26 SEP – CBC PREMIER – Sportsman hit the top, while Sam’s the man to see Everest climb – Norton Sportsman’s 3-1 victory at Wadsley Bridge Pheasant saw them go to the top of the CBC Premier table. Sportsman suffered an early blow when star player Josh Gibson took a knock on his back and was unable to continue. Pheasant almost went ahead when Joe Slater hit the bar, but it was Sportsman that took the lead when new signing Luke Francis managed to beat a number of opposition players before unleashing a great strike into the top corner. Sportsman looked in control, but on the stroke of half time Adam Asquith grabbed an equaliser for the hosts. After the break though it was Sportsman that took control again and a long ball sent Michael Gibbons away and he squared for Brad Bowland to restore their lead. A third soon followed when a Sonny Wilson corner beat everyone and finished in the net. After that only keeper Joel Statham stopped Sportsman from making the score much more emphatic with saves from Francis, Chris Winters and Bowland.

Sam Marsden (pictured right) scored four as Handsworth Everest Inn ended previous leaders Civil Sports unbeaten record with a 7-4 victory over them. With Everest struggling for players due to lads running the Sheffield marathon veteran Lee Machin returned at left back and although it was like he'd never been away, as usual he found the back of the net, but unfortunately it was in the Everest's net. It made little difference though as Everest, inspired by stand-in gaffa Nick Garner, romped to victory. Everest’s goals came from Marsden’s four, a Kane Brown header, a Ben Shackshaft power drive and a rare Liam Greenfield free kick as most of them end up nowhere near the goal !! Civil’s other goals came from Jordan Turner, John Charles and Gary Eades.

Up to second is Stannington Village after they made no mistake with a 3-0 home win over AFC Dronfield. Stannington took the lead when a Jon Wall free kick found Jack Haslam to glance the ball into the far corner and it was two shortly after when the ball was squared back for Addie Gadour to side-foot home. The third was the pick of the goals when Jon Wall whipped in a 25 yard free kick over the wall into the top corner.

Joker Wickersley Youth gained revenge for the previous week’s defeat by Royal Earl by beating them 2-0. It took Joker just two minutes to take the lead when Leon Cusworth let fly from 25 yards and found the top corner. Joker continued to stay on top and only good saves and a clearance off the line stopped any further goals before half time. Earl’s best spell came after the break and only three good saves by Joker keeper Jamie Bailey stopped an equaliser. Joker then began to gain control and it was the Earl keeper’s turn to make a save from Liam O’Brien and O ‘Brien then had a shot deflected wide. He wasn’t to be denied a goal though and after beating his marker he slid the ball under the advancing Earl keeper. Action from the game is left.

Another away win came at Norton Oaks where four goal Max Rhodes inspired Crookes to their first league win of the season 8-2. A Pete Smith double saw Crookes take control and John Brelsford added a third before Rhodes hit his first. The second half saw Rhodes add two more before Kyle Grantham netted Oaks’ first. Liam Cartledge and Rhodes fourth completed the scoring for Crookes before Elliott Hall netted Oaks’ second.

26 SEP – DIVISION 1 – Sargent earns his stripes to send Inter top – Division One also has new leaders after a Jordan Sargent strike set FC Inter on their way to victory at Sheffield South. Despite having to play their centre half Tom Brightmore in goal and 8 players missing, Inter produced a quality performance. Sargent gave Inter the lead midway through the first half and a John Sheldon goal midway through the second sent Inter top.

Eckington are still second despite a 4-1 defeat at a Boynton Sports that moved up to third. Eckington took the lead when Joe Renshaw spun well to fire home, but it all went wrong for them after that and a goal from Jake Gamban followed by two from Richie Atkins and one from Kurtis Cockburn gave Boynton victory

John Mellor (pictured right) scored in the League for the 18th consecutive season to help his current club Brinsworth Phoenix to a 3-1 victory over Intake Old Boys. All the goals came in the second half with Dan Commander opening the scoring for Phoenix before new signing Patrick O’Brien equalised for Intake. Mellor then got his goal before Jack Hawkes wrapped up the points for Phoenix

Danny Barnsley netted twice to help Sheffield Sixers to an unusually early victory at Wadsley Jack Athletic 3-2. Barnsley curled home a brilliant free kick to give Siers the lead and they doubled it when Liam Davies turned home a Harry Buxton cross. Joe Hall pulled one back for Wadsley just before half time and the game might have turned their way when Davies missed a penalty for Sixers soon after the break, but Barnsley scored a terrific solo goal to put Sixers in charge again. Wadsley hit back and after missing a number of chances, George Scott netted their second, but Sixers held on.

