Crookes
Purk up to go clear at the top, whilst Taylor made Wickersley go second
-
A Joel Purkiss (left) hat-trick helped
Crookes to a 4-3 victory over Royal Earl to gain revenge for their only
defeat of the season and go eight points clear at the top of the CBC
Premier. Andy Parkin gave Crookes the lead and it was doubled by a Joel
Purkiss penalty, but a Michael Towey strike just before half-time put
Earl back in the game. After the break, a scramble in the box allowed
Sam Smith to level the scores, but two goals in four minutes by Purkiss
put Crookes back in charge. Earl came back with an Alex Rippon goal, but
they just couldn’t grab an equaliser.
Crookes
could still be caught though by Wickersley Youth after two Nathan Taylor
strikes helped them to a 4-3 victory over Oughtibridge WM. Wickersley
took an early lead when a Josh Kirkland corner was headed home by
Taylor, but Oughtibridge got a deserved equaliser when Callum Simms
showed some neat footwork in the area before a good finish. Wickersley
went back in front when Joe Long pushed Kirkland down in the area and
Kris Lee-Green (right) scored from the spot, but when Wickersley were
awarded a second penalty, Lee-Green could only hit the woodwork.
Only a good save by the Wickersley keeper
stopped Charlie Cope from bringing the scores level a second time and,
after the break, Cope beat the offside trap only to pull his shot wide,
but Oughtibridge deservedly levelled again when they were awarded a
penalty and Charlie Tunnard scored. Wickersley went back in front when
Lee-Green got to the by-line and crossed for Taylor to score his second.
Man of the Match Lee-Green started the move that saw Danny Stobbard
cross for Kirkland to head a fourth for Wickersley. A fourth penalty of
the game saw Tunnard pull another back for the visitors, but this time
Wickersley held on. Referee Paul Matthewson was praised for his part in
a terrific game.
Norton
Sportsman played out their third successive draw a real 3-3 thriller
with Wadsley Bridge Pheasant. Norton started well and
scored midway through first half when a sweeping move ended with
Montelle Kamara feeding James Archer to fire home from 18 yards and
Harry Mitchell doubled their lead just before half time. Pheasant got
back into it soon after the break when a Jordan Livett (left) free-kick
came back off the bar and was turned in by Harry Hurst. Norton looked to
have won it when a Chris Lewis shot took a deflection past the Pheasant
keeper, but Pheasant reduced the lead again when Livett made no mistake
with another free-kick. With the outstanding Carlton Carty driving them
forward, Pheasant got a deserved equaliser, but it was the unfortunate
Joe Muress that turned a long throw into his own net.

DIVISION 1 -
Hobson's the choice for Handsworth, whilst Davies snookers Boynton -
Russ Hobson (right) hit a hat-trick as Division One leaders Handsworth
Inn Pub went clear at the top. Handsworth started the half the better
team and went ahead when Perry Jackson's flick on from a corner fell to
Hobson to score at the back post. The doubled their lead when Liam
Greenfield turned before driving into the box to find the bottom corner.
Colley then grew into the game and pulled a goal back when a cross into
the box saw Chris Belshaw head home and they started the second half the
better team. They hit the bar before Belshaw struck a deserved
equaliser. Colley almost took the lead when Billy Thorley’s shot came
back off the bar, but that seemed to be a turning point and Handsworth
took control again. A great cross by Sam Marsden was met by Hobson who
lifted the ball over the keeper onto the post, but fired home the
rebound. Lou Jackson then flicked a header into the bottom corner from a
free kick, before Hobson completed his perfect hat-trick with a free
header at the back post. Oli Grady then scored from the edge of the area
before Ben Shackshaft rounded off the win with a tap in after a nice
cross from Tom Smith.
Sheffield
Sixers are beginning their charge up the table after a Liam Davies
(left) double helped them to a 4-1 victory at Boynton Sports. Harry
Buxton gave them an early lead and Davies doubled it when he turned home
a Danny Barnsley corner. Jake Gamban pulled one back for the home side
just before the break, but the second half saw Davies grab his second
following a quick free-kick by Brad Howe. Howe completed the scoring
when he lobbed the keeper from 30 yards.
Another winner was Brinsworth Phoenix
who climbed to fourth with victory at Southey Social.
