– LEAGUE CUP FINAL –
Chapell
penalty sees Earl edge the Final to complete the Double –
The League Cup Final between
Royal Earl and Wadsley Bridge Sixers at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane
Stadium saw a Connor Chapell penalty enough to see Earl edge the Final
to complete the League and Cup Double. The defining moment came early in
the game when Brandon Bagley went down under a challenge and Chapell
sent keeper Callum Jones the wrong way from the penalty spot. Pictured
left is Earl celebrating with both the CBC Premier trophy and the League
Cup. Here is a link to video of the event, courtesy of Topliss
at the Turnstiles
Penalty CONTROVERSY in a CAGEY Sunday League Cup Final
The game almost had a sensational start when the
kick-off by Earl, their skipper Johnno Williams slipped and only a foul on
Sixers Brad Howe stopped him threatening the Earl goal and the free-kick
came to nothing. The first real chance came when Sixers Leo Penty put
Chris Belshaw through, but for once the League's top scorer shot narrowly
wide.
The match winning moment came next when
Williams played a free kick down the line and as Brendon Bagley burst in
the area he went down under a challenge by Luke Allison anf referee
Aaron Hallam immediately pointed to the spot. Earl's Connor Chapell
showed how reliable he is with penalties by sending keeper Callum Jones
the wrong way to give Earl the lead. Bagley then had a chance to double
Earl's lead when he was put through, but this time keeper Jones made a
smart save to deny him. Sixers threatened at the other end when Howe
headed wide under pressure before a mazy run by George Rudd saw his shot
fly wide of the Earl goal.
Ater
the break a quick break by Earl ended with a free kick on the edge of
the area, but Chapell's shot was blocked and then cleared. The next real
chance came Sixers way when Belshaw played George Rudd in, but Earl
keeper Dylan Parkin pushed his shot out (pictured right)and
Belshaw's follow up shot was blocked by a defender. Earl countered when
Man of the Match Sam Fewkes burst through to played the ball to Scott
Ruthven but Jones was quickly off his line to block the shot.
Both team's struggled to break down stubborn
defences after that until the 5th of 7 minutes of added time saw Sixers
force a corner which was only partially cleared and when it was crossed
back in Allison headed narrowly wide. That was the last real chance and
holders Earl held on to win the trophy for the second successive time at
Bramall Lane and complete the Blades Super Draw League and Cup double
for the first time. More pictures are below courtesy of Ian Anderson,
Connor McMain and Richard Harvey..

RBL still left hanging after last gasp draw with
Jubilee –
Jubilee Rangers faced
Chapeltown RBL knowing that victory for either of them would guarantee the
winners safety and send the loser down, but after coming from behind it
looked like it would be Jubilee’s day until, in the 4th minute
of added time Morgan Cowell headed what could be a priceless equaliser
that means that safety will be decided by Jubilee’s final game of the
season at home to Eckington MW.
Relegation football has a habit of turning ordinary
afternoons into pressure cookers, and this one bubbled right to the final
whistle. RBL struck first after just nine minutes and did it in style.
Full back Mikey Vella picked the ball up 25 yards out, looked up once, and
absolutely rifled his effort into the top corner to hand RBL an early
advantage. It was the kind of strike that leaves defenders frozen like
traffic cones in a winter storm.
The opening half belonged largely to RBL. They
controlled possession, dictated the tempo, and looked the more likely side
to score again, but their inability to find a second goal kept Jubilee
hanging in the contest - that lifeline would prove crucial.
Jubilee emerged for the second half with far more
intent and gradually began to get a foothold in midfield. Their pressure
paid off in the 57th minute when Ross Lamkin bundled the ball home from a
corner to equalise, swinging momentum sharply in their favour. Jubilee
kicked on and RBL were under wave after wave of attacks. As the clock
ticked down and nerves tightened around the ground, Jubilee thought they
had completed the great escape in the 85th minute when Brendan
Reid-Flanagan raced in behind to coolly slot the ball home to give them
what looked like the winner.
But RBL were not done. Deep into stoppage time,
Morgan Cowell rose highest in the box to slam home a dramatic header in
the 93rd minute to level the game at 2-2 and send the match into chaos.
There was still time for one final twist too, as Jacob Walkland came
within inches of snatching survival for RBL, only to see his 96th
minute effort thunder against the crossbar and stay out. At full time,
neither side could fully celebrate, nor fully despair and the relegation
battle is now set to be decided in Jubilee’s final match showdown against
Eckington. Action, from Ian Anderson, is below:

Stannington Village and Wickersley CC both completed
their season by drawing1-1 with each other.
Wickersley dominated early proceedings creating 3 great chances, hitting
the post followed by some poor finishing for the others. Stannington
always dangerous and very organized and they had a few chances late on in
the first half before Adam Daughtrey put Wickersley In front with a header
from Jacob France’s ball into the box.
Second half was very end to end, but it was Stannington that started the
brightest and a penalty for handball allowed Aemad Gadour to equalise from
the spot. Wickersley got back on top and made Stannington’s keeper work
twice in quick succession before it became like basketball with both teams
trying to get a winner. Wickersley had a penalty shout for hand ball
turned down before Stannington nearly won it win the final kick of the
ball, but veteran Shaun Flynn stumbled when free 8 yards out. The result
means
Stannington stay 2nd and Wickersley 4th.

MAY - DIVISION 1 –
Loca take the title, but Wisewood make it tough
–
Loca had to
come from behind to beat AFC Wisewood 4-3 and clinch the Division 1 title
on goal difference over a Hackenthorpe that has to settle for the
Runners-up spot. Loca started off nervously and that culminated in a
missed penalty from Cammy Evans and instead it was Wisewood that, against
the odds went into half time leading 1-0 thanks to a strike from their
leading scorer Will Osgathorpe.
A few spoken words of encouragement and positivity
at half-time saw Loca’s nerves settled and they quickly got in to their
stride. A 25 yard top corner free kick goal from Ollie Grady levelled the
game at 1-1 and within 7 minutes Loca took the lead through Man of the
Match Cammy Evans, but a lapse in concentration let Osgathorpe in to score
his 14th of the season to make it 2-2. Loca upped the tempo to
get their passing game on and went 3-2 up 10 minutes later through Curt
Modest, but nerves on the sidelines were still showing until 3 minutes
later when Mitch Kent made it 4-2.
The 100 plus home crowd thought it was all over, but
Wisewood didn’t give up and Sam Civil grabbed their third to make the last
5 minutes very nervy. Loca managed them out though to claim a title for
the 2nd season in a row and go up to the CBC Premier league for the first
time.
Both Cotts FC and Kelham Island completed their
season against each other and despite goals for Cotts from Reece Rogers
and Ty Gunter, an entertaining game saw Kelham just came out on top, 3-2,
with goals from Tommy Palmer, Alex Simons and Lewis Atkins.
10 MAY -
LEADING GOALSCORERS –
Belshaw and
Liggins take the titles –
Wadsley Bridge Sixers Chris Belshaw has completed
the season as the CBC Premier and League's leading scorer with 21 goals.
Just One behind him was the Division 1's top marksman, Loca's Logan
Liggins with 20 goals, and he was just one in front of Crookes' Oli
McQuillin

The Final is at Bramall Lane on Tuesday 12 May with a 7:15 kick-off.

Stannington
secure 2nd place, Nailmakers are safe, but RBL let hanging –
Stannington Village secured the Runners-Up
spot with a narrow 1-0 victory over Chapeltown RBL. Both sides showed
real intent from the kick-off, but it was a moment of brilliance that
won it when the ball fell to Sami Eric 20 yards out and his volley gave
keeper Chris Harwood no chance. Callum Wright was a rock in the RBL
defefence, Jed Phillips drove them forward and Farbod Youseffi caused
the Stannington defence problems, but Stannington almost sealed it when
Tom Staniland's cross gave Dan White a chance, but his shot was too
close to keeper Harwood.
That result
that means Nailmakers are safe despite a heavy 7-0 defeat at already
relegated Southey Social. Jay Slocombe gave Southey a 5th minute lead
and Byron Mullen doubled it from 25 yards into the bottom corner and
Todd Guest made it three from close range before the break. The second
half started with Southey getting a fortunate fourth with an own goal
from a corner.Luke Broadbent made it five and Jack Hawkes six beore man
of the match Jack Dickens completed the scoring after his first effort
had been blocked.
Only a win
for RBL at Jubilee next Sunday will see them safe and Jubilee relegated,
but a win for Jubilee will see RBL relegated and them safe. A draw would
mean that Jubilee would have to win their final game against Eckington
to stay up and send RBL down.
3 MAY
- DIVISION 1 – Loca need 1 more win for the title –
Loca had a
convincing 7-3 win against Cotts FC. It took just 10 seconds for Cam
Evans to set man of the match Curt Modest up for the opener and Evans
made it two inside two minutes. Evans then set Logan Liggins up for his
19th of the season to make it three and it was four before the break
with a Jack Edwards goaal following a corner.
Cotts
started the second half by pulling one back through Reece Rogers, but
Loca hit back straight away when full back Danny Richards set Liggins up
for his 20th off the season. Cotts grabbed a second through Zeph
Longmore, but Oli Grady set Modest up for his second of the game before
Richards netted Loca's seventh with a cross that went over everyone and
into the net. Cotts grabbed a third consolation through Jo Moakes to
complete the scoring. Loca now need to win their final game against AFC
Wisewood next Sunday to secure the title over Hackenthorpe on goal
difference. Any other result will see Hackenthorpe take the title.

26 APRIL – CBC PREMIER –
Sixers go second and Boynton Sports are safe –
Wadsley Bridge
Sixers completed their league programme by thumping relegation threatened
Chapeltown RBL 6-1 to go second. Josh Statham gave Sixers the lead midway
through the first half and 15 minutes later Chris Belshaw doubled it.
Almost immediately Aaron Williamson produced a spectacular volley to pull
one back, but Sixers had their two goal lead back before half-time with a
Luke Allison penalty.
After the break a second penalty allowed Belshaw to
score his second and 21st of the season. As RBL wilted in the
sun, Rob Farrell made it 5-1 before Ben Southwell completed the scoring.
The two teams below Sixers both drew. Wickersley
were held 1-1 by Eckington MW. Eckington created the better chances in a
goalless first half, but it was Wickersley that went in front in the
second half when Kallum Nix’s through ball allowed Adam Daughtrey to beat
the keeper. After having one goal disallowed, Eckington finally got their
equaliser when Will Onions through ball was finished off by Joel Cousins.
Stannington Village were held 4-4 by a Jubilee
Rangers battling to get out of the drop zone. Stannington took the lead
when Tom Staniland’s cross was headed home by Niall Loughlin, but Jubilee
hit back through Adam Darton. Loughlin put Stannington back in front when
he beat two defenders before bending it in off the post from 25 yards, but
Darton struck his second to send the teams in level at the break.
The second half saw Jubilee go in front when Ross
Lamkin saw the Stannington keeper off his line and lobbed him to score,
but Stannington levelled when Sami Eric and Brad Worsfold combined to set
Charlie Shepherd up to score at the near post. Worsfold then crossed for
Aemad Gadour to head Stannington back in front, but Jubilee didn’t give up
and Leuan Toper headed home to give Jubilee a deserved point
Jubilee are still in the third relegation spot, but
RBL are only just above them, as are Nailmakers who were beaten 4-1 by
Boynton Sports. Richie Atkins gave Boynton the lead, but it was cancelled
out by Nick Owen. That was as good as it got for Nailmakers though and a
Marc Peacock double along with one for Jake Bonnett saw Boynton home and
safe from the drop.
26 APRIL - DIVISION 1 –
Mosborough are promoted and Cotts climb off the
bottom –
AFC Wisewood failed to get a team out to play
Mosborough Reds, so Reds were awarded the 3 points and that was enough to
see them promoted in 3rd place. If that match had been played and Reds
lost, Crookes had a chance to take the final spot, but they lost their
final game 5-3 at Brunsmeer. Crookes took the lead with an Oli McQuillin
strike, but Brunsmeer equalised.
Pete Smith then put Crookes back in front and
although Brunsmeer equalised just before half-time, McQuillin netted his
second and 19th of the season to give Crookes the lead a third
time. It wasn’t enough though as Brunsmeer won it with 3 second half
goals. Jake Hatton and Billy Gillott both scored
twice for Brunsmeer along with one from Billy Gillott.
Cotts climbed off the foot of the table by gaining
revenge, 3-0, over a Norton Oaks they lost to the previous week. Jacob
Lally netted two of them, with Alex Carlton the other

APRIL – CBC PREMIER – Chapeltown
take a big step towards safety –
Chapeltown
RBL came from 2 down to complete a 5 day double over Boynton Sports to
move 3 points clear of the drop and just a point behind Boynton with 2
games in hand of them. The result drags Boynton into the relegation
fight and also effectively relegates Southey Social as RBL's goal
difference is far superior than Southey's.
RBL
completed a ruthless five-day double over Boynton in a game that twisted
and turned before exploding into life in the second half. It looked like
Boynton were set for revenge early on, racing into a two-goal lead with two Richie Atkins
strikes inside the opening nine minutes. RBL were rocked, chasing
shadows, and for a while it looked like the script had flipped
completely from their previous meeting. But just before the break, the
momentum began to creak and shift. A corner caused chaos in the Boynton
box, Millen’s header somehow clawed off the line, only for Aarron
Williamson to react quickest and smash home the rebound on 43 minutes.
Lifeline grabbed, belief restored.
The second
half belonged to RBL. On 64 minutes, Charlie Cope rose like a man with
unfinished business, meeting Jay Carter’s cross with a powerful header
to level things up. From there, Boynton began to wobble, and RBL sensed
it. With 15 minutes to go, substitute Jed Phillips slipped a perfectly
weighted pass into the path of Carter, who kept his cool, rounded the
keeper, and rolled the ball into an empty net. Phillips and Carter are
pictured celebrating.
There was
still time for late drama. Boynton were handed a golden chance to
equalise from the spot on 85 minutes, but Lewis Fox had other ideas,
producing a huge penalty save to preserve RBL’s lead and with the very
last kick of the game, RBL slammed the door shut. Cope turned provider
this time, picking out Phillips, whose effort squirmed over the line to
cap a remarkable comeback. From early collapse to late control, RBL
showed resilience, quality, and a touch of chaos to seal a 4–2 win.

APRIL – COUNTY FA SUNDAY TROPHY FINAL –
Loca pay the penalty for missed chances –
Division 1 Loca FC were beaten on penalties by Barnsley's Shaw Inn in the
County FA Sunday Trophy Final at the Steel City Stadium (formerly known as
the Olympic Legacy Park}.
Loca dominated play the early
play and took a deserved lead when Logan Liggins headed a corner home.
Loca continued to dominate. Liggins missed a glorious chance to double
their lead, but some slack marking and a good finish saw Shaw Inn equalise
to send the teams into half-time all-square.
The second half continued much
the same as the first half and Loca deservedly got back in front when a
set-piece was flicked on and Michael Golland headed home, but some more
slack marking and a good piece of skill allowed Shaw Inn to draw level a
second time. Loca went flat out for a winner, but a series of missed
chances and good saves by the Shaw Inn goalkeeper and Man of the Match
Aaron Davison kept them out and the game ended 2-2, so it went to
penalties. Neither keeper got close to a save until the 12th
penalty was saved by Davison to hand the Trophy to Shaw Inn. Action from
the game is left with more pictures below, courtesy of Ian Anderson.

