Goals
galore as Stannington end Redmires run, and Crookes go top -
On a day when the 14 Blades Super Draw
League games produced a mammoth 50 goals, Tom Whiting's third
consecutive hat-trick for Redmires wasn't enough to keep their 17 match
winning run going as two Ema Gadour (left) strikes helped Stannington
Village to recover from two down to gain a 5-3 victory over them.
Whiting gave Redmires a two goal lead, but Shaun Flynn and Gadour
levelled the scores before half-time. After the break, Whiting restored
Redmires lead, a Gadour header levelled again before a Piers Bond
cross-cum shot found the top corner to put Stannington ahead. Lee
Johnstone then wrapped up the victory for Stannington with a contender
for the goal of the season when he chested the ball down before
producing a rocket half volley into the top corner.
That
defeat allowed Crookes to take over at the top after their 3-1 victory
at Oughtibridge WM. It might have been very different had Charlie Cope
not missed an early penalty for Oughtibridge and Callum Simms not
squandered a good chance soon after, but Andy Parkin gave Crookes a
half-time lead and Daniel Flynn (right) doubled it in the second half.
An Ollie Black free kick was deflected into his own goal by Tom
Staniland gave Oughtibridge hope, but Andrew Fox settled the game for
Crookes late on.
The only team
unbeaten in the CBC Premier is Norton Sportsman after they came from two
goals down to claim a point for a second consecutive week with a 3-3
draw
at Wadsley Bridge Pheasant. Debutant Tiago Bravo set up Michael Gibbons
to give Norton a half-time lead, but after the break Pheasant took
control and levelled with a Carlton Carty header. It looked as if
Norton’s unbeaten start was over when Ash Donohoe and Adam Askwith gave
Pheasant a 3-1 lead, but Norton got back into it when Josh Gibson was
clattered in the area and James Archer (left) scored from the spot, and
deep into stoppage time Gibson struck the equaliser.
Another high scoring draw saw Cobden View
claim their first ever CBC Premier point at home against Civil Sports
with a 4-4 draw. James Brown gave Civil the lead, but Sam Porter cracked
home from close range to equalise. Brown put Civil back in front, but
Porter beat the offside trap to set up Alex Pursehouse to level again,
before a great Joe Taylor free kick allowed Aaron Ellis to slide in at
the back post to put Cobden in front at half-time. After the break
Jordan Turner levelled for Civil, but Tim Pitt headed home a pinpoint
Pursehouse cross to put Cobden in front again. With both teams going
head on another goal was always likely and it fell to Turner to net his
sixth of the season to give Civil a share of the points. 27 SEP - DIVISION 1 - Cotts win again to stay top, but Handsworth are held by Sixers - Cotts are now the only Division One team with a perfect record after a Matt Fells goal gave them a narrow 2-1 win at Brinsworth Phoenix. Cotts started strongly creating early chances through Cal Shaw and Jon Dolan, before finally getting the breakthrough when man of the match Michael Blythen latched on to a Nicky Haywood through ball to turn the defender inside out and slot home. Phoenix hit back soon after when Jack Hawkes beat the offside trap, and although his first shot was blocked he made no mistake with his second attempt. Hawkes almost repeated it soon after, but Cotts grabbed control and only two great saves by Corey Hawksworth kept the scores level at the break. The second half saw both teams even in chances, making both keepers work hard, but Cotts got the win after captain Chris Blythen put his body on the line to win a scramble which fell kindly for Fells to smash home a half volley from 25 yards. Action from the game is below.
Despite
two Russ Hobson strikes, Handsworth Inn Pub dropped points after they
were held to a 2-2 draw at Sheffield Sixers.
Sixes took the lead when Brad Howe’s shot was parried to Danny Barnsley
to power home, but Hobson headed his first to equalise as the defenders
claimed handball. Matt Ellis misses a great chance for inn to take the
lead with a header at the back post. The second half saw Inn take the
lead when Hobson hooked the ball past the keeper, but Sixes hit back
with ten minutes when a mistake from the Handsworth keeper allowed Liam
Davies to score from a tight angle.