Innocent Huly and Jack Hawkes combined to set up the chance for Chris
Cottyn to mark his debut with the opening goal and young winger Regan
Howarth added a second with a composed finish. Daniel Commander then
left four defenders in his wake before hitting an unstoppable left foot
shot into the top corner. Ryan Whitney pulled one back for Southey, but
the League’s all-time leading scorer John Mellor bent a shot into the
top corner to seal the points for Phoenix.

Unbeaten records go as Ellis leaves Green with Red faces and Darton's
double scalps Renegades - A double for new signing Matt
Ellis (right) helped Mosborough Reds end Division Two leaders Nether
Green's unbeaten record and push Reds up to second. James Arrand took
advantage of a mistake to put Reds ahead and more Reds pressure ended
with Ellis firing into the top corner. After the break, Jack
Hollis-Smith reduced the areas, but Reds regained their two goal
advantage when the keeper spilled the ball and Ellis netted his second.
Brad Smith pulled a second back for Nether Green, but Reds held on to
end Green’s record.
The
League’s other remaining unbeaten record also went after an Adam Darton
(left) double helped Jubilee Rangers win 3-1 at Renegade Football.
Rangers had already missed a couple of good chances before Darton hit a
real stunner to put them ahead. He soon added his second, but Renegade
got back into it with a Mikey Vella strike. Both teams didn’t hold back
and it could have gone either way, but it was Jubilee that finally made
sure the points came their way with a Rob O’Neill strike.
A Liam Moorhouse double helped Shakey
to 5-0 victory over Prince of Wales. Shakey never gave their visitors a
breather and further goals came from Michael Taylor, Kyle Hardwick and
Jordan Smith. Beighton Magpies completed the double over Wadsley Jack
Athletic with a 2-1 victory. Magpies took the lead midway through the
first half with a good finish into the bottom left hand corner from Jack
Longdon's right boot and they doubled the lead in the second half when a
Keir Storey corner was headed home by Will Simpson. Reece James pulled
one back for Wadsley, but stand in keeper Danny King again having an
excellent game for Magpies they held on. |

Earl
Ripp Civil to shreds and Norton hold Redmires -
On a day when
many games in all three divisions were postponed due to waterlogged
pitches, it was a case of extremes in the CPC Premier. Alex Rippon
(left) hit five as Royal Earl tore Civil Sports to shreds to win 11-1.
It was a very
one sided affair, with Steve Brammer getting a hat-trick along with
singles for Michael Towey, William Wraith and Sam Smiths netting the
best with a beautiful flick from a Michael Towey pull back. Player
Manager Gary Eades netted with a 30 yard free-kick for Civil, but it was
little consolation to them.
Set against that was champions Redmires,
who were held to their first goalless draw for 18 seasons by Norton
Sportsman.
As the score suggests it was a very tight game between two well
organised sides. It was backs against wall for Redmires with five of
their defenders and leading scorer Tom Whiting missing. Ben Palmer made
a rare start and put in a man of the match performance and assistant
manager Stephan Parry had to play the last 15 minutes. Norton probably
had the better of the few chances created, with the best a Tiago Bravo
deflected shot hitting the bar.
Leaders Crookes were awarded a 3-0
victory over Wadsley Bridge Pheasant after Pheasant failed to raise a
team. 13 DEC - DIVISION 1 - Handsworth Inn go top as Bohemians smash Cotts perfect record - Despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Intake Old Boys, Handsworth Inn Pub's point was enough to take them to the top of Division One. Handsworth took the lead just after half time when Kieran Gallagher put in a great cross from the right and an Intake defender was only able to clear the ball to Sam Marsden who volleyed the ball home. Intake levelled with around ten minutes remaining with a Danny Meadows goal and only a great save by Handsworth keeper Andy Stevens (right) prevented Intake taking all three points.
Sam Brown helped New Bohemians smash previous leaders Cotts perfect
record with a 5-1 victory over them.
Cotts almost took a first minute lead when Mikey Blythen tried an
audacious lob from 55 which beat the keeper, but bounced over the bar. A
minute later they did go ahead when a corner led to Sam Stacey hitting
an unstoppable shot from the corner of the area into the bottom left
corner of the goal.
Bohemians hit back
instantly when James Hastings crossed for Sam Smith to finish into the
bottom corner and, when the Cotts keeper played a terrible pass out, an
almost carbon copy saw Sam Brown put them ahead before half-time. After
the break it was Bohemians that dominated. They extended their lead when
Matt Beck cut in to smash past the keeper and then produced the goal of
the game when a terrific passing move was finished off calmly by Brown.