New Bohemians home game with Southey Social didn’t take place after a majority of the Southey squad got tangled up in the long traffic delays caused by the Sheffield Half Marathon.

26 SEP – DIVISION 2 – Drew shows Hough to keep Whitehill top – Brinsworth Whitehill stayed top of Division Two as a Drew Houghton (pictured left) hat-trick helped them to a 5-1 victory over Water Tower. Brinsworth started the game well and should have scored when centre back Jonny Claxton should have scored when it was harder to miss. Brinsworth did take a half time lead though when Matt Claxton sent Houghton clear and the speedy winger slotted home. Brinsworth started the second half the better once again with Ainsley Finney and Sam Sweeney missing good chances. They did double the lead though with a repeat of the first goal with Matt Claxton putting it on a plate for Houghton to tap in. Carl Riley then pulled on back for Water Tower and they pressed for an equaliser, but Brinsworth got a third on the break through Ainsley Finney. It was all Brinsworth after this and they added a terrific fourth through man of the match, full back Ross Johnson, before Finney set Houghton up for his third.

Just behind Brinsworth is Mosborough Reds after their 2-1 home win over Renegade. It was a game of two halves, with a Jak Hotchin header from Alix Sorsby’s free kick and an Oliver Tupling strike a minute later giving Mosborough a deserved two goal lead at half time. It was Renegade’s first action of the season and after the break, with the cobwebs blown off, they laid siege to the Reds goals. They pulled one back with a 25 yard screamer from Lewis Hanson and Reds keeper Luke Fogg made an outstanding save in the last minute, but they couldn’t force the equaliser they probably deserved.

Jubilee Rangers moved up to third with a 6-0 win at Shakey. From the first minute Rangers were all over Shaky and although chances came and went, after the first went in it was only a matter of how many Rangers would score. Goals from Mason Hunt, Lewis Smith 2, Josh Reaney 2 and Luke Oxley capped a faultless display, but special mention for the outstanding Josh Reaney and Scott Bowley,

A first half Keir Storey goal and an outstanding display from their keeper saw Beighton Magpies gain their first win of the season, 1-0 at home to Chapeltown RBL It was also a first win for Sheaf House, 3-2 at Red Lion. A long clearance by Sheaf keeper Lee Williams saw an under-pressure defender head the ball over his keeper into the net to give Sheaf the lead and if that was fortunate, there was nothing lucky about their second with Nile Ions hitting an unstoppable volley from 25 yards. Lion pulled one back when a corner led to a scramble in the box and Andy Taylor got the final touch. They were soon level when Josh Jordan finished off a sweeping move, but Sheaf regained their lead just before the break when Joe Bland’s corner found its way straight into the net. The second half saw Lion push for an equaliser but the Sheaf defence and keeper Williams held firm.

19 SEP – SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP ROUND 1 – Pollard treble leaves Polo in a hole and Ellis is major – Harry Pollard hit a hat-trick as seven second half goals saw Sheffield South thrash Worksop’s Polo Pukz 8-1. Matt Ellis also scored three, along with one from Scott Williams, as Mosborough Reds eased past the Imperial League’s Minnies 4-1. Lewis Whitaker scored once in each half, followed by a Jordan Sargent finish and an own goal, as FC Inter won 4-0 in the all-Blades Super Draw tie at Shakey.

Another to score two was Ben Stringer (pictured right) as Chapeltown RBL comfortably beat Mexborough’s Roman FC 4-0. Chapeltown started brightly only good work from the Roman keeper kept them out. The deadlock was finally broken when Stringer found the bottom corner from just inside the area. Stringer then doubled the lead as the winger beat his man before slotting past the goalkeeper just before half time. Jack Marlow made it three from close range soon after half time, and, after a Denham Saxton cross, Morgan Cowell danced past his marker before lifting the ball over the onrushing keeper for number four.