Eckington Boys are clear in third as two Tom Gambles goals helped them
to an impressive 4-0 victory at Boynton Sports, It took just two minutes
for Alister Haydock to cross for Gambles to net his first and another
good cross from Joe Harris allowed him to score his second with just
five minutes on the clock. They added a third before half-time when
another Haydock cross was headed home by Jake Fieldhouse. Boynton had
more of the ball after the break, but a quick break by Jo Renshaw saw
him set up Haydock to complete the scoring.
New
Bohemians and FC Inter dropped points after drawing 3-3 with each other.
Inter got off to a flyer with Sam Read (left) and Tom Turner putting
them two up at half time, but after the break Bohemians hit back to take
the lead. Will Butcher made a fantastic run down the right hand side
before being bundled down and Jack Brownell made no mistake from the
spot. Brownell then scored a terrific individual goal, taking on two
defenders in the box before finishing low into the corner. The third was
the pick of the bunch, a cross field ball fell to Matt Beck on the left
hand side, who nut-megged the right back before curling into the top
right corner. A great game for the neutral finished all level when Chris
Lees netted Inter’s third.
Intake Old Boys secured their first points of the season with a narrow
4-3 victory over Southey Social. Both sides started brightly, but it was
Intake that took the lead when a corner saw Dale Wood’s header beat
stand-in keeper Todd Guest. Southey kept their heads and took the game
to Intake, and after Ryan Damms headed just over from a Jack Dickens
cross Damms made no mistake with a second chance. The turning point came
in the second half when Southey’s Jamie Roper had to go off with injury
and Intake took full advantage to re-take the lead through Shaun Garwell
despite a hint of handball. Harry Chamberlain and Wes Butler quickly
added two more for Intake. Southey rallied with Damms second and an Adam
Danks top corner free kick in injury time, but they couldn’t quite force
an equaliser.

SEP - DIVISION 2 -
Reds can't stop Green staying top, whilst Claxton's the big noise for
Whitehill -
Nether Green made it four wins out of four with a 4-0 victory at
Mosborough Reds to stay top of Division Two. It wasn’t as easy as the
score line suggests though and it needed a great display from the Nether
Green back line and keeper Tom Wellman to keep Reds at bay. Green made
the breakthrough on the stroke of half-time through Brad Smith and a
more comfortable second half saw them add three more through Ryan
Philips, Jack Price and Callum Humphries.
Right behind the leaders is Brinsworth
Whitehill after a Matt Claxton (right) hat-trick helped them to a 7-1
victory over Wadsley Jack Athletic. When Brinsworth skipper Cory Goodwin
was caught napping in midfield, George Scott took full advantage to give
Wadsley Jack the lead, but Brinsworth hit back immediately and Mikey
Hare set up Claxton to equalise. It stayed like that until just before
half-time when Claxton rounded the keeper to score his second. He
completed his hat-trick soon after the break, before Ryan Watson headed
a fourth from a Goodwin free kick. Lewis Szanto added a cheeky fifth and
after Wadsley were reduced to ten men, fans favourite Nathan Roebuck
first set up Drew Houghton for the sixth before setting up Joe McGuiness
for the seventh.
Renegade formed their own group of six with six different scorers in
their 6-1 victory at Woodhouse Juniors.
Marcus Gordon, Matt Jacobs and Ty Gunter gave
Renegade a three goal half-time lead before Danny Higgins, Matt Lindsay
and Mikey Thomas added the others in the second half, with Dan Lockwood
netting for Woodhouse.
