30 SEP - CBC PREMIER - Brown double helps 'Bridge to the top - We have new leaders in the CBC Premier Division, and that honour now goes to David Hudson’s Oughtibridge WM who ascended to the summit thanks to a superb 4-1 away triumph at Chapeltown RBL. It was a great performance by Oughtibridge who drew first blood in this contest when Ross Brown (left) scored following a well executed counter attack. The lead was doubled five minutes into the second half when full-back Tom Galla headed in his first goal for the club; getting on the end of a Chas Tunnard cross. Danny Booth added number three with a superb solo effort before Brown’s second of the morning extended it to four. Chapeltown did manage a consolation when Niall Smith set up youngster Ben Wright but it was not to be their day as they also missed a penalty when Gary Bacon struck the crossbar with his effort from twelve yards.

Oughtibridge go top because last weekend’s leaders Woodseats Club could only draw 1-1 apiece with bottom placed Intake Old Boys. Club took the lead after twenty minutes when a cross into the penalty area wasn’t cleared by Intake and Matt Darlow hammered the loose ball into the net. Despite playing with only ten men all game, Intake competed superbly and drew level with quarter of an hour left when Darren Robinson fired the ball home after the home custodian failed to claim a corner. They could have come away with a deserved win too but Club had to thank their goalkeeper as he made a few important saves despite the misjudgement which had led to the goal. Action, including the goals, from the game is below - pictures by Mick Moat.

Norton Sportsman also could have gone top of the CBC Premier but they slipped to a 2-1 away loss at Tapton School to hosts Redmires. It started off well though for Norton as they took the lead after just ten minutes when Chris Winters got his head to a Sonny Wilson corner kick. Just before half time Redmires were level thanks to an Andy Bath effort. The winner came into the second half with the ever prolific Tom Whiting on target and despite Norton’s best endeavours, Redmires took the points.

Wadsley Bridge Pheasant could have had a difficult game when they made the long trip to Renishaw Rangers but it proved to be a trip worth making as they recorded a 3-1 win there. After having a penalty appeal turned down, Pheasant took the lead when Lewis Fothergill crossed and Jordan Livett smashed the ball into the roof of the Renishaw net. Chances went begging for the visitors and it took an Adam Askwith side foot finish to double the lead just as Renishaw looked to get back into the game. Andy Dawson then played Fothergill to chip the home keeper for number three before Renishaw got themselves a consolation when Sam Finlaw’s mazy run was rewarded with a fine goal. Harry Rodosthenous also hit the post for Rangers.

In the final CBC Premier game, current champions Stannington Village had lost their last two games going into their home clash with Wickersley. However, the run was stopped as Village went nap with a 5-0 home win. They opened the scoring when Alex Torr provided a corner and Lee Johnstone headed it in from six yards out. That was doubled when Danny Abdulla’s set piece found Bill Green who scored at the second attempt after seeing his initial header saved by the visiting keeper. Just before the interval, Stannington added a third when Torr found Lewis Dickinson who finished with aplomb. Dickinson had a hand in number four, setting up Green to head in his second of the game and a good all round performance by the home side was completed with a fifth when a corner was headed out as far as Ben Cook who produced a stunning hooked volley into the far corner of the Wickersley net.

30 SEP - DIVISION 1 - Forum keep their lead as top three all win -  It’s five wins out of five for Division One leaders Forum as they overcame a potential awkward game at Ranch with a 2-0 success. A classic counter attack saw the deadlock broken after a goalless first half when Antony Holmes found the net. The points were secured with ten minutes to go when Matty Ord scored Forum’s second and keep Jamie Smith’s team perfect. Fellow promoted side Royal Earl stay second with a superb 5-1 away win at Civil Sports A. Earl controlled the game and were three goals to the good early on with Olly Beaumont, Jake Longley and player-manager Matt Parks all on target. Evan Cameron pulled one back for Civil but that was their only bright spot as the visitors added two more in the second half through Billy Wright and Tom Nolan.

Staying in touch are Cotts FC as they recorded a 5-0 home win over a Norton Oaks B side still looking for their first league win of the season. Michael Blythen scored a diving header and a penalty kick for the home side whilst there were further strikes from John Dolan, Sam Stacey and a second successful penalty kick; this time converted by Theo Wilson. Southey Social’s hopes took a bit of a nosedive as they suffered a 2-0 home loss to a Norton Oaks A side now unbeaten in three games in all competitions. Goals from Martin Lee midway through the second half and John Rossiter five minutes from the end did the trick for Oaks.

Crookes FC’s season moved in the right direction again with a 5-2 win at Cobden View in Division One’s fifth and final encounter of the day. Daniel Flynn’s strike was the sole goal in an even first half before Chris Tunstall doubled it in the second half. A superb curling effort from Ben Bell halved the deficit for the battling Cobden yet Paul Wood added a third for Crookes before Bell’s header, a rarity in itself, made it a one goal game again. However Crookes kicked on once more and secured the win thanks to further strikes by Peter Smith and Max Pemberton.