19 APRIL – CBC PREMIER –
Eckington beat Stannington to hand the title to Royal
Earl –
Royal Earl were crowned
Champions as Stannington Village's 5-2 defeat at Eckington meant no one
could catch Earl. Stannington had the first chance when a Connor Platts
header was tipped over the bar by the keeper, but it was Eckington that
took the lead when a quick break saw the ball crossed into the area for
Ethan Flower to slot home. Five minutes before half-time Flower doubled
the lead with a stunning long range volley and Eckington took a real
stranglehold of the game when minutes later a long throw was headed home
by Mitch Walker.
Stannington started the second
half well and pulled one back when Leo Higgins crossed for Aemad Gadour to
score, but Eckington soon restored their three goal lead when Owen Ryan
fired into an empty net after the initial effort was saved. Stannington
pulled a second back when Niall Butchart found the top corner, but it was
Eckington that had the final say when a good cross into the box was turned
into his own net by a Stannington defender. The loss meant that
Stannington could no longer catch leaders Royal Earl, but the win for
Eckington kept them in the race for the Runners-Up spot.
Wickersley CC also stayed in
the race for Runners-Up with a 3-1 victory over Woodman. Although Woodman
always looked dangerous on the break, it was Wickersley that started well
and had the lead at half-time with an Owen Kelly penalty.
The second half saw Wickersley
still on top, but the Woodman keeper kept his side in it and his efforts
were rewarded when Lemuel Chitekwe equalised.. The game became very open
at this stage, but it was Wickersley that went back in front with Kelly
grabbing his second after a good build up. A second penalty allowed Kelly
to complete his hat-trick to confirm the three points that leaves them
just a point behind second place, but it’s very tight with just 3 points
separating 4 clubs.
At the other end of the table,
Nailmakers went 6 points clear of the drop with a 2-0 victory over
relegation rivals Jubilee Rangers. Although Jubilee withstood early
pressure, Nailmakers took a half-time lead when Harry Wharam netted from a
Russ Westby corner. Nailmakers doubled their lead midway through the
second half when Adam Justice nodded in a Ryan Goodison cross and only
good defending stopped them increasing it further.
Jubilee dropped into the
bottom 3 after Chapeltown RBL's 2-1 win in the High Green derby with
Boynton Sports. RBL made the perfect start when the opening minute saw
Charlie Cope released and kept calm to beat the keeper. They doubled their
lead on 19 minutes when Mitch savage threaded a superb through ball into
the path of Aaron Williamson and he made no mistake to score his first for
the club.
Boynton quickly pulled one
back with a Tom Deighton strike to set up a nervy contest, but with Dale
Shaw marshalling the defence and Jav Heffferan barking out the
instructions in midfield like an air-traffic controller, it was RBL that
held on to take the three points that lifted them above Jubilee on goal
difference and out of the bottom three for the first time this year.
19
APRIL - DIVISION 1 –
Hackenthorpe end the season on a high and Oaks climb
off the bottom
–
Hackenthorpe completed their
games with a 2-0 victory at third place Mosborough Reds to extend their
lead at the top of Division 1 to six points. Hackenthorpe led at half-time
after Xavier Dandrade danced past three defenders before slotting home.
The result was confirmed midway through the second half when Kian Holloway
nutmegged a defender before beating the keeper.
The result meant Hackenthorpe
ended the season with a perfect all-win record away from home and they can
only be pipped to the title if Loca win both their final two games. Reds
will still be promoted if they win their final game at AFC Wisewood next
Sunday, but if they don't win, Crookes will take it if they win at
Brunsmeer.
Norton Oaks finally got some
reward for keeping going despite being rooted to the foot of the table for
most of the season when they beat Cotts FC 5-0 - a result that saw Cotts
replace Oaks at the bottom on goal difference. Jon Allen, Atty Aydinli and
Khalid Muhrez combined to cross for Andrew Bokea to give Oaks a half-time
lead.
The second half saw Tom
Blacksell claim three assists. The first saw his cross turned into his own
net by a defender and the second allowed Bokea to score his second of the
game. Joe Baker then set Bokea up to complete his hat-trick, before
Blacksell set Baker up to complete the scoring from close range.

Loca in the
final this weekend – Division
1 Loca FC will face Barnsley's Shaw Inn in the County FA Sunday Trophy
Final on Sunday 19 April at the Olympic Legacy Park, Kick-off at 10am.

they will be aiming to be our 10th winner of the Trophy.
16
APRIL – CBC PREMIER – Boynton and
Chapeltown bring their losing streaks to an end to boost survival hopes –
Boynton
Sports ended their 8 match losing streak with a crucial victory at
relegation rivals Jubilee Rangers.
From the kick off it was Boynton that took charge and they took home the
three points with two goals in each half giving them a 4-0 victory. Luke
Walker hit a debut hat-trick for them with the other coming from Lee
Jordan.
One more win could be enough for Boynton, but that defeat
leaves Jubilee only just above the bottom three and they may need to win
at least two of their last 4 games to have a chance of staying up.
Chapeltown RBL ended their 3 match losing streak and a
run of just 1 win in 12 with a 3-1 victory over another relegation
rival, Nailmakers in an entertaining contest. The breakthrough arrived
after 10 minutes and it had a touch of debut sparkle about it. Mitch
Cowlishaw, making his first appearance, threaded a clever pass through
to Adam Todd, who danced around his defender with a neat flick before
calmly slotting past the keeper to make it 1-0. Nailmakers responded
well and pulled level on 21 minutes with a Sam Read strike restoring
balance to the game just as RBL looked to be settling into their rhythm.
RBL hit back strongly though, and on 32 minutes Todd
turned provider, spotting Jacob Walkland’s run, he slipped him in and
Walkland produced a composed finish, delicately chipping the keeper from
18 yards to put RBL back in front. The lead was doubled just three
minutes later. Danny Booth picked out Charlie Cope, who took aim from 20
yards and rifled an effort beyond the helpless keeper to make it 3-1.
RBL continued to threaten after the break and could have added more
goals, with Jed Phillips coming close to extending the advantage, only
to be denied by fine goalkeeping. At the other end, Lewis Fox stood
firm, repelling everything Nailmakers threw at him to ensure RBL saw out
a vital win.
Chapeltown will probably need at least 3 more wins from
their last 5 games to have a chance of being safe and Nailmakers will
need to win at least one of their last three to improve their chances.
Towards the top of the table, Stannington Village kept
their title hopes alive with a 4-1 victory at 4th place Wickersley CC.
Stannington took the lead when a Luca DeFalci cross bundled home at the
far post by Niall Butchaart, A second soon came when another Luca
DeFalco pass allowed Joel Purkiss to finished well onto the top corner.
The third came when Niall Loughlin was brought down in the area and
Aemad Gadour finished well from the spot. Their 4th before half-time was
the goal of the game when Joel Purkiss found Niall Loughlin who ran 20
yards before he unleashed a strike from just outside the box into the
roof of the net.
After the break Wickersley came into the game morw and
pulled one back through Billy Wright, but they could only create half
chances after that and the Stannington defence hld firm to take them
back up to second place, but leaders Royal Earl will be crowned
champions for a second successive season if they win just one of their
final two games.
16
APRIL - DIVISION 1 – Hackenthorpe
back on top, but Brunsmeer push them hard –
Hackenthorpe
went back to the top of Division 1 with a hard earned, narrow 4-3
victory over a stubborn Brunsmeer. Hackenthorpe flew out of traps and
took an early lead through Leighton Sawyer slotting past the keeper.
Second goal come from Kydn Grey with a great finish from outside the box
to the bottom corner, assisted by Man of the Match James Goodwin.
Brunsmeer hit back and goals from Gaz Murdoch and Blaine Pashley
ibrought them level. Hackenthorpe went back in front when Chad Gibson
nipped in to score his 14th of the season after the keeper had saved
Nathan Hunts over head kick. Callum Foster doubled their lead when he
fired past the keeper from outside the box again. Brunsmeer didn't give
up and Charlie Wheatley scored their third but Hackenthorpe held on.

12 APRIL – CBC PREMIER –
Stannington stay in the title hunt and Southey boost
their survival hopes –
Stannington Village beat Jubilee Rangers 4-2 to keep their title hopes
alive, but leaders Royal Earl need to win just one of their final two
games to retain their title. Jubilee are fighting to stay up and took the
lead when Luke Campbell scrambled the ball home, but Stannington hit back
to level when Niall Butchart sidefooted the ball into the top corner.
Undeterred by that it was Jubilee that went into the half time break with
the lead after Alfie Smith headed home.
Stannington stepped up a gear
after the break and levelled a second time when Niall Loughins shot was
saved, but the rebound fell kindly for Leo Higgins to score. Stannington
went in front when Sami Eric robbed a defender before chipping the keeper
and the clinched the points 5 minutes from time when Tom Staniland’s free
kick was parried to Luca DeFalco and he netted his seventh of the season.
At the other end of the table,
that defeat for Jubilee boosted Southey Social’s survival hopes and they
were further boosted by a 3-1 victory over the already relegated Woodman.
Southey took a first half lead when Byron Mullen’s throw was headed on by
Kieran Hopkinson and Carlton Carty volleyed home from 6 yards.
The second half saw Southey’s
lead doubled when a Jack Dickens cross was turned into his own net by a
defender, but Woodman got back into the match with a Kai Walker strike.
Southey quickly restored their two goal lead when Mullen set Ryan Whitney
up for an easy finish and even though Carty and Dickens both hit the
woodwork Southey couldn’t add to it.
Action from the game is below - pictures from Ian Anderson

Southey were further helped by
Chapeltown RBL’s 1-0 defeat at a Wickersley CC aiming for the runner-up
spot. After a cagey, goalless first half the game sprang into life after
the break and became an end-to-end battle. Adam Todd saw his effort
cleared off the line and the game looked to be swinging RBL’s way when
Wickersley were reduced to 10 men. The Wickersley defence held firm though
and with time running out it was Wickersley that grabbed a dramatic winner
when Owen Kelly scored.
12 APRIL - DIVISION 1 – Loca are
promoted, but the chase below them goes large –
Loca
reclaimed top spot and guaranteed promotion
with a narrow 2-1 victory at AC Wisewood. They took the lead when Jamie
Goldenburgh set Cammy Evans up and found the net with a 30 yard strike,
but Wisewood levelled with an equally impressive strike by Will
Osgathorpe. Goldenburgh again provided the assist when a third impressive
strike, this time by Mitch Carlton won it for Loca to take them back to
the top and guarantee promotion.
The two
clubs chasing the final promotion
place both had big
wins. Mosborough Reds beat Kelham Island 8-1 and Crookes won 7-1 at Cotts.
Mosborough took just 6 minutes to take the lead with a Will Hotchin strike
and they soon doubled it when Ash Hotchin chipped the keeper. Will Hotchin
then netted his second when his keeper flew straight into the net. Matt
Ellis made it four with a shot from the edge of the area and it was five
before half-time when Ben Dronfield headed home.
After the break Matt Ellis
scored his second of the game to take his tally for the season to
fourteen, before Montelle netted his first goal for Mosborough to make it
seven. Billy Kitchen hit number eight before Kelham scored their
consolation through Alex Simons.
Crookes were just as
impressive in their 7-1 win at Crookes. Dylan Murphy met a cross to give
Crookes an early lead and it was doubled when Harvey Allatt met a corner
to score. Oli McQuillin made it three before half-time and both he and
Murphy scored two each to complete hat-tricks in the second half. Jake
Abrahams netted Cotts consolation.
Crookes must now rely on winning their final game and Mosborough Reds not
winning both of their final two games.

APRIL - DIVISION 1 – Barker's late
show rescues a point for Reds –
After scoring a late goal in the first half, Harry Barker scored an even
later goal in the second half to rescue a point for Mosborough Reds at
promotion rivals Loca FC. A terrific through ball from Danny Richards
allowed Cam Evans to give Loca the lead and only a last ditch tackle
stopped Michael Golland from doubling the lead. Reds grew into the game
and in the last few minutes of the first half a long throw was flicked
on for Barker to strike the ball home at the back post.
The second half saw both teams going for a winner and it looked like it
was Loca that would take maximum points when Kurtis Havenhand struck a
terrific free kick from 30 yards into the top corner. Reds kept plugging
away without testing the Loca keeper until the last minute when Barker
raced onto a through ball, rounded the keeper and coolly put the ball
into the net.
The resuult means that both Loca and Reds can still take the title and
both need just two wins to secure promotion.

MONTAGU
CUP – BIG BEN CLINCHES
BIG WIN FOR HISTORY MAKERS WICKERSLEY
–
In an endearing storyline as
old as the Mexborough Montagu Cup itself - underdogs upsetting the odds
in the big final. Well, history-makers Wickersley CC can now be added to
the list of those who have stunned the favourites on Easter Monday.
Unfancied everywhere except in their own dressing room, Wickersley
shocked the favourites Gate Inn by edging a tight final 2-1 after
extra-time in front of 1,475 at Mexborough Athletic.
They deserved it too, veteran
Ben Thornton - a big handful all game for the Gate back line - netting
the winner just five minutes from the end with the calmest of finishes.
It also completed a personal hat-trick as he was in the AFP side which
won the Mont in 2014 and 2016 (also scoring in that one). They are the
first side from Wickersley to lift the coveted trophy in the
competition’s 129 years and also the first side from the Blades Super
Draw League to do so. Consider that they knocked out local giants
Westville in the semi-final and now Gate, clear leaders of the Rotherham
Sunday League and, like Westville, through to the Sheffield Sunday
Senior Cup Final on April 19th. Some double that!
Wickersley started brightly
and got the boost of an 8th minute goal. Louis Seddons, a lively threat
throughout wide left, got clear on that side and his low ball in was
diverted into his own net by Jack Greeves with Thornton behind him
waiting to do the same. Inside 60 seconds Greeves almost redeemed
himself with a header from a corner which Pete Smith superbly turned
away.
The early setback had jolted
Gate into decisive action and they should have levelled only for Steve
Taylor to put a great chance wide. But the equaliser did come on the
half-hour, Nathan Walsh finding himself in space from a through ball. He
lifted his effort past the advancing Smith and Jordan Pilling helped
himself to one of the Mont’s easiest-ever goals from about a yard out.
Josh Hemmingway and Josh Stead both fired over, but Wickersley went
closest right on half-time, Reece Dudhill clearing off the line from a
header by Liam Tomlinson.
 The teams rather cancelled
each out in the second half, Wickersley’s teamwork nullifying the
prolific Gate attack although Greeves powered a header straight at the
keeper. Both Seddons and sub Dec Mullane, with more time than he
probably realised, could have snatched it late on for Wickersley.
Man of the Match Thornton (pictured right receiving his award) fired just over following a free-kick at the start of
extra-time and Taylor almost broke the deadlock moments after the second
period started.
With thoughts turning to
penalties and 115 minutes on the clock, a Gate threat was checked inside
the area, and from deep inside his own half, Mullane’s l ongest of long
balls drifted on the breeze, down the famous slope and, suddenly,
Thornton’s eyes lit up. He realised that the ball was carrying beyond
his marker and he eased onto it and was clear.
Breaths were held… time stood
still… but the veteran striker kept a cool head and sidefooted calmly
wide of the advancing Hayden Barnett and just inside the left hand post.
Gate looked stunned, couldn’t mount a late surge and so Wickersley went
into the history books. Thornton was named Man of the Match edging out
centre half Nathan Taylor (left) who had an outstanding game as Wickersley rose
to the occasion as a team and no one could begrudge them their triumph.

5 APRIL – CBC PREMIER –
Eckington push RBL to the edge and Sixers hold
Village –
Eckington MW came from behind to win 2-1 at a Chapeltown RBL now 6
points from safety with just one game in hand. Chapeltown got off to a flier with the wind at
their backs and Josh Nodder took full advantage when he launched the
ball from inside his own half to beat the keeper. It stayed like that
until half-time, but it all changed after the break.
Dan White ran onto a ball behind the defence to
equalise and soon after a scramble in the box wrong footed the keeper
and it allowed Aiden Horspool to net his 13th goal of the
season to give Eckington a lead the protected until the end.
Despite coming back from two down, Stannington
Village’s title chances took a blow when they were held to a 4-4 draw by
Wadsley Bridge Sixers. George Rudd fired Sixers into a 6th
minute lead, but Stannington hit back when Dan White headed home from a
Joel Purkiss corner. Stannington then went ahead when another Purkiss
corner went into the net off a defender.
It was Sixers turn to hit back with a Rob Farrell
strike and they went ahead a second time with Chris Belshaw’s 18th
league goal of the season. The CBC Premier’s leading scorer, Belshaw,
then took his tally to 19 to give Sixers a 4-2 half-time lead.
Stannington had been reduced to 10 men, but got back into it with a Luca
DeFalco penalty and they grabbed a deserved point 5 minutes from time
when a DeFalco cross was headed home by Aemad Gadour.

5 APRIL - DIVISION 1 –
Hackenthorpe are promoted, but Crookes chances take a
hit –
A Xavier Dandrade double helped Hackenthorpe to a 3-0 victory over AFC
Wisewood and confirm their promotion to the top flight. Hackenthorpe
went in front when Harrison Case whipped in a quality cross that was met
with a cool finish by Dandrade. The lead was soon doubled when a Chad
Gibson shot was saved by the keeper but Dandrade was on hand to put the
ball home with a cheeky backheel. The second half was dominated by
Hackenthorpe, but they could only add when Gibson used his pace to race
onto a terrific through ball from Aston Thompson and score.
None of the teams below the
top three can now catch Hackenthorpe after Crookes were held to a 1-1
draw at Kelham Island. Crookes took an early lead through Tom Rickers and
created lots of chances afterwards. They didn’t take them and Kelham
Island made them pay with an Alex Simons equaliser.
Crookes’ result was also good news for Loca, who
moved up to second and improve their promotion chances with a 4-1
victory at Brunsmeer. Jamie Hopkins gave Loca the lead midway through
the first half when he turned a defender before slamming the ball home
from 25 yards. Hopkins then took advantage of a defensive error to set
Logan Liggins up for an easy finish to take his tally to 18 League goals
for the season.
Loca made it 3 after the break when Cam Evans crossed
for Mitch Kent to head home and Evans again provided the assist for Curt
Modest to make it 4. Brunsmeer never gave up though and gained a
consolation when their leading scorer Gaz Murdoch scored his 13th
goal of the season.

Brandon Bags a Final spot for Earl –
Royal
Earl went through to their 4th final in 5 years after Brandon Bagley hit a
second half winner in the second semi-final against Nailmakers. Pictured
right
is Bagley on the left celebrating his winner (picture courtesy of Ian
Anderson). In difficult conditions it was Earl that struck first when a
corner was flicked onto the back post and Owen Haigh applied the finish.
Earl began to dominate and only a terrific save by Nailmakers keeper Luke
Herriott stopped Earl doubling their lead. It was quickly followed by an
even more amazing goal line block by Ryan Goodison to again keep Earl out.
As the
game approached half-time Nailmakers began to get a foothold in the game
and that continued straight after the break when Jay Glover fed Sam Read
and his shot beat the keeper to bring Nailmakers level. Both sides
continued to go toe-to-toe, but Earl eventually began to get on top and
only another great save by Herriott stopped them going back in front. He
then pushed another shot onto the bar and pushed the follow up onto the
post but Bagley was first to the rebound and he tucked the ball into the
corner of the net to give Earl a 2-1 win.

