League Meeting, Monday 30 October -
First
Aid on the Agenda
At
Monday's 30 October League Meeting at Bramall Lane, 7.30 pm, the FA's First Aid tutor Russell Whiteley
will speak
about the importance of First Aid and to provide detail of the First Aid
and other sports injury courses available through the FA. The League is hoping to be able to provide sufficient people,
approx 16 -20, for a First Aid course to be set up solely for Blades Super
Draw clubs. If your club hasn't got someone with a registered First Aid
certificate then you should take advantage, and even if you already have someone,
it would be a good idea to have another qualified person. If your club
is interested - and it should be - then please bring along the name(s) of
the person(s) you wish to nominate. The initial cost of the First Aid
course is £10 (cheques made payable to Sheffield Sunday Sports League), but this will be refunded by the League on completion. Please
draw this to the attention of your club members.

CBC
Premier - Omens were
bad for George after Damon's treble
Damon Blakemore
(pictured left) netted a first half hat-trick as League champions Woodhouse George crashed to their first league defeat of the season at arch rivals Woodhouse West End and lost the CBC Premier top spot to them in the process. Stannington Village also slipped down from second as they lost at Handsworth WMC, but the shock results weren't confined to the top division. Division Two leaders Park & Arbourthorne crashed to an astonishing 7-4 home defeat by Millhouses Abacrombie and Handsworth Old Boys were hit for six by promotion rivals Sportsman Stannington.
On the morning the clocks went back, Woodhouse George seemed to be suffering a time delay as Damon Blakemore's quick fire treble had West End in charge and even though Chris Towey took advantage of a rare error by keeper Alan Hawkins to pull one back for George, a Jamie Walters strike restored West End's three goal advantage by the interval.
George seemed to wake up after the interval and netted again through Michael Blythen, but Spencer Taylor rubbed salt in George's wounds with a fifth for West End and a terrific performance by West End's defence was surpassed only by that of referee D Godwin who handled the demands of the local derby superbly.
That result gave Stannington Village the chance to reclaim top spot at Handsworth WMC, but a twenty five yard free kick by Robert Pratt gave Handsworth a first half lead and Pratt netted his second shortly after the break. Stannington rallied and levelled with Steve Taylor and Ben Palmer strikes, but just three minutes later some sloppy defending allowed Simon Flaherty to restore Handsworth's lead. Handsworth's keeper then made a string of great saves to earn his side a first win since the second week of the season and ruin Stannington's perfect away record.
Hemsworth Villa celebrated their new sponsorship with Brian and Pat Woolley of Church Farm, Ridgeway by going third after a single goal from full back Tom Crosby gave them all three points at Stocksbridge Park Steels. It was an impressive display by Villa and had it not been for the home keeper Ian Bishop, Villa would have won by a much more convincing margin.
Another single goal victory came Redmires way at Niagara. An opportunists strike by Luke Siggs early in the second half gave Redmires the lead, but the points only came their way after Karl Taylor brilliantly saved Simon Staniforth's spot kick after Mark Hardisty had given a penalty away.
Goals form Greg Sykes and veteran Andy Chafer finally gave The Park their first win of the season, 2-0 at Lord Nelson, but they are still two points adrift after Laycock Sports gained their first away win of the season, 3-2 at Pen Nook. Scott Wesney put Laycock's in front, but a Ryan Cockayne header and a Chris Newton strike had Nook in front by the interval. With Ryan Dunn giving a real captain's performance, Laycock's hit back after the break and levelled when Danny Milner headed home and they won it with another header from Lloyd McPherson in the final minute of the game.
Division
1 - Marrison treble
keeps Telecom on line
After Paul Marrison put them ahead in the first minute, Division One leaders Telecom Sports looked to be on their way to a comfortable victory at Pitsmoor Hotel when a Lee Johnson penalty and a Danny Nelson strike put them three up, but Pitsmoor suddenly found their shooting boots and Scott
Sjazes, Gavin Davies and Delroy Elliott strikes in the space of three minutes had them level by the interval. Telecom used the break to gather themselves and took control again when Danny Mace crossed for Marrison to put them back in front and he sealed their victory with his third.
