20 MAR - Final League positions and Leading Scorers now published + 30 March League Meeting cancelled - After much deliberation the League Management has agreed the final League positions now shown in the Tables section. The Leading Scorers can be found via the Results section. All teams have been notified. 16 MAR - Season ended - After The FA today made the following statement, the League has no option than to end the season now: "Following the Government’s announcement today, for people to avoid social contact and gatherings where possible, we are now advising that all grassroots football in England is postponed for the foreseeable future. Throughout this period, we have taken Government advice with the priority being the health and wellbeing of all. We will continue to work closely with the grassroots game during this time. We are in regular communication with the Government and the situation within English football at all levels remains under regular review. Further updates will follow as needed". Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA will also postpone all courses, events and workshops until further notice." This in effect ends the League season. We still have 158 league games to play, plus 5 or more League Cup and County Cup games, so there is no possibility that the season can be ended normally. The League will now decide what we do about this season. We will also decide what to do about the League Cup, but it is obvious that the final will not be at Bramall Lane this season. If possible, we will try to come up with a solution that rewards the efforts so far. Inevitably, some teams will agree with the outcome and some won't. All we can promise is that the final decision will be taken by the independent League Committee. |

MAR - SUNDAY SENIOR CUP SEMI-FINAL -
End of the
road for Pheasant -
Despite an Andy Dawson (left) equaliser taking the tie to extra time,
Wadsley Bridge Pheasant's Sunday Senior Cup run came to an end at the
semi-final stage with a 3-1 defeat by MonkWood. MonkWood took a deserved
lead with a header, but Dawson levelled with a stunning volley just before
the break. Pheasant pressed in the second half but found chances hard to
come and it was their visitors that missed the best chance late on. That
saw extra time and in the second half a wicked deflection saw MonkWood go
ahead and with Pheasant pushing for an equaliser, MonkWood scored a third
on the break.
15 MAR - CBC PREMIER -
Sweet 16 for Redmires, but Stannington
keep up the chase -
Redmires added to Woodseats Club's relegation woes
with a 6-0 victory over them to go 16 points clear at the top of the CBC
Premier. Tom Whiting and Jon Wall gave Redmires a two goal lead at the
break and as Woodseats tired in the second half, Whiting hit his 32nd
goal of the season, before an own goal and one each for Andy Bath and Sean
Maloney completed the scoring
Stannington
Village kept up the chase with a 7-1 victory over another relegation
struggler, Cotts. Stannington took the lead early when Josh Allison headed
home from a Lewis Dickinson corner and the second came when a great
through ball by Jack Haslam found Danny Abdulla who finished well in the
far corner. A good move which ended up with Lee Johnstone’s pass finding
Dickinson to provide a left foot finish into the bottom corner and it was
four before half time when Dickinson scored his second from the penalty
spot. Number five came soon after the break when Jack Haslam nipped in
front of the goalkeeper to tap home. The sixth was a fortunate ricochet
off Danny Abdulla over the keeper, but the last was a good finish from
Alex Torr (right) just inside the box off the underside of the bar. Cotts
only reply came from Jon Dolan.
In their League Twentytwo Cup semi-final dress rehearsal, Crookes had a
narrow 2-1 victory over Wickersley Youth to keep their outside title hopes
alive. After a goalless first half, Wickersley opened the scoring seven
minutes into the second half when a Kallum Nix, Adam Daughtrey, Ross
Johnson triangle results in Johnson, juggling the ball just inside the
Crooks penalty and beating the keeper low to his right. Crookes hit back
and Joel Purkiss equalised with a low angled shot. It looked like it could
go either way, but it was Crookes that took the points with a Joe Jerrison
strike five minutes from time.
Another
narrow win went Norton Sportsman's way 3-2 over Oughtibridge WM. A Callum
Chambers penalty just before half time gave Oughtibridge the lead, but
Josh Gibson levelled with a header from a Harry Mitchell corner for Norton
after the break. Antony Holmes (left) then put Norton ahead with a
terrific solo goal and with three minutes left, Holmes set up Michael
Gibbons for Norton’s third. Oughtibridge hit back straight away with a
Brad Fletcher strike, but Norton held on for the win.

