13 NOV - CBC PREMIER - Stannington see of Angel to go top as Turf and Redmires draw, while Phoenix get off the mark - The hotly anticipated game in the CBC Premier Division ended all square as hosts FC Handsworth Turf and visitors Redmires drew 1-1. Turf will pinpoint their failure to take a number of first half chances to go clear at the top, with striker Russell Hobson hitting the crossbar and post and David Sills having a shot cleared off the line. Turf did take the lead in the second half when the talismanic James Leesley hit a twenty-five yarder into the top corner only for Redmires’ own talisman Jon Wall to level with a superb free-kick. The visitors were denied a penalty when player-manager Dave Knaggs went tumbling but the referee played on.

This result allowed Stannington Village, who started the day second, to ascend to the summit as they beat Woodhouse Angel 6-2 at Malin Bridge. Sean Flynn’s glancing header from Joe Barker’s cross gave Village the lead only for Jordan Rymell to level matters. Adam Todd’s twenty yard strike, off the post, restored the advantage only for Mitch Husbands to make it 2-2 at the interval. A well taken effort from Alex Torr made it 3-2, and the same player made it four from the spot after Mike Towey had been dismissed for a professional foul. Skipper Lee Johnstone made it five with an effort that was too hot to handle for the Angel keeper and Danny Smith completed the scoring when he danced past his full back before hammering home via the far stanchion.

Two identical goals from Liam Paterson (left) helped Norton Oaks “A” to move into fourth as they defeated current CBC Champions Wadsley Bridge Pheasant 3-1; a result that sends the visitors into the bottom three. Paterson latched onto two through balls to put his team in command, but Pheasant had a lifeline when Danny Barnsley scored after Oaks failed to deal with a set piece. Buoyed by this, Pheasant created many chances and Norton were thankful to Ben Birtles making a string of good saves before Alan Mowforth scored on the counter to seal the points.

In another good game, Civil Sports “A” came from behind to share the spoils with visitors Hallam in a 3-3 draw at Green Lane. Hallam took the lead on the half hour through Callum Frain before Civil skipper Ben Brown levelled from close range only for Adam Cawood’s (right) first of the day to give the visitors a 2-1 half time lead. Cawood’s second in the opening minute of the second half extended it to 3-1 before Harley Wilson’s penalty reduced the arrears with still forty minutes left. The home side made it 3-3 with a quarter of an hour left, Paul Billard slotting home after a one-on-one with the Hallam custodian.

The final game in the CBC Premier saw Brinsworth Phoenix take their first points of the season with a 4-1 win over fellow strugglers City Taxis. Phoenix took the lead with an amazing forty yard effort into the top corner from skipper Evan Watson that had the Taxis keeper rooted to the spot; but Shane Robsco made it level by the interval. The home team controlled the second half and added three unanswered goals thanks to Jack Hawkes, man of the match John Mellor and a controlled finish from Karl Fox.

DIV 1 - Leaders get Nicked, while Penistone get Council approval - Division One leaders Killamarsh Juniors were understrength for the visit of Woodseats Club; and suffered for it as they crashed to a 7-1 loss which sends Woodseats into third place. Nick Owen did the principal damage as he bagged four, Liam Bryon added a brace and Matt White one to put them into seventh heaven. Ryan Hall scored Killamarsh’s only goal who also had an effort chalked off for offside in the first ten minutes. Action from the game is below - pictures by Mick Moat.

Creeping up into second and maintaining their one hundred per cent record are Penistone Church as they scored a late goal to edge past Dale WMC 3-2. The in-form Tim Council headed them into the lead after quarter of an hour only for Jake Schofield to level from the spot three minutes later after George Rudd was upended by the Church keeper. Council’s side foot finish made it 2-1 before Rudd again was fouled in the area shortly afterwards and Schofield notched from the spot once more. A tight second half saw Dale hit the bar twice with quarter of an hour left before Council headed in the winner, completing a hat-trick, with just five minutes left.

Southey Social recorded their first win of the season when winning by the odd goal in five at high flying Intake Old Boys. Joe Lancashire scored twice for the hosts, but goals from Todd Guest, Josh Sugden and Lewis Twibell saw Southey take the points. In the final Division One game, Ranch had the majority of the play but had to settle for a point with AFC George. Michael Blythen gave the visitors the lead but Josh Naylor’s back post finish ensured the spoils were shared.

