31 OCT - League fixture changes for 6 November - Due to some errors when the fixtures for 6 Nov were compiled, the following changes to the fixtures for 6 Nov have been made: DIVISION 1 Southey v AFC George postponed DIVISION 2 Cobden View v The Shakey, Colley v Woodhouse Village. All other fixtures are as previously shown on the website. 31 OCT - Whitehill just one game away from New York !! - CBC Premier side Brinsworth Whitehill played in the quarter final of the Rotherham Charity Cup last week against the Rotherham & District League Premier champions Plough and deservedly won the game 1-0 through an Ainsley Finney penalty in the first half. Brinsworth dominated the game from start to finish with Ross Johnson and Adam Pursehouse both coming close before the penalty incident. Ainsley Finney was put through by Aran Hague and was brought down in the box. Ainsley Finney stepped up and slotted home to give Brinsworth a deserved lead. The second half began the same way as the first ended with Brinsworth on top, but when Plough's quality began to show, Brinsworth defended well to stop them having any clear cut chances. With Plough pushing for an equaliser Brinsworth had Two superb chances to finish the game with the goalkeeper making good saves from Cory Goodwin and Danny Willis. Brinsworth saw the game out and deservedly went through to the semi final which is due to be played in April at Parkgate FC's ground with the Final at Rotherham United's New York stadium. 30 OCT - CBC PREMIER - Turf go top as Stannington end Redmires record, while Whitehill Rocked by Angel - FC Handsworth Turf went to the top of the CBC Premier with a 7-1 victory over City Taxis. Jordan Stocks and David Sills gave Turf a two goal half time lead and when Taxis were reduced to ten men soon after the break, the floodgates opened and an own goal was quickly followed by James Leesley, Ben Shackshaft, Mario Esposito and Ryan Goodinson strikes before Carl Hopwood hit Taxis consolation. Turf is now the only team with a perfect record after previous leaders Redmires record was ended by a 2-1 defeat at second place Stannington Village. Adam Todd almost gave Stannington the lead when Cory Mann’s throw in was flicked on by Joe Howsham, but Todd’s header was well saved by the keeper, but soon after an almost identical move saw Todd volley home to put Stannington ahead. Redmires levelled when Conal Jacklin’s cross was headed home by Jake Gamban and although both Jacklin and Jon Wall hit the woodwork as Redmires pushed for a winner, it was Stannington that took the points when sub Ben Cook celebrated his return after a long injury lay-off by heading home Dean Jepson’s cross. Just behind the top three is Woodhouse Angel after they ended Brinsworth Whitehill’s unbeaten away record with a 6-1 victory. ‘Rocky’ Davidson (left) hit a hat-trick after his switch from Redmires and he was backed up by two terrific Mitch Husbands strikes and a sixth from new signing Dean Hemming. Ross Johnson’s seventh of the season was Whitehill’s only consolation. Action from the game is below - pictures by Mick Moat.
Norton Oaks A maintained their challenge with a 4-1 victory over Brinsworth Phoenix. John Mellor and Nicky Shaw combined to set Jack Hawkes up to give Phoenix the lead, but it was all downhill for the visitors after that. Jamie Marshall levelled before Danny Reet put Oaks ahead. Liam Paterson added a third and Alan Mowforth a fourth after the game’s best move. It might have been worse for Phoenix as Oak’s had three ‘goals’ disallowed. Action from the game is below.