Royal
Earl will play Wadsley Bridge Sixers in the final later in the season.
29 MARCH – CBC PREMIER –
Joel Purks Stannington up and Lamkin boosts Jubilee's
survival
–
A late Joel Purkiss goal
against Boynton Sports gave Stannington Village a 3-2 win that keeps them
in the title race. Jake Gamban gave
Boynton the lead until it was cancelled out when Sam Hackett played the
ball to Aemad Gadour and he cut inside before bending the ball into the
top corner.
Boynton re-took the lead with a Jack Bennett strike
and looked as if they might hold on, but a good cross by Brad Worsfold was
volleyed home by Connor Platts and in the final minutes Gadour squared the
ball for Joel Purkiss to hit Stannington’s winner.
At the other end of the table Jubilee Rangers took a
big step towards safety as a Ross Lamkin hat-trick helped them to a 4-1
victory at Eckington MW. Jubilee looked the more likely to score and
gained a first half lead when Liam Hill-Simmons crossed for Lamkin to
score. Jubilee continued to look the more likely to score after the break
and doubled their lead when Adam Darton’s shot was saved by the keeper,
but Lamkin was on hand to push home the rebound.
Hill-Simmons then blasted home a third for Jubilee,
but Eckington pulled one back when they were awarded a penalty and Ethan
Flower beat the keeper from the spot. Any thought of a comeback was soon
quashed when Lamkin volleyed into the top corner to complete his hat-trick
and seal the points for Jubilee.
What made it better day for Jubilee was that the two
teams just below them both suffered narrow defeats. Chapeltown RBL slipped
to a narrow 2-1 home defeat against Wadsley Bridge Sixers. After a
goalless first half, Sixers should have gone in front when they were
awarded a penalty, but, for the second week in a row, RBL keeper produced
a great save to keep the game level.
From the save the ball was swept upfield and when
Charlie Cope crossed, left back Jacob Walkland was on hand to sweep the
ball home to give RBL the lead. RBL then missed several chances to double
their lead and the paid for those misses when a well worked corner routine
allowed Brad Howe to equalise and it got worse for RBL when Chris Belshaw
grabbed a winner for Sixers.
Southey Social also couldn’t keep pace with Jubilee
and suffered a 3-2 defeat at Wickersley CC. Wickersley took a deserved
lead when Matt Claxton latched onto a loose ball before firing home from
close range. Southey then grew into the game and after Jack Hawkes had
missed a sitter, a long throw into the box fell to Todd Guest and he beat
the keeper.
The second half saw Southey make a fast start and
Ryan Hall smashed the ball into the top corner from 25 yards to put them
ahead. Byron Mullen then missed a great chance to double Southey’s lead
and instead it was Wickersley that started to dominate and they equalised
with an Alex Kemp header at the back post. Hawkes then had another chance
saved by the Wickersley keeper and instead it was Wickersley that grabbed
the winner when Claxton’s overhead kick nestled in the bottom corner.
29 MARCH - DIVISION 1 –
Gibson's the guy as Hackenthorpe bust Loca's home
record –
Two late Chad Gibson goals saw leaders Hackenthorpe
end second place Loca's unbeaten home record to improve Hackenthorpe’s
chances of taking the title. That result didn’t look likely when Loca
completed a good start by taking the lead. Michael Golland headed the ball
across goal for Jamie Hopkins to smash the ball into the roof of the net
to give Loca a half-time lead.
It was a complete change in the second half with
Hackenthorpe dominating affairs. They still couldn’t break down a
resilient Loca defence until with time running out Gibson unleashed a 25
yard thunderbolt into the top corner. In the final minutes a scramble in
the box saw Travis Vintin push the ball for Gibson to hit the winner and
end Loca’s record. Loca can still overtake the leaders, but may now have
to win all their remaining games to do it.
That defeat saw Loca slip a place as Mosborough Reds
moved up to second with a 2-0 victory over Cotts. Although Cotts were
reduced to ten men they kept the game goalless until the hour mark when a
Billy Kitchen shot gave Reds the lead. Soon after a whipped in cross saw
Kitchen head his second at the front post to seal the points for Reds.
AFC Wisewood's chances of a top three finish were hit
when they lost a 3 goal lead before drawing 3-3 with Brunsmeer. Two from
Will Osgathorpe and one from Alfie Wright gave Wisewood a three goal lead
early in the second half, but Brunsmeer woke up and claimed a point thanks
to goals from Ollie Tracey, Charlie Wheatley and Brad Leather.
Jonathan Fusco hit a hat-trick as Baby Shark won 5-2
at Kelham Island. One for Fusco and one for Kenneth Obazuaye
saw the teams level at half-time. Another from Obazuaye and one from
Jahmal Riley saw the teams level at 2-2 with just 5 minutes remaining, but
a penalty turned the game Sharks way. Fusco scored twice to complete his
hat-trick with one from Jordan Slew.

MARCH – LEAGUE CUP –
Late Barnsley strike swings it for Sixers –
A
last gasp Danny Barnsley
(pictured right) strike
swung the League Cup semi-final Wadsley Bridge Sixers way against local
rivals Stannington Village. It was a game where both defences were on top
form and an
edgy first half saw just once chance when Luca DeFalco was put through,
but Sixers keeper Joel Statham came out to bloke the shot before clearing
it upfield.
The second half again saw not many chances, but after Stannington had a
period when they had more of the play, with Sixers Luke Allison, Brad Howe
and Josh Statham having more influence on the game it began to swing
Sixers way. A great strike by Jordan Stocks was brilliantly saved by
Village keeper Harley Middleton, but with the game looking certain to go
to a penalty shootout, Danny Barnsley went on a mazy run that ended with
him slamming home the winning goal. Pictures
of match action
are courtesy of Ian Anderson.
Sixers will meet either Royal
Earl or Nailmakers in the final, with Earl and Nailmakers playing their
semi-final next Sunday 29 March at Warminster Road, with an 11am kick-off.

Earl edge closer to the title, but things getting tight at the bottom
–
Royal Earl
beat Boynton Sports 2-0 to edge closer to the title. Theo Wilson opened
the scoring with a simple finish and Brandon Bagley made it 2-0 after a
mistake from keeper. If Earl win their final 3 games they will be
cvhampions.
The bottom end of the table is getting very tight
after a 2-1 defeat for Southey Social at home to Wickersley CC and
Woodman’s surprise goalless draw at Chapeltown RBL. In an entertaining
game both Southey and their visitors Wickersley had chances, but couldn't
convert until just before the break when a ball over the top left
Wickersley striker clean through, but he couldn't convert and the ball
rolled back to the edge of the box where Ben Thornton’s shot and went
through the defender’s legs on the line.
The game continued like the first half with both
teams having chances and Southey levelled the score when Jack Hawkes raced
onto a ball in the channel from Ryan Whitney and fired high into the roof
of the net. Southey then had 2 great chances. The first saw Carlton Carty
clean through, but although his shot beat the keeper it landed the wrong
side of the post. This was quickly followed by Luke Broadbent having a
close range effort well saved by the Wickersley keeper.
Wickersley then had two great chances of their own
that saw Southey keeper Harrison Lee make two quality saves, but with just
a minute on the clock Wickersley took the points when Lee could only push
a shot back into the Nathan Taylor’s path and he made no mistake from
close range.
At Chapeltown RBL, a game between the bottom two was
a tense, hard-fought encounter saw bottom club Woodman come away with a
0–0 draw. The standout moment came early on when RBL keeper Lewis Fox
pulled off a superb penalty save, diving sharply to his left to deny
Woodman and keep his side level. It proved a crucial intervention in a
game where chances were at a premium.
RBL grew into the match in the second half and came
closest to breaking the deadlock, rattling the crossbar with a powerful
effort and Javad Hefferan testing the Woodman keeper with a well-struck
shot. Despite both sides pushing, neither could find the finishing touch,
leaving it honours even at full time. Chapeltown’s only consolation was
that the point lifted them up a place above Southey, but for Woodman it
means that it fourth bottom Jubilee Rangers win one more game Woodman will
be relegated.
22 MARCH - DIVISION 1 –
Top 3 all win, but Crookes move into contention –
Leaders Hackenthorpe FC stayed top with a 4-1 victory
over Cotts. Hackenthorpe got off to a flying start, showing sharpness
early on with an opening goal from Kian Holloway. It was a composed
finish, set up nicely by Chad Gibson. The duo combined again shortly
after, with Holloway grabbing his second of the game—this time lifting a
clever lob over the goalkeeper. Cotts FC managed to pull one back before
half-time with a simple tap-in by Ty Gunter to keep them in the contest.
The second half proved to be a scrappy affair, with
Hackenthorpe creating chances, but struggling to fully capitalize.
However, the breakthrough eventually came when a move started from a saved
shot by Callum Foster, followed by good work from Lee Thompson and ended
when George Bemba rose well to head home their third goal. Hackenthorpe
sealed the victory with their fourth goal when Lee Thompson threaded a
precise pass through for Callum Foster and he made no mistake in front of
goal.
Loca stayed second with an even more convincing 9-1
win at Baby Shark. Loca came out the blocks in the first 2 minutes with a
goal from man of the match Mitch Kent assisted by Logan Liggins and
minutes later Jamie Hopkins slammed home a second. Jamie Goldenburgh made
it three with a stunning free kick for his first of the season, before
Cammy Evans set up Logan Liggins to make it four by half-time.
After the break Josh Baxter set Liggins up for his
second, before Liggins turned provider for Call Spencer to hit Loca’s
sixth. Rion Arbourn netted a penalty that turned out to be Sharks only
consolation before Hopkins set Callum Spencer up for Loca’s seventh. Evans
then provided the assist for Liggins to complete his hat-trick and the
scoring was completed when Hopkins provided the assist got Goldenburgh to
net his second.
Mosborough Reds stayed third with a narrow 3-2 win at
Brunsmeer. Both sides could only fashion half chances in a goalless first
half, but the second half was only minutes old when Gaz Murdoch gave
Brunsmeer the lead. Reds hit back immediately to level with an Alix Sorsby
free-kick. Soon after Sorsby put another effort just wide, but it didn’t
take long for their leading scorer Matt Ellis to put Reds ahead with a
header at the back post.
Brunsmeer hit back to level with a second from
Murdoch, but they were then put under intense pressure by Reds and after
going close three times, in the third minute of added time Billy Kitching
hit the winner when the keeper spilled the ball.
Crookes moved above AFC Wisewood into fourth by
beating them 4-3. Hamish Adamson gave Crookes a second minute lead
following a throw-in and Oli McQuillin doubled it soon after. A Tom
Rickers volley made it 3-0 until Jay Travis pulled one back before
half-time. McQuillin netted his second after the break and it was needed
as Wisewood pulled two back through Joe Daley and Leo Edgar, but Crookes
held on to go above their visitors.
A Kenneth Obazuaye double and one each for Sam Clark
and Alex Simmons helped Kelham Island ended a run of defeats with a 4-0
victory at Thorncliffe Villa. Dominating from start to finish, Kelham were
3-0 up at half time with some classy finishing. They added another in the
second half and perhaps should have scored more.

MARCH – SUNDAY TROPHY –
Logan’s run takes Loca to the Final –
Helped by a Logan Liggins
(pictured left)
double, Loca made it to the County FA Sunday Trophy Final with a 3-1
semi-final victory against fellow Blades Super Draw League Division 1
side Crookes. Loca went on the front foot from the start and opened the
scoring when Oli Grady was brought down in the area and Liggins put the
penalty away.
With man of the match Jamie Goldenburgh keeping Loca in control it
stayed like that until the second half and they doubled their lead when
Aaron Williamson’s cross was headed home by Liggins. Crookes never gave
up and in the last few minutes they got a lifeline when Hamish Adamson
pulled one back. They then threw everyone forward, but were inevitably
caught on the break when Cam Evans supplied the pass for Grady to clinch
Loca’s final place.
They will meet Barnsley Championship side Shaw Inn in the final on 19
April after their 3-1 victory over Thurlstone.
15 MARCH – CBC PREMIER –
Nailmakers dent Eckington’s title hopes and Cowell hit 4 for RBL –
Nailmakers moved further away from the relegation
zone by putting a big dent in Eckington MW’s title hopes with a 2-0
victory over them. Eckington should have taken the lead when they were
awarded a penalty, but Lestyn Jones spot kick was well saved by Luke
Herriott in the Nailmakers goal.
It remained goalless until the second half when Sam
Read broke the deadlock when he beat his defender in the air to head
home. It stayed like that until the final minute when Dan Beech hit a
goal of the season contender with a blockbuster from 40 yard that left
the keeper helpless.
Wadsley Bridge Sixers title hopes were also hit as
they were held to a very entertaining 3-3 draw by another relegation
battler in Jubilee Rangers. Jubilee raced into a first minute lead when
a good move was finished by Brendan Reid-Flanagan. Sixers hit back with
a Luke Beedham header from a throw in. A terrific run and by Danny
Barnsley paved the way for Chris Belshaw to then give Sixers the lead,
but Alfie Smith equalised by bundling the ball home to send the teams in
level at the break.
The second half started much like the first with
Reid-Flanagan racing through the Sixers defence to put Jubilee in front
again. With 15 minutes remaining Sixers hit back to level with a Josh
Statham strike, with a draw being the right result from a good contest.
Stannington Village made no mistake though with a 3-1
victory at a Boynton Sports that has now slipped into the bottom half.
Sami Eric gave Stannington a 20th minute lead when he
finished from the edge of the box. The lead was doubled soon after when
Luca DeFalco’s shot took a slight deflection into the bottom corner and
it was three before half time when a flick-on by DeFalco was finished by
Eric from a tight angle. Boynton never gave up and did manage a
consolation goal in the second half when Luke Highton netted for them
for the first time.
Chapeltown
RBL gave their survival hopes a boost as Morgan Cowell
(pictured right)
scored 4 in their win at Woodman. RBL took an early
lead when Adam Todd set Cowell up for his first. He netted his second
after Charlie Cope played a clever pass through the home defence and he
completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot before half-time after
Luis Afonso-Ferriera had been brought down in the area.
RBL continued on top after the break and made it four
when skipper Alex Mosley picked out Todd to finish well. Cowell
completed the scoring when he volleyed home a Jacob Walkland cross to
claim his fourth of the day.
15 MARCH - DIVISION 1 –
Hackenthorpe stay top, but crucial wins for Reds and Wisewood –
Leaders Hackenthorpe stayed top, but Mosborough Reds
kept up the chase with a narrow 1-0 win at Kelham Island. A quiet first
half ended goalless and the second was going the same way until Sam
Rowden netted his first goal for the Reds. Kelham stayed in the game and
looked a threat at times, but it was Reds that almost scored a second
when their skipper Jak Hotchin headed against the post.
AFC
Wisewood also stayed in the hunt with a much more convincing 6-1 victory
at Cotts thanks to the help of a Leo Edgar treble. Will Osgathorpe
netted two and Joe Daley hit Wisewood’s other, with Michael Blythen
netting the home side’s consolation. Pictured left is AFC Wisewood wearing a kit as
a tribute to their friend Harry Hartley who passed away in December.
Baby Shark came from behind to win 3-2 at Norton
Oaks. Goals from James Addy and Andrew Bokea gave Oaks a 2-1 lead at the
break despite Fabian Johnson’s strike for Shark, but the second half saw
strikes by Daniel Ramsey and Jerome Slew win it for Shark.