Chapeltown RBL claimed their first
points of the season by ending Beighton Magpies unbeaten home record
with a 3-0 victory over them. Beighton started brightly and had a few
long range efforts before Ben Stringer sent James Dimelow through to
drill home a left footed strike across the keeper. Joe Moorhouse doubled
RBL’s lead before half time, racing clear of the defence before clipping
the ball past the keeper and Dimelow returned the favour to Stringer in
the second half, releasing the winger, who made no mistake to secure the
points. |

Civil
Turn the screw on Oaks for first win, whilst Redmires make it win number
17 -
Jordan Turner (left) hit a hat-trick as
Civil Sports gained their first win of the season with a 6-0 victory
over fellow promotees Norton Oaks.
Jamie Hopkins’ superb free kick opened the scoring before Turner doubled
Civil’s lead with a penalty before half-time. In the second half, driven
on by man of the match Rob Shelley, Civil’s power and pace up front
proved too much for Oaks and Thomas Bamford made it three before Turner
added two more. Arnzei Gordon-Hides completed the scoring with a superb
volley
Redmires took their incredible run of CBC
Premier wins to 17 with a 5-1 victory over Oughtibridge that included
yet another hat-trick by Tom Whiting. Oughtibridge, with five 18 year
olds in their line-up started brightly and took a deserved lead
when Callum Simms hit an unstoppable
shot from 20 yards. It should have soon been two soon after, but Matt
Harrison hit straight at the keeper and Callum Spencer hit the bar with
another effort. Redmires shook themselves and took over with Whiting’s
treble, one from Danny Reet and Sinon Grant’s first goal for club, and
it might have been many more had Oughtibridge’s reserve keeper Chris
Adnett not made some excellent stops.
Joel Purkiss netted twice as Crookes came
from behind to get back to winning ways with a 3-1 home win over Wadsley
Bridge Pheasant. Matty Ord raced clear to give Pheasant the lead, but
Crookes always looked dangerous from set pieces and Joe Jerrison headed
home an equaliser before half-time. After the break
Purkiss hit great free kick to put Crookes ahead and after Pheasant
missed a glorious chance to equalise, Purkiss made the points safe with
his second.
In a fast paced game, Royal Earl slipped
to a 2-1 defeat at Wickersley Youth. Chances
came at both ends and it needed a good save by Wickersley keeper Adam
Ogden to stop Earl taking the lead. Instead it was Wickersley that got
their noses in front before half-time when a long ball from Leon
Cusworth found Josh Kirkland and he turned it inside for Nathan Taylor
to glide it left footed into the net. They doubled it midway through the
second half when Jamie Fawcett and Mike Cookson combined for Kirkland to
fire in a shot that was stopped by the Earl keeper, but Tom Hartshorn
hammered home the rebound. Five minutes later Earl pulled one back when
Connor Chappell pounced on a loose ball to score from inside the six
yard box but Wickersley did enough to hold on. Norton Sportsman came from two down to share the spoils 2-2 with Stannington Village. Village went ahead with a 20 yard strike from Jack Haslam and they doubled their lead before half-time when a good move allowed Lewis Dickinson to finish at the near post. Norton came more into the game more after the break and they pulled a goal back when Michael Gibbons set Chris Winters free and he outpaced the defence to tuck beyond the advancing keeper. Stannington still looked dangerous and only a terrific Jack Mitchell save from a Pierre Pinnock volley stopped them clinching the points. Instead it was Norton that grabbed the equaliser when Callum Mawbey a corner across the box, Josh Gibson headed into the corner (first picture below) Action from the game is below.
20 SEP - DIVISION 1 -
Tom shows Hough it’s done to keep Cotts on top - Tom
Houghton scored twice to help Cotts stay top with a 3-1 victory over New
Bohemians.
Cotts took an early lead when Chris Salt’s
header dropped for Lewis Reed and his shot hit Houghton on the knee to
go in the opposite corner. The second goal came a few minutes later when
Chris Salt again headed on for Michael Blythen to beat two defenders and
give Reed the chance to fire home from 12 yards. Cotts then got a 3rd
when Salt flicked a free kick for man of the match Ryan Simmonite to
head across goal to allow Houghton to smash home a volley.