Champions Wadsley Bridge Pheasant avoided a third successive defeat with a narrow 3-2 win at Civil Sports A. Pheasant took the lead when quick thinking by Andy Dawson saw his quick free kick leave the Civil keeper stranded and it was doubled by Reece James. After the break Civil got back into the game and Thomas Bamford pulled one back. With Jon Wragg outstanding for Pheasant in his first game of the season, Danny Barnsley restored their two goal lead before Bamford’s second set up a nervy last few minutes, but Pheasant held on. DIV 1 - Killamarsh go top, while Scivens and Orrell doubles see Penistone end Woodseats unbeaten record - Division One also has new leaders after their 4-2 victory over AFC George. James Savage, Jack Stanley and Matt Stead put Killarmarsh three up before Gareth Scarlett and a Michael Blythen penalty brought George back into the game until Joe Glover’s close range finish. Penistone Church are up to third by maintaining their perfect record with a 5-1 victory over title rivals Woodseats Club. Woodseats dominated the first thirty minutes during which Nick Owen gave them the lead and they struck the woodwork twice, but Penistone brought themselves back into the game with a Lewis Dickenson equaliser. The second half belonged to the hosts and two goals each from Sam Scrivens and George Orrell gave them victory. Another side to come from behind was Chapeltown RBL who won 3-2 at Ranch to climb up to fourth. Conor Brunt gave Ranch the lead, but Chapeltown changed formation and levelled with an unstoppable free kick by stand-in skipper Gav Burbeary. Chapeltown took the lead when Gav Thorpe was bundled over by the Ranch keeper and Joe Malone slammed home the spot kick and Neil Boote, making his first appearance for six months, made it three when he gobbled up the rebound after Thorpe’s header had crashed against the bar. An own goal handed Ranch a second, but Chapeltown hung on. After losing 3-0 at Dale WMC in the Sunday Cup the previous week, an injury ravaged Oughtibridge WM did much better when they met for a second time in eight days and claimed a 3-3 draw. Manager Dave Hudson (right) had to pick himself and he headed into Callum Simms path for him to fire Oughtibridge into the lead. Dale levelled with a Sean Maloney strike and took the lead through Jake Schofield, but the teams went into the break level after Ollie Black scored a superb equaliser. Dale went ahead again with a Sam Roberts strike, but Oughtibridge claimed a point when Hudson tapped home from Chaz Tunnard’s cross. Ecclesfield Players Lounge and Southey Social also had to settle for a point each from their 2-2 draw. After missing an easier chance, Danny Barnett gave Ecclesfield the lead and it was doubled by Joe Knight. Knight then missed a good chance and soon after the break Mark Groves hit the Southey bar with a header. Southey got back into the game with a Cameron Wyatt goal and levelled with a Josh Sugden strike, but Ecclesfield should have taken all three points when Knight was felled in the area, but George Sheen missed the spot kick. Ashley Matthew also wasted two good chances to win it for Ecclesfield. DIV 2 - Norton recover from early shock to stay top, while Village win the Woodhouse double for a second time - Division Two leaders Norton Sportsman got an early shock at Woodseats Chantrey when good work by Ben Raynes allowed Russell Cawthorne to give the home side the lead after just ten seconds. Norton hit back midway through the first half when Brad Bowland hit his twelfth of the season and he gave them a half time lead with his thirteenth. Woodseats were making the leaders work hard to keep their lead until Jack Waymouth made it 3-1 in the last ten minutes. Woodhouse Village maintained the pressure on them with their second win in a week, 3-0 over their neighbours Woodhouse Juniors. After Village had wasted several chances they took a first half lead with Greg Burgin’s back post header from Ryan Simmonite’s corner. The first chance of the second half saw Simmonite tap the ball home after the keeper had spilled Matt Fells free kick. Oliver Barrett missed a couple of chances to make it three before he hit a ‘worldie’ past the stunned keeper. Jed Phillips scored four and Taylor two as Civil Sports B went third after their 6-4 win at Crookes & District. The home side pushed them all the way and led 4-3 at the break with a Puang hat-trick and one from Jordan. Norton Oaks B also hit six in their victory at Cadbury. Freeman hit a hat-trick while their others came from Yougo, Chapman and Peake, while Karl Vella netted a late consolation for Cadbury. Colley maintained their unbeaten record with a 3-1 win at Steelers. A mix-up in the home defence allowed Will Quince to give Colley the lead, but Steelers levelled before half time with a Rhydian Watkins strike. Colley also had a man sent off before the break, but soon after half time they re-took the lead with a Faisal Miladi header at the back post. Steve Dickinson was having to work hard as Colley’s lone striker and his efforts were rewarded when he tapped home Colley’s third. |
