Doubles
for Hague & Bird see Village fly to top
Doubles by David Hague and Wayne Bird saw Stannington fly to the top of the CBC Premier after a 5-3 victory at Niagara, while there were big celebrations at the Lord Nelson after their first CBC Premier win, 2-1 over Laycock Sports. Division Two leaders Telecom Sports needed a late goal to earn them a point at Mosborough Royal Oak and Woodseats Abbey are now breathing down their necks after Adrian Von Wurzbach's four goal blast gave them victory at Burgoyne Arms. Another to hit four was Division Two leaders Park & Arbourthorne's Daniel Adkins in an eight goal romp, while both Handsworth Old Boys and Millhouses Abacrombie celebrated their first league wins of the season.
Wayne Bird was quickly on the mark to give Stannington Village the lead at Niagara and David Hague doubled their lead soon after. Hague then hit his second from the penalty spot and although Andy Lee reduced the arrears for the home side, a Simon Howe free kick saw the visitors lead 4-1 at half time.
Niagara obviously had a good talking to at half time and came out firing on all cylinders and a Craig Foster penalty brought them further hope. Tom Staniforth then struck to put them right back into it and Stannington were very grateful for a second from Bird to secure the points.
Laycock Sports had produced a stunning victory in the cup the week before, but this time they were on the wrong end of a surprise result as Lord Nelson picked up a richly deserved first ever CBC Premier win. Phil McLvaine gave Nelson a first half lead only to see it cancelled out by Simon Bartles penalty early in the second half, but Nelson again began to Lord the game and with fifteen minutes remaining sub Andy Moffitt hit a thirty five yard piledriver to earn that first win.
Handsworth WMC's perfect record was shattered by a Stocksbridge Park Steels securing their second away win of the season. Chris Kelly and Andy Hibbert goals in three first half minutes gave Steels the half time advantage, but a Robert Pratt strike soon after the break put Handsworth right back in it. They pressed the self destruct button five minutes later though when Dean Brown received his marching orders and Mark Barraclough sealed their fate near the end.
It was a similar story at Pen Nook where Steve Bridges's header and Stef Harris's volley gave Hemsworth Villa a two goal half time advantage. Steve Marshall's header gave the home side hope, but they were also reduced to ten men and Lee Rogers scrambled home a third for Villa. Nook had a chance to get back in the game when they were awarded a penalty, but Jamie King produced a brilliant double save to leave the final scoreline at 3-1 to Villa.
Johnstone saver for Telecom, while Von
Wurzbach is Abbey's Red Baron
Division One leaders Telecom Sports knew they were in for a tough game at Mosborough Royal Oak and they soon found themselves behind to Ricky Davidson's fourth goal in two games. Although Telecom battled back and went into the interval level after Paul Marrison also netted his fourth of the season, they went behind again when Will Blakeney netted for Oak, but just when it looked like the home side would hold on to the points, Lee Johnstone grabbed a second equaliser to keep Telecom's unbeaten record in tact.
After Von Wurzbach had volleyed a first and headed a second for Woodseats Abbey at Burgoyne Arms, the home side missed the chance to get back into it when David Nash missed from the spot and Von Wurzbach rubbed it in with two more in the last ten minutes to send Abbey second.
Despite losing Ben Hill for the season and leading scorer Craig Senior with injury, Ecclesfield Travellers got back to winning ways with a well deserved 3-1 victory at Boundary Sports. Kieron Webb put them ahead and Jamie Grayson took advantage of some slack defending to double the lead. Kevin Wraith headed a third before Nathan Hurst grabbed a consolation for the home side.
Despite going behind to Danny Hill's strike, a John Mellor treble helped Royal Oak Pitsmoor secure their first points of the season with a 4-2 victory at Oughtibridge Village. Mellor's first had Oak level by half time and two more with another from Anthony Rogers meant the points were safe by the time Nick Smith netted Village's second.
Gavin Davies headed Pitsmoor Hotel into a fifth minute lead at home to Oxspring Lowood, but the visitors left with a point after Phillip Cookson levelled with another first half header.
