out, Simon Jebson soon had Southey back in front and they never looked back as Chris Roberts and Nicky Danks both netted a brace. After falling a goal behind, Highfield Old Crown produced their best form of the season to beat Noahs Ark 5-1. Gary Wilkins and Andy Foyle both hit doubles while their fifth came from Andy Theakston. Another to produce their best form of the season was Junior Blades who look to have a real find in new striker Aaron Trinder. He grabbed two and Aaron Nicholson one as the Blades won 3-1 at Rose House. Lee Smith and Paul Hawksworth strikes gave Oughtibridge Village a 2-0 home win over Handsworth Social Club, while an own goal and a Ben Lee strike saw The Park through by the same score at Staffordshire Arms. Redmires also went through comfortably as Nick Hickson, Chris Cotterill and Ben Palmer strikes gave them a 3-0 victory at Ecclesfield Albion. Niagara had one of the day’s best wins against Meadowhall Division Two leaders Penistone Church. Danny Bainbridge set Daniel Cooper to give Niagara the lead, but it look destined for extra time after their visitors levelled, that was until Bainbridge popped up in the final minute to win it for Niagara. After Pat Lynch missed a penalty, Old Harrow fell two behind to visitors Devonshire Arms, but with Lynch working tirelessly to make amends for his miss he helped set up a tap in for Joe Bilby and another for Samuel Robinson against his former club. That took the game into extra time and it was Old Harrow that finished the stronger to win it with a Liam Peace penalty. Aston Swallownest had to rely on experience for their victory at Horse & Jockey with 47 year old manager Steve Hall and 45 year old Tony Smith having to fill in for absent regulars. After falling behind, Steve Hall miscued to set up Ash Baker for the equalizer before the break and after half time Hall found the net himself from Steven Jefferies free kick. Another free kick, this time from Ross Edwards clinched Aston’s progress. A Joe Fothergill treble wasn’t enough to stop Crookes & District going out at home to Jack in a Box, while Colley also fell at the first hurdle against Centre Spot. Anston Athletic surprisingly went out at Harrow Grenoside and Rivelin also were surprise losers at home against Steel City. Also out are Brinsworth Whitehill after a 2-0 defeat at Mosborough and Handsworth Old Boys after their defeat at Norton |
16 Sept - Steels re-Ward-ed with their first Steve Gee Merit Cup - Four Nick Ward strikes helped Stocksbridge Park Steels come from behind to defeat Colley 7-2 and win the Blades Super Draw League Steve Gee Merit Cup for the first time. Lee Grocock hit a real thunderbolt from twenty five yards to give Colley the lead, but it lasted less than a minute as Ward hit his first. Ward then put Steels ahead and although Colley skipper Neil Whitworth briefly levelled, Ward's third had Steels ahead at half time. After the breakColley almost levelled again when Lee Campbell hit a post, but class began to tell and as Colley began to tire, Steels took full advantage with Ward's fourth, two from skipper Adam Todd and one from John Ward. The sides shake hands before the game and Steels scorers Nick Ward, Adam Todd & John Ward celebrate with the cup. More photos from the game are below.

