28 Dec - SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - Loxley or Intake face another all-Blades Super Draw tie against Devonshire  - The Quarter Final of the Sunday Junior Cup has given Devonshire an away tie at the winners of the all-Blades Super Draw tie between Intake Old Boys and their Division One promotion rivals Loxley. Intake and Loxley are scheduled to meet each other on 3 Jan and the winner will entertain Devonshire on 17 Jan. After Wadsley Bridge Pheasant and FC Handsworth Turf won the trophy in the last two seasons, it means that at the very least the League will have a semi finalist for the third successive season.

22-Dec 2015 - Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to everyone - The League would like to wish all players, officials, referees, sponsors and supporters the very best for a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

22 Dec - Laycock Sports change their name to Woodseats Chantrey  - Division Two club Laycock Sports have changed their name to Woodseats Chantrey.

20 Dec - SUNDAY SENIOR CUP - Danny boy helps The Vine Turf out Handsworth  - Danny Seaman (left) set The Vine on the way to a 3-1 victory at fellow Blades Super Draw CBC Premier side Handsworth Turf to go through to the semi finals of the Sunday Senior Cup. Turf had narrowly beaten The Vine twice in recent weeks and although both keepers had to make a quality save, the first half saw little between them and it finished goalless. The Vine got their noses in front when Man of the Match Matt Ellis (right) sent Liam Allott away and he crossed for Seaman to score. They doubled their lead soon after when Ellis put Seaman through into the penalty area and just as he was about to shoot he was brought down by Greg Taylor. Taylor was shown the red card and Rikki Davidson stepped up to score the penalty. Turf didn't give up though and they pulled one back when Danny Wilson's free kick was deflected by Carl Bowler past the keeper. Turf went close to equalising when Harry Johnson headed against the bar but, as Turf piled men forward, The Vine took advantage to score a third when Mike Golland jinxed past three defenders to play in Ellis and he turned his marker to fire home and clinch their semi final spot.  After both Hign Noon and Royal Earl of the Meadowhall League were beaten it means that The Vine are the last remaining Sheffield team.

SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - Cronin at the double to send Devonshire through, but Taxis come to halt  - Keith Cronin scored twice to help Division Two Devonshire (right) win 3-0 at Three Magpies and through to the Sunday Junior Cup Quarter Finals. Cronin gave Devonshire a first half lead and he doubled it with his second after the break. They had to defend stoutly against their strong hosts, but Devonshire clinched victory with a third from Callum Flanagan.

City Taxis run came to an end with a narrow home defeat by Players Lounge. Taxis cause was made much harder when they had Matt Knight dismissed after just fifteen minutes and it quickly got worse when a deflected shot left the Taxis keeper stranded to put Players Lounge ahead. Taxis quickly hit back to level with a twenty five yard screamer by Jordan Marshall and just before half time Marshall missed a great chance to put Taxis ahead. Instead it was Players Lounge that went into the break ahead and although Taxis had plenty of the ball and numerous more chances in the second half, they failed to make the most of them and went out.

CBC PREMIER - Palmer strike sends Redmires top and Brinsworth Whitehill go second, while Stannington are up to fourth  - A Ben Palmer (left) winner saw Redmires get a narrow 3-2 victory over Oughtibridge WM to go top of the CBC Premier. Redmires set off like a hurricane and both Mikey Taylor and leading scorer Jon Wall both hit the woodwork as they created chance after chance, but they couldn't convert any of them and the game went into the break goalless. Redmires missed chances looked to have cost them when Oughtibridge was awarded a penalty when Callum Chambers was brought down and he stepped up to put Oughtibridge in front. Redmires quickly responded and levelled when Danny Turner met a free kick to power home a header and just moments later they took the lead when Chris Cottyn headed home from a Wall corner. It was Oughtibridge's turn to reply and Chambers headed his second of the game to bring the scores level, but after more chances came and went Palmer perfectly placed his shot into the top corner to win it for Redmires.