DIV 2 - Leaders get screwed by Phillips, while Coates gets Crookes up and running - The biggest surprise in Division Two came when leaders Woodhouse Village crashed to a 6-2 home loss to David Firth’s Civil Sports “B” team. Nick Lazenby had denied a bright Civil side on numerous occasions before Greg Burgin headed Woodhouse into a half time from a Lee Dolan free-kick. The game turned when Woodhouse had Matt Fells sent off for a late challenge, and Civil took advantage thanks to a treble from Jed Phillips, a brace from Joe Taylor and one from Mitchell Seymour. Josh Tomkins netted the other home goal following good work by Oliver Barrett.

Free-scoring Cobden View remain close by in third following a 4-0 away win at Woodseats Chantrey who remain rooted to the bottom of the table. Scott Green denied Cobden the lead ten minutes before the break with a superb penalty save but second half strikes from Tim Pitt (left) with two, Rich Higgins and Cav Rowland secured the win for the visitors who are just a point behind second place Norton Sportsman.

Having scored double figures the previous weekend against the same opposition, many would have expected Norton Oaks “B” to replicate it. However Steelers did gain some respectability as Norton settled for a 3-0 away win, and in the process record their third win on the spin. James Borrill scored a penalty to add to the four he scored the week prior, whilst Sam Wells and Ryan Freeman completed the scoring.

Two goals in the first half set Colley on the way to a 4-2 win when they hosted Woodhouse Juniors with Josh Connor opening the scoring and former Loxley striker Anthony Marshall doubling it by the interval. It was a more even second half with both teams scoring twice, Akram Miladi and big Dave Beevers adding to the Colley tally whilst Matthew Megson and Tom Bland scored for the battling visitors. And finally, a solitary goal from Jordan Coates, maintaining his good run of scoring form, was enough for Crookes and District to take the points at The Shakey.

8 NOV - The Twentytwo Cup Quarter Final draw sees Redmires set to host Turf  - The League Twentytwo Cup Quarter Final draw made at Bramall Lane today by the Blades Operations Director Dave McCarthy and the Blades Head Receptionist Sue Bramhall saw just one all CBC Premier tie come out of the bag, but it promises to be a real cracker between two former winners, Redmires and FC Handsworth Turf. Holders and CBC Premier Champions Wadsley Bridge Pheasant will play host to Division One Woodseats Club, while Division One title favourites and semi finalists last season Penistone Church entertain CBC Premier Woodhouse Angel. The last tie sees CBC Premier Norton Oaks A entertain Division One Killamarsh Juniors. All ties will be scheduled for Sunday 4 December, kick-off at 11 am, The full draw is Norton Oaks A v Killamarsh Juniors; Penistone Church v Woodhouse Angel; Redmires v FC Handsworth Turf; Wadsley Bridge Pheasant v Woodseats Club.

7 NOV - Turf to hold a "Pay your subs to John" day on 20 November  - CBC Premier leaders FC Handsworth Turf is well known for its charitable efforts and they are again putting their money where their mouth is by holding a "Pay your subs to John" day on 20 November. All their subs collected on the day and any other monies they can get from supporters, sponsors, friends, other grassroots players will be donated to Sheffield Legend John Burkhill (right) in his quest to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan. John lives in Richmond Park, Handsworth and we would like to show him our support for what he does.

6 NOV - LEAGUE TWENTYTWO CUP - Pheasant see off Stannington again, while Turf and Redmires win the other all-CBC Premier ties - Holders Wadsley Bridge Pheasant knocked Stannington Village out of the League Twentytwo Cup for the second successive season. Pheasant have not had the best of league results but in the Cup they have shown their true potential and they have made the quarter-finals with a 3-0 home win. Joe Howsham hit the post for Stannington with an excellent header from a Lee Johnstone cross only for Pheasant to counter and score when Danny Barnsley reacted first to a parried Adam Askwith (left) shot. Askwith made it 2-0 with a fine finish to put the home side in control at half time, only for Stannington to ramp up the pressure in the second half. Inspired by Man of the Match Luke Beedham, Pheasant repelled the visitors onslaught and secured the win with five minutes left when Kane Doughty set up Reece James for the clinching goal.

Another great game came at Redmires, who overcame fellow CBC Premier side Brinsworth Whitehill 6-3 after extra time. Redmires took the lead but Tom Coker’s twenty yard effort levelled matters. Cory Goodwin made it 2-1 with a fine header only for the home side to level just before the break. Ten minutes into the second half, Redmires edged ahead again but Adam Pursehouse’s cross was headed home by Tom Walker for 3-3. Three goals in the extra time period saw Redmires home. Redmires goalscorers were Conal Jacklin and Mikey Taylor with two apiece, Danny Turner and player-manager Dave Knaggs both adding singles.