23 OCT - SUNDAY SENIOR CUP - Ryan saves Stannington and Redmires Wall too much for Swallownest, while Oaks hit magnificent seven - Goalkeeper Nathan Ryan (left) was the hero for Stannington Village as they won 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out at Meadowhall League side Crookes. The custodian saved three home spot-kicks to give his side the win after Joe Howsham, Adam Todd and Alex Torr had all scored for Village. Todd had previously volleyed Stannington into an early lead after Torr had been sent clear by Howsham; only for Crookes to level on the stroke of half time. After riding an early storm from hosts Swallownest Miners Welfare in the first twenty minutes, Redmires booked their place in the next round with a 4-1 away win. Inspirational figure Jon Wall hit a hat-trick and striker Andy Bath the other as the visitors controlled the game from there on. It could have been more with chances coming a plenty but Redmires settled for four. Norton Oaks “A” are also into the next round with a 7-3 home defeat of Hemsworth Miners Welfare. The tie was beyond the visitors in the first twenty-five minutes as two from Alan Mowforth (right) and singles from Jamie Marshall and Kenny Brakes had Norton four goals ahead. Liam Paterson’s header made it five at half-time, and then substitutes Danny Reet and Rich Conway extended it to seven. However Hemsworth took advantage of some Norton complacency to score three times and give the result a lop sided look. Action from the game is below:
A plucky effort from Brinsworth Phoenix was not enough as they exited 4-2 at Worksop Borough. Phoenix were four goals behind when a surging run from defender Joe Statham saw him lash home from long range and although a superb bit of work from Kieran Goff and John Mellor set up Karl Fox for Phoenix’s second; it was just not enough. Phoenix’s neighbours Whitehill also went out, 2-1 at High Noon. Missing influential figures Ross Johnson and Ainsley Finney, Whitehill went behind to a goal against the run of play. Ryan Watson had a header cleared off the line and Mike Hare also was close for the visitors, yet they conceded a second on the break. Jake Muscroft pulled one back late on but it was not enough for Lewis Carder’s men. SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - Penistone and Chapeltown both hit double figures, while Dale send Oughtibridge packing - In the Junior Cup, both Chapeltown RBL and Penistone Church hit double figures in comprehensive home wins. Chapeltown were 5-0 up at half time thanks to an Andy Varns hat-trick and singles from Joe Malone and Ryan Robinson. The second half was in the same vein and skipper Danny Cardwell helped himself to a double whilst Alex Evison’s first for the team, an own goal and an excellent left footed finish from the outstanding Joe Littlewood made it ten. Penistone Church went one better, overcoming visitors Rhodesia 11-1. The goal machine that is Tim Council (left) scored another hat-trick to take his tally to twelve in just three rounds, whilst George Orrell and Mitchell Savage both weighed in with a double. Penistone’s other goals came from Scott Briggs, John Whitehead, Brad Kemp and Lewis Dickenson against their beleaguered opponents. Two goals from Liam Hogg helped Dale WMC settle the all Blades Super Draw League against Oughtibridge WM. Both sides had hit each other’s woodwork before three goals in six second half minutes put the home side in control. Hogg opened the scoring five minutes after half-time with a shot that was too powerful for the visiting keeper, Stefan Rankine’s persistence forced an Oughtibridge defender to turn the ball past his own keeper for two before Hogg got his second in the fifty-sixth minute; heading in man of the match Shannon Marsland’s cross. Harry Hartley made it 3-1 but Oughtibridge couldn’t make any further inroads. Woodseats Club were helped by a brace from Nick Owen as they won 4-2 at Groves Social; Lees and Sharpe also on target. Joe Knight (right) also scored twice (one a penalty) as Ecclesfield PL defeated visitors East Dene 3-0 to book their place in the next round; Ashley Matthews scoring his first for the club to complete the scoring for Paul Bashforth’s team. James Borrill scored on his debut for Norton Oaks “B” but they exited 2-1 at Brampton Rovers. Colley are also out after a nine goal thriller with Earl Grey Blue; Andy Hill and Faisal Miladi had them 2-0 ahead but the visitors then levelled it by half-time, Myles Dempsey restored Colley’s lead only for their opponents to score three unanswered goals. Danny Booker made it 4-5 but a fifth goal eluded Colley in a game