Boynton Sports also faced Mexborough opposition in Bolton Ex-Servicemen’s and although Boynton Sports had five different scorers in Jack Bell, Marc Peacock, Lee Jordan, Jake Gamban and Ricardo Stewart they needed extra time to come through 5-4 after extra time in a real thriller. The other winner on the day was Beighton Magpies, who beat Rotherham’s Thorpe Hesley Village 4-1. A tight first half saw Beighton go in front with a Liam Milne strike, but after the break a Lewis Hunt shot doubled their lead. Will Simpson hit a third before Village pulled one back, but a Jack Thorpe strike made certain for Beighton. They are all joined in the second round by both Renegade and Southey Social after both their opponents withdrew

19 SEP – CBC PREMIER – Civil go top, whist Alex Ripps into Joker – Civil Sports replaced Oughtibridge WM at the top of the CBC Premier by beating them 2-0. Jordan Turner. A quick break saw Turner race away from defenders who clearly thought he was offside to open the scoring in the first half and they sealed the victory after the break when Florent Fadiga beat a defender before rounding the keeper for their second

An Alex Rippon (pictured left) goal set Royal Earl on their way to a 3-1 victory at Joker Wickersley Youth. Joker struck first when a long ball was headed on by Josh Kirkland into the path of scorer Kallum Nix. Earl soon equalised when man-of-the-match Connor Chapell pulled the ball back for Rippon to score. Joe Pearson’s deflected shot put Earl ahead before the break and Earl sealed the points in the second half when Rippon’s header was saved by the keeper only for Steve Brammer to follow up to score.

Crookes again showed their defensive frailties, but two Luke Hall strikes helped them come from two down to earn a point with a 4-4 draw against a Wadsley Bridge Pheasant that had a two goal striker of their own in Carlton Carty. Hall gave Crookes the lead, but it was cancelled out by Carty’s first. Danny Reet then put Pheasant ahead before Carty doubled their lead at half time. Will Wraith quickly reduced the arrears for Crookes after the break, but Joe Slater restored the visitors two goal lead and had more chances to extend it further. They were then made to pay for those misses as Hall netted his second before Tom Islip netted an equaliser.

With stand-in keeper Danny Leesley playing an important part, Handsworth Everest Inn twice came from behind to earn a point 2-2 at AFC Dronfield.Teenage keeper Elliot Ellis made a good save to stop Everest taking the lead and after he had hit the bar, James Goodwin put Dronfield ahead with a shot from outside the area. Everest equalised almost on the stroke of half time when Ryan Goodinson’s free kick was headed home by Carl Bowler (pictured right), but the second half saw Dronfield go back in front when Marcus Darby found the bottom corner. Everest hit back and grabbed a deserved equaliser when Kieron Gallagher’s cross was deflected into his own net by Sam Davis under pressure from Bowler.

Norton Sportsman came from behind to earn a good point with a 1-1 draw at Stannington Village. Brad Bowland almost put Sportsman ahead, but it was Stannington that took the lead when Jon Wall crossed for Charlie Hobson to head into the opposite corner. Sportsman soon levelled though when Bowland combined with Jack Wymouth for Waymouth to score. The second half saw Stannington have the better of the game and there was one or two near misses, but Callum Frith also had a chance to win it for the visitors.

19 SEP – DIVISION 1 – Eckington held by Phoenix – Early Division One leaders Eckington had to come from two down to rescue a point 2-2 at home to Brinsworth Phoenix. Phoenix got off to a flying start and only a great save stopped Jack Hawkes giving them the lead. They did go ahead when a moment of brilliance saw skipper Brad Rhodes score with a Beckham-esc lob from 45 yards and Rhodes then turned provider for Hawkes to bend number two in. The second half saw Eckington hit back with an Alister Haydock strike before Owen Ryan hit an equaliser.

12 SEP – DIVISION 2 – Whitehill go top and Jubilee leave Lion Red-faced – Brinsworth Whitehill went top of Division Two with a 3-1 victory at Sheaf House. Lewis Szanto, Matt Claxton and Jonny Claxton struck for Whitehill, with Ali Ahmed netting for Sheaf House.