MAR - DIVISION 1 -
Civil go top as the virus causes fixture
chaos -
In the only Division One game played it saw new leaders after two Jordan
Turner (right) strikes helped Civil Sports to victory at Boynton Sports
and to the top of the table.
Civil took the lead through Turner, but Boynton went straight down to the
other end to level with a Jake Ballinger strike and they equalise straight
form kick off. Parity didn’t last long though as Turner grabbed his
second, but Ballinger also grabbed his second to level again with the last
kick of the first half. The game went Civil’s way with a big helping hand
from their hosts as Curtis Priday headed into his own goal and in the
dying minutes Sheldon Jordan rounded the Boynton keeper to seal the win
and send Civil to the top.
15 MAR - DIVISION 2 -
Leaders fall to Haydock, whilst Phoenix
start to fly again and Feathers fly for Magpies - Division Two leaders
New Bohemians
dropped
their first points of the season when Alister Haydock (left) hit the
game’s only goal to give fellow title challengers Eckington victory over
them.
Tom Cropper and Jack Brownell both went close for Bohemians in the first
half, but Eckington had also had their chances and they struck soon after
the break. Bohemians keeper Tom Denton made a fantastic reaction save, but
Eckington kept the ball alive and Haydock fired home. Bohemians pressed
for an equaliser, with Brownell coming closest, but both keepers were
determined there would be no further goals
Brinsworth
Phoenix flew back up to second with a 4-1 victory at Darfield United.
After a goalless first half Phoenix got a deserved lead soon after the
break when Jack Hawkes (right) smashed home after a through ball from man
of the match Rob Gardiner. Bradley Hardy then got his name on the
scoresheet with a peach of a free kick that two keepers would have
struggled to save. New signing Callum Turner got on the scoresheet with a
well worked goal after some slick passing between Hardy and John Mellor.
Mark Thornton got his customary header after link up play between Liam
Jacobi and Mellor to make it 4-0 and although Jordan Beardsley pulled one
back for Darfield it was just a consolation. At the foot of the table, Beighton Magpies, with the help of a Dale Featherstone (left) hat-trick, beat fellow strugglers Killamarsh Juniors 4-3. Magpies took a three goal lead with strikes from Thomas Rofe, and two from Dale Featherstone, his second a superb lob over the keeper. Instead of giving up, Killamarsh fought back with two from Alex Platton and one from Liam Barley to level the scores. Magpies shook themselves and pressed, but missed chance after chance until Featherstone was presented with a gift and completed his hat trick with a calm finish past the keeper to give Magpies their second home win of the season. Another struggler, Mosborough Reds, also had a narrow victory, 3-2 over Prince of Wales, to also give them their second home win of the season. Reds took an early lead when an Oliver Tupling corner was headed back across the box by Conor Fields for Scott Williams to score, but Prince levelled when a Charlie Hawkins corner was knocked down by Dan Nielson for Liam South to turn home. Reds went ahead again in the second half when an Adam Russell free kick beat the keeper. Reds missed a great chance to extend it when James Arrand smashed a penalty over the bar, but they did get a third when Tupling scored from outside the box. Prince got back into it when Luke Simmonds despatched a penalty after Aaron Watts had been brought down, but Reds held on. |
13 MAR - Games on 15 March - The League has received advice from The FA (via the County FA) that, in England, and in line with the UK government policy, Grassroots football can continue for the time being. In view of this, clubs can play their games this weekend, but....... Should any club not want to take the risk, or are unable to play because their ground is closed, we will allow them to not play this weekend, but they must inform their opponents and Keith, ASAP & NO LATER THAN NOON SATURDAY 14 MARCH, and the home club must immediately inform the referee. We might well be just delaying the inevitable, but want to allow clubs to make their own decision until such times as the UK Government change their advice. We will let you know if the advice changes with regard to Grassroots football.