30 SEP - DIVISION 2 - James bags four to help get Jockey off the mark, while top three all win - Five games in Division Two completed the schedule, and Boynton Sports still lead the way there after a 5-2 success at Colley which keeps them with a one hundred percent record. Colley could have taken the lead after ten minutes but missed the penalty they were awarded and paid the ultimate price as the visitors went down the other end of the pitch immediately with Jake Ballinger on target. It certainly inspired Boynton as they doubled the lead when Enos Huly deflected a strike from team-mate Marcus Gordon into the home goal. Faisal Miladi’s header reduced the margin but the two goal advantage was restored five minutes from half time when Gordon set up Josh Jones for the latter’s first of the season. Number four came early in the second half Ballinger set up Curtis Priday who dinked it home, and after wasting lots of chances Boynton added a fifth in the closing stages thanks to teenage substitute Ben Talbot. Chris Fowler added a consolation second almost immediately with a well timed chip but it was the leaders day.

Also with three wins out of three are league newcomers Sheffield Sixes as they defeated hosts Woodhouse Juniors 2-1. Woodhouse keeper Lee Williams saved a Sixes spot kick which acted as impetus to his side as Leon Cheslett’s strike gave them a half time lead. Bradley Nicholson however levelled straight after the break and then with quarter of an hour left, Danny Barnsley netted the winner. In the battle of the two other unbeaten records, Mosborough Whites kept theirs as they won 4-1 at Woodseats Chantrey. Luke Walker opened the scoring midway for Whites after twenty-five minutes but Jordan Sambrook levelled matters. A costly mistake by Rhys Oakes gifted Levi Williamson and Whites their second of the game before Walker’s second of the match made it 3-1 with a well taken left foot finish. The all important fourth came when Walker’s effort tested the Chantrey keeper but Whites talisman Morgan Foy nodded home the rebound.

After losing their unbeaten record last week, Cadbury got sweet again with a 2-1 home win over visitors Civil Sports B. Alex Cowlishaw gave the visitors the lead but a depleted Cadbury line up equalised five minutes before the interval thanks to Josh Grant. A superb performance by the non-first choice home line up saw them create lots of chances in the second half with Tom Wilson being the hero when he netted the game winner. Yet another depleted side didn’t fare too well in the shape of Brinsworth Phoenix as visitors Wadsley Horse and Jockey ran up a comprehensive 11-0 win. Reece James led the scoring with four and Niall Wilkinson chipped in with a hat-trick. George Scott added a brace himself whilst Lewis Smith and Elliott Willis completed the rout.

23 SEP - CBC PREMIER - Woodseats too hard for Champs, while two new boys leap into top three - There’s a new leader in the CBC Premier Division as Woodseats Club inflicted a surprise loss on Stannington Village, Village’s second successive loss. Club, who struggled in their inaugural CBC Premier season, took the lead with a quarter of an hour played when Lewis Whittaker found the net via a Stannington deflection. They held onto the lead until midway through the second half when Charlie Hobson’s free kick was flicked on by Bill Green and Lee Johnstone was on hand to stab the ball home. Village then had the momentum but couldn’t find a second, and then with a minute to go Woodseats took the points home with a classic counter. Nick Owen crossed, and strike partner Liam Bryan was on hand to fire home and spark huge celebrations from the away team.

With leaders on the morning Wadsley Bridge Pheasant not playing, then second placed Handsworth Old Crown could have gone top of the CBC Premier if they had won at Oughtibridge WM. However, inspired by the return on the sideline of manager David Hudson who was back from holiday, Oughtibridge recorded a superb 5-2 home win. Despite the number of chances created in the first half, Oughtibridge only led by a single goal at the interval when Matt Harrison netted from Chas Tunnard pull back. Liam Greenfield levelled matters but within minutes Oughtibridge regained the lead when Wilson Coupe was brought down in the area and Tunnard made no mistake from the spot and then Tunnard notched his second and Oughtibridge’s third with a great run and calm finish from outside the area. Strachan Sampson headed home the fourth, an own goal reduced it back to 4-2 but the home side had the final say when a flowing move saw Harley Scholar netted the fifth and decisive goal.

There were goals galore at the Herringthorpe Stadium as Wickersley and Redmires shared six goals and a share of the spoils. Ainsley Finney scored his fifth goal in the last two matches to give Lewis Carder’s team the lead but Tom Whiting’s first of the game drew Redmires level on the stroke of half time. Wickersley regained the lead when Jordan Radford headed in from an Adam Daughtrey cross and then extended it when Daughtrey again turned provider and this time it was Ben Thornton who netted. Whiting’s second pulled Redmires back within one and then Jake Schofield brought Dave Knaggs’ side level with a corner that went straight in. Both sides pushed for a winner but a draw was the final outcome despite the home team being denied a late winner when Cory Goodwin’s effort was ruled offside after Thornton had hit the bar with a free kick.