Up to second is Brinsworth Whitehill after they overcame Civil Service A 3-0. Civil were unable to take advantage of the wind at their backs in the first half and the game went into the break goalless, but Civil almost took the lead straight after the break when debutant George Smith had a shot cleared off the line after good work by Josh Corker and Gary Eades. After that Brinsworth took full advantage of the wind behind them after the break. Joe McGuiness missed a sitter from just a yard out, but they did take the lead when Ainsley Finney beat two defenders to slot home. The Civil keeper Danny Wattam then made two terrific saves from Danny Willis and Finney, but he was beaten a second time four minutes from time when Ryan Watson volleyed home after a corner led to a scramble in the box. Brinsworth made absolutely certain in the final minute when Finney sent Cory Goodwin through to slot the ball past Wattam for their third.

Also up three places to fourth is Stannington Village after their 3-0 home win over Southey Social. Stannington started well and after Charlie Hobson crossed for Dean Jepson only a fine save from Southey keeper kept the score at 0-0. The keeper then pulled another good save off after Lee Johnstone's free kick looked like it was going all the way in. Stannington finally took the lead after sustained pressure halfway through the first half when a Southey corner was cleared to Dean Jepson and he turned to feed Adam Todd who was clean through from the halfway line. Keeping his composure he calmly slotted past the keeper into the corner of the net. With five minutes of the first half left Bill Green (right) robbed the Southey centre back and after a touch out of his feet curled the ball across the keeper low into the corner. The second half continued in the same fashion with continued pressure from Stannington. Chances came and went until twenty minutes from time when Lee Johnstone scored the goal of the game when he connected sweetly with a Bill Green cross. Stannington could have won by more with Adam Todd missing the pick of the chances blazing over from a yard out.

DIVISION 1 - Mellor treble puts Phoenix back on track, but Lounge fightback stuns Loxley - Division Two leaders Phoenix's three match winless run was ended as a John Mellor (left) treble helped them to a 6-2 victory at Hare & Hounds. Matt Winfrow got his first of the season with a good link up play with Jordan Pearce and Kieran Goff to smash past the keeper. John Mellor's first goal was a left foot strike after a jinking run off captain Joshua Aston's pass. Mellor's second came after a great passing move with Goff before Evan Watson made it four with his first goal of the season after a rampaging run down the left wing to slot it past the keeper. Mellor almost completed his hat-trick with an unstoppable shot which hit the bar, but he did complete it in the second half with a sensational overhead kick. Richard Brailey pulled one back for Hounds, but Goff produced a touch of magic with a class chip to lob the keeper from nearly forty yards to round off his man of the match performance for Phoenix's sixth. Rob Hayes scored a second for Hounds with a close range head from Brailey's cross, but it was just another consolation.

Loxley missed the chance to leapfrog third place Ecclesfield Players Lounge when two Craig Senior (right) strikes helped Ecclesfield come from three down to hold Loxley to a 3-3 draw. It all looked plain sailing for Loxley after twenty minutes as they had a three goal lead. Cal Macrury had kicked the scoring off when his flighted cross evaded Ecclesfield keeper Paul Bashforth. Josh Delaney then drove in a powered finish from the edge of the area and Steve Dickinson made it three with a close range header. The misses then started to accumulate with both Marshall and Clarkson wasteful in the first half. Ecclesfield got a goal back in the second half through an Andy Baxter penalty but almost immediately Steve Mayfield found himself one on one only to hit his finish straight at Bashforth. A Marshall one on one was hit high over the bar, James Swanton hit the outside of a post from distance and Ralph Clarkson was up ended for a penalty, but Marshall desperate to score went for power and hit the bar. Ecclesfield introduced talisman striker Senior to the game and started to cause the Loxley defence problems. When a long free kick evaded everyone but a slight flick by Senior and went in the momentum shifted. Loxley spent the last twenty defending, but conceded an equaliser with five minutes to go when Senior headed his second and had Gav Hunter and Ryan Keeney done better with two chances Ecclesfield might well have taken all three points as Loxley hung on.