Oxspring Lowood stayed right behind them with victory in a seven goal thriller with Loxley. Andy Horsfall put Oxspring ahead only to see Simon Mirfin's chip wipe it out and it was Loxley's turn to go ahead when Geoff Mayfield headed home. Sub Jack Jones had Oxspring supporters singing when he netted with his first touch after the break and Richard Cookson then put them back in front. John Bailey dragged Loxley level again, but after Richard Hurst put Oxspring back in front again they couldn't find another reply.
Ecclesfield Travellers climbed to third with a 2-0 victory at Woodseats Abbey in a game that was a terrific advert for Sunday football. A mistake by the home defence was pounced on by Glen Bell to give Travellers a first half lead and Kevin Wraith wrapped up the points with a header at the back post.
It was celebration time for the bottom two as both Oughtibridge Village and Fletchers (formerly Burgoyne Arms) grabbed their first wins of the season. Trailing to Craig Woolley's strike for Mosborough Royal Oak, Oughtibridge hit back in the second half and won it with two Ian Duroe goals. Mark Tiler gave Fletchers a first half lead, but Chris Crichlow levelled for Half Moon soon after the break. Fletchers' Matt Roberts then spurned a golden opportunity to put his side back in front when he saw his penalty saved, but Fletchers weren't to be denied and Scott Lees ended his mazy run with the perfect finish.
It looks like the end of the road for Division One side Boundary Sports. After they failed to fulfil their fixture against Royal Oak
Pitsmoor, the club's management have indicated that the team is set to fold.
Division
2 - Ally and Olly
have a ball as Abacrombie stun leaders
Division Two's top two were stopped in their tracks as their defences suddenly started leaking faster than a water through a sieve. Park & Arbourthorne hadn't lost a league game for more than two seasons and it looked business as usual when a Dan Johnson own goal put them ahead at home to
Millhouses Abacrombie (pictured left) in the first minute, but the visitors hit back quickly to level through Ally Berry. Although Danny Adkins restored park's lead, Joe Keating's left foot levelled again and it was Millhouses turn to go in front when Will Dunwell netted.
A Mark Bingham penalty levelled for Park before half time, but they went behind again when Sam Bartram finished from Ally Berry's long throw. Millhouses want to put Dan Johnson in a Miami vice when he netted a second own goal to bring Park level again, but the very impressive Olly Humphreys produced an expert finish to put Millhouses back in front again. They weren't going to let it go again this time and two more long throws by Berry were finished off by Keating and Tom Gardiner to give Millhouses an astonishing 7-4 victory.
Cutlers Arms are now the only Division Two side to have won all its games. Their latest win though was an unconvincing 3-1 victory over bottom side Hollin Bush. A Mark Franklin penalty, a David Haslam header and a Steve Cousins strike put Cutlers three up but Bush weren't overrun and Mark Cummins grabbed them a deserved consolation.
Handsworth Old Boys and Sportsman Stannington had played out a goalless draw a few weeks ago, but after Liam Bamforth's free kick had given Sportsman a first half lead, there was no stopping them in the second half. Chris King added a second and Bamforth's second came from the penalty spot. James Wood headed Sportsman's fourth, Johnny Davis added a fifth and Alan Lam chipped a sixth.
Civil Service missed the chance to go joint third when they crashed to their second home defeat at the hands of a Fairbank Rhodes beginning to look more like the side expected. Service though were their own worst enemies as all three goals they conceded were avoidable and they missed a penalty.
The first came when their defence watched a free kick come back off the crossbar and Mitchell Robinson had the simple task of tapping home unhindered. Man of the match Dean Grayson then took advantage of a mistake by Baz Durrans to double Fairbank's lead, but Dave Whitby's run and shot from the edge of the area just before half time gave Service a boost.
Service rarely looked like breaking down an organised defence, but were handed a great opportunity when they were awarded a hotly disputed penalty, but Richard Hodgson wasted it when he could only hit the outside of a post. Virtually straight away the visitors went down the pitch and Durrans needlessly upended Grayson in the box to concede a penalty and although keeper Jamie Jewitt saved Grayson's spot kick, Joe Knight followed up to score and confirm a deserved victory.
Colley Club finally earned their first win of the season, 4-2 at Lisano Giants. A Tony Edge double and one each from Dean Constable and Andy Williams had Colley four up by the interval and although Newman Conneh and Nadjo Nbikyai pulled two back for the Giants in the second half, Colley never looked like letting that first win slip away from them.

