Pheasant
and Stannington both held, but Redmires win -
We
head towards March with Wadsley Bridge Pheasant still holding sway at the
top of the CBC Premier Division, but it’s only just. Pheasant had to work
hard in their away game at Norton Sportsman and will be content as they
came from behind to share the spoils in a 1-1 draw with their hosts.
Sportsman took the lead when Sonny Wilson produced a superb cross and top
scorer Brad Bowland (left) headed home. Bowland could have doubled the
lead but shot over when well placed. Pheasant increased their intensity in
the second half and equalised when Dylan Parrott hit home a long range
screamer. Both sides tried for a winner but a draw was the winner in the
end.
Pheasant’s
lead is just one point after Redmires saw off Renishaw Rangers 6-2 in a
game that hinged on a decision. Renishaw’s top scorer Robin Holmes gave
them the lead but a Jon Wall (right) free-kick levelled matters but then
came the game changer. Renishaw’s Levi Richmond saw red for two yellow
cards and the home side capitalised with another strike from Wall, a Tom
Whiting brace and one apiece from Jake Schofield and Danny Reet. Renishaw
did have the last say in the game when left back Ryan Hancock smashed one
in from distance; arrowing the ball into the top corner.
Still in touch, and with a game in hand on the top two, are Stannington
Village but they had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Oughtibridge WM. It was
a tight and close contest as the scoreline suggests. The deadlock was
broken with twenty minutes left when Lewis Dickinson picked up the ball on
the edge of the penalty area and crashed home an unstoppable effort into
net. The Oughtibridge equaliser came about when a corner wasn’t dealt with
by the visiting defence and Chas Tunnard made no mistake. A draw was a
fair result but Oughtibridge were warmed by a man of the match performance
from Kurtis Turner who was making his debut after spending eight weeks
injured.
Chapeltown
RBL’s relegation from the top flight was confirmed after a 6-0 home loss
to Woodseats Club. Matt White and Liam Bryan gave Club the lead against
their valiant hosts, who never gave up in the game, and further strikes
from Leesley, Banks, Darlow plus an own goal made up the tally. In the
final CBC Premier Division game of the day, Handsworth Old Crown gave
their relegation battle a good shot in the arm and moved out of the bottom
three with a 3-2 home success against Wickersley. Liam Greenfield scored
twice and Tom Crosby (left) stepped up from his goalkeeping position to
smash home a penalty in shades of Jose Luis Chilavert to get them the win
whilst Drew Houghton and Ben Thornton netted for the defeated visitors.

FEB - DIVISION 1 -
Forum back on track to send Cotts out of the top three -
In
Division One’s game of the day, Forum took a massive step towards top
flight promotion with a 3-1 win over Cotts: a result that sent the
visitors tumbling out of the automatic promotion slots. Matty Ord and
Antony Holmes sandwiched a Michael Blythen effort with both sides keen to
get one over on the other. The game was secured for Forum in the final
minute when Cotts gambled on a late corner which broke down and Callum
Mawbey fired home in the clinching strike on the counter attack.
Royal
Earl moved into second place when they overcame a Southey Social side,
minus their top scorers Ryan Damms and John Mellor, 4-2. Steve Brammer
opened the scoring for Earl and Alex Rippon’s (right) first of the morning
doubled the lead before emergency forward Scott Ellis reduced the arrears.
Olly Beaumont restored the two goal margin, and Southey’s goalkeeper
Callum Jones kept his side in it before Rippon made it four. Harry Davison
pulled a second goal back for Southey but Earl managed to see it home.
Crookes
are third after a crushing 8-0 win at Norton Oaks A who now appear to be
relegation bother. Liam Cartledge notched a hat-trick for the rampant
visitors who also found the net thanks to a Peter Smith brace and
additional efforts from Chris Tunstall, Phil Parkin and an own goal. The
other Oaks side picked up a valuable point from their trip to Ranch after
a 2-2 draw, Alex Cowlishaw and Alex Mosley netted for Ranch whilst Will
Carlisle and Jeremiah Donnelly were on target for Oaks B.
The threat of relegation had lingered over Civil Sports A too but their
hopes took a massive boost with a superb 3-1 home win over the ever
improved Cobden View, Player-Manager Gary Eades opened the scoring with a
half volley which trickled home in slow motion and Thomas Bamford then
doubled the lead. Adam Beresford pulled one back for Cobden but Civil
secured the win when Stacy Sharif netted on his first appearance of the
season.