8 MARCH – CBC PREMIER –
Platts treble keeps Stannington in the hunt, but Earl still favourites –Royal
Earl will retain the title if they win their final two games after winning
2-1 at Boynton Sports. Johno Williams hit a 30 yard free kick to put Earl
ahead and Liam O Brien made it 2-0 with a simple finish. Boyton did all
they could to break the Earl defence and they finally did it late in the
game with a Jake Gamban goal, but Earl saw the game out.
Stannington Village are now
the only team that can deny Royal Earl the title after a 5-0 victory over
Southey Social. They took the lead when a corner fell to Dan White and he
volleyed high in the roof of the net. They doubled the lead before
half-time when Sam Hackett crossed for Aemad Gadour to rise well and head
over the keeper,
On the hour Joel Purkiss’ pass
allowed sub Connor Platts to net his first and soon after the same pair
combined again for Platts to tap home his second. Platts completed his
hat-rick when a cross-field ball from Tom Staniland found Purkiss and he
squared for Platts to score at the second attempt. Had it not been for
Southey’s keeper and MOM Rob Oxley making some outstanding saves the score
would have been much more
Relegation threatened
Nailmakers moved further away from the drop with a 3-1 victory over a
Woodman side now just one more result away from certain relegation.
Nailmakers started very slow and couldn't really get a foot hold in the
game then it went from bad to worse when a defensive mix up lead to Ryan
Hall giving Woodman the lead. This gave Nailmakers the kick they needed
and Andy Taylor get on the end of a cross to put the teams level at the
break.
After the break Nailmakers had
a change of shape which worked to their advantage and they took the lead
with a Dan Beech header. Shortly after it was 3-1 when Jack Joyce nodded
home from a scrabble in the box. Nailmakers kept the ball well to make
sure Woodman couldn't get back into it.
Jubilee entertained neighbours
Wadsley Bridge Sixers for a game which both sides were determined to win,
but it was Sixers that came away with the points thanks to a single George
Rudd strike. Jubilee started out of the traps fast and created plenty of
chances, but couldn’t make them count and Wadsley made them pay a great
cross in was tapped home by Rudd. Jubilee rallied and created more and
more chances but couldn’t make them count and the same story continued
into the second half but Sixers held firm to get the win.
Eckington kept up the chase
for a top three finish by edging a tight game with former champions
Chapeltown RBL 1-0. The decisive moment came midway through the first half
when after a quick break forward the ball fell to the feet of Aiden
Horspool and he rifled it home.
RBL pushed hard after the
break and created several promising chances. Afonso Ferreira twice came
closest to equalising, one effort rolled just wide of the post, while
another was denied by a strong save from the Eckington goalkeeper. Morgan
Cowell also had two good attempts in the second half as RBL increased the
pressure in search of a leveller, but Eckington held firm. At the other
end, Lewis Fox played a key role in keeping Chap RBL in the game,
producing a number of impressive saves throughout the match to prevent
Eckington from extending their lead. Despite the late pressure and several
near misses, Chap RBL couldn’t find the equaliser and Eckington held on to
secure the win.
8 MARCH - DIVISION 1 –
Hackenthorpe stay top,
but
Crookes
slip up at Reds –Leaders
Hackenthorpe came away from promotion rivals AFC Wisewood with a narrow
3-2 victory. Hackenthorpe took the lead when Aston Thompson provided the
pass for Chad Gibson tap in. They doubled their lead when a fast paced
cross from Harrison Case found a sliding Xavier Dandrade at back post.
Wisewood came out second half
with grit between their teeth and goals from Will Osgathorpe and Oliver
Scott brought them level. With game on a knife edge it could have gone
either way with game opening up and chances at both ends. None were taken
until Kydn Gray found Nathan Hunt in space, and he in turn found Xavier
Dandrade’s dancing feet in an area with legs flying all over, but he
composed himself and nestled the ball into bottom corner with his wrong
foot for the winner. Pictures
from the game shown below.
Mosborough Reds moved up to
third with a 3-1 victory over a Crookes that had a depleted squad. Goals
from Harrison Barker, Ash Hotchin and Ben Dronfield in first half put Reds
in control and although Crookes pulled one back through Oli McQuillin
mid-way through second they couldn’t breach the Reds defence again.
Brunsmeer gained their second
away win of the season in style with a 5-1 victory over Kelham Island.
Gareth Murdoch did most of the damage with four goals along with one from
Taylor Askham. Oliver Maltby netted one for Kelham mid-way through the
second half, but never really looked like getting back into the game.
Baby Shark gained their best
win of the season with a 5-1 victory over Cotts. First half goals from
Jahmal Riley, Cole Whitham and Keiron Sykes-Tobin put Shark in control.
Roma Myers and Dan Ramsey added two more after the break making Chris
Salt’s penalty for Cotts just a consolation.

1 MARCH – CBC PREMIER –
Earl make it an unlucky 13 for the rest –
Royal Earl widened their lead at the top to 13 points
with an emphatic 4-1 victory at second place Wadsley Bridge Sixers. Royal
Earl captain Joe Turner made it 1-0 after 6 mins with a header from a
corner, but Sixes hit back to level before half-time with a Kane Doughty
finish. The second half saw Earl retake the lead with a Connor Chapell
penalty before Brandon Bagley made it 3-1 with a nice finish. Ashley
Cooper made it 4-1 with a simple tap-in.
Stannington
Village lost ground in the title race when they were held to a goalless
draw by relegation threatened Nailmakers. With a very depleted Nailmakers
squad it was as expected that Stannington took the game to them, but
offered very little in the first half and it could have been Nailmakers
that took the lead when a good save stopped Jack Joyce scoring with a
header. In the second half Stannington rung in the changes, but Nailmakers
kept strong and dealt with everything, the only attempt Stannington had on
target in the half came when Luca DeFalco went through, but it was tipped
around the post by keeper Luke Herriott.
Eckington kept up the chase for a top
two finish with a hard earned 2-1 victory at Woodman. Eckington took
advantage of a Woodman having to start with 10 men and scored n the first
few minutes when a corner into the box was headed down by Lestyn Jones for
Aiden Horspool to tap home. Despite Woodman coming into the game more,
Eckington doubled their lead in the 38th minute when Horspool was played
in down the left hand side to fire home. A very competitive and even
matched second half saw Woodman scored deep into the second half when a
corner was headed home at the back post by Shaun Garwell, and they were
denied a point by a great save from a free kick. Pictures, right and
below, from this game are courtesy of Ian Anderson.

Wickersley CC produced one of their
best performances of the season to win 4-0 at a Boynton Sports pushing to
get into the top five. A first half that saw Wickersley dominate
proceedings, but just couldn't quite find that final ball or finish until
a great bit of one touch play saw James Hardemen find space and whip a
ball to the back post for Ben Thornton to finish.
It stayed like that until the second
half with Boynton starting well and pushing Wickersley back, but a good
bit of pressing then saw Liam Tomlinson win the ball high up, play a 1 -2
before finding the top corner. Wickersley then took over the game and
scored a third when a quick free kick allowed Nathan Taylor to square it
for Adam Daughtrey to score. James Hardemen wrapped the scoring up with a
tidy finish.
Jubilee climbed out of the bottom three
with their second away win of the season, 3-1 at Chapeltown RBL. RBL made
the perfect start but were ultimately undone by a clinical Jubilee side.
RBLopened the scoring when a dangerous in-swinging corner from Charlie
Cope caused problems in the six-yard box and the returning Farbod Yousefi
reacted quickest, flicking the ball in at the near post to give RBL a
deserved early lead.
It was a bright, energetic opening from
RBL, who looked sharp and organised, but Jubilee, responded with
composure. They began to control possession and found their equaliser
midway through the half, capitalising on a defensive lapse to draw level
when Ross Lamkin found himself free to head home. Jubilee got their noses
in front before the interval when Liam Hill-Simmons took matters into his
own hands and fired home a 20 yard strike to the bottom corner.
RBL pushed to get back into the
contest, showing determination and commitment, but clear-cut chances
proved hard to come by against a disciplined Jubilee defence. As the game
stretched late on, Jubilee made sure of the result with a third goal, when
some good midfield work saw a ball fired across for Luke Campbell to tap
home to put the outcome beyond doubt.

MARCH - DIVISION 1 –
Cotts give the leaders a scare –
Leaders Hackenthorpe battle to a hard-earned 1-0
victory at Cotts FC. In a scrappy contest played on a terrible pitch,
where quality had to shine through sheer determination. Despite the
conditions both teams dug deep, competed for every ball, but it was
Hackenthorpe that found the moment of quality to take the points.
The breakthrough came in the second
half when Harrison Case showed great pace to break away down the flank
before delivering a pinpoint cross into the box and waiting at the back
post was Xavier Dandrade, who kept his composure and tapped home to seal
the win. At the other end, Aston Thompson was an absolute rock once again
— dominant in the air, strong in the tackle, and organising everything in
front of him to gain a fully deserved Man of the Match award, although
Cotts veteran keeper James Newsome pushed him close.
Crookes come from behind to beat Norton
Oaks 3-1 and stay in the promotion chase. Crookes were shocked when Oaks
took the lead after a corner wasn’t cleared and James Addy tapped it in.
Crookes began to create chances and finally replied when Dylan Murphy
tapped home a cross to make it level at the break. Norton started the
second half well, but it was Crookes that eventually took the lead through
Ben Emsley from a corner. Crookes then wrapped up the points with a Cam
Ronksley volley.
Loca FC kept up their title chase with
a magnificent 7-1 victory over Kelham Island. Loca made a fast start and
Jordan Thomas, with the help of Ollie Grady, put them ahead inside 5
minutes. Curtis Modest doubled their lead soon after, set up by Djamel
Otmani. Logan Liggins made it three before halt-time from the penalty
spot.
The second half saw Jamie Hopkins, on
his return bend a 30-yard free kick into the bottom corner, before a foul
on Ollie Grady gave Liggins the chance to score his second penalty. Callum
Spencer decided subtlety was overrated and lashed one from 25 yards into
the top corner, before Kelham grabbed a consolation through Kenneth
Obazuaye, but it was Loca that completed the scoring when clever play down
the left from Michael Golland, allowed Liggins to complete his hat-trick.

FEB – SUNDAY TROPHY –
Loca turn the Tap off to reach the semi-finals –
Loca FC beat Barnsley's Darton Tap 2-0 to reach the semi-final of the
County FA Sunday Trophy. Despite a depleted squad due to
the Sheffield Derby game at Bramall Lane, Loca started the game very
brightly and took an early lead early when Logan Liggins played a
dangerous ball over the top to Cammy Evans and he expertly rifled it
past the keeper. Both teams showed the rustiness of not having played
much football since before Christmas, but one moment of team magic
from Loca came midway through the first half resulted in a goal for
Loca, only for it to be ruled out for offside.
With Loca Man of the Match Will Eades dominating from the back,
winning every header and tackle the second half started with some
early Loca dominance, but they couldn't tuen it into another goal with
players snatching at the chances. Midway through the half though a
free kick was flicked on by Ollie Grady to Todd Catling and he smashed
the ball home to double Loca's lead and seal their place in the
semi-final. Pictured after the game is Jacob Harrison, Michael
Golland, Lee Cookland, Cam Evans and Logan Liggins.
Loca's win ensures there will be a Blades Super Draw League team in the
final as they travel to fellow Division 1 team Crookes in the semi-final
on 15 March It should be a real cracker as Crookes is the only team to
have beaten Loca in the League, although Loca did beat them at home.
Crookes have scored 31 goals in the competition so far, but Loca are also
no slouches in front of goal and have scored 27 in the competition so far.

Smith strike sees Crookes through –
Crookes made it to the County FA Sunday Trophy semi-finals for the third
time and the second in three seasons as a Pete Smith
(left) strike gave them
victory over Rotherham & District Sunday League’s Shakhtar Sheffield.
Crookes looked the more likely to score in the first half, but were rocked
by a couple of injuries suffered close to the break. They still carried the
bigger threat in the second half and broke the deadlock on 70 minutes when
Hamish Adamson flicked it on for Pete Smith to head what turned out to be
the game’s only goal.
Loca’s tie with Darton Tap was
postponed and the teams will have to try again for a semi-final spot.

Belshaw at the double to see Sixers home –
On a
day when the weather once again created havoc with the fixtures, the only
CBC Premier game played saw Wadsley Bridge Sixers consolidate second place
in the table as a Chris Belshaw
(right) double helped
them to a 4-1 victory at Southey Social.
Both sides struggled to get on
top during the early exchanges, but Sixers managed to grab the opener after
30 minutes when Danny Barnsley cut inside and his deflected effort deceived
the home keeper to find the net. Sixers doubled their lead when Ethan
Wilkinson beat the full back and fired across for Chris Belshaw to turn home
on 42 mins and Leo Plenty made it 3-0 just before half time curling it in
from the edge of the area.
Southey reshuffled at half-time
and came out on the front foot. They pulled one back when substitute Todd
Guest headed home from MOM Jack Dickens’ corner. Ryan Whitney then saw his
effort beat the keeper but land the wrong side of the post and Sixers had
their keeper to thank with two fine saves from Elliot Fox. With 10 mins left
Sixers killed the game when the Southey keeper failed to collect a ball from
Brad Howe and Belshaw
nipped in to grab his second from close range.
8 FEB - DIVISION 1 –
Wisewood back in the top 3, while Murdoch goes mad for Brunsmeer –
Wisewood came from behind to
beat Norton Oaks 3-1 and go back to third in the table. Wisewood struggled
to get going was always going and it was Norton Oaks that took a half-time
lead when a short corner from Atty Aydinli was smashed in at the near post
by Tom Blacksell.
After the break Wisewood sprang
to life and although Norton made it hard work, Matt Civil equalised with
about 20 minutes left. Wisewood were then creating chances at will and Leo
Edgar scored on his debut to give Wisewood the lead before a Jake Lancini
strike made the game safe.
Brunsmeer climbed out of the
bottom three as a Gaz Murdoch hat-trick helped them to a 4-1 victory over
Cotts. Murdoch struck his first to give Brunsmeer the lead, but Cotts
dragged themselves level before half-time with a Callum Shaw strike.
Brunsmeer got on top in the second half and took the points with two more
from Murdoch and one from Jake Hatton.

FEB – CBC PREMIER –
Sixers hit six to go second, but Earl go 13 points clear –
Wadsley Bridge Sixers lived up to their name by beating Woodman 6-1 to go
second. It took Sixers just 3 minutes for Ethan Wilkinson to put Sixers in
front and another 4 minutes was enough for Danny Barnsley
(right) to make it 2-0.
Woodman didn’t cave in though and just before half-time pulled one back
with a Ryan Hall free kick.
Sixers wasted no time in the
second half and restored their two goal lead when George Rudd brought down
a high ball before slotting home. Woodman were struggling to hold their
opponents and a second o the game for Danny Barnsley came when he curled
the ball into the top corner. A fifth came soon after when Rob Farrell
scrambled the ball home before Leo Plenty completed the scoring with a 25
yard drive into the corner.
Sixers are still 13 points
behind leaders Royal Earl after Earl beat Chapeltown RBL 3-1. The first
half saw Earl make the perfect start when Theo Wilson headed home from a
corner to give his side the lead. Despite missing several key players
Chapeltown grew into the game and got a deserved equaliser when Charlie
Cope’s ree kick beat the wall and squirmed under the keeper.
Earl
soon regained the lead when they were awarded a penalty, expertly put away
by Connor Chapell (left)
and moments later Brandon Bagley netted his first for Earl to double their
lead. Chapeltown tried to get back into the game again, but the Earl
defence proved too strong and Earl took another step towards the title.
Up to fourth is Wickersley CC
after a
Ben Thornton (right)
goal gave them a narrow 1-0 victory at Jubilee Rangers. Both sides
struggle to create any chances in the first half and it was the same after
the break until Matt Claxton delivered a pinpoint cross for Thornton to
head home. Wickersley had a second disallowed for offside, but fortunate
to hold onto the points after two Jubilee efforts came back off the
woodwork.
The two other CBC Premier
games were postponed after heavy rain over the previous few days.
8 FEB - DIVISION 1 –
Wisewood hit back against Shark to share the points –
Wisewood came from two down to share the points in a 2-2 draw with Baby
Shark in the only game played in Division 1 after all the rain in the past
week. A Daniel Ramsey goal gave Shark a half-time lead and they doubled it
after the break with a Lanzel Reid strike. Shark were then reduced to ten
men after Julian Lawrence was shown a red card and Wisewood took full
advantage to claim a draw with two Will Osgathorpe strikes.
Crookes collected three points
after they were awarded victory over Brunsmeer after Brunsmeer couldn’t
raise a team. The other two Division 1 games were postponed due to the
weather over the past week.

FEB – LEAGUE CUP –
Statham treble snatches a semi final date for Sixers –
The line-up for the League Cup semi-finals was completed by CBC Premier
Wadsley Bridge Sixers after a hat-trick by centre half Josh Statham
(right) helped them to
a 6-1 victory over Division 1 Crookes on the all-weather
pitch at Hillsborough
College. They will now face a local derby in the semi-final against old
foes Stannington Village in March.
In a fast and furious start
Crookes veteran Pete Smith took advantage of a goalkeeping error to give
Crookes a shock lead on 16 minutes, but Sixers equalised when Danny
Barnsley finished off a good move. Five minutes later Sixers snatched the
lead when Statham showed he was the one when he turned home a corner.
Before Crookes could regroup George Rudd showed he’s no expendable by
adding another to make it 3-1 at half-time.
Crookes had some early
pressure in the second half, but before they could turn it up Statham got
his second by heading home from a corner to effectively make Sixers
progress into the semi-finals safe. It was no surprise that Ethan
Wilkinson added a fifth when he took advantage of chaos in the box to turn
home Ben Southwell’s cross and the blitz of goals wasn’t over as Crookes
couldn’t stop any further collateral damage when Statham showed he was no
crank by completing his hat-trick with a brilliant volley from 40 yards
for a goal of the season contender.
1 FEB – CBC PREMIER –
Southey move out of the bottom 3 for now –
The only CBC Premier game to survive the weather saw Southey Social move
out of the bottom three with a point from a 1-1 home draw with Woodman,
but Southey have played many more games than the two teams directly below
them so will not be able to relax just yet.
It was Southey that started
the quickest, but it was Woodman that took the lead when a quick break
ended with Otis Pyle scoring into the bottom corner. The Woodman keeper
was forced to make several good saves after that
and the nearest Southey got to an
equaliser in the first half was a Jay Slocombe header that came back off a
post.
Southey finally beat the
keeper soon after the break when a Jack Dickens corner was headed home by
Kieran Hopkinson. After that more Southey pressure saw new signing Luke
Bennet head over when well placed and Carlton Carty denied by the keeper’s
feet when through one-on-one. The Woodman keeper had to make mpore crucial
saves after that to earn his side just their third point of the season.
All the other CBC Premier
games were postponed after heavy rain over the previous few days.

