21 SEP - STEVE GEE MERIT CUP FINAL - Redmires pip Cobden to win the Steve Gee  Merit Cup Final - The League's Steve Gee Merit Cup Final between last season's CBC Premier Runners-up and Sunday Senior Cup semi finalists Redmires and last season's Division Two Runners-Up Cobden View took place at Stocksbridge Park Steels Look Local Stadium, and it was Redmires that came out on top of a real thriller 3-2 to lift the trophy for a second time.

Redmires started the quicker and John Pedder almost gave them the lead with a shot that struck the outside of the post. More good work by Pedder almost broke the deadlock and the pressure finally told when a cross from the right was slammed into the bottom corner by Redmires' skipper Ben Graney. Cobden eventually got a foothold in the game and one attack ended with shouts for a penalty for handball and soon after a dangerous cross evaded everyone in the box. Redmires ended the half strongly with Jake Gamban's shot saved by Josh Delaney in the Cobden goal and soon after Delaney had to make an even better save from Pedder's low drive.

Cobden looked a different side in the second half and were soon on level terms when they carved Redmires right side open and when the cross came in Tim Pitt was on hand to roll the ball home. Pitt thought he had added a second soon after, only to see it ruled out by the assistant referee's flag for offside. Delaney then saved to stop Redmires from re-taking the lead, but it was Spencer Bingley in the Redmires goal that next had to make an even better save to stop Aaron Ellis's deflected shot.

Josh Limbrick then shot just wide as Cobden continued to drive forward, but it was Redmires that got their noses back in front when Jake Gamban scrambled the ball home from a corner. They quickly doubled their advantage when Gamban's through ball found Tom Whiting and he slid the ball home. Cobden didn't give up though and only a brave piece of keeping by Bingley stopped Pitt from scoring a second, before Cobden's Ben Bell volleyed just wide.

They were rewarded soon after though when Pitt pounced on a mistake to advance and roll the ball past the onrushing Bingley. It then needed another terrific save by Bingley to stop Pitt from completing a hat-trick. Redmires were hanging on at this stage and only two more saves by Bingley stopped Cobden from equalising before referee Matt Tyers whistled for full time. It had been a terrific effort by both sides and a great advert for the league and both clubs.

21 SEP - Fixtures for October now shown - The fixtures for October are now shown in the Fixtures section. The exception is 22 Oct as we cannot formulate any fixtures on that date until the Sunday Cup ties on 8 Oct have been played and the draw for Round 3, due to be played on 22 Oct, has been made, but all teams and referees allocated to the Blades Super Draw league that date should assume they will have a game on that date until told otherwise.

20 SEP - Sunday Cup 2nd Round Cup draws - The draws for the Sunday Senior and Sunday Junior Cups was made earlier today and it saw just one all-Blades Super Draw League tie come out of the hat - the Junior Cup tie between Division 1 Ranch and Division 2 Royal Earl. All ties in both competitions are scheduled for Sunday 8 Oct. The ties involving our clubs are as follows:

20 SEP - Fixtures for 1st October now shown - The few fixtures for 1 October are now shown. There is so few due to the Sheffield Wednesday v Leeds United game that day which kicks-off at 12:15. Entrance to the game is free, so come along and support the teams at what is arguably the best non-league ground in the Sheffield area.

17 SEP - twentytwo League Cup Round 2 draw - The draw for Round 2 of the League twentytwo Cup, made by Sheffield United's media team of Kevin Cookson (right) and Mark Woollas, saw holders Handsworth Old Crown pick up a home tie against the Division 1 Cobden View side they share their Hillsborough College pitch with. Last season's beaten finalists, Norton Oaks A, also have a home tie against early Division 1 leaders Woodhouse Village. There's just one all-CBC Premier tie, with Wickersley Youth enetertaining former holders Redmires, while Hallam FC look to have a tough task at league newcomers Royal Earl. 17 SEP - SUNDAY SENIOR CUP - Penistone win a thriller at Civil, while Redmires and Stannington both ease their way through - In the all CBC Premier tie, Penistone Church overcame Civil Sports A 3-2 at Green Lane. George Orrell gave Church the lead but Leon Howarth equalised to send the sides into the break level. Goals from Sam Scrivens and Tom Adams put the visitors 3-1 ahead and although Howarth scored his second of the morning with two minutes left, Civil couldn’t find the third goal needed to force extra time. Last season’s losing semi-finalists Redmires suffered an early surprise when their hosts Birley took the lead after just fifteen seconds! John Pedder’s sweet volley brought Dave Knaggs’ men level before Andy Bath (right) scored his first of the game to put them ahead. In the second half Bath added his second and Redmires’ third on a one on one and George Rudd sealed the deal with their fourth of the morning.