Adkins & Knowles make it a stroll for
Park, while Ally Berry stars for Abacrombie
Despite twice going behind to Joe Knight and Neil Booth goals, Division Two leaders Park & Arbourthorne blew Fairbank Rhodes away with an eight goal blast. Daniel Adkins added to his reputation with four of them and former Hartlepool United man Darren Knowles netted three, while the other came from Simon Windle. Had it not been for a remarkable display, including two penalty saves, by Fairbank's stand-in keeper Craig Guilfoyle the score would have been many more.
Cutlers Arms are beginning to emerge as the main threat to Park after they inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Civil Service. Cutlers took advantage of some slack defending and some goalkeeping errors to build a four goal lead through Tom Moynahan, a James Haslam double and a Mark Franklin penalty before Service decided to get back into the game.
The keeper got a hand to Wayne Stacey's shot, but couldn't keep it out and Nick Petman headed home his first of the season. dave Whitby dragged one wide, but Cutlers nerves were settled when Liam Morris made the most of another error, before Whitby hit Service's third with the goal of the game from thirty yards.
After a goalless first half, Sportsman Stannington kept their 100% record with four second half goals at home to Colley Club. Chris King's chip and penalty netted two and John Davis headed a third before Dean Constable arrested Colley's slide, but Liam Bamforth had the final say for Sportsman.
He may not have film star looks, but Ally Berry is beginning to carve a reputation for himself after his treble for Millhouses Abacrombie helped them to a first win of the season at home to Hollin Bush.
Bush struck first though through Dale Johnson, but a professional foul saw them reduced to ten men and back level when Berry rammed home the resulting penalty. Berry netted two more before Kyle Kilham put Bush back into the game, but one from Leon Scott and an eighteen yard head from Will Dunwell saw Abacrombie home 5-2.
Handsworth Old Boys also had a hat-trick hero in Joe Barrett as they secured their first points of the season with a 4-0 home win over Woodhouse Angel. James Lowe added a fourth and a penalty miss stopped it being more for the Old Boys

Laycock's
turn Gardens over in cup thriller, while Villa & Redmires also go
through
Laycock Sports stole the limelight in the first round of the County FA Senior Sunday cup by turning over Winn Gardens from the Meadowhall Premier in an amazing thirteen goal thriller. There was some high scoring in the Junior Sunday Cup as well, with Millhouses Abacrombie just beating Millhouse by the odd goal in nine and Burgoyne Arms shading out Civil Service in their all Blades Super Draw tie, but the shock of the round was in the all-Blades Super Draw tie where Division Two Cutler's Arms beat Division One Loxley.
Winn Gardens, who finished third in the Meadowhall Premier last season, took the lead three times during the first half, but goals from veteran Andy Register, Steve Morris and
John Kilcoyne (pictured left) had Laycock's level by the interval. Soon after the break, man of the match Scott Wesney put Laycock's ahead for the first time, but it was Gardens that stormed back to lead 5-4.
Wesney then headed home to take the tie into extra time only for Laycock's to fall behind for a fifth time, but they just didn't know when they were beaten and Kilcoyne smashed home from distance to level yet again and sub Danny Milner came on to hit Laycock's winner.
Joining them in the next round of the Senior Cup are Hemsworth Villa and Redmires. Lee Webber netted three and Mark Hopkinson two as Villa thrashed Imperial League side Malin Bridge Inn 8-1, and Andy Birks also netted a hat-trick for Redmires as they saw off the challenge of Firth Park Hotel, but there were early exits for Lord Nelson, Handsworth WMC and Stocksbridge Park Steels.
Loxley chopped down by Cutlers,
while Abbey are over the Moon
In the Junior Sunday Cup, Loxley knew they were in for a tough ride when Tom Moynahon fired Cutlers Arms ahead. Geoff Mitchell eventually grabbed an equaliser for them and had a chance to win it late in the game, but the Cutlers keeper made a brave save and they went straight down to the other end a claimed a winner for themselves through sub Dave
Haslam.
Half Moon's visit to fellow Division One side Woodseats Abbey was expected to be a close affair, but Abbey gave early notice of their intentions when taking the lead through Adrian Von Wurzbach and it was soon doubled when
Damien Barlow (see picture below) headed past his own keeper.
Darren Hill reduced the arrears before the break, but after Von Wurzbach netted his second there was no stopping Abbey and further goals came from Liam Colclough, Mark Richards and Chris Leek.