Norton Sportsman got the better of the two promoted sides when they defeated Chapeltown RBL 3-1. A tight first half ended goalless but Legion took the lead when veteran Adam Todd scored a typical poacher’s effort after some superb play down by the left involving Jed Phillips, Brad Beatson and Niall Smith. Norton kicked on after going behind and equalised on the half hour, Harry Mitchell tapping home a Sonny Wilson cross and then taking the lead when Wilson was first to react after the Legion custodian could only parry a James Archer effort. After hitting the post, Brad Bowland sealed the deal for Sportsman with five minutes to go when he powered home a header from Archer’s cross.

The final CBC Premier game ended in a draw when hosts Intake Old Boys and visitors Renishaw Rangers drew 2-2. Bottom placed Old Boys took the lead after just six minutes when Jamie Roper fed Jonny Roper and the latter tucked it away at the near post. Just after the half hour, Rangers were level when neat inter-play saw top scorer Robin Holmes equalise. Ten minutes into the second half saw a corner drop nicely for Jack Heald and he finished to restore Intake’s lead. Both keepers were in great form and just as it looked a first win for Intake, Renishaw equalised in the last minute when a ball over the top saw an effort well saved by Spencer Bingley in the home goal but Ash Longstaff netted to ensure a share of the spoils.

23 SEP - DIVISION 1 - Forum extend their lead in a goal-laden day -  The 5 Division 1 games produced a remarkable 37 goals and 9 of them game as Forum won a real thriller at Norton Oaks B to extend their lead at the top to 6 points. Second is Royal Earl after they ended third place Cotts FC's unbeaten start. Another unbeaten record to go was Civil Sports A's as 4 goals from John Rossiter helped Norton Oaks A gain their first win of the season in a 10 goal thriller. Crookes FC also picked up their first three points at Mosborough Reds expense, as did Cobden View at home to Ranch.

Forum made it four wins out of four in Division One and go six points clear with a dramatic 5-4 win at Norton Oaks B. Nasa Meah opened the scoring for Oaks but Forum then drew level. Nathan Davies and Jack Peake then gave Oaks a 3-1 lead but Forum ensured a crazy first half would end level with two goals. The visitors took the lead for the first time but Jordan Noble looked to have got Oaks a point when he equalised five minutes from time. But Forum, despite admittedly not playing their best, got the winner in the final seconds thanks to Gavin Dawson. Also, on target for Forum were Josh Gibson with a brace and single efforts from Antony Holmes and Joseph Thompson from the penalty spot.

Cotts lost their unbeaten record however when they crashed 4-1 at Royal Earl. Michael Blythen gave the visitors the perfect start with a well struck free kick before the outstanding Sam Smith’s angled effort saw the teams in at half time on parity. Three home goals secured a good home win for Earl, with Olly Beaumont, Tom Nolan and the veteran Scott Bates netting. Another team that lost their unbeaten start were Civil Sports A when they slipped to a 6-4 loss at Norton Oaks A. John Rossiter was the main man for Oaks with four well taken goals whilst a Nick Dymock header and a close-range finish from Callum Turner. Civil gave their utmost and can find themselves slightly unlucky not to get a point with top scorer Leon Howarth netting another treble, one of penalty which Oaks found contentious, and Thomas Bamford also on target.

Also hitting six were Crookes as they defeated Mosborough Reds 6-2, a fortnight after being hit for eight on their home patch. Liam Cartledge led the scoring for the home team with a couple whilst Matt Cowen, Daniel Flynn, Peter Smith and Paul Wood also hit the back of the Reds net. Mosborough didn’t give up and Josh Tomlinson with a shot from inside the area; and a superb finish from Josh Smith when he rounded the Crookes keeper after being sent clear: gave them some respectability. Cobden View won by the odd goal in five when they defeated Ranch. Former Loxley talisman Tim Pitt turned home a corner to give the home side the advantage but Alex Mosley levelled direct from a corner to make it 1-1 at half time. Former Civil Sports midfielder Harley Wilson made it 2-1 to the visitors before Cobden dug in and after Ben Bell had levelled before Mike Walker grabbed the winner with five minutes to go.

23 SEP - DIVISION 2 - Boynton have a Ball to go top as Cadbury get eaten by Sixs - Jake Ballinger netted twice as Boynton Sports took the Division 2 top spot with a convincing victory over Brinsworth Phoenix, while Harry Buxton grabbed a hat-trick as previous leaders Cadbury were hit for six by Sheffield Sixs. Woodseats Chantrey and Mosborough Whites both maintained their perfect records with victories over Wadsley Horse & Jockey and Shakey respectively, while Woodhouse Juniors picked up their first win of the season with a thrilling victory at Civil Sports B.

Then leaders of Division Two Cadbury lost their appetite for winning and their unbeaten record with a 6-2 away at league newcomers Sheffield Sixes. Sixes made the perfect start with two goals in the first five minutes before Jacob Beech’s first of the game reduced it to 2-1 with barely ten minutes played. Two further home goals made it 4-1 at the interval before Beech again got on target. Yet Sixes pulled away again with Harry Buxton scoring a well taken hat-trick, Liam Davies at the double and Danny Barnsley. It was Cadbury’s worst performance of the season and it’ll be interesting to see how they react.