Senior
Sunday Cup - It's
simple for Simon as Niagara stroll through
It
was simple for Simon Staniforth (pictured right) as his hat-trick inspired Niagara to
another terrific Sunday Senior Cup win at The Kendray in Barnsley and they
are joined in the next round by Woodhouse West End after they sent another
Meadowhall side tumbling, and by Hemsworth Villa who had a nervy win over
Hallcarr Tavern, but Woodhouse George's and Laycock Sports' runs came to
an end.
Niagara had a difficult trip to Barnsley's The Kendray, but helped by a strong wind they were as good as through by half time. Simon Staniforth struck home their first, then his brother Tom finished off a glorious move to make it two. Simon then headed a third and a fourth just before the interval from Tom Oxley left the home side with a mountain to climb. The young home side rallied briefly in the second half though and pulled two back, but Simon Staniforth lobbed a fifth over the advancing keeper to seal Niagara's place in the last thirty
two.
They are joined by Woodhouse West End after they accounted for a second
Meadowhall side in succession when a single Dave Kippax (pictured
left)
goal in the first
half gave them victory over Ecclesfield Ball. Kippax was involved in a lot
more defensive action in the second half, but with the help of an
outstanding display by keeper Alan Hawkins, West End held on.
It looked as if Hemsworth Villa were going to go through easily when Lee
Webber's header and another from Lee Taylor put them two up at home to
Hallcarr Tavern, but Villa switched off and their visitors were level by
the interval. A second from Webber and a header by Adam Gage once again
put Villa in control, but after Gage then put one into his own net they
had to suffer a nervy finish.
Laycock Sports had more than half of their squad in Prague, so they knew
their tie with Domino of Rotherham was always going to be difficult and
despite giving it their best shot and goals from Matt kent and Steve
Morris their visitors went through 3-2.
It was a similar scoreline as Woodhouse George slipped to a surprise
defeat by Doncaster's Rockingham Hotel. George just weren't at the races
in the first half as their visitors built a three goal lead and although
Michael Blythen pulled two of them back after the break, they couldn't
quite get that all-important third.
Junior
Sunday Cup - Adkins
double seals late win for Park
Park
and Arbourthorne led the way in the Sunday Junior Cup as two more Daniel
Adkins goals helped them to victory at Swinton and Telecom Sports joined
them after an amazing eleven goal thriller with Denaby Rovers. Also
through are Burgoyne Arms and Mosborough Royal Oak, but Pitsmoor Hotel,
Hollin Bush and Millhouses Abacrombie all bit the dust.
Park & Arbourthorne knew they had a very tough trip to Swinton and
with neither side on top, the game remained goalless until the seventieth
minute when the Swinton keeper spilled Simon Windles shot and Darren
Knowles tapped home. The keeper then dropped a cross at the feet of Daniel
Adkins and he fired home, and, after a home player was shown a straight
red, Adkins added a third.
Mosborough Royal Oak put their indifferent league form behind them to
register a convincing 3-1 at Doncaster's Woodland Wanderers. Ricky
Davidson gave Oak an early lead and Kevin Ford doubled it before half
time. Their hosts pulled one back in the second half, but Davidson's hot
streak continued as he hit Oak's third to clinch it.
The most exciting tie came at Telecom Sports who just edged through after an eleven goal thriller with a previously unbeaten Denaby Rovers. Dan Nelson quickly put Telecom ahead and although Denaby levelled almost as quickly, a Paul Marrison strike and a second from Nelson had Telcom 3-1 up at the interval.
Marrison extended the lead with his second, before Denaby pulled one back, but Telecom's three goal lead was restored by Simon Smith's penalty. Denaby then netted twice, but a second penalty put away by Smith gave Telecom some breathing space and they needed it as Denaby netted again with a few minutes left. Telecom held on though, but they are going to have to defend better if they want to go
much further.
Burgoyne Arms gave their visitors High Street from Barnsley an early shock
when Scott Lee hammered home a free kick. Although Burgoyne then went on
to dominate play, they were forced into extra time when their visitors
caught them on the break, but Burgoyne needn't have worried as Mark Groves
netted a deserved winner from the edge of the area.
A double from Carl Cullen and one from Ryan Kirk meant Hollin Bush's brave
run also took in extra time, but their hosts Pomona found that bit extra
in added time and ran out 5-3 winners. Pitsmoor Hotel's exit was more
straight forward and Gavin Davies's goal was nothing more than a
consolation as Mexborough's Oak Tree Inn went through 4-1.
