28 DEC - Referee Dave Fields - The League was shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic loss of referee Dave Fields, tragically involved in s fatal accident. Dave was a popular figure on the local referees circuit and was Vice Chairman of the Sheffield Referees Association. Our thoughts go out to his wife, children and family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

17 DEC - SUNDAY SENIOR CUP - Whiting double keeps Redmires on Final track - Tom Whiting scored twice for Redmires as they drew 2-2 with Rotherham's Fitzwilliam Arms before Redmires won the penalty shoot-out to reach the semi finals for a second successive season. After a goalless first half Whiting produced a wonder goal by lobbing the Arms keeper from 40 yards, only for Arms to take the game to extra time with a late equaliser. The game swung Arms way when they took the lead in extra time, but Whiting levelled for Redmires with a terrific header. That meant a penalty shoot out and after Redmires keeper Spencer Bingley saved Arms first attempt, Redmires kept their nerve to score all theirs, with player manager Dave Knaggs hitting the crucial winning penalty Action from the game is below - pictures by Mick Moat. Intake Old Boys game at Wombwell Main was postponed due to a frozen pitch and they will have to try again on 7 January.

SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - Oliver's Earl army reach the semi finals and a Whitney winner sees Southey there - Oliver Beaumont's hat-trick was the backbone of Royal Earl's 5-1 victory over The Crown Wath to put Earl into the semi finals. Beaumont's first gave Earl a narrow half time lead, but Tom Roebuck and Mike Towey strikes soon had Earl in control. The Crown managed to pull one back, but they never looked like getting back into the tie and Beaumont made the tie certain with two more to complete his hat-trick.

A late Ryan Whitney winner at Silverwood saw Southey Social join Earl in the semi finals. The home side struck first, but Southey levelled when Todd Guest met a Jack Dickens corner. Josh Sugden put Southey ahead with a header from a Junior Wheeler cross and although the home side levelled with ten minutes remaining, Whitney struck five minutes later to put Southey through to the semi finals for a second time.

Despite a Matty Cowen goal, there was a shock exit for Crookes FC at Barnsley Premier side Swaithe, but Mosborough Whites will have to try again on 7 January after their home game with Swinton Robin Hood was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

CBC PREMIER - All CBC Premier games postponed - The freezing and wet conditions put paid to all the CBC Premier games.

DIVISION 1 - Fours all round for Hawkes, Walker, Black and Harrison in a goal feast - Brinsworth Phoenix's Jack Hawkes became the League's leading scorer with four goals in his side's victory over Colley and Ollie Black (right) and Matt Harrison also hit four each in Oughtibridge WM's victory at Steelers, while a fourth four goal haul came Mike Walker's way after a four year absence as Cobden View got back to winning ways at Civil Sports B's expense.

Phoenix took the lead against Colley with a well worked move involving Jordan Pearce before Daniel Commander slotted past the keeper to give Phoenix a half time lead. Although Matt Meaney grabbed his first on his return to Colley, it was Phoenix that ran riot. Jack Hawkes found his shooting boots and scored a quick fire hat trick with two simple tap ins from all hard work from Karl Fox and Matt Winfrow and to grab his hat trick with a solo effort. Captain Marvel Dean Foreman made it five after gettin a penalty to which he stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way. Cameran Wyatt on his debut got his just deserved goal after good team play involving Liam Brookfield and Bradley Hardy for the sixth. Joe Statham got his first with a goal of the season contender, before getting his second by winning and scoring a penalty. Jack Hawkes then got his 16th of season and his fourth of the game after latching on to Ian Winslow's through ball to round the keeper to make it nin, before Meaney grabbed a second consolation for Colley to make the final score 9-2.

Oughtibridge WM climbed to second with a 10-0 victory at a Steelers that has now conceded 102 goals, but it was Steelers best performance for weeks. They were just two down at the interval after almost giving as good as they got, but eventually Steelers tired and were hit by six goals in a fifteen minute burst. Steelers kept plugging away and had a couple of their own chances before two late goals completed Oughtibridge's scoring. As well as Black's four, Chaz Tunnard hit three, Matt Harrison two and Josh Walker one.

