27 JUNE – Handsworth Create A Dream Bike Ride Raises £4,500 – Handsworth Inn players, Danny Leesley and David Haggerty along with three other members of the team have completed a 3 day charity bike Ride for Create A Dream Foundation. They set off on Thursday Morning from Sothall and arrived In Edinburgh Saturday Tea-time. A great achievement from all involved and have raised £4500 for the charity. A big thank you to everyone who sponsored them and gave them support. As well as sponsoring their team mates, the Handsworth team also provided a ‘kitty’ so Danny and David could have a well deserved drink on them. Pictures from the ride are below.

17 MAY – Cobden View raise money for MIND – Cobden View held a charity day where there players past and present took on each other, although getting their kits on was more than a task for some after 4 months of lockdown. The game, played in the memory of former player Ryan Marshall and raised £340 for MIND, saw the current team win 4-0. After being formed 7 years ago it marks a milestone before taking the club’s next step forward with a link-up with AFC Dronfield

16 MAY - Mini-Tournament Final Result – The Final of the Blades Super Draw Mini-Tournament saw former CBC Premier champions Stannington Village overcome Division Two Nether Green 4-3 on penalties after in an exciting final had finished 2-2 at full time.

Andy Knott hit a superb left foot volley to give Nether Green an early lead, but it was cancelled out just before the interval when a corner was only partially cleared and Jack Holmes hit a 20 yard volley into the top corner. The second half saw Stannington go ahead when Lee Johnstone rose highest at the back post to head home a Charlie Hobson corner , but Nether Green didn’t give up and they took the game to a penalty shoot-out with a late own goal. After both teams had missed one penalty, keeper Nathan Ryan became Stannington’s hero when he saved Nether Green’s fifth penalty to give Stannington victory. It was superbly refereed by Tony Tierney and had been a fitting end to what has been an excellent end of season tournament.

9 MAY - Mini-Tournament Semi Final Results - The Semi Finals saw victories for both Stannington Village and Nether Green reach the Final. Callum Lee and Jack Haslam strikes in the first half proved enough for Stannington to win 2-0 at Mosborough Reds. Despite a Harry Dunkerley goal putting hosts Jubilee Rangers ahead, their fellow Division Two side Nether Green produced a strong second half display to win 3-1 with two goals from Tom Davis and one from Harry Pollard.

The Final, on Sunday 16 May will be Stannington Village v Nether Green, with Tony Tierney as the referee.

9 MAY – Tribute to Mick Forbes – In the friendly game between Colley and Shakey at the Civil Sports ground today, the teams held a minute’s silence before they started in tribute to former Shakey coach Mick Forbes.

2 MAY - Mini-Tournament Quarter Final Results - The Quarter Finals saw three of the four games be decided by penalty shoot-outs, with Stannington Village edging out Norton Sportsman 4-3 on pens after a goalless draw, Nether Green overcoming Woodhouse Juniors by the same penalties score, despite Woodhouse’s keeper Lee Williams scoring a last gasp equaliser to cancel out a Hollis-Smith strike to take the game to penalties, and Mosborough Reds seeing off Beighton Magpies 5-4 on pens after a goalless draw. The only game to be decided in 90 minutes saw goals from Harry Dunkerley, Adam Darton and Jake Thompson give Jubilee Rangers a 3-0 victory over Handsworth Inn Pub. It means the semi-finals to be played next Sunday , 9 May, will be Jubilee Rangers v Nether Green and Mosborough Reds v Stannington Village.

25 APR - Mini-Tournament Quarter Final & Semi Final Draws - The draw for the Quarter Finals to be played Sunday 2 May is: Match A; Stannington Village v Norton Sportsman; Match B; Woodhouse Juniors v Nether Green; Match C; Jubilee Rangers v Handsworth Inn Pub; Match D; Beighton Magpies v Mosborough Reds.

The draw for the semi-finals to be played on 9 May is: Winner of Match C v Winner of Match B; Winner of Match D v Winner of Match A. The Final will be played on 16 May.

25 APR - Mini-Tournament Round 3 Results - The third round of games in Group A saw Norton Sportsman finish top of Group A with a 4-2 victory over Civil Sports. After Jordan Turner had given Civil an early lead, Norton equalised when Brad Bowland was tripped in the area and he tucked away the penalty. Norton took the lead shortly after when Michael Gibbons flicked home from a long throw, but Civil equalised with Turner’s second, but on the stroke of half time Norton restored their lead when a bad clearance was punished by Harry Mitchell. The second half was much tighter, but Norton clinched top spot near the end with a neat Montelle Kamara finish.

