30-Oct 2014 - Sunday Cup Draws - The Sunday Cup draws have been made and one of the ties of Round 4 of the Senior Sunday Cup sees Redmires entertain Meadowhall Premeir side Crookes. The Vine are also at home against Doncaster outfit Sprotbrough, but Civil Service have to travel to the Sunday Imperial League's Bagshaw Arms. In the Junior Sunday Cup, holders The Pheasant have a home tie with Rotherham side, Monkwood, and Fox & Hounds Rangers, Hallam and Intake Old Boys all also have home ties, while City Taxis, Handsworth Turf, Phoenix and Norton Oaks all have away ties. Most ties will be played on 16 November, but there are two ties in the Junior Cup awaiting the outcome of earlier rounds, so it is more than likely that they will not be played until a later date.

The full draws are: SUNDAY SENIOR CUP ROUND 4 Redmires v Crookes; The Vine v Sprotbrough; Bagshaw Arms v Sheffield Civil Service SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP ROUND 4 Carlton Park Hotel v City Taxis; Fitzwilliam Arms v F.C. Handsworth Turf; Fox & Hounds Rangers or winner of tie 141 v Longcarr Inn; Hallam (Sunday) v Thrybergh Top; Intake Old Boys v Winner of tie 184; Ryecroft Rovers v Brinsworth Phoenix; The Pheasant v Monkwood; Worsbrough Common Community v Norton Oaks A

These games will cause some league games on 16 November to be amended due to both Redmires and The Pheasant having home ties, so the teams they share with (Bulls Head and The Park) cannot play at home. We are currently trying to arrange some alternative fixtures to enable everyone to play, so keep an eye on the fixtures.

27-Oct 2014 - Referees for November now added to website - The referees allocated to us by the County FA have now been added to the Fixtures section - will the home teams for the whole of the month please contact the appointed referees immediately. Let Keith know if any problems. Where the website shows TBA rather than a referees name, Keith will notify the teams when he has managed to get more referees. Due to Sunday Cup ties, referees for 16 Nov won't be known until they have been released by the County FA much nearer the date.

27-Oct 2014 - Fixture changes on 16 & 30 November - Due to clubs remaining in the County FA, there are several fixture changes on 16 November which has also meant I have had to alter some fixtures on 30 November. The changes are shown in the Fixtures section - Will all clubs please take note. There could be more changes when the County FA Cup draws are known - watch this space. We are still awaiting our referee allocation for November from the County FA - they will be added when known.

26-Oct 2014 - SENIOR SUNDAY CUP - Vickers and Bath trebles as Redmires go goal crazy, while The Vine and Civil Service also go through - Paul Vickers and Andy Bath (left) both hit trebles as Redmires went goal crazy to beat Bullcroft Sports & Pastimes 11-0 in the Sunday Senior Cup. It was just 3-0 at half time, but when Redmires stepped up a gear after the break their opponents were no match for them. Redmires other scorers were Mikey Taylor with two, Dan Bathie, Yianni HadjiGiorgiou and a Jon Wall penalty.

Redmires are joined in the next round by both The Vine and Civil Service after they both completed narrow 2-1 victories. Matt Ellis (right) had a goal ruled out for The Vine for offside in the first half at Ashfield and after the break it was their hosts that went in front, but The Vine stepped up a gear and soon levelled with a Rikki Davidson strike. They then pushed for the winner and after Joe France had hit the crossbar, it came when Phil Miskell and France linked up to put Ellis in to coolly slot home.

Civil Service took a tenth minute lead when Gavin Wills low cross was spilled by the Bridge Athletic keeper and Stacy Sharif snapped up the chance. Bridge defied their lowly Imperial Division One position and deservedly levelled mid way through the first half when Thorpe brilliantly vollied home Wilson’s expert free kick. Neither side could add to that and the game went into extra time, but with penalties looming, Wills’ free kick was headed down by Calvin Thomas and man of the match Ben Brown (left) managed to get the decisive touch with his head to put Civil through.

Woodhouse Angel almost joined them, but finally went out to the fourteenth penalty in a penalty shoot out. Their visitors Hoyland Common took the lead with a well worked goal, but Angel were level by half time with an equally well worked goal with Brad Williams finishing off Kirk Briddon’s through ball. No more goals came in normal and extra time, although Angel went closest when Nick Haywood hit the post. It therefore went to penalties and it was Hoyland that came out on top.

Despite Jack Mylnek heading Stannington Village into the lead, they also went out, 3-2 at Cawthorne. Stannington then fell behind before Bill Green equalised with a twenty yard free kick to send the game into extra time. With penalties looming Cawthorne grabbed their winner with a quality finish.

Riverside were involved in an eleven goal feast with Westville, but in reality they were never really in the game after going three down early on and four down at the break. Callum Chambers made it 4-1, but Westville extended their lead with two more. Laurence Matthewson and Chambers pulled two back and when Christian Rowe made it 6-4 with five minutes remaining a dramatic turnaround looked possible, but in the final minute Westville wrapped it up with their seventh.