The semi-final
draw
–
The semi-final draw was made at Bramall Lane by Lauren and Charlotte of
Sheffield United's Commercial team and it saw Stannington
Village

Bridge Sixers and Crookes,
with the other semi seeing previous winners face Royal Earl face fellow
CBC Premier side Nailmakers. The dates and venues to be decided.
25 JAN – CBC PREMIER –
Woodman hold Wickersley, but wins for Sixers and Earl –
Woodman Intake gained just
their second point of the season when they held Wickersley CC to a 2-2
draw despite playing with just 10 men for over half the game.
Wickersley dominated early exchanges and
should have gone ahead, but it was Woodman that scored against the run
of play when Kai Walker put them ahead. Just before half-time Woodman
were reduced to 10 men following a red card.
The
second half started with Wickersley on top and
they equalised with a Ben Thornton penalty. James Hardemen then put
Wickersley in front and then missed a number of chances to extend their
lead, but Woodman fought back and equalised with a Kyle Robinson
penalty.
Wadsley Bridge Sixers had a
3-2 home win over Boynton Sports. Sixers went 1-0 up after 6 mins when a
great cross from Brad Howe allowed Danny Barnsley to tap home on the
back post. An even first half saw Boynton go in level after Jake Gamban
equalised.
The second half saw Sixers
take control and went 3-1 up through a Chris Belshaw penalty on 51 mins
and a George Rudd strike just two minutes later. Boynton made a game of
it by scoring a Jack Bennett penalty in the 71st minute but Sixers were
resolute and saw the game out to earn the 3 points.
Royal Earl's charge towards
the title continued as two Matt Morton helped them to victory over
Southey Social. Southey were down to a bare 11 and Earl
should have taken the lead inside the 1st minute but fired over from
close range. Southey then missed their own chance after 5mins when Jack
Hawkes squared for Elliot Fox but he fired wide when unmarked from 8yd
out. In a tight 1st half Southey had the best chances but both Elliot
Fox and Ryan Whitney failed to convert with only the keeper to beat.
The second half started the
same of the first with Earl having the ball but not creating much and
Southey dangerous on the break. The game changed with half an hour left.
Jack Hawkes set Carlton Carty free, but with just the keeper to beat he
scuffed his effort wide. Southey were made to pay when Matt Morton
powerfully headed home a free kick. Leon Howarth doubled their lead with
the goal of the game, hitting a 25 yard free kick into top corner.
Morton then hit his second to complete the scoring.
25 JAN - DIVISION 1 –
Hackenthorpe back on top and
Reds go third –
Hackenthorpe went back to
the top with a 5-2 victory over Thorncliffe Villa. Hackenthorpe
took the lead when man of the match Leighton Sawyer,
fired in a 20-yard strike that somehow slipped past the keeper. A second
goal came from a well-worked team move, with Harrison Case cutting the
ball back perfectly for captain Travis Vintin to finish.
Villa hit back to level, first with a Dan
Ashton strike and then with a Gage Parton goal on his debut, but
Hackenthorpe went in front again before half time when Xavier D’Andrade
curled the ball into the far corner. In the second half Hackenthorpe
took full control and dominated. Callum Foster, calmly slotting home
their fourth after an assist from Fin Staniland and a fifth came soon
after, with Staniland unleashing a 20-yard strike to beat the keeper.
Mosborough Reds went up to third with a 2-0 victory at
Norton Oaks. Leading scorer Matty Ellis took just two minutes to put
Reds in front when he headed home a Ben Dronfield cross to the back
post. Reds keep then made a great save to keep his side in front before
Reds doubled their lead when a corner fell to Dronfield and although his
shot was saved by the keeper, the loose ball fell for Jamie Damms to
fire home. The second half saw both teams have chances, but with no
further goals it was Reds that went home with the points. |

18 JAN– LEAGUE CUP –
Stannington keep their hold over Eckington –
Stannington Village kept their record of never having lost to Eckington
Miners Welfare by beating them 6-2 to gain a place in the League Cup
semi-finals for the 4th year in a row and the 14th
time in total.
SVFC 6 Eckington, after
going 1-0 down SVFC equalised when Luca DeFalco scored direct from a
free kick just outside the box, it was 2-1 when Aemad Gadour set up Joel

the 28th minute when Aiden Horspool closed the keeper down for the ball
to rebound into the goal. Stannington were level soon after with a great
Luca DeFalco free kick. A mistake in the back line gifted Stannington

Joel Purkiss to slide home in the bottom corner. Stannington got a third
before half time when Niall Butchart’s corner was whipped all the way in
and over the keeper.
Stannington got a 4th in the
58th minute when Joel Purkiss’ shot brought a good save from the keeper
but the rebound was headed home by Lucas Edwards.
They made it 5-1 when Charlie
Shepherd found Sami Eric and he bent it into the bottom corner and made
it 6-1 when Sami Eric was brought down in the box and Travis Hodgson
scored from the spot. Eckington pulled one back from the spot, with Tom
Gambles with the finish.
18 JAN– SUNDAY TROPHY –
O’Grady says it’s Loca and Oli helps Crookes through –
Oli Grady with a hat-trick was the centre piece of Division 1 leaders
7-0 victory over Doncaster’s Barge Inn to put Loca through to the
quarter finals. Ollie Grady ran the game from midfield, scoring a
hat-trick and dictating the tempo and pulling strings all afternoon.
Also a special mention for Aaron Williamson, excelling in his new
centre-back role — winning everything in the air and pinging Bobby
Moore–style crossfield balls like he’s been doing it for years.
Richard Spinks rolled back
the years with safe hands and several good saves included a penalty
save. He even claimed an assist with a pinpoint long pass setting Cam
Evans away to lob the keeper from 20 yards for one of his two goals.
Mikey Meggison netted their two others as they went through to the
quarter finals for the first time.
Also through is Crookes as
Oli McQuillin hit his 17th goal in all competitions in a 2-0
victory over Rotherham’s previously unbeaten The Park Hotel. Despite
hitting the woodwork 4 times in the first half the game was goalless at
half-time. McQuillin finally broke the deadlock on the hour with a
terrific free-kick and five minutes later he then set up Dylan Murphy to
double their lead and book their place in the quarter finals.
Mosborough Reds run came to
an end though with a 3-0 defeat at another Rotherham Sunday League side,
Shakhtar Sheffield.
18 JAN – CBC PREMIER –
Earl extend their lead at the top, while Nailmakers and Wickersley win –
Royal Earl took advantage of
their two nearest challengers cup involvement by twice coming from
behind to beat Wadsley Bridge Sixers 4-2 to extend their lead at the top
of the CBC Premier to 7 points. Chris Belshaw gave Sixers a half-time
lead, but the second half was just minutes old with an Owen Haigh header
from a corner. Belshaw quickly regained Sixers lead with his second of
the game, but another corner saw Theo Wilson bring Earl level again. A
Connor Chapell free-kick then put Earl in front and they clinched the
points with one from Leon Howarth on his return to the side.
Wickersley CC climbed to 4th
with a 3-1 victory at Boynton Sports.
Wickersley started very well and were on top from the start, scoring two
quickly through Louis Seddons and Ben Thornton. Boynton finished the
first half strongly and started the second half the same. It was very
end to end and but both sides defended well. Wickersley had a chance
cleared off the line after Seddons had rounded the keeper, but it was
Boynton that got a goal back through Jack Bennett when his cross beat
everyone to go in at the back post. Wickersley had the final say though
with Dec Mullane completing the scoring when finishing a great move from
by rounding the keeper to score.
Nailmakers made it two
consecutive wins with a 5-0 victory at bottom club Woodman Intake.
Nailmakers controlled the game from the off but couldn't find the
finishing touch until a Ryan Goodinson cross found Sam Read who finished
well. They soon doubled the lead when another Goodison’s cross allowed
Tom Crick to finish from 8 yards. Nailmakers couldn’t add to it in the
first half, but within a couple minutes of the restart Harry Wharam made
it 3-0. Mason Pickering made it 4-0 and Sam Read netted his second to
finish the scoring.
Southey Social is still
looking for a first league win since early November after drawing 3-3
with a Chapeltown RBL that hasn’t won since September.
In an end to end game Southey
had the first chance to score but Jack Hawkes fired over with just the
keeper to beat. Chapeltown then had an even better chance from the
penalty spot but Chaz Tunnard’s spot kick was well saved by Southey
keeper Harrison Lee. Southey took the lead when RBL keeper Lewis Fox
produced an excellent initial stop, but Elliot Fox brought the rebound
down and squared for Jack Hawkes to fire home from 10 yards.
RBL responded positively and drew level ten minutes later when full-back
Jacob Walkland picked out Charlie Cope, and he finished emphatically on
the volley. After Southey missed a golden chance to go back in front
when Ryan Whitney had a close range effort saved, RBL turned the game
around as man of the match Alex Mosley released Cope and his terrific
curling strike clipped the post before finding the net for his second.
After the break Southey equalised when Byron Mullen won the ball before
driving into the box and squaring the ball for Elliot Fox to fire home.
Hawkes then missed another chance when with just the keeper to beat he
again fired over. It was RBL that re-took the lead when Southey failed
to clear and the and Luis Afonso-Ferreira’s incisive pass set up
Walkland, who drove a low scuffed effort found the bottom corner.
Southey weren't to be denied though and with 10 minutes left they got a
deserved equaliser when Ryan Whitney knocked the ball back for Elliot
Fox to fire into the bottom corner from just outside the box, ensuring
the points were shared at full time.
18 JAN - DIVISION 1 –
Oaks win at last, but
Hackenthorpe bitten by Shark –
Norton Oaks won for the first time this season with a 3-2 victory at
Brunsmeer.
Goals from Lewis Trevett, Will Carlisle and a
screamer from Joe Baker put Oaks 3-0 up and despite Brunsmeer fighting
back with two Gaz Murdoch goals Oaks held on for that first win.
Another surprise saw Baby
Shark stop Hackenthorpe going top by beating them 5-4.
Hackenthorpe started well and took the lead through Xav Dandrade, but
goals from Lanzel Reid and Julian Lawrence saw Shark go 2-1.
Hackenthorpe then levelled with a 25 screamer by Callum Foster and
although Shark went back in front through a Daniel Ramsey strike it was
3-3 at the break after Dandrade got his second with a great finish.
Hackenthorpe struck first in the second half through Finlay Staniland,
but Shark hit back with goals from Fabian Johnson and Keenan McKenzie to
claim a second successive win and move out of the bottom three.
Cotts also had a surprise
win, 3-1 at a foggy Kelham Island.
Cotts went ahead after 20 minutes with
a great cross from Jacob Lally met with a towering header off the cross
bar from Chris Salt. Cotts did not stop there as an 18 yard strike from
Chris Hopkins found the top corner to take them into half time 2-0 up.
Going into the second half Cotts remained on top with a powerful edge of
the box strike from Tye Gunter making it 3-0 and although Kelham got a
consolation goal through Oliver Maltby with 10 minutes to go, they never
really looked like troubling Cotts further.
AFC Wisewood missed the chance to go third when they were held to a
thrilling 4-4 draw by Thorncliffe Villa. Lucas Hiley gave Wisewood an
early lead, but it was cancelled out by a Ben Vigrass header from a Finn
Taylor free-kick. Wisewood then looked to be on course for victory when
Jak Campbell netted on his debut before Jack Casey’s cross shot found
the top corner to make it 3-1 at the break.
Villa hit back in the second half when Josh Hall netted from close
range, but he went from hero to villain by conceding a penalty that
allowed Alfie Wright to make it 4-2. A second penalty award allowed
Taylor to make it 4-3 from the spot before a calm finish from Dylan
Farmer in a crowded penalty box made the final score 4-4.

All games postponed
-
Athe League and League Cup games scheduled for today were postponed due
to the snow and icy weather.
PREVIEW OF SUNDAY 18 JANUARY
COUNTY FA SUNDAY TROPHY
Trio looking for a Quarter Final place –
Three Blades Super Draw clubs will be
looking to land a place in the County FA Sunday Trophy Quarter Finals.
Crookes look to have the most difficult task at Rotherham Sunday League
Division 2’s unbeaten leaders The Park Hotel. Crookes’ best form has
been saved for the Trophy though, scoring 29 goals in their 3 rounds so
far. They beat Earl Grey 18-0 in Round 1, Hoyland Commonb 5-3 in Round 2
and Common Miners 6-1 in Round 3.
Mosborough Reds are also away to a Rotherham Sunday League side when
they travel to Shakhtar Sheffield. Reds leading marksman Matt Ellis
scored 4 in their 6-0 home win over Full House in Round 1 and Ellis
followed this up with a hat-trick in their 4-2 home victory over ZK Dons
in Round 2. Their hero in Round 3 was Will Hotchin after he netted all
their goals in a 4-1 victory at Scawthorpe Herons.
The only one at home is our Division 1 leaders Loca FC who entertain a
Barge Inn Rangers from the Doncaster Sunday League Championship. They
have been drawn at home in every round so far, beating Langold Old Boys
3-0 in Round 1 and Horse & Groom 4-2 in Round 2. Their best win game in
Round 3 with an 11-1 thrashing of AFC Lord Nelson Reds.
LEAGUE CUP
Stannington and Eckington go head to head for a semi-final place –
Stannington and Eckington Miners Welfare go head to head for a
semi-final place in the League Cup. It looks too close to call, with
Eckington currently 2nd in the CBC Premier and Stannington 3rd.
When they met at Stannington in the League earlier this season it was
Village that game out on top 2-1 and having never previously lost to
Eckington, Village will start slight favourites to go through.
LEAGUE GAMES
Earl will hope it’s not a Bridge too far –
CBC Premier leaders Royal Earl will hope to take advantage of their
closest challengers Cup involvement to widen the gap at the top with a
home win over 4th place Wadsley Bridge Sixers. Fifth place
Boynton Sports will be hoping to move into title contention with a home
win over a Wickersley CC just a place below them.
At the other end of the
table, Nailmakers climbed out of the bottom three with their first home
victory of the season against Southey Social last time out and they will
be hoping to build on that with another victory at bottom club Woodman
Intake. That defeat left Southey in the bottom three and although they
play host to second bottom Chapeltown RBL, their visitors look to be in
a false position as they have many games in hand on most of the teams
above them and victory for RBL will lift them above Southey on goal
difference.
In Division 1, Hackenthorpe
will take over the top spot if the win their home game against third
from bottom Baby Shark. The closest game could be at Thorncliffe Villa
who will go fourth with a home win over visitors AFC Wisewood, but
victory for Wisewood would see them go into the third automatic
promotion place. Wisewood won 2-1 when they met earlier in the season,
but Thorncliffe have lost just once at home and victory for them would
put them level with third place Crookes. Elsewhere, Brunsmeer will be
expected to keep their perfect home record against bottom club Norton
Oaks and Kelham Island will hope to gain a third home win of the season
against a Cotts FC yet to gain a point away from home.