DIVISION 2 - Service stun Club to get first win, while Killamarsh go joint top - Civil Service B stunned promotion chasers Top Club to gain their first win of the season 5-1 and climb off the foot of the table. An Alex Cowlishaw strike and an own goal quickly gave Service a two goal lead and although Anton Blake pulled one back for Top Club, it was Service that continued to dominate and further goals from Joe Taylor, Mitch Seymour and a Breon Fogarty penalty saw them deservedly take that first win. At the other end of the table, Killamarsh Juniors went joint top with a 3-1 home win over Woodseats Chantrey. Ross Taylor quickly put Killamarsh ahead only to see Scott Lyons cancel it out with a chip over the keeper, but Killamarsh regained the lead before half time with a goal from man of the match Chris Savage and they sealed the points with a second half strike by sub Jon Packman.

13 Dec 2015 - KITLOCKER CUP - Pensitone Church v Redmires postponed -  The Pensitone Church v Redmires tie was postponed and will now be rescheduled in January.

CBC PREMIER - Danny's Reet good for Oaks, while Shackshaft wins Cup rehearsal  - Norton Oaks climbed out of the CBC Premier's bottom three as two Danny Reet (pictured right) goals helped them to a second successive victory, 4-2 against Brinsworth Whitehill. Tom Walsh beat two defenders before chipping the ball into the top corner to open the scoring, before a penalty award allowed Reet to score his first from the spot. Oaks took full control as Alan Mowforth slid one low past the keeper into the bottom corner to give Oaks a three goal half time lead. Oaks again started the second half strongly and it wasn't long before Reet spun in the box to drill the ball powerfully past the Brinsworth keeper. Brinsworth finally found their true form and Sam Sweeney pulled one back before he then set up a second for Cory Goodwin, but it proved to be too little too late and Oaks are now just three points behind fourth place Brinsworth with three games in hand

FC Handsworth Turf and The Vine met for a 'dress rehearsal' of the following week's Sunday Senior Cup quarter final and it was Turf that gained the psychological advantage by completing a league double over their visitors with a 3-2 victory. Victory for The Vine would have seen them go top and it looked good for them as Turf had to go into the game with nine players unavailable and forty four year old Assistant Manager Lee Machin having to play a seventy minute stint. Things quickly got worse for Turf when both Danny Leesley and Tom Crosby limped off with first half injuries, but on the plus side, Turf had a couple of old faces back in Perry Jackson and Mario Esposito (left) and it was Esposito that had the first chance to score when he missed Jason Short's cross by a whisker. Jackson had a greater impact though when he smashed a twenty five yard free kick into the bottom corner to give Turf the lead and their lead was almost doubled just before half time when Short and Esposito combined for Esposito to force a terrific save out of The Vine's keeper.

The second half wasn't too old when Turf did grab a second as Short outpaced the defence and shrugged off a couple of last ditch tackles before smashing the ball into the top corner. The Vine, who had the chance to go top, responded and Rikki Davidson latched onto Karl Ainsworth's through ball to beat the keeper and reduce the arrears and soon after a Davidson was on hand to finish off a Mike Golland cross to level the scores. Just when it looked like The Vine would go on to win it, Turf hit back and after Short had gone close they got the winner instead. Great work by another new signing, Lloyd Gelsthorpe, saw his pass find Short out wide on the left and after he burst down the bye line he crossed for the on-rushing Ben Shackshaft to sidefoot home the winner. Although that now means that Turf have won both their clashes this season, their was just a goal between them in both games, so Sunday's Cup tie threatens to be a real classic between two sides that play football in the right manner.

DIVISION 1 - Hallam Miles too good for leaders, while Taxis looking Well and Fowler at the double to earn Colley's first win - Miles Howarth struck the game's only goal as second place Hallam won 1-0 at leaders Phoenix, who have now picked up just one point from their last three games. What turned out to be the winner came midway through the first half, but it was no more than Hallam deserved and had it not been for a string of saves by Phoenix keeper Kieron Osborne the margin of victory would have been much greater. Phoenix battled hard to get back into it, but Hallam's defence held firm, while referee Gareth Thomas also came in for praise.