The other all Division One tie was even more emphatic with a hat trick for Ricky Davidson and two for Ricky Gregory in Mosborough Royal Oak's 7-0 victory at Oughtibridge.
Ben Hill and Kieron Webb both grabbed trebles in Ecclesfield Travellers 7-2 win at Lisano Giants and the other all-Blades Super Draw ties went pretty much as expected.
Division Two Civil Service made a real game of it at Division One Burgoyne Arms though after Darren Firth marked his return from injury with the opener for Arms. Service stormed back to lead with a Martyn Kitridge strike and an own goal, but a second Firth strike and a David Nash penalty had Arms in front by the interval. Mark Tiler increased the lead soon after the break, but a Dave Whiitby header had Service back in it until Simon Marcus put the tie beyond them.
Action from the game below as Civil Service's Simon Hall goes close
with a header.
Royal Oak Pitsmoor had Jordan Pierce and a thirty yard John Mellor strike to thank for a narrow win at a Handsworth Old Boys that replied through Joe Barrett, but there was mixed fortunes for our sides against other league's opposition.
One side to progress is Millhouses Abacrombie and they are fast becoming a team to watch after their 5-4 Junior Sunday Cup victory at Millhouse took the tally of goals in their three games this season to twenty two.
After Ally Berry had put them ahead they found themselves behind until Berry netted a second from the penalty spot. Although Sam Bartram and Joe Keeting twice had Abacrombie back in front, the home side levelled both times, but when Bartram netted his second, Abacrombie finally held on.
Hollin Bush also went through despite being reduced to ten men. They also fell behind to Norfolk Arms, but a Paul Driver double and one from Sam Gill saw Bush home.
Two from Scott Szajers and one each from Gavin Davies, Leon Stocks and Tommy Fowler saw Pitsmoor Hotel to an impressive 5-1 demolition of Staffordshire Arms, but Park & Arbourthorne were pushed all the way by Stannington Warriors. Craig Graham put Park ahead when he forced the ball home at the near post, but a second from Danny Kelleher didn't arrive until the final minute and even then Stannington had time to net a consolation.
Boundary Sports looked to be cruising through when they went four up at home to Anglers Rest, but they were rocked when their visitors hit back to level. Boundary needn't have worried though as Craig Green took his tally to four, David Goudje to two and Lee Barringham finished off the scoring for a 7-4 victory.
Oxspring Lowood went out 4-0 at Bagshaw Arms and despite goals from Jason Collier, Chris King and Liam Bamforth, Sportsman Stannington went out 5-3 at home to La Plata. Mick Whitney and Nick Whitworth goals for Colley Club had them level with Beehive Wisewood after ninety minutes, but it was the Bees that found a winner in extra time, while Matt Nestor's twice taken penalty goal wasn't enough to stop Fairbank Rhodes going out 2-1 to Blue Bell.
Nook Pierce-d as George go back on
top
The only league games were all in the CBC Premier, which is beginning to have a familiar look about it. Champions Woodhouse George are back on top after four from
Wes Pierce (pictured left) and one from Chris Towey gave them a 5-2 victory at Pen Nook. It wasn't as easy as the scoreline suggests though as besides the goals from Dan Lewis and Craig Thickett, Nook had another two efforts disallowed.
Hot on their heels is Stannington Village who took their goals tally to thirteen with a 7-2 victory over The Park. Simon Howe put Stannington ahead only to see Matt Hill wipe it out before the break and even when an own goal put them back in front, Lee Bridges levelled a second time, but after Sean Flynn put Stannington back in front it became one-way traffic and Howe went on to complete his hat-trick along with others from David hague and Steve Taylor.
Woodhouse West End were a third side to keep their 100% start going with a narrow 2-1 win at Niagara. Spencer Taylor and Jamie Walters both netted in a first half dominated by West End, but in the second
half it was Niagara turn to dominate and they were rewarded with a goal
back through Ben Dronfield. Then
against the run of play
West End
were awarded a penalty on 60 minutes, but Steve Brady (pictured right)
produced a stunning
penalty save from Walters spot kick and Brady went on to make a string of
first class saves to keep out West end. Niagara could have snatched
a point with some late pressure in the
West End
goalmouth but Woodhouse, with Dave Kippax outstanding at the heart of
their defence, held strong to take all the points..

