30 Oct 2011 - CBC PREMIER - Vine go top as Josh stays cool to topple Service -  Green Lane Ecclesfield saw the clash of two of the CBC Premier’s unbeaten sides, with leaders Civil Service entertaining a Stannington Village yet to drop a point and it was Civil Service that drew first blood when a Gavin Wills corner was headed into the top corner by Gareth Griffiths.

Stannington’s response saw a Jonathan Wall free kick met by Dean Jepson but he could only glance his header wide and with the remainder of the first half seeing both teams cancelling each other out with the majority of the game being fought out in midfield.

The second half saw Stannington begin to push the Service defence backwards and it looked as if they would equalise when Jon Wall met Jack Mylnek’s cross, but Steve Warrington threw himself across goal to deny them. It would almost be his last involvement in the game though as he had to give way to an ankle injury and with Service’s other keeper Carl Whitby still on his honeymoon, it meant midfielder Paul Billard having to take over in goal. Service was still a threat coming forward though and only a good stop by Stannington keeper Nathan Ryan stopped sub Andrew Ogden increasing Service’s lead.

With time running out Stannington pushed full back Jack Mylnek up front and his presence helped create the equaliser. Keeper Ryan’s long kick up field was flicked on by Dean Jepson and with Mylnek drawing defenders to him, Jonathan Wall nipped in to score.

Both teams went for the winner after that and Gareth Griffiths had a chance for Service, but his shot went straight at Ryan and when Service did get the ball past him Lee Johnstone threw himself to block Chris Fowler’s shot on the line.

Stannington were also having their moments and in the second minute of injury time grabbed the winner when Sean Flynn tucked the ball inside for Dean Jepson to run on to and when he reached the goal line he pulled the ball back for Josh Coulson to send Billard the wrong way and the ball into the bottom corner.

That gave The Vine the chance to go top and they made no mistake at struggling Hemsworth Villa. Josh Conner put Rikki Davidson thorugh to give The Vine the lead and after Davidson and Danny Seaman shots had been blocked in quick succession, Connor followed up to score at the third attempt. Seaman was brought down by Neil Furniss to allow Davidson to score from the penalty spot, but Villa never gave up and Alex Yule set Mark Sanderson up to reduce the arrears. Any thoughts of a Villa comeback were quickly swept away though when Will Blakeney set Dan Bateman up for The Vine’s fourth and despite Pete Burgin crossing for Yule to head a second for Villa, The Vine held on to go top for the first time. Action from the game is shown below:

Handsworth Turf were Savaged by Mitchell Savage (pictured right) as his hat-trick helped Stocksbridge Park Steels to their first points of the season. Savage’s first two came inside the first twenty minutes and although Keiron Gallagher pulled one back for Turf before the break and Adam Johnson almost levelled after the break, Nick Ward broke away to extend Steels lead before Savage wrapped up the points with his third.

Ben Nicholson and John Mellor both scored twice as Southey Social beat Ecclesfield Players Lounge. Ecclesfield started the stronger and deservedly took the lead through Craig Senior and he almost doubled their lead before having to give way to injury. Southey eventually got into their stride and levelled with Nicholson’s first and they quickly added two more from Mellor and Danny Lindley. Matt Clarke’s header from a set piece reduced the arrears after the break, but Nicholson quickly added Southey’s fourth. Another set piece saw Danny Turner again put Ecclesfield back in the game, but Southey stepped up a gear again and clinched it when Chris Roberts celebrated his birthday with a goal and a Mellor penalty after Lindley had been brought down in the area.

Mikey Taylor also scored twice as Redmires beat Yew Tree to climb into the top half of the table. Nick Hickson headed Redmires into a first half lead and Dave Knaggs expertly taken free kick extended it soon after the break. Taylor then rounded the keeper to score his first for the club and he quickly added his second before Michael Vella netted his first for the club and Redmires fifth.

After a goalless first half, Laycock Sports took the lead at Pitsmoor Royal Oak with a Steve Morris strike, but the home side levelled when Rob Shelley crossed for Stacy Sharif to head home and Pitsmoor then took the lead when Shelley fired home. They couldn’t hold on to it though and Laycocks levelled with a Nick Owen penalty late in the game.

DIV 1 - Draper double fitting for Aston -  Niagara lost ground in the title race as they let a two goal lead slip before losing 3-2 at an Aston Swallownest now firmly in the title race. Daniel Cooper and a Danny Bainbridge header gave Niagara the early advantage, but Ian Draper pulled one back before the break. Niagara had a great chance to restore their two goal advantage when they were awarded a penalty, but the normally reliable Bainbridge crashed his effort against the bar. Aston took advantage and levelled soon after the break when Draper tapped home from close range and it looked as if that’s how it would end, but in the final minutes after Cooper had hit a post an Adam Smith corner was bundled into his own goal by the Niagara keeper to gift Aston all three points. There was less drama at Throstles who stepped up their own title challenge with a single Michael Simpson goal being enough for them to beat Anston Athletic.

