17 DEC – SUNDAY CUP – Eckington and Stannington go through to the last 8 – Eckington
came from behind to beat Rotherham Premier AFC Lord Nelson 3-1 to go
through the County FA Sunday Cup quarter finals for the first time. Lord
Nelson had the weather conditions in their favour in the first half and
took the lead from a corner after 30 minutes, but Eckington quickly hit
back when Rob Stinger showed great strength to hold off a defender and
score from close range. Eckington had the conditions in their favour in
the second half and took the lead when Cameron Evans fastened onto a
long ball and fired into the bottom corner. They sealed victory in the
final minute when Joel Cousins scored from the edge of the area.
Eckington will now entertain Rotherham's FC Ship Inn in the quarter
finals on 14 Jan
They are joined by last season’s losing finalists Stannington Village
after they won the all-Blades Super Draw affair at Oughtibridge WM 6-2. Oscar
Seth fired into the top corner to give Stannington the lead and it was
doubled when Danny Smith laid it back for Charlie Hobson to score from
20 yards. It was 3-0 when a short corner routine finished with Seb
Robbemond heading into the bottom corner. Luke Needham pulled one back
for Oughtibridge before the break, but Stannington quickly took control
in the second half when Ben Cook’s cross allowed Luca DeFalco to score
at the second attempt. Harley Scholey then set Jon Wall up for
Stannington’s fifth and their sixth came when Wall’s pass allowed
DeFalco to spin in the box before taking it round the keeper to score.
Brendon Drew scored a second consolation for Oughtibridge late on.
Stannington will enetrtain Mexborough's Westville in the quarter finals
Despite
taking the lead through Richard Tootle, Royal Earl went out 3-1 to
Mexborough’s Queens United.
17 DEC – SUNDAY TROPHY – WH Crookes, Boynton and Jubilee Rangers all make the last 8 – The
league will have three teams in the last 8 of the County FA Sunday
Trophy. WH Crookes impressively beat Rotherham Division 1 leaders AFC
Maltby 4-0. George Bemba and Louis Flynn strikes gave Crookes a two goal
lead at the break and the second half saw Flynn add his second before
Oliver McQuillin completed the scoring. Crookes will now entertain
Wakefield’s Dale Club in the quarter finals on 21 Jan.
Division 1 leaders Boynton Sports won their all-Blades Super Draw tie
with Division 2 Cotts 3-1. Alastair Holland gave Boynton the lead which
was soon doubled by a Richie Atkins strike. Cotts pulled one back
through veteran strike Michael Blythen, but the tie was settled by a
Jake Bonnett goal for Boynton. Boynton are scheduled to be at home in
the quarter finals, but their opponents aren’t yet known
Another all-Blades Super Draw tie
Jubilee Rangers beat fellow Division 1 side AFC Dronfield on penalties
after the sides drew 1-1. After a goalless first half, Jubilee took the
lead when Adam Darton turned home the opener. It looked like that might
be enough, but last season’s finalists Dronfield fought back and took
the game to a penalty shoot-out with a Josh Sell goal. Jubilee scored
their first four penalties and after Dronfield had already missed one,
Jubilee keeper james Gamble saved one to put Jubilee through. Jubilee
will travel to either Barnsley's Williams Bar Cudworth or Doncaster's
Scawthorpe Herons.
Brunsmeer
went out 4-0 to Barnsley’s Darfield Queen Vic and, despite a Reece James
strike, Wadsley FC also went out, 2-1 to Barnsley’s AFC Pogmoor.
17 DEC – CBC PREMIER – Chapeltown
back on top – The
day’s only CBC Premier game saw Chapeltown RBL go back to the top with a
2-0 victory at Wadsley Bridge Pheasant. With strong winds and an uneven
pitch meant it wasn’t pleasant viewing with neither side able to get the
ball down and the first half stayed goalless. The second half saw
Chapeltown maintain their perfect away record with full back Jacob
Walkland opening the scoring at the back post after good work and cross
from Jed Phillips (right). Legion then got on top and doubled the lead as
Phillips chipped the keeper from outside the area. After that Lewis Fox
and the RBL back four defended well and made sure of a clean sheet as
well as 3 points and top spot.