The second half saw Callum Shaw,
Simmonite and Salt all missed chances to make the score larger, but it
was Jack Brownell that scored a consolation for Bohemians with a last
minute penalty.
Handsworth
Inn Pub stayed second with a 6-2 victory over Intake Old Boys.
A low cross by Phil Miskell was turned in by
Carl Bowler. Russ Hobson grabbed their second when he brought the ball
down in the box and chipped the on-rushing keeper, before a Lee Thompson
cross was met by a bullet header from Dave Haggerty (right) at the back
post for Handsworth’s third. Intake stayed in the match with two first
half goals from Jon Rossiter. After the break Handsworth brought on
their new young striker Chad Gibson for his debut and within ten minutes
he made his mark with a thunderbolt strike from 25 yards that flew into
the top corner. A Matt Ellis header at the back post from a corner made
it 5-2, before great work down the left by Mike Golland saw him
unselfishly square the ball to Gibson to get his second and complete the
scoring.
Boynton Sports stayed third despite being held 3-3 by Southey Social in
a real thriller. Southey started on front
foot and a great bit of football saw Roper’s cross allowed Ryan Damms to
turn and smash home, but Boynton replied quickly when Lee Jordan was
felled in the area and Jake Gamban scored from the spot. Gamban then put
Boynton ahead when he took advantage of a defensive error to race clear
and score. The second half saw Boynton reduced to ten men when Curtis
Priday picked up a second yellow card, but despite that they increased
their lead when Marc Peacock was first to a rebound. Southey got back
into the game when Damms headed his second and they grabbed a deserved
equaliser when Jack Dickens chipped the keeper from the edge of the
area.
Brinsworth Phoenix slipped to a 3-1 defeat as Eckington Boys gained
their first win of the season. A competitive
start from both sides saw Eckington led at half-time after a Tom Gambles
corner was met by the rising Joe Harris to nod home. The second half saw
Phoenix start brighter and it needed a good save from Luke Sanderson to
keep Eckington’s lead, before Phoenix hit the bar with a cross come
shot. Liam Foulstone was then denied by Phoenix keeper Corey Hawksworth,
but after more Hawksworth saves, Eckington finally got the second goal
their play deserved when another Gambles corner was this time met by
Foulstone to head home. John Mellor almost immediately pulled one back
with a well struck free kick into the bottom corner, but after an end to
end final few minutes Eckington sealed victory when Pat Stothard scored
at the second attempt.
Colley also gained their first win at 2-1 FC Inter.
A smart turn by Matthew Jebson saw him gain
a yard of space to fire over the keeper to give Colley a half-time lead.
Inter piled on the pressure after the break and drew level when a corner
was only half cleared and Sam Read fired it back into the top corner,
but Colley went straight to the other end and Chris Belshaw fired into
the top corner to put them back in front. Inter was handed a lifeline
when they were awarded a penalty, but Colley keeper Martin Ludlam saved
to earn his side their first points of the season.

SEP - DIVISION 2 -
Four goal Arrand helps Reds to victory, and four goal Gordon helps
Renegade to first win -
James Arrand 9left) scored all Mosborough Reds’ four goals as they went
third with a 4-3 victory at Chapeltown RBL. Chapeltown started brightly,
but against the run of play Ash Sherritt fed Arrand and he rounded the
keeper to give Reds a half-time lead. Arrand doubled the lead five
minutes after the break when he put home the rebound after Josh Smith’s
shot had been saved, but RBL were soon back in the game when Morgan
Cowell forced the ball home. RBL pressed hard for an equaliser, but were
caught on the break as Arrand completed his hat-trick. Adam Simpson
reduced the arrears when he caught the keeper unaware with a quickly
taken free-kick, but Arrand netted his fourth to give Reds the breathing
space they needed as Joe Moorhouse netted a third for RBL
Another to score four was Marcus
Gordon as Renegade Football overwhelmed Killamarsh Juniors 13-2.
