20-Dec - Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to everyone - The League would like to wish all players, officials, referees, sponsors and supporters the very best for a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy and Prosperous New Year. |
17 DEC - Hastings wins the battle to be the Xmas Number 1 - New Bohemians striker James Hastings (left) tops the Blades Super Draw League's leading scorers charts at Xmas with 14 goals in the Division Two side's 8 gaes so far. He has also scored another 4 in Bohemians' Sunday Cup ties. Just a goal behind him in League games is CPC Premier Rredmires' ace marksman Tom Whiting with 13 goals after scoring in all his side's 5 League games so far. Whiting's record is even more remarkable as he has also scored in all his side's 5 League Twentytwo Cup and Senior Sunday Cup games - netting a further 14 times. Three goals behind him with 10 league goals is the Division One leading scorer, Norton Oaks' Richard Stirrup.

-
It's no Joke as Wickersley lose out in last minute -
After giving the favourites an almighty tussle Wickersley Youth went out
of the Sunday Senior Cup to a goal in the last few seconds for the three
time holders Joker.
Wickersley going into the game with 8 wins on the trot and honours were
even during the first half. Wickersley had an early chance from Jonny
Claxton cleared off the Joker line, whilst the Wickersley keeper, Jon
Reeds, command his area to keep Joker at bay.
The second half started with both sides losing key players to injury and
it was Joker that went ahead when a shot took a deflection, before
hitting a divot to leave a Joker forward with the easiest of chances.
Wickersley responded and when the Joker keeper could only parry Mike
Cookson’s shot and the goal hungry, Jamie Lee Fawcett was on hand to
slam the rebound home. Extra time was just seconds away when a quick
breakaway saw Joker get the winner.
15 DEC - SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP
-
None played, but Southey and Nether Green look set to go through -
None of the three Sunday Junior Cup ties went ahead, but after their
opponents failed to get a team, it looks as if both Southey Social and
Nether Green will go through by default. Sheffield Sixs tie with
Rossington was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

