31-Mar - DIVISION 2 - Devonshire close up on the leaders, but George are held back by Steelers - Devonshire are now just three points behind the Division Two leaders after a Chris Lees (right) double helped them to a 6-0 victory over Woodhouse JFC. Lees first and a Sam Read goal gave Devonshire a two goal lead and Woodhouse's cause wasn't helped when they were reduced to ten men just before half time. Lees made it three, but Woodhouse were making it hard for them and it wasn't until the last five minutes that Whitaker, Owen and McWilliam added their others. AFC George's promotion bid took a knock though when Steelers came from two goals down to hold them to a 2-2 draw. Gareth Scarlett and James Arthur gave George their two goal lead, but with twenty minutes remaining Steelers made a tactical change and began to press George back. That pressure was rewarded when a George defender turned the ball into his own goal and Steelers took the point they deserved when Jordan Meadows smashed the ball home from close range. Norton Oaks made it four wins on the bounce with a 2-1 victory at Top Club. Goals from Matt Jessermino and Richard Pearson proved to be just too much for Top Club's goal from Jirabi Nicodemus. 27 Mar - CBC PREMIER - Angel hit back to go level at the top and Ellis treble keeps The Vine in the title hunt, but champs stunned by Brinsworth - Mike Towey (left) netted twice as Woodhouse Angel came from two down to beat Redmires 4-3 and go level with leaders Wadsley Bridge Pheasant. Missing a few players due to holidays and work, it didn't look good for Angel when Redmires' Dave Knaggs set up two goals for Mikey Taylor. Angel responded and when Mitch Husbands whipped in a cross Mike Towey volleyed home to pull one back, but Redmires restored their two goal advantage before the break when Ben Palmer headed home at the near post from a Jon Wall corner. Angel started the second half in determined fashion and pulled one back when the CBC Premier's leading scorer Husbands hit one from thirty yards that arrowed into the bottom corner. Angel then hit the woodwork twice before equalising when a Husbands corner was met with a bullet header for Towey's second of the game. Angel pushed hard, but it looked like Redmires would hold out until a mistake in the final minute allowed Jordan Rymell to hit Angel's winner at the second attempt. The Vine stayed in the CBC Premier title hunt as skipper Matt Ellis (right) hit all their goals in a 3-0 victory over Southey Social. Rikki Davidson got away down the right before crossing for Ellis to head his first and he quickly added his second after Liam Allott and Brent Heeley had combined to set up the chance for him. The Vine continued to dominate in the second half and Ellis made certain his side would take the points by completing his hat-trick. Reigning champions Stannington Village's hopes of retaining the title took a massive blow with a 3-1 home defeat by Brinsworth Whitehill. The visitors took a half time lead when Ainsley Finney found space in the box to fire home and after the break they doubled their lead when Matt Claxton headed home from a Danny Willis free kick. Ross Johnson and Joe McGuiness both missed good chances to increase Brinsworth's lead and it looked as if those misses might prove costly when Dean Jepson scored a terrific goal to pull one back for Stannington. They needn't have worried though as it wasn't too long before Willis's through ball allowed Johnson to go one on one with the keeper and calmly score Brinsworth's third. Oughtibridge WM boosted their survival hopes as Danny Clinton (left) treble against one of his former clubs helped them to a 6-1 victory over Norton Oaks A. Centre half David Buckley opened the scoring with a nice finish after an Aidy Tomlin flick on, but the lead was cancelled out by a Liam Paterson header from a Stevie Mann cross. Oughtibridge went back in front when Tomlin headed home from a Tom Fletcher cross and Clinton grabbed his first two before the break. The second half saw Clinton complete his hat-trick before Callum Simms volleyed home to complete the scoring. DIVISION 1 - Phoenix receive trophy in style, while the three behind them all win - On the day that Phoenix were presented with this season's Division One title trophy they celebrated completing their successful season with a 3-1 victory over Intake Old Boys. Skipper Josh Aston set up Nicky Shaw to tap home his nineteenth league goal to put Phoenix ahead and Shaw then turned provider when he unselfishly squared the ball for Richard Honeyman to net his first of the season. Matt Hunter pulled one back for Intake, but after hitting both the post and bar Phoenix made it safe when Evan Watson went on a Ryan Giggs style solo run before hitting an unstoppable shot in off a post. Action from the game is shown below - pictures by Mick Moat. Also shown is a picture of the new champions.
