NOV - SUNDAY SENIOR CUP
- Thornton chews up Manor Barn -
Ben Thornton (left)
scored twice as Wickersley Youth became the third Blades Super Draw League side
through to Round 4 of the Sunday Senior Cup with a 3-2 victory over Rotherham's
Manor Barn.
On a heavy and difficult pitch both sides created chances in an even
matched start. Wickersley keeper Jon Reed halted the Barn’s progress with a
miraculous save from a header in the six-yard box, diving low to his right and
pushing it around the post. Wickersley got their noses in front before half time
when Joe McGuiness was tripped by the Barn keeper at the end of a darting run
inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Thornton stepped up and hit
a low hard unstoppable drive into the net.
After half time, Manor Barn levelled with a shot from the edge of the area, but Wickersley soon regained their lead when McGuiness scored following a Daughtrey corner. Barn hit back and quickly levelled a second time, but Wickersley weren’t to be stopped. A ball from keeper Nathan Taylor found Thornton in space on the left flank and he cut inside two defenders before sidefooting past the Barn keeper.
Wickersley will face either Joker or Stannington Park in Round 4 on 15
December if the other tie is settled. The other teams through are Wadsley Bridge
Pheasant, who will entertain Brinsworth Whitehill 'A' and Crookes, who will
entertain AFP. These two ties are due to be played on 8 December.

NOV - SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP
- Bohemians and Southey go through -
Jack Brownell (right)
and James Hastings were both on target as New Bohemians beat their Division Two
title rivals Eckington Boys 2-0 to reach Round 4 of the Sunday Junior Cup.
Eckington started at a great pace with an early chance for Liam Foulstone
that was well saved by the keeper, but it was Bohemians that took a half
time lead with a fantastic free kick from Brownell. Although both sides had
chances in the second half, it was a superb solo goal from Hastings that
clinched a place in the last 16 for Bohemians.
Also through is Division One Southey Social after Ryan Damms and Todd
Guest goals gave them a terrific 2-1 victory at Denaby United. Southey took
control of a scrappy game early and Byron Mullen, who gave the home defence a
torrid time all through the game, hit the post. Southey broke the deadlock with
a more route one goal when keeper Callum Jones’ clearance found Carlton Carty.
His lob over the keeper hit the post but Damms was first to the rebound to
score.
The second half saw Denaby start brightly and after one outstanding save
by Jones, Denaby equalised. Not Southey shook themselves down to regain control
and when Jamie Hopkins header from a Jack Dickens corner was tipped onto the
bar, it fell to skipper Guest to volley home the winner. Dickens was only inches
away from a third as Southey saw the game out to make it four of our teams
through to the last 16, with two more still to play their Round 3 ties.
Just one team went out to a team outside the Blades
Super Draw, with Ranch, after taking a lead through Ty Gunter, losing 3-1 to
Rotherham’s unbeaten Division Three leaders, City Knights.

NOV - CBC PREMIER -
Alex Ripps into Pheasant, whilst Callum is
a Chamber of horrors for Stannington and Mitchell leaves it late for Sportsman -
Alex Rippon (left) hit a hat-trick as Royal Earl kept top spot in the CBC
Premier with victory over champions Wadsley Bridge Pheasant in an absolute
thriller.
Earl started well and
took the lead when Sam Smith beat the visitors offside trap, but Pheasant were
level at half time thanks to a Jordon Stocks penalty. After the break, a quickly
taken corner saw Rippon catch the Pheasant defence napping to score his first,
before taking advantage of a defensive howler for his second. Another mix up in
the Pheasant defence allowed Rippon to complete his hat-trick, before Kane
Doughty pulled one back for the visitors. Earl restored their three goal lead
when Smith’s shot took a cruel deflection, but Pheasant had the leaders hanging
on after a Luke Fletcher penalty and another Doughty strike made it 5.4.