It was also a hard luck story for Millhouses Abacrombie who went down 3-2
at Rotherham's Upper Haugh Dynamoes. A slip by keeper Mark Davis gifted
the home side the lead and worse was to follow when Davis followed England
keeper Paul Robinson's lead by letting Will Dunwell's twenty five yard
pass back go over his boot and into the net.
Davis could do nothing to stop a twenty yard volley to put Upper Haugh
three up, but Millhouses then decided to play and Robin Dolman got in
front of the keeper to put Adam Sturch's cross away. Sturch then swivelled
to grab a second for Millhouses in the second half, but despite laying
siege to the home side's goal for the rest of the game an equaliser just
wouldn't come.
CBC
Premier - Nook have
a stroll at The Park & Handsworth cant stop the birthday boy Siggs
In
the league Pen Nook climbed out of the CBC Premier's bottom three with an
impressive 5-0 victory at The Park. Ryan Cockayne put Nook ahead early on
and man of the match Christian Newton quickly doubled it. Another goal
each from Cockayne and Newton had Nook firmly in control by half time and
although The Park gave a much better account of themselves after the
break, Daniel Lewis wrapped up the scoring with Nook's fifth.
Birthday Boy Luke Siggs' (pictured) treble helped Redmires to their first home win of
the season and make it three wins from their last four. Danny Lindley's
cross gave him the perfect opportunity to head Redmires into a first half
lead. Siggs then volleyed a second midway through the second half and
after Lindley was brought down in the area, Siggs completed his birthday
celebrations from the spot.
Division
1 - Loxley hit by
Mellor fever and Oxspring also miss out on top spot
Both
Oxspring Lowood and Loxley had the chance to leapfrog Telecom Sports to
the top of Division One, but both missed the opportunity on a day when the
four games produced no fewer than thirty three goals.
Oxspring Lowood came closest to taking top spot, but they were denied when
Kieron Webb grabbed a last gasp equaliser for Ecclesfield Travellers.
After a goalless first half, John Ward put Oxspring ahead only to see it
cancelled out by Craig Senior. Glen Bell then hit his first of the season
to put Travellers ahead, but it was then Oxspring turn to level it through
Richard Hurst.
The game was already in it's final minute when Ward scored his second, but
Travellers went straight back down the pitch and Webb levelled with the
last kick of the game.
Loxley's hopes were dashed by a four goal blast by Royal Oak Pitmoor's
John Mellor (pictured). Anthony Rogers and Andy Jones hit two more for Oak as they
always had the upper hand and Loxley only briefly levelled a couple of
times through John Bailey's double and an own goal, making Paul Simpson
fourth for Loxley nothing more than a consolation.
Another ten goals came as Half Moon beat local rivals Boundary Social 6-4.
Boundary were the first to show and quickly built a two goal lead, but
Chris Crichlow, Mark Ramsden and Andy Smith goals had Moon in front by
half time. Ramsden and Crichlow added another each either side of one from
Nathan Kingswood, although Boundary never gave up and pulled two back
through Nathan Hurst.
Adrian Von Wurzbach was back to his goalscoring best as Woodseats Abbey
ended their mini slump with a hard earned 4-3 victory over a plucky
Oughtibridge Village. Von Wurzbach netted twice to give Abbey the
advantage and although Matt Siddall pulled on back, Abbey's two goal lead
was restored by Mark Richards. Village hit back again and levelled through
Andy Ogden and Pete Wells strikes, but Von Wurzbach had the final say to
snatch a winner for Abbey.
Division
2 - Old Boys on
track, while Franklin treble keeps Cutlers in touch
There
was almost as many goals in Division Two, with Sportsman Stannington
leading the way with an 8-1 thrashing of Lisano Giants. Chris King and
Matt Jessermino grabbed two each and the home side's others came from John
davis, Liam Bamforth, Alan Lam and Robert Jerrison, while Giants'
consolation came from Abu Sesay.
Handsworth Old Boys came next with as doubles from Trevor Jones and Tommy
Brown helped them to a 6-2 victory at Colley Club. Joe Barret and Danny
Muller netted the Old Boys others to keep them firmly in second place,
while Colley replied through Tony Hodge and an own goal.