Boynton Sports weathered an early onslaught from visitors Brinsworth Phoenix to record a superb 5-1 home win. Lee Jordan’s twenty yard strike opened the scoring before he turned provider for Jake Ballinger to net his first of the game.and a 2-0 half time lead. Marcus Gordon scored a superb effort for three, Ballinger’s second from an acute angle made it four before Enos Huly ensured a nap hand. Daniel Commander scored Phoenix’s consolation with ten minutes left but it could have been worse if Ballinger hadn’t missed a penalty and Phoenix’s keeper Mikey Holmes pulling off a list of superb saves.

Staying unbeaten are Woodseats Chantrey as they recorded a 2-1 win at Wadsley Horse and Jockey. After a scoreless first half, Chantrey took the lead ten minutes into the second when Charlie Hawkins netted after a good assist from Luke Glaves. This seemed to inspire the home team and they deservedly levelled with quarter of an hour through Reece James. Just as it looked like a draw, Julian Lawrence produced a moment of magic and from his through ball the predatory Luke Simmonds scored the winner.

Two goals from Luke Walker helped Mosborough Whites to a 3-1 win over Shakey, The striker struck twice in the first half to give his side an advantage before Steve Dickinson reduced the arrears. However, the win was secured when Danny State fired low from the edge of the area and it two wins out of two for the Whites. Woodhouse Juniors won the last game of the division as they edged past hosts Civil Sports B by a narrow 4-3 win. Joe Taylor scored twice and Connor Ashforth netted for Civil but Woodhouse took the points thanks to goals from Luke Williams, Leon Cheslett, George Leesley and Billy Wakefield.

16 SEP - SENIOR SUNDAY CUP - Wickersley make sure Angles catch nothing, while Renishaw skate home against Steelers - Two of our CBC Premier Division sides started off in the opening round of the Sunday Senior Cup and both will be the hat for round two next month. Wickersley travelled to Handsworth Anglers and made it unlucky for their hosts with a 13-0 away win. Ainsley Finney (left) celebrated the return to the team after becoming a father by leading the score charts with a four goal display. The away side were nine goals to the good at half time with Finney’s strikes being added to by a Drew Houghton double, and single efforts from Cory Goodwin, Jordan Radford and Joe McGuinness. They eased off a bit in the second half but still added four more with Jonny Claxton, Michael Cuckson, Matt Godley and Goodwin’s second of the morning completing a great morning’s work for Lewis Carder’s team.

Joining them in round two are Renishaw Rangers as they recorded a 4-0 home win over Steelers Bar. They took the lead when a mistake in the visiting defence was seized upon by Ash Longstaff and he finished into the unguarded net. A second followed from Connor Shirley (right), and what a strike it was – Shirley picking the ball up and then crashing home an unstoppable twenty-five yard effort. Goal three came from Harry Rodosthenous who had the simple task of stroking the ball after good work down the right from Rikki Davidson. Davidson also set up the fourth and final goal, top scorer Robin Holmes coolly slotting the ball into the net.

16 SEP - JUNIOR SUNDAY CUP - Holders Earl see off Ranch as 14 clubs go through - Nineteen of our clubs started their journeys in the Sunday Junior Cup, although only three were guaranteed to get through as these were all Blades Super Draw League ties. The first of these came at holders Royal Earl who advanced to the next stage by defeating fellow Division One Ranch 6-0. Earl had the game won by the end of the first half as they scored four without reply as Tom Nolan with a brace netted alongside strikes from Mike Towey and Connor Chapell. The win was secured in the second half as the home side twice more as Chapell scored his second and Tom Fairweather completed a good morning’s workout. Action from the game, including both of Tom Nolan's goals, is below - pictures by Mick Moat:

The second saw last season's beaten finalists Mosborough Whites win 4-0 when they locked horns with Division Two rivals Brinsworth Phoenix. Brad Gledhill gave them the lead with a finish from twelve yards after good work from Lewis Russell and then Luke Walker scored his first of the morning when he rounded the Phoenix goalkeeper to double the lead at the twenty minute mark despite playing against a stiff wind. The lead was extended to three on the hour when Danny Howson twisted and turned before firing home a low effort and Whites deserved netted a fourth and their win when Walker netted from close range after a scramble in the penalty area.

There was a goal fest in the final all Blades Super Draw League tie as visitors Crookes defeated Norton Oaks B 7-5. Crookes started well and took a two goal lead before Scott Birch’s first of the game reduced the deficit. The visitors then added a couple more before Jack Peake and Birch’s second of the game made it 3-4 at the interval. Crookes pulled away again to lead 6-3 but Jeremiah Donnelly and Jordan Holland brought it back to 5-6 before a counter attack saw Crookes clinch the game with a seventh. Liam Cartledge, Matt Cowen and Peter Smith (all pictured left) all netted braces for the winners whilst Joe Jerrison was also on target for the winners.

Lee Hackett was the hero for Beighton Magpies as they made the next round with a penalty shootout win over visiting Spire Rangers. A wind assisted strike gave Rangers the lead but Bradley Kendall equalised for the Magpies with a well taken effort. No further scoring followed, and even extra time could not separate the sides so it was down to penalties and the home side were immaculate with five successful kicks, Hackett scoring the all decisive one.