JUNIOR SUNDAY CUP - Fothergill and Esposito both hit four, while Hallam see off Ranch - In the Sunday Junior Cup, Lewis Fothergill scored four times as holders The Pheasant brushed aside The Crown Scissett 8-0. The Wakefield & District club were no match for The pheasant and along with Fothergill’s four came two for Craig Mahwood, and one each for Shane Andrews and Dylan Parrott. Super Mario Esposito also scored four to take his season’s tally to twenty one in just seven games as Handsworth Turf also won 8-0 at home against Clogg Thurnscoe. Turf’s other four came from Ben Shackshaft, Tom Crosby, Craig Cansdale and Sam Atkin.

Joe Howsham hit three as Division Two Hallam FC knocked out Division One Ranch 5-3 in the all-Blades Super Draw affair. Ranch took the lead when Steve Batty’s cross was headed home by Paul Smith, but Jack Waddle and Howsham goals put Hallam in front. Tom Hartley then squared the ball for full back Rob Wharham to send the sides in level at half time and soon after the break Breon Fogarty’s free kick deflected perfectly off the wall for Hartley to put Ranch ahead. Just when it looked as if Ranch would hold on, Hallam were awarded a penalty struck home by Howsham and to add insult to injury Ranch were reduced to ten men. Howsham then completed his hat-trick with a second penalty before Hothryfa Gadour completed the scoring. More action from the game is below (pictures by Mick Moat)

A second all-Blades Super Draw tie saw Intake Old Boys go through 2-0 at fellow Division One Dam House Bar's expense. Shaun Garwell won the ball before playing it to Paul Turner and his threaded pass allowed Russ Hobson to smash the ball across the keeper and into the corner. Turner worked his magic a second time with a ball over the defence for John Higgins to volley home from the edge of the area. Any chance Dam House had of getting back into it went when Harry ONeill had his penalty saved by Intake keeper Ryan Sheppard.

A second Division Two side through is Phoenix after two Karl Fox (left) strikes saw them win 2-1 at Bessacar and a third one through is City Taxis after two Tom Stubbs goals and one from Jordan Marshall saw them win 3-1 at White Hart. Division One Norton Oaks A completed a comfortable 5-0 win at Woodhouse Juniors with two from Dom Jolly, one each for Robbie Aspinall and Sam Ireland along with an own goal.

Our only faller to a team outside the Blades Super Draw was Loxley against Fitzwilliams Arms and it needed a penalty shoot out before they went out after it finished 4-4 at the end of extra time. Two Ralph Clarkson headers saw Loxley 2-1 up at half time and although their visitors levelled the scores, Steve Mayfield looked to have won it when he put them 3-2 ahead until a penalty in the final thirty seconds allowed the Rotherham side to equalise again. Anthony Marshall put Loxley back in front in extra time only for the visitors to be awarded a second penalty thirty seconds from the end of extra time. That meant it went to a penalty shoot out which Fitzwilliam won 4-3.

CBC PREMIER - No place like home for Brinsworth, while The Park stop the rot - Brinsworth Whitehill's remarkable form at home was the cornerstone of their promotion last season and it continued with a 4-2 victory over Bulls Head in their first top flight home game. Ross Johnson showed some fancy footwork before scoring from a tight angle to give Brinsworth the lead, but Sam Britton levelled for Bulls Head just before the break. The second half saw Brinsworth take command when Jed McGowen’s corner was flicked home by the head of Lewis Watson, before Joe McGuiness raced onto Matt Langley’s through ball to double their lead. McGowen made it four with a dipping shot from thirty yards before Britton scored a second for the visitors, but had it not been for the Bulls Head keeper the winning margin would have been far greater.

The Park's poor run ended as they came from a goal down to earn a point with a 1-1 draw at Stocksbridge Park Steels. After a goalless first half, John McSeveney wasted a good chance to put Steels ahead, but they did take the lead when Phil Cookson set up Mitch Savage (right) to score. Unlike recent weeks, The Park didn’t give up and a long throw resulted in a scramble in the Steels goalmouth and Aidy Tomlin poked home the equaliser. Steels should still have won it though when they were awarded a penalty in the final minute, but Savage’s spot kick was saved by Jamie Hill in The Park goal.

DIVISION 1 - Southey go top, while Sills leads Aston to victory  - Southey Social went top of Division One with a comfortable 4-1 home win over an injury hit Ecclesfield Players Lounge. It didn’t start well for Southey when, after missing three good chances, they fell behind to Mitch Robinson’s first goal for three years. Southey equalised before half time when Sean Needham headed home, but they might have gone behind just before the break when Ecclesfield had a ‘goal’ ruled out by the referee and again after the break had Lee Pagden made better contact in front of goal. With twenty minutes remaining Southey got their noses in front when Ash Matthews smashed home a free kick and they doubled it when John Mellor (left) and Danny Lindley combined for Joel Askham to score. They completed the scoring with a last minute penalty by Mellor.

The other Division One game saw a David Sills treble help Aston Swallownest to a 7-0 victory at Hare & Hounds, their worst home defeat for six years. Jack Farrow headed home the opener from a corner and they doubled it before half time when Ian Draper flicked the ball through for Sills to score his first. Scott Macormac scored a fortuitous third soon after the break, before Sills rounded the keeper to his second. He soon added his third, before Tom Connors shot was parried out to Farrow for him to nod his second. Ben Winter added the second, while three good saves by Aston keeper Scott Hall earned him his first clean sheet of the season.