Despite falling behind to Joe Knight's strike for Fairbank Rhodes, a Mark
Franklin treble helped Cutlers Arms to the 4-2 victory that maintained
their 100% record. Scott Smedley netted Cutler's other while Matt Nestor
briefly gave the home side the chance to get something from the game.
Civil Service looked to be on their way to a very comfortable victory at
Woodhouse Angel when Wayne Stacey, Martyn Kitridge and Richard Hodgson
goals had them three up at the interval, but Angel Darryl Thomas grabbed a
first for Angel soon after the break before Kitridge headed the own goal
of the season to leave Service sweating.
Jim Linfoot then twice hit the woodwork for Angel, but Simon Hall settled
the Service nerves by heading home and Alan Pickard rammed home a fifth to
make the points save before Jack Moorhouse netted a third for the home
side.

Lord
Nelson is right up Downing's Street
Niagara Lord Nelson won't
need a parliamentary enquiry to find the reason they suffered a third home
defeat of the season as their defence seemed to be right up Redmires' four
goal Sean Downing's street.
Downing gave Redmires an early lead only to see it cancelled out by Dave
Thompson, but after Danny Lindley had opened up the home defence to allow
Downing to grab his second their was no stopping him and he went on to add
another two to his tally, for a win that lifts Redmires out of the bottom
three.
Another man to produce a four star show was Stannington Village's Ben
Palmer. Craig Barraclough had given hosts Pen Nook the lead on fifteen
minutes, but Palmer soon go cracking and hit his first with a sweet
volley. A move down the right gave him the chance for his second, although
his hat-trick goal looked to be more of a cross than a shot as it went in
off a post. There was no luck about his fourth and just to rub salt into
Pen Nook's wounds, David Hague set Steve Taylor up for a fifth.
They weren't the CBC Premier's top scorers though as that honour went to
leaders Woodhouse George, who hit The Park for six. George had the game as
good as won with three in the first ten minutes and doubles from Chris
Towey and Luke Browse plus others from Michael Blythen and Kirk Briddon
kept George firmly in control of top spot, although The Park fully
deserved their consolation from Joe Barker.
Woodhouse West End trailed to Mark Barraclough's goal for Stocksbridge
Park Steels and could have been two down when Steels hit a post, so they
decided it was time for change at half time and it worked a treat as sub
Jamie Walters levelled with an audacious backheel flick. West End then
went on to dominate play and their winner eventually came when Damien
Blakemore curled a free kick that gave the keeper no chance.
Hemsworth Villa lost ground on the others though after they had to settle
for a share of the spoils at Handsworth WMC. Simon Flaherty slammed the
hosts in front after just three minutes and for a long time it looked as
if they might gain a shock victory. Full back Joe Shaw had other ideas
though and he came up to hit an unstoppable volley to bring Villa level
and he nearly grabbed a second, although Lee Webber had the best chance to
win it for Villa, but was denied by the keeper.
Niagara showed that the previous weekend's cup win was no fluke when they
came from behind to beat another of the cup heroes, Laycock Sports. Scott
Wesney gave Laycock's an early lead and if they had taken some of the
further chances they created in the first half, they would have been out
of sight by the break, but just as they had done in the cup, after half
time Niagara came out strongly and took the points with headers from Tom
Staniforth and Liam Pigott.
Telecom back on top as
their main rivals all slip up
Oxspring Lowood's
goalless draw with Woodseats Abbey allowed Telecom Sports to return to the
top of Division One by hammering Boundary Sports. Richard Hanson opened
the scoring for Telecom when he followed up after his first shot had been
spilled by the keeper, but a deflected Nathan Hurst free kick soon brought
Boundary level. boundary then had a player dismissed and Hanson stole in
to restore Telecom's lead before half time.
After the break it was all Telecom. Lee Johnson set up Luke Marrison for
their third before Johnson added his own name to the scoresheet and Simon
Smith added two more as Telecom scored six for a second consecutive week.
It was a good week for Telecom as all their other main rivals also dropped
points. Loxley went to an Oughtibridge Village that had become the
whipping boys of late, but soon found themselves two down. Duroe chipped
the first past the keeper and Adams stabbed home the second and it could
have been worse for Loxley as Simon Mirfin saved a penalty and the follow
up. Loxley got back into it through John Bailey and got just what the
doctor ordered when Carl Wells popped up for the equaliser.