FEB - DIVISION 2 -
Boynton beat leaders Sixs as Whites go top -
We
have new leaders in Division Two in the shape of Mosborough Whites after
they inflicted a comprehensive 12-0 defeat over bottom placed Civil Sports
B. Luke Walker (right) led the scorecharts with four whilst Chris Howard
bagged a treble of his own. Further goals came from Jack Bennett, Julian
Lawrence, Lewis Bennett, Danny Howson and Kane Fowler whilst Whites keeper
Curtis Congreve skied a penalty in the last minute. Whites are top because
previous leaders Sheffield Sixs slipped to a 3-1 home loss to fellow
promotion challengers Boynton Sports who were fired to glory by a Jake
Ballinger double and one from Ricardo Stewart whilst Matt Coyle drilled
home Sixs’ only goal from the edge of the area with the home side 2-0 down
at the time.
Free
scoring Colley lived up that description as they rode away from Wadsley
Horse and Jockey with a 8-3 away win. Danny Parker (left) helped himself
to a hat trick for the visitors whilst Billy Thorley and Ragen Dempsey
added doubles of their own with Kieron Goff completing the rout against
Jockey who responded through a Lewis Smith brace and one from George
Scott. Meanwhile Woodhouse Juniors remain on the outskirts of the
promotion battle as Joe Bland’s sole strike settled their tense encounter
with Beighton Magpies.
Woodseats Chantrey picked up three points in the final game of the day as
they edged past the visiting Brinsworth Phoenix by the odd goal in five. A
neat flick from Spencer Russell set up Luke Simmonds for the game’s
opening goal but Phoenix responded to lead through Nathan Darwent’s header
and an spectacular overhead kick from Daniel Commander. It stayed that way
until the final ten minutes when Chantrey grabbed two late goals.
Substitute Kyle Thomson was the architect of it all, first of all playing
a through ball for Simmonds to score his and Chantrey’s second before
crossing for Charlie Hawkins who provided a cool finish for the match
winning goal. |
17 FEB - Fixtures and Referees for MARCH 2019 now added - The fixtures and Referees for MARCH 2019 are now published on the League website. All home teams MUST make sure that their home pitch is available on all the dates shown. Please email Keith immediately if your pitch is not available on a date shown. All home clubs must also confirm the details with your referees and opponents for all dates shown IMMEDIATELY. The home clubs should later (the Tuesday before the game) ring the referee to make sure the referee has got all the details. 17 FEB 2019 - R.I.P. Garry Wright - The League was very saddened to hear about the loss of the former player, manager and coach, Garry Wright after he finally lost his battle against cancer. Garry had played for Stannington Community in two League Cup Finals, scoring 5 times, before netting the winner for Bass Stones in their 1994 League Cup Final victory over Westfield at Bramall Lane. He managed Telecom Sports to promotion to the Premier Division for the first time, but latterley helped with the coaching at Stannington Village. His enthusiasm was infectous and even though he wanted to win every game, he always wanted his teams to do so playing good football. He will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.