Fairbank-Rhodes maintained their lead at the top of Division One when they romped to a 6-0 victory at Brinsworth Whitehill. Scott Whittington put them ahead and James Hughes added a second before an own goal extended it further before half time. Whittington started the second half as he had the first by scoring and man-of-the-match Scott Abramski came up from the back to add their fifth before Chris Burgoyne completed the scoring.

Bulls Head are hot on their heals though after they had a convincing 7-3 victory at Colley FC. Although Nick Ash grabbed three of Bulls goals, he was beaten to the man-of-the-match award by Chris Peel for his two goals and two assists, while their others came from an Alan Mowforth chip and Mark Bryant’s deflected free kick. Colley goals came from Lee Grocock and a Daniel Lloyd double.

Loxley also had keeper trouble as their keeper allowed a Chris Wajs free kick to slip through his arms and into the net for Ranch to take the lead and Richard Honeyman doubled it soon after. Loxley pulled one back when Anthony Marshall was felled in the area and Geoff Mayfield scored from the spot and after half time Marshalled levelled when he scored with a great header with his back to goal. Loxley then took the lead when Danny Jones’ miscued shot fell kindly for him to turn and fire home, but they could hold on and after Richard Berry brought the home side level, Ranch won it with a Breon Fogarty strike late on.

DIV 2 - The Park stay top and a James double helps Handsworth up to second -  In Division Two, The Park stay top with victory over Hollin Bush, but it might have been a very different scoreline had Sam Kirk not saved Simon Major’s penalty when The Park were leading 1-0. Tony Gurnhill crossed for Calvin Thomas to give The Park the lead and after the break Mark Townsend sealed the points for The Park.

Up to second is Handsworth Old Boys after coming from behind to win at promotion rivals Oughtibridge Village. Lee Bridge put Village ahead, but a Chris James penalty brought Handsworth level before half time and in the second half Shane Rollinson put the visitors ahed. When Bridges grabbed his second it looked as if Village would take a point, but James grabbed his second to enable Handsworth to climb above their hosts.

Christian Rowe's strike gave Old Blue Ball victory at Chapeltown RBL, but with David Adams outstanding their hosts made them fight all the way. Callum Chambers and Reece McLandless goals were equalled by Mark Wragg and Joe Hindmarsh strikes, but Rowe’s goal for Ball proved decisive in a match where referee Tony Clubb received plenty of praise.

Crookes & District found themselves behind to Gareth Morley and Mitchell Edwards goals for Old Harrow, but Crookes were given a lifeline back when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Chris Cottyn and  it was put away by Sam Firth. Firth then grabbed an equaliser before half time and then put his side ahead soon after the break. With Tom Eisenhut at the centre of most good things, Crookes were now well on top and they added further goals from Matt West, Johnny Butler and Cottyn.

Tom Wray (pictured left) was another hat-trick hero as Sharrow Vale also came from behind to beat Players Lounge Athletic. Centre Half Simon Marcus gave Athletic the lead, but two from Wray and one from John Matterson had Vale 3-1 up by half time. Marcus grabbed a second to reduce the arrears, but Wray completed his hat-trick to wrap up the points for Vale.

23 Oct 2011 - CBC PREMIER - Ten man Turf bring Service run to an end - Leaders Civil Service dropped their first points of the season when they were held to a draw by a Handsworth Turf that had to play for the last hour with ten men. Matt Holmes was a colossus at the heart of the Turf defence and when man-of-the-match Joe France crossed for Mario Esposito to give the ten men the lead in the second half it looked like they might end Service’s unbeaten record, but they were peppering the Turf goal and finally managed to salvage a point when sub Wes Bamford found the net.

James Marshall (pictured left) saved a penalty as The Vine jumped up to second by keeping their all-win record going with a single goal victory at Yew Tree. Danny Seaman and Rikki Davidson both spurned chances in the first half, but when Jamie Moore played a neat one-two with Seaman, Moore hit what would be the games only goal. Yew Tree responded and when Shaun Blyth committed a foul in the area, it needed Marshall’s brilliant save to stop them conceding their first away goal and win the game.

Stocksbridge’s miserable run continued when they lost 3-2 at home to Redmires. Nick Hickson headed Redmires into an early lead and they doubled it before half time when Dave Knaggs crossed for Dave Booth to head home. It got worse for Steels soon after the break when Knaggs cut in from the wing to add a third for Redmires, but Steels finally got themselves together and Adam Todd pulled one back before Wayne Hughes gave Redmires an uncomfortable last few minutes.