After being put through one-on-one, Tom Cropper scored his first goal
for the club to complete the scoring.
FC
Inter went third after two James Leesley (left) goals helped them to a
5-2 victory at Brinsworth Phoenix. Jack Hawkes took his season’s tally
to twelve with both Phoenix goals, but even he was outshone by Leesley.
Ben Southwell, Sam Read and an own goal completed the scoring for Inter
to give them the points and a place in the promotion slots.
13 DEC - DIVISION 2 -
Nether Green's perfect record ended as they were held by Whitehill -
Division Two leaders Nether Green's perfect record came to an end after
a late Brinsworth Whitehill penalty gave them a 2-2 draw and second
place. Brinsworth started the better and chances were flowing. Ross
Johnson found Ainsley Finney but the striker blasted wide. Matt Claxton
was then denied by a good save by the Nether Green keeper and it was
Claxton again when he was put clean through on goal, but the in-form
striker got it drastically wrong and fired wide of goal. Brinsworth
continued pushing for a goal before half time, but again missed a sitter
when Ross Johnson fired over from close range.
The
second half saw Brinsworth finally take a deserved lead when Claxton’s
inch perfect ball allowed Adam Daughtrey to coolly slot home. This fired
life into Nether Green and they piled the pressure on without really
troubling Brinsworth’s debutant keeper Jon Reed. Nether Green did
eventually get an equaliser from a corner, with George Cantwell forcing
the ball home. Both teams went searching for a winner and it was Nether
Green who thought they had it with ten minutes remaining when a set
piece was finished off by Harry Pollard. Brinsworth kept on going though
and in the last seconds Matt Claxton was brought down in the area,
allowing Finney (right) to coolly slot it away. Another draw came as Beighton Magpies came away from Prince of Wales with a 1-1 draw. Both teams put in everything they had in a riveting game, with Prince scoring first when Stefan Briddock scrambled the ball home from a corner midway through the first half. Magpies equalised before half-time through Liam Milne and in the second half Magpies missed the chance to win the game from the penalty spot when the Prince keeper made an excellent save. More chances came and went for both sides with Magpies stand in keeper Danny King earning his man-of-the award with some good saves and excellent handling in wet and windy conditions. Niall Wilkinson starred with two goals as Wadsley Jack Athletic made it three wins out of four with an 8-4 victory over Woodhouse Juniors. George Scott also scored twice, including one of his trademark free-kicks, and Wadsley’s others came from Lewis Smith, Jacob Walkland, a debut goal for Jordan Swinburn and a screamer into the top corner from Sonny MacDonald. Woodhouse did their best to stay in the game with two from Billy Wakefield and one each for Dan Howson and Dan Lockwood, but Wadsley’s firepower proved too much for them. |

Norton
find some Pryde to hold the leaders, while Cobden come from 3 down to
win -
Joel Purkiss (right) hit a hat-trick for
CBC Premier leaders Crookes but it wasn't enough as Norton Sportsman
twice came from behind to rescue a point with a Connor Pryde (left)
strike giving them a 3-3 draw. Purkiss struck twice in the first twenty
minutes to put Crookes in charge, but an unfortunate own goal just
before half time gave Norton Sportsman just the lift they needed.
Sportsman equalised midway through the second half when Harry Mitchell
smashed home from the edge of the area, but Purkiss quickly put Crookes
back in front. It looked as if it would be enough, but Sportsman gave
their all and Pryde headed a deserved equaliser in injury time.
Despite falling three goals down at
Oughtibridge WM, Dom Paterson and Tim Pitt doubles helped Cobden View
hit back to win 5-3 and secure their first ever win in the top flight.
Terrific strikes by Brad Fletcher and Charlie Cope quickly had
Oughtibridge in charge and when Chas Tunnard made it three after just 25
minutes Oughtibridge looked certain to be collecting their first win of
the season. A comeback looked unlikely as Oughtibridge had other
chances, but Cobden View got a foothold in the game when Dom Patterson
slid in to give them hope just before half-time.
The second half was all Cobden. Two
corners got them level as confusion reigned in the Oughtibridge box and
Patterson and then Pitt got vital touches in goal mouth scrambles. With
Alex Pursehouse pulling all the strings in midfield, Cobden sensed it
was there for the taking and Pitt added a fourth at the back post before
sub Will Cutler rounded off a great victory. Referee Gareth Thomas also
drew praise for his handling of the game.