Travellers
'Bash' their way to Merit Cup victory
Ecclesfield Travellers lifted the Steve Gee Merit Cup for the first time as two Paul Bashforth goals and one from Craig Senior gave them victory over Fairbank Rhodes.
There was more than an element of good fortune about both of Bashforth's goals which both looked to be crosses that flew over the stranded keepers head. Dean Grayson then did well to set Mitchell Robinson up for a chance he couldn't miss to reduce the arrears and Fairbank Rhodes were nearly back on level terms when Matt Nestor shot just wide.
The second half saw both sides go close, but it was Travellers that settled their nerves with a third when Craig Senior got onto the end of Scott Johnson's cross for a real poachers goal. On an emotional night the trophies were presented by the late Steve Fairbank's parents Janet and Keith Fairbank.

Handsworth
go top thanks to a right Pratt
Handsworth WMC are the CBC Premier's early leaders after a 3-1 win over Niagara made it six points out of six and Woodhouse George also have maximum points after a narrow win over Laycock Sports. Telecom Sports are the only Division One club with maximum points after victory at Royal Oak and Park & Arbourthorne top Division Two after beating Colley Club 6-1.
Robert Pratt was the star of the show for Handsworth, hitting a 20 yard volley to put them ahead and after Simon Staniforth had levelled for the visitors, Pratt hit an even strike to put Handsworth ahead again. Pratt even had a hand in the clincher as it was his pinpoint corner that was headed home by Scott Abramski.
After Lloyd Mcpherson had hit their bar early on, first half Wes Pierce and Paul Hancock goals gave Woodhouse George the advantage over Laycock Sports. In the second half Danny Milner pulled one back and Laycocks again hit the woodwork and had one cleared off the line, but they couldn't force an equaliser.
Redmires found themselves trailing to Lee Bridges and old boy Richard Furness goals after just twenty minutes at The Park, but an
Andy Birks (pictured) strike and a thunderbolt from Jamie Minchin had the visitors level by half time and a second Birks goal in the second half completed the turnaround and Redmires went home with the points.
Steve Jones proved what a versatile player he can be for Hemsworth Villa at Lord Nelson as he crowned an assured display in midfield by heading the game's only goal from Mark Hopkinson's cross, and a single Mark Barraclough strike was enough for Stocksbridge Park Steels to come out on top of their local derby at Pen Nook.
Telecom connect to make it six out of six
Division One's early leaders are Telecom Sports after their 3-1 victory at Royal Oak Pitsmoor. It was the second half before Paul Marrison put Telecom ahead, but Oak soon hit back through John Clarke. Simon Smith regained Telecom's lead when he took advantage of some hesitant defending and Adam Podmore clinched it when he beat the full back before netting.
Mosborough Royal Oak brought Ecclesfield Travellers celebrations to an end with a stirring second half show. After a goalless first half, Will Blakeney put Oak ahead only to see Craig Senior level. Sub Andy Marsh was then brought down in the area and Lee Godwin restored Oak's lead from the spot, but Andy Rollinson again levelled for Travellers, but Travellers couldn't find another reply after Marsh netted a third for Oak.
Tommy Fowler's toe poke gave Pitsmoor Hotel a first half lead at Burgoyne Arms and although Gareth Roberts levelled from the spot after a handball in the area, Fowler quickly had Pitsmoor back in front, before Luke Parwana hit a clinching third for Pitsmoor.
After Steve Pickering and Sal Fawzi gave Woodseats a two goal lead at Boundary Sports Craig Green missed the chance to reduce the arrears from the penalty spot. Boundary then missed a host of other chances and their only reply came when David Goosen netted when they were awarded a second penalty.
Two Nathan Kingswood goals and one from Lee Walker had Half Moon three up at Oughtibridge Village early in the second half, but Village fought back and grabbed a deserved point with goals from Pete Wells, James Duroe and Jim Mace.
Loxley and Oxspring Lowood also shared the points and just to show how friendly an affair it was David Oxley put Kevin Bly's cross into his own net to give Loxley the lead before Andy Hogg sliced the ball into his own goal to level for Oxspring.