DIV 1 - It's a good Knight for new leaders Fairbank -  Fairbank-Rhodes went to the top of the Division One table with a 1-0 victory over Bulls Head, but again needed keeper James Abramski to be on top form.  Joe Knight scored the only goal of the game, but Bulls Head had dominated the game for long periods, hitting the woodwork four times. They couldn’t find a way past Fairbank keeper James Abramski though, including a penalty brilliantly save. Fairbank held on and with just minutes remaining Mark Barnsley crossed for Knight to head the winner.

DIV 2 - Gurnhill treble helps The Park to the top -  Division Two also has new leaders after Tony Gurnhill’s hat-trick helped The Park to a 7-2 victory over promotion rivals Crookes & District. Ricardo Stewart and Mark Townsend goals gave The Park an early two goal lead, but Matt West put Chris Cottyn in to reduce the arrears for Crookes. Gurnhill’s first restored The Park’s two goal lead, but Greg McClennan again put Crookes back into the game before half time. After the break though The Park took control and Stewart added his second before Gurnhill added his second and third and Adam Collins finished off the scoring.

Level on points with The Park is Handsworth Old Boys after after Liam Parnell put sub Chris James through to score the games only goal at Players Lounge Athletic. Also level on points with the leaders is Junior Blades after they missed their chance to go top by drawing at Old Harrow. Gareth Morley netted for Harrow but a Jake Schofield penalty earned the Blades their point.

SENIOR SUNDAY CUP - Southey's Pitts-start sees off Greenhill -  Southey Social also rounded off a good week for them by coming from behind to beat Greenhill White Hart. Greenhill broke quickly to grab an early lead, but Southey soon levelled when the smallest man on the pitch, Gavin Pitts, headed home. Chris Roberts crossed for Simon Jebson to give Southey a half time lead and Danny Lindley linked up with Todd Guest to create a third for Roberts. Greenhill did grab a second in the final minute but Southey held on.

Leon Stocks had a hand in all three goals as Pitsmoor Royal Oak pulled off a terrific 3-1 win at Groves Social in the Senior Sunday Cup. Stocks was brought down in the area and Craig Graham stepped up to give Pitsmoor a fifth minute lead and they doubled it after just fifteen minutes when Stocks crossed for Dean Forman to volley home. Groves pulled one back before half time, but any Pitsmoor nerves were settled when Stocks set up Delroy Elliott for the clincher.

They are joined in the last thirty two by Stannington Village who had a comfortable 4-1 home win over Phoenix. Jon Wall scored two of them while their others came from Sean Flynn and Sami Eric. Hemsworth Villa gave a brave performance before two mistakes gave Brownes Bar a 2-0 victory and an understrength Ecclesfield Players Lounge went out 4-0 at JSS Pot. Laycock Sports tie against Adam & Eve was abandoned with Laycocks leading 3-1. Action from Hemsworth Villa v Brownes Bar is below:

JUNIOR SUNDAY CUP - Mitchell's high five as six go through -  Ali Mitchell (pictured right) hit five as Division Two Oughtibridge Village beat White Rose Wanderers 7-0, with the other two coming from Lee Smith and Ian Phillips, while Craig Foster grabbed a hat-trick as Niagara won their all-Blades Super Draw tie with Chapeltown RBL 8-3. Danny Bainbridge hit two and Ben Dronfield, Chris Smith and Scott Fitzgerald one each while Chapeltown’s replies came from Dan Lazenby, David Adams and Sam Walsh

Another all-Blades Super Draw tie saw Ranch win a seven goal thriller against Highfield Old Crown. All the goals came in the second half, with the lead changing hands three times. Tom Hartley put Ranch ahead, but two penalties by Eddie McErlain put Crown in front. Steve Batty knew little about it when Ranch’s second went into the net off his back, but Crown went back in front through Stuart Underwood. Ranch levelled again when Hartley’s shot was deflected past the keeper and another deflected shot by Chris Hall finally won it for Ranch.

The third all-Blades Super Draw tie saw Queens Ground gain a comfortable 3-0 victory at Woodhouse Angel. James Ronksley gave them a first half lead and it was doubled soon after the break by Gareth Hague. Angel twice went close to reducing the arrears, but the tie was put beyond doubt when Nathaniel Foster rounded the keeper to score his side’s third. Action from the game is shown below:

Old Blue Ball joined them in Round Four with the help of a Callum Chambers double in a 4-2 victory at Castle Athletic. Those goals put Ball two up and although Castle levelled before half time, goals by Christian Rowe and Marcus O’Malley saw Ball through. Hollin Bush are also through after their 2-0 home win over Devonshire Arms. Matt Dickinson set Coles Starkes up to chip the keeper for the first and Starkes then turned provider for Rob Clowes to make the game safe.