Stannington Village's title hopes were hit as Callum Chambers netted a
late winner to give Oughtibridge WM a 3-2 victory over them. Although
Stannington started the brightest, it was Oughtibridge that soon started to have
the majority of the play and deservedly took the lead when Chas Tunnard tucked
away a penalty after a Kurt Turner shot had been handled. Stannington equalised
with the last kick of the first half when Joe Barker’s cross allowed Lewis
Dickinson to round the keeper to score.
After
the break, it was Oughtibridge that started brightly and they regained the lead
when Brad Fletcher hit a 35 yarder into the top corner. Stannington hit back
hard and only a man of the match performance by Oughtibridge keeper Kieran
Osborne kept his side ahead with a string of fine saves, but an equaliser
finally came when Alex Torr crossed for Dickinson to smash home his second.
Stannington looked likely to win it, but were caught by a quick break when great
work from Callum Simms allowed Callum Chambers (right) to score. Dean Jepson
immediately had a chance to level, but once again Osbourne was up to the task
and Oughtibridge held on.
Norton
Sportsman moved into contention thanks to Harry Mitchell's last minute winner at
Handsworth Pub. Sportsman had Chris Lewis’s first half effort ruled out for
handball, but their greater fitness began to tell and as the game moved into
stoppage time, Chris Winters ran through before squaring the ball for Mitchell
(left) to stab home the game’s only goal.
24 NOV - DIVISION 1 - Coles treble moves Intake up to second, whilst Sixs get off the mark - Elliot Coles hit a quick-fire hat-trick as Intake Old Boys beat Woodhouse Juniors 5-2 to move up to second in Division Two. A Darren Robinson header gave Intake a half time lead and although Billy Wakefield equalised for Woodhouse just after the break, super sub Coles netted a quick fire hat trick to put Intake in command. Leon Cheslett netted a second for Woodhouse, but Jack Heald scored Intake’s fifth to make the points secure.
Another
seven-goal game saw Sheffield Sixs finally gain their first points of the season
with a narrow 4-3 victory over Norton Oaks. Harry Buxton (right) fastened onto
Danny Barnsley’s through ball to give Sixs an early lead and Tommy Davies
knocked home a corner to double it. Richard Stirrup pulled one back for Oaks
before the break, but Brad Howe set up Barnsley to restore Sixs two goal lead
midway through the second half. Buxton provided the assist for Howe to add Sixs
fourth, but Stirrup scored an astonishing goal from the half way line to reduce
Oaks’ arrears. Sixs missed an opportunity to sew the game up when Joel Elms
blazed a penalty wide, but they took the points despite Oli West’s third for
Oaks in injury time.

NOV - DIVISION 2 -
Sol treble sees Green close the gap, but
Phoenix and Darfield keep pace with them - Sol Limb (Left) hit a
hat-trick as Nether Green closed up on the Division Two leaders with a 5-2
victory over Cadbury. Tom Davis and Brad Smith netted Green’s others, with Benji
Holmes and Josh Grant netting for Cadbury
Brinsworth Phoenix moved up to third with a 4-1 away win at Prince of
Wales.
After Jack Hawkes had been brought down in the area, Sam Firth’ eighth of the
season from the penalty spot got the ball rolling.
Luke Simmonds levelled for Prince with a stopping header from Matt Waterhouse’s
cross, but Hawkes produced a cool finish to put Phoenix back in front. A
great header by Mark Thornton from John Mellor’s corner made it three and
Joel Statham hit a belter of a half volley in off a
post to complete the scoring.
Darfield
United moved up to fourth after they completed an eight-day double over
Killamarsh Juniors with a 5-0 away win. Jordan Beardsley, Sam Ackroyd and Sean
Bunyan (right) gave Darfield a three goal interval lead and despite a string of
good saves by the Killamarsh keeper, Arron Soar and Connor Wilks added two more
in the second half.
Shakey slipped two places after their 1-1 draw with Mosborough Reds meant
they have taken just two points from their last five games. Reds took a first
half lead when a ball from the left was tapped home by Josh Smith, but Shakey
looked more determined after the break and after having two efforts cleared off
the line, they finally got an equaliser when Reds keeper Luke Fogg could only
parry a shot and Michael Taylor was on hand at the back post to score.