Jubilee Rangers gave Red Lion one of their biggest defeats for a few seasons as goals from Jack Shaw, Josh Jackson, Mason Hunt, Adam Pocock, Harry Dunkerley and an own goal gave the home side a 6-1 victory. Sam Roden hit Lion’s consolation.

12 SEP – SUNDAY SENIOR CUP ROUND 1 – The magnificent seven go through – All 7 of our clubs in the Senior Sunday Cup Round 1 went through, including Joker Wickersley Youth who stayed on course to retain the trophy for a fourth successive year with Alex Hardwick’s goal sealing a narrow 2-1 victory over Lord Nelson. It took less than 5 minutes for Nathan Taylor to neatly turn in an Alex Hardwick cross following Kall Nix’s accurate trough ball. Hardwick and Austin, both forced several spectacular saves from the Nelson keeper which only encouraged the improving, young and well organised Nelson side to equalise with a penalty just before half time. 10 minutes into the second half, the stoic defender Shawn Edwards, won the ball before sending it into the path of Hardwick, who beat the advancing Nelson keeper. Will Hunter then forced a good save out of the Nelson keeper to keep the score down. Picture shows Alex Hardwick in action against the Nelson defence.

Stannington Village had much closer shave, needing penalties to go through after a 4-4 draw at Cobcar Sports & Social after twice falling three goals down. Cobcar raced into a three goal lead in the first 10 minutes and although Jimmy Middleton pulled one back midway through the first half, it looked all over when the home side restored their three goal lead with half an hour to go. The fightback began when a Lee Johnstone cross allowed Callum Hawksworth to take one touch before finishing in the bottom corner and when a corner was stabbed in by evergreen Shaun Flynn the hosts were reeling. Callum Hawksworth grabbed his second with a close range shot, and Stannington should have won it in normal time, but Jack Haslam failed from the spot when they were awarded an injury time penalty. There were no further goals in extra time, so it went to penalty shoot-out and Stannington won it 6-5 with Harley Scholey hitting the decisive spot kick.

Royal Earl also had a narrow victory 1-0 over Westville, with sub Theo Wilson scoring the game’s only goal with a header at the back post from Steve Brammer’s cross. Despite Dan Beech’s early goal being cancelled out by the visitors, Red Lion saw off Little Mesters 3-1. Andy Taylor quickly restored Lion’s lead and Richard Stirrup’s second half strike made the tie safe. AFC Dronfield eased past Handsworth Old Crown 2-0. After having a first half goal disallowed for offside, the second half saw James Taylor’s corner headed home by John Lowe before skipper Aaron Ellis put the tie beyond doubt.

Although conceding eight last weekend, it was Crookes turn to hit eight when beating Brinsworth Crusaders 8-4. Two Paul Wood strikes were cancelled out by the hosts and although Crookes then took a two goal lead with a John Brelsford header and a Max Rhodes strike, Crookes once again showed defensive frailties as Crusaders levelled things up before the break. Crookes tightened things up after that and two from Joel Purkiss followed by one from Pete Smith and Wood’s second saw Crookes through. Wadsley Bridge Pheasant were handed a bye after opponents Todwick Villa withdrew

12 SEP – CBC PREMIER – Matt’s two finishes send Oughtibridge to the top – Matt Harrison (left) netted his second double in as many weeks to help Oughtibridge WM to a 3-1 victory at Norton Oaks and the top of the CBC Premier. It was Oaks that struck first when a ball over the top was handled in the area and Lewis Trevett scored from the spot. The Oaks keeper made sure it stayed that way until the break, but when he brought Harrison down at the start of the second half he was finally beaten by Harrison’s spot kick. Mack Collinson put Oughtibridge ahead with a 25 yard free kick into the top corner, before Harrison wrapped things up when he lobbed the keeper for his second of the game.