Joining them from Group A in the Quarter Finals is Stannington Village after two Jack Haslam strikes gave them a narrow 2-1 victory over Oughtibridge WM. Group A’s other game saw Eckington twice come from behind to win at Cotts. Michael Blythen’s early strike for Cotts was cancelled out by Joe Renshaw, but Cotts lead at half time with a Chris Salt finish. Eckington were level soon after the break with a left foot strike by Tom Gardner and they won it when Pat Stothard took advantage of a mistake by the Cotts keeper.

Group B winner is Nether Green after Tyreece Sterling and Harvey Nolan goals gave them a 2-0 victory over Brinsworth Phoenix. Joining them in the Quarter Finals is Handsworth Inn Pub despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Renegade Football. Handsworth keeper Tom Crosby had to make several good saves as Renegade dominated the first half, but even Crosby couldn’t stop Matt Jacobs’ bullet header that gave Renegade a first half lead. Handsworth started to create more in the second half and after a couple of near misses, Lou Jackson (pictured right) hit an unstoppable shot from 15 yards to give his side a draw.

Jubilee Rangers will also be in the Quarter Finals after they comfortably beat New Bohemians 5-1. All Jubilee’s goals came in the first half with doubles from Jake Thompson and Josh Jackson together with one from Adam Darton. James Hastings netted Bohemians consolation in the second half.

Group C saw three teams gain the maximum 9 points to go through to the Quarter Finals. Jack Longden hit four as Beighton Magpies beat Killamarsh Juniors 8-0 with Lewis Hunt and Liam Milne scoring one each before Jacob Kubon celebrated his return from an 18 month injury lay-off with a brace. Taku Padiwa hit a hat-trick and Henry Bradshaw their other as Woodhouse Juniors gained their maximum with a 4-1 victory over Prince of Wales. The third team is Mosborough Reds who were awarded a 3-0 victory after Sheffield Sixers saw Covid restrictions stop them fielding a team.

18 APR - Mini-Tournament Round 2 Results - The second round of games in Group A saw Norton Sportsman twice came from behind to take charge of the group with a narrow 3-2 win over Eckington. Eckington got their noses in front when a corner from the left was helped on by Mitch Walker to his centre back partner Ben Renshaw to nod home. Norton fought their way back into the game and Brad Bowland (left) celebrated his return to the side with the equaliser after a long throw caused in the box. A frantic half continued to gather pace & Eckington re-claimed their lead when a good ball through the middle played Owen Ryan through to score. The second half saw Bowland equalise a second time and with Norton getting on top, sub Anthony Holmes started and finished the move to win it for Norton.

Oughtibridge WM came from behind to win 2-1 at Cotts. After a goalless first half, Cotts went ahead after the break with a Michael Blythen strike, but Oughtibridge levelled when Aiden Nagi was felled in the area and Matt Harrison scored. Oughtibridge won it when they were awarded a second penalty after Charlie Cope was brought down and Harrison scored from the spot again. Stannington Village’s game with Civil Sports was postponed.

Group B saw Handsworth Inn Pub go top after doubles from Lou Jackson and Russell Hobson (right), and one for Sam Marsden gave them a 5-0 victory over New Bohemians. It could well have been more with only the woodwork twice stopping Hobson from completing his hat-trick.

Jubilee Rangers and Brinsworth Phoenix shared the points after a 2-2 draw. Dan Commander netted both Phoenix’s goals, whilst Jake Thompson and a Jack Shaw penalty scored for Jubilee. Nether Green was awarded a 3-0 victory after Renegade had to call off their game due to Covid restrictions.

Group C saw Mosborough Reds go top with a 5-0 victory over Prince of Wales. Josh Smith put Reds ahead after a great ball into box by Arrand and skipper Jak Hotchin headed home from a Luke Fogg corner. Terrance N’Cube made it three before the break and two penalties in the second half by Fogg and Oliver Tupling completed the scoring.

Beighton Magpies are second after they narrowly beat Sheffield Sixers 2-1 to also make it six points out of six. Dale Featherstone (left) opened the scoring from the spot after Liam Milne  was brought down and they extended their lead with a terrific Will Simpson header. Connor McMain scored for Sixers with five minutes remaining to make it a tense ending to a hard fought game.

Woodhouse JFC also have maximum points after a narrow 3-2 victory over Killamarsh Juniors. Two Taku Padiwa goals put Woodhouse in charge, but Houghton and Webster strikes saw Killamarsh level until Ashley Wood’s winner.