Pitsmoor Hotel and Ecclesfield Travellers also dropped points as they
shared six goals between them in a game that both sides thought they had
won. Craig Senior found his shooting boots again to put Travellers ahead
and when he headed a second it looked like Travellers were in control, but
Delroy Elliott and Scot Szajers strikes had Pitsmoor level before half
time. Pitsmoor then had their turn to look like winners when Gavin Davies
put them ahead, but Travellers had the final word when Scott Johnson set
Senior up for his third to give his side a share of the spoils.
The clash of the Royal Oaks saw Pitsmoor make it two wins out of two away
from home and shatter Mosborough's unbeaten home record. Jordan Pierce
gave Pitsmoor a first half lead and although Brent Healey levelled with
his first of the season soon after the break, two more from Pierce and one
from John Mellor had Pitsmoor firmly in control before Will Blakeney
netted a second for Mosborough.
Park pip Sportsman,
while Barrett homes in on second place for Old Boys
Division Two leaders Park
& Arbourthorne were expecting their hardest game of the season from a
Sportsman Stannington just a place behind them and they weren't
disappointed. Park pressed first and Daniel Adkins hit a post, but it took
a penalty just minutes before half time for them to break through. It came
for a push on Darren Knowles and Mark Bingham made light of two previous
spot kick misses to beat the keeper.
Sportsman began to get into the game more after the break and almost
levelled when Lam hit the bar. Matt Knowles also twice cleared off the
line and keeper Steve Whitehead needed to make several good saves, but
Park were always dangerous on the break and when Carl Hopwood had his shot
parried, Adkins followed up to net his fourteenth of the season and seal
Park's fifth win out of five. A moment of great sportsmanship came late in
the game when the ref gave a third goal to Park, but was persuaded to
change his decision by the Park players after they told him the ball had
gone in off a hand rather than a head.
Handsworth Old Boys leapt over Sportsman with a single Joe Barrett goal
victory over Hollin Bush and right behind them are a Cutlers Arms yet to
drop a league point. Doubles for James Haslam and Tom Moynahan, together
with others from Steve Cousins, Scott Smedley and Kenny Brakes gave them a
7-0 victory over Woodhouse Angel, while another side to find their
shooting boots was Fairbank Rhodes.
A Dean Grayson treble, two from man of the match Craig Guilfoyle and Steve
Bates's first of the season gave Fairbank a 6-1 victory at Lisano Giants,
who's only goal came from Nadjo.
The other game saw a goalless stalemate between Civil Service and
Millhouses Abacrombie, but it wasn't without incident. Millhouses, with
Olli Humphreys causing trouble down the right had the better of the first
half and they should have taken the lead when Ally Berry was flattened in
the area. After picking himself up to take the penalty, Berry's first spot
kick was ruled out due to encroachment and he blasted his second attempt
wide. Keeper Mark Davies then pulled off the save of the match to deny
Service's Martyn Kitridge and although the second half saw penalty claims
waved away and chances at both ends, neither side could breakthrough.

Crown
fall to Niagara, while West End & Laycocks show Brunsmeer the door
Niagara caused the shock
of the Second Round of the Sunday Senior Cup when they put out Meadowhall Premier Handsworth Old Crown
after a penalty shoot-out, while Brunsmeer Athletic's 'A' & 'B' sides
were shown the door by Woodhouse West End and Laycock Sports respectively
Niagara pulled off the shock of The County FA Senior Sunday Cup 2nd Round when they put out the Meadowhall League's Premier leaders Handsworth Old Crown and there was more success against Meadowhall opponents for Woodhouse West End and Laycock Sports who accounted for Brunsmeer Athletic's 'A' & 'B' sides. Joining them are Woodhouse George after an emphatic victory over Foxhill Rangers and Hemsworth Villa who beat Pen Nook in the all-Blades Super Draw tie.
When Niagara fell behind to the Meadowhall Premier
leaders Handsworth Old Crown after just twenty minutes they must have
feared the worst, but with skipper Brendan Burns outstanding, Niagara
weathered the storm and after the break came out to take the game by the
scruff of the neck. Liam Pigott (pictured) was causing the home side all sorts of
problems so it was fitting that his goal after leaving three defenders in
his wake levelled the scores.