Chris Hunt, Chris Brown and Dan Wilkinson all scored as Colley WMC gave a good account of themselves before going down 5-3 at The Chantrey Arms and John Matterson and Tom Wray goals weren’t enough to stop Sharrow Vale going out at home against City Taxis new Inn. Brinsworth Whitehill also went out 3-0 at Earl Marshall

21 Nov - DIV 1 - Colley suffer from a late Knight -  After needing keeper James Abramski (second left) to be on top form, Fairbank-Rhodes won by a flattering 5-0 at Colley as Joe Knight (far left) helped himself to a hat-trick in the last fifteen minutes.

Hilton Stratford-Smith gave Fairbank-Rhodes a half time lead when he collected the ball on the edge of the area before hitting a left foot shot past the Colley keeper, but after the break it was Fairbank keeper James Abramski that was the busiest and only a string of saves and missed chances stopped Colley from turning the game on it's head. His brother Scott was also a rock in the centre of the Fairbank defence, but it was very much against the run of play when Knight doubled Fairbank's lead with just fifteen minutes remaining.

That seemed to knock the stuffing out of the home side and Mitchell Robinson crossed for Knight to head his second before a quick break saw Scott Whittington cut the ball back for Knight to complete his hat-trick. The scoring was completed when Fairbank were awarded a penalty that was expertly put away by Andy Baxter, but it was a result that didn't reflect how close the game had really been.

19 Oct 2011 - Back to front Mellor helps Southey through -  Back in his normal forward role after a spell in defence, John Mellor (pictured right) scored one and set up two as Southey Social took a step toward Bramall Lane when they came from behind to win an absorbing Macron Cup tie at last season's finalists Stocksbridge Park Steels.

With both sides producing top quality football it needed both keepers to be at their best, with a brilliant Andy Guest save being the best of the night to keep the first half goalless. After the break it was Steels that took the lead when John Ward fired home, but Southey quickly responded and after a move down the left, John Mellor cut the ball back for Rob Womack to find the bottom right hand corner.

Mellor was back up front after having to fill in as a defender in recent games and he showed that he has lost none of his sharpness when he hit a great shot to put Southey ahead and although Steels put the Southey defence under real pressure, Steels urgency to get an equaliser left them vulnerable to a break and when Danny Lindley passed from right to left Mellor cut inside before his pass allowed Chris Roberts to clinch Southey's visit to The Vine in the last sixteen.

The full revised draw for Round 3 to be played on 6 Nov is: Ecclesfield Players Lounge v Redmires; Fairbank-Rhodes v Pitsmoor Royal Oak; Hollin Bush v Oughtibridge Village; Laycock Sports v Hemsworth Villa; Old Blue Ball v The Park; Old Harrow Grenoside v Brinsworth Whitehill; Stannington Village v Civil Service; The Vine v Southey Social

16 Oct 2011 - CBC PREMIER - Danny is Turf's boy as Oak get lost in France -  Doubles by Joe France and Danny Leesley saw Handsworth Turf twice come from behind to beat Pitsmoor Royal Oak in the day's only CBC Premier game.

The one CBC Premier game to survive the demands of the Steel City derby saw FC Handsworth Turf and Pitsmoor Royal Oak produce an eight goal thriller that saw the home side twice come from behind to take the points. Pitsmoor was the first to strike when a through ball from midfield put Stacy Sharif through and although the defenders appealed in vain for offside, he kept his nerve to score.

Turf responded with an equaliser when full back Andy Stevens played Joe France (pictured right) in, but it didn’t stay like that for long though as Pitsmoor grabbed the lead back when Leon Stocks produced an exquisite chip that Turf keeper Jamie King got his hands to but couldn’t keep out. Turf hit back and almost levelled three times in one move, but their pressure finally told and it was the same Stevens – France combination that saw France grab his second to send the teams in level at the break.

Boosted by that second equaliser, Turf had the bit between their teeth now and a quick goal kick saw Smith feed France and when his cross came in, Jack Hall’s dummy allowed the ball to find Danny Leesley and he produced a cool finish to put Turf ahead. That lead was soon doubled when Leesley and Hall combined to set Robert Pratt up to score.

Pitsmoor didn’t give up though and when Stocks picked the ball up in midfield, he played the ball wide to Delroy Elliott before advancing tomeet his cross and Stocks hit an unstoppable volley from the edge of the area to reduce the arrears. Only a great save by King stopped Stocks completing his hat-trick and grabbing an equaliser for Pitsmoor, but as Pitsmoor pushed harder for a leveller they were inevitably hit on the break and Leesley wrapped up the points for Turf with just three minutes remaining when he curled his shot into the top corner. The win saw Turf climb three places into the top half of the table, but left Pitsmoor just a place above the drop zone.

DIV 1 - Triple Treble as Niagara hit Brinsworth for ten -  Ben Dronfield, Daniel Cooper and Danny Bainbridge all hit hat-tricks as Niagara won 10-1 at Brinsworth Whitehill. An Ian Draper double set Aston Swallownes on their way to victory over Woodhouse Angel and Lee Struggles hit a late equaliser for Loxley as they came from 3-1 down to claim a point.