FC Handsworth Turf played some excellent football as they disposed of City Taxis 7-0 at the HSBC Grounds. David Sills (right) and Pip Miskell had them two goals to the good inside the first five minutes before Sills completed his first half treble and James Leesley added another to make it 5-0 at the interval. The City Taxis goalkeeper was doing a sterling effort to keep the score down with a string of top quality saves before Russell Hobson headed home a Mario Esposito cross for six and Ryan Goodinson added a seventh. It was almost eight when Ben Shackshaft hit the post.

Danny Reet hit a hat trick to put Norton Oaks “A” into the hat as they won 3-1 at AFC George. He opened the scoring with the only goal of the first half, and then added two more in the second to put the game beyond the hosts. Another hat trick hero was the free scoring Tim Council as Penistone Church beat Ranch 5-2. The home team took a first minute lead and added a second just before half-time only for Matt Jacobs to pull one back for Ranch. Two further goals extended it to 4-1 before substitute Joe Denby added a consolation only for Penistone to add a fifth. Penistone’s other goals came from Danny Howes and Mitchell Savage.

Rikki Davidson scored four times and Mitch Husbands once as Woodhouse Angel defeated Ecclesfield Players Lounge 5-1 at Davys. Mark Groves hit the visitors only goal. Killamarsh Juniors and Woodseats Club made the final eight, also with 5-1 wins. Killamarsh defeating Woodhouse Juniors away thanks to two goals from Joe Glover and one each for Chris Savage, Danny Phoenix and Josh Batterham. Tom Bland replied for Woodhouse. Two from Nick Owen helped Woodseats Club past Norton Sportsman  by the same scoreline. Beech, Flanagan and a twenty yarder from Lee Dyson completed the nap for Woodseats, while Josh Furniss hit Norton’s consolation.

CBC PREMIER - Civil make it three wins out of four - Civil Sports A made it three wins out of four with victory at Hallam in the day's only CBC Premier game. The home side started well but Civil came back into the game and took the lead thanks to Gary Eades. Both teams had chances in the second half, but Wes Bamford was the only one to find the net and secure the points in a well contested game superbly refereed by Paul Holmes. DIV 1 - Intake miss out on top spot, but Oughtibridge see off Dale at last to go second - Intake Old Boys missed out on top spot by being held to a draw by fellow promotion hopefuls Chapeltown RBL and they even lost second place to Oughtibridge WM after they finally beat Dale WMC in their third consecutive clash. Chapeltown RBL will be ruing themselves as they let a two goal lead slip at home to a patched up Intake Old Boys side that had their manager Cole Starkes (right) playing his first game in four seasons. Joe Malone gave the home team the lead when heading home skipper Danny Cardwell’s cross and then Cardwell added the second with a superb turn and low finish. Starkes had missed a chance from a yard out but reduced the arrears with a curler from distance just before the break. Veteran James Colliver levelled early in the second half but despite both teams having more chances, a draw ended the fairest result on the day.

Oughtibridge WM raced into a three goal lead when eventually defeating Dale WMC 4-2. Goals from Chaz Tunnard, a header from Simon Duckworth and a brilliant, free kick from Ollie Black put them in control. Dale pulled goals back with an own goal and then Jake Schofield to create an interesting game only for the hosts to score a killer fourth goal with just five minutes to go when Strachan Sampson (left) allowed Danny Clinton to get on the end of a flowing team move to secure the points.

DIV 2 - Norton go goal crazy, while Village take over at the top and Cobden climb into the top three - There was thirty six goals in the four Division Two matches, with twenty one of them coming in the Norton Oaks “B” – Steelers encounter. Under pressure from the start with only able to field ten players; Steelers slumped to a 20-1 away loss is possibly the biggest scoreline in League history. James Borrill and Mark Turton both got four, Hamza El Yougo a treble, Nasa Meah; Jordan Holland and Michael Peake with a double each. Matt Jessermino, Sam Wells and John Bates completed the rout, whilst Steelers were thankful for an own goal for their sole strike.

Free scoring Cobden View went third after adding another glut of goals as they defeated The Shakey, 7-1. Ben Bell scored four, substitute Rich Higgins two, one a penalty, and Tim Pitt to make it seven, Shakey’s only goal being an own goal. Woodhouse Village went to the top after they came from behind to win 3-1 at Colley 3-1. Josh Connor had given Colley the lead but Tom Reed, Andrew Saville and Matt Fells gave the visitors the win. And finally, Farquharson’s early strike gave Cadbury a fifth minute lead at Crookes & District only for Totty to level early the second half, Crookes looked certain to go on and win but Conway grabbed the sweet men a winner ten minutes from time.