Soon after, the game really swung in Niagara’s
favour when the Crown keeper was dismissed for bringing Craig Foster down
just outside the area. Pigott almost won it in the final minute of normal
time, but his shot came back off the woodwork and Niagara hit the woodwork
again in extra time when Tommy Oxley’s free kick smashed against the
crossbar. That meant a penalty shoot out and the hero was Niagara’s
stand in goalkeeper Matthew Stagg who both scored and saved a penalty to
leave Craig Foster to step up to hit the winning spot kick.
After a goalless first half, Woodhouse West End took a firm grip of their tie against Brunsmeer Athletic 'A' through Spencer Taylor's volley and Ashley Atkins' solo goal and although the home side pulled one back late on, they couldn't
breach the West End defence a second time.
It didn't look good for Laycock Sports when they found themselves two down early on against Brunsmeer's 'B' side, but a Simon Bartles penalty put Laycock's back in it and they were level before half time when Danny Milner found the net. The second half saw Laycock's dominate and Steve Morris put them in front with one of his trademark cheeky chips. Scott Wesney got on the end of a Milner cross to increase their lead and he added another when he met Kirk Hardman's cross before Morris rubbed it in against his old side with Laycock's sixth.
CBC Premier leaders Woodhouse George started sluggishly against Foxhill Rangers, but after a roasting at half time they made their class tell and went through comfortably as a Michael Blythen double and one each for Gareth Scarlett and Chris Towey gave them a 4-0 victory.
Stefan Harris's hat-trick enabled Hemsworth Villa to join them in the next round after they came from behind to win their all-Blades Super Draw tie against Pen Nook 4-1. Damian Smith gave Nook the lead and they could easily have had a couple more, but after Lee Webber levelled Villa took control Harris netted with two headers before completing his treble from the penalty spot.
Redmires will count themselves very unlucky not to join them after they fell to Denby Street Sportsman in a penalty shoot-out. Denby led at half time, but Luke Siggs netted to take the game to extra time. Neither side could find a winner so it went to penalties and for once Redmires were found wanting and could only score once from the spot.
Despite a severely weakened side Stannington Village got off to the perfect start against Packhorse Celtic when Josh Wright put them ahead, but they couldn't hold on to the lead and Celtic ran out comfortable 3-1 winners. Despite their best performance for weeks, The Park suffered the same fate at home to HSBC and Lee Bridges goal couldn't stop them going out 3-1.
Telecom hit Travellers
for six, while Oak stumble to the Bush
Telecom Sports won the tie of the round in the Junior Sunday Cup, hitting fellow Division One side, and last season's semi finalists Ecclesfield Travellers for six, while Millhouses Abacrombie also hit six to go through at Tavern Tigers. Hollin Bush put their poor Division Two form behind them to win at Division One Royal Oak
Pitsmoor, while Pitsmoor Hotel, Burgoyne Arms, Park & Arbourthorne and Mosborough Royal Oak join them in the next round.
Telecom Sports visit to fellow Blades Super Draw Division One side and last season's semi finalists Ecclesfield Travellers was expected to be one of the ties of the round, but it turned out to be a one-sided affair as telecom went goal crazy. Danny Mace grabbed two, and Paul Marrison another before an own goal put them four up. Simon Smith hit a fifth and Richard Bellamy a sixth as Travellers dreams of a repeat of last season's run was blown away.
The other all-Blades Super Draw ties were much closer, but did produce one shock as a Hollin Bush side still waiting for its first point in Division Two beat Division One Royal Oak Pitsmoor with a breakaway Jordie Loy strike. It was very much a backs to the wall victory for Bush as the home side pounded their goal, but for once Bush's defence held firm.
After Joe Sands and Andy Marsh had put Mosborough Royal Oak two up at Woodseats Abbey, the home side hit back to level through Chris Leek and Sal Fowsey, but Oak regained their two goal lead with Ricky Davidson and man-of-the-match Richard Mills strikes before
Adrian Von Wurzbach's goal for Abbey gave them a tense last few minutes.
A Scott Szajers double and one each from Gavin Davies and Leon Stocks from the penalty spot saw Pitsmoor Hotel build a 4-1 lead by half time at Boundary Sports. The home side hit back after the break and added to Scott Wostenholme's first half goal with Spencer Coulton and Nathan Hurst strikes, but they couldn't quite force another and it was Lee Percival that popped up in the final minute to confirm Pitsmoor's place in the next round.