DIVISION 2 - Chapeltown join the promotion race, while Vale come from two down to get first win Chapeltown RBL joined the Division Two promotion race with a 2-1 home win over Cobden View. A great run and cross by Liam Gibson was met by winger Tom Rollitt to give Chapeltown an early lead. Chapeltown controlled the rest of the half, but weren’t able to add to their lead until the second half when Josh Savage jinked his way past two defenders before rifling low past the keeper into the bottom right hand corner. Cobden responded and halved the deficit when Rich Lowery’s diving header from Dave Hunt’s free kick, but with full back Gavin Burbeary outstanding for Chapeltown, they comfortably held out for the win that pushes them up to fourth.

Sharrow Vale climbed out of the bottom three when they came from two down to earn their first win of the season, 3-2 at Crookes & District. Crookes looked to be on their way to their first points of the season when Chris Cottyn set up Dave Charlton to give them a tenth minute lead and just ten minutes later, Charlton repaid the favour for Cottyn to tap into an empty net. Vale didn’t get back into the game until just before half time when Andrew Foster’s diagonal ball found John Bradley to score. On the hour mark Vale levelled when John Matterson beat his man in the box before producing a cool finish and their comeback was completed when Lewis MacDonald broke clear, and although his first shot hit the upright, he finished off the rebound.

Colley grabbed their second away win of the season 2-0 at Norton Oaks B and had it not been for an inspired display by the Norton keeper, the margin may well have been many more. Although it was goalless at the interval, Chris Fowler and Curtis Gregory took advantage of two defensive errors to finally beat the Norton keeper.

Laycock Sports and Steelers played out a thrilling 3-3 draw. Steve Morris (right) gave Laycocks the lead with a twenty five yard strike, but it was soon cancelled out by Liam Garrett and soon after the break, Garrett grabbed his second to put Steelers in front. They weren’t ahead for long though as Luke Glaves headed an equaliser and Laycocks went back in front when Morris converted a penalty. It looked all over for Steelers when they were reduced to ten men, but Blake Owen managed to grab an equaliser near the end.

19-Oct 2014 - CBC PREMIER - Danny's the Civil boy as leaders are beaten, while Angel fly at last - A Danny Fowler (left) strike for Civil Service saw them take over at the top of the CBC Premier as they ended previous leaders Stannington Village unbeaten record. Stannington went closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half through former Civil striker Gavin Davis and Sean Flynn. It was a similar story in the second half as Civil keeper Luke Herriott and central defender ben Sanderson kept Stannington at bay and when Herriott was beaten by Jack Mylnek it was ruled out for offside.

Just as they had the previous season Civil grabbed the vital goal with just eleven minutes remaining. The hard working Stacy Sharif found winger Josh Corker and his inch perfect cross was met with a bullet head by Fowler into the roof of the net. Stannington tried to respond and Mylnek blasted over when well placed, Dean Jepson glanced a header over and Rob Shelley lost his footing when well placed. Herriott had the final say with a full length save to deny Josh Coulson and earn Civil the points.

Up to second after a 2-1 victory over Brinsworth Whitehill is newly promoted Oughtibridge WM who are now twenty seven games unbeaten in the league. Oughtibridge went in front after just three minutes when Strachan Sampson’s cross was headed home by skipper Joe Appleyard and the lead was soon doubled when David Sheakey was first to a loose ball. Brinsworth got back into the game with a Ross Johnson penalty and had it not been for some great saves by Oughtibridge keeper Paul Cadman they might well have gone home with a point.

Third place Stocksbridge Park Steels dropped their first points of the season as two Scott Birch strikes only proved enough for a point at The Vine. After Kyle Mitcham had gone close to giving Vine the lead, they did go in front when James Mitcham put Matt Ellis in to beat his marker and drill the ball past the keeper from the edge of the box. The second half saw Steels put the home side under pressure, but Vine almost doubled their lead when Joe France shot wide.

Steels pressure finally paid off when Andy Marsh brought Birch down in the area and he picked himself up to score from the spot. Mitch Savage then had a free kick well saved and the returning Lee Shepherd had an effort tipped over, but it was The Vine that regained the lead when they were awarded a penalty and Rikki Davidson scored from the spot. Steels kept pushing and they eventually got a deserved equaliser when Birch scored his second with a terrific free kick into the top corner.

Jon Wall hit a hat-trick and Scott Dinnigan saved a penalty as Redmires climbed to fourth with 7-1 at Riverside. Redmires led by just a single goal at the break, but doubled their lead two minutes into the second half. Christian Rowe pulled one back for Riverside and the game was fairly close until Redmires stepped up a gear and scored five in the final twenty minutes. Along with Wall’s treble was two from Andy Bath and one each for Joe Keighley and Ben Palmer.

Despite taking an early lead through Mark Bryant, a Bulls Head that had started the day in second place dropped to sixth as Woodhouse Angel picked up their first points of the season with a 4-2 victory over them. Chris Towey’s header quickly cancelled out that goal and the sides went into the break level. Towey then gave Angel the lead with another header from Mark Coggin’s long throw, but a defensive error allowed Nick Ash to set Bryant up to score his second for Bulls Head. That only seemed to inspire Angel though and Brad Smith finished off a free flowing move to put them back in front before an excellent run and finish by Nick Haywood clinched Angel’s first win.