they should have won. Crookes and District also fell by the wayside, losing 3-1 after a valiant showing at Dalton Progressive. CBC PREMIER - Turf keep perfect reccord at Hallam, while Civil make it two wins on the trot at Taxis - Just a couple of games in the CBC Premier Division and FC Handsworth Turf are still unbeaten after a 2-0 win at Hallam. Russell Hobson gave them a tenth minute lead when he got his head to a Ryan Goodinson cross and Turf then missed a hatful of chances to extend it. Joe France’s (left) glancing header from a Jordan Stocks free-kick in the second half as the visitors ran out deserved winners. Civil Sports “A” made it two wins out of two with a workmanlike 2-1 win at City Taxis. Carl Hopwood’s miscued clearance landed at the feet of Zak Fleming-Wright who provided a calm finish for an early lead which was doubled by a low effort from Gary Eades. Taxis goalkeeper Luke Carrigan then denied visitors a hatful in a competitive game and despite Elliott Coles pulling one back with a strike that looked yards offside; Civil came out on top they were in control of from the beginning. DIV 1 - Killamarsh go joint top with victory at George, while Ranch jump four places with victory over Southey - Montelle Kamara scored a treble as Killamarsh Juniors won 4-1 away at AFC George. Ryan Hall scoring the other, after Alex Catton had given the hosts the lead. In the other Division One game, Ranch improved their league standing with a 2-0 victory over a struggling Southey Social side – the home side being grateful to goals either side of the break from Connor Brunt. DIV 2 - Village win Woodhouse derby, but Bowland treble keeps Sportsman top - Division Two leaders Norton Sportsman still lead the way after a 7-1 home win over Cadbury. Brad Bowland (right) scored another hat-trick to take him the top of the goalscoring charts with eleven for the season, whilst two from James Archer and singles off Sonny Wilson and Andy Gibbons completed the home scoring with Farquharson scoring the Cadbury lone strike. Goals from Theo Wilson and Matt Lancashire; one in each half; were enough to win the Woodhouse derby for Village and keep the pressure on Norton. Cobden View had to work hard for their 5-1 home win against Steelers. Ben Bell scored twice whilst Rowland, Higgins and Naylor completed the nap hand, Joe Armitage being the sole scorer for the visitors who deserved a great deal more for their efforts. Civil Sports “B” and The Shakey though provided the best entertainment; sharing ten goals. The home side scored through Jed Phillips with two, Joe Taylor, Ryan Haywood and Mitchell Seymour whilst Billy Hilbert’s treble and singles from Andrew Redfearn and Josh Blunkett got Shakey a point in an incredible game. |
16 OCT - SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - Oughtibridge smash Jack-in-a-Box - Chaz Tunnard with four, Callum Chambers with three and one from Simon Duckworth saw Oughtibridge WM to an 8-1 win over Jack-in-a-Box B to put them through to Round 3 the Sunday Junior Cup where they will face fellow Division One side Dale WMC next weekend. CBC PREMIER - Torr pips Taxis, while Finney treble puts champs in a spin - It proved to be the great escape for Stannington Village as they scored twice in the last eight minutes to beat a plucky City Taxis 4-3 at Malin Bridge. Alex Torr opened the scoring with a long range effort before Scott Westney equalised with a strangely awarded penalty kick. Elliott Coles gave Taxis the lead before Torr’s second of the morning made it 2-2 at the half time break. A superb effort from Shane Robsco from thirty yards restored Taxis’ lead with twenty five minutes to go before Torr scored his hat-trick with a scuffed effort and then one off the post and in for the winner. It was a game the visitors deserved a point. Last season’s champions Wadsley Bridge Pheasant fell to their heaviest ever defeat at Brinsworth Whitehill as the visitors’ season continues to struggle. Ainsley Finney scored a hat-trick, whilst Cory Goodwin with two and Ross Johnson completed a 6-0 home rout. Leaders Redmires remain unbeaten after a 2-1 win at close challengers Woodhouse Angel, Mike Towey scoring Angel’s goal but strikes from Andy Bath and another superb free-kick from the talented Jon Wall securing the points for the visitors. Coel Fulton proved to be the hero for Norton Oaks “A” as they overcame Hallam 4-2 in a very entertaining game. Danny Reet opened the scoring for Norton with a finish into the bottom corner before Hothefya Gadour levelled almost immediately. The home side went 3-1 ahead thanks to two well taken headers from Kenny Brakes and Fulton. Gadour made it 3-2 with quarter of an hour left thanks to a well taken effort at the edge of the area but Fulton’s second; a one-on-one with the Hallam keeper; secured the points for Norton. Action from the game is below.
