30 Jan 2012 - MACRON CUP DRAW - The Macron Cup semi final draw was made at Bramall Lane tonight and it saw the holders and CBC Premier leaders Civil Service paired with the CBC Premier’s third place side The Vine, while Division Two The Park were paired with former finalists Pitsmoor Royal Oak. Ties to be played on Sunday 25 March, kick-off at 11:00 at the HSBC Sports Ground, Dore. The winners will meet in the final at Bramall Lane towards the end of the season.

29 Jan 2012 - CBC Premier Fixtures on 25 March -  I had made a mistake on the website and it looked as if some games that are scheduled for 25 March were to be played in midweek on 29 March - please re check fixtures for that date. I have amended the website.

29 Jan 2012 - SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - Rowe treble as Ball hit magnificent seven -  Christian Rowe (right) hit a hat-trick as Division Two Old Blue Ball marched into the Taylor & Emmet Sunday Junior Cup quarter finals with a seven goal victory over Greasborough Crown. Ball will now play host to Wincobank Forum for a place in the semi finals, while our other quarter finalist, Queens Ground, travel to Wheatley Hotel for their quarter final.

Christian Rowe hit a hat-trick as Division Two Old Blue Ball marched into the Taylor & Emmet Sunday Junior Cup quarter finals with a seven goal victory over Greasborough Crown. That sort of result didn’t look likely when Greasborough started the brightest and took the lead after twelve minutes, but that seemed to jolt Ball into action and Callum Chambers soon had them level. Shaun Frawley then went on a jinking run before producing a sublime finish to give Ball the lead and they never looked back.

Rowe scored his first two before half time and completed his hat-trick after the break. Chambers then hit his second before Rees McAndless completed Balls magnificent seven. Ball will now play host to Station 2007 or Wincobank Forum for a place in the semi finals, while our other quarter finalist, Queens Ground, travel to Wheatley Hotel for their quarter final.

CBC PREM - Billard quartet too much for Players, while Johnstone treble keeps Stannington in touch Paul Billard (left) scored his side's first four goals as Civil Service swept to victory over Ecclesfield Players Lounge, but a Lee Johnstone (right) treble helped Stannington Village stay in touch with victory over Hemsworth Villa. Two Dave Knaggs goals helped Redmires stage the biggest comeback of the day as they came from three down to win at Handsworth Turf, while Stocksbridge Park Steels climbed two places with victory over Laycock Sports.

Paul Billard scored his side's first four goals as CBC Premier leaders Civil Service swept to victory over Ecclesfield Players Lounge. He started things off by drilling the ball through the advancing keepers legs, before swivelling to hammer home his second. His third came from the penalty spot before half time and he hit his fourth in the second half before Gavin Wills added his side’s fifth.

Stannington Village stayed right behind them as Lee Johnstone hit a hat-trick in their 6-0 win over Hemsworth Villa. Johnstone produced a stunning twenty five yarder that went in off a post to give his side the lead before John Saville and Dean Jepson combined to give Shaun Flynn the opening to score their second before half time. Flynn grabbed another after the break before Bill Green’s long throw was touched on by Jack Mylnek for Johnstone to hit his second. An own goal brought up their fifth before Green crossed for Johnstone to complete his hat-trick and the scoring. Action from the game is below:

Stocksbridge Park Steels climbed two places to fourth with victory over Laycock Sports. Both sides had chances in the first half and after the break Nick Owen missed a penalty for Laycocks. Mitchell Savage’s exquisite lob over the keeper gave Steels the front, but it didn’t last long as Luke Glaves found the top corner. It looked as if that was how it was going to end, but in the final minute Jack Jones cross was dummied by Scott Birch and Kevin Davies grabbed Steels winner.