DIVISION 1 - Intake go top, while Super Mario helps Turf to second - Intake Old Boys took over top spot in Division One with a 2-0 home win over Hare & Hounds. Liam Parnell’s cross was deflected into his own goal by a Hounds defender to give Intake the lead, but there was no luck about their second when Andrew Dodds hit a screamer from twenty five yards.

Handsworth Turf climbed to second as Mario Esposito added to more to his collection in Turf's narrow victory in a seven goal thriller at Loxley. Danny Leesley and Perry Jackson combined to set up super Mario for his first and he bagged his second from keeper Liam Richardson’s long clearance. Ben Shackshaft made it three before half time with a shot into the bottom corner, but Loxley had twice gone close when Ralph Clarkson hit a post and Geoff Mayfield had one cleared off the line, so it was no surprise when Clarkson pulled one back. Anthony Marshall then scored direct from a corner to reduce the deficit to one, but Turf gave themselves some breathing space when cut the ball back for Jackson to score their fourth. Loxley came back again and grabbed their third when Mayfield’s shot from distance hit the crossbar and went in off the keeper, but try as they may they couldn’t get an equaliser.

Chris Roberts scored twice as Southey Social climbed to fourth by coming from behind to win 4-1 at Aston Swallownest. Southey started well and only three good saves by the Aston keeper stopped them going in front, so it was against the run of play when Matt Wilton put Aston ahead. Southey were soon back on level terms when Danny Lindley and John Mellor combined to set up the chance for Aiden Owen to score, and they went in front before half time with a cool strike by Roberts. With Todd Guest outstanding in midfield, Southey extended their lead in the second half when Lindley pulled the ball back for Roberts to score his second. Aston then missed a great opportunity to get back into the game when they smashed a penalty over the bar and Mellor made them pay by scoring Southey’s fourth.

Ecclesfield Players Lounge dropped to fifth after sharing the points in a 1-1 draw with The Pheasant. Ecclesfield’s injury crisis worsened when they lost ace marksman Craig Senior after just twenty minutes, but they took the lead with an Andy Baxter strike. It looked like it would be enough after Scott Abramski made a string of saves in the Ecclesfield goal and The Pheasant hit the woodwork twice, but with just two minutes remaining referee Paul Cooper awarded The Pheasant a penalty and Dylan Parrott calmly scored the equaliser from the spot.

Dam House Bar and Ranch also shared the points after a 1-1 draw. Dam House missed a great chance to take a first half lead when the Ranch keeper brought Steve Davis down in the area, but the normally reliable Harry ONeill saw his spot kick well saved by Ranch keeper Mark Broadhurst. Broadhurst also came to the rescue several times in the second half, but he was beaten by a wind assisted Jack Watson free kick. Broadhurst’s heroics were rewarded when Ranch was awarded a penalty and player manager Richard Honeyman scored from the spot.

DIVISION 2 - Howsham four Hallam, while Phoenix held and concede a goal for first time Joe Howsham hit four as Hallam kept top spot in Division Two with an 8-0 win over Crookes & District. There was just no stopping Hallam as Jack Waddle, Miles Howarth and Hothryfa netted their others.

City Taxis are up to second after two Tom Stubbs penalties helped them to a 4-2 victory over Laycock Sports. Stubbs first gave Taxis a half time lead and Flo Fadiga made it two after the break. Laycocks got back into it with a Luke Glaves strike until a Jordan Marshall goal put Taxis back in command. Laycocks hit back again through Adam Williamson, but Stubbs second penalty finally killed them off.

Phoenix dropped to third after conceding a goal for the first time this season and dropping their first points with a 1-1 draw with Fox & Hounds Rangers. Fox took a second half lead with a Matt Roberts strike, but Phoenix grabbed a deserved equaliser when Joe Jackson headed home Josh Aston’s cross. Steelers are up to fourth after a Blake Owen double helped them to a 4-1 home win over Norton Oaks B. Owen hit his first after just twelve minutes and he made it two a minute later. Kaiden Simpson scored Steelers third before the break and debutant Michael Sveinbjohennson (I bet he doesn’t get booked often!!!) made in four in the second half before Richard Pearson netted Norton’s consolation.

Liam Gibson struck twice as Chapeltown took the points with a 3-2 win at Sharrow Vale. Gibson’s cross-cum-shot gave Chapeltown a first half lead, but there was no luck about his second at the start of the second half when he volleyed home from thirty yards. Debutant full back Gary Bacon then played in Dale Shaw for Chapeltown’s third, but a freak goal from Greg Benson’s forty five yard free kick that left keeper Nick Dennis helpless reduced the arrears and a second when John Bradley played Lewis MacDonald in left Chapeltown hanging on. Cobden View claimed their first points of the season when Richard Lowery’s first half goal gave them a narrow 1-0 victory over Colley.