In a game that had plenty of chances for both teams, Civil Sports “A” got their first three point haul of the season with a 2-1 win at home to newly promoted Brinsworth Phoenix. Civil took the lead when Andrzej Gordon-Hides’ low cross was turned home by man of the match Josh Corker. Phoenix levelled in the second half when Josh Aston picked out Bradley Spencer and his header had enough power to beat Paul Billard in the home net. The winner came with twenty two minutes to go though, Corker’s brilliant corner and it was dependable captain Ben Brown who headed it in from close range. DIV 1 - Heald at the double to send Intake to the top - A Intake Old Boys go top of the table with a thrilling 3-2 win at home to Killamarsh Juniors who were just behind them on goal difference at the start of play. Shaun Higginbottom gave Intake the lead with a long range effort and then great play from Ben Sergeant set up Jack Heald to head home for Intake’s second. Joe Glover and Montelle Kamara levelled matters for the visitors before Tom Hall was fouled in the area for a penalty which Killamarsh keeper Simon Dye saved from Darren Robinson. However, Heald followed up and smashed the rebound into the net for the winner and his second of the game. Action From the game is below - pictures by Mick Moat.
Mitchell Savage (right) scored twice as Penistone Church made it two wins out of two; with a 4-0 home win over AFC George. Also on the scoresheet were George Orrell and the ever prolific Tim Council. George Sheen added the polish as Ecclesfield PL came from behind to beat Chapeltown RBL 3-1 at home. The visitors took the lead when home keeper Liam Boswell punched a corner from Matt Bruck into his own net. Missing nine regulars Ecclesfield levelled with a great half volley from Joe Knight before Sheen scored twice, once from the penalty spot, to give them the win and a great debut for left back Ryan Rafford who got man of the match. The game of the day in Division One occurred between Dale WMC and Southey Social, the two sides sharing eight goals. It was a tremendous effort from the visitors since they played 84 minutes with ten men. Dale’s goals coming from Sean Maloney, Stefan Rankine, a Jake Schofield penalty and a thirty yard screamer from central defender John Ledger which gained the home side a point. Southey scored thanks to a double from Danny Scarborough, Corey Theaker and Lewis Twibell although Dale were indebted to goalkeeper Hibberd who kept them in the game with a number of important saves. In the final Division One game, Woodseats Club were 1-0 down at half time when Ryan Lampkin headed in for Ranch. However, two goals in quick succession from Liam Bryon secured the win for the visitors . DIV 2 - Cobden Eight Crookes, while Bowland double keeps Sportsman top - Both the top two stayed there with wins this Sunday. Leaders Norton Sportsman were successful in a maximum point haul by beating The Shakey 6-2. Brad Bowland scored another brace for the visitors and there were singles from Mark Ferreday, Jack Waymouth, Ben Elmore and Chris Lewis – Shakey’s goals coming from Billy Hilbert and Joe Fothergill. Challengers Woodhouse Village went ahead when Ryan Simmonite headed home a Theo Wilson feed only for a home mix up allowed Cawthorne to equalise. The game winner came when Wilson crossed from the right and Andrew Saville bundled it home. Cobden View scored eight for the third league game as they overcame Crookes and District 8-1. The visitors led 5-0 at half time thanks to strikes from Aaron Ellis, Alex Butt, JP Rowland, Richard Higgins and Joe Taylor. Adam Beresford and Tim Pitt made it seven before Johnnie Butler pulled back a consolation for Crookes but Lee Mansell then added the eighth. Steelers got the first win of the season thanks to a third minute goal from Dane Appleby against a much changed Civil Sports “B” team . |

One of those came for Norton Oaks “A” as they came from behind to win 4-2 at Brampton Rovers. After falling behind to a contentious goal, Oaks were inspired by Jamie Marshall (right) to go in 3-1 to the good at half time. Marshall hit the perfect hat-trick to put his side in charge, Younes Mekhalfia added a fourth to put it beyond doubt before Brampton scored a second purely as a consolation late on. Kieran Goff was an inspirational man of the match as Brinsworth Phoenix also recorded a 4-2 win; this time away to Shireoaks. The home side took the lead early doors but Karl Fox equalised with a header from a pinpoint Jordan Pearce cross before putting his side ahead from the spot after Goff had been upended following a mazy run that took him past three home defenders. Shireoaks forced extra time but two classy finishes from Goff saw Phoenix into the