The day’s biggest comeback came at Handsworth Turf where Redmires came from three down to win 5-3. Turf started like an express and when Ben Shackshaft received Joe France’s long throw he swivelled to put Turf ahead. France then crossed for Andy Stevens to score with a spectacular scissors kick and midway through the first half the game looked all over when Greg Taylor fed France to hit Turf’s third. Liam Simmonite almost made it four, but Dave Knaggs gave Redmires some hope by reducing the arrears just before half time. Redmires came out after the break a different team and Knaggs headed a second before his shot was turned into his own net by a defender to level the scores. Nick Hickson then put Redmires in front before Heggel Moubissie scored his first ever goal for Redmires to complete a remarkable turnround.

DIV 1 - Last gasp Ward completes comeback for leaders -  After being 3-1 down, a last gasp John Ward goal saw Bulls Head snatch victory against Niagara, but both Fairbank-Rhodes and Aston Swallownest had to settle for a point each against Ranch and Woodhouse Angel. Two Jamie Cherry goals helped Queens Ground to victory at Brinsworth Whitehill, while Steve Mayfield was the star for Loxley beat Anston Athletic to earn their first home points of the season.

After a goalless first half and then taking the lead with an Alan Mowforth penalty, Division One leaders Bulls Head looked as if they were heading for their second defeat of the season when Simon Staniforth’s header, Chris Smith and a John Marples own goal gave Niagara a 3-1 lead. Bull responded though and after twice hitting the post, Nick Ash’s one hundredth goal for the club put them back in the game before Joe Tiffin levelled with a shot in off a post. Niagara looked as if they would get the point they deserved, but with just seconds remaining, Mowforth found Ash and although his shot was saved, the ball fell to John Ward (pictured left) to tap home Bulls winner.

The day got better for Bull as both the teams behind them dropped points. Second place Fairbank-Rhodes took a second half lead with Scott Whittington’s free kick found the top corner, but Ranch hit back and their pressure finally paid off when Richard Berry flicked on for his brother Mike and he fed Taurean Fogarty to hit the equaliser. Third place Aston Swallownest fell behind to Lee Marshall’s first half strike for Woodhouse Angel, but David Sills netted an equaliser from Ryan Hall’s corner and Ian Draper put Aston in front. Aston couldn’t hold on though as Angel levelled with a Gareth Simons penalty.

The main threat to Bulls Head now looks to be Queens Ground who picked up three points at Brinsworth Whitehill, but the basement side made them work hard for it in the first half in particular. Matt Law gave Queens the lead only to see Lee Davies’s good finish cancel it out. Jamie Cherry then restored Queens lead and Nick Galloway extended it, but a good move saw Bazil Nyoni grab a second for the home side. After the break, a needless penalty allowed Jamie Cherry to restore Queens two goal lead and victory was made certain with a fifth.

Steve Mayfield and centre back Tim Pitt were the stars as Loxley beat Anston Athletic to earn their first home points of the season. Mayfield gave his side a first half lead and grabbed a second after the break when he cut inside, before beating two men and the keeper. Mayfield then laid on a third for Mick Smith to toe poke home and Pitt took time off from making sure of his side’s first clean sheet at home to set up the fourth for Anthony Marshall.

DIV 2 - Wray-zor sharp Sharrow shock the leaders -  In the top v bottom clash, a Tom Wray (pictured right) double helped Sharrow Vale shock The Park by sharing the points in a six goal thriller. Handsworth Old Boys had to thank a Chris James double for helping to earn them a narrow win at Hollin Bush, but Colley WMC's march up the table was halted by Crookes & District, while Highfield Old Crown made it five home games without defeat with victory over Chapeltown RBL

One of the team performances of the day had to be Sharrow Vale’s as the team that started the day at the foot of Division Two shared six goals with leaders The Park. Vale went into it without a win in their last five, but encouraged by two draws in their last two. The leaders took the lead though when Calvin Thomas created the opening for Mark Townsend to score and a mistake by the Vale keeper allowed Thomas to double The Park’s lead, but Vale were handed a lifeline before the break when they were awarded a penalty, expertly put away by Tom Wray. After the break Wray struck again to bring Vale level and although The Park’s veteran Andy Chafer came on to restore their lead, Andrew Foster netted to give Vale the deserved point that lifted them off the foot of the table.