NOV - SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP
-
Brad Smith treble helps Nether Green see off Norton and another Brad
shows Howe for Sixs -
With the
weather again causing havoc, just four Sunday Junior Cup ties involving our
clubs went ahead. The all-Blades Super Draw tie at Sheffield Sixs saw Brad Howe
(right) score twice to help Division One Sixs proceed 5-2 at the expense of
Division Two Prince of Wales. Goals from Howe, Jordan Swinson and Harry Buxton
had Sixs three up in just eight minutes. One from Danny Barnsley and Howe’s
second had Sixs 5-0 up at half time. Prince did better in the second half and
Brad Gray latched onto keeper James Roffey’s clearance to pull one back, before
Matt Waterhouse laid on a second for Luke Simmonds.
A
Brad Smith (left) hat-trick helped Nether Green into the last 16 with a
comfortable 7-0 victory over Norton. Louis Burgess and Tom Davis also scored
along with two own goals. It was the end of the road though for Boynton Sports
with a 3-1 defeat at Rossington and for Woodhouse Juniors who went out 4-1 at
Sporting Wadworth.
17 NOV -
CBC PREMIER -
Cotts run into
a Whit Wall -
Tom Whiting with five and Jon Wall with three saw Redmires defeat Cotts 8-3 in
the day's only CBC Premier game to go ahead. It means that Redmires are still
the only Premier side not to drop a point and they are level with three others
at the top of the table. After being 4-0 down early in the game, Cotts never
gave up and deservedly scored three through Jon Dolan, Ryan Lee and Harry Shaw.
17
NOV - DIVISION 1 -
Watson at the double to extend the View at the top and Danny's the
boy for Intake -
Cobden View extended their lead at the top of Division One as Luke Watson (left)
scored two second half goals in a 4-1 victory over second place Civil Sports.
Ben Bell flicked home to put Cobden ahead and the lead was doubled by a towering
header from Adam Beresford. That lead was halved by a Gary Eades penalty fifteen
minutes from time, but sub Watson made it a debut to remember with two goals to
clinch the victory for Cobden.
Danny
White (right) hit a hat-trick as Intake Old Boys won at Colley and jump six
places back into the top three. White hit a 25 yarder to give Intake the lead,
but Chris Fowler equalised for Colley on the stroke of half time. After the
break, White then hit a stunning free-kick to put Intake back in front only to
see it cancelled out by Ragen Dempsey. Dale Wood put Intake ahead for a third
time and this time White made it safe by completing his hat-trick.
17 NOV -
DIVISION 2 -
Doubles all round for leaders, whilst Sam's the man for Phoenix and
Beardsley treble for Darfield –
Sam Smith, James Hastings, George Barnes and Zach Burns all scored twice as New
Bohemians extended their lead at the top of Division Two to nine points with a
9-1 victory over Cadbury.
Matt
Beck hit Bohemian's other whilst Jacob Beech netted Cadbury’s consolation
in the second half.
Sam Firth netted twice as Brinsworth
Phoenix made sure Shakey's slump continued with a 5-1 victory over them. Dan
Commander put Phoenix ahead with a 35 yard piledriver and John Mellor added
their second after exchanging passes with Matt Winfrow. Firth got his two either
side of the interval, with Steve Dickinson netting for Shakey before Jack Hawkes
netted Phoenix’s fifth.
Jordan Beardsley hit a hat-trick as
Darfield United made it three wins out of four at Killamarsh Juniors expense.
Beardsley netted twice before Ryan Foster pulled one back for Killamarsh before
half time. There was no stopping Darfield after the break though and after
Beardsley had completed his hat-trick, Elliott Phelan, Kallum McDermott, Ethan
White and Reece Marshall with two completed their 8-1 victory.