Redmires
nick it to go 13 points clear -
Tom Whiting
(left) grabbed the game’s only goal in the first half to give Redmires a
narrow victory at Wickersley Youth, but they were pushed all the way by
their hosts. That win puts them 13 points clear at the top of the CBC
Premier after second place Royal Earl needed a last gasp Steve Brammer
goal to rescue a point from a 2-2 draw with Crookes. Johno Williams gave
Earl the lead from a quick-thinking free kick. Crookes levelled after the
break with a Pete Smith header and they took the lead just ten minutes
from time with an Ehsan Mohammed shot. That looked as if it was the winner
until Brammer (right) scored with virtually the last kick of the game
Stannington Village kept up the title chase
with a 3-0 victory at Cotts. Danny Smith sent Jack Haslam away and his
cross was headed home by Lewis Dickinson and soon after Dickinson’s free
kick found Josh Allison and he chested down for Haslam to double the lead
into the far corner. Although Cotts competed better in the second half,
they still needed their keeper to make several good saves to stay in the
game, but he was finally beaten in the dying minutes when Dan Green found
Dean Jepson and he finished into the bottom corner.
Wadsley
Bridge Pheasant beat Woodseats Club 3-1 to end the visitors mini-revival.
Adam Askwith gave Pheasant the lead, but Jamie Willis took advantage of a
mistake by the keeper to equalise with a clever finish. Pheasant regained
the lead when Lewis Fothergil fired home the rebound after his first shot
had been saved and Jordan Livett (left) clinched the points with a free
kick into the top corner.
Oughtibridge WM climbed out of the bottom
three with a 3-1 home win over Handsworth Pub, but it was Handsworth that
struck first when Liam Greenfield followed up to score after keeper Keiran
Osborne had saved a penalty. Oughtibridge then had one disallowed and one
cleared off the line before Aidy Tomlin headed across goal for Matthew
Harrison to head home. Harrison gave Oughtibridge the lead in the second
half with another header and near the end Keiran Ward set up Chas Tunnard
to score Oughtibridge’s third.

MAR - DIVISION 1 -
Oaks stun the leaders and Southey put Intake to the sword – Third
place Norton Oaks narrowed the gap
at the top to just three points by thumping Division One leaders Cobden
View 5-1. Cobden struck first when an Alex Pursehouse cross was converted
by Sam Porter, but Oaks levelled before the break with a Lewis Trevett
strike. After the break Will Carlisle hit a screamer to put Oaks ahead,
before Scott Stringer (right) had a more simple tap-in to make it three.
Oaks then needed their keeper to keep Cobden at bay before Carlisle lobbed
home a fourth and Stringer a wind-assisted fifth.
Fourth place Intake Old Boys now have Southey Social breathing down their
necks after Southey beat them 7-3. Southey struck first when Carlton Carty
finished a Ryan Whitney pass and although Intake soon levelled through
Ryan Hall, Southey were back in front with a terrific Ryan Damms finish.
Damms then set up Jack Dickens for a clinical finish, before a Dickens
corner was turned in by Todd Guest. Southey continued to dominate after
the break and a fifth came from a Jamie Hopkins free kick, before Carty
netted his second to make it six. Dan White and Richard Ellin pulled two
back for Intake, but Southey had the final say with Damms second.
The
biggest threat to the top clubs could well be Mosborough Whites and
Sheffield Sixs. Whites beat Boynton Sports 2-0 with the help of two Luke
Walker strikes, whilst a Harry Buxton (left) treble and one from Connor
Lomax gave Sixs to a narrow 4-3 victory over Colley. Chris Onja had
briefly levelled for Colley and late Matt Meeney and Matt Jebson goals had
Sixs wobbling but they held on to take the points.
Chapeltown RBL improved their chances of avoiding the drop with an
exciting 5-4 win over bottom club Woodhouse Juniors. Woodhouse started
strongly and Leon Cheslett gave them a two goal half time lead. RBL came
out a different team in the second half, skipper Joe Wadsworth halved the
deficit less than a minute in and a minute later and they were level when
Morgan Cowell showed his poachers instinct from six yards, RBL were hit by
two sucker punches as Cheslett and Tom Bland restored Woodhouse’s two goal
lead. RBL hit back again when Joe Moorhouse raced on to a Cowell pass to
fire low past the keeper and when an RBL corner was only half cleared,
Elliot Rogan looped a fine effort back over the keeper to level. Both side
had chances but fittingly the best goal of the game was the decider, Joe
Moorhouse latched onto a through ball and from 20 yards out volleyed
across the keeper from the apex of the area and it arrowed into the far
top corner to give RBL the points.