Renegade’s others came from Matt Jacobs hat-trick, two each for Mikey
Vella and Matt Lindsay, and one each for Joe Denby and Danny Higgins,
whilst Killamarsh’s replies came from Curtis Webster and Alex Platton.
Nether Green stayed top as two Tom
Davis goals helped them to a 6-3 victory over Prince of Wales. After
Said Bennaissa had given Green the lead a terrific
30 yard Bradley Gray free-kick went in off a post to draw Prince level
at half-time. After the break Luke Baldrey and Davis’s first put Green
3-1 in front, until and Prince clawed another one back through a Gray
penalty, but Davis’s second and one each for Rob Farrell and Jack
Hollis-Smith put Green in control despite Prince’s third from Antony
Elliot.
Steve Dickinson hit a hat-trick as
Shakey ended Beighton Magpies unbeaten run with a 3-2 victory over them.
Dickinson’s first gave Shakey a half time lead, but after the break, his
namesake Matt equalised for Beighton. Steve Dickinson grabbed his second
and third, but Magpies hit back with a Brandon Simpson strike to set up
a tense finale, but Shakey should have won more comfortably as they
missed a last minute penalty. The day’s other game saw Jubilee Rangers
gain their first win in the League as a Jack Straw strike gave them a
1-0 victory over Woodhouse Juniors.
19 SEP - Fixtures for OCTOBER now published - The Fixtures and Referees for OCTOBER are now shown in the Fixtures section. All home teams MUST make sure that their home pitch is available on all the dates shown. Please email Keith immediately if your pitch is not available on a date shown. All home clubs must also confirm the details with your referees and opponents for all dates shown IMMEDIATELY. If you are having to kick-off at a time other than 11 am, you MUST make sure that both your referee and opponents are aware. This is more likely to happen this season due to Covid. The home clubs should later (the Tuesday before the game) ring the referee to make sure the referee has got all the details. If a referee says he cannot do a game listed for them, please notify Keith immediately. Matches without referees must still go ahead and, if you have not been allocated a referee by the date of the game, the two clubs must agree on a stand-in 'referee' between them. Although Keith will still be working to gain more referees, because we have a lower number of referees than in recent season, it is very likely that more games than normal will not have an official referee allocated to them. If you find one yourself, will you let Keith know immediately please. |

SEP - CBC PREMIER -
The Whiting is on the
wall for the rivals -
The CBC Premier's leading scorer for the last
three seasons, Redmires’ Tom Whiting (left), looks like he means
business again as he kicked off with a hat-trick in champions victory
over newly promoted Civil Sports. The game was over as a contest after
30 minutes as Whiting’s treble along with one each from George Rudd, who
added 3 assists, Jon Wall and Dave Knaggs had Redmires 6-0 in front.
Danny Reet added one more in the second half as Redmires coasted to
victory. Adam Todd netted
twice to help Wadsley Bridge Pheasant start their season with victory
over Wickersley Youth. When a wicked cross and a powerful shot stuck a
hand up stepped Adam Todd to open the scoring and when a fine run by
Jordan Livett was stopped when he was upended in box, Todd stepped up to
score his second penalty. Pheasant as good as won the points when Antony
Holmes added a third goal before half time. After a few harsh words by
their manager, Wickersley came out more determined in the second half,
but the Pheasant defence held firm to run out 3-0 winners Despite falling behind to a Joe Slater strike
for hosts Cobden View, there was also a winning start for Norton
Sportsman. The equaliser came when a quick break saw Connor Pryde finish
well after he was left 1-on-1 with the keeper. Tim Pitt headed narrowly
wide for Cobden, but it was Norton that grabbed the lead five minutes
before half time when Danny Rogers broke into the box and after a good
save by the Cobden keeper, Rogers slotted home the rebound. Jack
Waymouth extended Norton’s lead with a terrific strike into the top
corner and although Cobden put them under pressure after that Norton
held on for the 3-1 win.