Who goes up with Phoenix now looks to be any two from three after victories for the three clubs directly behind them. Eamae Gadour gave Hallam the lead at Chapeltown RBL with a shot across keeper Tom Duty, but Gadour's day took a down turn minutes later when he was shown a red card. Chapeltown RBL took advantage to equalise early in the second half with a Josh Savage strike, but Hallam's ten men dug in and Callum Frain netted them an unlikely winner that keeps them in second place and as good as ends Chapeltown's promotion hopes. Scott Whittington (right) scored both goals as Ecclesfield Players Lounge won 2-0 at a Loxley that now look to be outsiders for promotion. After Ecclesfield missed several chances to take the lead, Whittington finally managed their breakthrough and with Mark Groves solid at the back they never looked like conceding. They even had the luxury of a penalty miss by Andy Baxter before Whittington made it safe with his second. The third club in the race is City Taxis after their 5-1 win at a Hare & Hounds that had held them to a draw the week before. It took just a minute for Jordan Marshall to head Taxis in front and another header from Scott Westney doubled their lead midway through the first half. Marshall was on target a second time in the second half before Phil Yeardley tapped home taxis fourth. Dale Wood's first of the season made it five before George Rudd grabbed a late consolation for a Hounds side three points from safety. DIVISION 2 - Penistone given a scare, while an Owen treble keeps Devonshire in touch and Killamarsh get vital victory over George - Despite another Tim Council (left) treble, Division Two leaders Penistone Church were given a real scare by Woodhouse Juniors before Penistone scraped home 4-2. Council's first two came in the first half and he completed his hat-trick a minute after the break. Church then seemed to relax too much and Woodhouse stunned them with two quick goals from Dave Gilchrist and Salim Hussain. That had Church rocking, but they held on and made it safe with a Callum Lee strike in the final minute. There was no such drama for second place Devonshire as Nicky Owen (right) took his season's tally to twenty one with three in a comfortable 7-0 win at Top Club. Keith Cronin, Russ Westby, Mark Hopkinson and an own goal completed the scoring for Devonshire. Killamarsh Juniors are back into the top three after a Montelle Kamara double helped them to a vital victory at promotion rivals AFC George. Michael Blythen and Gareth Scarlett goals had George 2-1 up at the break, but with Jack Stanley holding their defence in the second half it belonged to Killamarsh and as well as Kamara's second, Jon Packman, Joe Glover and Chris Challenger strikes saw them comfortably home. Ollie West netted a last minute winner as Norton Oaks B kept their good run going with a 1-0 victory at a Civil Service B that can count themselves unlucky not to take a share of the spoils, while Steelers climbed two places with a convincing 7-1 win at Crookes & District. Steelers goals came from two each for Leighton Buck, Dave Kean and Fraser Oxley - both from the penalty spot - and one from Kaiden Simpson, while Crookes consolation came from Say Lwehid.

Dave Wragg - The League was very saddened to hear of the passing of former Handsworth Old Boys secretary Dave Wragg yesterday. The way Dave ran the Old Boys was an example to most clubs and he helped the League in other ways, providing rooms for meetings and events at the Handsworth WMC and ball boys at many of our Cup Finals at Bramall Lane. Dave was instrumental in the rise of Handsworth Juniors and all football in the area has lost a very good friend. Dave is pictured right collecting one of Handsworth Old Boys' Merit Awards from Wednesday manager at the time, Brian Laws. We pass our condolences on to all his family and friends. Below is Handsworth Turf and Woodhouse Angel paying their respects to Dave before their game today.