DEC - CBC PREMIER -
Wins
for Earl, Redmires and Stannington -
CBC Premier
leaders Royal Earl had to come from a goal down to overcome a below
strength Cotts 3-1. Despite their scratch side, it was Cotts that had a
half time lead after Harry Shaw climbed highest at a corner to head
home. A brilliant solo goal by Mike Towey (right) levelled the scores
after the break, before Gareth Simons hit a 25 yarder to put Earl ahead.
They clinched the points when a long throw from Danny Cardwell was
forced home by Tom Nolan.
Second place Redmires also found
themselves a goal down
against Norton Sportsman, before two more
Tom Whiting strikes helped them recover to also gain a 3-1 victory.
Norton took the lead in a tight first half when Danny Rogers met Antony
Holmes’ cross and they started the second half by twice hitting the bar
when they might have done better. They paid the price when Redmires ace
marksman Tom Whiting maintained his record of goals in every game this
season with a header from Jon Wall’s corner.
Norton continued to create and miss
chances and they again paid the price when a defensive error allowed
Danny Reet to put Redmires ahead. Norton was forced to push men forward
to try to something from the game, but a swift break saw Whiting brought
down in the area and he picked himself up to score his second from the
penalty spot.
Stannington Village had a more
straightforward 2-0 victory against a Woodseats Club still searching for
their first point of the season. Stannington went ahead when a Lewis
Dickinson corner fell kindly for Piers Bond to blast home and they
doubled their lead just before half time when a clumsy challenge led to
the penalty that Dickinson coolly put into the bottom corner. Woodseats
worked hard to stay in the game, but needed their keeper to make several
good saves, including a last minute penalty save to deny Jack Ridge.
15 DEC - DIVISION 1 -
Leaders held, but Intake make no mistake -
Division One leaders Cobden View saw their lead cut to just a point
after they had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Chapeltown
RBL. Cobden made a confident start and took the lead when Mike McVay’s
spectacular shot from 30 yards took the keeper by surprise. RBL got back
into the game before half time when Elliott Rogan chipped a ball to the
left for Ben Wright to cut inside and although the keeper kept his shot
out he found it too hot to hold and Jack Cranswick on his debut was on
hand to slam the rebound home. Cobden came closest to winning it in the
second half when Joe Taylor hit the bar, but they had to settle for a
point.
Second
place Intake Old Boys took full advantage as two Jon Rossiter (left)
goals helped them to a 5-1 victory over Colley to cut Cobden's lead to
just one point. Colley struck first through Regan
Dempsey after just ten minutes, but that was as good as it got for them
as they were second best all over the pitch. Rossiter levelled with a 25
yarder before half time and it became one-way traffic after the break.
Elliott Coles, Dan White and Callum Paine put Intake in command, before
Rossiter his his second.
Civil Sports couldn't match that as they let a two goal lead slip before
drawing 2-2 at Woodhouse Juniors. A Stacey Sharif penalty and a James
Brown strike gave Civil a two goal lead at the break, but Woodhouse
fought back in the second half and goals from Alex Law and Matt Moorwood
gave them a share of the spoils.
15 DEC - DIVISION 2 -
Phoenix undone by Darfield and Shakey's poor run continues, but a
magnificent seven for Prince –
In Division Two third place Brinsworth Phoenix saw their promotion hopes
hit as they suffered a 3-0 home defeat by fourth place Darfield United.
Phoenix missed two great chances to go ahead, but the woodwork came to
Darfield’s rescue both times, but as half time approached it was
Darfield’s turn to hit the woodwork twice. After the break the opener
came when Elliott Phelan was brought down in the area and Jordan
Beardsley scored from the spot. Darfield keeper Damon Kay then produced
the save of the game to maintain their lead, before Ethan White produced
a superb curled finish to double Darfield’s lead. Arron Soar completed
the scoring with a stunning finish into the top corner from 25 yards.
After new signing Nathan Forbes had
given them an early lead, Shakey slumped to their fifth defeat in seven
games, 4-3 at Wadsley Jack Athletic. Two George Scott strikes and one
from Reece James put Wadsley in command and although Liam Moorhouse
pulled one back for Shakey, Lewis Smith made it 4-2. Michael Taylor
pulled another back for Shakey, but they couldn’t force an equaliser.
Prince
of Wales scored seven for the first time since joining the League five
years ago to record their biggest ever win against Beighton Magpies. A
Charlie Hawkins (right) corner fell kindly for Matt Waterhouse to put
Prince ahead and it was a wind-assisted Hawkins shot that doubled their
lead. Hawkins hit his second at the second attempt after being put
through by Waterhouse and he completed his hat-trick after being put
through by Luke Simmonds. Kurt Berry headed the fifth from a whipped
cross by Dan Neilson, before a Luke Simmonds double completed the
scoring. 13 DEC - LEAGUE TWENTYTWO CUP - Quarter Final draw - Sheffield United's Club Historian and Supporter Liaison John Garrett and his wife Sarah helped make the draw for the League Twentytwo Cup and it saw the last remaining Division Two side Eckington BFC drawn against CBC Premier Wickersley Youth. Division One Chapeltown RBL have a tough task against semi-finalists for the last two seasons, Crookes. The only certain all-CBC Premier tie sees Redmires paired with Norton Sportsman, but there could be another as Royal Earl will face Stannington Village if they both come through their delayed ties. The full draw is: Crookes FC v Chapeltown RBL; Redmires v Norton Sportsman; Stannington Village or Southey Social v Boynton Sports or Royal Earl; Wickersley Youth OV v Eckington BFC. The two delayed ties and three Quarter Final ties will be scheduled for 12 January, providing there are no complications with County FA Sunday Cup ties. |

DEC - SUNDAY SENIOR CUP
-
Kane shows he's able to send Pheasant through, but Crookes go out -
A
Kane Doughty extra time winner against Brinsworth Whitehill sent Wadsley
Bridge Pheasant into the last 8 of the Sunday Senior Cup. Brinsworth
were off the mark quickly, taking a deserved lead and missing other good
first half chances to increase it. With the wind at their back in the
second half, Pheasant took control and equalised with an Adam Askwith
(left) strike. They took the lead with a wind-assisted John Travis
corner, but they were caught out by a swift break for a Brinsworth
equaliser. That took the game into extra time and after Doughty put
Pheasant back in front they saw the game out. Despite taking the lead
with Tom Islip and Joel Purkiss goals, Crookes run ended when
Rotherham's AFP hit back to win 3-2.