MAR - DIVISION 2 -
Gambles and Stothard doubles as Eckington shock Nether Green, but
leaders make no mistake -
A week after letting a four goal lead slip to the same opponents,
Eckington made no mistake this time to beat second place Nether Green 5-2.
Eckington took the lead when a
long throw was met by Ben Renshaw, but Nether Green levelled just before
half time when they were awarded a penalty for handball by Eckington
skipper Mitch Walker and Jack Hollis-Smith scored from the spot.
That result allowed leaders New
Bohemians to go six points clear with their 4-1 victory over Brinsworth
Phoenix. After Bohemians had had a Sam Smith effort disallowed for
offside, it was Phoenix that took the lead with a Jack Hawkes strike.
Bohemians levelled on the stroke of half-time when centre back Will
Beaumont won the ball on the half way line before advancing to hit a
rocket past the keeper. Zach Burns flicked on for Sam Brown to give
Bohemians the lead with a left foot curler and Matt Beck made it three
when a cross found him unmarked at the back post. Smith finished the
scoring with a simple tap-in, but it might have been a few more had it not
been for Phoenix keeper Corey Hawksworth.
That
defeat saw Phoenix overtaken by Darfield United after two Elliott Phelan
strikes cancelled out a Liam Moorhouse opener to give Darfield a 2-1
victory at Shakey. Wadsley Jack Athletic kept their promotion hopes alive
with a 7-2 victory over Cadbury. Leon Dearns with two, Niall Wilkinson
(left) and a George Scott penalty gave Wadsley a 4-0 lead at the break.
Ethan Wilkinson made it five soon after the break, but instead of folding
Cadbury pulled one back through Ben Bottomley. Joe Hall and Niall
Wilkinson made it seven for Wadsley, but Benji Holmes grabbed a deserved
second for Cadbury.
Prince of Wales had a good 6-0 win
over Killamarsh Juniors. Charlie Hawkins set up George Duffin to open the
scoring, before Grimsby born Dan Nielson rose like a salmon to double
Prince’s lead. Nielson headed his second as Hawkins claimed a third
assist. Barry Chan then supplied the cut-back for Hawkins to score, before
Brad Gray slid the ball for Duffin to score his second. They saved the
best for last when Ben Sheldon hit a screamer from almost 40 yards. |
7 MARCH - TWENTYTWO CUP - Semi-Final draw sees Redmires meet Stannington and Wickersley Youth face Crookes - The League Twentytwo Cup semi-final draw was made by the Sheffield Star's journalist James Shields (right) in Sheffield United's Media suite before the Blades game with Norwich City and it saw Redmires v Stannington Village and Wickersley Youth v Crookes. The ties to be played on Sunday 12 April at the HSBC Sports Ground, with both games kicking-off at 11 am.