Pheasant
shot down by Stannington, whilst Woodseats win to send Chapeltown down -
CBC Premier Division leaders Wadsley Bridge Pheasant could have gone six
points clear had they won at Stannington Village, however the hosts
breathed new life into their title aspirations with a 3-2 success.
Pheasant opened the scoring thanks to another superb free-kick from the
talismanic Jordan Livett but Stannington were level when Lewis Dickinson
collected a Joe Barker long throw to spin and smash an unstoppable effort
into the roof of the net. Two goals in the second half swung the pendulum
Village’s way; the first coming when Dean Jepson (right) got his head onto
an inch perfect Lee Johnstone cross and then Arnie Grayson taking
advantage of some hesitation by Pheasant to head number three. Aaron
Statham reduced the arrears to one goal with ten minutes to go but despite
increased pressure, Pheasant couldn’t get back on terms.
Oughtibridge
WM could have closed in on the top three had they won at Woodseats Club
but they were left empty handed as Club won by the odd goal in five. Matt
White gave Club the lead after just five minutes but an excellent effort
from Chas Tunnard and a superb solo effort by Wilson Coupe had David
Hudson’s men ahead by the half hour mark. Liam Bryan (left) got Club back
on level terms as half time approached and then the same player produced a
moment of magic to win the game for Club in the second half.
Two early goals proved to be more than enough for Wickersley as they
inflicted another loss on Intake Old Boys. Great work from Brad Carroll
saw him set up Jordan Thomas for an easy tap in to open the scoring, and
then Kris Lee-Green made it two with a superb solo effort. Wickersley
could have been out of sight by half time had Drew Houghton and Thomas not
missed one on one situations but held sway when called upon defensively in
a scrappy second half for three crucial points.
Renishaw
Rangers still harbour faint hopes that they can avoid the drop, and those
hopes took an improvement when they dished out a 6-0 defeat to a
Handsworth Old Crown side still only just outside the relegation spots.
James Savage (right) lived up to his surname as he savaged the visitors
with a four goal haul whilst top scorer Robin Holmes added another from
distance. Joe Glover celebrated his return to the side after a three month
absence when he netted following brilliant link up play with Connor
Shirley. Handsworth were never at the races and had to thank Tom Crosby’s
efforts in goal to prevent Renishaw running up double figures.

FEB - DIVISION 1 -
Forum falls to Crookes, but Cotts and Earl make no mistake -
The big game in Division One saw Crookes take the honours with a 3-2
success over leaders Forum, just the visitors third loss in seventeen
league games. Daniel Flynn (left) scored twice and a Matt Cowen penalty
made up Crookes’ tally with Matty Ord and Josh Gibson responding for
Forum. That loss for Forum enabled Cotts to reduce the gap to single
figures as they overcame Southey Social 3-0 at Concord. Harry Shaw netted
the first after quarter of an hour with a good finish from the outside of
his foot, and Jon Dolan grabbed the others after coming on as a
substitute; his first a well taken solo effort when he chased down the
Southey keeper before dispossessing him and netting from twenty yards out
and then getting the important touch on a driven cross for the clincher.
Royal Earl have four games in hand on Forum and took three more important
points as they rounded up Ranch 3-0. Sam Smith was on target for the
opener before a fluke effort from Jono Williams, netted from inside his
own half; doubled the advantage. Earl then had to thank their goalkeeper
Callum Fielding for a couple of important saves as Ranch pressed but
secured their win in the dying embers of the game thanks to substitute
Alex Rippon.
The
two Oaks side suffered differing fortunes in their games. Cobden View
issued a seriously understrength Oaks A a bit of hammering as they
recorded a 9-0 success with Ben Bell (right) going goal crazy as he
notched six of them. Calum McCrury, Sam Porter and Joe Taylor also were on
the scoresheet as Cobden remain in fifth place. Oaks B had a productive
morning though as they defeated Mosborough Reds 6-2, a result that
confirms Reds’ relegation. Reds led twice through their captain Luke
Newman and a Scott Williams header but they were undone by a brace from
Nathan Davies and additional goals by Jack Peake, Chris Briddon, Conor
Rogers and an own goal.

FEB - DIVISION 2 -
Sixs gain revenge over Colley as the top three pull clear -
After suffering a surprise loss last week to Colley, and their lead at the
top of Division Two, Sheffield Sixs enacted the best response back by
defeating the same opponents. A volley from Brad Howe put them ahead after
half an hour, and then Howe’s second of the game plus one from one from
Danny Barnsley gave them a 3-0 away win. Mosborough Whites stay level on
points with Sixs after a hard fought game with a Cadbury side seriously
understrength and featuring manager Dan Robertson at right-back in his
first eleven-a-side game for a number of seasons. Jack Bennett and Jordan
Meadows put them ahead and they took the points despite Jacob Beech
pulling one back in second half added time.
Boynton
Sports remain in contention with a comprehensive 9-0 win over bottom
placed Civil Sports B. Marcus Gordon and Marc Peacock both scored twice
whilst John Heritage, Danny Lonsdale, Jermaine Modeste, Curtis Priday and
Ben Jordan also found the back of Civil’s net. Another player hitting the
goal trail was Beighton Magpies’ Dale Featherstone (left) as he bagged a
hat-trick, one from the penalty spot, as the home side rode away from
Wadsley Horse and Jockey 4-2. Lewis Hunt added Magpies fourth; with George
Scott and Kurtis Westerman netting for the visitors.
Woodseats Chantrey took a lead midway through the second half of an
uneventful game against hosts Brinsworth Phoenix. The goal came when Brad
Gray produced a through ball executed to perfection and Luke Simmonds
slotted it past the Phoenix custodian. However, Phoenix grabbed three
welcomed points in the final five minutes thanks to Joe Statham. Statham
equalising with an absolute screamer and then taking advantage of slack
Chantrey defending to head home in the final minute. |