next round; his second after a sweeping team move. Ainsley Finney got the only goal of the game as Brinsworth Whitehill overcame Cresswell Arms; finishing well after some good work by Cory Goodwin. Stannington Village are also through as they beat Sandhill Tavern 4-1 at Malin Bridge. Adam Todd (left) gave Village the lead when he slid home a Alex Torr cross but the visitors levelled before the break. Stannington regained the lead when Piers Bond’s cross was spilled and Shaun Flynn tapped home. A well taken finish from an acute angle into the roof of the net from Danny Smith made it 3-1 before Callum Pinhorn bent home a superb effort into the bottom corner for the pick of the bunch. Redmires received a bye after their planned opponents sadly ceased operations before a ball was kicked in anger, whilst FC Handsworth Turf were our only Senior Cup casualties. David Sills gave them the lead but visitors Thrybergh Top Club then scored four without reply to put themselves into the next round. SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - Penistone run riot as nine out of eleven through - In the Junior Cup, Tim Council was on the scoresheet again as Penistone Church romped to a 9-1 home win over Fairway White Rose. The striker hit five for the second successive day whilst a double from George Orrell, and singles from Scott Briggs and Gaz Brown completed the rout. Also scoring goals for fun were Chapeltown RBL as they won 8-2 at Sporting Wadworth. Inspired by a true captain’s performance by Danny Cardwell who scored twice (one a penalty), Chapeltown dominated the game from start to finish. Gavin Thorpe also got a couple thanks some fox in the box skills, whilst Joe Littlewood, a couple of own goals and Andy Varns made up the eight – the latter scoring after brilliant build up play by Louis Barnes and Joe Malone. Danny Barnett (right) scored four as Ecclesfield Players Lounge won 6-1 at home to Ravenfield Cavaliers; Scott Spazjer with the other two. Mark Turton led the way for Norton Oaks “B” as they disposed of Cross Keys Wath 5-0; the striker hitting a brace whilst single strikes from Matt Jessermino, Michael Peake and Nasa Meah ensured a nap hand. Nick Owen’s brace set Woodseats Club on the way too as they won 5-3 at Mosbororugh “B”, further goals from Bryan, Hague and Hoyland securing the win. Two goals from Stefan Rankine (left) helped his Dale WMC team into the next round, as they won 5-1 impressively against Upton Wrangbrook. He and Shannon Marsland put them two goals to the good after twenty minutes before Wrangbrook pulled one back. It remained close until the final quarter of an hour then Jordan Wathall curled home an exquisite goal for Dale’s third of the morning and two further goals in the final three minutes from Jake Schofield with a penalty and Rankine’s second of the game sealed the win. Crookes and District required extra time to see off Greasborough 5-3. Jordan Coates gave Crookes a tenth minute lead before Greasborough equalised from a home error on the half hour. Lew Hersay restored the lead just before the break and Crookes looked comfortably until a speculative shot levelled matters with quarter of an hour to go. Inspired by Gene Marsden, Crookes scored three times in the extra time period thanks to Johnnie Butler, Hersay’s second and Chris McNally. Greasborough scored their third from the spot just before the end but the home side were home and hosed by then. Colley are also through thanks to a hard working win 2-1 at FC Angel. Callum Cadman gave Colley the perfect start with a goal in the first ten minutes and it was doubled when the Angel goalkeeper fumbled Tom Fiddler’s corner into his own net. Angel pulled one back before the break and then pressured Colley but the visitors stood firm against the physical onslaught. Anthony Marshall could have secured a more comprehensive win but missed the penalty given following some great Andy Hill footwork. Oughtibridge are also through after Jack-in-a-Box “B” were unable to raise a side due to players being delayed by a motorway pile-up. Both Cobden View and Woodhouse Juniors exited but both in narrow fashion. Cobden went down 1-0 to Ingsfield Lane despite dominating the second half and seeing Tim Pitt miss a penalty kick. Woodhouse Juniors were even more unlucky, losing 5-4 after extra time at Stute FC. Adam Geelan scored twice, and single tallies from Josh Poulton and Henry Bradshaw were also on target for the visitors. CBC PREMIER - Hotheyfa leads Hallam charge up the table, while Husbands puts the Champs to the sword - There were only two games in the CBC Premier Division, and defending champions Wadsley Bridge Pheasant are still looking for that winning feeling again after Woodhouse