NOV - SUNDAY SENIOR CUP
-
Pheasant make Redmires pay the penalty and Smith at the double for
Crookes-
Helped
by a Jordon Stocks double, Wadsley Bridge Pheasant needed extra time and a
penalty shoot-out to win at fellow CBC Premier side Redmires to go through to
Round 4. Two Tom Whiting strikes looked to put Redmires firmly in control, but a
Stocks free kick before half time put Pheasant back in the game. Another
terrific Stocks free kick sent the game into extra time, but a Danny Reet strike
looked to have won it for Redmires until a penalty was awarded for hand ball and
Adam Todd (left) swept home the penalty. Even the penalty shoot-out looked to be
going Redmires way when Pheasant missed their first two, but their keeper Joel
Statham then made the saves to send Pheasant through.
Also
through to Round 4 is Crookes after a Pete Smith double helped them to a
comfortable 4-0 win over Rotherham’s Workhouse Gym. A James Reed free kick put
Crookes ahead and the lead was doubled two minutes later with a Tom Staniland
strike. Smith added a third just after the break and the win was completed when
he headed Crookes’ fourth.
10 NOV -
CBC PREMIER -
Dickinson
treble too much for Earl, and Handsworth strike back –
CBC Premier leaders Royal Earl suffered their first defeat of the season as a
Lewis Dickinson hat-trick helped Stannington Village win a real thriller, 4-3.
Stannington took the lead when Shaun Flynn squared for Dickinson to hit his
first, but Earl levelled through Matt Ord before the break. A tremendous Steve
Brammer strike put Earl ahead after the break, but Dickinson levelled when he
beat two men before scoring from a narrow angle. Luke Proctor then set Danny
Smith up to put Stannington back in front, but an Alex Rippon strike then had
Earl level again. Stannington weren’t to be denied though, and a great cross by
Proctor saw Dickinson rise to head home the winner
The
bottom two at the start of the day met at Handsworth Pub and the home side came
from two down to beat Woodseats Club 3-2. The visitors looked certain to pick up
their first points of the season when Sam Read and Ben Southwell goals put them
two up, but a few harsh words and a change of formation at the interval helped
Handsworth back into the game. Russ Hobson (left) got the ball rolling by
curling one in from the edge of the area and more Handsworth pressure brought an
equaliser when Liam Greenfield fastened onto a through ball to produce a neat
finish. It looked certain to finish all square until Handsworth were awarded a
free kick 35 yards out and when Jamie Colliver whipped it into the box, it
seemed to elude everyone and finished up in the net for the winner.
10 NOV -
DIVISION 1 -
Civil win at Intake and Southey pip Oaks –
In Division One, doubles for James Brown and Brad Sedgwick gave Civil Sports a
four goal half-time lead at Intake Old Boys and despite two Wes Butler strikes
giving Intake hope in the second half, further goals from Gary Eades and Dylan
Fletcher gave Civil a 6-2 victory. It was Intake’s third successive defeat, but
for Civil it saw them climb four places into second.
The other Division One game played a
Ryan Damms strike saw Southey Social pip Norton Oaks in a seven goal thriller.
Early Southey pressure was rewarded when Jamie Roper put them ahead, but Mark
Turton took advantage of a bad back-pass to drag Oaks level. Turton then put
Oaks ahead when he was first to the rebound after Southey’s stand-in keeper Todd
Guest had saved his first attempt. Southey levelled after the break with a
Kieran Hopkinson penalty, but Oaks went back in front when Joe Lawson beat the
offside trap to score. Jack Peake then missed a golden opportunity to double
their lead when his penalty was saved by Guest and Southey took full advantage.
They levelled again when Carlton Carty finished off a great move before winning
it when another sweeping move ended with Ryan Damms hitting the winner.
10
NOV - DIVISION 2 -
Hastings treble keeps Bohemians top whilst Darfield win at Wadsley –
In Division Two, James Hastings (right) hit his second hat-trick in as many
weeks to help New Bohemians increase their lead at the top to six points with a
6-0 victory over Mosborough Reds. Dan Beck opened the scoring with a great
strike across the keeper before he then turned provider to give Sam Smith an
easy tap-in. Matt Beck then produced a wonder strike to make it 3-0 before
Hastings’ second half treble completed the scoring.