Second is Norton Sportsman after they rode their luck at times before an own goal gave them the 2-2 draw at Handsworth Everest Inn. Sportsman struck first when Josh Gibson rose highest to meet Sonny Wilson’s corner and only two good saves stopped Callum Mawbey extending their lead, but after that it was one way traffic with Handsworth in strong control of the game and it was Sportsman keeper that stopped Liam Greenfield and Sam Marsden from scoring. Phil Miskell then had one cleared off the line, but the pressure finally told when Chad Gibson’s inswinging corner beat everyone to level the scores. Handsworth then took a half time lead when Greenfield produced a cracker from twenty yards. After the break it was Handsworth dictating affairs, with Chad Gibson hitting the bar and Lou Jackson heading just wide, but Sportsman gambled by throwing Josh Gibson up front and it paid dividends when Joe Muress beat his man inside the area and his cross was turned into his own net by the unfortunate Mike Golland under pressure from Josh Gibson. Handsworth were unlucky not to win but Sportsman showed some steel to earn a point.

12 SEP – DIVISION 1 – Eckington go top, but Inter stay with them – Early leaders in Division One is Eckington Boys after they came from behind to snatch the points at Intake Old Boys 3-2. A cagey start saw few chances for either side, but just before the half hour mark Joe Renshaw was fed through on the right hand side and at the second attempt he fired home to give Eckington a half time lead. Soon after the break Intake levelled when Shaun Garwell powered home a header and they took a deserved lead when Garwell met a corner to head his second. Intake continued to look the more dangerous, but Eckington got themselves back into it when a free kick was parried by the keeper and Pat Stothard took advantage of the goalmouth scramble to level. Eckington then gained more momentum and a great through ball allowed Stothard to take it in his stride and slot home the winner.

Second is FC Inter after they kept their perfect record with an impressive 4-2 victory at Boynton Sports. Despite a strong start by Boynton, it was Inter that consistently caught them out with a ball over the top, with Sam Read, Lewis Whitaker, Adam Justice and Chris Lees all taking advantage. Isaac Reardon and Nathan Davies goals kept Boynton in it, but Inter held on.

Sheffield South also thought they would keep their perfect record, but a last gasp goal gave Wadsley Jack Athletic a share of the points in an end-to-end 3-3 thriller. Lee Cookland gave Wadsley a first half lead and it was doubled after the break by Brad Worsfold. That seemed to wake South up and two from man-of-the-match Harry Pollard and one from Ryan Phillips looked to have given South the points, but, with the final kick of the game, Ross Lamkin popped up to give Wadsley a deserved share of the points.

Cotts got their first points with a 2-0 home win over Southey Social. Cotts took just three minutes to go in front when Sam Stacey tapped home after a bullet header from Ollie Barrett had come back off the bar. Southey, without their regular keeper and a bare eleven, that included probably the oldest player to play in the League in their 59 year old manager Steve Frith (pictured in red), almost levelled when Kieran Hopkinson struck the ball straight from the kick off and the Cotts keeper just got his finger tips to it to push it for a corner. Southey then lost Byron Mullen who swopped roles with stand in keeper Todd Guest and Mullen soon pulled off a terrific save. Scott Ellis went close a few times for Southey, but the second half saw Cotts take control and after a good run down the left, Alex Carlton hit a left foot shot into the roof of the net to complete the scoring. Both teams appreciated the efforts of stand-in referee Ray Dickens. What makes Steve Frith’s appearance more remarkable is that it isn’t that long ago that he had a hip replacement. When interviewed afterwards by Match of the Day Steve said his contribution to the team was to slow his opponents down by making them take the long route around him !!

Colley also got their first points as two Chris Onja strikes helped them to a 3-2 victory at Brinsworth Phoenix. Onja took just two minutes to give Colley the lead, but Phoenix levelled when a mis-kick by the Colley keeper went straight to Jack Hawkes and he tapped in. Onja netted his second to give Colley a deserved lead at half time, but Phoenix did better after the break and deservedly equalised as Jordan Holland got his first for the club with a swift finish from an acute angle. Phoenix pressed for a winner, but it was Colley that broke and Prince Dunia slotted home to put Colley the points.
12 SEP – DIVISION 2 – Mosborough Reds go top and Shakey get off the mark – Mosborough Reds are Division Two’s early leaders after a good 4-2 home win over Jubilee Sports. An early penalty allowed Reds skipper Jack Hotchin to give his side the lead, but Deegan Atherton quickly levelled for the visitors. A third goal inside the first ten minutes came when Danny Howson’s through ball allowed Matt Ellis (left) to beat the keeper, but Jubilee went in level at the break with a Mason Hunt strike. Mosborough took the lead a third time in the second half when Howson beat the keeper at the near post and this time they doubled their lead when Matt Ellis flicked on for Jake Leonard to find the bottom corner. Jubilee threw everything at them and it needed two outstanding saves to keep them at bay.