Angel defeated them 3-1 at Chaucer School. Last season’s CBC Premier top scorer Mitch Husbands (right) gave Angel an early lead only for Dylan Parrott to equalise just before half time. Jordan Rymell restored Angel’s lead when the visitors caught the champions on the break and a Husbands penalty secured the three points. Hothefya Gadour scored a hat-trick in the other CBC Premier Division game as Hallam came away from City Taxis with a 5-1 away win. Gadour scored twice in the first half, his second a delightful headed lob over the home defender and a keeper who was way off his line. Julian Lawrence’s goal reduced the arrears at half time for an under strength Taxis before the visitors went nap in the second half to run out easy winners, Miles Howarth, Jack Waddle and Gadour’s hat-trick goal completing an impressive away victory. DIV 1 - Adam's the apple of Intake's eye - Inspired by Adam Clayton, Intake Old Boys went second in the Division One table after a 6-2 away win at AFC George. Clayton got his first after an unselfish cutback from Tom Hall before a two Michael Blythen goals put George ahead. Hall set up Clayton to level matters on half time before the visitors turned the screw in the second half. Further goals from Clayton (two, one a penalty), Joe Wallace and a superbly executed header by Daniel Meadows saw the Old Boys home. Action from the game is below:
In the other game Brendan Drew gave Southey the lead at Killamarsh Juniors but second half goals from Danny Phoenix and Chris Challenger, the winner following a Jimmy Savage corner, gave the hosts the points.. DIV 2 - The top two hit stalemate, while Cadbury stun Civil - In Division Two’s top of the table game, Norton Sportsman and Woodhouse Village shared a scoreless but entertaining draw. Both sides had chances through and hit each other’s woodwork but it was a fair result according to both teams. Also scoreless were The Shakey and Woodseats Chantrey, Russ Cawthorne hitting the post with the away team’s best chance. And finally, Cadbury got their first win of the season: 2-1 at Civil Sports “B”. Goals from Kelly and Vella had them 2-0 up in ten minutes before George Ancell pulled one back. Civil upped the intensity after this but couldn’t breach the Cadbury defence again and their misery was compounded when Alex Knight missed a penalty kick. |
6 OCT - Shakey on the look out for more players - The Shakey is on the look out for more players. They have a good set-up at the Caribbean Sports Ground and good backroom staff. Anyone interested should contact the Shakey secretary Jimmy Collins on 07926400719. |
4 OCT - LEAGUE TWENTYTWO CUP - Holders Pheasant face Stannington test in one of three all CBC Premier ties - The Sheffield Star's James Shield (right) and the Yorkshire Post's Richard Sutcliffe (left) made the draw for Round 3 of the Blades Super Draw League Twentytwo Cup at Bramall Lane tonight and it saw three all CBC Premier ties, including a repeat of last season's semi final between holders Wadsley Bridge Pheasant at home to former holders Stannington Village. The other all CBC Premier ties saw City Taxis drawn at home to FC Handsworth Tiurf and Redmires at home to Brinsworth Whitehill. CBC Premier Woodhouse Angel are at home to former holders, Division One, Ecclesfield Players Lounge and another Division One side facing CBC Premier opponents is AFC George at home to Norton Oaks A. The full draw is: AFC George v Norton Oaks A; City Taxis v FC Handsworth Turf; Penistone Church v Ranch; Redmires v Brinsworth Whitehill; Wadsley Bridge Pheasant v Stannington Village; Woodhouse Angel v Ecclesfield PL; Woodhouse JFC v Killamarsh Juniors; Woodseats Club v Norton Sportsman. All ties to be played on Sunday 6 Nov with an 11 am kick-off. |
1 OCT - Referees for League games on 9 Oct now added to Fixtures - Now that the County FA has told us which referees have been taken for Sunday Cup ties on 9 Oct, we can confirm that the referees for the League games on 9 Oct are now listed in the Fixtures section. The home team should contact the referees ASAP to confirm the details. 