20 Mar - SUNDAY CUPS - Double semi final disappointment - A weakened The Vine side went out of the Sunday Senior Cup semi final 4-0 to favourites Westville of Rotherham. The Vine had the first chance when Matt Ellis played Lou Jackson in, but he shot over. The Vine keeper Andrew Taylor made a wonder save to keep a first shot out, but the rebound fell kindly for the Westville striker and they went ahead. The second half started with a Pip Miskell shot that looked certain to equalise until the Westville keeper got his fingertips to it. Westville grabbed a second, but Liam Allott almost pulled one back soon after. Jackson went close again with a header, but the home side sealed their place in the final with two further goals. The League's grip on the Sunday Junior Cup was lost after Devonshire was beaten in a penalty shoot-out by near neighbours Bagshawe Arms. A goalmouth scramble saw Bagshawe take an early lead, but Devonshire levelled ten minutes later when a corner was headed home by Jordan Hague. After the break a smart turn and finish by Nick Owen gave Devonshire the lead, but Bagshawe levelled when Devonshire keeper Adam Banks made a great save, but the loose ball was tapped home. The game stayed at 2-2 through the rest of normal and extra time, so it went to a penalty shoot-out and it was Bagshawe that came out on top. Action from the game is below - pictures by Mick Moat.
CBC PREMIER - Pheasant smash Southey , while Williams treble lifts Angel to second - Wadsley Bridge Pheasant increased their lead at the top of the CBC Premier to three points with a 10-1 victory over Southey Social. Pheasant took just a minute to take the lead through Adam Askwith (right) and their lead was doubled when Dylan Parrott was brought down in the area and he picked himself up to score from the spot. Askwith hit his second just before half time and after the break Dean Williamson made it four. More goals from Lewis Fothergill, Danny Barnsley with two and Luke Beedham quickly followed to make it eight before Parrott scored his second. Andy Dawson made it ten before Todd Guest hit a late consolation for Southey. Woodhouse Angel kept up the chase and moved up to second as Brad Williams (left) hit three in their 5-0 victory at Handsworth Turf. After Jordan Rymell had missed one chance he made amends when he converted a pass from Mike Towey. A mazy run by Towey was only stopped by a foul just outside the box, but Mitch Husbands hit a superb free kick to score his nineteenth goal of the season and double the lead. After the break Williams hit his first with a thirty yard piledriver into the top corner and his second came when he controlled a cross from Rymell before beating the keeper. A hand ball in the area gave Angel a penalty and normal taker Husbands handed over the responsibility to Williams to give him his hat-trick. Redmires eased their relegation fears with a 3-1 victory at an Oughtibridge Village now ten points from safety. A terrific strike by Strachan Sampson from the edge of the area gave Oughtibridge a half time lead and it was nearly doubled when Danny Clinton shot narrowly wide, but the second half belonged to Redmires. Danny Turner headed home from a Paul Vickers cross to level the scores and they went ahead when sub Andy Bath hit a left foot shot into the bottom corner. Bath turned provider for the third when his cross was flicked home by Jon Wall. Action from the game is below - pictures by Ian Revitt
Civil Service A are also in trouble after allowing Brinsworth Whitehill to come from two down to draw with them. Josh Corker's low strike into the bottom corner gave Civil the lead and when the keeper brought down Thomas Bamford in the area, Gary Eades stepped up to double their lead. Brinsworth had twice forced saves from Tom Clapton headers and they pulled one back when Ross Johnson rounded the keeper to score. Their equaliser came when Danny Willis was brought down in the area and Ainsley Finney scored from the spot. DIVISION 1 - Phoenix take the title after Taxis are held by Hounds, while Intake stop Loxley's charge - Phoenix finally took the Division One title this weekend and they did it without kicking a ball as the only team that could catch them, City Taxis, were held to a draw by Hare & Hounds, although that point for Hounds