Handsworth Old Boys narrowed the gap to just a point after just holding on in a seven goal thriller at Hollin Bush. Greg Burgin put Handsworth ahead and Chris James doubled their lead and although Matt Dickinson pulled one back, Dale Moore restored the visitors two goal lead before half time. Owen Clarke grabbed a second for Bush after the break, but a penalty award allowed James to score his second, and Handsworth needed it as Rob Clowse netted a third for Bush as they staged a grandstand finish the couldn’t quite force an equaliser.

Colley WMC's march up the table came to an abrupt halt at home to Crookes & District. Although Colley hit the woodwork three times it was Crookes that took the lead when a Sam Firth scored from the penalty spot after a foul on Mike Dobson., but Colley went into the break level after Dan Wilkinson scored. After half time, Dobson restored Crookes’ lead and when Matt West’s teasing cross was turned into his own net by a Colley defender the writing was on the wall. Richard Firth pulled one back from the penalty spot, but with the impressive Mike Hickton driving Crookes forward, Chris Cottyn scored a fourth for Crookes.

Highfield Old Crown made it five home games without defeat with a victory over Chapeltown RBL that pushed the visitors to the foot of the table. It started well for Chapeltown though as Ben Palmer headed home at the back post to give them a half time lead, but Crown levelled when Stuart Underwood was brought down in the area and the reliable Eddie McErlain scored from the spot. Crown won it when Underwood beat two defenders before firing home a right foot shot into the bottom corner and a mention should also go to referee Dan Potts who did very well in his first game in charge.

22 Jan 2011 - Old Harrow Grenoside resigns -  After struggling to get a full team out for a good few weeks, Old Harrow Grenoside have had to resign. All their results have been removed from the Division Two statistics and it means that Pitsmoor Royal Oak get a bye in the Macron Cup.

22 Jan 2011 - MACRON CUP - Billard snookers Village -  A single Paul Billard (pictured left) strike proved enough to send holders Civil Service through against a gallant Oughtibridge Village

The holders and CBC Premier leaders Civil Service were strong favourites to take a place in the Macron Cup semi finals for a third time in four years when they entertained Division Two title contenders Oughtibridge Village, but the visitors made it clear from the outset that they weren’t going to be beaten easily and only a single Paul Billard strike settled the issue for the holders.

The day didn’t start well for Oughtibridge as they were missing five of their most influential players through injury and when the game started they had a player shown a yellow card within the first twenty seconds and referee Craig Grundy showed a second Oughtibridge player a yellow card just five minutes later.

It was Civil Service that provided the first threat on goal when Gavin Wills curling shot forced Village keeper Chris Adnett to make the save. Service then had to make a change when Barry Durrans had to come off injured, with Adam Firth taking his place. Ben Sanderson then had a shot blocked before Gaz Griffiths forced Adnett to make another save. Wills then went close again and although Jordan Hauge and Leon Weston at the heart of the Village defence were doing their best to restrict the number of shots on target, the pressure finally told when Ben Brown and Wills combined to put Paul Billard through to beat Adnett with a shot he perhaps should have dealt with.

Village tried to respond and twice Lee Smith put Lee Bridges through, but each time the Service defence superbly marshalled by Sanderson and John Charles snuffed out the chances. The second half started with Service again creating the first chance, but Firth’s shot was too close to the keeper to cause him any real trouble. Service introduced Andy Bath and Lee Wild into the fray and Bath immediately had a chance that he hit straight at the keeper, before Wild made a complete hash of a cross from Wills.

Oughtibridge were finding hard to make any impression on a Service defence that had conceded just eleven goals all season, but while there was just a single goal in it they still had a chance and when Justin Westoby began to threaten their spirits were lifted further and his interchange with Bridges forced Service keeper Whitby to make a save to preserve his side’s lead.