Division One saw a real rarity as three players all scored second half hat-tricks as Niagara went joint top with a 10-1 victory at Brinsworth Whitehill. Niagara only led by a Craig Foster goal at half time, but they ran riot in the second half with man of the match Ben Dronfield, Daniel Cooper and Danny Bainbridge all collecting hat-tricks, with Brinsworth’s sole consolation coming from Jamie Radford.

Leaders Queens Ground were surprisingly held by second bottom Loxley. Geoff Mayfield gave Loxley an early lead from the penalty spot, but a Jamie Cherry strike had Queens level by half time and it looked like the leaders would take maximum points when Cherry added his second and Gareth Hague a third from the penalty spot after Joe Furey had conceded a penalty, but Loxley made a couple of changes and fought back. Sub Steve Mayfield set up Mick Smith for the sort of chance he never misses and another sub Lee Struggles grabbed an equaliser.

Just behind the top three is Aston Swallownest after they returned to form with a 4-1 victory over bottom club Woodhouse Angel. It might have been a different story if Scott Hall had not made a brilliant penalty save early on and Aston took full advantage of his work with two goals from Ian Draper, a header from David Sills and an Adam Smith strike, while Angel’s consolation came from Matt Blackburn.

DIV 2 - Firth and Cottyn doubles stun Bush -  Doubles by both Sam Firth and Chris Cottyn gave Crookes & District victory in a seven goal thriller with Hollin Bush

The Friday night top of the table clash in Division Two saw Old Blue Ball continue their impressive early form by ending Division Two leaders Oughtibridge Village’s unbeaten record. From the off it was Old Blue Ball that took the game to an unusually slow starting Oughtibridge Village and Callum Chambers opened up the scoring for Ball from close range. Ball continued to grow in confidence and a snap chance saw Chambers double their lead. Ball entered dreamland when skipper josh Jones added to leave Ball leading 3-0 at half time.

After the break both sides worked their socks off, but as the game went on Oughtibridge’s Lee Bridges experience started to show. Matt Cundy pulled one back for Oughtibridge and when a Richard Hirst long throw was turned into his own goal by a defender it gave Ball a last few nervous minutes, but despite a few close calls amid further pressure by Village, Ball held on.

Up to second is Junior Blades after they came from a goal down to win at Chapeltown RBL. Simon Blantern poked the ball home amid offside claims to give Chapeltown the lead and they had their keeper to thank for a penalty save from Midza Luwe’s spot kick to keep the lead til half time. After the break though Adam Whittaker popped up at the back post to level things up and the Blades went in front when Luwe made up for his penalty miss. Andrew Pearson headed the ball down for Whittaker to extend the Blades’ lead, but Chapeltown got back into the game with a Robert Portman strike that keeper Dave Marrison looked to have covered. Marrison’s blushes were saved though as his defence stayed secure for the rest of the game.

Crookes & District went joint third when they came out on top in a seven goal thriller with Hollin Bush. Sam Firth gave Crookes the lead only for Cole Starkes to set Owen Clark up for an equaliser, but right on the stroke of half time Crookes went back in front with a Chris Cottyn goal and the second half wasn’t too old when man of the match Firth netted his second. Bush hit back strongly after that and Kevin Bly smashed the ball home following a scramble in the six yard box and when Carl Coult equalised it looked like they might go on to win it, but all their hard work was undone when Cottyn pounced for his second to steal the points for Crookes.

Old Harrow Grenoside finally converted their good cup form into the league to gain their first three points of the season with a local derby victory over Colley WMC. Centre back Andy Allen pounced in the first minute to give Harrow the lead, but Colley went on to dominate the half and right on the stroke of half time deservedly levelled through Chris Hunt. Colley continued to dominate after the interval so it was very much against the run of play when Jordan Broadbent restored Harrow’s lead, but Colley once again deservedly levelled a with a Steve Davis cannon. They looked like getting at least the point they deserved, but in the final minute Allen was on hand to pinch a winner for Old Harrow.

15 Oct 2011 - Sad news about a former champion -  The League was saddened to hear that one of its former champions, Danny Boulding, aged just 33, has passed away after a short illness. After joining Crosspool at the age of 14, Danny, was a very popular part of the young side that joined the League in 1995 and went on to be Division 1 champions (pictured right - Danny is second right on the bottom row) in 1999, League champions in 2000 and Merit Cup winners in both 2000 & 2001. His Crosspool manager, Pete Mabson, said "It is terrible news about a lad that was the very heartbeat of the club and he will be sorely missed by everyone that knew him". Danny leaves a wife and son aged 4 - our hearts and thoughts go out to them.

14 Oct 2011 - DIV 2 - Ball leave Village feeling Blue -  Two Callum Chambers goals and one by Josh Jones, all in the first half, proved just enough for Old Blue Ball to maintain their impressive start to the season and end Division Two leaders Oughtibridge Village's unbeaten record. Village hit back with two goals in the second half, but Ball held on to win 3-2.