Shakey shook off last weekend’s heavy cup defeat by defeating newcomers Water Tower 2-1. Steve Dickinson and Jordan Wright on his debut gave Shakey a two goal half time lead. Water Tower hit back strongly in the second half and after Shakey were reduced to ten men after two yellows, they needed some stout defending and resolve. Jacob Rickards managed to pull one back late on, but Shakey managed to hold on.

5 SEP – CBC PREMIER – Jack’s the Lad as Granville celebrates his big 8-0 – Jack Haslam hit 4 as Stannington Village gave their long serving secretary, Granville Grayson (pictured right), the perfect 80th birthday present by surprisingly beating Crookes 8-0. Stannington took the lead when a long throw Jasper Newhall from flicked on by Kosi Nwobi and Jack Haslam volleyed in. A good pass from Nwobi allowed Charlie Hobson to volley home the second brilliantly at the back post. A third came before half time when Haslam was brought down in the area and Charlie Hobson put the spot kick into the bottom corner.

The fourth came soon after half time when a long ball found Haslam who comfortably lobbed the keeper and a fifth came when Nwobi beat three men in the box before smashing it in the far corner. Haslam nipped in to complete his hat-trick and his fourth was a header from a corner. The final goal came from a good run by Addie Gadour and the ball fell for Luca Defalco who dinked it over the keeper

Another surprise came as two Matt Harrison strikes helped Oughtibridge WM win 3-1 at WB Pheasant. Matt Harrison beat the offside trap before crossing for Chas Tunnard to give Oughtibridge a fifth minute lead. A second soon followed when Harrison again beat the back line, before dinking the ball over the keeper. It soon got worse for Pheasant when they were reduced to ten men, but they began to create chances and got their reward when they were awarded a penalty and Jordan Stocks scored. The second half saw Pheasant have plenty of the ball, but they were frequently hit on the break and Harrison scored a third for the visitors. It probably should have been more after that, but poor finishing and a great save by keeper Statham stopped any further scoring.

Joker Wickersley Youth CC celebrated their new combination with a 2-0 victory over Handsworth Everest Inn. Some early pressure by Joker saw Kallum Nix hit the post and although Will Hunter put the rebound home he was ruled offside by referee Pete Henger. Adam Daughtrey then had a shot deflected over the Handsworth crossbar, but the opener finally came when Nix and Daughtrey combined for Liam O’Brien to score with a powerful shot. Handsworth, who we're missing 8 players, were putting in a spirited performance and a Joel Hickling effort brought a good save by the Joker keeper. Chad Gibson also went close from a tight angle. Joker started the second half on the front foot and a Nix long ball found O’Brien and his cross allowed Daughtrey to double their lead. Everest skipper Tom Crosby was largely responsible for no more goals with saves from Josh Kirkland and Daughtrey. Action from the game is left.

Despite James Cottingham giving them the lead in the first minute, the newly combined AFC Dronfield slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Norton Sportsman. Sportsman levelled when Danny Rogers was brought down by Dronfield keeper Elliot Ellis and James Archer scored from the spot. Ellis redeemed himself with a terrific stop from a free kick, but he was beaten again in the second half when Michael Gibbons knock on was headed home by Chris Lewis. Dronfield was having plenty of the ball, but couldn’t break down the Sportsman defence and Sportsman finally wrapped up the points when Callum Frith marked his comeback from two years out with an injury by crossing for Gibbons to tap the ball home.