After just one point from four games, Cobden View persuaded Mike Walker to come back into the team up front and what a move it was as he hit four goals. Two from Walker and two from strike partner Ben Bell gave Cobden a 4-0 half time lead. Cobden keeper Chris Nelson saved a penalty soon after the break before Walker hit his third. Civil never gave up and George Ancell pulled one back before Walker struck his fourth, but Civil grabbed a second through Alex Cowlishaw.

DIVISION 2 - Barnsley treble helps keep Jockey in the top saddle - Danny Barnsley cemented his place at the top of Division Two's scoring chart with a hat-trick as Wadsley Horse & Jockey extended their lead at the top to six points with a 9-1 victory over Shakey. Steve Dickinson gave Shakey the lead but Jockey hit back to lead 2-1 at the interval. The second half saw Jockey run riot and along with Barnsley's treble other goals came from a Sam Rollitt double and one each for Damon Ashall, Ross Lamkin, Aaron Statham and Lewis Smith. The other Division Two game saw Woodseats Chantrey and visitors Woodhouse Juniors shared the points with a 1-1 draw. Rhys Oakes hit a real thunderbolt to give Chantrey a first half lead, but the second half saw  Woodhouse grab their point with an Adam Wragg strike.

3 DEC - LEAGUE TWENTYTWO CUP - Crookes see off Civil to go through to semi final - There will be at least one representative from Division Two in the final four as Crookes FC disposed of CBC Premier Civil Sports A 3-1 in their last eight encounter. Crookes were good value for their win as they raced into a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Liam Cartledge, Max Pemberton and Daniel Flynn. An understrength Civil battled away and got a consolation from Leon Howarth with a couple of minutes left but by then the tie was over and it was the end of their Cup dreams. CBC PREMIER - Thornton chews up Stannington to keep Wickersley top  - CBC Premier Division, leaders Wickersley are still ahead of the pack after recording one of their best results ever as they won 3-1 away at current champions Stannington Village despite only having one recognised defender in their line-up. Lewis Carder’s men took a deserved lead when Ross Johnson set up Ben Thornton for the opening goal and the same player doubled it when he was played in by strike partner Ainsley Finney and win the one on one duel. A defensive lapse allowed Alex Torr to reduce the arrears, but Thornton completed a first half trick with another composed finish. Stannington ramped up the pressure but could not find a way through again with Wickersley goalkeeper Ben Priestley standing tall. The result puts the champions in the bottom three, very much unthinkable.

Second placed at the start of the day, Killamarsh Juniors saw their hopes dashed in a 4-1 reverse at Intake Old Boys. Two goals in the opening twenty minutes from Mark West and Jonny Roper in command of the game, but when James Savage poked home to reduce the arrears to 2-1 it was anyone’s in the second half. Intake however reasserted their control of the game and both West and Roper completed their respective braces to secure a well-deserved home win. Moving up into second and proving to be a threat to Wickersley now are 2015-16 CBC Premier winners Wadsley Bridge Pheasant after they recorded a 3-1 home triumph over Norton Oaks A. Danny Reet gave Norton the lead but that was cancelled out when Lewis Fothergill crossed for Jordan Turner to head home the equaliser. A defensive calamity then presented Turner with the chance to put Pheasant in front and he made no mistake to put his side ahead at the break. The third duly arrived after a great run and finish by Dylan Parrott, and the home team could have scored more but squandered a lot of gilt edged opportunities.

Another surprise came in the shape of Redmires’ 3-2 home loss by Penistone Church, a result that sees Church leapfrog their hosts. A shot from the edge of the area by Lewis Dickenson gave Church but Redmires equalised five minutes before half time thanks to Dan Callow. Josh Ingham’s superb free-kick restored Church’s lead ten minutes into the second half and Dickenson’s second of the morning extended it further. The home side were given a lifeline with two minutes left when Penistone keeper Dan Hoyle allowed a Dale White shot through his hands, but the visitors held for a nervy but well rewarded away win.

The final CBC Premier match came when Handsworth Old Crown edged a tight contest 2-1 against Woodseats Club. David Sills gave Handsworth the lead, and that lead was doubled when Russell Hobson converted a penalty on the stroke of half time. Woodseats reduced the margin by one when talisman Nicky Owen scored from the spot, but the home team held on and now find themselves in the top five.