21 DEC – CBC PREMIER –
Earl widen the gap and Makers Nail it at home at last –
Royal Earl widened the gap
at the top of the CBC Premier with a narrow 2-1 victory at Chapeltown
RBL. Joe Turner opened the scoring after 20 minutes with a tap-in from a
corner and it was doubled before half time when another corner allowed
Ethan Hobson to tap the ball home. RBL responded soon after the break
when a Dave Millen header proved to powerful for the Earl keeper, but
after that pressure from RBL was repelled by the Earl defence.
At the other end of the
table, Nailmakers climbed out of the bottom three with their first home
victory of the season, 3-1 against a Southey Social who now replace them
in the bottom three. Carlton Carty gave Southey a deserved lead, but
Nailmakers grew into the game and strikes by Dan Beech and Andy Taylor
gave them a 2-1 lead at the break. Taylor added his second on the hour
mark and for once the Nailmakers defence managed to stop everything
thrown at them.
21 DEC - DIVISION 1 –
Crookes end Loca’s unbeaten
record and wins for Villa and Shark –
Oli McQullin took his League
tally to 11 with a hat-trick as Crookes ended the League’s last unbeaten
record with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Division 1 leaders Loca FC
Dylan Murphy opened the scoring with a clever finish and in spite of
some Loca pressure it was Crookes that doubled their lead when Oli
McQuillin curled the ball home. McQuillin added his second with a 30
yard effort. Crookes started on top again after the break and sealed the
points when McQuillin completed his hat-trick with 30 minutes remaining.
Thorncliffe Villa gained
their second home win of the season with a 4-1 victory over Cotts FC. It
was Cotts that struck first with a Reece Rogers header from a corner,
but Villa quickly hit back with a brilliant Josh Hall strike. Further
Villa goals came from a Lewis Wroe double and one from Oliver Cole
sealed the points.
Baby Shark also had a 4-1 a home win, over Norton Oaks.
A Jordan Slew double together with a Fabian Johnson goal gave
Shark a 3-0 lead at the break. Lanzel Reid netted Shark’s fourth before
Tom Blacksell swiveled before hitting a top corner finish for Oaks’
consolation. |

14 DEC – LEAGUE CUP –
Eckington complete the last 8 line-up –
Eckington MW completed the
last 8 line-up of the League Cup by coming from behind to beat Division
1 Brunsmeer 3-1. Brunsmeer shocked their CBC Premier opponents by taking
a 6th minute lead through Lee Clark, but Eckington levelled
on 20 inutes when a ball into the box caused confusion and a Brunsmeer
defender put it into his own goal. It stayed like that until a second
own goal gave Eckington the lead on 78 minutes before Jamie Bonsor made
sure for Ecckington with a terrific ree kick.
14 DEC – SUNDAY CUP –
Legion bow out –
The Blades Super Draw
League’s last representative in the Sunday Senior Cup fell to a narrow
3-2 defeat at Barnsley’s Caulfield FC. RBL got off to the perfect start
when Charlie Tunnard took advantage of a short back pass to calmly beat
the keeper and they almost doubled it when Charlie Cope shot narrowly
wide. Caulfield grew into the game and levelled shortly before
half-time, but the second half wasn’t too old when Luis Afonso-Ferriera
restored RBL’s lead with a clinical finish. Caulfield responded and in
the closing stages of the game they took it with two quick goals,
despite offside claims about both of them.
14 DEC – CBC PREMIER –
Earl back on top and Wickersley get back to winning ways –
Royal Earl went back to the
top of the CBC Premier with a narrow 2-1 victory over closest title
rivals Stannington Village. Ethan Hobson gave Earl the lead, tapping
home a Jonathan Williams cross. Stannington levelled after 30 minutes
when a ball from Niall Butchart found Niall Loughlin out wide and he cut
in to put the ball into the far corner. The second half was a close
affair with Joel Purkiss going close for Stannington, but it was Earl
that won it when Matt Morton was clattered in the area and Connor
Chapell stepped up to score from the spot.
Wickersley got back to
winning ways with a 5-0 victory over a Nailmakers struggling near the
foot of the table. James Hardeman gave Wickersley the lead and it took
several great saves by the Nailmakers keeper to keep his side in the
game before half-time. The second half belonged to Wickersley though and
doubles from Ben Thornton and Kallum Nix saw them comfortably home.
14 DEC - DIVISION 1 –
Loca go back to the top and Ellis
makes it a eight in a row –
Loca climbed back to the top
of Division 1 with a 3-1 victory over bottom of the table Norton Oaks.
Goals for Logan Liggins, Keiyh Eades and Liam Foulstone did the trick
for Loca, with Will Carlisle responding for Norton Oaks.
Matt Ellis scored for the 8th
League game in a row to give Mosborough Reds a narrow 3-2 victory over
Baby Shark. Lanzel Reid gave Baby Shark a first minute lead and although
Ellis scored his first to bring Reds level midway through the first
half, it was Shark that led at the interval thanks to a Charles Mazhua
strike. After the break Will Hotchin set up his brother Jak Hotchin to
head home and it was left to Ellis to net the winner after turning his
defender before scoring.
Kelham Island also gained a
narrow 3-2 victory over Thorncliffe Villa. Matt Turner and a Jack Herold
gave Kelham a three goal lead, but just bbefore the break Finn Taylor
pulled one back for Villa, curling the ball home after a brilliant solo
run. Villa put their hosts under pressure in the second half, but only
had a Danny Ashton goal to show for it.

7 DEC – LEAGUE CUP –
Earl pip Boynton and Glover Nails it at Jubilee –
Former holders Royal Earl
pipped fellow CBC Premier side Boynton Sports 3-2 to reach the
semi-finals for the fourth time in five seasons. Goals from Scott
Ruthven, Liam O’Brien and a 25 yard rocket from Ethan Hobson gave Earl a
three goal half-time lead. Boynton fought back in the second half and
Richie Atkins pulled two back with 20 minutes remaining, but Earl
managed to hold on.
Joining them is Nailmakers
after they put their poor league form behind them to win 5-1 at Jubilee
Rangers in another all-CBC Premier tie. Jay Glover opened the scoring
for Nailmakers and Sam Read took advantage of a defensive error to make
it 2-0 at half-time. After withstanding some early pressure after the
break a Harry Wharam header made it three and Glover netted his second
to make it four. Brendan Reid-Flanagan pulled one back for Jubilee, but
any thoughts of a comeback disappeared when Glover completed his
hat-trick.
7 DEC – SUNDAY TROPHY –
Baby Shark go out in a thriller –
Baby Shark went out of the
County FA Sunday Trophy after losing a real thriller at Darton Tap.
Three goals from Jerome Slew, Declan Spalding and Lewis Worrall wasn’t
quite enough as Darton won 4-3.
7 DEC – CBC PREMIER –
Eckington pip Southey to go top and Sixers beat Wickersley again –
The CBC Premier has new
leaders after Eckington MW pipped Southey Social to go top. Midway
through the first half Adam Stubbs was put through and he prodded
Eckington into the lead from an angle. Southey equalized soon after
half-time with a Jack Hawkes goal, but Eckington regained the lead when
Aiden Horspool chased the keeper down to win the ball and tap into an
empty net. Eckington then doubled their lead when Alex Barton slotted
home, but Southey didn’t give up and pulled one back through Roan Heeley
to give Eckington a nervy last ten minutes.
Wadsley Bridge Sixers moved
up to fourth by completing an 8-day double over Wickersley CC with a 2-1
victory. Wickersley took the lead with a James Hardeman strike, but
Sixers hit back with a Chris Belshaw strike and on the hour mark they
won it with a Brad Howe goal.
7 DEC - DIVISION 1 –
Hackenthorpe go top and Oaks earn
their first point –
Despite being held to a 3-3
draw by in-form Mosborough Reds, the point Hackenthorpe took was enough
to send them top. An early penalty allowed Matt Ellis to give Reds the
lead from the spot and he doubled it
after 30 minutes when he headed home after a Sorsby effort came
back off the post. Harrison Case pulled one back with the goal of the
game for Hackenthorpe, but Ellis completed his hat-trick to restore Reds two goal lead.
Reds keeper Luke Fogg made a great save to maintain it for half-time,
but
Callum Foster pulled one back
for Hackenthorpe soon after the interval and
Case grabbed
his second to
equalize on the hour to give Hackenthorpe a deserved point and top spot.
At the foot of the table,
Norton Oaks took their first point of the season after earning a 1-1
draw at promotion chasing Crookes. After a goalless first half, soon
after the break, Dan Hartley tackled the keeper and the ball fell to Tom
Blacksell who curled the ball in. Crookes hit back to level with a
Hamish Adamson goal but Oaks deservedly held on for that first point.

30 NOV – SUNDAY TROPHY –
Loca and Crookes go through with goals a plenty –
Loca and Crookes join
Mosborough Reds in Round 4 after convincing wins, but Baby Shark’s game
was postponed for a third time. Loca brushed Rotherham League AFC Lord
Nelson Reds aside netting eleven time with an Oli Grady hat-trick,
doubles for Jamal Otmani and Callum Spencers, with one each for Logan
Liggins, Michael Meggison, Keith Eaton and Cameron Evans.
Crookes made it 29 goals in
the three rounds with a 6-1 victory over Barnsley’s Common Miners. Dylan
Murphy gave Crookes the lead after just two minutes and it was one-way
traffic after that. Cameron Ronksley headed a second, Oli McQuillin made
it three with a terrific free-kick and his brother Mason made it four
before the break. Ronksley netted his second soon after half-time and
although Miners pulled one back, Crookes had the final say with a Henry
Curry strike at the back post.
Baby Shark will have to try
again after their tie against Darton Tap was postponed for a third time
30 NOV – CBC PREMIER –
Earl go down to Miners as Village go level at the top –
Royal Earl’s place at the
top of the table has come under increasing threat after third place
Eckington MW ended Earl’s unbeaten home record with a 3-0 victory and
became the first team in over 4 years to prevent Earl from scoring in a
home game. Eckington took an early lead when a cross was headed home by
Owen Ryan to score in his fourth consecutive game. Eckington doubled
their lead on the half hour when Aiden Horspool tapped home from close
range. The final goal came 12 minbutes from tim when Dan White was put
through and he slid the ball home.
Stannington Village moved
level on points and with a game in hand by beating Nailmakers 5-2.
Village took the lead when a Luca DeFalco cross has headed home by Aemad
Gadour at the back post and they doubled it when Niall Loughlin was
felled in the area and Charlie Hobson scored from the spot. An own goal
saw Nailmakers pull one back before half-time and Jay Glover scored to
bring Nailmakers level. Village took the lead again when Joel Purkiss
and Leo Higgins set DeFalco up to score and they made it 4-2 when
Purkiss crossed for Higgins to score. Harley Scholey completed the
scoring with an exquisite chip over the keeper.
Boynton Sports moved up to
fourth as a Ty Brookes treble helped them to a 3-2 victory at Southey
Social. Southey had the first chances with both Jack Hawkes and Byron
Mullen wasting good opportunities. They were made to pay when Brookes
stabbed home his first from close range and only a great save by
Harrison Lee in the Southey net stopped them falling further behind.
The second half started with
Brookes netting his second from distance, but Southey got back into it
when Todd Guest flicked home a long throw at the near post. They
equalized when Carlton Carty cut inside to score from the edge of the
area, but it was Boynton that went home with all three points when
Brookes completed his hat-trick with just 3 minutes remaining.
Wickersley CC lost ground
after their 3-1 home defeat by Wadsley Bridge Sixers. Wickersley
dominated the first half and took the lead with a great finish from
Bailey Wright, but just before the break Sixers equalized with a long
range shot from George Utley. George Rudd put Sixers ahead on the hour
mark and Chris Belshaw wrapped up the points with Sixers third 5 minutes
from time.
Jubilee Rangers eased their
relegation fears with a 2-1 victory at Woodman Intake. Woodman have been
something of a bogey side to Jubilee and it looked like it might happen
again after Jubilee missed a few good chances, but just before hal-time
Josh Reaney crossed for Sam Phillips to give Jubilee a half-time lead
with his weaker foot. Woodman responded and Elliott Coles brought them
level, but just as time was running out it was Jubilee that netted the
winner when a quick free-kick by Luke Campbell allowed Phillips to net
his second.
30 NOV - DIVISION 1 –
Wisewood left in the Red, but Kelham on the rise –
AFC Wisewood missed the
chance to go level with the leaders when they were soundly beaten 4-0 by
in-form Mosborough Reds. Reds pressed from the start and only a double
save by the keeper kept them out, but even he couldn’t stop Jamie Damms
heading home from a Kurt Ward corner. Matt Ellis then got on the end of
a clearance to double Reds lead and a great through ball allowed Ryan
Greaves to make it three before half-time. The second half started with
Will Hotchin netting Reds fourth and even when Wisewood were awarded two
penalties, they were both saved by Reds keeper Luke Fogg.
Kelham Island moved out of the bottom three by coming
from behind to beat Norton Oaks. It was Oaks that led at half-time after
a corner form Sam Hoche was headed in at the back post by Will Carlisle.
After the break it was Kelham that claimed the points with goals from
Alex Simmons, Callum Bethel and Jack Herold from two long throws and a
deep cross. |

Reds show where there's a Will there's a way
–
In one of the few Sunday Trophy ties to survive the weather, Will
Hotchin scored all Mosborough Reds four goals in an impressive 4-1 win
at Scawthorpe Herons. Herons had already struck the bar before taking
the lead, but Reds equalised in added time of the first half when
Hotchin stole in at the back post to score. The second half saw Hotchin
at it again with a lovely half volley putting Reds in front. He then
completed his hat-trick with a free-kick from the edge of the area and
in the final minutes he added his fourth
16 NOV - CBC PREMIER
–
Morton hits the Nail on the head –
Matt Morton helped himself to 4 first half goals as leaders Royal
Earl maintained top spot with a convincing 6-0 victory over Nailmakers.
A deflected long range shot from Jay Evison made it 1-0. Then it was the
Matt Morton show in the first half, scoring 4 to make it 5-0 at
half-time. The pick of the goals came from a quality ball from Johno
Williams and Morton climbed highest to tower a header home. Nailmakers
did much better in the second half, but couldn’t stop Tom Bishop making
it 6-0 towards end of the match.
Despite letting a 3 goal lead slip Wadsley Bridge Sixers grabbed a
4-3 victory at Woodman thanks to a Chris Belshaw hat-trick. A Chris
Belshaw brace and a George Rudd goal in the first half gave Sixers a 3-0
lead, but just before the break Woodman pulled one back with a Kyle
Robinson penalty. That gave Woodman the impetuous and they fought back
to level with Florent Fadinga and Elliott Coles strikes, but Chris
Belshaw completed his hat-trick in the dying minutes win the game for
Sixers.
Stannington Village got back to winning ways with a hard earned 2-1
victory over Eckington MW. Stannington took the lead when a Luca DeFalco
cross saw Aemad Gadour rise well to head in the roof of the net.
Eckington equalised in the 21st minute when a cross into the box was
fumbled and Owen Ryan tapped home. Stannington's winner in the second
half when Gadour's pass into the path of Joel Purkiss allowed him to
finish well in the top corner.
With all the goals coming in the first half Jubilee Rangers and
Southey Social took home a point after a 2-2 draw. Southey took the lead
inside a minute when Carlton Carty slipped in Ryan Whitney and he fired
home from inside the box, but the lead lasted just 5 mins when Carty
gave the ball away and Jubilee capitalised with Ross Lamkin scoring to
make it 1-1. Southey then regained the lead when Carty played the ball
to Keanen Wainwright and he curled a superb 25yd finish into the top
corner, but once again Jubilee equalised when a long ball wasnt cut out
and the Lamkin poked home from.close range at the second attempt. Both
sides cancelled each other out in the second half but Southey had should
have scored when Jack Hawks brought the ball down in the box only for
the Jubilee keeper to save his shot with his legs. Then after a great
passing move the ball was squared to. Ryan Whitney unmarked in the box
but he fired over. Then with a minute left a ball over the top found
Carty who cut inside, but the keeper got something on his shot and the
defender cleared off the line.
16 NOV - DIVISION 1 –
Hackenthorpe Raynes supreme and Wisewood blast off –
Hackenthorpe keep the pressure on the leaders With a man of the
match performance from Regan Raynes, Hackenthorpe continued their
winning streak with a 6-1 victory at Norton Oaks. Hackenthorpe took the
lead early on with a corner from Harrison Case headed in by Harvey
Staniland, but they couldn't add to it before half-time and it was Oaks
that created the better chances.
The second half started with Hackenthorpe captain Chad Gibson
doubling his side's lead after a great run down the wing by Callum
Foster, but Norton Oaks grabbed one back when Joe Baker scored straight
from a corner. It stayed like that until the last 15 minutes when
Hackenthorpe scored a third from a beautiful strike from Case They added
a fourth with a counter attack goal from Kian Holloway assisted by
keeper Finn Jones' with a great ball. A fifth goal was from Foster who
rounded keeper and slotted home assisted by a great ball through by
Travis Vintin. Hackenthorpe then finished the game off with a the final
goal scored by Holloway for his second with a great strike into top
corner
AFC Wisewood made a blistering start at Kelham Island, going 4-0 up
in the first 10 minutes with two each for Matt Civil and Ollie Scott.

goal through Kenneth Obazauye they piled the pressure on but couldn’t
score add to it and Wisewood ran out 4-1 winners.