Service then missed another chance to wrap things up when Firth again shot straight at Adnett, but in the end it didn’t matter as the holders held on to their seventh clean sheet of the season.

SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - Foster treble sees off Conyers, while Ball send Ranch packing -  Queens Ground reached the quarter finals of the Taylor & Emmet Sunday Junior Cup for the first time as a Nat Foster (pictured right) treble helped them to a convincing victory over Conisbrough Conyers, while Division Two Old Blue Ball are in the last sixteen after three extra time goals saw off Division One Ranch, but it was the end of the road for Hollin Bush as they slipped to a narrow defeat at Wincobank Forum.

After Queens Ground had taken an early lead when Matt Law fired home, Conyers soon hit back to level. Queens were then awarded a penalty and although the keeper saved Jamie Cherry’s spot kick he could do nothing to stop Cherry scoring from the rebound. Conyers then levelled a second time, but Foster hit an unstoppable shot from fifteen yards to give Queens a half time lead.

After the break, Foster increased their lead with another well taken goal and he completed his hat-trick by beating three defenders and rounding the keeper. Conyers then pulled one back, but there was no stopping a rampant Queens and Nick Galloway headed their sixth at the far post from a corner before Daniel Stead added a seventh by curling the ball round the keepers outstretched arm from the edge of the area.

Christian Rowe (pictured left) gave Old Blue Ball a half time lead at home against Ranch, but the visitors took the game into extra time when Chris Hall scored with a spectacular scissors kick from Breon Gogarty’s cross. Ball weren’t to be denied a victory though and with Danny Dunkerley pulling the strings in midfield, they began to pull their tiring opponents apart. Marcus O’Malley put Ball back in front and victory was assured with further goals from Callum Chambers and Matt Sides. Ball now face Greasborough Crown this weekend for a place in the quarter finals.

Hollin Bush found themselves two down at the break at Wincobank Forum and despite pulling one back when Cole Starkes knocked in the rebound after the keeper had spilled Lewis Barker’s shot, the keeper made up for his error by denying Matt Dickinson a late equaliser.

SUNDAY SENIOR CUP - Southey go out -  Southey Social’s brave run to the quarter finals of the Taylor & Emmet Sunday Senior Cup also came to an end, but not without giving it their all. Todd Guest’s deflected shot gave them a deserved lead at Swinton WMC, but their hosts levelled before the break with a penalty. Swinton added two more after the break and although Ryan Gray pulled one back after John Mellor’s shot had been parried by the keeper it proved enough to give Swinton a place in the semi finals.

CBC PREM - Villa claim first point, while Redmires halt Laycocks progress -  In the CBC Premier, Hemsworth Villa came from behind to claim their first point of the season at home to Pitsmoor Royal Oak. Like all the games the windy conditions made life difficult and both sides were finding it hard to master the conditions, until with just fifteen minutes left Gavin Davis looked to have won it for Pitsmoor, but after both Chris Bell and Alex Yule had missed chances to level, a controversial penalty decision allowed Russ Westby (pictured right) to give Villa that first point.

Laycock Sports rise up the table came to an abrupt halt as a Dave Knaggs inspired Redmires gained their first win since October. Knaggs gave Redmires an early lead and Mikey Taylor doubled it, before missing another chance to extend it further. Sam Read pulled one back before half time, but after the break Knaggs hit his second into the far corner before setting up a fourth for Nick Hickson’s diving header. Nick Owen pulled a second one back from the penalty spot, but Redmires lead was never really threatened..

Stockbridge Park Steels recent progress also looked to be coming to an end at home to Handsworth Turf when Keiran Gallagher’s cross was turned into his own net by a defender and Joe France netted a second for Turf just before the break. Danny Leesley had also missed a chance and France headed wide in a half that Turf dominated. Things changed after the break as Steels had the benefit of the following wind and Andy Horsfall’s header and Mitchell Savage’s lob over the keeper had them level within three minutes of the re-start. Turf held out for a while, but Steels eventually won it when Lee Shepherd’s free kick was headed home by Kevin Davies (pictured right).