Darfield United secured their first
away win, 3-2 at Wadsley Jack Athletic. Ethan White put Darfield ahead and they
should have doubled it when they were awarded a penalty, but Jordan Beardsley
saw his spot kick saved by the Wadsley keeper. Wadsley’s Benji Woon made no such
mistake when they were awarded a penalty just before the break and the points
looked to be heading to Wadsley when Reece James gave them the lead, but with
five minutes remaining Sam Ackroyd equalised for Darfield. Worse was to come for
the home side when Kallum McDermott was brought down in the box and this time
Sean Bunyan took responsibility to give Darfield that first win on their
travels.

NOV - LEAGUE TWENTYTWO CUP
-
Crookes smash Cotts, and Eckington at home on the Ranch -
In the
League Twentytwo Cup,
Liam Cartledge (left) with four and
Pete Smith with three helped Crookes brush aside fellow CBC Premier side Cotts
12-1 and advance into the last eight for a third season running. Remarkably, it
was Cotts that scored first through Jon Dolan, but after James Knowles levelled
ten minutes later, there was no stopping the home side. Pete Smith put them
ahead and that was quickly followed by Joel Purkiss and Tom Staniland strikes.
Smith added two more before half time to complete his hat-trick as Cotts
disintegrated. After the break, Staniland netted his second, before Cartledge
scored four in twelve minutes. Just to rub further salt into Cotts wounds, the
final goal was an own goal.
The
only giantkilling was Division Two Eckington's 3-0 victory over Division One
Ranch. The game started at a great pace and it was Ranch that had the upper
hand, but it was Eckington that grabbed the lead just before half time when Luke
Sanderson’s goal kick found Ben Beever (right) and he finished well into the far
corner. Ranch continued to push their hosts back, but were again caught on the
break as Liam Foulstone produced a terrific individual goal. Eckington sealed
their place in the last eight when a long throw from Tom Onions was met by a
great header from Alister Haydock
A Danny
Rogers double helped Norton Sportsman to a 3-0 victory at fellow CBC Premier
Woodseats Club. There was nothing between the two sides until two Rogers goals
in five minutes just before half time put Norton in charge. The first came when
Rogers latched onto a Chris Lewis pass before lobbing the advancing keeper and
the second came when a terrific Antony Holmes cross was stabbed home by Rogers.
Sportsman’s place in the last eight was clinched on the hour when a Sonny Wilson
cross was firmly headed home by Josh Gibson.
The
other all-CBC Premier tie saw a Jon Wall double and goals from Conal Jacklin,
Tom Whiting and Stephan Parry give Redmires a 5-2 victory over Handsworth Pub.
Handsworth went into the game with little form and their task was soon made
harder when Thompson was dismissed for stopping a goal scoring opportunity. Just
to make matters worse, Redmires took the lead from the free kick as a deflection
off the wall saw the ball loop over keeper Tom Crosby. Redmires doubled their
lead just before half time and added three more after the break. Handsworth’s
ten men never gave up though and scored two deserved consolations through Lou
Jackson and Russ Hobson.
Another
CBC Premier side through to the last eight is Wickersley Youth after their 3-1
victory at Division One Colley. Wickersley took the lead when Matt Godley’s
corner was head down by Andy Rawling for Danny Malone to score. They doubled
their lead five minutes later when Adam Daughtrey found space in the box to
score and their place in the last eight was a good as confirmed when Jamie-Lee
Fawcett (left) met another Godley cross to score Wickersley’s third. Colley
pressed hard in the second half and, after missing several good chances and
hitting the bar, their good football was rewarded when James Malone scored near
the end.
James
Dimelow and Joe Moorhouse both scored two in Chapeltown RBL's 5-2 victory over
fellow Division One Norton Oaks. It took Chapeltown just 70 seconds to get their
noses in front when Moorhouse and Tom Wright combined to create the opening for
Dimelow’s first. Cal Tuxford missed a chance to extend the lead, but a second
soon came when a speculative Lewis Fletcher shot deceived the keeper and nestled
in the bottom corner. Elliott Rogan then fired over after a Moorhouse header had
come back off a post, but Moorhouse did get his goal when he raced onto a
Mitchell Simnett through ball before rounding the keeper to score. Oaks looked
more determined to make a game of it after the break and Lewis Trevett pulled
one back, but Tuxford and Rogan then combined to set Dimelow free to net his
second. Oaks hit back through Conor Rogers, but Chapeltown had the final say
when Morgan Cowell’s through ball was finished off by Moorhouse to seal their
place in the last eight.