Intake
hold up champs, but Pheasant and Redmires make no mistake -
Stannington Village’s hopes of retaining the title took another bump in
the road despite producing an incredible comeback to share the points and
eight goals with hosts Intake Old Boys. The Old Boys had a superb start to
the game with four goals in the first fifteen minutes with Harry
Chamberlain (right) twice, Elliot Coles and Mark West all on target:
Chamberlain’s first being a superb effort from fully fifty yards as he
netted from the centre circle. However two Lewis Dickinson penalties
halved the deficit by half time and gave Village hope. Shaun Flynn reduced
the gap to one goal when he tapped home from close range and then the
visitors levelled matters on the day when a quick break down the left was
turned into his own net by an Intake defender.
Leaders
Wadsley Bridge Pheasant had star midfielder Jordan Livett (left) to thank
as he scored both their goals in a 2-1 success at Oughtibridge WM. Livett
opened the scoring when he converted a superb free kick from the edge of
the area after he had been brought down in full flight, and then added a
second from the penalty spot after once more teasing the home defence Dan
Broomhead pulled one back for the home side and despite putting on the
pressure, Pheasant held on to remain three points clear.
Staying in touch and chasing them down are Redmires as they recorded an
all-important away win of their own at a Norton Sportsman side on the
fringes of the top
three.
Tom Whiting (right) added another hat-trick to his collection whilst Andy
Bath and Jake Gamban also were on target for Dave Knaggs’ team who had
Jonathan Wall at his creative best. Sportsman’s sole response came from
former Renishaw Rangers striker Montelle Kamara who netted from distance.
Wickersley’s relegation fight took a good turn when they clinically
dispatched bottom placed Chapeltown RBL 7-0 away from home. Adam
Daughtrey, Jordan Thomas and Brad Carroll all helped themselves to
doubles, whilst Kris Lee-Green added the other for a comprehensive win and
leave Legion a long way from the safety margin.
In
the final CBC Premier game of the day, Handsworth Old Crown also did
themselves a good turn as they deepened Renishaw Rangers relegation fears
with a 5-2 home win. Renishaw started well and led 2-0 thanks to strikes
from captain Lee Walker and top scorer Robin Holmes who scored with an
unstoppable effort from distance. Tom Crosby (left) started the comeback
and that was the catalyst as Handsworth added more goals from Russell
Hobson, Kieran Gallagher, Ben Shackshaft and Liam Greenfield.

FEB - DIVISION 1 -
Top four all win as promotion race hots up -
Leaders Forum’s Division One title charge continued unabated as two Matty
Ord
strikes
proved to be enough to see off visitors Civil Sports A 2-0, a result which
deepens the away side’s relegation fears and leave them facing the
possibility of a second successive divisional drop. Cotts remain second
after seeing off Cobden View 3-1 thanks to Theo Wilson (right) hitting a
brace and Luke Kingswood who clinched the win with a goal in the last ten
minutes after Ben Bell had put Cobden within one goal.
Royal Earl enhanced their own promotion bid with a comprehensive 12-1 win
over basement side Mosborough Reds who look certain to be back in Division
One next season. Tom Nolan headed the scoring with five individual strikes
whilst Olly Beaumont and Billy Wright both added doubles. Richard Tootle,
Tom Furniss and Spencer Goff also found the back of the Reds’ net with
Reds sole consolation coming from Josh Smith who netted his own rebound
after the Earl keeper had saved his initial effort from the penalty spot.
Crookes stayed in touch too after rounding up Ranch 8-0 with Matt Cowen
scoring a hat-trick, two from Joel Purkiss and a goal apiece from Mike
Murphy, Andy Parkin and Max Pemberton.