9 Oct 2011 - Fixtures on 23 October -  After the draws for Round 3 of the County FA Cups have been made later this week, our league fixtures will be amended. Until that has happened all clubs should assume they will have a fixture on that date.

9 Oct 2011 - COUNTY FA SENIOR SUNDAY CUP - Turf are Hunted down as six go through -  In Round Two of the County FA Senior Cup, the all-Blades Super Draw tie saw a Gavin Hunter (pictured right) strike enable Ecclesfield Players Lounge to just pip Handsworth Turf 2-1. A long clearance fell conveniently for Craig Senior to give Ecclesfield a first half lead and although Ben Shackshaft went close and Sheridan Wilkes hit the bar, Handsworth were still behind at the break. The second half was only two minutes old though when Robert Pratt levelled when he caught the Ecclesfield defence napping with a quickly taken free kick, but it was Ecclesfield that went through when Hunter chipped the keeper for the winner.

Despite falling behind twice, Stannington Village secured the best victory, 5-2 at home against High Green. The visitors took an early lead with a 25 yard rocket, but when Josh Coulson’s deflected shot fell nicely for Jon Wall he levelled in off a post. Another long range strike saw High Green go back in front, but Stannington levelled a second time when Wall set up Dean Jepson. Coulson then put Stannington ahead before Bill Green set up Jepson to volley his second and Sean Flynn rounded the keeper to complete the scoring.

Sam Reid’s first half goal and Steve Morris’s second half penalty saw Laycock Sports go through at Brampton Rovers and Hemsworth Villa also went through away from home at Ecclesall Dogs. Alex Yule pounced on a loose ball to give them the lead and Russ Westby scored direct from a corner to double it before half time. Ecclesall pulled one back in the second half, but a commanding performance by Villa skipper Robert Smith kept his side in front.

Southey Social also won away from home at Norton. Andre Jackson gave Southey a first half lead and John Mellor doubled it in the second half with an overhead kick following a corner. Norton pulled one back with a few minutes remaining, but Southey never looked like letting victory slip.

Despite two goals from Stacy Sharif and one each from Craig Graham and Luke Parwana, Pitsmoor Royal Oak was still level with Woodhouse Junction after extra time, but Oak held their nerve in the penalty shoot-out to go through. A Rikki Davidson goal wasn’t enough to stop The Vine going down 2-1 at local rivals Mosborough and although Redmires led at Arundel Ex-Servicemens with a Dave Booth goal they eventually went out to late goals by the home side.

COUNTY FA JUNIOR SUNDAY CUP - Queens get first Ada, while Tom's the boy for Sharrow -  In the County FA Junior Sunday Cup, Adrian Tomlin (pictured right) scored a hat-trick of headers to put Queens Ground in charge at AFC Phoenix. Tomlin then added two more along with others from David Hook, Josh Bermingham and James Ronksley as Queens ran out 8-0 winners. Almost as impressive was Niagara’s 7-1 victory at Heeley. Danny Bainbridge helped himself to a hat-trick despite missing a first half penalty, while Craig Foster and Dan Cooper doubles provided Niagara’s others.

Brinsworth Whitehill had to thank keeper Jamie Rooney for his man-of-the-match display to enable them to go through with a late goal from Todd Gray. Richard Berry headed Ranch into the lead against Sheffield Titans and he poked home a second to give them a two goal advantage at half time. Tom Hartley prodded home a third after the break, meaning Titan’s late penalty was of no consequence.

Division Two Sharrow Vale caused one of the day’s biggest shocks when they put out Division One Colley with the help of a Tom Wraith treble, while another all-Blades Super Draw tie saw Hollin Bush go through at Junior Blades expense. Tyrone Wilson set Cole Starkes up for the opener and although Luke Madden’s strike for the Blades took the game into extra time, Wilson was again the provider for Owen Clarke to hit Bush’s winner. After the referee failed to turn up for the game, Bush’s Chris Garlick refereed the game and despite losing the game, the Blades were full of praise for his performance.

Another all-Blades Super Draw tie went even further as it took penalties before Highfield Old Crown beat Players Lounge Athletic. Danny Marcus, Scott Marcus, Tom Vickers and an own goal for Players Lounge were cancelled out by Stuart Underwood and Andy Theakston doubles, so it was left for Crown keeper Keiron Wilson to make a vital penalty save and Gary Wilkins to hit the winning spot kick.

Division Two Chapeltown RBL also had a good win at local rivals Ecclesfield Red Rose with Jay Wragg, Mark Wragg, Joe Hindmarsh, Dave Hattersley and Brett Simms goals giving Chapeltown a 5-2 victory, while a Chris Hunt double and one from Richard Firth gave another Division Two side, Colley WMC, victory in their best performance of the season at Wincobank Hotel.