Jordan Turner quickly showed he still has an eye for goal by hitting a hat-trick as Civil Sports came from two down to beat Norton Oaks 4-3. Oaks struck first when Kyle Grantham headed across for Chris Pigott to score, but Civil levelled before the break when a corner led to Rob Shelley glancing the ball home. The second half saw Oaks go back in front when Lewis Trevett was pulled down in the area and he picked himself up to score from the spot. Elliot Hall then ran through the Civil defence before passing for Grantham to round the keeper and score Oaks third. Civil got back into it when a long goal kick went over the Oaks defence and Turner beat the keeper to the ball to score. Another ball over the top saw Turner smash home his second and he completed his hat-trick to win it when he chipped the ball over the keeper.

5 SEP – DIVISION 1 – Eckington power too much for Colley – Eckington Boys got their season off to the perfect start with an 8-1 win at Colley. A lively start saw Eckington ahead inside 10 minutes. A lofted pass from Joe Harris into the path of Joe Renshaw saw a low cross turned home from close range by Owen Ryan. Eckington continued their dominance and got their second when a through ball from Tom Gardiner allowed Joe Renshaw score. Colley got back into it when a penalty was given for a foul by Ethan Flower and Chris Belshaw slammed the ball home. Eckington picked themselves up to score two quick fire goals. Gardiner rifled one home from the edge of the box before Joe Renshaw coolly slotted home just before the break. Eckington dominated the second half and further goals from Ali Haydock, Ethan Flower and a Harry Bell double completed the scoring.

Sheffield South also made a good start with Brad Smith hitting three in a convincing 5-0 win at Southey Social. Southey started well and could have gone in front when Cameron Gates volleyed inches wide, but two mistakes allowed Ryan Phillips and Alex Masterson to give South a two goal lead. Southey upped the tempo and Jamie Roper twice went close twice in minutes, but Brad Smith showed him how to take chances with three. Another to hit a hat-trick was Boynton Sports’ Ross Thompson (pictured right) in their 4-0 win at Sheffield Sixs, with Roan Heeley hitting the other. A fast paced opening 20 minutes saw both sides battling for it in the middle of the park with Michael Whitehead rolling back the years to dominate the aerials battles. Boynton playing with a number of young debutants started to get a foothold and after 35 minutes broke the deadlock through Ross Thompson who had earlier hit the bar. Boynton with the back three of Peacock Goodison and Marsden staying strong and some outstanding work by 18 year old man of the match Isaac Reardon and 19 year old Richie Atkins won Boynton a penalty and Ross Thompson made no mistake. Shortly after Roan Heeley followed up a looping ball to head home his first goal for Boynton before Thompson completed his hat trick with a superb lob.

The most thrilling game of the day saw Sam Smith hit a hat-trick for New Bohemians as they twice came from behind to beat Cotts FC 5-4. Cotts started quickly and Billy Wright gave them the lead, but Bohemians equalised when a mistake from Cotts keeper was pounced upon by James Hastings who squared to Sam Smith to simply tap it on. Bohemians then went in front when right back Will Beaumont took it from inside his own half before dancing through the Cotts defence, and rolling it into the bottom corner. Michael Blythen equalised on the stroke of half time when a brilliant 25 yard free kick into the top corner, but Bohemians started quickly in the second half and Smith put them back in front.. Cotts hit back to first level through Joe Moakes and then go in front through Chris Salt, but Smith who tapped in his hat-trick to level, before Hastings crossed for Matt Beck to win it for Bohemians.

Another thriller came at Intake Old Boys where two second half Wes Butler goals and a last minute Rob Oxley penalty save gave them a 4-3 victory over Wadsley Jack Athletic. Russell Hobson scored on his debut to give Intake the lead only for Leon Dearns to level for the visitors. A Jack Heald penalty put Intake back in front, but Wadsley equalised again through Ethan Wilkinson. Butler made it 4 2 to intake before Reece James made it 4 3 and Wadsley looked destined to take a share of the points when they were awarded a penalty, but George Scott’s shot was saved by Oxley to give Intake all three points. Sam Read was another to net twice and together with a Chris Lees strike, FC Inter beat visitors Brinsworth Phoenix 3-0.