DIVISION 1 - Chambers puts the skids under the leaders - Division One leaders Woodhouse Village looked on course for another win when goals from Jonathan Dolan and Nick Haywood had them 2-0 ahead at Oughtibridge WM. Dolan could have made it three but saw his effort hit the bar before Callum Chambers and a Ross Brown header made it 2-2 at the interval. Village were made to pay for profligacy in the second half and Chambers completed his hat-trick with two further goals; one from the penalty spot. Mark Wall saw red for Woodhouse and Oughtibridge scored a fifth from a well taken Josh Walker free-kick which maintains their unbeaten league record.

In second place and two points adrift of Woodhouse are Norton Sportsman as they recorded another glut of goals at Civil Sports B, the final score 15-0 in Norton’s favour. Brad Bowland (left) and Connor Pryde both netted four goals for Sportsman, Bowland scoring a first half treble in his tally. Further goals followed from both James Archer and Danny Rogers with doubles whilst Michael Gibbons, Harry Mitchell and an own goal made up the fifteen without reply.

Also, two points behind the leaders are Chapeltown RBL as they won 6-2 away at Brinsworth Phoenix. Joe Wadsworth gave Legion the lead when he glanced in a corner from his skipper Danny Cardwell and it was doubled when Nathan Forbes smashed home a well struck effort from the edge of the area. Josh Hawkes latched onto a long pass to reduce the arrears for Phoenix. Yet Phoenix shot themselves in the proverbial foot when their keeper picked up a back pass which Cardwell rolled to Forbes who drilled home his second of the morning into the roof of the net. Still the first half goals kept coming, Hawkes making it 3-2 when he headed in a Brad Hardy corner. Legion added three more in the second half without reply, Gavin Butler setting up Callum Tuxford for number four and then turning provider again for Forbes to notch his hat-trick goal. The icing on a very nice cake came from Ash Burbeary with a well taken effort from inside the box.

Mitch Cowlishaw gave Ranch the lead at Southey Social but the home team ended up taking the points thanks to a curling strike from Ryan Damms and then the winner from Ryan Keeney who got the all-important touch to a Byron Mullen corner. Both teams could have scored more, with Michael Thomas missing a few quality chances for the visitors. The last two games in Division One both had goals in them. Cotts FC enjoyed themselves as they scored seven without reply against visitors Colley. On target for Cotts were Kieran Patterson with a hat-trick whilst a Michael Blythen double and singles from Damien Brown and Jake Day completed the rout. Norton Oaks B also won convincingly, with a 13-0 away win at bottom placed Steelers. Jack Peake and John Bates (right) both scored trebles, the latter scoring his first career hat-trick. Will Carlisle added a brace and there was a goal apiece from Nasa Meah, Jeremiah Donnelly, Oli West, Mark Turton and Billy Ireland.

DIVISION 2 - Harris at the double as the Mosborough derby goes Reds way - Wadsley Horse and Jockey remain at the top of Division Two as they overcame the ever-plucky Crookes and District by a 5-0 margin. Former Wadsley Bridge Pheasant striker Danny Barnsley scored twice for Jockey, and they secured a nap hand thanks to additional strikes from Danny Bent, Elliott Willis and Connor Jubb. With second placed Crookes FC in Twentytwo Cup action, there was a chance for teams to leap over them and both Forum and Mosborough Reds did just that. Goals from Nat Reid and Andy Harrison were enough for Forum as they saw off Cadbury 2-0 whilst it was the Reds day in the Mosborough derby as they defeated the Whites 3-1 thanks to a Joe Harris double, one from the spot, and a superb diving header from Luke Newman. Morgan Foy pulled one back for the Whites in second half added-on time, but it proved to be just a consolation effort as the Reds secured bragging rights.

Looking into for any slip ups are Boynton Sports as they defeated Woodhouse Juniors 5-2. Sean Woodward scored a double whilst the others came from Ben Jordan, Jake Ballinger and Lee Jordan. Woodhouse did play their part though with Adam Wragg’s penalty opening the scoring in the game itself and a well taken effort from Dmitri White which saw the sides level at 2-2 at the break. Finally, Royal Earl did enough to see off a valiant Woodseats Chantrey 4-2. Mike Towey led Earl’s scoring with a brace whilst goals from Steve Brammer and Gareth Simons added to it. Chantrey competed well and were rewarded with goals from Jordan Sambrook and Danny Bishop.