2 OCT - TWENTYTWO CUP - Hallam falter at Church, while Andy gives Civil an early Bath - The only minor shock in Round 2 of the League TwentyTwo Cup saw another Tim Council goal set Division One Penistone Church on the road to their victory over CBC Premier Hallam, and although Adam Cawood levelled matters for Hallam, Callum Lee got the winner for a Church that reached the semi finals last season. They say a player always comes back to haunt his old team, and Andy Bath (left) certainly sunk his old Civil Sports teammates with four in an 8-2 win. The striker scored after just two minutes but Josh Corker’s superb through ball put Civil Man of the Match Thomas Bamford in to hammer an unstoppable leveller home. Bath scored his second and Jon Wall’s low drive made it 3-1 before Bath completed his treble before half-time. Ben Palmer’s chip made it 5-1, Wall also added two more only for Bath to score the eighth whilst Andrzej Gordon-Hides notched a mere consolation. Current holders Wadsley Bridge Pheasant made good progress into round three. Shane Andrews and Dylan Parrott had them 2-0 at half time against second division high flyers Woodhouse Village. With their opponents pushing for an opening, Pheasant made it secure when Kane Doughty’s deflected shot found its way home in the final seconds. Despite their defeat at the holders special praise should go to Woodhouse Village who decided to still play the game despite hearing about the death of one of mum of one of their players, the former landlady of the George pub at Woodhouse. Village and Pheasant held a minutes silence before their tie (see picture right), as did AFC George and Cadbury before Andy Hartley’s only goal of the game gave George victory. Lee Johnstone’s volley gave Stannington Village the lead at a plucky Southey Social before Adam Todd rounded the keeper to make it two. Byron Mullen’s penalty pulled one back but Stannington could have won more convincingly if they hadn’t hit the woodwork numerous times, Alex Torr with three attempts alone. Another CBC Premier side that was pushed hard was City Taxis and just a single Elliott Coles strike gave them victory over Division One Intake Old Boys. 2015 Cup holders Oughtibridge WM are out, with a 7-1 home loss inflicted on them by fellow Division One side Killamarsh Juniors. Joe Glover was the main protagonist with a hat-trick whilst Matt Steade with two, Chris Savage and Montelle Kamara completed the tally – Matt Dodd with Oughtibridge’s sole response. Two goals from Jonathan Williams were enough to help see off Norton Oaks “B” 4-1; Chris Towey and Lewis Worrall also on target whilst Nasa Meah’s superb volley was scant reward for a battling home performance. In the Brinsworth derby, Whitehill are still holding the bragging rights after winning 4-3 against neighbours Phoenix. Ainsley Finney and Cory Goodwin both scored at the double in the first half before Jack Hawkes netted to make 4-1 at half time with a long range effort. Phoenix’s Man of the Match Jordan Pearce and another shot from distance from Hawkes made it 4-3 but there was no fourth goal to force extra time. Extra time was needed though for Ecclesfield Players Lounge to overcome Cobden View 3-0; George Sheen with a brace and one from Scott Spazjer. It had been 0-0 after ninety minutes play where both Joe Knight and Scott Touhey (left) made their hundredth and three hundred and fifty appearances respectively for Ecclesfield. Goals from Ryan Goodinson and the inspirational James Leesley saw FC Handsworth Turf win 2-0 at Chapeltown RBL; whilst Norton Oaks “A” won by the odd goal in seven at Colley. A rare Paul Knapton goal gave the visitors the lead only for Anthony Marshall to level. Two from Danny Reet (one a penalty) and a Matt Lawrie header made it 4-1 by the break. Marshall’s second and Steve Dickinson made it 3-4. Colley deserved to take it to extra time and had an equaliser chalked off for offside in the final minutes which could have made it more interesting indeed. One man who couldn't lose today was Andy Rogers (right). He saved Woodseats WMC from oblivion and has since gone on to sponsor two of our sides that run from the club - Woodseats Club and Dale WMC. They were drawn to play each other and it was Nick Owen’s four goal salvo that sent Woodseats Club into the next round with 4-1 home win over Dale WMC for whom Sam Roberts netted a consolation strike.Action from the game is below - pictures by Mick Moat.
Two from Kieran Sykes-Tobin helped Woodhouse Juniors on the right track as they overcame fellow Division Two side The Shakey 5-0; Henry Bradshaw, Tom Howard and Adam Wragg ensuring the home side went nap. Norton Sportsman are also through to the last sixteen thanks to a 4-1 win over a fellow Division two side, Crookes and District. Danny Rogers, a brilliant 25 yard screamer from James Archer and Will Warhurst made it 3-0 at the interval and Josh Furness added a fourth against a visiting side that never let their heads drop and Jordan Coates scored them a well-earned consolation. DIV 2 - Phillips turns the screw on Chantrey - In Division Two’s only game, David Firth’s Civil Sports B team made it two wins in succession with an impressive 4-1 home victory against Woodseats Chantrey. Jed Phillips scored a hat-trick for Civil whilst Alex Knight notched the other and Scott Green scored Chantrey’s only goal. |