12-Oct 2014 - SENIOR SUNDAY CUP - Davidson and Broadbent trebles sees The Vine and Riverside through, but penalty heartache for Brinsworth -

In the Senior Sunday Cup Rikki Davidson (right) hit a hat-trick as The Vine won 5-3 at  Imperial champions Woodhouse Junction. The Vine went ahead after just two minutes when James Mitcham was brought down in the area and Davidson thumped home the penalty and although Junction equalised with a penalty of their own after a handball by Craig Woolley, a third penalty allowed Davidson to put The Vine back in front by half time. After the break, Mitcham set up Matt Ellis to double The Vine’s lead and Ellis quickly added his second after Shaun Brunt played him in. Davidson then completed his hat-trick and Joe France hit the bar before Junction made the result more respectable with two late goals.

Luke Broadbent hit a second half hat-trick as Riverside beat AFC Masons 5-1. Christian Rowe set Riverside on their way after playing a one-two with Callum Chambers and Chambers made it two by half time. The second half belonged to Broadbent as Riverside cruised through. Civil Service came from behind to record a good 3-1 win at Swallownest Miners Welfare. Keeper Luke Herriott had made two good saves to stop Civil falling behind, but there was nothing he could do when Josh Rowlands met Tom Galloway's low cross to put Swallownest ahead. They were behind for just four minutes though as Stacy Sharif sped past Joe Armitage before hammering the ball past Staniland in the home goal. Just three minutes later the home side failed to clear their lines and full back Josh Corker hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner to give Civil a half time lead. With Ben Sanderson and Ben Brown looking impregnable at the back, Swallownest rarely looked like getting back into the game although Rowlands dragged one wide when he should have done better. The game was finally settled six minutes from time when Sarif's corner was headed out to Adam Firth and he drilled home his shot from the edge of the area.

Stannington Village hit double figures against Meadowhall's SWD winning 10-0. Rob Shelley intercepted a pass before advancing to open the scoring and Sean Flynn soon made it two. Gavin Davis and a Lee Johnstone header came before one from Bill Green and Flynn’s second made it six by half time. Jack Mylnek took Davis’s pass to make it seven and number eight was a Johnstone free kick. Dean Jepson made it nine before Joe Barker completed the rout.

The first of two all-Blades Super Draw ties saw Redmires came from two down to win 7-2 at fellow CBC Premier side, Bulls Head. Alan Mowforth’s quick free kick gave Bull the lead and they made it two when Matt Evans pulled the ball back for Rob Dawber to score, but after that it was all Redmires with Mikey Taylor and Jon Wall both netting twice along with singles for Andy Bath, Ben Palmer and Dan Bathie.

The second tie saw Oughtibridge WM take a first half lead against Woodhouse Angel when Sean Lee’s crossfield ball found Justin Westoby and he chested it down before smashing the ball, but the second half saw Brad Smith finish off a good move to level the scores. Angel then went on to win it when a corner was knocked down by Dave Kippax and Tom Goodall stroked the ball home.

Brinsworth Whitehill’s youngsters will count themselves very unlucky to go out on penalties against the Meadowhall Premier leaders Crookes. Brinsworth looked set to cause a shock when Ryan Watson and Ross Johnson strikes put them two up but Crookes hit back to go 3-2 in front. Johnson then hit his second to take the game into extra time and although Danny Willis grabbed a fourth for Brinsworth it finished 4-4 at the end of extra time. That led to a penalty shoot-out which Crookes just came out on top 4-3.

The Park fell two behind at The Abbey and although two Aidy Tomlin goals either side of half time briefly brought them level, The Park’s defence fell to pieces and The Abbey ran out easy 9-2 winners.

JUNIOR SUNDAY CUP - Phoenix cut down Ecclesfield - In the Sunday Junior Cup, The first of four all-Blades Super Draw tie brought one of the shocks of the day as Division Two Phoenix came away from  Division One Ecclesfield Players Lounge with a 3-1 victory. Greg Unwin netted for Ecclesfield, but mistakes at the back allowed Karl Fox, Bradley Clarke and Matt Winfrow take advantage to send Phoenix through.

Harry ONeill (left) hit four in the second all-Blades Super Draw tie as Division One Dam House Bar saw off Division Two Chapeltown RBL 5-2. ONeill’s first two came either side of one for Brett Gardner to give Bar a 3-0 lead and although Chapeltown pulled on back when Ben Palmer was brought down in the area and although Josh Savage’s spot kick was saved, he follwed up to make it 3-1 at the break. Oneill completed his hat-trick with a penalty to restore Bar’s three goal lead and although sub Tom Rollitt rifled in a free kick to score a second for Chapeltown, Oneill grabbed his fourth to make sure his side went through.

A third saw the Jackson brothers both on target as Division One Handsworth Turf won 4-1 at Division Two Cobden View.  Perry Jackson opened the scoring with a fierce drive into the top corner before Rob Pratt made it two with a goal of the season contender with a left foot volley from twenty yards. The second half saw good work by Mario Esposito set up Ollie Grady for Turf’s third before Rich Lowery pulled one back for View, but Turf had the final say when Matt Jackson’s bullet header from a corner scored their fourth.

The fourth saw Intake Old Boys have five different scorers in their 5-1 victory over Norton Oaks B.

Norton Oaks A did much better with a 3-1 victory at Players Lounge Athletic. Steve Scott bundled in the opener from a corner before Danny Reet smashed in a second off a post. Billy Ireland made it three before half time when he chipped the keeper. The home side pulled one back after the break, but Norton never looked like losing it.