James Baker’s lob and Sean Lee’s strike from the edge of the area gave Oughtibridge Village victory at Heeley and Callum Chambers, Mikey Thompson and Shaun Frawley goals gave Old Blue Ball a home win against The Mill. Kyle Smith and Matt Blackburn goals put Woodhouse Angel two up at FC Darnall and although the home side hit back to level with little more than a minute remaining there was still time for Smith to hit his second and win it for Angel.

Despite a Chris Cottyn double, Crookes & District went out to a late goal by Cosywarm, while Loxley were their own worst enemies as they missed a whole hatful of chances before a late goal gave Castle Athletic victory. Bulls Head also suffered a narrow defeat at The Bridge and Handsworth Old Boys gave a good performance before late goals gave Hackenthorpe Villa victory over them.

Aston Swallownest went down at home to Devonshire Arms and even though Throstles took the lead with a Ryan Lawson penalty, they went out at home to Rawson Spring. The Park looked to be in control when Tony Gurnhill and Adam battle goals gave them a two goal half-time lead, but Wharncliffe hit back after the break to lead 3-2. David Nash then hit a late leveller for The Park and they took the lead in extra time with a Mark Townsend goal, but Wharncliffe levelled again and won the resulting penalty shoot-out.

CBC PREMIER - Bath cleans up as Service go top -  In the day’s only league game, Civil Service took over at the top of the CBC Premier when they made it six wins out of six when by defeating Yew Tree for the first time in five attempts. With a hand in all four goals, the architect of the victory was Paul Billard (pictured left). The nearest they came in the first half was when Adam Firth hit a post, but once Andy Bath put them ahead in the second half there was only going to be one winner. Billard set up Gavin Wills to score in the top corner, before Danny Fowler added a third and Ben Brown the fourth.

3 Oct 2011 - MACRON CUP ROUND 3 DRAW - Four all-CBC Premier ties see favourites face each other -  The Macron Cup holders Civil Service have the toughest possible draw as they travel to current CBC Premier leaders Stannington Village, while Ecclesfield Players Lounge play host to Redmires, Laycock Sports entertain Hemsworth Villa and The Vine entertain Stocksbridge Park Steels or Southey Social. The other CBC Premier side through, Pitsmoor Royal Oak, face a tricky tie at Division One Fairbank-Rhodes. There is certain to be two Division Two clubs in the last eight from two all-Division Two ties, with Hollin Bush entertaining Oughtibridge Village and Old Blue Ball entertaining The Park. They could be joined by another Division Two side, Old Harrow Grenoside as the entertain Division One Brinsworth Whitehill.

The full draw is: Ecclesfield Players Lounge v Redmires; Fairbank-Rhodes v Pitsmoor Royal Oak; Hollin Bush v Oughtibridge Village; Laycock Sports v Hemsworth Villa; Old Blue Ball v The Park; Old Harrow Grenoside v Brinsworth Whitehill; Stannington Village v Civil Service; The Vine v Stocksbridge Park Steels or Southey Social

2 Oct 2011 - MACRON CUP - Old Blue Ball, Old Harrow and The Park all cause shocks -  Division Two will have five clubs in the next round after Old Blue Ball, Old Harrow and The Park all defeated Division One opponents, while Oughtibridge Village narrowly won at Players Lounge Athletic and, helped by a Cole Starkes treble, Hollin Bush beat Colley WMC 6-1. Another hat-trick came from Craig Senior as CBC Premier Ecclesfield Players Lounge saw off Division One Niagara and The Vine's Danny Seaman also grabbed a treble as his side hit five goals in extra time to beat fellow CBC Premier side Yew Tree, while the other all-CBC Premier tie saw bottom club Hemsworth Villa finally have some joy as Alex Yule's double helped them to victory at Handsworth Turf.

The biggest shock came at the League’s bottom club Old Harrow Grenoside as they put out the highly rated Aston Swallownest with a single Mitchell Edwards header in the first half. Aston just couldn’t break down the home side’s defence and Harrow almost doubled the size of their victory when Richard Ashton hit a post.

The most impressive of the shocks was The Park’s 5-1 thrashing of Throstles. The Park led at half time courtesy of an own goal and although Paul Hollister levelled, they were soon behind again when Mark Townsend scored. Sub Ryan Campbell quickly added a third before he set Tony Gurnhill up for the fourth. Man-of-the-match Mark Townsend completed the scoring with his second of the game.

Josh Jones was the star man for Old Blue Ball as they came from behind to see off Queens Ground. When Nathaniel Foster netted his eleventh goal of the season to put Queens ahead it looked like they would have a comfortable win, but Ball dug in and deservedly levelled before half time through Callum Chambers. That put Ball in control and they dominated the second half before winning it with a Christian Rowe strike.