wasn't enough to stop them sliding into the bottom three. Taxis had to win all their remaining games to have any chance of catching Phoenix, but it didn't start well and it was Hounds that deservedly took the lead on when a Jake Schofield diagonal ball across the box eluded the Taxis defence leaving top scorer George Rudd his easiest tap-in of the season. Although Taxis were breaking swiftly from defence, their final ball was too often over hit to cause Hound's keeper, Mas Rankine, any serious trouble. Taxis mounted more sustained pressure in the second half, which also left their defence exposed; the game could have swung either way, but Taxis equalised with twenty minutes remaining well finished strike by Phil Yeardley after narrowly beating the offside trap. Stef Rankine and Rudd both wasted good chances to restore Hounds lead before Schofield blazed a bullet of a shot into near post only to see it blocked and cleared. With added time running down, the inevitable happened. Rankine beat a fierce shot out at the near post only for it to fall kindly to Jordan Marshall, who bounced it back to seemingly win it for Taxis, but immediately from the kick off, makeshift full back Liam Hogg launched a desperate cross-cum-shot to the back post, which looped over all twenty players into the back corner of the net for the draw Hounds' performance deserved. Taxis result allowed Ecclesfield Players Lounge to go back into the top three with a 2-1 victory at a Chapeltown RBL that would have gone above them had they won. Chapeltown went ahead when Ecclesfield defender Dean Foreman turned the ball into his own net under pressure from Liam Gibson, but George Sheen soon levelled for Ecclesfield and they took a half time lead with a Joe Knight (right) strike. The second half saw both sides miss good chances to score, but no one managed it and Ecclesfield held on to their promotion hopes. Ecclesfield's chances were helped by Intake Old Boys having a surprise 1-0 victory at promotion chasing Loxley. What turned out to be the winning goal came just before half time when a Thomas Hall shot took a deflection off Josh Jones past the Loxley keeper. Loxley had plenty of pressure in the second half, but couldn't find a way past a well organised Intake defence. Ranch gave their chances of avoiding the drop a boost as Conner Brunt (left) scored five in an 8-0 win over an Aston Swallownest now thirteen points from safety with just six games remaining. Ranch's other goals came from Mikey Thomas, Jakob Burgin and Ash Betts. DIVISION 2 - Penistone extend their lead, while George get a vital victory over Cobden - George Orrell with two and one each for Tim Council, Lewis Dickinson and Tom Adams saw Penistone Church extend their lead at the top of Division Two with a 5-0 victory at Woodseats Chantrey. AFC George are now one of the firm favourites to take one of the promotion places after a Chris Blythen goal gave them victory against third place Cobden View. Killamarsh Juniors stayed in contention as goals from Chris Savage, Montelle Kamara, Joe Glover and sub Jon Packman gave them a 4-0 home win over Top Club. Norton Oaks A's good run continued with a goalless draw at Steelers, while a Nick Mulgrew hat-trick and one each from Dimitri White and Ryan Freeman saw Woodhouse Juniors come back to win 5-1 after Joe Taylor had given Civil Service B the lead. |
13 Mar - KITLOCKER CUP - The Vine love Liam Allott, while Pheasant pip Stannington - The Blades Super Draw League Kitlocker Cup will have a new name on the trophy after this season's semi finals at the HSBC Sports ground saw The Vine and Wadsley Bridge Pheasant go through with both ties going to extra time before they were settled. After losing in all four previous semi final appearances, The Vine, with the help of two Liam Allott strikes, twice came from behind to beat Division Two Penistone Church leaders 3-2 to finally reach Bramall Lane. Penistone got off to the perfect start when Brad Kemp fed Mitch Savage and he beat the keeper from the edge of the area with the game barely a minute old. The Vine almost levelled a minute later when Pip Miskell rattled the crossbar, but in the tenth minute they did get level when keeper Andrew Taylor's long clearance found Pip Miskell and his chip was flicked on by Matt Ellis for