An inspired triple substitution was the catalyst behind Boynton Sports as they overcame Horse and Tiger 9-3. Tiger took the lead after twenty minutes but Marc Peacock’s header made level at the interval. A second Tiger goal made it 2-1 but then came that triple change with Ben Jordan, Lee Jordan and Jake Ballinger entering the fray. Marcus Gordon drew Boynton level and then after that it was all the home side as they took their opponents apart. Ben Jordan scored twice whilst Ballinger, Lee Jordan, man of the match Ben Talbot and Simon Marsden also netted but also on target was keeper Adam Martin who found the Tiger net with a clearance that sailed in. Tiger scored a third in between but it mattered little.

Two goals in the first half saw Civil Sports A progress at the expense of visitors Middlewood Rovers. Thomas Bamford and Gary Eades, the latter with a wind assisted curler, did the trick for the hosts who welcomed back the ever popular Carl Whitby (left) in net after almost three seasons out of the game. Will Cutler led the scoring for Cobden View in their romp over Thorncliffe. View ran 7-1 winners on the day with Cutler scoring twice and Marcus Jock, Ben Bell, Alex Butt, Aaron Ellis and an own goal completing the tally.

Another of our sides that made it through were Mosborough Reds as they recorded a 2-0 success over New Bohemians U21’s. Jake Leonard gave Reds the lead on half time with a strike that looped over the Bohemians keeper thanks to a huge deflection and the victory was secured eighteen minutes from time when Joshua Smith fired home a low diagonal effort which was out of the keeper’s reach. Danny Barnsley’s (right) four goal effort inspired another Blades Super Draw success story. The former Wadsley Bridge Pheasant and Horse and Jockey striker grabbed four for Sheffield Sixes, one a penalty, whilst Jordan Fearn and Brad Nicholson were also on target for Sixes as they saw off Robin Hood (Millhouses) 6-1.

Joe Taylor scored a hat-trick for Civil Sports B as they also won 6-1 at the expense of Stannington Park, Jack Challoner scored twice and Alex Cowlishaw once to ensure both Civil Sports sides would be in the hat. Woodhouse Juniors are also through thanks to a 2-1 win over Brinsworth Whitehill U21’s, with Henry Bradshaw and Tom Bland on target, whilst Luke Simmonds scored a hat-trick for Woodseats Chantrey as they won 4-1 away to Woodman Juniors U21, Spencer Russell’s penalty having set them on the road after a goalless opening half.

More success came with Norton Oaks A showing the way as they had the know how in terms of scoring goals, a 5-0 success over hosts Know How being the result. Martin Lee scoring a hat-trick for Oaks and John Rossiter twice as the visitors eased into the next round whilst Cotts FC continued their great start to the season with a 5-1 away triumph over Sheffield Roses. The visitors went nap with five different scorers and never looked in danger after racing into a three goal lead with barely ten minutes played. Joe Moakes, Chenston Clarke, Kieran Patterson. Luke Kingswood and Theo Wilson (right) all finding the back of the Roses net.

Two of our clubs exited though. A severely depleted Wadsley Horse and Jockey side battled well to go into half time only one goal in arrears to Eckington Under 21’s but the lack of bodies told in the second half as Eckington ran out 9-0 victors. Colley also exited too as they were slightly on the wrong side of a seven goal game with MDS Beighton Falcons. Beighton had a two goal advantage with the wind assisting them but Brett Gardner’s free kick made it a one goal game. A defensive error saw Beighton go 3-1 ahead but Matt Meaney scored twice to bring Colley level. The home side took the lead once more and then held sway for the win despite Colley pushing incredibly hard for a leveller.

16 SEP - CBC PREMIER - Champs beaten by Redmires, while Pheasant held by Legion - There were four games in the CBC Premier Division with the big game at Malin Bridge Gas Club seeing champions Stannington Village losing for the first time since December when they entertained old foes Redmires. Lewis Dickinson should have given the home side a lead when they were awarded a penalty on twenty minutes but sent his kick wide of goal, a miss that was punished when Tom Whiting (left) put Redmires ahead with a near post effort. Dean Jepson drew Village level when he touched home a Bill Green cross before two goals in the final ten minutes from George Rudd and an unstoppable strike from Andy Bath gave Dave Knaggs’ side a 3-1 win and the points.

Leaders at the start of the day Wadsley Bridge Pheasant are still there despite being held to a 2-2 home draw by top flight newcomers Chapeltown RBL. Lewis Fothergill gave the home side the lead but skipper for the day Brad Beatson drew Legion level from the penalty spot. Joel Evans netted a penalty for Pheasant to restore their lead, but Legion came away with a well-earned point when the evergreen Adam Todd (right) equalised.

Lewis Whitiker and Sam Read were on target for Woodseats Club as they came away from their long trip to Oughtibridge WM with a 2-0 win. It’s a win that hoists Club to fifth place in the early standings but leaves the home side in the bottom two. Whilst the final game in the top division saw Norton Sportsman and Handsworth Old Crown share the spoils with a 1-1 draw. Mike Golland headed Crown into the lead but Chris Winters’ deflected effort gave Norton a valuable point in a game that either might have won.