CBC Premier champions Stannington Village are also in the hat for round two as they recorded an 8-1 away at Brampton Rovers. Two strikes from Alex Torr (one a penalty) led the individual scoring tally whilst there were singles from Hobson, Flynn, Smith, Middleton and Grayson. Danny Smith’s effort being the pick of the eight when he cut inside from the wing, beat a defender and powerfully found the far corner of the Brampton net.  

SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - Eleven go through, but eight go out - Twentyone of the First and Second Division clubs were in action in the Junior Cup and eleven of these have safely negotiated the opening round. However, like the Senior Cup five of them came at the expense of other clubs in the league. Leading the way scoring wise were Division Two newcomers Forum FCCO as they recorded an impressive 9-1 home win against Division One Cotts FC. Jamie Smith (left) led the scoring with a hat-trick, Josh Gibson scored twice whilst Antony Holmes, Jav Sherratt, Jav Hefferan and Danny Higgins also netted for the home team who had a man of the match performance from Joseph Kazmierkiewicz. Cotts sole reply came from Salem Hiram.

Also defeating fellow member clubs were Royal Earl and they were also in the goals with a 7-0 win over Colley. Former Woodhouse Angel striker Mike Towey (right) scored twice as did Jack Hargreaves against an understrength Colley side. Tom Roebuck, Steve Brammer’s penalty and an own goal ensured Earl would be in seventh heaven. In another all Blades Super Draw tie, Norton Sportsman and Mosborough Reds were locked at 1-1 after extra time: Luke Fogg putting Reds ahead only for Joe Mores to head in the leveller from a Jack Waymouth corner. In the resultant shootout, stand-in keeper Josh Furniss saved two Mosborough penalties as Sportsman won 4-1 with Sonny Wilson netting the decisive kick.

Also defeating a fellow member club were Division Two Mosborough Whites as they recorded a 4-1 win at Division One Cobden View. Tim Pitt gave Cobden the lead when he raced onto a through ball and coolly lobbed the Mosborough keeper only for Jack Bennett to level matters. Two goals from Danny State, one a brilliant free-kick, and one from Jordan Meadows saw the visitors make round two. The final all-Blades Super Draw tie saw Division One Norton Oaks B defeat Division Two Woodhouse Juniors 2-0 at Tapton School; both goals coming from Jack Peake of which one was a penalty kick.

The most exciting tie saw Tyrone Gunter and Matt Jacobs doubles help Ranch win an eleven goal thriller at Middlewood Rovers, while a Liam Cartledge treble helped Crookes FC to a comfortable win at New Bohemians. A Jake Ballinger treble helped Boynton Sports through at Sheffield Legends, while Brad Gray and Jordan Sambrook doubles saw Woodseats Chantrey through at Brierley Cubs U21 and Ryan Whitney and Josh Sugden doubles helped Southey Social go through at The Kop End's expense. A Jack Hawkes double helped Brinsworth Phoenix through at Thorncliffe, but for Crookes & District, Wadsley Horse & Jockey and Civil Sports B it was the end of the road.

Ranch went through as they came out on the right side of an eleven-goal thriller. Tyrone Gunter and Matt Jacobs both scored twice, whilst Jack Jones and Michael Vella also netted for them. Woodseats Chantrey recovered from going a goal behind to secure their place in round two as they defeated Brierley Cubs 4-1 away from home. Brad Gray capped a man of the match performance with a brace whilst Jordan Sambrook also added a brace of his own as Chantrey bounced back from last week’s heavy league loss.