A Dan Hartley treble helped Fox & Hounds Rangers to a comfortable 8-2 victory at Chapeltown Celtic. Ash Peet kept up his run of goals in every game with two and Richard Lester also scored twice while Fox’s other came from Craig Begbie. Joe Howsham also hit three as Hallam had a 5-3 extra time victory at Royal Oak. Miles Howarth and Craig Williams grabbed Hallam’s others.

Another hat-trick came from Steve Mayfield in Loxley's 6-0 victory over Staffordshire Arms. Loxley led with just a single Anthony Marshall goal at half time, but Mayfield’s three together with Bobby Rust and Tom Storey strikes saw Loxley comfortably through. Yet another hat-trick came from Craig Mahwood as holders The Pheasant won 7-1 at Champs U21. Darren Richardson scored twice while The Pheasant’s others came from Dean Williamson and Dylan Parrott.

Despite being a goal down at half time, City Taxis came back to beat Jack in a Box B 6-1 with doubles from both Flo Fadiga and Tom Stubbs plus one from Joe Lavery and an own goal. After Tom Hartley had given Ranch a half time lead they also went on to beat Walkley Cottage by the same score. Paul Smith cut the ball back for Richard Honeyman to make it two, before Ian Cooper dropped a clanger to put Walkley back in the game. He needn’t have worried though as a deflected Joe Nadin shot restored their two goal lead and Tom Hartley’s second extended it further. Hartley then set up Smith for Ranch’s fifth before Chris wajs completed the scoring.

The only fallers to teams outside our League was Sharrow Vale 2-1 at Bystrany and Colley 4-2 at home to Ridgeway Athletic.Bystrany took a second half lead until it was cancelled out by Mike Shaw’s flying header, but Vale couldn’t hold on as their hosts won it with five minutes remaining. Chris Fowler and Josh Connor goals weren’t enough to save a below par Colley.

DIVISION 1 - Todd's a welcome Guest for Southey - Todd Guest was the star of the show as Southey won 3-2 at Hare and Hounds in the day's only Division One game. Adam Caywood’s glancing header gave Hounds the lead only for Chris Roberts to equalize on the stroke of half time. Stefan Rankine put Hounds back in front after the break, but Aiden Owen cancelled it out this time and with ten minutes remaining John Mellor grabbed Southey’s winner.

DIVISION 2 - Garrett treble helps Steelers to first win In the day's only Division Two game, a Liam Garrett treble helped Steelers to a thrilling 6-4 victory at Crookes & District. Garrett’s treble and one from Blake Owen all came in the first sixteen minutes and although Rob Acheson pulled one back for Crookes, Steelers went into the break 5-1 up after Tom Coates added his name to the scoresheet. Matt Hanson and Mike Dobson strikes gave Crookes some hope, but Owen’s second put Steelers three in front again. James Barrett grabbed a fourth for Crookes, but the Steelers defence then shut up shop.

7 October 2014 - KITLOCKER CUP - Will the holders be Turf-ed out ? - The draw for Round 3 of the League Kitlocker Cup, drawn in the Referees room at Bramall Lane by Blades Super Draw Promotions' Pete Stone (right) saw the holders Redmires drawn away at former holders Handsworth Turf. There are two all-CBC Premier ties with Brinsworth Whitehill entertaining Civil Service and Oughtibridge Village entertain neighbours Riverside, There is certain to be a Division Two side in the quarter final as Hallam FC entertain fellow League newcomers Fox & Hounds Rangers and there is certain to be at least one Division One team through from Norton Oaks A's visit to Ranch. Potential shocks could come from Stannington Village's visit to Division One Aston Swallownest, The Vine's visit to Southey Social and Bulls Head's home tie with Intake Old Boys. Six ties will be on 2 November and two will be a week later on 9 November. The full draw is:

2 Nov: Aston Swallownest v Stannington Village; Brinsworth Whitehill v Civil Service; Bulls Head v Intake Old Boys; Hallam FC v Fox & Hounds Rangers; Handsworth Turf v Redmires; Oughtibridge WM v Riverside 9 Nov: Ranch v Norton Oaks ‘A’; Southey Social v The Vine

5-Oct 2014 - KITLOCKER CUP - Holders have a stroll in The Park as ties go to form - Matt Reay hit a hat-trick as holders Redmires thrashed The Park side they beat in last season's final, while the nearest to a shock result was Intake Old Boys' victory against a The Pheasant side that had beaten them in the league the week before. The other two all-CBC Premier ties saw victories for Oughtibridge WM, with Tom Fletcher hitting the winner against neighbours Stocksbridge Park Steels, and The Vine, who came from behind to beat hosts Woodhouse Angel. CBC Premier Riverside were taken to extra time by a ten-man Division Two Colley and it was in extra time that Andy Dawson headed Norton Oaks A's winner against fellow Division One side Ecclesfield Players Lounge.

Hallam FC also needed extra time to overcome fellow Division Two side Chapeltown RBL, while the other all-Division Two tie saw a Craig Begbie double help Fox & Hounds Rangers to a comfortable win over Norton Oaks B. Gary Eades hit a hat-trick as Civil Service came from a goal down to beat newcomers City Taxis, while Bulls Head were pushed hard before finally coming through at Loxley. Brinsworth Whitehill scraped home at Hare & Hounds (see action left). A Danny Lindley double helped Sothey Social to victory over fellow Division One side Dam House Bar, while a Connor Brunt treble saw Ranch safely through against Cobden View. Mario Esposito made it fifteen goals in his last four games with four goals in Handsworth Turf's comfortable victory at Crookes & District, while Billy Evans hit Aston Swallownest's victory at Laycock Sports.