Park hit six and Cutlers eight to set the
pace in Division Two
Park & Arbourthorne have shot straight to the top of Division Two after another torrent of late goals gave them a 6-1 victory over Colley Club. Mark Bingham and Daniel Adkins gave Park a two goal lead at the interval, but it wasn't until the last quarter of the game before another from Adkins, two from John Bates and a Paul Williams own goalput Park six up before Richie Whitworth netted Colley's consolation.
Park weren't the day's highest scorers though, with that honour going to Cutlers Arms who hit eight at Lisano Giants. Halididi Ali netted for the Giants, but they were swamped with goals from a Tom Moynahon treble, two each from Scott Smedley and Steve Cousins and one from Alex Temprell.
League newcomers Sportsman Stannington followed up last week's League Cup win with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Fairbank Rhodes. Matt Jessprneno put them ahead, Chris King then crossed for Danny Davis to head a second and King rounded things off with a thirty yard free kick.
Civil Service also followed up their League Cup win with victory at Handsworth Old Boys. A howler from the keeper allowed dave Whitby to put Service ahead, but the Old Boys were level by the break through Danny Leavesly. Martyn Kitridge should have restored Service's lead in the second half before Wayne Stacey finally did after a bout of ping pong in the Old Boys area and Whitby sealed the points for Service with a well taken third.
Millhouses Abacrombie twice came from behind to earn their first point of the season at home to Woodhouse Angel. Jim Linfoot put Angel ahead before Carl Gelder levelled and when Jonathan Ross put Angel ahead for a second time they looked as if they would hold onto it after keeper Shaun Smith made a string to terrific saves, but he was finally beaten again in the final minute by a twenty five yarder from full back Ben Woodman.

Stannington
get it Wright this time
With
Josh Wright back and scoring, Stannington Village got the new CBC Premier season off to an explosive start by hitting Hemsworth Villa for six and gaining revenge for last season's League Cup Final defeat. League Champions Woodhouse George also started with a win, while newly promoted Niagara also got off to a winning start.
Telecom Sports were Division One's biggest winners, 5-0 at Oughtibridge Village and in Division Two, Park & Arbourthorne beat Hollin Bush by the same scoreline to get their life in the League off to a winning start.
Two Ben Palmer strikes either side of one from Sean Flynn gave Stannington Village a 3-0 half time lead and although Lee Webber pulled one back for Villa soon after the break, they new it wasn't going to be their day when Webber then saw his penalty saved by Stannington keeper Ben Ashton. Webber did find the net again, but only after Wayne Bid's solo run had added to the home side's lead. Simon Bradbury marked his debut for Stannington with their fifth and although Mark Hopkinson gave Villa hope again, Josh Wright marked his return to Stannington with their sixth.
Ryan McGuiness gave League Champions Woodhouse George the lead at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels midway through the first half, but after that George found themselves hanging on for long periods as the visitors hit back strongly. George held on though and Wes Pierce made the points safe with ten minutes remaining.
Woodhouse West End made an even better start with second half goals from Lee
Glaves, Anthony Dolan and David Woolley giving them a 3-0 victory over Redmires.
Niagara was the only promoted club to get a winning start, with a single first half penalty by Simon Staniforth enough to give them victory at fellow promotees Pen Nook. Laycock Sports claimed a point with a bizarre goal straight from John Kilcoyne's corner kick after a Matt Hill penalty had given The Park the lead just after the break.
Lord Nelson weren't so lucky though and slumped to a last gasp defeat at home to Handsworth
WMC. Nelson missed an early chance to take the lead when Liam Richardson pushed a penalty onto a post and clear and the fell behind when Nick Gardner fired home. Graham Smith managed to level soon after, but in the final minute Robert Pratt grabbed the points for Handsworth.
Telecom Sports scored the earliest goal of the day with Paul Marrison netting after just ten seconds at Oughtibridge Village. Simon Smith headed a second before the break and two from Adam Podmore and a second from Marrison gave the visitors an impressive 5-0 victory.
A Craig Green treble was enough to give Boundary Sports an equally impressive 3-0 victory at home to Burgoyne Arms and Jamie Grayson also claimed a treble for newly promoted Ecclesfield Travellers in their impressive 4-2 victory at Royal Oak
Pitsmoor. Craig Senior netted their other while John Clarke and John Mellor netted for Oak.