Another referee to get praise was David Williams as third place Ecclesfield Players Lounge slipped to a second home defeat, 3-0 by a City Taxis that is now just three points behind them with two games in hand. Jordan Marshall put Taxis ahead with a twenty five yard thunderbolt and they doubled their lead before half time when Scott Wellum rose highest to powerfully head home. Ecclesfield should have pulled one back, but Mark Groves failed to take advantage of an open goal. The second half saw an improvement by Ecclesfield and Ryan Keeney twice couldn't find the target with headers from corners and instead it was Taxis that completed the scoring with Matt Mulcahy's first goal of the season. Action from the game is below - pictures by Mick Moat.

Chris Fowler (right) scored twice as Colley Tavern claimed their first win of the season, 3-2 against Aston Swallownest. Fowler gave Colley the early advantage, but it was cancelled out by a David Sills strike for the visitors. A second for Fowler and one for Ridha Miladi gave Colley a 3-1 advantage by half time, but the second half was only a few minutes old when Sills second of the game brought Aston right back into it. Although Colley created some chances of their own, they were indebted to a number of saves by keeper Neil Wilkinson as they held on for their vital first win.

DIVISION 2 - All Division Two games postponed - The heavy rain over the weekend put paid to all the games in Division Two.

6 Dec - 2015 - KITLOCKER CUP - Pheasant and Stannington through to the semi finals - CBC Premier leaders Wadsley Bridge Pheasant reached their first ever League Kitlocker Cup semi final by coming from behind to beat Division Two newcomers Devonshire 2-1. Sam Read took advantage of a mix-up in the Pheasant defence to give Devonshire the lead after just five minutes and although Pheasant began to dominate affairs after that, the Devonshire defence didn't look likely to be breached. Pheasant continued to be on top at the start of the second half and they levelled on the hour when Andy Dawson was brought down in the area and Craig Mawhood stepped up to smash home the penalty (see the first picture below). Pheasant continued to create chances and when a through ball set Luke Beedham through he chipped the ball over the advancing keeper for the winner. Devonshire's cause wasn't helped when they were reduced to ten men, but they might have taken the game into extra time had they made the most of a couple of chances late in the game. Action from the game is below - pictures by Mick Moat.

They are joined in the semi finals by last season's beaten finalists Stannington Village who saw off fellow CBC Premier side Civil Service A 3-0. Stannington should have taken the lead early in the game, but Lee Johnstone somehow headed a Bill Green corner over the bar and soon after Shaun Flynn put Dean Jepson through and he blasted the ball over the bar. The pressure eventually told when Johnstone cued up Flynn (right) to head the ball home at the near post to give Stannington a half time lead. Stannington started the second half in control and Civil keeper Josh Branch needed to make several saves to keep his side in the game, but his one mistake saw a Johnstone shot go through his fingers to double Stannington's lead. Sub Jack Ridge could have had a quick fire hat-trick as the chances for Stannington continued, but they eventually made it three when new signing Charlie Hobson hit a free kick that Branch could only parry and Cory Mann tapped home the rebound to confirm Stannington's tenth appearance in the semi finals.

SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP ROUND 4 - Swallownest arrested by Loxley's Marshall  - Loxley's Anthony Marshall (left) hit a hat-trick as they comfortably won their Sunday Junior Cup tie 5-0 at a Swallownest MW that had previously won all its games in the Meadowhall Division One and Cups. Loxley started off on the front foot and Steve Mayfield put in two dangerous crosses that just evaded his fellow forwards, but when Marshall got behind the Swallownest defence he was brought down and Callum MacRury gave Loxley the lead from the penalty spot. Man of the match James Swanton then created an opening that Marshall converted high into the roof of the net from close range to give Loxley a two goal half time lead. Loxley had to withstand some pressure early in the second half, but Loxley broke away to grab a third when Ralph Clarkson poked the ball home after a goalmouth scramble. Marshall then scored his second when he was brought down for a second penalty and this time he took it himself, before he completed his hat-trick with a driven low shot after latching onto a long ball. Loxley will next meet fellow Blades Super Draw League Division One side Intake Old Boys in the last sixteen.