13 Sept - Macron Cup Draw for Round 2 - The draw for Round 2 of the Macron Cup saw holders Yew Tree set to face Division Two leaders Bulls Head, while last season's beaten finalists Woodhouse West End travel to Division One Loxley. The only all CBC Premier tie sees Stannington Village play host to Stocksbridge Park Steels. The full draw is: Anston Athletic v Millhouses Thermolast; Civil Service v Brinsworth Whitehill; Colley v Handsworth WMC; Fairbank-Rhodes v Ranch; Handsworth Old Boys v Junior Blades; Hemsworth Villa v Rivelin; Highfield Old Crown v Woodhouse Angel; Laycock Sports v The Park; Loxley v Woodhouse West End; Niagara v The Vine; Pitsmoor Royal Oak v Chapeltown RBL; Redmires v Aston Swallownest; Royal Oak v Oughtibridge Village; Southey Social v Ecclesfield 147; Stannington Village v Stocksbridge PS; Yew Tree v Bulls Head. All ties to be played on Sunday 3 October - except for the Redmires v Aston Swallownest tie, which will played on 17 Oct. 12 Sept - Paul's run to help the Children's Hospital boosted by Fairbank-Rhodes - Old Harrow secretary Paul Heath, pictured left holding his running vest bearing the Children's Hospital logo, ran the BUPA Great Yorkshire 10k run on Sunday 5th September in Sheffield. He completed the route from Lyceum to SWFC ground + back to the Lyceum in 46 mins 1 second, raising around £400 on behalf of Sheffield Children's Hospital. Paul tally was boosted by a splendid £50 donation from the players of today's opponents, Fairbank-Rhodes. Any other clubs wishing to make donations can give them to Paul at the League meeting on 27 Sept. 12 Sept - CBC Premier - Owen & Douglas trebles, but Senior double sends 147 top - A Craig Senior double helped Ecclesfield 147 Players Lounge defeat Stannington Village and send 147 top of the CBC Premier. Although 147 took the lead in fortunate style when Craig Senior's shot rebounded from the keeper onto Alex Booker and into the net, there was nothing fortunate about the rest of their display. Matt Clarks long throw was headed home by Senior and he wrapped the points up when he netted a third in the second half. Just behind 147 is Civil Service after they made it three wins out of three against Woodhouse Angel. Although Wes Bamford's twenty five yard strike was cancelled out by Lee Marshall, Service went back in front before half time through Lee Wild. Carl Lomas head a third after the break and although Gareth Simons put Angel back into it from the penalty spot, a Chris Smith strike settled Service nerves. Tom Nelson set up a first half Ryan Cockayne strike at Ranch (see picture first left) proved to be the only goal of the game, keeping Yew Tree's perfect record going, but Yew Tree's day was marred by thieves who climbed through a small window and took many personal items. It was even worse for the Arundel side that shared their dressing room as one of their players not only had his car keys stolen - they took his car as well. A Nick Owen treble gave Hemsworth Villa victory at Handsworth WMC. Owen gave them a first half lead from the penalty spot (see picture first left below) and although Handsworth's keeper, the former Leicester City star Tony James, did his best to keep Villa at bay, he couldn't stop Owen adding two more in the second half to give Villa their first win of the season.
Laycock Sports also grabbed their first win of the season with the help of a hat-trick from Brett Douglas. After a goalless first half, visitors Pitsmoor Royal Oak took a deserved lead through Gavin Davis, but a great solo run and finish by Douglas soon had Laycocks level. Davis then set up Elijah Lewis to restore Oak's lead, but a tap in from ten yards gave Douglas his second and he won it with another terrific solo run and finish. Division 1 - Redmires Knagged into top spot - A Dave Knaggs penalty double helped Redmires go top of Division One with victory against Colley. A handball in the area gave Knaggs his first and he was brought down for his second and a Nick Hickson strike had Redmires three up at the break. Colley had a much better second half, but they had to wait until five minutes from time before summer signing Karl Fox grabbed a consolation. Referee Alan Streets gained praise as a Danny Lindley (pictured left) double at The Vine kept Southey's perfect record in tact. His first came straight from a corner and he finished off a one-two with John Mellor to double Southey's advantage. Will Blakeney lobbed over Southey's keeper for Shaun Blythe to head one back for The Vine before half time, but Southey's organised defence stopped them getting an equaliser. A James Lawton (pictured right) treble and singles from Tom Gabbitas and Ben Sargeant saw Anston Athletic start their season with a victory at Loxley. John Bailey twice scored from the penalty spot for the home side and Josh Delaney also netted for them, but Anston always had their noses in front. Millhouses Thermolast looked as if they might get their first away win of the season when the predatory Danny Turner converted Ben Woodman's wicked free kick, but their hosts Rivelin kept plugging away and when Mark Davies's miscued clearance fell to Matt Law he gave Rivelin