11 APR - Mini-Tournament Round 1 Results - The return of Sunday football in the Blades Super Draw League saw the League’s mini-tournament get off to a great start. Group A saw Civil Sports start like an express train against a rusty looking Cotts. Two goals by Jordan Turner soon had Civil in control, and James Brown headed a third before half time. Cotts did better in the second half with both sides making chances, goals had to come, with Callum Shaw netting for Cotts and Tom Bamford scoring Civil’s fourth.

Norton Sportsman started with a 2-0 home win over Oughtibridge WM, but it was hardly straightforward. Oughtibridge had a player dismissed after 15 minutes, but it hardly showed and they had the better of the first half chances until right on half time when a scramble in the box allowed Chris Winters to stab the ball home for Norton. After the break with both sides creating chances, the best fell to Norton when they were awarded a penalty, but Oughtibridge keeper Corey Hawksworth made a terrific save to keep his side in the game. Norton finally sealed the victory when centre back Josh Gibson swivelled on the edge of the area to thump the ball home. Pictured below is action from the game.

Eckington twice came from behind to get a deserved 2-2 draw at Stannington Village. Danny Abdulla’s opener for Stannington was cancelled out by a Tom Gambles header, but a terrific Jack Haslam strike restored Stannington’s lead before the interval. It looked like Stannington would hold their lead in the second half, but just five minutes from time a great ball in by Pat Stothard was met by Joe Harris to earn Eckington a draw.

Group B saw Nether Green come from two down to win 5-2 at home to New Bohemians. Sam Smith and Jack Brownell goals either side of half time seemed to put Bohemians in control, but a fifteen minute spell saw Nether Green score five times through a Tom Davies double, one each for Chris Samuels and Ryan Phillips and an own goal to turn the game completely.

Handsworth Inn Pub started with a 3-1 win at home against Brinsworth Phoenix. After Sam Marsden had given Handsworth the lead, Daniel Commander hit an equaliser for Phoenix before half time, but ben Shackshaft restored Handsworth’s lead in the second half before Russ Hobson added their third. Josh Jackson and Jack Shaw goals gave Jubilee Sports a 2-0 home win over Renegade.

The day’s biggest win came in Group C at Mosborough Reds with a 6-0 victory over Killamarsh Juniors. Matt Ellis hit a hat-trick, with Reds others coming from Luke Newman, Jake Leonard and Will Hotchin. Group C’s other games were much tighter, with a single Jack Horne goal giving Woodhouse JFC a 1-0 victory over Sheffield Sixers, and a single Joe Hobson goal giving Beighton Magpies a 1-0 triumph over Prince of Wales. 10 APR – Mick Forbes Charity game - Mick Forbes (pictured right), the popular former coach of Shakey FC and prior to that at Park Hotel, has been battling a very serious illness so his old team mates have joined together to set up a Charity game, Shakey FC v Park Hotel Legends, on Sunday 4 July, kick-off at 10:30, to be played at the Jubilee Club on Claywheels Lane – the ground where Jubilee Sports play. Former FiFA referee and County FA Chairman Uriah Rennie has agreed to find his whistle again to referee the game.

Any money raised will be split between three great causes; St Luke’s hospice, Mind mental health, Micheal’s Family.

Food and beverages will be available all day, there will be a Bouncy castle for kids along with plenty of other activities on the day, as well as a raffle and an auction.

3 APR - Blades Super Draw League Mini-Tournament - The Blades Super Draw League is running a mini-tournament for the clubs that wanted to take part. It is hoped that teams will play the games in a friendly spirit as there are no trophies or medals to be won, it is just an attempt to give people an opportunity to be involved again.

Detail of all group games and referees are now shown in the Fixtures section of the League website. All games are 11 am kick-off except the games at Jubilee Rangers which are 12pm kick-off. Clubs must confirm addresses and post codes of pitches to your opponents and referees. The teams with a pitch will play the three teams without a pitch.

The top two from each group and the two best from all the rest will go through to the quarter finals. The draws for the quarter final, semi-final and final will only be made when we know how which teams go through. Clubs will share the costs of the pitch hire and referees for each game, but the home teams must ensure that the referee is paid.The groups are: Group A Norton Sportsman; Oughtibridge WM; Stannington Village; Eckington; Cotts FC; Civil Sports Group B Handsworth Inn Pub; Brinsworth Phoenix; Nether Green; New Bohemians; Jubilee Rangers; Renegade Football Group C Mosborough Reds; Killamarsh Juniors; Beighton Magpies; Prince of Wales; Woodhouse JFC; Sheffield Sixers