17 DEC – DIVISION
1 – South back in
the promotion hunt, but Southey undone by Reds – Sheffield
South got back into the promotion hunt with a 6-2 home win over
Mosborough Lions as Jack price made it a debut to remember with a
hat-trick, with Luke Howson adding two more and their sixth from Alex
Masterson. Tom Davis and Billy Gillott netted for Lions, but it was
South’s day.
Southey
Social's hopes took a dive with a 1-0 defeat at a Mosborough Reds
unbeaten at home and who have conceded just two goals in four home
games. Southey had the benefit of a strong wind at their backs in the
first half, but they couldn’t capitalise on it. Southey looked the more
likely to score after the break, but the Reds keeper made a good save
from Daniel Jenkinson and Ryan Witney had a shot blocked. With time
running out Reds forced a corner and their big defender Jak Hotchin rose
highest to win it for his side.
17 DEC – DIVISION
2 – Wisewood hit
back to open up a gap at the top - The day’s only Division
Two game played saw leaders AFC Wisewood come back from two down to beat
Royal Oak 3-2 and open up a four point gap at the top. A Callum Sugden penalty and a Chay
Hill strike gave Royal Oak a two goal lead at the break, but Wisewood
hit back in the second half and pulled one back through Matt Civil,
before equalising with an Oscar Cam strike. The turnaround was completed
when Civil netted his second with a free kick. |
10 DEC – SUNDAY CUP – Woodman bow out, but the weather puts the rest on hold – The
torrential rain over the previous few days put paid to all but one of
the Sunday Cup ties involving our teams. The one that was played saw
Woodman FC go out 4-0 at FC Ship Inn, currently joint leaders of the Rotherham Premier Division.
10 DEC – CBC PREMIER – All
CBC Premier games postponed – The weather beat the two CBC Premier games due to be played.
10 DEC – DIVISION
1 – Boynton win
the battle of the top two – The Division One leaders Boynton Sports won 2-1 at a
Southey Social that started the day second. A tight first half ended
goalless and the second half continued in the same way until Smajl
Bytyci beat the Southey keeper to the cross and the ball went into the
net off his back. Boynton doubled their advantage when a cross to the
back post was headed back across goal to be bundled in by Alastair
Holland. Southey got back into the game when they were awarded a
penalty, put away by Jamie Hopkins and although Todd Guest went close to
an equaliser, Boynton held on.
Now second
is Jubilee Rangers after they came from behind to beat WH Crookes
2-1.Oliver McQuillin gave Crookes a half time lead, but Jubilee hit back
strongly after the break and levelled when Adam Darton volleyed home.
Further pressure followed and with time almost up, Liam Hill-Simmons
produced a cool finish to win it for Jubilee.
Up to third
is AFC Dronfield after a narrow 1-0 victory over Sheaf House. The winner
came in the first half when Joe Taylor scored with a free-kick, but it
wasn’t plain-sailing as Sheaf made it hard for Dronfield.
10 DEC – DIVISION
2 – Doubles all
round as Wisewood go top – Oscar Cam, Kai Overend and Declan Pinhorn all scored
twice as AFC Wisewood won 6-1 at Winter Green to go top of Division Two.
Just a single goal separated the teams at half-time, but a blistering
second half saw Wisewood romp home, with Brandon Wazirali’s goal being
Winter Green’s only consolation.
That win was
enough as previous leaders Brunsmeer were beaten 4-3 in a thriller at
third place Cueball. Brunsmeer were first to go in front with a Charlie
Clark strike, but it was cancelled out by a Matt Cadman goal for
Cueball. Brunsmeer went back in front with a Gaz Murdoch goal.
Travis Hodgson drew Cueball level a second time and he netted his
second to put Cueball in front and Blake Wightman extended the lead.
Brunsmeer did their best to get back into it and Brad Rains struck their
third with five minutes remaining, but Cueball held on.
Fourth place
Cotts had to settle for a point in an entertaining 3-3 draw at Wadsley
FC. Chris Salt put Cotts ahead, but Wadsley levelled with a Jack
Sanderson strike and they took the lead on the stroke of half-time with
a Callum North goal. After the break, Salt hit his second to level for
Cotts, but Wadsley went back in front with a Zak Cutts strike. It didn’t
last long though as Cotts levelled again with an Andrew Swift goal, but
that proved to be the last goal of the game. |