Liam Cartledge’s ten-minute treble helped Crookes FC to a 6-0 away win at New Bohemians B; with Matt Cohen, Peter Smith and an own goal making up the tally. Also scoring six goals away from home were Boynton Sports at Sheffield Legends, Jake Ballinger scored his second hat-trick in as many weeks to put the game beyond their hosts. Marcus O’Malley, former Stannington Village defender Marc Peacock and a Ross Thomson penalty were also on target for Boynton. Southey Social were in total command of their tie against The Kop End and went nap with a 5-0 win. Ryan Whitney and Josh Sugden both were at the double for a Scott Ellis inspired Southey side whilst Callum Sugden also found the net for the home team.

Brinsworth Phoenix also made the next stage as they recorded a 4-0 away win at Thorncliffe; Jack Hawkes scored a double and single efforts from Richard Ellin and Jordan Smith ensured a successful path. Oughtibridge WM are our final team through but without kicking a ball in anger as opponents Charnock Ridgeway U21 sadly folded operations before the game. Three Blades Super Draw sides did exit at the opening round. Crookes and District were dispatched 8-1 by visitors Bolsover Town; Johnnie Butler scoring Crookes sole strike just before half time. Wadsley Horse and Jockey are also out, defeated 4-2 at Eckington U21’s despite goals from Danny Barnsley and James McCormac. Civil Sports led their hosts Wincobank Crown Inn 2-1 at half-time but the second half was a different story as Crown turned it around to secure a 6-3 win; James Greenwood scored twice and Joe Taylor once for David Firth’s team.

17 SEP - CBC PREMIER - First Premier wins for both Intake and Killamarsh, but an Owen double helps keep Woodseats Club top - The CBC Premier's top two met and  Woodseats WMC stayed on top after a thrilling 3-3 draw at Wadsley Bridge Pheasant. Nick Owen (left) gave them the lead from the spot after a deliberate handball which also sent Pheasant down to ten men. Then the game really came to life. An own goal and a Jordan Turner goal put the hosts 2-1 ahead only for a superb solo effort from Liam Bryan and Owen’s second of the morning to restore Club’s lead with three minutes to go. However, Pheasant got a share of the spoils thanks to a penalty of their own, converted by Joe Slater.

A last gasp winner from Mark West saw Intake Old Boys come from two down to claim their first ever CBC Premier victory, 4-3 at Hallam FC. Goals from Dan Fox and David France had Hallam FC 2-0 ahead against CBC Premier newcomers Intake Old Boys but Jack Heald pulled one back from the spot after a handball in the penalty area. Intake were back on parity when Jonny Roper’s cross to the far post was tapped home by debutant Mark West. West's cross created a scramble and Harry Groombridge poked home Intake’s third of the game, before France’s second of the game made it 3-3 with quarter an hour left, but the visitors took the spoils in added-on time when West took advantage of some slack home defending to cap an amazing debut. Wickersley Old Village took the lead at Killamarsh Juniors when Adam Daughtrey netted after good work from Joe McGuinness. Daughtrey thought he had doubled the lead but saw it chalked off for an apparent offside. Matt Stead, with a penalty, and Jon Packman put the home team ahead and the game still had time for more controversy as Wickersley had two claims for penalties waved off and then McGuinness was felled at the edge of the area the referee awarded the free-kick Killamarsh’s way as the home side were preparing to set up a wall. The resultant counter saw Montel Kamara brilliantly bring the ball down, beat a Wickersley defender and drill the ball home. Former Vine stalwart Rikki Davidson’s first Wickersley goal with two minutes left made a one goal game but Killamarsh held on.

DIVISION 1 - Ryan is dead-Lee to send Village top - Debutant Ryan Lee had a game to remember for Woodhouse Village George as they brushed aside Steelers 7-0 in the only First Division game. Lee scored an incredible five times whilst there were also goals for Chris Salt and Theo Wilson as the result was more than adequate to see the hosts ascend to the top of the table against Steelers side lacking a cutting edge and waiting for their first points of the season.