5 SEP – DIVISION 2 – Water Tower and Brinsworth Whitehill start with narrow wins – In a pulsating game Brinsworth Whitehill were pushed all the way, but came away from Jubilee Rangers with all three points thanks to a single Lewis Szanto headed goal, and another narrow win came for League newcomers Water Tower thanks to a single second half strike by Lewis Fretwell at home against Beighton Magpies. The other newcomers, Red Lion had to settle for a point at home against Mosborough Reds. Danny Howson gave Reds a first half lead, but a Dan Beech goal in the second half gave Lion a deserved share of the points.

5 SEP – TWENTYTWO CUP – Chapeltown savage Shakey to go through – Chapeltown RBL passed through to Round 2 of the League Twentytwo Cup as Jay Carter scored twice in a comfortable 6-0 victory over Shakey. Chapeltown RBL were quick out of the blocks with a first minute Mitch Savage free kick finding its way under the Shakey keeper. Jay Carter doubled the lead after soon after by finding the bottom corner from an acute angle, before Savage turned provider by crossing for full back Jacob Walkland to score at the back post. Captain Jack Marlow found the top corner from distance after the hour mark, and good work down the left from Ben Stringer resulted in an own goal to make it five, before Jay Carter was brought down in the area late on and he picked himself up to dink a penalty down the middle for his second goal. Action from the game is below:

3 SEP – Fixtures for September and 3 October – Fixtures for SEPTEMBER & 3 OCTOBER are shown in the Fixtures section of the League website. They include the draw for the Sunday Senior Cup on 12 September and the draw for the Sunday Junior Cup on 19 September, but there could be changes to those cup ties in due course. It is the County FA's responsibility to tell clubs who the referees are for the Sunday Senior and Sunday Junior Cup ties.

For the League and League Twentytwo Cup games

All home teams MUST make sure that their home pitch is available on all the dates shown. Please email Keith immediately if your pitch is not available on a date shown. All home clubs MUST also confirm the details with your referees and opponents for all dates shown as soon as they are shown. If you are having to kick-off at a time other than 11 am, you MUST make sure that both your referee, opponents and Keith are aware.

Any team that have opponents shown as "No game yet" should NOT assume that they will have no game on that date as we have often had to change fixtures at short notice as we try to get as many games played as possible.

The referees are shown for 5 & 26 September, but we cannot publish referees for the League games on 12 & 19 September until we know which referees are needed for Sunday Cup ties.

The home clubs should later (the Tuesday before the game) ring the referee to make sure the referee has got all the details.

If a referee says he cannot do a game listed for them, please notify Keith immediately.

Matches without referees must still go ahead and, if you have not been allocated a referee by the date of the game, the two clubs must agree on a stand-in 'referee' between them.  Although Keith will still be working to gain more referees, because we have a lower number of referees than in recent season, it is very likely that some games may not have an official referee allocated to them. If you find one yourself, will you let Keith know immediately please.

The League Twentytwo Cup draw on 3 October is also shown and we will subsequently appoint referees to those games. The draw for these Round 2 games was made by The Star's Blades reporter James Shield and The Athletic's Richard Sutcliffe at Bramall Lane recently.

30 AUG – Ground changes for Colley and Wadsley Jack Athletic – Both Colley and Wadsley Jack Athletic have had to change pitches after Chaucer’s artificial pitch could no longer be used. Colley have moved to King Edward’s and will now share with Sheffield South. Wadsley Jack Athletic have moved to Forge Valley School and some of their games could be Sunday afternoon kick-offs.

15 AUG – Fixtures for 5 September – Fixtures for 5 SEPTEMBER are shown below. Any team that have opponents shown as TBA should NOT assume that they will have no game on that date as we have often had to change fixtures at short notice as we try to get as many games played as possible. The remaining fixtures for September will be published when we know the draws for the Sunday Cups due to be played on 12 & 19 September

All home teams MUST make sure that their home pitch is available on all the dates shown. Please email Keith immediately if your pitch is not available on a date shown.

All home clubs must also confirm the details with your referees and opponents for all dates shown IMMEDIATELY. If you are having to kick-off at a time other than 11 am, you MUST make sure that both your referee and opponents are aware. The home clubs should later (the Tuesday before the game) ring the referee to make sure the referee has got all the details.

If a referee says he cannot do a game listed for them, please notify Keith immediately.
