24 Feb - CBC PREMIER - Smith's first clinches it for Stannington, while Firth's back to restore Service - Simon Smith's first ever goal for CBC Premier leaders Stannington Village clinched their seven day double over second place The Vine to open up a six point gap at the top. In a first half that saw defences on top, Ben Cook hit the bar for Stannington, while James Green and Simon Blackburn went close for The Vine, but Stannington seemed to step up a gear after the break and took the lead when Lee Johnstone’s twenty yard shot found the bottom corner. The lead was doubled when Joe Barker played Sean Flynn in and victory was sealed when Dean Jepson flicked the ball on for Smith to score.

Civil Service kept their challenge going with a 4-0 victory at Handsworth Turf as Adam Firth (right) scored twice on his return to the side. Turf had a free kick well saved and the Service keeper did well to stop a Matt Jackson effort, but Service always looked in control and confirmed their victory with further goals from Gavin Wills and Ben Brown.

Stocksbridge Park Steels kept up their bid to avoid the drop when a James Smith goal rescued a point for them at home to a Southey Social just a place above them. Adam Todd gave Steels the lead when he beat two defenders and chipped the keeper, but Southey were level before the break when Shane Andrews’ run saw the ball finish at the feet of Curtis Gregory and he made no mistake. Southey went in front after the break when Danny Lindley and Needham combined to allow Rob Womack to fire home from the edge of the area. Steels looked to have blown it when Scott Birch blazed a penalty over the bar, but they gained their point when Todd set up centre half Smith to level.

DIV 1 - Whittaker puts Ranch on the road to first win, while Parks hits four for Angel  - Oliver Whittaker (far right) opened the scoring to help Ranch to their first win of the season, while Matt Parks 2nd right) scored four in leaders Woodhouse Angel's victory at Colley. Simon Staniforth scored a first half hat-trick for Niagara, but finished up on the losing side as Hemsworth Villa won it with the help of two Louis Boler strikes. Ryan Marshall rescued a point for The Park at home to Old Blue Ball, while a Carl Rodgers goal gave Bradwell Skips the points at Aston Swallownest.

Woodhouse Angel look to have the Division One title sewn up after going ten points clear with an 8-0 victory at Colley, while three of the chasing pack all dropped points. Matt Parks (left) scored four in the first half and a Tom Goodall strike made it five by the break. The second half saw Colley do better, but Angel still added three more from Luke Browse, Kirk Briddon and Lee Marshall.

The biggest shock came at bottom club Ranch as they secured their first win of the season at Oughtibridge Village’s expense. An Oliver Whittaker (right) header and a Ben Hartley volley gave Ranch a two goal lead, but an Adam Wood strike and a Ryan Campbell header drew Village level. Ranch went back in front before the break when Adam Hadfield applied the finishing touch after a cross was headed back by Steve Batty, and it turned out to be the winner as Village were unable to break down the resolute Ranch defence.

Two more of the title chasers, The Park and Old Blue Ball dropped points when they fought out a 2-2 draw with each other for the second week running. Callum Chambers gave Ball a half time lead and although it was cancelled out by an Ali Mitchell strike in the second half, the game swung Ball’s way again when Sean Frawley found the net, but just like the week before, they couldn’t hold onto the lead as Adam Battle’s cross was forced home by Ryan Marshall.

Hemsworth Villa also looked certain to come unstuck at home to Niagara after the visitors took a four goal lead with barely a quarter of the game played. Schoolboy defending allowed Simon Staniforth score a hat-trick and Craig Foster the other and Niagara might have had more before half time. The second half saw Villa get just the boost they needed when they were awarded a penalty for handball and Russ Westby tucked his spot kick away. After that Villa were camped in the Niagara half and man of the match Alex Yule pulled a second back when he headed home Mark Hopkinson’s cross and a third soon followed when Peter Burgin’s cross was headed home by Rob Smith.

There was more than a piece of good fortune about Villa’s equaliser as Louis Boler’s cross eluded everyone before finding the net, but there was nothing lucky about his winner, turning the ball home from Yule’s cross to complete a remarkable turnaround. Mark Hopkinson’s wife had given birth to a baby girl the night before, but he was still alert enough to clear off the line late on and preserve the points for Villa.