the point they deserved. Referee Paul Matthewson was praised by both sides for his performance to help make the game such a good contest. Division 2 - The Park have a love-Lee time - The Park's Ben Lee hammered six goals as The Park thrashed Crookes & District on a day where the six Division Two games saw 43 goals scored. Marcus Pass and Iain Martin grabbed two each, while Adam Broomhead, Brian Jones and Matt Hill added one each. A Daniel Cooper treble and one each for Danny Bainbridge and Chris Smith helped Niagara to victory at Junior Blades, while a Scott Whittington treble did the same for Fairbank-Rhodes at Old Harrow. Jon Tomilinson gave Fairbank the lead, only for Jordan Broadbent to cancel it out before half time. The second half belonged to Whittington though and a fifth was added by the head of Ross Morris. Mick Firth was another referee to get praised as Simon Major grabbed three for Royal Oak as they thrashed Highfield Old Crown to take their goal tally to twenty three in just three games. Owen Clark grabbed two, while the others came from Lewis Barker, Cole Srakes and man-of-the-match Paul Turner, while Crown's consolation came from Andy Boyle. Oughtibridge Village won a nine goal thriller at Chapeltown RBL with the help of doubles from Armondo Manfredi and Lee Smith. Ben Green and Strachan Sampson grabbed two others for Village, but Chapeltown, with goals from Ben Palmer, Declan Carr and Scott Brearley gave them a real game in the first half in particular. Still top though is Bulls Head even though they were held by Old Blue Ball. It was Ball that took the lead through John Morgan and with keeper Danny Smith in inspired form they might have pulled off a shock win, but he could do nothing to stop Bulls man of the match Lee Smith's volley from twenty five yards. 9 Sept - CBC Premier - 147 too Keeney for champs - Ryan Keeney (pictured right) netted twice as Ecclesfield 147 Players Lounge beat champions Woodhouse West End, but early leaders are Civil Service after a Gareth Griffiths goal was enough to beat Ranch. Yew Tree also have maximum points after Chris Leek & Phil Cookson goals beat Laycock Sports, while Adam Todd netted two penalties as Stocksbridge Park Steels beat Woodhouse Angel. Andy Stevens hit a last minute equaliser for Handsworth WMC at Hemsworth Villa, while Matt Asher netted four to help Stannington Village beat Pitsmoor Royal Oak. Division 1 - Ward double sends Redmires top - Alex Ward netted twice as Redmires beat Handsworth Old Boys to go top of Division One, while The Vine maintained an unbeaten start by coming from behind twice to claim a point at Colley. Division 2 - Bulls Head Division Two - Nick Ash (pictured left) grabbed another two as Bulls Head went top with victory at Oughtibridge Village, while a Luke Jones treble helped Old Harrow to victory at Crookes & District. Scott Whittington and Michael Holmes doubles helped Fairbank-Rhodes pip Royal Oak, while Nick Curtis also grabbed two as Throstles won at Highfield Old Crown. Niagara's promising start continued with victory over The Park and Old Blue Ball started their account with victory over Junior Blades. 7 Sept - Division 1 - Danny Boys swing it for Millhouses - A twenty five yard Danny Stuart first half strike and a Danny Turner penalty after Adam Sturch had been brought down in the last few minutes gave Millhouses Thermolast a 2-0 victory over a Brinsworth Whitehill that really made the home side work hard for the victory. |
5 Sept - CBC Premier - Service go Wild - The first week of the season brought a big shock as a Lee Wild treble helped Civil Service to a 5-1 victory at a Stannington Village considered to be one of the big title favourites. Both Wild and strike partner Wes Bamford were proving to be a real handful right from the off and it was no surprise when Bamford put the visitors ahead. Bamford then set up Wild for his first and his second soon made it three. Stannington were then indebted to keeper Nathan Ryan as Service threatened to run riot, but after Dean Jepson pulled one back for Stannington for a short time they threatened to get back into the game. Service always looked dangerous on the break though and Wild settled their nerves with his third before Ben Brown completed a victory that means they have lost just two games in 2010. CBC Premier champions Woodhouse West End had a difficult looking task at local rivals Woodhouse Angel, but they went in front when David Haley netted from the penalty spot after he had been brought down in the area and Dave Kippax playing in an unusual place up front rounded the Angel keeper to seal a solid win for the champions. Macron Cup holders Yew Tree showed their title ambitions with victory at Handsworth WMC. Ryan Cockayne crossed for Pete Gill to put Tree in front just before half time, but Handsworth were level soon after the break when Mario Esporito was brought down in the area and Danny Leesley scored from the spot (see below). Tree were soon back in front though as Chris Leek put Phil Cookson through to score (see picture top left below) and Leek made the points safe with a terrific solo goal (more action from the game is below).