Liam Allott to beat a defender before rounding keeper James Birch and rolling the ball into the empty net. Allott went close to grabbing his second a couple of minutes later, but although both sides went close they stayed level until the break. The second half started exactly the same as the first half as Savage again put Penistone in front with the half barely a minute old and they had The Vine rocking. Tim Council, Tom Almond, Brad Kemp and George Orrell all had good chances to extend the lead, but good defending and good goalkeeping by Taylor kept The Vine in the game. The Vine levelled a second time when subs Jonathan Riley and Danny Seaman linked up to find Ellis and his pass allowed man of the match Lou Jackson to fire home. That took the game into extra time and although both sides had half chances it wasn't until five minutes before the end that Ellis found Allott and he raced through the tiring Penistone defence to round keeper Birch a second time and fire home. The Vine defence had a couple of scary moments after that but they held on to finally reach the final at Bramall Lane at their fifth attempt. It also sets them up nicely for next weekend's Sunday Senior Cup semi final at Rotherham side Westville. The Teams: The Vine: Andrew Taylor, Christian Nixon, William Blakeney, Lou Jackson, Craig Woolley, Jonathan Riley, Daniel Seaman, Joe France, Rikki Davidson, Matthew Ellis, Liam Allott, Michael Golland, Karl Ainsworth, Steven Wilkinson, Brent Heeley, Phil Miskell Penistone Church: James Birch, Callum Lee, Ben Matthews, Lewis Dickinson, John Whitehead, Ross Nettleton, Thomas Almond, Mitchell Savage, Timothy Council, Bradley Kemp, George Orrell, Gareth Brown, Tom Adams, Joe Wadsworth, Daniel Howes, Joe Cross Action from the game is below - pictures by Mark Rodgers and Mick Moat
The CBC Premier's top two, Wadsley Bridge Pheasant and Stannington Village met in the other semi and just like their two league meetings in February, it was won by Pheasant, 2-1. The game started at a frantic pace and after Alex Torr had blasted Stannington's first chance over the bar, but he had to give way soon after due to a pulled hamstring. Pheasant began to threaten and they took the lead when a free kick into the penalty area wasn't cleared properly and Adam Askwith hammered the loose ball through a crowd of legs past Stannington keeper Nathan Ryan. Stannington responded and after a couple of half chances were wasted they grabbed a deserved equaliser when a Bill Green cross was volleyed home at the near post by Dean Jepson. The second half saw Stannington continue to have more of the ball and they almost took the lead when Adam Todd hit the underside of the bar with Pheasant keeper Shannon Melia beaten. Melia and Todd were then involved in controversy when referee Jack Hall waved away Stannington's penalty claims when Todd went down as Melia dived for the ball at his feet. The game went into extra time and again it was Stannington that went close when full back Aaron Worsfold hit the post from twenty five yards. The winning goal came soon after when a free kick was handled by a Stannington defender in the area and Dylan Parrot stepped up to hammer the ball past Ryan into the roof of the net. Stannington pressed for an equaliser and Jack Ridge had one effort disallowed before Todd let a chance get away from him. Danny Smith went through in the final minute but his shot from a tight angle was straight at Melia. The Teams: Wadsley Bridge Pheasant: Shannon Melia, Scott Bingley, Carl Andrews, Jonathan Wragg, Kane Doughty, Darren Antcliffe, Shane Andrews, Andrew Dawson, Adam Askwith, Dylan Parrott, Craig Mawhood, Sam Barker, Daniel Barnsley, Reece James, Joel Evans, Luke Beedham Stannington Village: Nathan Ryan, Aaron Worsfold, Ben Cook, Callum Pinhorn, Dan Green, Dean Jepson, Cory Mann, Lee Johnstone, Alex Torr, Daniel Smith, William Green, Adam Todd, Robin Elliott, Shaun Flynn, Jack Ridge, John Grayson Action from the game is below - pictures by Mark Rodgers and Mick Moat