16 SEP - DIVISION 1 - Thompson at the double to send Forum clear at the top -  The day's only Division 1 game was a clash of two sides boasting a one hundred per cent records, but visitors Forum kept theirs with a 3-1 win at Southey Social. Lee Thompson scored twice and Antony Holmes once as Forum went clear at the top of the table, Ryan Damms provided Southey’s sole response.

16 SEP - DIVISION 2 - Cadbury are choc full of surprises to go top - Last season's bottom club, Cadbury, have shown they intend to do much better this season and a second successive victory, 3-2 at Shakey, in the day's only Division 2 game was enough to take them to the top. Benji Holmes, with a penalty, and man of the match James Waite put them two ahead at half time and that was extended to three when a Shakey defender diverted the ball into his own net just after the break. Two late goals from Lewis Armstrong and Andrew Redfern got Shakey within one but Cadbury managed to hold on for the win.

9 SEP - CBC PREMIER - Chapeltown stun Intake while Oughtibridge and Wickersley get first wins – Newcomers to the CBC Premier Chapeltown RBL recorded a resounding 7-0 away at Intake Old Boys to move into third place although Intake didn’t help themselves with some calamitous defending. Adam Todd gave Legion the lead after just ten minutes and then four minutes later, it became 2-0 when Joe Moorhouse netted his first of a productive game. Following on a great team move, striker Jed Phillips netted a long-range effort for 3-0 and then Moorhouse raced clear to score a fourth with just half an hour played. Intake came out with a lot more spirit in the second half, but Ben Wright added a fifth for Legion on his first start for the club. Moorhouse completed a well taken hat-trick for number six before the visitors completed a brilliant morning’s work when substitute Keenan Gibson headed home from a pinpoint cross by Todd.

In the battle of the new boys, it was visitors Oughtibridge WM who came out on top with a 4-2 win over Norton Sportsman. Oughtibridge made the best start when Adam Duckworth tapped in from close range after Wilson Coupe’s header across the area caused problems. A second followed when Strachan Sampson beautifully set up Ross Brown and David Hudson’s team looked in control. Yet Norton scored twice in the early stages of the second half to draw level, Callum Frith setting up Jack Waymouth to tap home and then Michael Gibbons centred for Harry Mitchell to finish. With the game evenly poised, the next goal was crucial, and it went Oughtibridge’s way when Duckworth glanced home a header for his second of the game. Norton pushed on for a third but were caught on the break and the excellent Danny Booth added the fourth with just five minutes to go.

Last season’s surprise packet Wickersley made a good start to the season when they saw off Renishaw Rangers 4-1. Despite fielding a bare eleven, the home side took the lead in freak circumstances, Ben Thornton’s shot being parried by the keeper but then diverting into the net by a Renishaw defender. The visitors levelled quarter of an hour into the second half when Robin Holmes notched his third of the season from a Jimmy Savage cross. But back came Wickersley and they regained the lead when Ben Thornton (left) scored his first of the season from the penalty spot and shortly afterwards he added a second for 3-1. The game was secured five minutes from time, Cory Goodwin turned provider for Ross Johnson to net the home side’s fourth and final goal of the morning.

With defending champions Stannington Village without a game, Wadsley Bridge Pheasant and visitors Handsworth Old Crown had the chance to leapfrog Village and go to the top of the CBC Premier Division table. As it is, both climed over Stannington, but it’s Pheasant that lead on goal difference after a 2-2 draw. The home side took the lead when Andy Dawson’s corner kick was headed home by Josh Statham and it stayed that way until half time. The lead was doubled when Adam Askwith bent a superb effort into the top corner, but Crown reduced the arrears when Iren Wilson netted after a goalmouth scramble. The wind played a part in the equaliser, Jas Colliver being credited with it after the Pheasant keeper tried to punch clear against the wind.

The final game in the top division ended with hosts Redmires and visitors Woodseats Club shaking hands in an entertaining 3-3 draw. Redmires made a great start with Jon Wall and George Rudd putting them two goals to the good despite reduced to ten men when striker Danny Reet was dismissed for an off the ball incident. Within fifteen minutes of the restart, Woodseats had restored parity thanks to goals from Oxley Adams and a screamer from Whittiker. The ten men regained the lead with five minutes left, Andy Bath scoring with a nice left foot finish but Club got a point when Flanagan got his head to a ball two minutes from time.

9 SEP - DIVISION 1 - Howarth hits Crookes for six, but Cotts are the early leaders after hitting Oaks A for six, while Forum win at Earl - Early front runners in Division One are Cotts FC. They made it two wins out of two with a comprehensive 6-1 away at Norton Oaks A. The visiting side took control from the get go and were 2-0 ahead at half time, but Kenny Brakes pulled one back for Oaks with a header from a corner. A soft goal which went through the goalkeeper’s legs made it 3-1 and then Oaks seemed to lose shape and conceded three more. Scorers for the leaders were Harry Shaw with a brace, and single efforts from Tom Houghton, Gareth Scarlett, Nick Haywood and Chris Blythen who lobbed the Oaks custodian from fully fifty-five yards out.