In contrast to that nine goal thriller, a single Carl Rodgers goal gave Bradwell Skips just their second win of the season at Aston Swallownest.

DIV 2 - McGuiness double sees off Norton, but top two make no mistake - Norton Oaks' Division Two title hopes took a blow as they were beaten by a Brinsworth Whitehill side that climbed above them into third. An inswinging cross was headed home by Joe McGuiness to give Brinsworth a first half lead and McGuiness doubled it in the second half when he scored from the penalty spot after he had been brought down. Coel Fulton did pull one back for Oak’s, but they badly missed their absent leading scorer Rich Gilham as chance after chance to level went begging.

Leaders Anston Athletic made no mistake with a 2-0 home win over Chapeltown RBL. Both goals came in the first half with Tom Gabbitas converting Matt Roebuck’s cross and man of the match Daniel Nelson hitting a twenty five yarder into the top corner. Chapeltown, led by Gary Turley looked a much better outfit than their second bottom placing and gave the leaders one or two scarey moments in the second half.

Second place Cobden View also made no mistake with a 4-0 victory at bottom club Sharrow Vale. Mark Hoyle scrambled home View’s first early in the game and Tom Coffey’s deflected shot made it two before half time. Mike Walker fired their third home from a tight angle, before Tom Parminter headed his first goal for two years from a Jordan Jones corner. Even better news for View was the return of Richard Lowry after an eighteen month absence due to injury

John Rhodes was outstanding as Loxley kept their challenge going with a 3-0 victory over Junior Blades. Lewis Armstrong gave Loxley a first minute lead when he headed home Anthony Marshall’s corner, but the Blades missed a golden opportunity to level when Jake Schofield blasted a penalty wide after Adam Caywood was pushed in the area. Geoff Mayfield  outjumped everyone to head home Joe Fury’s lofted cross before half time and Marshall made it three in the second half.

Crookes & District and Phoenix played out an eight goal thriller, with Crookes needing a Chris Cottyn (left) treble to rescue a point for them. Dan Commander put Phoenix ahead before Cottyn grabbed his first, and it was Crookes turn to take the lead with a Jamie Hirst piledriver. Cottyn’s second doubled Crookes’ advantage after the break, but Phoenix were awarded a penalty and although it was saved, the resulting corner was forced home by Brad Hardy. Josh Aston then levelled for Phoenix before Matt Jebson put them ahead, but Crookes got the point they deserved when Cottyn completed his hat-trick.

Another draw came from Miners Arms visit to Fox & Hounds.. Russ Barker smacked Fox’s goal home from thirty yards in the first half, but Daniel Staff finally breached the strong Fox defence in the second half to give Miners a point.

17 Feb - CBC PREMIER - Johnstone at the double to send leaders clear - A Lee Johnstone (left) double set Stannington on their way to victory over The Vine in the battle of the CBC Premier's top two and Stannington's day got even better as their former striker Jon Wall, set Redmires on their way to victory at Sheffield Civil Service. A late Craig Senior winner gave Ecclesfield Players Lounge victory over Southey Social, while Tom Crosby set Handsworth Turf on their way to a much needed victory at Pitsmoor Royal Oak and boost their chances of avoiding the drop.

A Lee Johnstone double set Stannington Village on their way to victory over The Vine in the battle of the CBC Premier's top two and Stannington's day got even better as their former striker Jon Wall, set Redmires on their way to victory at their main title rivals, Sheffield Civil Service.

There was little to choose between the sides in a goalless first half and the closest either side came was when The Vine’s Shaun Blythe had one disallowed for a push on the keeper and Chris Shirtcliffe shot over the bar when well placed, but in the second half Stannington stepped up a gear and won in style. Joe Barker set Lee Johnstone for his first and Johnstone quickly added a second. Jack Mylnek then played in Joey Alcock for Stannington’s third before Luke Mitchell wrapped up a 4-0 win with a very rare goal from distance.

Redmires are in a hot streak of form at the moment and took a deserved first half lead at Civil Service when Jon Wall found space in the penalty area before driving the ball past the keeper. Hegel Moubissie should have doubled their lead before the break when he missed a great chance, but he needn’t have worried too much as soon after the break Mikey Taylor netted Redmires second. That prompted a response from Service and they pulled one back through Wes Bamford only for Moubissie to make up for his earlier miss by restoring Redmires’ two goal lead. Service thundered back and Ben Sanderson again reduced their arrears, but the Redmires defence held firm after that to put a real dent in Service’s chances of retaining the title.