Four goals from Adam Sterch and a Joe Keeting double helped Millhouses Abacrombie continue their goal feast with six at Tavern Tigers. A goal down early on, Millhouses hit back to lead 3-2 at half time and although they ran out comfortable winners, they still needed a string of great saves by keeper Mark Davis to keep the Tigers at bay.
After John Bates had put Park & Arbourthorne in front at The Albion there was only going to be one winner. Their lead was doubled before half time when Jason Hopwood set up Daniel Adkins, although Hopwood then gave his side a few nervous moments after the break when he conceded the penalty that gave Albion a glimmer of hope. He needn't have worried though as Adkins added another to his already impressive total for the season.
Burgoyne Arms also went through after their opponents Forum AFC failed to raise a team, but there was not such good fortune for Woodhouse Angel who went out to a single goal at Firth Park WMC. Cutlers Arms were the only other fallers with Scott Smedley and a Mark Franklin penalty being not quite enough to stop them losing 3-2 at Pomona.
Parkin double helps Nelson to first
away win
After trailing aft half time to a Mark Barraclough goal for Stocksbridge Park Steels, Lord Nelson produced some of their best football of the season to record their first ever CBC Premier away win. A Barry Parkin double and one each from John Wood and Andy Orr made Barraclough's second for Steels just a consolation.
Jowitt brothers see Oxspring
to the top, while Bailey treble lifts Loxley
Oxspring Lowood are the new leaders of Division One after their 3-1 home win over Half Moon. Thomas Jowitt gave Oxspring a first half lead and although Moon levelled just after the break through Alistair Gears, Oxspring were soon back in front when Simon Jowitt made the most of a corner. Moon did their best to get back into the game, but Adrian Ellis finally made top spot safe for the home side.
Loxley are joint second after a John Bailey treble helped them to a comfortable 5-1 victory over struggling Oughtibridge Village. Bailey headed Loxley in front before Paul Simpson cottoned on to an under hit back pass to make it two. Bailey's second was followed by one from Geoff Mayfield.
Bailey was then given the perfect opportunity to complete his hat-trick when Loxley were awarded a penalty and although he nearly made a hash of it when his spot kick was saved, he followed up to ram home the rebound. Oughtibridge's only consolation came late on when James Mace hit the best goal of the game.
GRAYSON AND GUILFOYLE LIFT FAIRBANK
RHOIDES
Fairbank Rhodes finally gained their first win of the season as one from Joe Knight and a Dean Grayson double gave them a 3-2 victory over Lisano Giants. Omaro and Kabu goals made sure the visitors were always in the game and had it not been for Craig Guilfoyle's performance for
Fairbank, Lisano may well have gone home with a point.
Doubles from Paul Barnett and Dave Whitby gave Civil Service their first home win of the season, 4-1 over a Colley Club that didn't have the best of luck. Whitby set up Barnett for the first as the Colley defence waited for an offside decision that never came and Whitby netted the second when he latched onto a loose ball.
Colley then began to push the home side back and deservedly pulled one back when Paul Smith beat the offside trap and their luck seemed to have changed when Barnett spurned the chance to hit his second when he blazed a hotly disputed penalty high over the bar.
Barnett made amends though a few minutes later when he finished off the games best move with a neat flick past the keeper to give Service a 3-1 half time lead. Just after the break Colley knew it wasn't going to be their day when Alan Pickard appeared to win the ball unfairly before hitting a perfect ball to Whitby for Service's fourth.
Although Sportsman Stannington moved into second place they missed the chance to make up more ground on the leaders when they were held to a goalless draw by Handsworth Old Boys.

their good run of form at the top of the table with a comfortable win over
in the end over Boundary Sports.Up to half time there was no score but

equalised by David Goudge. Boundary then had a player sent off and this
changed the course of the game with Paul Marrison rattling in a quickfire
hattrick and Smith getting a 2nd wrapping the game up for Telecoms.
Woodseats Abbey who had
been in 2nd place prior to their match with Pitsmoor Hotel fielded a
understrength side and paid the price in the first five minutes when
conceding two goals both scored by Gavin Davies, the 2nd one being a coolly
executed chip over the keeper. Woodseats battled on
and didn't concede further but the damage had been done.

Service, although Service held them for 40 minutes.Leading scorer Danny