DEC - SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP
-
Walker at the double to help Whites through, but Wadsley Jack go out
- In the Sunday Junior Cup, Mosborough Whites
finally won their much delayed tie with Birley B 3-2. Luke Walker
(right) gave Whites a first half lead and although it was cancelled out
after the break, Walker was at the back post to restore Whites lead
almost immediately. After playing a one-two with Dec Healy, Chris Howard
made it 3-1 and although Birley took advantage of an early Xmas present
to pull one back, Whites held on to go through to the last 16 where they
will face fellow Blades Super Draw League side Nether Green. Wadsley
Jack Athletic’s run came to an end though with a 2-0 defeat by FC
Portcullis.

DEC - CBC PREMIER -
Big
wins for Redmires and Sportsman as top four all win -
There was big wins for both Redmires, at
Oughtibridge WM, and Norton Sportsman, at Cotts, as the CBC Premier’s
top four all win. Along with Jon Wall, Conall Jacklin and Danny Reet’s
exquisite lob, Tom Whiting (left) continued his amazing record of goals
in every game of the season with two more in second place Redmires’ 5-0
win at Oughtibridge WM to take his tally to 25 in all competitions so
far this season. Montelle Kamara
struck twice as Norton Sportsman moved up to fourth with a 7-1 win at
Cotts. Conner Pryde crossed for Kamara’s first after just five minutes
and Pryde was again the provider for a Danny Rogers tap-in. Antony
Holmes made it three just before half time and, just after the break,
Kamara volleyed home a Robert Cupitt cross for his second. Chris Lewis,
Andy Gibbons and Chris Winters added Norton’s others, whilst Cotts sole
reply came from Harry Shaw.
Danny
Cardwell gave leaders Royal Earl an early lead against bottom of the
table Woodseats Club, but Woodseats showed this was going to be no
pushover and deservedly levelled through Ben Southwell. It looked like
Woodseats would get their first point of the season until Oliver
Beaumont grabbed a second half winner for Earl. Third place Stannington
Village had an equally narrow 2-1 victory at Handsworth Pub. Piers Bond
provided the chance for Lee Johnstone (right) to put Village in front,
before Joe Hawksworth and Lewis Dickinson combined to provide the chance
for Johnstone to slide the ball home for his second. After the break,
keeper Nathan Ryan kept Handsworth at bay with a terrific penalty save,
but he was beaten by a Carl Bowler header to leave Stannington hanging
on for the final few minutes.

DEC - DIVISION 1 -
Southey into top three and Oaks stun Boynton -
Southey Social climbed into Division One’s top three with a 2-0 victory
at Chapeltown RBL. Byron Mullen provided the assist for Ryan Whitney to
open the scoring and after Kieran Hopkinson had hit a post in the second
half, he doubled Southey’s lead from the penalty spot after Mullen had
been brought down.
Just
behind them is Norton Oaks after a Richard Stirrup (left) hat-trick
helped them to a sensational 7-5 victory over Boynton Sports. Stirrup’s
first was cancelled out by Joe Beachell and although Sam Smedley
volleyed Oaks in front again it was cancelled out by an Evan Watson free
kick. Lewis Trevett and Jordan Noble goals before half time seemed to
put Oaks in command, but Boynton hit back after the break through two
Ross Thompson goals – the second a penalty.
The down side of that was that in winning the penalty, Lee Jordan
suffered a broken collarbone and not too long afterwards Will Carlisle
put Oaks back in front again. Boynton equalised again through Watson,
but when Stirrup hit his second and third goals for Oaks there
was no way back for the visitors.
Sheffield Sixs made it four
consecutive League and Cup wins with a 3-2 victory over Ranch, but
despite Ranch having to play the whole game with just 10 men, they
really made Sixs work hard for it. Jay Lindsay gave Ranch a half time
lead, but a Danny Barnsley strike and an own goal put Sixs in front
after the break. Matt Lindsay levelled for Ranch and it looked like they
would take a deserved point home, but, just as the game was entering
time added on, Connor Lomax hit Sixs winner from the edge of the area.