CBC PREMIER - Oughtibridge put a dent in Angel's title hopes, while Turf go third and a Paterson treble keeps Oaks climbing - Woodhouse Angel missed the chance to go second even though two late goals snatched them a 2-2 draw against second bottom Oughtibridge WM. After a goalless first half the second period saw Mitch Husbands hit the bar for Angel and Ross Brown do the same for Oughtibridge. Danny Clinton then went close from a Charlie Tunnard cross for Oughtibridge and they took a deserved lead when Tunnard hit a terrific strike from just inside the area. Angel responded with Johno Williams forcing a great save out of the Oughtibridge keeper, but a swift counter attack saw Clinton grab a second for Oughtibridge. Angel were finding it hard to break down the Oughtibridge defence, but with just five minutes remaining Williams drilled a shot across the keeper into the bottom corner to pull one back. Angel now poured forward and an equaliser came when Williams cross-field ball found Chris Towey ghosting in between a defender and the keeper to score from close range. A single Harry Johnson goal in the first half was enough for FC Handsworth Turf to beat Redmires and climb above Angel into third, while a second half goal from Gary Eades was enough for Civil Service A to beat Southey Social. The win boosted Civil's chances of avoiding the drop, but confirmed Southey's relegation. A Liam Paterson hat-trick helped Norton Oaks A continue their good form with a 4-2 victory at Brinsworth Whitehill. Paterson's first two came either side of a Danny Willis strike to give Oaks a half time lead. Ross Johnson then got a second equaliser for Brinsworth, but Oaks went back in front when Alan Mowforth scored at the second attempt after his first effort had hit the post.. Paterson then made the points safe for Oaks when he crashed the ball home after a flick on by Coel Fulton. DIVISION 1 - Phoenix Savage Hallam to clinch promotion, but Taxis stay in title hunt and Loxley climb to fifth - Dale Savage scored twice as Division One leaders Phoenix clinched promotion to the top flight for the first time with a 4-2 victory over second place Hallam. Hallam knew they had to win this one if they wanted to lift the title and they put their visitors under severe pressure for the first ten minutes, but a quick counter saw Kieran Goff produce a slide rule pass for Dale Savage to coolly beat the keeper for his eleventh goal of the season. Hallam hit back and levelled the scores when Adam Cawood headed home from a corner, but Phoenix went back in front when Jordan Pearce, Evan Watson and Goff all combined to give Savage the chance to score his second of the game. Hallam equalised a second time just before the break with Callum Frain's first of the season, but after the break it was Phoenix that took charge again and when the keeper brought Goff down in the area it allowed Nicky Shaw to score his twentieth goal of the season from the spot. Phoenix's victory and promotion was assured when Goff capped his man of the match performance with an audacious lob over the keeper. If Phoenix can win their final game of the season at Intake Old Boys later this month it will see them promoted as champions. Third place City Taxis kept their title hopes alive with a 3-0 victory at Ranch. Jordan Marshall got the scoring underway with a tap-in before Ben Birtles headed home their second. Victory was then assured when Jason Hopwood hit a terrific drive into the top corner. Ecclesfield Players Lounge stayed in the promotion race with a narrow 2-1 victory over Hare & Hounds. After a goalless first half, Hounds veteran keeper, Mas Rankine gifted Ecclesfield the lead when he let George Sheen's tame shot somehow squirm through both hands and both legs. Hounds equalised five minutes later when Jake Schofield curled a free kick into the top corner and it looked as though Hound's depleted squad might salvage a point, but Ecclesfield were not to be denied and with just eight minutes remaining Hounds failed to stop Mark Groves getting in a right wing cross and Sheen touched the ball to Joe Knight for an easy tap-in winner. Loxley are also still in the reckoning after their narrow 2-1 win at Aston Swallownest. A difficult pitch made it hard work for both sides, but it was relegation strugglers Aston that got their noses in front through leading scorer David Sills. Loxley introduced Anthony Marshall to the game after the break and from his pass Steve Dickinson was brought down in the area and Tim Pitt confidently hit home the penalty to level the scores. The winner came