The Vine’s title bid was dented by Ecclesfield Players Lounge for a second week in succession as the two sides shared the points for a second successive week. Dan Bateman headed The Vine into a half time lead, but Ecclesfield’s man of the match Danny Turner cancelled it out early in the second half. Tom Moynahan then restored The Vine’s lead, but he went from hero to villain when he committed a foul in the area and Ryan Keeney scored from the penalty spot.

DIV 1 - Angel fly to first win -  In Division One, Woodhouse Angel climbed off the foot of the table when they claimed their first win of the season with victory at Anston Athletic. Man of the match Dave Kippax (pictured left) gave Angel a first half lead and victory was assured in the second half by goals from Lee Marshall and Kirk Briddon.

Colley FC put themselves on the fringes of the promotion race with a second home win of the season, 3-0 over Brinsworth Whitehill. Dan Ferguson and Lee Campbell gave Colley a two goal half time lead and although Brinsworth had chances in the second half, the only time they found the net was into their own for Colley’s third. A second half Liam Bonnick penalty gave Throstles the lead against Loxley, but after Josh Delaney had missed one chance to level, Mick Smith showed him how to do it with a smartly taken free kick to give Loxley a share of the points.

DIV 2 - Colley's climb continues -  In Division Two, Colley WMC moved into the promotion race when they made it sixteen points from their last six games with victory over promotion rivals Junior Blades. After a goalless first half, Richard Firth’s mishit shot gave Colley the lead, before Chris Hunt sealed the win when he took advantage of a ball that had bounced into an empty space between the defenders and the keeper. A well worked free kick allowed Greg McLennan to give Crookes & District a first half lead at Sharrow Vale, but James Wild’s strike five minutes into the second half gave the home side a share of the points.

15 Jan 2011 - CBC PREM - Ecclesfield hit back to claim a point -  Although The Vine took the lead through Brent Healey, a Jayson Gregory strike earned Ecclesfield Players Lounge a point. Both sides were also indebted to their goalkeepers, Scott Touhey (first left) and James Marshall (second left) as both had to make crucial saves. It was the only game played due to frozen pitches.

Relegation threatened Ecclesfield Players Lounge’s home game with title chasing The Vine was the only game played thanks to Ecclesfield’s all-weather pitch and the game saw The Vine’s title ambitions take a dent for a second successive weekend when they let a lead slip as Ecclesfield hit back to claim a point.

Both sides had early chances, but it was The Vine that took the lead when a free kick into the Ecclesfield goalmouth was only cleared to the edge of the area and Brent Healey (in yellow right) hit a stunning volley that flew into the net of the bar. The Vine almost doubled their lead when Rikki Davidson laid the ball off for Craig Woolley to fire in a shot, but it only produced the first of a number of saves by keeper Scott Touhey.

Ecclesfield had a strange look about them with Paul Bashforth and former striker Jayson Gregory ( in red right) playing at the heart of their defence, but Gregory showed he had lost none of his striker’s instincts when Bashforth’s ball into the box could only be knocked down with Craig Senior making his presence felt in the box and Gregory stooped to head home the equaliser before the break.

The second half saw a Healey free kick well saved by Touhey and when Will Blakeney played Rikki Davidson in Touhey made a brave save at his feet twice as Davidson tried to force home the rebound from the first save. He wasn’t the only one to make a double save though as The Vine keeper James Marshall first made a flying save from Matt Clarkes shot, before picking himself up to block another shot from the rebound.

In the last couple of minutes sub Dan Bateman sent Davidson through, but the normally reliable hit-man put his shot wide and Bateman did the same when he had an even better chance from just six yards out and in the end both sides had to settle for a point each. Referee David Evans also earned praise from both sides.