Ecclesfield Players Lounge kept their title hopes alive with victory over Southey Social, but it needed a terrific display at the back by Danny Turner for them to hold onto the points. Matt Clark put Ecclesfield ahead in the first half with a real belter from thirty five yards out, but Southey hit back in the second half and after creating, and missing, a number of chances, they finally levelled when John Mellor found the bottom corner. They weren’t level for long though as Gavin Humter’s mazy run created an opening for Craig Senior to stab the ball home and after that Turner and his defenders made sure Southey didn’t level again.

Tom Crosby set Handsworth Turf on their way to a much needed victory at Pitsmoor Royal Oak and boost their chances of avoiding the drop. Handsworth set the pace in the first half, but Joe France spurned a great chance and Carl Eaton had one saved by the Southey keeper so they went in level at the break. The second half started with Pitsmoor’s Delroy Elliott having one cleared off the line and Gavin Davis not taking a couple of chances he would normally gobble up, but when the chance fell to Handsworth Crosby, he showed Davis how to finish. Michael Briggs then found himself one-on-one with the keeper and beat him to double Handsworth’s lead before Ben Shackshaft made it three with a terrific diving header.. Oak kept plugging away and Leon Stocks headed a consolation for them late on.

DIV 1 - Simple for Simons as Angel fly seven points clear, while Lee boosts Mick and Marcus waves goodbye with a goal  - A Gareth Simons (treble) treble helped Woodhouse Angel to victory at Niagara to send them seven points clear at the top of Division One. A Chris James winner against Colley saw Handsworth Old Boys go second, while a Callum Chambers double saw Old Blue Ball lead The Park until a late Mark Townsend equaliser. Illness saw Mick Moat (2nd right) miss his first Hemsworth Villa game for an incredible 38 years, but Lee Webber hit a hat-trick to help Villa to victory at Bradwell Skips and give Mick a boost, while Marcus Pass (far right) scored a penalty on his final ever appearance in Oughtibridge Village's victory over Ranch.

The biggest landmark to fall  this weekend was Hemsworth Villa’s secretary Mick Moat’s incredible 38 year record of never missing a game, but illness, and a brief spell in hospital, meant he had to miss a Hemsworth Villa game for the first time since he helped form the team. His team did their best to give him a pick-me-up by winning 8-3 at Bradwell Skips. Lee Webber hit a hat-trick, Pete Burgin grabbed two and Alex Yule, Dean Bagley and Chris Bell one each, while Bradwell replied through an own goal, Daniel Bonnick and Marlon Catwell.

Another landmark was Oughtibridge Village’s Marcus Pass ending his career after advice from his doctor that his knees couldn’t take any further damage, and he finished off his long and successful career with a goal in a 3-0 win against Ranch, when he scored from the penalty spot after Justin Westoby had been brought down. After the Ranch keeper had kept the first half goalless with saves from Matt Cundy, Tom Redman and Adam Wood, Wood gave Village the lead in the second half when he collected Sean Lee’s header and after Pass’s penalty, Joe Appleyard completed the scoring.

A treble by player secretary Gareth Simons helped Woodhouse Angel to victory at Niagara to send them seven points clear at the top of Division One. Simons first was sandwiched between two Liam Parnell strikes as Angel raced into a three goal lead, but right on the stroke of half time Tom Staniforth pulled one back to give the home side hope. Simons grabbed his second soon after the break and although Staniforth hit his second soon after, Simons completed his hat-trick to end any thoughts of a fightback

A Liam Shipstone headers saw Handsworth Old Boys take the lead at home against Colley, but a minute before half time Faisal Miladi cancelled it out. If Colley though that would take them into the interval level they were mistaken as Handsworth went straight down to the other end and went back in front through Chris James. The second half saw Handsworth hit the bar twice and Colley hit it once, but no more goals came and the win was enough to take Handsworth up to second.

The Park went to half time at Old Blue Ball leading with a Tony Gurnhill free kick, but Callum Chambers levelled with a chip over the keeper after Morgan’s header had sent him clear and second Chambers strike, low into the bottom corner, put Ball ahead. With Oliver Matthewson dominant at the heart of the Ball defence it looked like they might hold on to win, but with just five minutes remaining Gurnhill crossed for Mark Townsend to give The Park a share of the points.