MATCH OF THE DAY

HALLAM FC 4 CHAPELTOWN RBL 2

The World’s second oldest club, Hallam FC, celebrated the formation of its first ever Sunday side, by holding its first ever cup tie on their Sandygate Road pitch - the oldest football pitch in the World - and they were rewarded by just coming out on top, 4-2, in a topsy turvey cup tie with Chapeltown RBL that needed extra time before it was settled.

Hallam had ex-England winger Chris Waddle in their starting eleven and ex Sheff Wednesday player David Graham on the bench, but it was Chapeltown that started the better playing some neat football. Hallam gradually got to grips with the game and began to have more possession, but neither side really threatened the keeper in the first half and it ended goalless.

This changed in the second half though as Chapeltown’s Josh Savage danced his way through the Hallam defence and, after playing a one-two with winger Joe Moorhouse, Savage finished low into the bottom corner. At this point Hallam were under the cosh and it looked like Chapeltown would run out winners, until a disputed free kick just outside the area led to the equaliser. Joe Howsham stepped up to take it and his shot took a wicked deflection off a defender to fly past the stranded Nick Dennis in the Chapeltown goal.

Chapeltown re-grouped and started dominating again, culminating in striker Ben Palmer bundling the ball home to put them back in front in the final minute. However the drama wasn't over as a long punt from Hallam caused confusion in the Chapeltown defence and Miles Howarth scrambled an equaliser to force extra time.

Hallam with their tails up then took control and took the lead in the first half of extra time when a quick break saw Addie Gadour score while the visitors appealed in vain for offside. Chapeltown did their best to get back into it, but their hopes were finally dashed when ex-Owl David Graham hit an unstoppable shot from 30 yards to clinch it for Hallam

Hallam FC: James Walsh, Alex Fearn, Richard Pillinger, Thomas Brzuzy, Michael Kay, David France, Chris Waddle, Craig Williams, Miles Howarth, Hothryfa Gadour, Richard Porter Subs David Graham, Kevin Symington, Joe Howsham

Chapeltown RBL: Nick Dennis, Garry Turley, Gav Burbeary, Will Jones, Neil Boote, Tom Rollit, Dale Shaw, Tom Wright, Josh Savage, Liam Gibson, Joe Moorhouse Subs: Joe Hindmarch, Jack ONeil, Matt Grant, Dave Adams, Ben Palmer

In the the re-run of last season’s Cup Final, a Matt Reay (right) hat-trick helped holders Redmires score a sensational 8-2 victory over fellow CBC Premier side The Park. Dave Knaggs and Hegel Noubissie strikes gave Redmires a two goal lead in just twelve minutes, but The Park pulled one back through Aidy Tomlin and were level when James Ronksley was brought down in the area and Nat Foster scored from the spot. Reay put Redmires back in front just before the break and he extended that lead with two more early in the second half. Redmires were now well on top and added three more through Joe Keighley, Andy Bath and Dale White.

The first of two other all-CBC Premier ties saw Oughtibridge WM beat near neighbours Stocksbridge Park Steels 1-0 with Tom Fletcher hitting the vital goal. Although Oughtibridge’s Ross Brown hit a post, it was Stocksbridge that made and missed the majority of chances with Scott Birch twice being foiled when on-on-one with the keeper and both Mitch Savage and George Orrell firing over when they should have scored. Inevitably the winner came from a mistake when Steels keeper Stephen Marshall dropped the ball at Fletcher’s feet and he tapped the ball home.

The third all-CBC Premier tie saw The Vine come from behind to beat hosts Woodhouse Angel 3-1. Angel were the better side in the first half and took a deserved lead when Chris Towey headed home and had it not been for The Vine keeper Mike Else, Angel’s lead would have been much larger. The Vine introduced Brent Healey and Will Blakeney after the break and the move immediately paid dividends when Blakeney set up Rikki Davidson for the equaliser. Full back Kyle Mitcham then continued with his hot streak by beating a man before scoring from twenty five yards to put The Vine ahead and Davidson then set Joe France up to head the clincher.

CBC Premier Riverside needed a Callum Chambers hat-trick and extra time to get past a ten-man Division Two Colley in a nine goal thriller. Luke Broadbent, Christian Rowe and Chambers goals in the first twelve minutes seemingly put Riverside in control even though Colley’s Brendan Drew did pull one back before the break. It seemed all over when Chambers was brought down soon after the break and as well as seeing the last defender red carded Chambers picked himself up to make it 4-1. With nothing to lose, Colley threw caution to the wind and pulled one back with a Carl Lomas strike from the edge of the area, before a Ridha Miladi bullet header reduced the deficit further. Colley then grabbed a deserved equaliser when Matt Meaney set Chris Fowler up to score to take the game into extra time, but the ten men began to tire and Chambers completed his hat-trick to put Riverside through.