However, the stand out individual performance in the league came in a goal-laden game at Crookes. Crookes had defeated Civil Sports A last season in their run to the Twentytwo Cup semi-finals and it looked a similar occurrence Liam Cartledge gave them the lead in the opening minute. Civil levelled matters a few minutes later when Leon Howarth scored a penalty but Crookes asserted control and went into a 3-1 lead thanks to goals from Max Pemberton and Matt Cowen. Yet Civil and particularly Howarth hadn’t read the script as the forward scored four more goals of his own to put his side 5-3 ahead at the interval. Cowen’s second of the game made it 5-4 but Civil pulled away again to record an astonishing 8-4 away with Howarth scoring an astonishing sixth goal of the day and Thomas Bamford and Callum Stewart also on target.

Ryan Damms was at the heart of all things good for Southey Social as they recorded a 4-0 win at Cobden View. He scored the opener for his side and then created the chance for Ryan Whitney to double the advantage. John Mellor made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after who else but Damms had been brought down in the area and an excellent’ s mornings work was completed when more good work by Damms saw him set up James Todd who netted the fourth with his first touch of the game.

Ranch also had a clean sheet on their travels as they came away from newly promoted Mosborough Reds with a 3-0 win. Second half goals from Harley Wilson, Ross Lamkin and Daniel Foster did the trick for the visitors for whom Tyrone Gunter turned in a man of the match performance. In the clash of the promoted sides, it was Forum maintained their perfect record with a 2-1 win at Royal. The visiting side took the lead through Matty Ord but a contentious goal from Spencer Goff drew Earl level. Earl’s hopes took a nosedive when stalwart Steve Brammer was sent off and after hitting the woodwork three times; Forum scored a winner thanks to Callum Mawbey.

9 SEP - DIVISION 2 - Chantrey are top with Phoenix hot on their heeels - There are seven teams on three points in Division Two and it’s Woodseats Chantrey who lead the way on goal difference after recording a 5-1 win at Civil Sports B. Brad Gray’s second goal of the season gave them a half time with a deflected effort. Jordan Sambrook’s first of the morning doubled the lead on the hour when he broke the Civil offside trap to score, Five minutes later, Luke Simmonds repeated the trick to make it three and it got even better for them when Sambrook scored his second of the match after good work from Charlie Hawkins. Joe Pitcher reduced the arrears for Civil but Chantrey had the last word with Simmonds ensuring a nap hand with his second of the match.

Most people’s favourites for the title Brinsworth Phoenix also had a good win as they overcame a spirited Beighton Magpies 6-3. Jack Hawkes and Daniel Commander both scored twice for the home side whilst there were first ever goals for the Phoenix from Liam Jacobi with a long-range stunner and Ellis Mills who was the beneficiary from some excellent work by star man Karl Fox. League newcomers Beighton weren’t overawed and competed well with Will Simpson, a penalty from Dale Featherstone and Bradley Kendall on target: Simpson’s strike ending a superb team move.

Boynton Sports had enough about them to overcome visitors Woodhouse JFC 3-0 thanks to a brace from Innocent Huly who opened the scoring after just twenty seconds and Marcus Gordon who turned a great feed from Ben Jordan into the Woodhouse net. Captain Jordan Meadows led by example as Mosborough Whites came from behind to record a 3-1 win at Wadsley Horse and Jockey. George Scott had given the home side the lead from the penalty spot, but Danny State levelled matters ten minutes before the interval. Meadows then took centre stage when he gave his side the lead on the hour with a low free-kick from the edge of the area and then extended that lead from the penalty spot. Jockey were awarded a second penalty in the closing stages but Mosborough keeper Curt Congreve made a great save to ensure the game finished 3-1 to his side.

Cadbury found their sweet touch with a great 3-2 win at Colley. Goals from Holmes from the penalty spot and Beech had the away side in the ascendancy after just ten minutes before Regan Dempsey’s header reduced the arrears going into half time. Colley missed a penalty of their own before Vella added a third for Cadbury. A second penalty of the game for Colley was converted by Dempsey but Cadbury held on for the win. Sheffield Sixes, another league newcomer, won their opening game when Brad Nicholson scored the only goal of their encounter with Shakey with a twenty-yard set piece, but Sixes were also indebted to defender Jordan Fearne who was immaculate in defence.

2 SEP - CBC PREMIER - Champs get off in style, while Archer on target to get Sportsman off to a flyer - Champions of the CBC Premier for five of the last six seasons, Stannington Village started their new season in familiar style: that with a victory. They defeated CBC newcomers Chapeltown RBL 3-0 at Malin Bridge Gas Club but had to work hard for their victory. After Chapeltown had made a bright start, Stannington took the lead in the twentieth minute when the prolific Alex Torr (pictured left) was brought down in the area and the striker made no mistake from the spot. They doubled their lead just before the break when Danny Abdulla and Lewis Dickinson combined to give Arnie Grayson a near post finish. The visitors battled away and had a good penalty shout turned down when Ash Burbeary was sent tumbling into the area in the second half but nothing was given. The points were secured in the final minute when Torr found Dean Jepson who headed in the third at the far post.