DIV 2 - Cobden hit back to close on leaders as Oaks hold leaders - Jordan Jones hit the winner as Cobden View fought back from two down to beat Loxley and close in on Division Two leaders Anston Athletic after their game with fellow title contenders Norton Oaks ended all square. Brinsworth Whitehill's promotion hopes took a blow as a George Rudd (left) treble helped Junior Blades to victory over them, but a late Simon Marcus winner against Crookes & District saw Players Lounge Athletic stay in the race. A Lee Roome double saw Fox & Hounds to victory at Phoenix, while a Jamie Wathen equaliser saw Chapletown RBL gain their first away point of the season at Miners Arms.

Division Two leaders Anston Athletic found themselves a goal down at title rivals Norton Oaks when Rich Gilham found himself one-on-one with the keeper before drilling the ball low into the bottom corner, but Anston hit back when Ben Sargeants shot deceived Tom Burnham in the Oak’s goal. Anston took the lead before the break when Tom Gabbitas’s cross was turned into his own goal by Andy Peters, but the second half was dominated by Norton and they were unlucky to take only the point given them from Gilham’s second of the game from a free kick.

Second place Cobden View’s title hopes looked to be taking a hit when two Anthony Marshall strikes saw them go into the break two down at home to Loxley. If Loxley had taken the many chances they created, the game would have been out of sight, but Cobden were given a few home truths at half time and they came out a different side in the second half. Mike Walker pulled the first back as the Loxley defence appealed in vain for offside and Mark Hoyle levelled when his free kick from forty five yards was missed by everyone and found the net. Cobden’s comeback was completed when the Loxley keeper fumbled a cross and Jordan Jones tapped the ball home for their winner.

Brinsworth Whitehill's promotion hopes took a blow as a George Rudd treble helped Junior Blades to victory over them. Rudds first came when he converted a half chance and the Blades lead was doubled when Jake Schofield curled home a free kick. Rudd made it three with a diving header and although Liam Favell pulled one back for Brinsworth after the break, Rudd’s third kept the Blades in control. Brinsworth should have pulled another back when Pearson gave a penalty away, but Dave Marrison made a terrific save. Jed McGowan did better for Brinsworth when he curled home a free kick, but Schofield curled his second into the far corner to make the points safe for the Blades.

A move that started at the back found Danny Parker out wide and his cross was sidefooted home by Scott Harrison to give Players Lounge Athletic the lead at home to Crookes & District, but the visitors hit back to level when Greg McLennan headed home and took the lead through their man of the match Chris Cottyn. Alex Evison raced onto a through ball to bring Athletic level. Athletic’s outside promotion hopes looked to be over when Ken Nedworthy put Crookes back in front, but Danny Clinton wriggled past two defenders to bring Athletic level again and they won it when Danny Marcus whipped in a cross that was met by Simon Marcus who chested the ball down before volleying the ball home. Someone else to get praise in the game was referee Paul Cooper.

Jordan Roome gave Phoenix a half time lead at home against Fox & Hound, but Fox brought on Roome’s namesake Lee Roome at half time and he repaid his manager’s faith in him by scoring two second half goals to give Fox the points. Dave Hattersley gave Chapeltown RBL the lead at Miners Arms, but it looked as if Chapeltown would still be searching for their first away point when Joe Kangley and Aiden Tazzyman strikes put Miners ahead. Just for once though with Jamie Duckworth a rock at the centre of their defence, Chapeltown stayed in the game and a Jamie Wathen equaliser saw them gain that first away point.

13 Feb - Referees for 17 Feb now shown - The referees allocated to us by the County FA for Sunday 17 Feb are now shown against the game they have been appointed to on the website. The home clubs must contact them immediately to confirm the details.

10 Feb - CBC PREMIER - Todd double sees Steels sink Turf - On yet another weekend when the fixture programme was badly affected by the weather, the two CBC Premier games that went ahead saw four of the bottom five clash in games that could have a big say in who survives. An Adam Todd (left) double helped Stocksbridge Park Steels to their second away win of the season and leave Handsworth Turf deep in relegation trouble, while Kinsley Lewin rescued a point for Queens Ground at home to Pitsmoor Royal Oak.