Royal
Earl also started with a win after coming from behind to beat old rivals
Crookes FC 3-2. A Joe Jerrison header gave Crookes the lead, but Earl
levelled it before half time with a Sam Smith strike. Earl took the lead
soon after the break when they were awarded a penalty and Connor Chappel
scored from the spot, but it looked like they would have to share the
spoils when James Knowles equalised with just ten minutes remaining.
Earl had other ideas though and almost immediately Michael Towey (right)
headed what proved to be the winner.
13 SEP - DIVISION 1 -
Eckington Fell at home
to Cotts, while Sam's the man for Handsworth -
Matt Fell netted twice as
Cotts made it two wins out of two with a 4-1 victory at Eckington Boys.
Eckington started quickly and took the lead with a long range free kick
by Joe Harris, but were pegged back by Fells first following a short
corner. Alister Haydock’s header produced a great save by the Cotts
Keeper before half time, but the second half belonged to Cotts. Nicky
Haywood gave them the lead from the edge of the area, followed by a
Callum Shaw strike on the end of a good move, then Matts Fells second
with a 25 yard left foot power drive to seal all three points for Cotts.
Sam
Marsden (left) hit a hat-trick as Handsworth Inn Pub got off to a
winning start, 6-1 at Colley. Against the run of play, Billy Thorley
gave Colley the lead in the
first half, but just before half-time Dave Haggerty levelled with a
looping header. Two minutes into the second half a James Colliver cross
was met by a Ben Shackshaft header into the bottom corner and soon after
a through ball by Colliver was met by Marsden for his first. His second
was a solo effort and he completed his hat-trick when he met Mike
Golland’s cross before clipping it over the keeper. Matt Ellis wrapped
things up when he curled it past the keeper.
A
Ross Thompson (right) double helped Boynton Sports off to a winning
start, 2-0 at home to FC Inter and the League's all-time leading scorer,
John Mellor added another to his tally as Brinsworth Phoenix made up for
last week's defeat with a 3-0 home win over Southey Social.
The Phoenix keeper made a brilliant save from a Ryan Damms turn and shot
that looked in all the way, before the Southey keeper, Cal Jones, evened
the save count up shortly after. Southey pressure forced a corner that
the Phoenix keeper claimed unchallenged and within seconds Phoenix were
in front with a quality counter. Jack Hawkes outpaced the Southey
defence before giving Jake Griffiths an easy tap-in.

SEP - DIVISION 2 -
Dickinson's the real
deal for Beighton, while it's Wilko and out for Prince against Wadsley
Jack -
Matt Dickinson hit a
hat-trick as Beighton Magpies made it two out of two with a 4-0 home win
over Killamarsh Juniors. Dickinson beat the offside trap to give
Beighton an early lead and after Jack Thorpe had made a string of great
saves to keep Killamarsh in the game, he was finally beaten by Liam
Milne. Dickinson hit his second before half time and although the second
half was a more even affair, Dickinson completed his hat-trick with a
real belter in-off the bar near the end. A Brad Smith double
helped Nether Green come from behind to win 5-1 at Woodhouse Juniors to
maintain their perfect start. Despite Ahmed Ali giving Woodhouse the
perfect start they were pegged back before losing their keeper with an
injury. Nether Green took full advantage and along with Smith, further
goals from Said Bennessa, Luke Howson and Luke Baldrey wrapped up the
win.
Another
with two wins from two is Brinsworth Whitehill (right) after their 4-0
victory at home against Chapeltown RBL. Although
Brinsworth started brightly they struggled to
break down the Chapeltown defence with Joe McGuinness and Mikey Hare
both being denied by the keeper, but they did manage to beat him when
Ethan
Wilkinson (left) hit four as Wadsley Jack Athletic gained their first
win, 8-1 at Prince of Wales.
George Scott, Lewis Smith with two and Reece James, hit Wadsley’s others
whilst Luke Simmonds netted for Prince.