Last season’s runners up Wadsley Bridge Pheasant also a winning start, as they saw off perennial challengers Redmires 2-1. Danny Reet gave Redmires the lead on his debut but the teams went into the interval level when Andy Dawson’s corner was headed home by Carl Andrews. The home side dominated the second half and got their just rewards with a winner when Adam Askwith’s cross was dropped by the Redmires custodian and Lewis Fothergill had the simplest task to net.

Norton Sportsman also accrued a maximum haul in their first ever CBC Premier game; with a 1-0 away win at Woodseats Club. It was a tight game and it needed a special goal to decide it and sure enough we go one when with twenty minutes left when James Archer rocketed a long range free-kick into the top corner (the first picture below) although Sportsman were thankful to goalkeeper Conor Merone who tipped a late effort from Club over the bar. Not so lucky were Oughtibridge WM on their return to the top table as their understrength side slipped to a 3-0 loss at Renishaw Rangers. Renishaw, who were previously known as Killamarsh Juniors, took the lead when Robin Holmes fired into the bottom corner and he doubled his tally and the lead for the home team when he cracked an effort into the top corner from a superb Montelle Kamara cross-field pass. The third came in when Levi Richmond put a free-kick into the danger area and Karl Ainsworth headed home. Oughtibridge’s day was compounded late on when Ollie Black saw his penalty saved well by Renishaw stopper Simon Dye.

Two goals in the first half by Matt Ellis (right) proved to be the difference as Handsworth Old Crown made a winning beginning with a 2-1 win over Intake Old Boys. Both goals were created by Kieran Gallagher as the home side took a three point start. Intake pulled a goal back through with Callum Paine on target but could not force a leveller and come away a point as they missed numerous chances as the game headed towards its conclusion.

2 SEP - DIVISION 1 - Blythen double sees off Crookes, while Brammer treble sees Earl lord it over Oaks B - Royal Earl are a lot of people’s favourites for the Division One title and they confounded some of those thoughts with an excellent 8-2 win at Norton Oaks A. Steve Brammer (left) led the way with a hat-trick for Earl who were four goals to the good without reply at half-time, Mike Towey and Tom Nolan both added braces whilst Charlie Myers completed a good morning’s work for the visitors. A goal on his debut from Glossop and Nasa Meah were just consolation for Oaks whose manager Ashley Holland had to don the gloves after both his regular goalkeepers were unavailable to play.

Recently relegated to the second tier Civil Sports A also had a win on opening day, a single goal late on separated them and visitors Ranch on a bobbly pitch at Green Lane. Thomas Bamford with the winner from the penalty spot. Two goals from Michael Blythen and one from Kieran Patterson gave Cotts FC the perfect start as they overcame visitors Crookes FC 3-0 in their opening game and surprise last season Division Two champions who are also tipped to do well in the middle division.

Martin Lee gave Norton Oaks A the lead at another promoted side in the shape of Forum FCCO but the hosts took the points on offer though with Josh Gibson and player-manager Jamie Smith (right) giving them a 2-1 win. Both sides missed a penalty apiece in an entertaining game. A double from Carlton Carty proved decisive in the final Division One encounter as Southey Social withstood a comeback from Mosborough Reds to win 4-2. Carty struck either side of a Byron Mullen screamer and a John Mellor header to give Southey a four goal half time lead. Brad Hague pulled one back for Reds with twenty-three minutes left and Scott Williams’ added a second ten minutes later but the home side saw the game out.

2 SEP - DIVISION 2 - Danny's the boy for Colley - There was only one game in Division Two with Colley defeating visitors Shakey 5-3. Danny Parker (left) marked his Colley debut with a hat-trick whilst Ben Thorley and Ragen Dempsey also netted for the home side’s nap hand. Shakey battled well and saw Andrew Redfern, with a penalty, James Marston and Jack Battle on target for them although Dempsey’s goal and Parker’s hat-trick strike gave the home side the win. The games at Beighton Magpies (against Wadsley Horse and Jockey) and Mosborough Whites (against Sheffield Sixs) were postponed due to unplayable surfaces.

2 SEP - TWENTYTWO CUP - Hawkes eye for goal decides it for Phoenix, while Boynton just pip Chantrey - The opening day was concluded with two games in the first round of this season’s Twentytwo Cup. Josh Hawkes was the hat-trick hero for Brinsworth Phoenix as they made it through at the expense of a battling Cadbury whom they overcame 4-1. Jake Griffiths scored the other for Phoenix whilst McIntosh netted Cadbury’s sole response. Also in the hat for round two are Boynton Sports as they came from a half time deficit to win 2-1 at Woodseats Chantrey. Brad Gray had given the home side the lead on the stroke of half time but Jake Ballinger and Curtis Priday gave Boynton that coveted place in the next stage.