Handsworth Turf had worked hard on their pitch to make sure their game six-pointer in the relegation dogfight with Stocksbridge Park Steels went ahead, but their work was taken advantage of by the visitors when Kevin Davies’s pass released Mitchell Savage to give Stocksbridge the lead and Davies was again involved when Steels doubled their lead, by flicking on keeper Steven Marshall’s clearance for Adam Todd to apply a typically slick finish.

After the break, Handsworth hit back strongly and after both Andy Stevens and Kieran Gallagher had gone close a Steven corner was headed home by Fraser McNeill. Stocksbridge held their nerve though and they re-established their two goal advantage when Todd crossed for Phil Cookson to score and they made absolutely certain when Richard Gill crossed for Todd to grab his second and take the victory that took them five points clear of Handsworth.

Pitsmoor Royal Oak started better than their hosts Queens Ground and Leon Stocks should have given them the lead after twelve minutes, but missed a chance that was easier to score. Stacy Sharif did better when he had a chance soon after, but his effort produced a great save by the Queens keeper. Having survived so far Queens had an even better chance to take the lead when Callum Hawley committed a foul in the area and the referee pointed to the spot, but Jamie Cherry’s spot kick was comfortably saved by Pitsmoor keeper Gareth Harrison.

The second half saw Pitsmoor make the breakthrough when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Andrew Dawson and this time Stacy Sharif made no mistake with his spot kick. Sharif was to later blot his copybook when he received a second yellow card and Queens took full advantage to grab an equaliser when Kingsley Lewin scored with a bullet header. Pitsmoor nearly pinched all three points near the end when Stocks robbed a defender in the area, but the Queens keeper saved to make sure his side held on to  only their fourth home point of the season.

DIV 1 - Hudson harbours a promotion push  - The only Division One game to go ahead saw Oughtibridge Village travel to Niagara for a game Village had to win if they wanted to stay in the promotion race. The day didn’t start well for Village when injuries and illness meant the 43 year old Village manager Dave Hudson (right) had to pick himself, but it turned out to be a master-stroke as he showed his young guns how to finish by hitting a hat-trick as his side romped to a fourth successive victory 7-3.

Hudson did more than just score the three goals as he started by setting up Tom Fletcher to give Village the lead and although Craig Foster scored to level for Niagara, Hudson soon set up a second for Fletcher to put his side back in front. Hudson then played a part in a third goal scored by Joe Appleyard, before hitting his first. James Baker then set Hudson up for his second before Matt Cundy grabbed Village’s sixth. Ricky Parsisson pulled one back for Niagara, but to make sure that they would not get back into the game Hudson completed his hat-trick. Matt Edwards scored the game’s final goal and Craig Couldwell (left) made an appearance to keep his record of appearing at least once in every season since the club was formed, but it was Hudson’s day.

DIV 2 - Nelson & Lawton doubles see Anston open up a gap - Daniel Nelson and James Lawton both scored twice as Anston Athletic opened up a four point gap at the top of Division Two with victory over Players Lounge Athletic. Players Lounge shook the leaders early on when a long ball from Alex Evison caught the Anston defence out and the League’s leading scorer Danny Clinton raced onto it to give his side the lead. It didn’t last long though as James Saxelby crossed for Danny Nelson to equalise for the leaders and Nelson then curled one into the top corner to put his side ahead.

James Lawton then crossed for Adam Russell to extend Anston’s lead and Lawton made it 4-1 at half time when he beat a man in the area to score. After the break, Lawton pounced on a mistake by the visitor’s keeper to tap home Anston’s fifth, but Players Lounge showed they can still cause the best of team’s problems and Clinton scored his twenty fifth of the season. He almost made it twenty six when his shot hit the bar, but it did at least fall kindly for his strike partner Danny Parker to make the final score 5-3.

Up to second is Cobden View (left) after a Mike Walker double and a man of the match performance by Jordan Jones helped them to victory over Phoenix. Despite Cobden being on top for the first fifteen minutes, Phoenix showed how dangerous they could be when they broke quickly from a Cobden corner and Kieran Cull put them ahead. Cobden levelled before half time though when Mark Hoyle’s free kick, with the help of a deflection beat the Phoenix keeper.