Holders go out to a rampant Stannington -
Holders Royal Earl lost their grip on the League Twentytwo Cup trophy as
two Jack Haslam goals helped Stannington Village to victory. Stannington
started brightly and took an early lead when Sam Scrivens found Lewis
Dickinson to blast home. A second came straight after when Haslam nipped
past the defender before chipping the ball over the keeper. Richard Tootle
pulled one back for Earl, but Stannington restored their two goal lead
just before half time when a Dickinson corner was glanced home by Haslam.
Earl started the second half on the front foot, but after defending well
it was Stannington that scored next when Danny Smith was brought down just
outside the area and Callum Lee bent the ball over the wall. A fifth came
soon after when Scrivens intercepted a poor back pass to score and
although Connor Chappell netted a good free kick for Earl there was no
stopping Stannington’s march into the semi-finals.

Redmires
go goal crazy to open up an 11 point gap -
Redmires opened
up an 11 point gap at the top with an amazing 10-0 victory over
Oughtibridge WM, with all the goals coming in the second half.
Oughtibridge had more than held their own in the first half, but when Matt
Reay put Redmires ahead after the break, the floodgates opened. Tom
Whiting took his league tally to 24 with six, along with others from
George Rudd, Jake Gamban and Conall Jacklin.
Crookes maintained their challenge with a
6-0 victory over a Handsworth Pub that could yet be pulled into the
relegation struggle. Chris Cottyn gave Crookes a sixth minute lead and it
was doubled before half time by Matt Cowen. Handsworth stayed in the game
until the last five minutes when goals from Joel Purkiss, Tom Newman,
James Knowles and Joe Jerrison put Crookes clear.
Woodseats Club came from behind against
Cotts to win the battle of the bottom two to boost their chances of
avoiding the drop. Woodseats took an early lead with a Russ Westby
penalty, but two quick goals by Cotts put the visitors ahead and despite
fierce pressure from Woodseats a determined Cotts defence held on to half
time. Woodseats continued to pour forward after the break and gained their
reward when Sam Read equalised and they took the lead when a Chris Lees
cross evaded everyone to find the net. Cotts tried to respond, but this
time it was the Woodseats defence that held firm.

MAR - DIVISION 1 -
Colley leave it late to salvage a point - The
only Division One game played saw Colley climb back into fifth by coming
from two down to salvage a 3-3 draw with Chapeltown RBL. James Dimelow
netted from an acute angle to give Chapeltown a half time lead and
although Ildephonse Hussein levelled for Colley after the break, goals
from Jack Cranswick and Jack Marlow looked to have given Chapeltown a
valuable three points. Colley knew they had to take something from the
game to keep their promotion hopes alive and Billy Thorley pulled one back
with ten minutes remaining and with virtually the last kick of the game,
Ian Sharland hit a screamer from distance to give them a draw.

MAR - DIVISION 2 -
Renishaw four not enough to see off Green -
Joe Renishaw scored four times in the first half hour to put Eckington in
control against title rivals Nether Green, but Green fought back with
goals from Jack Hollis-Smith with two and one each from Harry Pollard and
Alfie Dodsworth to draw 4-4.
Darfield United went back to fourth
with a 6-2 victory over Beighton Magpies. Jordan Beardsley’s header from
an Elliott Phelan cross put Darfield ahead at the break, but Beighton
deservedly levelled after half time through Liam Milne. A change of
formation saw Darfield gain control and they went back in front when Ethan
White met Sam Ackroyd’s free kick with a glancing header. Kallum McDermott
then bundled in their third, before Beardsley’s second made it four.
Ackroyd and Phelan added two more before Milne netted a late second for
Beighton.
Prince of Wales came from two down to
claim their second away win of the season, 3-2 at Killamarsh Juniors. Ada
Nundy’s corner flew straight in to put Killamarsh ahead and they doubled
their lead before half time with an Alex Platton strike. Prince came out
more determined after the break and Dale Furniss prodded home to pull one
back. Liam South equalised when he was first to the ball after the keeper
had spilled a Furniss shot. With five minutes remaining Prince stole all
three points when Bradley ‘Bones’ Gray headed on for Luke Simmonds to go
through and beat the keeper. |