when Josh Delaney drove in a free kick from the touchline and defender Tom Wilson powered though a crowd to head home. Liam Gibson hit a quick-fire hat-trick as Chapeltown RBL moved away from danger with a 4-2 victory at Intake Old Boys and so tight is the table behind the leaders, that Chapeltown could still get into the promotion shake-up, while Intake are now looking over their shoulders at the teams near the bottom. John Higgins hit an absolute belter from thirty five yards to give Intake a half time lead, but Gibson turned the game on it's head after the break with three goals in ten minutes - the third coming after he left four defenders in his wake. Victory was sealed for Chapeltown when sub Gav Thorpe smashed home, making Tom Hall's late goal for Intake little consolation. DIVISION 2 - Devonshire climb to second, but George let it slip at Chantrey - Lewis Whittaker's only goal of the game saw Devonshire win at Killamarsh Juniors to climb up to second in Division Two, but AFC George's title hopes took a blow when they let a two goal lead slip in their 2-2 draw at Woodseats Chantrey. Michael Blythen hit his thirty first league goal of the season to put George ahead and they looked to be in command when Daryl Marsden grabbed their second, but Chantrey were given a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty, tucked away by veteran Stephen Morris and they grabbed a surprise, but deserved, equaliser when Brendan Wilson hit a screamer from the edge of the area. Nasa Meah scored twice in Norton Oaks B's 4-0 win at Crookes & District. The Oaks keeper had to make a save as Crookes had the early pressure, but once Billy Ireland took advantage of a defensive error to put Oaks ahead they began to take charge. Meah added two more and Chris Pigott netted the fourth to make it three wins out of five for Oaks. |
6 Mar - CBC PREMIER - Norton run into Torr-uble, while Husbands wins it for Angel and The Vine leave it late - Alex Torr hit a hat-trick as second place Stannington Village ended Norton Oaks A's unbeaten run in the CBC Premier with a 7-2 victory over them. When Torr was brought down early in the game, Stannington were awarded a penalty, but they missed their third penalty in two games when Torr put his spot kick wide. It wasn't long before Torr made up for his miss to put Stannington ahead. Shaun Flynn sent Adam Todd away and his inch perfect cross was neatly put away by Torr, but they weren't ahead for long as Richard Conway poked home Norton's equaliser from a corner. Just before half time Stannington regained the lead when Dean Jepson headed home from a Lee Johnstone cross and soon after the break Torr netted his second after leaving three defenders bemused. A long throw by Aaron Worsfold found Torr and he cut inside to blast into the top corner to complete his hat-trick. Coel Fulton pulled one back for Norton, but Jack Ridge (right) riddled his way past two defenders to hit Stannington's fifth. Robin Elliott netted their sixth before Ridge scored his second when he chased down a clearance and the ball ricocheted into the net for number seven. Up to third is Woodhouse Angel after a Mitch Husbands (left) treble saw their ten men just come out on top 4-3 at Southey Social. Angel began where they left off last week after they comfortably beat the Southey 5-0, with Jordan Rymell opening the scoring for Angel with a well taken goal from a slide-rule pass from the games outstanding player Mitch Husbands. Husbands quickly doubled the lead and then hit his second after a great mazy run from deep and leaving the Southey defence in his wake before a great finish low and hard that left the keeper with no chance. The game changed on its head soon after when Angel's Johno Williams needlessly handled the ball on the goal line as Southey's Christian Rowe looked to turn the ball home and referee Alan Streets awarded the penalty and showed Williams the red card. Joel Askham stepped up to slot the ball home and soon after the break Southey made their extra man count when Christian Rowe found space twenty five yards out to turn his man and smash a screamer into the top right hand corner. Soon after Southey moved the ball well again and found Todd Guest who placed the ball first time into the far corner to draw his side level. Southey