DEC - DIVISION 2 -
Bohemians extend their lead as Green held by Magpies, whilst Hawkes
get his eye in -
New Bohemians extended their lead at the top of Division Two after their
4-1 victory over Darfield United. Despite only being able to field 10
men, Darfield shocked the leaders when Elliott Phelan took advantage of
a defensive error to open the scoring, but the leaders were back on
level terms before the break with a neat finish from Liam Goodall.
Bohemians took the lead with one of the goals of the season as James
Hastings volleyed the ball from inside the centre circle into the top
corner and he soon added a second from the edge of the area. Sam Smith
completed the scoring when he was first to a rebound off the keeper.
The
lead at the top was extended after a Beighton Magpies that started the
day at the bottom of the table surprisingly held second place Nether
Green to a 2-2 draw. It might have been much worse for Green after goals
from Danny King (right) and Todd Saxelby gave Beighton a shock two goal
lead. The referee ruled that a third ‘goal’ hadn’t crossed the line and
Green managed to pull one back before half time through Harry Pollard.
Brad Smith levelled for Green in the second half, but it was Beighton
that looked the more likely winners with the Green keeper needing to be
at his best to keep them out.
Brinsworth Phoenix are now just a
point behind Green after Jack Hawkes scored four in their 5-1 victory
over Mosborough Reds. John Mellor set Hawkes up for his first, but full
back Alex Maybury hit a stunning free kick to bring Reds level. Hawkes
set up Sam Firth to put Phoenix back in front. After that it was the
Hawkes show as Phoenix proved too strong. Killamarsh Juniors keeper Jack
Thorpe kept his first clean sheet of the season and it meant that David
Singh’s spectacular goal was enough to give them just their second win
of the season, 1-0 over Cadbury. |

DEC - DIVISION 1 -
Jordan double lifts Boyton into the top three and Colley win a thriller
-
Lee Jordan (left) scored two and made one as Boynton Sports moved up to
third in Division One with victory over Chapeltown RBL.
After a string of sub-par performances, Boynton made a concerted effort
to start stronger and with their passing much better than in recent
weeks. They created several early chances for striker Jake Ballinger,
but he had strayed offside every single time. A goal had to come and Lee
Jordan gave his Xabi Alonso impression by swivelling inside his own half
and volleying the ball 70 yards to Kurtis Cockburn on the right wing,
allowing him to outpace the Chapeltown defence and fire home with his
right foot.
Despite their dominance, some dogged Chapeltown defending made sure that
Boynton couldn’t add to their lead in the first half, but they started
the second where they left off and deservedly got a second when Jordan
danced around three challenges before smashing the ball into the bottom
corner from the edge of the area. More chances came, but Ballinger was
again caught offside several times and it looked like it could be costly
when Elliott Rogan fired a free kick over the wall to make it 2-1, but
Jordan made a run from inside his own half before rounding the keeper to
score his second of the game.
Colley
also moved up the table to fifth after winning a thriller, 5-3, against
Ranch in the only other Division One game to survive the frost. Colley
took the lead in the first minute when they won a corner, from which
Ildefonse Hussain (right) headed home. Just five minutes later they
doubled their lead when Danny Parker raced through before lobbing the
Ranch keeper. Ranch kept themselves in the game when Josh Naylor pulled
a goal back before the break and the second half was just minutes old
when Tom Evans hit their equaliser.
Colley responded and retook the lead with a Regan Dempsey strike, but
Ranch hit back again and levelled a second time with a Jay Lindsay goal.
It was end-to-end stuff now and it was Colley that got their noses in
front again when Christopher Onja headed home and they clinched the
three points five minutes from time when they were awarded a penalty,
which was confidently slotted home by Chris Fowler.

Eckington see off Shakey to move up -
Tom Gambles, Alister Haydock and Tom Gardiner were all on target as
Eckington moved third with a 3-1 home win over Shakey in the only
Division Two game to survive the frost.
A good lively start to the game saw Eckington have the majority of the
ball during the early opening period. They took the lead when Daniel
Biggin was brought down in the box and Tom Gambles (left) stepped up to
score the penalty. Although there was chances at both ends, that the
only goal of the first half
The second half again started in the same lively fashion with Shakey
creating a couple of dangerous chances, but it was Eckington that struck
again when a ball from the right deflected off the post and Alister
Haydock was on hand to swivel on the ball before finding the bottom
corner. Shakey hit back when a shot came back off the post, Steve
Dickinson pounced to score despite the best attempts of the Eckington
keeper Luke Sanderson. Both sides continued to make chances, but it was
Eckington that clinched it in the final minute when Tom Gardiner was
brought down in the box for their second penalty of the game and he
picked himself up to put the penalty into the bottom corner. The result
moved Eckington into the automatic promotion places, but despite Shakey
now going six games without a win they will feel that one must come soon
with more performances like this one. |