Soon after the break Cobden took the lead when a Mike Walker cross was headed home by Jordan Jones and Jones quickly re-paid the favour by crossing for Walker to tap home from close range. Phoenix hit back and gave themselves a chance with a goal from Jordan Roome, but Cobden made the points safe when Jones was again the provider for another tap-in for Walker.

Brinsworth Whitehill’s Lewis Carder hadn't scored for five years until he hit one last weekend, but he showed it was no fluke by scoring for a second week running in Brinsworth's 3-1 victory over Miners Arms. Dale Aughton danced past two defenders before giving the ball to Carder, who showed great composure to round a defender and the keeper before putting the ball into the empty net. It stayed like that until the second half when Brian Steepleton marked his debut with a goal to double Brinsworth’s lead and when a corner wasn’t cleared properly, Aidan Kennedy hit his first of the season to make it three. Lee Swift managed to pull one back for Miner’s, but the Brinsworth defence made sure they didn’t make any further inroads into their lead.

The biggest win of the day came as Loxley showed their promotion credentials as Geoff Mayfield and Anthony Marshall (right) both scored twice in a very convincing 8-1 victory over an under strength Crookes & District. Geoff Mayfield headed both his goals to give Loxley a two goal lead and Marshall added another header to make it three. Marshall grabbed his second before Richard Dale marked his return to the side with Loxley’s fifth, before man of the match John Rhodes made it six.

Lee Wharton was doing his best to stem the tide for Crookes and his work was rewarded when Mike Dobson pulled one back. Crookes did better after the break and Loxley keeper John Denton had to make a number of saves to stop them adding to it. Loxley still managed two more for themselves though as eighteen year old Tom Storey and Steve Mayfield hit numbers seven and eight for them.

7 Feb - Hollin Bush resign - After struggling to field a side on a number of occasions, Division One Hollin Bush has now resigned from the League. All their results for this season will be expunged from the records.

3 Feb - CBC PREMIER - Flynn double keeps Stannington on title path -

A Sean Flynn (left) double helped CBC Premier leaders Stannington Village to victory over Southey Social, but staying level on points with them is The Vine after a Will Blakeney goal set them on their way to victory over Handsworth Turf. Both Bulls Head and Redmires lost ground though after they shared the spoils, but Civil Service stayed in the hunt with victory at Pitsmoor Royal Oak.

It didn’t start well for Stannington as a move between Rob Womack and John Roper got the ball out to Danny Lindley and when Dan Green tried to stop his cross reaching John Mellor he only succeeded in turning the ball into his own net. Mellor then missed a great chance to double Southey’s lead and Stannington took full advantage to level when Flynn’s shot went in off the post.

The leaders were on top now and went ahead before the break when Bill Green’s cross was met at the back post by Lee Johnstone. Southey had plenty of the ball in the second half, but it was Stannington that had the cutting edge and Flynn crossed for Josh Coulson to meet the ball at the near post to increase their lead and it was Flynn that had the final say when Adam Grainger crossed for him to score.

The Vine also found themselves behind when Matt Jackson beat the offside trap to race onto Mark Barnsley’s through ball to put Handsworth Turf ahead. Danny Seaman missed a good chance to level, but it didn’t take them long as a corner was flicked on by Shaun Blythe and Will Blakeney made no mistake. Blythe then headed The Vine ahead from a Craig Woolley long throw and the second half saw them clinch the points when Brent Heeley (right) ran down the left and Seaman slid in to meet his cross. The main bright moment for Handsworth was the return of Tom Smith after being out for a year due to injuries suffered in a car crash.

Third place Bulls Head lost ground though after they shared an eight goal thriller with in-form Redmires. Jon Wall crossed for Nick Hickson to put Redmires ahead and although Bulls Head levelled when Dave Stacey headed home Tom Cocker’s corner, Redmires were back in front before half time with a Mikey Taylor strike. The game seemed to swing Bulls Head’s way after the break when John Kentzer and Chris Peel combined to set Mark Bryant up and Peel was again involved to set up Nick Ash to put Bulls Head ahead. Redmires came back strongly though and Wall fired home to level and they looked to have won it when full back Dale White hit a real screamer to put them ahead for a third time. They couldn’t hold on though as Bulls Head made it 4-4 when man of the match Kentzer crossed for Lee Smith to volley home.