FEB - DIVISION 2 -
Colley put the skids under leaders Sixs, allowing both Whites and
Boyton to close the gap -
Sheffield Sixs suffered just their second league defeat of the season as
Colley improved their own promotion hopes with a 2-1 away win. Liam Davies
gave Sixs an early lead from twelve yards when he converted from the
penalty spot but Colley were back on parity when Danny Parker (left)
chipped the Sixs keeper from twenty yards. Both teams pushed for a winner
and it was the visitors who grabbed it with twenty minutes to go when
Kieran Goff rocketed one into the top corner from distance.
Level on points with Sixs now are Mosborough Whites after they won an
entertaining game against Woodhouse Juniors; 6-4. Luke Walker bagged a
couple for Whites whilst Jack Waddle, Kingsley Lewin, Julian Lawrence and
an own goal made up the home side’s tally with a Harry Broadbent double,
Chris Radford and an own goal tallying for Woodhouse.
In
a game switched because of a strong wind blowing the roof off the school,
Boynton’s own promotion charge continued with a 6-2 win over Beighton
Magpies. Top scorer Jake Ballinger (right) netted another three to his
burgeoning goal tally whilst former Stannington Village defender Marc
Peacock weighed in with two of his own and Curtis Priday made it six. A
youthful Magpies side gave it their all and were rewarded with goals from
Lee Hackett and Dale Featherstone.
Wadsley Horse & Jockey got past the winning post first in their match at
Civil Sports B with their 3-1 success still leaving Civil without a win
this season. Sam Civil, Lewis Smith and Joe Hall found the net with Ryan
Haywood netting Civil’s sole effort at Green Lane. Meanwhile, Woodseats
Chantrey took the points in the last game of the day with a 2-1 away
triumph at Shakey thanks to Luke Simmonds and a late clincher from Luke
Glaves, Brad Leeming pulled one back for Shakey in the final throes but
Chantrey managed to get over the line for a crucial three points. |

All CBC
Premier games postponed -
The CBC Premier
suffered a complete white out as every fixture was postponed. One game did
actually start, that being Redmires’ home encounter with Intake Old Boys.
However, the game only made it to the twenty minute mark before
proceedings were brought to a halt by referee Tony Clubb with the teams
scoreless.

FEB - DIVISION 1 -
Earl into the top three and Cobden consolidate 5th place -
Just two
games were completed in the middle division, and Royal Earl move up to
third with a 2-0 success at Southey Social. Both goals came in the second
half after a very even first half. Mike Towey (left) broke the deadlock
with a fine individual effort, and after both teams had chances to score,
Earl secured the win with a Conor Chapell free-kick five minutes from
time. The sides were appreciative of match official Paul Cooper who they
concurred: had an excellent game.
The other Division One game to beat the weather saw a home win for Cobden
View as they overcame bottom placed Mosborough Reds 4-0; and keeps them on
the fringes of the promotion race. Cobden were always comfortable and two
goals in the final seven minutes of the first half from Callum McCrury and
Sam Porter gave them an advantage they would not relinquish. Two further
strikes either side of the hour mark, clinched the win, with Ralph
Clarkson and McCrury’s second of the morning hitting the back of net. 3 FEB - DIVISION 2 - Lawrence and Walker trebles see Whites close up on leaders -. Only one match survived in Division Two and Mosborough Whites reduced the inactive Sheffield Sixs’ lead at the top to just three points with a 9-2 home success over visiting Wadsley Horse and Jockey. Julian Lawrence and Luke Walker both scored hat-tricks whilst a brace from Callum Congreave and one from Lewis Russell ensured a good day at the office for the Whites, Jockey’s replies came from their top scorer Reece James. 2 FEB - League Twentytwo Cup Semi-Final draw - The draw for the semi-finals of the Blades Super Draw League Twentytwo Cup was made at Bramall Lane today by The Sheffield Star's Blades reporter James Shields (right) and well known journalist Alan Biggs (left) and it saw last seasons beaten finilists and only CBC Premier side remaining, Handsworth Old Crown, drawn out against Division One leaders Forum.