It was a mixed day for the other promoted clubs with a single John Bailey strike giving Loxley all three points at home to Woodseats Abbey and Nathan Kingswood and Mark Ramsden goals for Half Moon just pipping Gavin Davies's goal for Pitsmoor Hotel, but, despite goals from Will Blakeney and Kevin Ford, Mosborough Royal Oak slipped to a 4-2 defeat at Oxspring Lowood with Jack Jones, an own goal and two from super sub Glen Chapman giving the home side the points.
Park & Arbourthorne got their life in the League off to the best possible start with a Daniel Atkins treble, one from Simon Windle and a John Bates rocket giving them a 5-0 home win over Hollin Bush. The other Division Two game between Colley Club and
Fairbank-Rhodes ended goalless.
BLADES SUPER DRAW LEAGUE CUP
There was real drama in Round One of the Blades Super Draw League Cup with
Civil Service (pictured defending their goal) twice coming from behind to beat newcomers Millhouses Abacrombie after extra time and Sportsman Stannington winning a penalty shoot-out with Woodhouse Angel.
Simon Hall and Martyn Kitridge headed Civil Service into a two goal half time lead, but Adam
Sturch, Ben Woodman and
Carl Gelder goals put Millhouses ahead late on. Nick Dennis produced a wonder strike to force extra time, but Millhouses went back in front when Ally Berry fired home. Injury had reduced Service to ten men by this time, but they levelled through Dave Whitby and won it when Chris Kent stabbed home late on.
Jason Collier and John Burgess goals for Sportsman Stannington were cancelled out by an own goal and a Paul Gregory strike for Woodhouse Angel so it went to penalties and with Phil Jackson making one vital save and Gregory missing his spot kick it was Sportsman that went through.
The other cup tie saw Tommy Brown, Luke Johnson and Joe Barrett strikes give Handsworth Old Boys a 3-1 victory over Lisano Giants. Abu Sesay netted for the Giants, but they weren't helped by the loss of a player with a broken arm.

Czech
Mate to Pen Nook
Pen
Nook recently took a party of seventeen to play a friendly in the Czech Republic
against Dolni Jircany.
Dolni
Jircany are a team based in the village of Dolni about 15 miles from
Prague who formed in 1932, the team has won over 30 trophies during their
74 year history. The team currently play in Czech Republic division 8 -
but unlike in the UK the Czech Republic only have one league with 20
divisions from Championship (including Sparta Prague) down to division 20.
The game played at Stadion Dolni in a
very sporting manner between two evenly matched teams resulted in a great
game of quality football.
It started at a very quick pace which was
surprising due to the warm temperatures but Pen Nook that took the lead on
5 minutes. A
great through ball by Mark Dobbs opened up the Dolni Jircany defence
resulting in Daniel Mclean (just out of picture below)
lifting the ball over the keeper into the top corner.
Nook
keeper Scott Bowskill produced a superb save from a Dolni Jircany free
kick to keep the score at 1-0.
The resulting corner caused the Pen Nook
defence problems (see
picture below)
but after scrambling the ball clear a great ball on the right from Craig
Thickett found Ryan Cockayne in space but he wasted a great opportunity to
extend the Nook's lead. As
half time approached both teams began to tire in the heat but an excellent
run and cross from Mark England-Woodcock was well defended.
Both teams made several changes at half
time due to the heat,
but again it was Pen Nook which took an early advantage through a Daniel
Lewis super strike. Ben Bissat played a
long ball from the Nook defence which was collected by Daniel Lewis and
with the Dolni Jircany defence backing off he hit
a 30yrd pile-driver leaving the keeper with no chance.
As the game progressed Dolni Jircany had
several close chances and
their pressure paid off to make
it 2-1 in the 80th minute with a great
strike that went in off a post. The
last 10 minutes was all Pen Nook though
with Mark England-Woodcock & Ryan Cockayne missing chances but Steven
Marshall nearly produced a wonder goal with a Maradona style run beating 3
defenders only to fluff his chance and the
game finished 2-1 to Pen Nook which was a great credit to both English
football & The Blades Super Draw League,
The game was arranged with thanks to
their contact in Czech Republic, Dusan Marat and player Mark
England-Woodcock. The Pen Nook FC would
also like to thank