9 NOV - CBC PREMIER
–
Stannington;s title hopes hit for Sixers in a day of top performances –
Wadsley Bridge Sixers were one of a few teams to produce one of
their best performances of the season to come from behind to beat second
place Stannington Village 3-2. A strong first half from Sixers got its
reward just before halftime with a Aaron Statham thunderbolt into the
roof of the net to put them ahead. Stannington hit back after the break
and equalised when a long throw fell to Luca DeFalco who finished well
in the bottom corner. They then went ahead when Brad Worsfold went in
for a challenge and the ball looped over the keeper. Sixers rallied
round though and two well taken goals by Chris Belshaw gave them a
deserved victory.
Southey Social also produced a top performance as they came from
behind to win 3-1 at Boynton Sports. Boynton had the early pressure and
took the lead after 20min when a cross was poked home at the back post
by Jake Gamban. It stayed like that until half-time after Ryan Whitney
fired over Southey's best chance of the half. Southey were level within
5mins of the restart when Carlton Carty raced away and fired home left
footed from a tight angle. Southey were on top but Boynton were
dangerous on the break but two Southey substitues changed the game.
First Jack Hawkes controlled the ball on his chest and fired home from
20yd with 10min left before Daniel Jenkinson added a late 3rd as he
brought the ball down cut inside and rolled the ball.past the keeper
from 12 yards.
Wickersley CC produced one of their best performances of the season
to win 4-1 at high-flying Eckington MW. Wickersley got off to a flyer
with James Hardemen giving them a first minute lead, but just two
minutes later Eckington equalised when a great cross field ball from
Alister Haydock allowed Owen Ryan to hit a low shot into the far corner.
Wickersley responded and got back on top with two Ben Thornton strikes
giving them a 3-1 lead at the break. Wickersley soon added a fourth
through Jordan Thomas. Eckington did everything to get back into it, but
Wickersley defended well to keep the three points.
Another to produce one of their best performances of the season was
Jubilee Rangers as they ran out 4-0 winners at home to Nailmakers. The
game started with Jubilee on top and after a couple of chances came and
went a long ball over the full back saw Luke Campbell jink his way into
the box and deliver an inch perfect cross for Brendan Reid-Flanagan to
fire home to give Jubilee a half-time lead. Nailmakers tried to get
themselves going after the break, but Jubilee kept a solid defence
before extending their lead when a free kick from Jack Shaw allowed
debut man Tom Davage to ghosted in and head home. A third goal came when
some neat work from Ross Lamkin down the left saw a cross fired over to
Luke Campbell score. The scoring was completed when Reid-Flanagan beat a
defender before rounding the keeper down and rolling the ball into the
empty goal.
9 NOV - DIVISION 1 –
Crookes hit a magnificent 7, but top two also win –
After trailing to a Kenneth Obazuaye goal at half-time, Crookes
produced a stunning second half to beat Kelham Island 7-1. After the
break Man of the Match Oli Mcquillin scored 2 quick goals to put Crookes
ahead. Peter Smith added a third before Harvey Allatt made it four from
a corner. Mason Mcquillin came off to bench to make it five before
brother Oli Mcquillin completed his hat trick with a lovely finish.
Smith then finished it off with a rocket from just inside the box.
Hackenthorpe took another 3 points with a 2-0 victory over Norton
Oaks. Hackenthorpe took a first half lead when a Kian Holloway ball
inside the defenders allowed skipper Chad Gibson to score. Hackenthorpe
dominated the second half and scored a second goal when a through ball
from Nathan Hunt was finished by Holloway. A special mention to keeper
Finn Jones who kept another clean sheet and dominated his box, but Man
of the match goes to Aston Thompson for the second week running
commanding his defensive role once again. Hackenthorpe also wanted to
thank Silkstone Arms, Sheffield for hosting us and our sponsors DBG
GROUP, Sheffield Van Hire Ltd, Green Bros Ltd and TG DECORATORS.
Leaders Loca arguably produced their most complete game to beat
Brunsmeer 5-1. Doubles from Logan Liggins and Oli Grady along with one
from Will Eades had them in complete control until Brunsmeer gained a
late consolation from Jake Hatton.
Mosborough Reds kept their recent good form going to win 3-1 at
Thorncliffe Villa. After a goalless first half, quick goals from Ben
Dronfield, Matt Ellis and Wil Hotchin put them inn command despite a
late Wood consolation for Villa.
A Matt Civil hat-trick helped AFC Wisewood to an impressive 6-2
victory over Cotts. Wisewood's others came from an Osgathorpe double and
one from Hiley, with Chris Salt netting both for Cotts.

NOV – LEAGUE CUP –
Draw for the League Cup Quarter Finals
–
The League Cup Quarter Final draw was
made by Yorkshire Post reporter Stuart Rayner (pictured left) and CBC
Premier Leaders Royal Earl were drawn at home to their fellow CBC
Premier side, Boynton Sports, that knocked out the holders Chapeltown
RBL in the previous round. Another all-CBC Premier tie sees Jubilee
Rangers play host to Nailmakers and there could be another if Eckington
MW overcome Division 1 Brunsmeer in their delayed Round 2 tie. The only
Division 1 team definitely through is Crookes and they will travel to
CBC Premier Wadsley Bridge Sixers. The full draw is: Jubilee Rangers v
Nailmakers; Royal Earl v Boynton Sports; Stannington Village v Brunsmeer
or Eckington MW; WB Sixers v Crookes. The
ties will be played on various dates during December and January.
2 NOV – LEAGUE CUP –
Five out of the eight ties decided by penalties as the holders go out –
5 of the 8 League Cup ties
played couldn’t have been any closer and had to be decided by penalties,
one of which saw holders Chapeltown RBL go out to fellow CBC Premier
side Boynton Sports. It was a game of few chances in the Thorncliffe
derby, RBL had 2 half chances in the first half that they didn’t take as
both defences were on top. The second half continued in the same vein
although Boynton nearly nicked it in the end as a goalmouth scramble was
only ended by keeper Fox pouncing on the ball to take the game to pens
with Boynton progressing to the next round after keeper Jenson Beever
saved two penalties to help his side through.
Another all CBC Premier tie
saw Jubilee Rangers go through at Southey Social on penalties after a
thrilling 3-3 draw. Southey were denied the lead in the 1st minute when
the Jubilee keeper James Gamble produced an unbelievable save, tipping
Carlton Cartys close range strike onto the bar. Southey continued to
dominate and took the lead after 15mins when Keanan Wainwright ran onto
Carty’s pass and slotted home pass the keeper. Jubilee were gifted an
equalizer before half-time when Jamie Hopkins’ back pass was too short
and Reece James got lucky with the rebound off the keeper to roll the
ball into the empty net.
Southey came out of the
blocks in the second half and Hopkins made amends for his error when he
held of the defender and fired home to put Southey back in front. Carty
and Ryan Whitney then missed golden chances before Carty fired home from
a tight angle to make it 3-1. Southey looked to be cruising through but
with 7mins left on the clock a long ball wasn’t cut out and Adam Darton
scored to put Jubilee back in it.
With the game nearly done
the Southey Keeper punched a cross clear, but it fell to Darton and he
levelled with seconds left. That took the game to penalties and once
again Jubilee keeper James Gamble was the hero making the final save to
put Jubliee through.
CBC Premier Nailmakers also
needed penalties to overcome Division 1 Baby Shark. Baby Shark started
the brightest and deservedly took the led through a Josh Foster strike,
Nailmakers then settled and starting creating chances and were level on
the half hour through an Adam Justice effort which went over the keeper
from the edge of the area. After that both sides created chances but
none were taken for the rest of game. Baby Shark came the closest but an
excellent Sam Beech goal line clearance made sure the game went to
penalties, Nailmakers scored all 4 through Russ Hobson, Nicky Owen, Jay
Glover and Russ Westby but the hero was Henry Stepney who saved 2 of the
4 Shark penalties
An all-Division 1 tie saw
Crookes win a penalty shoot-out against Thorncliffe Villa. After a
goalless first half, Crookes wasted no time to take the lead with an
Oliver McQuillin strike. That stirred Villa into action and the
equaliser came ten minutes from time when good work between Stocks and
Wroe on the left presented a chance for Dan Ashton to force home from
18yds. That took it to penalties which was won 4-3 by Crookes thanks to
two saves by keeper Harry March.
Another Division 1 penalties
winner was Brunsmeer in their delayed Round 1 tie with CBC Premier
Woodman Intake. Brunsmeer took the lead through Charlie Wheatley, but
Kyle Robinson equalized for Woodman in the last minute to take it to
penalties, which Brunsmeer won 4-3
Stannington Village had to
come from behind to beat Division 1 Hackenthorpe 3-2. Stannington took
the lead when a clearance fell to Travis Hodgson at the edge of the box
and he finished well in the corner, but the Division 1 side rallied to
equalise with Finn Jones setting up Harrison Case who smashed it into
the far corner. Hackenthorpe then took the lead with after a great team
goal with Harvey Staniland assisting Kian Holloway who sat Stannington
keeper and centre half down before tapping the ball home.
Stannington hit back in the
second half and equalised early when a Declan Pinhorn throw in was
flicked in the far corner by Luca DeFalco .Stannington’s winner came
from a quick counter attack when Aemad Gadour found DeFalco and he
blasted home into the far corner.
There was no such drama for
Wadsley Bridge Sixers as they comfortably beat Division 1 Kelham Island
6-0. Josh Statham and a George Rudd brace gave Sixers a 3 goal lead at
half-time and Statham’s second along with goals from Kane Doughty and
Rob Farrell capped off a resounding win for Sixers.
Last season’s finalists
Royal Earl saw off fellow CBC Premier Wickersley CC 4-0. Wickersley
started well and missed a few chances, but the game swung Earl’s way
when a Wickersley defender saw red for fouling Matt Morton when he was
through on goal. It changed the game and Jake Squires opened the scoring
for Earl before Morton scored with a tidy finish from a tight angle. The
goal of the game came from Tyler Bradley who curled it into the top
corner from 25 yards before Morton grabbed his second with a header at
the back post.2 NOV –
2 NOV - DIVISION 1 –
Loca open up a gap at the top & Reds win –
Leaders Loca opened up a 3
point gap at the top with a 3-1 victory at Cotts. It wasn’t easy for
Loca on a difficult pitch and it was Cotts that led at the break with a
Chris Salt strike, but 2 changes at half time and a tweak of formation
changed the course of the game. Big second half performances from Todd
Catling and Ollie Grady turned the game in Loca’s favour with goals from
Danny Richards, Cameron Evans and Grady seeing Loca home.
Mosborough Reds were also
winners, 4-1 at home to Norton Oaks. That result didn’t look likely when
Danny Lavender sent Atty Aydinli through and although his shot hit the
post it came back to him and this time he made no mistake to give Oaks
the lead. Reds then had a great chance to level when they were awarded a
penalty, but for once the reliable Matt Ellis missed from the spot.
Reds didn’t level until the
second half when Ellis made up for his miss and they quickly went in
front with a 25 yarder from Jake Leonard. Ash Hotchin soon extended the
lead with a shot that hit the post before rolling over the line and the
scoring was completed when a ball in from Will Hotchin was turned home
by Scotty Williams.

26 OCT – CBC PREMIER –
Eckington go top and Sixers get first win in style –
Eckington had 6 diffferent scorers as they beat Woodman Intake 6-1 to go
top of the CBC Premier for the first time. Eckington took the lead in
the 28th minute when a free kick was spilt by the keeper and Owen Ryan
turned the ball home. It was 2-0 just 3 minutes later when a scooped
shot from the centre was flicked home by Aiden Horspool. Woodman reduced
the deficit when a ball in behind set the winger Harry Murphy free to
apply a good finish.
Eckington regained the 2
goal cushion in the 55th minute when a corner was whipped into the box
for Mitch Walker to head home and they added a fourth when a ball was
laid back to Alex Flanagan to slot home into the corner. Lestyn Jones
made it 5-1 with a good finish into the bottom corner in the 65th minute
and Patrick Stothard completed the scoring with an effort into the top
corner from just inside the box.
Another 6 star performance
came from Wadsley Bridge Sixers as they beat Southey Social 6-0 for
their first win of the season. Chris Belshaw, Danny Barnsley and Jordan
Stocks gave Sixers a 3 goal lead at half-time and soon after the break
Southey were reduced to 10 men for two yellows for handball. Sixers took
full advantage to add three more with Belshaws second, Harley Whitehead
and Luke Allison to cap off a resounding win, which would have been more
except for some excellent saves from Harrison Lee in the Southey goal.
The day’s best game saw
Boynton Sports gain their first away win with a 5-3 victory at a
Nailmakers still to win at home. Goals from Jake Gamban, Kurtis Cockburn
and Richie Atkins gave Boynton a three goal lead at the break and a
fourth came from Curtis Priday soon after the break. Nailmakers started
a comeback with a header from Luke McKernan before Adam Justice made it
4-2 with a strike from inside the area. Jay Glover scored the goal of
the game with a strike from outside the area to make it 4-3 and the
comeback was so nearly completed when a Justice header went just the
wrong side of the post, but Boynton got all three points when Alastair
Holland scored from a set-piece.
Wickersley CC ended
Chapeltown RBL’s unbeaten home record with a 2-0 victory. Wickersley
started well and fast and went in front early through Louis Seddons. RBL
got back into it and missed a very good chance from a set piece and they
paid for it just after when Wickersley doubled their lead through
Seddons again. The second half was end to end with Wickersley having the
better chances and the RBL keeper pulling off a few great saves to keep
the score at 2-0.
26 OCT - DIVISION 1 –
Thorncliffe, Wisewood and Crookes all win to keep pressure at the
top –
Although leaders Loca gained
the expected victory over bottom club Norton Oaks, Oaks put in a
defensive masterclass at times and it wasn’t until the second half that
Loca finally went in front. They finally won it 4-0 with two goals from
Will Eades and one each for Logan Liggins and Oli Grady, but the man of
the match award must go to the Oaks keeper and the defenders in front of
him.
Three of the clubs just
behind Loca all won to keep up the pressure on them. Thornclifffe Villa
stayed third with a 4-2 victory at Cotts. Josh Hall opened the scoring
for Villa on 15 mins, before Finn Taylor and Kenzie Stocks made it 3-0.
Ty Gunter pulled one back for Cotts before half time and soon after the
break Adrew Swift put Cotts right back in the game. Villa held on though
and a second goal for Taylor made it safe for them.
AFC Wisewood are fourth
after a 3-1 home win over Kelham Island. Will Osgathorpe for Wisewood
and Josh Oreilly
for Kelham made it all square at half-time, but two second half goals
for Ollie Scott won it for Wisewood.
Crookes are fifth after a
narrow 4-3 victory over Mosborough Reds. Crookes wasted no time and
Ollie McQuillin set up his brother Mason to give them the lead inside
the first minute, but Matt Ellis soon headed Reds level from a
set-piece. The McQuillins combined again for Mason to put Crookes back
in front and Harvey Allatt scored from a corner to give Crookes a 3-1
lead at the break. The second half saw Mason McQuillin complete his
hat-trick to seemingly put Crookes in complete charge, but a corner by
William Danks-Gillott beat everyone for Reds second. With ten minutes
left Reds were awarded a penalty that was put away by Ellis to set up a
dramatic finish, but Crookes held on.
Baby Shark celebrated their
first win of the season after a narrow 3-2 victory over Brunsmeer. Goals
in the first half from Lanzel Reid and Tom Roberts and one in the second
half from James Nield-Smith proved to be just enough to overcome the two
goals from Alex McIlvanney for Brunsmeer.

19 OCT – SUNDAY TROPHY –
Ellis treble helps Reds through along with Loca, Crookes and Shark
–
Matt Ellis hit a hat-trick
as Mosborough Reds went through to Round 3 with a 4-2 victory over ZK
Dons. After Dons has hit a post it was Reds that took the lead when a
long throw from Alix Sorsby fell to Ben Dronfield and although his shot
was saved by the keeper the ball fell to Ellis to put his side ahead.
Midway through the first half a Sorsby free kick was dropped by the
keeper and Ellis tapped home his second. He then completed his hat-trick
when good footwork allowed him to score from the edge of the area.
It needed two good saves by
Luke Fogg to keep the lead intact at the break, but Dons did get one
back on the hour with a penalty and then grabbed a second to put the
Reds on edge until a Gaz Coddington goal restored their two goal lead.
Reds were again thankful to Fogg with more saves to earn their Man of
the Match award
Joining them are Crookes
after dispatching Hoyland Common 5-3. Hoyland scored in the first 5
minutes on the break from a corner, but Crookes soon levelled through
Louis Flynn. Flynn then hit his second from just outside the box to put
Crookes ahead before Tom Rose and Mason McQuillin goals made it 4-1 at
the break. Andrew Fox soon made it 5-1 and although Hoyland pulled two
back late on the result was never in doubt.
Loca beat Horse & Groom 4-2.
Loca came out of blocks on fire and their passing, movement and
possession left their
visitors dazed and had it not been for the visitors goalkeeper Loca
would have led at half time by more than the two goals from Cammy Evan’s
& Logan Liggins. Horse and Groomed stepped it up after the break and
scored twice to level the scores, but Loca switched back on and again
Cammy Evan’s & Logan Liggins both scored again to put Loca through
Baby Shark also went through
after their opponents withdrew from the competition. but Cotts went out
in a penalty shoot-out after Jacob Lally and Chris Salt goals earned
them a 2-2 draw Bradgate. A Will Osgathorpe strike wasn’t enough to stop
AFC Wisewood losing narrowly 2-1 to AFC Pogmoor and despite goals from
Matt Cooper and Amine Ben-Nasser, Kelham Island went out 5-2 at home to
Shaw Inn. Hackenthorpe were also beaten at home 3-0 by The Rig Dyke.
19 OCT – CBC PREMIER –
Eckington stun Southey and Boynton win a thriller
–
The top three all won again,
with leaders Stannington Village narrowly beating Chapeltown RBL 1-0. In
a tight game Stannington’s winner came after half an hour when a cross
from Travis Hodgson found Aemad Gadour who finished well with a volley
at the back post. Stannington then had to produce a good defensive
performance in the second half as RBL kept pressing forward.
Still level on points and
just separated by one goal is Royal Earl after they won 3-0 at
Wickersley CC with goals from Scott Ruthven, Tom Bishop and Connor
Chappel, but the pick of the wins was Eckington MW’s 5-1 victory at
Southey Social. Eckington took the lead in the 10th minute when free
kick from Alister Haydock was bent in & found it’s way into the top
corner.
Southey then hit both posts
from Ryan Whitney before Eckington doubled their lead in the 17th minute
as a long range effort from Ethan Flower found the roof of the net.
Southey were still creating
chances and pulled one back when Jack Dickens crossed for Jamie Hopkins
to fire home from 6yds out, but Eckington quickly regained their two
goal advantage in the 27th minute when good play from Lewis Spencer set
Owen Ryan free to cross and Aiden Horspool slotted home. Eckington
grabbed a 4th in the 56th minute when Horspool was knocked to the ground
but still found a way to find the net. Eckington completed the scoring
in the 81st minute, a ball into the box was tapped home by Dan White.
Just below them is Boynton
Sports after they won a thriller 6-4 against local rivals Jubilee
Rangers. Man of the Match Richie Atkins netted twice for Boynton along
with one each for Joe Damms, Smail Bytyci, John Lowe and Jake Gamban.
Even manager Simon Marsden had to turn out as Boynton had a bare 11 for
the game. Liam Hill-Simmons netted twice for Jubilee along with one each
for Smith and Josh Reaney
Nailmakers and Wadsley
Bridge Sixers shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw each other. Nailmakers
capped off a good first half with a terrific Jay Glover strike to give
them the lead, but Sixers hit back after the break and deservedly took a
point with an equally terrific Danny Barnsley free-kick from the edge of
the area.
19 OCT - DIVISION 1 –
Villa put Oaks into the Stocks to climb into title contention –
Kenzie Stocks hit a first
half hat-trick as Thorncliffe Villa won 6-0 at Norton Oaks to climb to
within two points of the leaders. Villa opened the scoring on 2 mins
with a Kenzie Stocks header from a Jack Oxley corner and the lead was
doubled on 10 mins, with a powerful shot from Stocks. A minute later, it
was 3 when new signing Ben Vigrass hit the goal of the game, a curling
effort from 20 yards finding the top corner.
Just before half time, Villa
added a fourth, a threaded ball from Blake Wightman found Stocks who
beat the keeper to complete his hat trick. After the break another
Wightman assist sent Dylan Farmer clean through to make it 5, and Dylan
Docking hit Villas 6th after the keeper spilled a shot from Farmer.