8 Jan 2012 - SUNDAY SENIOR CUP - Oak pay the penalty as Southey go through -  In the Taylor & Emmet Senior Sunday Cup, a titanic all- Blades Super Draw tie went all the way to extra time and then penalties before Southey Social went through at Pitsmoor Royal Oak's expense. Southey drew first blood when a quick break gave Simon Jebson the opportunity to produce a stunning volley past the keeper, but Pitsmoor levelled before half time when Ryan Dyson’s cross was headed down by Leon Stocks for Scott Spjazer to score. The second half saw Southey go back in front when Danny Lindley hit a thirty five yarder that took a slight deflection past the keeper and it looked like it would be enough until a glancing header by Stacy Sharif deceived keeper Andy Guest (pictured left) and somehow finished in the back of the net.

Extra time saw Pitsmoor take the lead with Sharif’s second of the game, but Southey took the game to a penalty shoot-out with a Lee Gillott header. Pitsmoor’s regular penalty taker Craig Graham stepped up to take the first, but blazed over and after Southey netted their first their keeper Guest went from villain to hero by saving James Thew’s spot kick. Southey continued to put their away and when Jacob Harris netted his it was enough to earn Southey a quarter final tie at Swinton WMC tomorrow after they beat Worksop Borough 2-0.

SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - Queens give royal performance to drop Anchor -  In the Taylor & Emmet Junior Sunday Cup Three first half goals saw Queens ground through against Anchor, but Niagara let a two goal lead slip to go out at Butchers Arms United. Jamie Cherry curled home Queens first after a couple of minutes and it was quickly followed by a second from James Ronksley. The tie was as good as over when Ada Tomlin added a third before the break and although Anchor pulled one back in the second half they never looked likely to threaten a comeback.

It was also looking good for Niagara after Danny Bainbridge’s corner went straight into the net and a later header by him had them two up at half time at Butchers Arms United, but the Barnsley side produced a stirring second half comeback to win the tie 3-2.

CBC PREM - Service are Wild about Lee, Stannington see off The Vine, Steels Savage Ecclesfield and Laycocks Nick it at Villa -  In the CBC Premier, leaders Civil Service needed two Lee Wild strikes to see off Redmires. Wes Bamford gave Service the lead against the run of play near the end of a first half. Redmires weren’t having the best of luck and after having a strong claim for a penalty turned down by the referee, midfielder Nick Hickson missed four glorious chance to bring his side level. Service introduced Wild at half time to shake things up and he repaid his managers faith in him with two goals to keep his side in control.

Second place Stannington Village travelled to third place The Vine and were given a late Xmas present when a defender turned Bill Green’s long throw into his own net to give Stannington the lead. Craig Woolley perhaps should have equalised when he shot straight at the keeper and other chances came and went for the home side before Stannington finally condemned The Vine to their first home defeat when Bill Green drove a second into the bottom corner before Jon Wall tapped in a third when Dean Jepson headed a cross down to him.

Up to fourth is Laycock Sports after coming from two down with the help of two Nick Owen goals against his old club Hemsworth Villa. Russ Westby and Matt Bray combined to give the opening for Peter Burgin to put Villa ahead and Westby double their lead before half time when he scored from Chris Bell’s quickly taken free kick. With Laycocks old boy Andy Register playing his heart out at the centre of the Villa defence it looked as if they would go on to take a surprise three points, but the game changed when Villa lost influential midfielder Liam Pigott to injury. Owen raced away from defenders appealing in vain for offside to pull the first one back before hammering home the equaliser from ten yards. It still looked as if Villa would hold onto a point, but with just three minutes remaining Alex Napier popped up to grab a winner for Laycocks.

Stocksbridge Park Steels improvement continued as a Mitchell Savage (pictured right) hat-trick helped them to the points at Ecclesfield Players Lounge. Adam Todd set Savage up to give Steels an early lead and after the ball had been blocked on the Steels goal line they broke quickly and a five man move ended with Scott Birch doubling Steels lead. Craig Senior then pulled one back for the home side, but Steels regained their two goal lead when Birch put Todd through for him to round the keeper and score.