then started to rush on the ball to get the winner but Angel looked the more dangerous on the break with just a couple of minutes remaining when the Southey defence could only clear the ball straight to Husbands near the far touch line his mazy run turned the Southey defence inside out until he unleashed an unstoppable left foot shot into the far top left corner for the winner and his hat-trick. Up to fourth is The Vine after they twice came from behind to beat Brinsworth Whitehill 4-3. The Vine got off to a good start and took the lead when Mike Golland crossed from the left for Rikki Davidson to beat the keeper to the ball and head across for Matt Ellis to tap home. Brinsworth hit back and from a Danny Willis corner Ryan Watson levelled with a bullet header and they went in front from another Willis corner, flicked home at the near post by Ross Johnson. After the break The Vine levelled when man of the match Pip Miskell linked up with Jonathan Riley to cross for substitute Lou Jackson to head home, but they fell behind again when Ainsley Finney cut in from the left to find the bottom corner. With five minutes remaining Davidson beat his man down the right and crossed for Ellis to head home to make it 3-3 and it looked like that would be the result when The Vine's Liam Allott missed a great chance with time almost up, but in the final minute Davidson went through one on one with the keeper and although he shot straight at the keeper, Jackson followed up to calmly slot home to win it. DIVISION 1 - Gadour brothers boost Hallam as Phoenix and Taxis draw, while Ranch go goal crazy - Eimae and Hothryfa Gadour were both on target as Hallam beat Aston Swallownest 4-1 to close the gap on Division One leaders Phoenix after they let a two goal lead slip to draw 2-2 with third place City Taxis. Eimae Gadour (right) gave Hallam an early lead with a strike from the edge of the area and although David Sills levelled for Aston when he curled the ball past Hallam's stand-in keeper Chris Waddle, Hallam regained their lead on the stroke of half time with Miles Howarth's eighth of the season. The second half was dominated by Hallam and Hothefya Gadour scored twice to seal the win. Although City Taxis had the better of the early exchanges it was Phoenix that took the lead when skipper Josh Aston lobbed the ball over the keeper from thirty five yards. Taxis continued to have more of the game, but they were caught on the break a second time and Jack Hawkes scored for a third successive game to double Phoenix's lead. Taxis pressure finally paid off when Richard Ellin pulled a goal back before half time and after the break Julian Lawrence hit a terrific strike to bring the teams level. Both sides had chances after that, but neither of them could find a winner. Ranch boosted their survival hopes as Connor Brunt hit three and Tom Evans four in a 12-0 win over a Colley Tavern that is the first team to be relegated this season. Mikey Thomas hit two and Jakob Burgin, Josh Naylor and Ash Betts one each as Ranch made it just two defeats in their last eight and climb out of the bottom three. DIVISION 2 - Cobden gain crucial win, while Devonshire and George have big wins, but Penistone keep their lead - Ben Bell and Richard Higgins both scored twice as Cobden View gained a vital 5-1 victory over Division Two promotion rivals Killamarsh Juniors. Chris Savage put Killamarsh ahead, but on the stroke of half time Ben Bell levelled for Cobden. The second half belonged to Cobden and as well as Bell's second and Higgins' double, Ben Mayne added a fifth. Devonshire kept pace with them as Sam Read hit five and Nicky Owen three in an 11-1 win over Woodseats Chantrey. Devonshire's other goals came from Dan Hoyland, Keith Cronin and Lee Dyson, while Ishmael Willis netted Chantrey's consolation. Action from the game is below - pictures by Mick Moat
AFC George also had a big win, 9-0 over an understrength Crookes & District. Michael Blythen hit four to take his season's tally to thirty, while Shaun Waller hit three and John Newsome and Tom Houghton one each. Penistone Church maintained their lead though as Brad Kemp and Tim Council hit two each in their 4-0 victory over Norton Oaks B, while Liam Bryan's ninth of the season was enough for Top Club to beat Civil Service B 1-0.