OCT – LEAGUE CUP
ROUND 2 DRAW
–
Holders
to face Boynton and Wickersley to entertain Earl
–
The draw for Round 2 of the League
Cup was made by former Notts County star Pete Terry and it saw
holders Chapeltown RBL set to face
the Boynton Sports they share their pitch with, but the tie of the round
will see two former holders meet at Wickersley CC who entertain Royal
Earl. A third all CBC Premier tie sees Jubilee Rangers visit Southey
Social. League leaders Stannington Village will entertain Division 1
Hackenthorpe FC and Nailmakers will entertain Baby Shark. One Division 1
team is certain to make the quarter finals as Crookes entertain
Thorncliffe Villa.
All ties to be played on 2 November along with the delayed Round 1 tie, Brunsmeer
v Woodman Intake. The winners of that tie will entertain Eckington MW on a
date to be decided.
12 OCT – SUNDAY CUP –
Just the Legion left after they squeeze through on pens
–
Only Chapeltown RBL survived Round 2 of the Sunday Cup and they needed
penalties to squeeze past Thorpe Hesley Village. Village took a first
minute lead when the RBL keeper Fox did well to keep out a Ward shot only
for Yates to follow up to score. Village then had chances to extend their
lead, but it was RBL that equalized when Elliott Simpson hit an exquisite
free kick past the keeper.
The second half saw Village go
back in front when Blake was dragged down bySimpson and Yates netted his
second from the penalty spot. RBL hit back when George Noble put Luis
Afonso-Ferreira through to finish in –off the post and despite going down
to 10 men they held on to take the game to penalties. Harley Wilson,
Charlie Cope, Morgan Cowell and skipper Alex Mosley all scored their
penalties to leave keeper Fox to take the plaudits with an outstanding
save to his left.
There were defeats for
Stannington Village, 4-0 at Westville, Boynton Sports, 3-0 at Edlington
Top Club, and, despite taking an early lead through Carlton Carty and
another after half-time, Southey Social went out at 7-2 at home to
Caulfield FC.
12 OCT – CBC PREMIER –
Earl back level with the leaders and Eckington stay in touch
–
Royal Earl went level at the top with a 3-1 home win over Wickersley CC.
Etan Hobson gave Earl the lead when he beat his man and finished from a
tight angle. Tyler Williams scored a debut goal when he cut in from the
left before hitting a thunderous strike from 15 yards. Joe Pearson made it
3-0 after a Sam Smith flick-on from a corner. Wickersley never gave up and
got a deserved consolation goal from Jacob France
Third place Eckington
maintained their good start with a 2-1 home win over Wadsley Bridge
Sixers. A tight first half saw both teams have chances, but just before
the interval it was Eckington that struck first when Pat Stothard finished
a quick break in the six yard box. They doubled their lead just after the
hour when Jamie Bonsor cut in from the left to hit a screamer past the
keeper, but they were made to hang on after Sixers pulled one back through
a Chris Belshaw penalty.
Jubilee Rangers and Woodman
Intake played out an entertaining 2-2 draw to give them both their first
point of the season. Jubilee were gifted the lead with an own goal, but
Woodman levelled with a Kain Murphy header. Woodman were then indebted to
their keeper Thomas Pearson for a string of saves and his work was
rewarded when Jibreal Alsubari gave Woodman the lead. They couldn’t hold
it though as Jubilee gained a deserved share of the points with a Ross
Lamkin penalty two minutes from time.
12 OCT - DIVISION 1 –
Loca and Kelham share 13 goals while Shark and Villa share 10 –
13 goals were scored as
leaders Loca won 8-5 against Kelham Island. Logan Liggins hit a hat-trick
and new signing Mikey Meggison and Oli Grady both netted two for Loca
along with a single for Curt Modest. Kelham can take some heart from the
game though after being 4-0 down at the break two from Alex Turner and one
each for
Alex Simons, Amine Ben-Nasser and
Tom Stringer saw them win the second
half 5-4!!!
Thorncliffe Villa kept their
good start going with a 6-4 victory at Baby Shark. Shark looked to be on
their way to their first points when Keiron Tobin-Sykes and Keenan
McKenzie gave them a two goal lead, but a crazy last five minutes of the
first half saw Kenzie Stocks pull one back, Finn Taylor lob a stranded
keeper from 35 yards to level and Dylan Farmer calmly beat the keeper when
through 1 on 1 with the keeper to give Villa a half-time lead.
After the break Stocks, Taylor
and Farmer all netted their second to give Villa a 6-2 lead, but the
scoring wasn’t over as Julian Lawrence and Keir Storey both found the net
for Shark.
Hackenthorpe FC had to come
from behind to stay second with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Crookes.
Dylan Murphy gave Crookes the lead but Hackenthorpe levelled when a James
Goodwin strike beat the Crookes keeper with the help of a deflection. The
winner came in the second half when Travis Vintin played a superb ball
to Goodwin who then set up Chad Gibson to score. Vintin and Ashton
Thompson were outstanding as Hackenthorpe held on for the win.
A Matt Ellis strike on the
stroke of half-time proved enough to give Mosborough Reds all three points
with a 1-0 victory at Cotts. Charlie Clark, Charlie Wheatley, Harry
Groombridge and an own goal gave Brunsmeer a 4-2 victory at Norton Oaks
despite goals from Ross Wakefield and Dan Hartley for the home side.

5 OCT – LEAGUE CUP –
Holders scrape it, but Villa through –
The holders Chapeltown RBL only had an early Charlie Tunnard penalty to
thank to go through 1-0 at Mosborough Reds. Neither side created many
chances, with Jake Leonard and Will Hotchin going closest to an equalizer
for Mosborough Reds.
The only Division 1 team
definitely through is Thorncliffe Villa after their comfortable 4-1
victory over fellow Division One side Cotts FC. Villa were on the front
foot from the start, but against the run of play it was Cotts that took a
half-time lead through a Jacob Lally strike. Villa levelled just 3 minutes
into the second half with a Mackenzie Stocks header, but it looked as if
it would go to penalties until 2 minutes from time when s Josh Hall strike
gave Villa the lead. A minute later Blake Wightman increased the lead and
a minute later Sam Harpham made it 4-1.
Division One leaders Loca FC
fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat at former holders Wickersley CC. Both sides
missed massive chances to take the lead, but when one came Ben Thornton’s
way he gave Wickersley a half-time lead. After the break it was an even
game and Loca eventually got themselves level with a Cam Evans strike. As
the game neared its end Wickersley pressure saw the force a series of
corners and James Hardeman took advantage of one to give Wickersley the
win.
AFC Wisewood also lost
narrowly, 2-1, at another former holder Nailmakers. A terrific Dan Beech
strike gave Nailmakers a half-time lead, but Wisewood levelled when a
Lucas Hiley shot was deflected past his own keeper by a defender. If that
was a bit of luck for Wisewood, the same could be said about Nailmakers
winner with a shot hitting Nicky Owen before beating the keeper.
Southey Social progressed
after Norton Oaks decided to withdraw from the cup. Wadsley Bridge Sixers
also went through against AFC Centre Spot. Woodman Intake’s tie at
Brunsmeer was postponed and will try again at a later date to be decided.
5 OCT – CBC PREMIER –
Stannington go clear at the top –
Stannington Village went 3 points clear at the top with a narrow 1-0 win
over second place Royal Earl. Leo Higgins had a 25 yarder brilliantly
tipped over the bar by the Earl keeper in the first half and Ema Gadour
should have done better with a header in the second half. Gadour also had
another header saved by the keeper, but when a Brad Worsfold corner saw
Jack Cawthorne rise majestically at the back post the Earl keeper had no
chance. Charlie Sheperd should then have double Stannington’s lead, but he
was thwarted by yet another good save by the Earl keeper. In the last 10
minutes Earl threw the kitchen sink at their hosts, but the Stannington
defence held firm to go top.
It was stalemate for Boynton
Sports and Eckington MW where the conditions were the big winners and the
game ended goalless.
5 OCT - DIVISION 1 –
Hackenthorpe just nick it, but Crookes Mac & Curry too hot for Shark –
Hackenthorpe had a narrow 2-1
victory over Kelham Island to go level on points at the top. Kelham took
the lead with a Josh O’Reilly strike when they had the better of the
conditions. The second half saw Hackenthorpe go level when Dez Windle put
skipper Chad Gibson in, and after he was brought down in the area he
picked himself up to score the penalty. With Harvey Staniland proving
influential for Hackenthorpe at both ends of the pitch, their winner came
when sub Aston Thompson turned sharply in the box to fire home the winner.
Crookes had a very comfortable
6-1 win over struggling Baby Shark to go fourth. Harvey Allatt headed
Crookes into an early lead before Henry Curry made it two. Oli McQuillin
then added two more before Curry grabbed his second. Fabian Johnson pulled
one back for Shark after the break, but McQillin had the final say by
completing his hat-trick.

Wickersley and RBL lead the goal rush –
Thirty three goals came from just 5 games with Ben Thornton scoring
twice as Wickersley CC bagged 7 in their 7-3 win over Jubilee Rangers. A
very closely contested first half finished 2-2 with Wickersley CC taking
the lead early on through James Hardemen’s header. but Jubilee rallied
when some clever play saw Ross Lamkin through on goal and he coolly
lobbed the keeper to equalize. Wickerlsey then won a penalty slotted
home by Ben Thornton, but again Jubilee rallied and Ross Lamkin tapped
home a second to mark a great debut.
After half time Wickersley
stepped on the gas with goals Louis Seddons, a second for Thornton, two
for Jacob Pearson and one for Michael Cuckson, but Jubilee had their
chances a deserved their goal of the game late on when Keegan McCormack
curled a 25 yarder into the top corner.
Mikey Vella also scored
twice as Chapeltown RBL beat Southey Social 6-0. Legion took the lead
when a Harley Wilson shot was deflected in by debutant Charlie Cope
after 8 minutes and they doubled their lead in style as Chas Tunnard
combined with Cope to set up Mikey Vella for a smart finish. Harry Hurst
made it 3 with a thumping header from a Cope corner and Southey finished
the half with 10 men after a red card.
In the second half RBL made
the extra man count, man of the match Callum Wright fed substitute
Callum Pearce who found Vella to net his second of the game. Birthday
Boy Alex Mosley then got in on the act, Pearce again showed great
strength down the right and found Mosley who curled the ball sweetly
into the bottom corner. RBL weren’t finished yet as Conner Brunt curled
in a beautiful free kick to make it six and Southey keeper Jake Danks
made some outstanding saves to keep the score down.
Aiden Horspool hit two, as
Eckington MW beat Boyton Sports 3-2. Eckington took the lead in the 6th
minute when a long ball over the top found Horspool and he took the ball
around the keeper to slot home. Eckington doubled the lead in the 20th
minute when a well worked corner fell to Owen Ryan on the edge of the
box to rifle home. John Lowe pulled one back for Boynton soon after the
break and he grabbed his second after a quick break to level the scores
in the 60th minute. Eckington gathered themselves and won it when
Horspool raced through to fire home.
Jay Glover's two goals
included a later winner as Nailmakers won 3-2 at Wadsley Bridge Sixers.
Sixers took a 2 minute lead with a George Rudd header from a set piece.
Nailmakers started playing the ball on the floor and equalized when the
keeper missed the ball and Glover tapped into an empty net. Keeper Joel
Statham then redeemed himself by brilliantly saving Dan Beech’s penalty
and his work was further rewarded when Aaron Statham scored a spot kick
to put Sixers back in front before half time. The game carried on the
even throughout the second half, but Nailmakers equalised again through
a own goal after a long throw. Both sides were looking for a winner, but
Nailmakers got it with 5 minutes to go when Glover slotted home from
just inside the area
Charlie Hobson netted two penalties as Stannington Village beat Woodman
Intake 5-2.
Stannington took the lead after 15 mins when a shot on the turn from
Luca DeFalco went under the keepers body and it was 2-0 when Sami Eric
was brought down in the area and Hobson scored from the spot. It was 3-0
after an hour when a good move ended when Declan Childers was brought
down in the box and Hobson scored from the spot again. Stannington’s
fourth came when a good move down the right found Childes and he squared
for Aemad Gadour to score with one of his first touches. They made it
five after 70 mins when the ball fell to Brad Worsfold in the box and he
finished well with his trusty left foot into the bottom corner. Woodman
gained some consolation with two late goals from Tyreece Rhule and
Jibreal Alsubar.
28 SEP - DIVISION 1 –
Pollard ends Wisewood's unbeaten record, but Loca and Brunsmeer keep
theirs –
Jim Pollard netted the
Crookes winner in a 3-2 victory that ended AFC Wisewood's unbeaten
record. Crookes started really strong Ben Emsley gave them a deserved
lead, but they went down to ten after a straight red and Wisewood took
advantage when Matt Civil equalized with the last kick of first half.
The second half saw Wisewood awarded a penalty that Jake Lancini netted
to put his side ahead, but Crookes were still dominant and on the 87th
minute Lewis Russell levelled from a Crookes corner. With just 30
seconds left Jim Pollard went one on one with the keeper to give Crookes
a deserved win.
Leaders Loca maintained
their perfect record with a convincing 6-1 victory over AFC Centre Spot.
Two goals from Logan Liggins along with one each for Cam Evans, Matty
Cummings, Oli Grady and Curt Modest saw Loca home, with Louis Turner
netting Spot’s only reply.
Brunsmeer also maintained
their unberaten start with a 1-1 draw at Cotts FC. After a goalless
first half Jacob Lally gave Cotts the lead until a Charlie Wheatley
penalty earned Brunsmeer a point. Another 1-1 draw came at Mosborough
Reds where Thorncliffe Villa were the visitors. After another goalless
first half Reds got well on top and took a deserved lead when a free
kick was headed back across the goal and bundled in by Matt Ellis. The
goal spurred Villa into action and their pressure told when Dan Ashton
was brought down in the area and he picked himself up to score from the
spot.
Hackenthorpe went second by
continuing their impressive winning streak with a commanding 5-2 victory
at struggling Baby Shark. Early pressure from Hackenthorpe saw striker
Chad Gibson open the scoring, heading home from just three yards out
after a precise cross from Harvey Staniland, but Baby Shark levelled
with an unfortunate own goal. Hackenthorpe responded quickly and Gibson
struck again, this time with an outstanding long-range finish, set up
brilliantly by Finley Staniland.
The momentum stayed with
Hackenthorpe and Callum Foster curled in a superb 20-yard free kick just
before half-time, giving them a 3–1 lead at the break. Hackenthorpe
started the second half with the same energy, and Harrison Case added to
the tally with a sensational 28-yard free kick that left the goalkeeper
no chance.
Baby Shark managed a second
from Juninho Blake and they had a chance to pull another back when they
were awarded a penalty, but their hopes were dashed when keeper Tyler
Crossland made a terrific save to keep the two-goal cushion intact. To
seal the win, Man of the Match Travis Vintin capped off a fantastic
performance with a 20 yard strike.
Kelham Island gained their
first ever league win with a 5-1 victory at Norton Oaks. A Josh O’Rielly
screamer from outside of the area gave Kelham the lead, but Oaks
levelled with a Sam Hoche penalty just before the break. The second half
saw Kelham dominate possession and gain a deserved first win with two
strikes from Pav Khaira along with one each for Connor Reid and Jake
McEnery.