Shakey gained
their first win, 2-1 at Mosborough Reds. Michael Taylor gave Shakey an
early lead, but it was cancelled out before half time when Josh Smith
took a perfectly weighted through ball and slid it under the keeper. The
winner came from the penalty spot midway through the second half, with
Kyle Brown rifling home Jubilee Rangers and
Renegade Football shared the points after a 3-3 thriller. Marcus Gordon
and Ty Gunter gave Renegade a two goal lead, but Adam Darton pulled one
back before the break and levelled the scores after the break. Matt
Jacobs then put Renegade back in front against the run of play, but
Callum Beresford grabbed a deserved equaliser for Jubilee with just four
minutes remaining. |

SEP - CBC PREMIER -
Purkiss wins it for Crookes, while Civil
and Oughtibridge share the spoils –
As Sunday football got back underway, a single Joel
Purkiss (left) goal in the second half gave Crookes a 1-0 home win
against Stannington Village. His winner came ten minutes after the break
with a shot from outside the area, to give Crookes their first ever
league win over Stannington.
Although the score line was just the same in Wickersley Youth’s home
victory over a Cobden View playing their first ever top-flight game, it
had much more drama. The winner came after just a few minutes when
Wickersley centre forward Scott Hartley was fouled in the Cobden box,
and he picked himself up to score from the spot. Cobden gradually grew
into the game and were on top really for the rest of the half, but
couldn’t beat keeper Adam Ogden. Just after the break, Mike McVay was
brought down in the area, but Ogden produced an outstanding save to deny
Joe Taylor. The next drama saw a Wickersley’s Michael Clarke sustain a
serious injury in an accidental collision leading to a 50 minute delay.
After that break, with skipper Aaron Ellis superb as a makeshift centre
half, Cobden were again on the front foot, but unable to create a
scoring opportunity and Wickersley held on to the points.
Despite taking the lead against Oughtibridge WM with a Jordan Turner
strike, Civil Sports had to settle for a point on their return to the
top flight. Oughtibridge’s man of the match Charlie Cope on his debut
caused all kinds of problems and twice went close twice in the first few
minutes, but another debutant, Jamie Hadfield, gave away a penalty that
Turner despatched to give Civil the lead. The second half saw Cope again
go close when his free kick went inches wide, but an equaliser finally
came when Joe Long managed to get the final touch mid-way through the
second half. Only a fingertip save stopped Cope putting Oughtibridge in
front and they should have won it when both Adam Thomas and Charlie
Myers shot wide in the last two minutes.
6 SEP - DIVISION 1 -
Blythen blows Sixers away, while Bohemians
get off to a winning start and Inter beat Phoenix - Cotts got off to a
flying start as Michael Blythen (pictured first left below) hit a
hat-trick to help them beat Sheffield Sixers. Cotts took lead with their
first attack as a sweeping move out right and first time ball in by
debutant Lewis Reed and Michael Blythen rounded the keeper to open the
scoring. It was soon doubled when another good move saw Jon Dolan finish
into an empty net and Blythen made it three before the break
Sixers rallied in the second half and pulled one back when Liam Davies
brought down a long ball and slotted home with his left foot, but proved
to only be a consolation as Cotts got back on top and after many chances
had gone begging, Blythen completed his hat-trick to make the final
score 4-1.
New Bohemians began life in Division One with a narrow 3-2 victory over
Intake Old Boys. Bohemians took just 15 seconds to go ahead when Joe
Shipman clipped it down the line for Tom Beck to cut it back for Sam
Smith to stroke the ball into the bottom corner. The lead was doubled
just five minutes later when Dan Beck cut it back for his brother Matt
Beck to finish into the middle of the net. Intake stirred themselves and
goals from Jon Rossiter and Dale Wood brought them level, but just ten
minutes from time a through ball was played to Tom Beck who took it
round the keeper to score the winner.
FC Inter's manager Mark Cooper celebrated his return to the club with a
3-1 victory over newly promoted Brinsworth Phoenix. Ben Southwell and
Paul Knapton strikes gave Inter a two goal half-time lead, but a
terrific Joe Statham volley from Tom Scovern’s corner put Phoenix back
in the game, until a late penalty allowed Sam Read to seal the points
for Inter.