The second half saw Gavin Hunter twice hit the Steels woodwork, but Savage had no such bad luck and he completed his hat-trick before Lee Shepherd hit Steels sixth from the penalty spot after Ryan Cockayne had been brought down. Ecclesfield’s man-of-the-match Danny Turner netted a deserved second for his side, but they never looked likely to get back into the game.

In Division One, Bulls Head saw off Woodhouse Angel to extend their lead to four points. Phil Jenkins headed Bull into the lead and another header from Nick Ash doubled it. Just before half time, Anthony Dolan scored from the edge of the area to put Angel back into the game, but the second half wasn’t too old when Alan Mowforth netted Bulls third from the penalty spot. Matt Coates hit a real stunner from thirty yards for Bulls fourth and although Gareth Simons scored a penalty for Angel it wasn’t enough to stop Bull taking the points.

Up to third is Aston Swallownest after Ian Draper gabbed a four goal haul in a 6-0 victory over Anston Athletic. Draper opened the scoring with a stooping header that went in off a post and he added his second before half time. After the break, Draper turned provider when he chased a cause that looked lost before crossing for David Sills to tap home. Draper’s third had more than a hint of good fortune when Ross Edwards miscued shot cannoned off his head and into the net. Maxwell Graham tapped home Aston’s fifth before grabbed his fourth when he followed up the rebound after Ash Baker’s shot had been parried by the keeper.

Throstles went fifth with victory over Brinsworth Whitehill. James Stone and Ali Berry put Throstles two up by half time and although Martin Rodgers hit a consolation for Brinsworth in the second half, Karl Henry and Ryan Lawton added two more for Throstles.

Colley took their unbeaten away record to relegation strugglers Loxley and Adam White and Carl Lomas strikes gave Colley a two goal half time lead. Geoff Mayfield pulled one back for the home side, but Daniel Ferguson regained Colley’s two goal lead. Lee Struggles grabbed a second for Loxley and only an amazing save by Colley keeper stopped him grabbing an equaliser before Lee Campbell raced away to hit Colley’s fourth.

DIV 2 - Bridge double hat-trick send Village top and The Park go second, but the Blades go Under at Crown  -  It’s getting tight at the top of Division Two with the top three all on the same points and fourth place Junior Blades just two points behind. New leader is Oughtibridge Village after Lee Bridges (pictured left)  scored six times in their 7-1 victory at Crookes & District. David Buckley netted Oughtibridge’s other, while Chris Cottyn grabbed Crookes’ consolation.

Level on points with them is The Park after they came from behind to win at Players Lounge Athletic. Danny Marcus gave the home side the lead after twenty minutes, but ten minutes later Ricardo Stewart cancelled it out. Although they had been reduced to ten men, The Park were still dominating affairs and took the lead when Calvin Thomas headed Mark Townsend’s corner home before Tony Gurnhill clinched it with their third.

Junior Blades missed their chance to go top when they let a two goal lead slip before slumping to a surprise heavy defeat at Highfield Old Crown. Danny Law headed the Blades in front before Jake Scholfield slid in to convert Alex Raebould’s cross with less than fifteen minutes on the clock. It all started to go wrong when Stuart Underwood was felled in the area and Eddie MacErlain again proved his reliability from the penalty spot. Underwood then grabbed the equaliser and Gary Wilkins completed the turnaround by putting Crown ahead before the break. It was Crown that looked more like the title challengers in the second half and Underwood hit two more to complete his hat-trick before Wilkins added his second.

The nearest Sharrow Vale came to breaking the deadlock against Chapeltown RBL was when James Wiles missed from the penalty spot, but Sharrow had a more worrying problem when they lost Paul Richards to injury. Chapeltown seemed equally affected by their opponents injury and the game finished goalless.