Two other CBC Premier sides involved in nine goal games were Civil Service and Bulls Head who both won 6-3. Service fell behind at home to newcomers City Taxis when former Service striker Tom Stubbs scored, but Service soon levelled when a corner wasn’t cleared and Chris Brooke fired home. Wes Bamford then put Service ahead and Gary Eades made it 3-1 at the break Taxis should have pulled one back when they were awarded a penalty, but it was brilliantly saved by Luke Harriott and Eades hit his second to extend Service’s lead. Although Scott Westney pulled one back for Taxis, Eades completed his hat-trick to keep Service in control and despite Jordan Marshall scoring a third for Taxis, it was Service that completed the scoring with one from Andrzej Gordon-Hides.

Alan Mowforth and a Lee Smith header quickly had Bulls Head two up at Loxley, but the Division One side hit back to level with a thunderous drive by Steve Mayfield and a delicate chip by Anthony Marshall. Mowforth put Bulls Head back in front when he was first to the ball after John Kentzer had hit the bar and another Lee Smith header put them two in front again. Tom Wilson’s close range volley pulled one back for Loxley and Tom Storey’s header looked to be bringing them level again until it came back off the post. Bulls Head finally made it safe when Dave Stacey followed up to score after a Kerry Dixon header had been saved and Liam Bonnick rounded the keeper to complete the scoring.

Brinsworth Whitehill found themselves behind at Division One Hare & Hounds when Ross Eckhardt headed home a Mark Bailey cross, but the CBC Premier side hit back to level with a Danny Johnson shot that took a wicked deflection off Justin Laurence. Ross Johnson put Brinsworth ahead before half time and Danny Willis added their third after the break. Stef Rankine pulled one back for Hounds, but they couldn’t force an equaliser.

CBC Premier leaders Stannington Village got a real shock when Sam Firth put Division Two Phoenix ahead and it wasn’t until just before the interval when Dan Green put a corner back into the box and his brother Bill took one touch to control and a second to score the equaliser. Soon after the break Lee Johnstone slid Joe Barker in to put Stannington ahead and Barker started the move that saw Dean Jepson set up Sean Flynn to make the final score 3-1.

The nearest to a shock result was Intake Old Boys' 3-0 victory at a The Pheasant side that had beaten them in the league the week before. Sunday Junior Cup holders The Pheasant seem to never recover from conceding the early goal scored when Liam Parnell raced onto a ball over the top to beat the keeper. Intake doubled their lead when Adam Clayton ran at the home defence before letting fly with a shot that took a deflection past The Pheasant keeper and they wrapped up the victory when Russell Hobson was brought down in the area before picking himself up to score from the spot.

Another all-Division One tie saw Norton Oaks A' need extra time to gain a 2-1 victory over former holders Ecclesfield Players Lounge. Joe Knight had given Ecclesfield a half time lead and Dale Hirst missed a great chance to double it. With Ecclesfield keeper James Abramski making a string of great saves it looked as if one goal might be enough, but Abramski was finally beaten by Norton’s leading scorer Danny Reet with ten minutes remaining. That took the game to extra time and it was an Andy Dawson header from a corner that finally won it for Norton.

Another all-Division One tie saw Danny Lindley score twice to inspire Southey Social to a 5-2 victory over Dam House Bar. John Mellor put Danny Ferguson in to put Southey ahead, only for Richard Brosnan to cancel it out before the break. An eight man move straight from the second half kick off ended with Lindley putting Southey back in front and he soon added his second after Chris Roberts’ dummy created the space for him. Mellor added a fourth before a mistake by the Southey keeper allowed Ryan Smith to score a second for the visitors and they should have scored a third had Jack Watson not missed a penalty. Mellor then put Todd Guest through for him to confirm Southey’s progress.

Aston Swallownest took a first half lead at Division Two Laycock Sports when Ben Winter tapped in from close range and although Scott Lyons cancelled it out early in the second half, Billy Evans won it for the Division One side midway through the second half. Ranch was another Division One side safely through as a Connor Brunt treble (Connor is pictured right celebrating later that day) saw them beat Division Two Cobden View 3-0. His first was a free kick into the top corner and his second came after Joe Woodhouse put him through. His third came after the break when he finished off a twenty pass move for the goal of the game and had it not been for Harry Shaw in the Cobden goal the winning margin would have been many more.

Another keeper to keep the score down was Crookes & District as the Division Two side was comfortably beaten 7-2 by Division One Handsworth Turf. Mario Esposito hit four for Turf to take his tally to fifteen in just four games, while Ben Shackshaft with two and Tyrone Wilson hit Turf’s others. Rob Acheson and Dave Charlton were on target for Crookes.

Along with Hallam, just one other Division Two side went through as Fox & Hounds Rangers beat fellow Division Two side Norton Oaks B 3-0. Craig Begbie scored the first from a set piece and he added a second when his corner flew straight in. Matt Wilson set up Ash Peet to score in his fifth consecutive game to complete the scoring.

DIVISION 2 - Steelers and Sharrow share the points - The day's only league game saw Steelers and Sharrow Vale share the points after a 2-2 draw. Matt Wraith gave Steelers a half time lead, but after the break a John Matterson volley and a John Bradley strike from the edge of the area put Sharrow ahead. Steelers came storming back and after practically putting the Sharrow goal under siege, Lee Slingsby scored a deserved equaliser.