The Handsworth Inn Pub's home game with Boynton Sports had to be
abandoned after a spectator collapsed on the touchline and the referee
had no option but to stop the game.
6 SEP - DIVISION 2 -
Whitehill Hare away and Reds get off to a
flyer, and there was wins for Magpies and Nether Green - The late Paul Carder
will be smiling from above after seeing his beloved Brinsworth Whitehill
celebrate their return to the League with a 7-1 victory at Shakey helped
by four goals from Mikey Hare. . Brinsworth set off really well and
within ten minutes Hare went clean through to smash the ball home. The
second came when Cory Goodwin was fouled in the area and Matt Claxton
stepped up to coolly slot home. The third came when Kallum Nix and Joe
McGuinness combined to put it on a plate for Claxton to tap home his
second. It was four just before half time when Hare’s corner allowed the
leaping McGuinness to score with a bullet header.
Shakey started the second half better and Daniel Booth pulled a goal
back, but this only seem to make Brinsworth come back stronger and when
Hare received the ball from 20 yards out he smashed it into the top
corner. Hare then completed his hat trick after a quick short free kick
allowed him to curl the ball in to the top right corner. The scoring was
completed when Cory Goodwin and sub Nick Hedge combined for Hare to tap
home his fourth.
Mosborough Reds also had a big win, 6-1 at Killamarsh Juniors, with all
their goals coming in the second half. After a stalemate first half, it
took Reds just a minute to go in front Alex Maybury whipped in a
free-kick for Adam Russell to head home at the back post. A second came
when Oliver Tupling pass allowed Terence Ncube to round the keeper and
score. Michael Tyler put Killamarsh back in the game, but they had no
answer to Reds power after that. Ncube netted his second with a left
foot shot curled into top corner and soon after it was Josh Smith’s turn
to find the top corner. Smith netted his second into an empty net and he
provided the corner for Ryan Greaves’ header to complete the scoring.
Nether Green started as they intend to continue with Jack Hollis-Smith
netting twice in a 3-0 victory over newcomers Jubilee Rangers. Both
teams went at it right from the start and Jubilee’s appeals for an early
penalty was dismissed by the referee before James Gamble made a great
save to stop Nether Green taking the lead. Callum Beresford then blocked
a shot on the line to again deny Green, but the home team’s pressure was
finally rewarded when Hollis-Smith headed home. Gamble then make two
more good saves before Alfie Smith missed a great chance to level when
he skied the ball over the bar, and they were punished when Hollis-Smith
netted his second before the break. Smith had another chance to pull one
back when he hit the crossbar, but the game was clinched when Luke Oxley
gave a penalty away and Tom Davis netted from the spot
Beighton Magpies also got off to a winning start 3-2 at home against
Wadsley Jack Athletic. Niall Wilkinson took advantage of a mistake to
open the scoring, but Liam Milne produced an excellent finish to level
the scores. A long throw was headed home by Danny King to put Beighton
in front and Dale Featherstone made it 3-1 with an excellent finish on
the run. Wadsley then had the majority of the play, but couldn’t find a
finish until Leon Dearns scored with the last kick of the game.

29 AUGUST - Mosborough Whites Folded - Mosborough Whites has folded leaving 11 teams in Division One. It has meant some fixture and referee changes in Divisions 1 & 2. We thank Whites for their efforts in their short time in the League, including finishing runners-up to Royal Earl in the 2018 Junior Cup Final. 27 AUGUST - Fixtures SEPTEMBER now published - The Fixtures and Referees for September are now shown in the Fixtures section. If you find one yourself, will you let Keith know immediately please. . 27 AUGUST - Fixtures Grid for the 2020-21 season - Below is shown the Fixtures Grid for the 2019-20 season. The numbers shown are of the teams that are due to play at home each week. You must IMMEDIATELY notify the people who manage your pitch, all the dates you are listed as being at home.