DEC - DIVISION 1 -
Shackshaft winner sends Handsworth second and Brad shows Howe for
Sixers – In Division One, Handsworth Inn
Pub beat Boynton Sports 2-1 to go second in the table.
Handsworth started the game
really well and the game should have been over if it wasn't for the
Boynton keeper. Twice he pulled off great saves to deny Sam Marsden and
after another Marsden shot, Tom Smith scored the rebound but was judged
to be offside. The keeper then saved a Tom Smith shot from the edge of
the area before a Ryan Goodinson cross was headed wide by Lou Jackson.
Despite all that Handsworth pressure it was Boynton that took the lead.
Curtis Priday nutmegged his marker before firing in a shot that was
blocked, but the rebound fell to Ross Thompson who made no mistake.
Handsworth levelled before half time when a scramble in the box allowed
Russ Hobson to drill the ball home
Hobson started the second half by firing over from 12 yards and Jas
Colliver went close from a long range effort and with ten minutes
remaining Sam Marsden’s brilliant through ball found substitute Ben
Shackshaft (right) and he raced clear to calmly slot the ball past the
onrushing keeper into the bottom left corner for the winner.
Referee
Alan Hull was praised by both teams as FC Inter climbed to fourth when a
Sam Read second half double gave them a derby 2-0 win over Intake Old
Boys and fifth is Brinsworth Phoenix after two Jack Hawkes goals helped
them to a 4-2 victory over New Bohemians. John Mellor gave Phoenix the
lead with a shot that went in off the bar before Hawkes doubled the lead
with a free-kick. The second half saw Sam Firth celebrate his return to
the side with an exquisite lob to make it three before Hawkes netted his
second. Zach Burns and Sam Smith both scored consolations for Bohemians
in the last five minutes.
Brad
Howe (right) scored four as Sheffield Sixers gained their first home win
of the season with a 7-0 victory over Colley. Howe got the ball rolling
and Tommy Davies added a second before Howe added two more to complete
his hat-trick. Andre Garwood-Hastings made it five before half time and
after the break Howe added his fourth before Danny Barnsley completed
the scoring.

DEC - DIVISION 2 -
Reds go second, with other wins for Jubilee and Shakey -
Mosborough Reds won the S20 derby at Beighton Magpies 3-1 to go second
in Division Two. After a goalless first half, Mosborough grabbed the
lead when Jak Hotchin’s long throw was headed home by Alix Sorsby
(left). A penalty
for
handball allowed Hotchin to double the lead from the spot, but Magpies
hit back when Danny King’s overhead kick flew into the net. Beighton
went in search of an equaliser, but they were caught by a quick break
that saw James Arrand complete the scoring.
There was another derby win as Adam
Darton and Harry Trotter goals gave Jubilee Rangers a 2-0 win at Wadsley
Bridge Athletic. Shakey climbed away from the bottom three with a 5-2
home win over Woodhouse Juniors. The first half was all Shakey and they
led 2-0 at the break thanks to Dan Booth and Dan Phelan strikes. The
second half saw Liam Moorhouse and Kyle Hardwick make it 4-0, but
Woodhouse clawed their way back into the game with Dan Howson and Ali
Ahmed goals, but any thoughts of a comeback were halted by Steve
Dickinson scoring Shakey’s fifth 2 DEC - Football can re-start - We have had confirmation that football can re-start, but because South Yorkshire is in Tier 3, any players that live outside South Yorkshire cannot play in South Yorkshire and players that live in South Yorkshire cannot play outside South Yorkshire. This woill lead to several cancellations and alterations to fixtures in December. The first issue that we have is that we are still awaiting information about travel for sport in the Government Tiers system and until we do we cannot advise which games can go ahead, or not. You will possibly be contacted directly by the County FA once they have had guidance from The FA and we will also let everyone know as soon as we hear anything. The second issue we have is that some venues have yet to decide if and when they are re-opening. Unless you have already had confirmation that your home venue is available on your home dates in December, tomorrow you need to try to find out if your home games in December can go ahead. For example we do already know that games at Warminster Road can all go ahead. If you get confirmation that your home games can go ahead, or not, you should notify your opponents, referees and Keith immediately. |