Two other Division Two clubs join them in the next round came from two all-Division Two ties. Owen Clarke with two and Andy Potts had already put Hollin Bush in charge of their tie with Colley WMC before a Cole Starkes hat-trick finished them off. All Colley had to show was a Gary West penalty.

Oughtibridge Village were strong favourites at Players Lounge Athletic and it looked to be going to form when Tom Fletcher and Justin Westoby strikes gave Village a two goal half time, but their hosts hit back to reduce the arrears when Aaron Parker took advantage of Lewis Barnes quick free kick and only two goal line clearances stopped them forcing extra time.

The Vine’s Danny Seaman hit a hat-trick as his side netted five goals in extra time to win their all-CBC Premier tie against Yew Tree. There was little sign of the goal feast to come before Seaman collected Craig Woolley’s pass to put The Vine ahead with less than fifteen minutes remaining. It looked like it would be enough until Richard Gill headed home Phil Cookson’s corner in the final minute, but Tree probably wished they hadn’t as their visitors ran riot in extra time. Jamie Moore started the spree before Seaman’s second. Dan Bateman added The Vine’s fourth and Aurfan Hussain their fifth before Seaman completed his hat-trick.

Ecclesfield Players Lounge’s Craig Senior also hit three in his CBC Premier side’s victory over Division One Niagara. Danny Turner headed Ecclesfield into the lead and Senior doubled it before the break. Danny Bainbridge pulled one back for Niagara from the penalty spot but another Senior strike and one from Gavin Hunter put the home side in control. Ryan Sorby grabbed a second for Niagara, but Paul Bashforth set Senior up to complete his hat-trick and complete the scoring.

Redmires knew they had a tricky tie at Division One leaders Bulls Head and they must have feared the worst when John Kentzer put Bull ahead, but Redmires hit back to lead at half time through Nick Hickson’s volley and a Dale White strike. Rob Gardiner scored a third to give Redmires some breathing space and they needed it as Kerry Dixon netted a second for Bull in a frantic finale.

Hemsworth Villa put their poor league form behind them to win their all-CBC Premier tie at Handsworth Turf with the help of two Alex Yule (pictured right) strikes. Mario Esposito almost put Turf ahead early on and he turned provider for Joe France to outpace the Villa defence and put Turf ahead. Villa hit back before the break and Tom McIlvanney (number 9 turning after scoring) marked his debut with the equaliser and they took the lead in the second half with Yule’s first. Jack Hall then scored a terrific header (2nd picture below) to bring the sides level again and extra time looked likely until Liam Pigott popped up to hit Villa’s winner. More action from the game is below.

The Macron Cup holders Civil Service started where they left off with Andy Bath (pictured right) hitting a real screamer to put them ahead at Division One Loxley. Adam Firth’s cheekily taken quick free kick doubled their advantage and Lee Wild hit a third before the break. Loxleys’ man-of-the-match Nick Cardin pulled one back after the break, but any thoughts of a fightback disappeared when Wild grabbed his second.

Another to hit two was Nick Owen as he helped Laycock Sports come from behind to win at Woodhouse Angel. Owen gave Laycock’s an early lead but their Division One hosts hit back through Gareth Simons and Chris Towey to lead at the break. The second half belonged to Laycocks though and Owen set Sam Reid up to level before Will Earle put them ahead. Owen’s second confirmed their place in the next round.

Shaun Hinchcliffe also hit a double to help Brinsworth Whitehill come from behind to win their all-Division One affair with Ranch. Martin Rodgers put Brinsworth ahead against the run of play and although Ranch did eventually equalise through Carl Pierce, they had missed enough chances to have put the tie out of sight. They managed to take the lead with an Adam Hadfield header in extra time, but Hinchcliffe headed Brinsworth level before he won it with a low shot past the keeper.

Another all-Division One tie also went to extra time before Fairbank-Rhodes overcame Colley FC. Joe Knight gave Fairbank a deserved lead in the second half and it looked like it would be enough until Neil Whitworth headed a last gasp equaliser for Colley. Fairbank quickly took charge in extra time and Andy Baxter restored their lead from the penalty spot after Knight had been brought down and Scott Whittington added a third.

Goals from Leon Stocks and Stacy Sharif gave CBC Premier Pitsmoor Royal Oak victory at home against Division One Anston Athletic, first half doubles for Dean Jepson and Sean Flynn gave CBC Premier leaders Stannington Village victory at home against Division Two Crookes & District.

Div 2 - I say James Old Boy, while Pearson keeps Blades on track -  There were just two league games in Division Two where Handsworth Old Boys climbed to third with a 5-0 win at Highfield Old Crown. All the goals came in the second half with Chris James hitting their first three before Greg Burgin and Tom Houghton finished the rout. The other game saw Richard Pearson’s first half free kick enough for Junior Blades to overcome Sharrow Vale and make it three wins out of three at home.