CBC PREMIER - Finney at the double to shock Angel and Coel is king for Norton, while Southey fall Short at Turf  - An Ainsley Finney double helped Brinsworth Whitehill join the title race by beating fellow title hopefuls Woodhouse Angel 3-2. Only a good save by the Angel keeper stopped Finney giving Brinsworth an early lead, but they did get their noses in front when the referee judged that Cory Goodwin had been fouled by the Angel keeper Luke Browse and Finney stepped up to coolly slot home. Angel hit back immediately and Mike Towey scored with a terrific lob over Brinsworth's debutant keeper John Reed, but the game swung Brinsworth's way when Angel's Johno Williams was shown a red card. It swung back in Angel's favour when Reed brought down Towey in the box and Mitch Husbands gave Angel a half time lead from the spot. After the break, Brinsworth came close to levelling through Tom Coker and Danny Willis, but when Joe Simpson crossed to give Willis another chance he made no mistake to level the scores. Five minutes later Brinsworth went back in front when Finney was brought down in the area and he picked himself up to score from the spot. Angel tried to get back into it and hit the inside of a post, but their cause wasn't helped when they had a second player dismissed near the end.

Another title hopeful, Redmires, also lost out as Coel Fulton (right) hit a stunning only goal of the game in the second half for a Norton Oaks A that climbed off the bottom. The Norton defence had previously conceded almost four goals a game, but this time the Redmires attack were unable to create any chance of note and only the Redmires keeper Adam Martin stopped the margin of victory being higher. Southey Social are now at the bottom after two strikes by new signing Jason Short helped Handsworth Turf to a 4-1 victory over them. Turf took the lead after just two minutes when Short crossed for Harry Johnson to fire home and the lead was doubled when Greg Taylor's long through ball allowed Short to race clear and smash his shot into the bottom corner. Short then chased a defender down before taking the ball and rounding the keeper to score his second from an acute angle. Man of the Match Ollie Grady then provided the perfect cross for Ben Shackshaft to score into the bottom corner, but Southey scored the goal of the game when Rob Womack hit a terrific shot from thirty yards past Liam Richardson. Short's day then ended prematurely just before half time when he was dismissed for a high challenge. Although Southey began to have more of the ball, it was the ten men of Turf that had the majority of chances with Grady, Shackshaft, James Leesley and Frazer McNeil all going close, although Richardson was called on to stop Southey pulling another back close to the end.

DIVISION 1 - Goodwin double sees Taxis home, while Ranch hold leaders Phoenix - An Aaron Goodwin double helped City Taxis to a 4-1 victory over Intake Old Boys to put Taxis back into the Division One promotion race. Richard Ellin gave Taxis a half time lead and Goodwin doubled it midway through the second half. Five minutes later Goodwin netted his second, but Ryan Barker provided a perfect cross for Russell Hobson to head one back for Intake. Taxis didn't panic though and they completed the scoring a minute from time when new signing Phil Yeardley headed his first goal for the club. Leaders Phoenix let two points slip in a 1-1 draw at a very determined Ranch. Nicky Shaw's eleventh goal of the season gave Phoenix a half time lead and Jack Hawkes, Dale Savage and John Mellor all spurned chances to increase their lead. They paid for it when Ranch were awarded a penalty and Connor Brunt (left) scored from the spot. Phoenix did their best to take the points and Hawkes twice hit the woodwork, but the Ranch defence stayed calm and hung on for their point.

DIVISION 2 - Chantrey Register first home win, while Oaks and Steelers share the spoils - Brendon Wilson scored the winner as Woodseats Chantrey ended Woodhouse Juniors unbeaten away record. David Yates slide rule pass allowed Scott Lyons to round the keeper and put Chantrey ahead midway through the first half, but just before half time Dimitri White levelled for the visitors. The second half saw both teams probing for a winner, but it went Chantrey's way when their twinkle toed veteran Andy Register was brought down in the area and Wilson scored from the spot.

Norton Oaks B and Steelers provided a six goal thriller before they shared the points with a 3-3 draw.  Fraser Oxley and Leighton Buck goals midway through the first half gave Steelers a two goal lead, but two Andy Peters strikes and an Oli West goal turned the match on its head and put Norton in front. Steelers didn't give up though and they deservedly earned a point  with an Ashley Matthews goal five minutes from time.