A bigger threat to the top two looks to be coming from champions Civil Service who could go top if they win their games in hand. After Pitsmoor Royal oak had dominated the first half hour it was Service that took the lead when Gaz Griffiths set up Andy Bath and although his shot came back off the bar it fell kindly to Danny Wattam to chip the stranded keeper. Carl Whitby (left) then produced an outstanding save to stop Stacy Sharif from levelling and in the second half Service secured the points when Gavin Wills crossed for Andy Bath to head home with the help of a deflection.

DIV 1 - Parnell double sees Angel have a Ball, while Old Boys Packman eats up Villa - The battle of Division One's top two saw a Liam Parnell (right) double help leaders Woodhouse Angel to victory over second place Old Blue Ball. Parnell’s first was soon followed by a Dave Kippax header to give Angel a two goal lead and although Tom Goodison pulled one back for Ball before the break, Parnell’s second in the second half made the points safe for Angel.

Another big promotion six-pointer saw Handsworth Old Boys pip Hemsworth Villa with a goal a minute from time. Villa took the lead when a foul on Lee Webber saw Russ Westby fire home the free kick and thanks to two great saves by Jack House they held onto it until half time. Handsworth came out all guns blazing after the break and Joe Walker soon put them level before Jon Packman gobbled up a chance to put Handsworth ahead. House then made two more saves to keep Villa in the game and his work look to have been rewarded when another free kick given for a foul on peter Burgin was again struck home by Westby with the help of a deflection (see first picture below). That looked to have given Villa a share of the spoils, but Handsworth weren’t to be denied and Packman turned home the winner after a long throw in caused panic in the Villa defence.

Oughtibridge Village kept their promotion hopes alive with a 3-0 victory over Niagara. James Baker set Jake Rodley up to give Village a half time lead and in the second half a Matt Cundy strike from twenty five yards was followed by a third from Joe Appleyard when he turned the ball home after Baker’s header had come back off the bar.

At the other end of the table, a Matt Meaney treble helped Colley ease any relegation fears with a 5-0 home victory against Ranch. Colley, who welcomed back keeper Denis Smith after a three year injury absence, took the lead with Meaney’s first and it was soon followed by a second from Ian Sharland (left). Joe Zipfel made it three before half time and after the break Meaney made it four with a free kick and completed his hat-trick with a chip over the keeper. Another hat-trick came from Aston Swallownest’s David Sills as they beat an understrength Bradwell Skips 4-0. Sam Thorpe grabbed Aston’s other.

DIV 2 - Lawton clincher keeps Anston on top, but Norton stay on their heels - James Lawton (right) scored the clincher as Anston Athletic stayed top of Division Two with a 2-0 victory at Crookes & District. Anston were gifted the lead after just seven minutes when a Tom Gabbitas corner was turned into his own net by a defender. A string of saves by Crookes keeper Scott Slack kept his side in the game in the first half, but even he couldn’t stop Lawton sealing the victory in the second half.

Norton Oaks stayed hot on their heels after goals from brothers Sam & Billy Ireland helped them to victory over Players Lounge Athletic. After Norton had taken the lead through Billy Ireland (left), Players Lounge levelled when Danny Clinton took the ball down before slotting home and they had the best of the rest of the first half, but the second half saw Norton take control and Jamie Marshall put them back in front before man of the match Sam Ireland made the points safe with their third.

Brinsworth Whitehill improved their promotion chances with a 6-0 victory at Chapeltown RBL. Dale Aughton made a terrific debut for Brinsworth and scored three of them, while their others came from Joe McGuiness, Liam Favell and Lewis Carder’s first for five years.

Another hat-trick came from Phoenix’s Nicky Shaw as his side beat Sharrow Vale 5-1. Dan Commander had Phoenix two up before Shaw struck his first and although Ed Bradley pulled one back Sharrow Vale, two more for Shaw in the second half saw Phoenix home. Fox & Hounds took the lead at Junior Blades when their pressure was finally rewarded with a Russ Barker goal, but Fox & Hounds missed several other chances to make the result a formality and after Dave Marrison had also made a great save to stop Junior Blades falling further behind, the Blades grabbed shared the points when Jake Schofield’s shot took a wicked deflection past the Fox keeper. It might have been even worse for the visitors had Adam Caywood not wasted a good chance in the final minute.