In
their delayed Round Two tie, a Ross Thompson (right) double helped Boynton
Sports to a narrow 2-1 victory at fellow Division One Civil Sports. A long
clearance by Curtis Priday was turned into an assist as Thompson outmuscled his
marker before finding the bottom left corner of the net. The lead didn’t last
long though as Dylan Fletcher met a corner to equalise. Skipper Simon Marsden
almost regained the lead for Boynton with a header at the start of the second
half and after a string of substitutions their winner came when Marcus Gordon
beat his marker before crossing for Thompson to flick into the bottom corner.
The other outstanding Round 2 tie between Killamarsh Juniors and Southey Social
was again postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
3 NOV -
CBC PREMIER -
Pheasant put
Oughtibridge in the Stocks -
The only CBC Premier
game saw Jordan Stocks’ only goal of the game gave Wadsley Bridge Pheasant all
three points against an unlucky Oughtibridge WM. Pheasant missed two great
chances in the first half, but it was Oughtibridge that had the better chances
in the second half until Stocks curled a spectacular shot into the top corner
for the winner.
3
NOV - DIVISION 1 -
Ben rings the Bell for Cobden - The
only Division One game’s highlight was a Ben Bell (left) hat-trick as
leaders Cobden View gained a 5-0 win over Intake Old Boys. All that separated
the teams at the interval was an Aaron Ellis headed goal, but just after the
break a defensive error allowed Bell through to lob the keeper and it seemed to
knock the stuffing out of Intake. Bell went on to complete his hat-trick before
a calamitous own goal summed up Intake’s day.
3 NOV -
DIVISION 2 -
Hastings treble keeps Bohemians top and Prince win at last -
In Division Two, James Hastings hit a hat-trick as New Bohemians stayed top with
an 8-4 victory at Darfield United. Dan Beck and Sam Smith gave Bohemians a two
goal half time lead, but Connor Wilks and Elliott Phelan strikes levelled for
the home side in the second half. That was as good as it got for Darfield though
as goals from the leaders came thick and fast and as well as Hastings’ treble,
Beck got another along with Jono Cooper and Jack Brownell. Darfield managed to
score the last two through Kieran Eyre and Phelan.
Keeping pace with them though is
Nether Green after a Harry Pollard double helped them to a 5-2 victory at
Brinsworth Phoenix. Price Humphries and Smith netted Green’s others, whilst Joe
Stratham and Dan Commander replied for Phoenix.
Ethan Wilkinson also hit two as
Wadsley Jack Athletic went fourth with a 4-3 victory at Mosborough Reds. Reds
scored first when a Scott Williams shot was fumbled by the keeper and Jake
Leonard swooped to score and their lead was doubled when an Alix Sorsby cross
was turned into his own net by a defender. Wadsley pulled one back when Benji
Woon netted in a goalmouth scramble and they levelled when Joe Hall powerfully
headed home. Soon after the break, Reds went back in front when they were
awarded a penalty and Oliver Tupling gave the keeper no chance. Wilkinson headed
Wadsley level again and he scored the winner when they were awarded a penalty.
Prince of Wales gained their first win
of the season, 4-0 at Beighton Magpies. A Charlie Hawkins free kick was crossed
into the box by Luke Simmonds and Dan Nielson headed home to put Prince in front
and that was followed by a Charles Hawkins thunderbolt to double their lead.
Their third came when Liam Jacobi’s cross was met with a glancing header from
Bradley Gray and they completed the scoring Simmonds burst through before
setting up Ivan Adrian to score. After conceding 19 goals in their previous four
games, it was Prince’s first clean sheet for two years and only their second
ever away from home since joining the League in 2014. It also extended assistant
manager Ben Raynes’ unbeaten run in temporary charge of the team to three games.