A Matt Clark double helped Ecclesfield 147 Players Lounge to victory over promoted Pitsmoor Royal Oak and the home side again look capable of mounting a title challenge. Craig Senior put them ahead five minutes before the break when he shot low into the corner and soon after the break Clark's glancing header doubled 147's advantage. Clark then added a third and although Gavin Davis pulled one back for Oak, Ryan Keeney restored 147's three goal advantage when he scored from the spot after Kevin Hunter was felled in the area. James Ketteringham grabbed a second for Oak as they showed enough to suggest they will cause a lot of sides problems. After twice falling behind, a last gasp Richard Berry penalty meant Ranch started life at the top with a draw against Stocksbridge Park Steels. Mark Carr gave Steels the lead, but Oliver Whittaker levelled before the break. Adam Todd produced a neat finish to put Steels back in front and it looked as if it would be the winner until Berry kept his nerve to score from the spot. Laycock Sports and Hemsworth Villa also shared the spoils after a six goal thriller. Mark Hopkinson headed Villa into the lead (see picture left below), only for Steve Morris to feed Sam Read to level for the home side, but Ian Holmes put Villa back in front before the break. Laycock's stormed back after the break and after Alex Napier levelled, Brett Douglas put them ahead, but they had to settle for a point after Holmes headed a deserved equaliser for Villa - see picture 2nd left below and more action from the game.
Division 1 - Ricky hits 5 as The Vine storm back Ricky Davidson (pictured left) hit five as The Vine came from two down at the interval to beat Colley. It didn't look good for The Vine's hopes of a quick return to the top flight when Adam Jackson and Sheridan Wilks gave Colley a two goal half time lead, but it was a completely different story after the break as five Davidson strikes and one from Jamie Moore meant Craig Woolley return after year out through injury was a happy one. Loxley started with a solid win over Handsworth Old Boys. John Bailey blasted home from the penalty spot after Josh Delaney had been fouled to give Loxley a half time lead and it was doubled soon after the break when Steve Mayfield's great run ended with his brother Geoff slotting home. Mick Smith added a third before he set Delaney up for the fourth and final goal. After Dave Knaggs had chipped the keeper and Alex Ward's speedy second, Redmires just held on against Millhouses Thermolast after they had pulled one back when Ally Berry converted Tom Higginbottom's cross. Danny Turner went close to equalising for the visitors but with centre backs Andy Jones and James Kirkham outstanding Redmires took the points. Redmires were also grateful to Millhouses Rob Gardiner who did a good job as stand-in referee. After the home side had fought back three times, Southey Social finally won a seven goal thriller at fellow promotees Aston Swallownest with a last gasp John Mellor strike. Mellor, Chris Roberts and Todd Guest put Southey ahead three times, only to see a Tom Foster free kick, Billy Evans and Adam Pilgrim level each time and it looked as if Aston would get a deserved point until Mellor struck again in the dying seconds. Another promoted side, Rivelin, started with a point at Brinsworth Whitehill when Scott Smith levelled after Ryan Stevenson had given Brinsworth the lead. Division 2 - Ash back on target for Bull Nick Ash celebrated his return to the Bulls Head side after missing most of last season through injury with two goals in their victory over league newcomers Chapeltown Royal British Legion. A Mark Bryant double gave Bull the early advantage and although Declan Carr pulled one back for Chapeltown, two each for Ash and Joe Keighley saw Bull home. Paul Hawksworth's header and Danny Hill's free kick gave Oughtibridge Village victory at Junior Blades in a game where referee M Layton received praise from both sides. Macron Cup Round 1 - Oak go goal crazy Simon Major and Owen Clark both hit four as Royal Oak punished an understrength Crookes & District side to comfortably progress to the second round, while Scott Whittington (pictured right) hit what will be one of the goals of the season as Fairbank-Rhodes progressed with an impressive victory over league newcomers Throstles. Michael Holmes took advantage of indecision in the home defence to put Fairbank ahead from an acute angle, but there was nothing the home side could do to stop Whittington's 25 yard screamer to put his side two up. With Hilton Smith calling the shots in midfield for Fairbank, a mistake by the keeper allowed Jon Tomlinson to make it three before the break and although Nick Curtis curled one back for Throstles, Whittington had the final say when he took advantage of some more sloppy defending to hit his sides fourth. Below left if Whittington's wonder strike, then Tomlinson's cross shot that deceived the keeper, folled by more action from the game.
Danny Bainbridge marked his return to the League by giving Niagara the lead at Old Harrow and after fellow new signing had added a second, Bainbridge took advantage of good work by Dean Constable to hit Niagara's third. Luke Peace pulled one back for the home side but they never looked likely to stop Niagara going through. Reece McIandless gave newcomers Old Blue Ball the lead at The Park, but Ben Lee levelled before half time and then headed them in front after the break.
